Hey, this is Tom Atkins.
If you want to throw me, you've got to listen to the horror returns.
Ooh.
Greetings, victims.
For those of you delight and dread, who fantasize about fear,
who glorify and gore, welcome.
you have found the place where the horror returns.
Listeners beware.
This podcast contains major plot spoilers
and the foulest of language.
Join us in celebrating the old and the new,
the best, and the worst in horror.
All right, welcome back,
everybody to the Hora Returns. I'm Lance and with me as always are my co-host
Kevin. Leacy's here for the first part. Brian and of course Philip. How's it going
everybody? Doing good. Good. It's tired. Have you been working
as or I thought you were you were working tonight or part of that? Oh no I was I was
supposed to but the guy that I was going to work for.
See, he said he needed money, so he had to cancel it.
Yeah.
Saw that new pickup you got, man.
Yeah, I got to pay for that now, so I've been working a lot.
Fun part.
The worst part is you've got to fill it up.
That too, but I'm going to start driving my wife's car.
Yeah.
I'll drive my truck in the winter because it's just too much money.
I think I'm going to get a little hybrid pickup, man, and use it for work.
I don't know if I can make it work, but I'm going to try.
40 miles a gown sounds pretty good.
I need an electric car.
Yeah.
I've got, I don't understand.
Do you have to get a special electric outlet built in your house for it?
Yeah.
And just watch your electric meter.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Plus you're out at the mall or a shopping center that has a free
charger and they can fast charge them in 30 minutes.
Do you have to pay for that or I see them everywhere?
It depends on the spot.
Like so far right now a lot of places are doing it free because they put like
advertising on the side of it and they'll put them in like a mall or someplace that
they know you're going to go in and spend money.
So like the mall here, they're all around the mall.
You can park there just for 30 minutes, go and get something to eat, go to a store or
something like that and you come out and it's charged up.
Because I know they have them in the mall and
you know, we have them down the street, but it just says Tesla on it.
So I don't know.
Is it just for Tesla cars or is it for everyone?
Tesla's their own thing, man.
I think if it's Mark Tesla, it only goes.
I'm just starting to learn about all this.
But yeah.
I never even seen anyone ever hooked up to those things, especially in this town.
Really?
You're in California.
Yeah.
Well, they're not a little one-horse town.
Maybe people that drive through hook it up.
But I don't know, maybe they got enough juice to get to Reno.
Yeah, you're looking at about a thousand bucks minimum,
probably four times that in California.
That's without the parts or without the charger itself.
Oh, for a charger?
Yeah, to put it in your house.
Yeah, well, I'm going to have to call on you, man, to help me out because I'll be there.
I definitely need to have one at the house.
Yeah.
All right.
They say you could plug it into just a wall outlet, but it takes like,
24 hours to charge.
Well?
Like a toy car or something.
You got a dryer in the garage.
Maybe it'll plug into a dryer outlet.
I don't know.
Maybe.
What about you, Brian,
going to get in the electric car anytime soon or what?
Nope.
Let all the guinea pigs try them out first, huh?
They'd be breaking down every three months or so.
Brian's snowshoes don't need no gas.
No, neither does my dog sled.
So what's in the front?
Is it, it's not an engine?
It's called a fronk.
The F-150 it is, yeah.
Yeah, the one I ordered is called a Mustang Maki.
And it's got a, yeah, it's a Mustang, man, but it's a Mustang SUV that's all electric.
And in the front, it's got, it makes it into an ice chest.
It's got like a little plug.
Really?
pull out and everything, yeah.
So the front is set up to be, I'm not, I'm not lying, guys.
Beer in the ice chest up front.
Look it up.
I wouldn't drive an officer the car was.
All right, you guys ready to get the cool of the week?
Yeah.
Nez.
Well, I got two.
Maverick and Obi-1.
Okay.
Okay.
Ooh, man.
uh obi one it's only the beginning i got some questions but
all right whatever i didn't write the stories and
i just want to i want to know is all the rebel stuff out the door
or are they just nitpicking this and that
or maybe they're going to surprise us and bring dark mall in
and they're just trying to hype us up with vater because i still have that
issue of
in the original Star Wars
of Vader telling
Obi-1, last time we met,
I was but the learner, now I'm the master.
Right. So, everyone's
like, no, they're going to fight in this.
And if they do, then
that
what was said in the original film is
I'm like, okay, whatever.
The only way that can happen is if it's a dream sequence.
You think so? I mean,
which is kind of a cop-out, but it's the only
way it works. It's, it's not
going to be the little
little boy
Anakin, is it?
And this one?
Where are they on the timeline?
This is right after
10 years after Revenge of the Sith.
And 10 years before...
So he'd be like, what, a teenager by now?
Ooh.
Anakin?
Yeah.
Oh, no, he's a...
Anakin's already Vader.
10 years old.
He's Darth Vader now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Luke is a teenager.
No, Luke is like 10.
Did you watch it yet?
Okay.
I haven't, no.
I want to wait until they're all up.
No, I'll wait. I'll wait in Benjam, man.
Whoa.
And they're all up.
I've only watched a little bit of the first one.
It looks interesting.
That Inquisitor guy, he's from Rebels, right?
Okay.
Yeah, I know.
Theo could tell you.
It sure looked like he was.
I don't know if it was or not.
I don't remember.
I don't know.
But there was another issue I had with it, but it's just,
six episodes. It's one and done, so it's like a big, big long movie, which I'm happy with, but don't, don't try to jam too much in there because then there were, then you're just going to leave it open to this and that, which they could.
So, but I assume that he, in the next 10 years after this whole event, he must go through a lot to get really, really old to look like Sir Allegheny.
I've heard you talks about that on the podcast before.
He had a hard 10 years out there in the desert.
Yeah, that's true.
I mean, he lived in a cave.
That tattooing son was murdered to him.
Turned him into leather, right, Brian?
Yeah.
But Maverick, who, man.
I've heard nothing but good things.
It was awesome.
Yeah.
Everything about it, minimal.
love no volleyball
and there was
there was touch football there was touch
football and
it was just awesome
what those actors
did what Tom Cruise put them all
through to get them ready
to physically
ready to deal with what
they had to deal with when they were in those jets
and it was amazing
I seen it twice
I'm gonna go again later tonight
for the third time.
And man, this is definitely in my top ten of the year.
And I knew I was going to like it just because of when the teasers came out and a little bit they showed us at Comic-Con.
And that was two years ago.
And I just couldn't believe it.
So everything that I was watching up to it, the making things and people that already saw the movie.
but I was like, I don't know.
I knew I was going to love the jet parts.
That was my main focus.
It was just the in-between,
and I didn't want all that dumb love
and take my breath away and all that shit.
They didn't even play that song, did they?
I don't think so.
I think they played all the other ones from the first movie.
Well, at the beginning,
they had to get you hyped up with Danger Zone and everything, so on.
Sure, sure.
That's pretty great in the first one.
That was pretty cool how they recreated the scene
and the scroll from the first movie.
movie. I thought, fuck, did they put the wrong movie on?
I guess we went it to like part one, top gun, and then they're going to play the new one.
But then it said Miles Teller, and when Miles Taylor's name came up, I knew it was the new one.
I'm not sure. I mean, there was some cool jets and everything in it, especially that one in the
beginning. I wasn't sure if that was real, but I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
I don't know my like everything else was, so I wouldn't doubt it.
Yeah. I don't know, but it was, it was awesome. The CG, the
they did doing it, I thought was really cool.
But the majority of the film is them and it was real.
So I loved how they did all that.
And I loved how they put all the cameras in the jets when they were dealing with them.
But I wanted to know if Tom was flying those jets because he is a pilot.
It sure looks like he is.
Yeah, little clips of things that I saw.
He certainly claims that he did all, does all his own stunts.
if he did
hats off to him
I know everyone else wasn't
maybe there was someone in it
but there was something I was watching
they were seeing
especially Miles Teller
they had to start the cameras
that were in front of them
okay
and there was times where he said
he hit the wrong button
and erased everything
that they had filmed
so they had to film it again
oh wow
that button
no shit
but
other than that, it was an awesome movie.
I think it was like two hours.
It didn't seem like it flew by like that.
It did, yeah, it did.
But I thought it was an amazing film, and I just, I knew it was going to be better than that of the bullshit.
But this one was awesome.
And shout out to everyone to listen to the latest action returns.
What other bullshit?
The original film.
Ness hate, Ness hated the original.
Spoiler alert.
I just rewatched it twice.
It's an amazing movie.
All right.
Hey, I'm going to pass it on to you guys because that's also my cool of the week.
So, Naz has already said everything that needs to be said about it.
Same feedback, huh? Pretty awesome.
Yep.
Absolutely.
Yeah, a lot more action than the first one.
That's for damn sure.
Yep.
Well, I'll jump in.
I didn't get a chance to watch too much of Obi-Wan just like maybe 30 minutes of the first episode.
And then, you know, I got kids.
Shit happens.
But I did check out probably the...
the first three episodes of Stranger Things.
Ah.
I mean, they're both pretty good, but dude,
Stranger Things is looking pretty kick-ass.
Like, I'm pretty excited with it.
It's,
they're,
the acting has gotten way better.
They're kind of hitting some pretty good plot points.
I'm kind of wondering where it's going.
I mean,
hopefully they stick the landing,
but so far I'm impressed.
Are the episodes all long,
or are they?
because there's, you know, I don't know.
They seem to be really long.
I think they're more than an hour.
But yeah, that's all I got this week.
But I'm pretty impressed with both.
And Obi-1 looks like it's going to be pretty good so far.
I'll hold my judgment on that one.
Yeah, so Stranger Things, are the episodes,
just some of them get so long that they wear out their welcome?
Like, I think one of them's an hour and 38 minutes or something.
No, I haven't really been bored yet.
I mean, they go into some, you know, interpersonal relationships and stuff like that.
And, you know, they got to set the story up.
It's a little bit of a slow burn, obviously.
But it's episode three, and they're kind of getting into it.
There's already been a couple of people dead.
Oh, shit.
All right.
I'll have to check it out.
Brian, Amityville update?
Are you switching over to...
you starting with the OG?
Yeah, that'll be coming soon, but
cool of the week is probably
Obi-1 and Stranger Things.
Yeah?
I'm enjoying both, so I don't really need to
go into it too much.
I'll probably speak more about Stranger Things next week
when I finish this first part of the season.
Obi-1's only like two episodes in right now, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
Man, part of me really wants to wait and binge it, but now that I started the episode, I really got to finish.
That's the only, that's the only problem.
Yeah, that too.
How far are you into a stranger, Brian?
Two episodes.
All right, so you had a ways to go.
You get about five more movies to watch.
They are long episodes, man.
They put some work into this thing.
It's looking pretty good.
Yeah, well, the last season was, what, pre-COVID?
Yeah.
Well, in the first season was a long fucking time before that, too.
Yeah.
It's not like it's that different.
They take their time.
Mm-hmm.
All right.
So that's cool of the week.
Anything else, Brian?
Any not so cool of the week?
No, no.
Okay.
About this week.
Nothing worth mentioning, huh?
No.
All right.
You got any headlines?
Really cool.
Sports returns.
Are the way?
Are the Warriors in it now, Brian?
Yeah.
I am completely out of it when it comes to the NBA.
Yeah, me too.
They're in it.
They're in it.
I don't know they were still playing.
Yeah, and then they just pushed Boston to a game seven last night, so that'll be tomorrow.
And who are they playing?
Boston, they're playing shit, not Dallas.
Dallas is already out.
Fuck, I can't remember.
yeah
Dio's usually
Blowing my phone up
It blows my phone up about it
I mean I don't really care
But I wasn't sure
If I will if they were
If they won or if this is it
Or I don't know
Yeah that that's theo sport man
NBA
So we'll see
Still collect those
Uh that Bitcoin or whatever the fuck it was
That's NBA
Oh those cards or
something that was like going up and down in value he was talking about
I think I haven't heard he hasn't said much about those cards
he started doing the actual
if it's not I don't know if it's Bitcoin but something like that and he's
some kind of NBA crypto
yeah something else I can't remember but he's
his account is
it's not it's climbing I guess
as backing by all China
I told him I
I said, well, whatever you do, man,
getting by a car.
Right, right.
I don't know what was there.
I'll probably just buy more collectibles.
Man, I'm kind of bummed.
I was going to, but I just couldn't work it in the schedule.
I wanted to go to Celebration, Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim.
And my younger brother, he's down there, him and his woman.
And I just see in the videos he's posting and watching all the news that's coming out of there.
I'm like, man.
Ah, come on, dude.
You, of all people, man.
You go everywhere.
I just got a truck, man.
I couldn't justify going down there.
But you fly for free.
I know, but, I mean, that's not the problem.
It's when I get there.
I don't want to just be there and can't buy nothing.
You don't want to just look.
That's true, man.
You can't go to those places and not spend a shitload of money.
I want a one of those limited tomogachis that they had down there.
I guess those are making.
heard in a long while.
I guess those are making it to come back.
So,
I guess they were just selling them there.
They're a little special R2D2 ones, I think.
Right.
But, man, yeah,
next, next time.
All right.
I'll go to the next one.
That's the sports update.
Boston's playing somebody,
and they're going to play Golden State next, right?
I guess.
Whoever wins that one.
Brian, can you hit us with some headlines?
not really
maybe after the
Star Wars celebration
Tim Burton's
You seem fed up with the world today
Yeah I'm not feeling too good
So man
Again
Yeah
Tim Burton's
Adam's family series Wednesday
It's gonna premiere
Sometimes this fall on Netflix
So
Jenna Ortega right
Yeah
And the only other thing I got new is
Jody Foster is going to be in
True Detective Season 4.
I might start watching it again.
Yeah, I really wish I cared more.
Yeah, I gave up on...
Season 2 sucked.
Season 1 was awesome.
What did you think is?
What's season 2?
Season 2 was the dude that
played the killer and switched or whatever it was
where he traded bodies with Vince Vaughn.
He was in season 2.
It was bad, man.
What was season 1?
Season 1 was Woody Harrelson
and shit, it's been so long.
It was with Conahey, right?
Yeah, that was a great one.
Okay, I watched that one.
Continuous shot episode.
I watched that one recently.
So I don't know if I...
I don't know if I signed the second one.
Yeah, I tapped out of the second one, man,
and never watched the third.
But Jody Foster might bring me back.
Is she going to play Clarice Starling, or what?
Nah, I don't think they can get away with that.
They don't have pride, sir.
I started the second season.
I didn't.
That's the one with Colin Farrell.
All right.
Oh, that's right.
All right.
Yeah, okay, okay, yeah.
I thought it was Vince Vaughn.
Or maybe he was in it, too.
I don't know.
Yeah, he is.
I never was a huge, uh, uh,
Clarice fan.
What the fuck's their name?
Jody Foster?
Jody Foster.
Jody Foster?
Yeah, no, I don't know.
I never got it.
I never got it with her.
I mean, she's been in some great movies,
but I've never been like,
oh, man, she's fucking awesome.
Yeah.
But then that,
there wasn't,
wasn't there like a serial killer
that was after her or some shit?
Yeah, I think so.
That was stalking her.
Like, yeah.
He, like, murdered a bunch of people
and said it was because he loved Jody Foster
or some crazy.
Oh, that's right.
I can't remember.
Wasn't that the guy that shot Reagan?
Was it?
Or Lennon?
John Hinkley.
right? Was it the guy that shot Lennon?
I think the dude that shot
Reagan. I think Nass has it, man.
I think he did it to impress Jody Foster.
I think it's him.
He watched Taxi Driver one time too many.
All right.
Speaking of John Lennon,
I want to re-watch
I want to re-watch that movie with
Jared Lido when he got off fat
and he played the guy
that shot Lennon. Yeah, that was pretty good.
Oh, no.
You didn't see that?
I saw it when it first came out.
I want to see it again, but it ain't streaming anywhere.
But I'm sure I could find it somewhere.
I can't even remember what it's called.
Chapter of something.
I don't remember.
I remember he just got, he got all.
I have the walrus.
I guess he got all sick from eating like that.
Just eating and eating and eating and eating.
and just getting all fat and they just said it just
almost killed him.
That was Jared Leto?
Yeah.
He didn't, he didn't want the fat suit.
So he really,
he put on the weight.
Yeah, he pulled the Christian bail.
Yeah.
And I guess he was feeling like that guy that did
supersized me that ate so much and
was getting sick.
That's right.
I remember that.
You remember the one,
the offshoot movie called Super High Me?
Yeah.
Yeah, I see that one.
Doug, Doug, Doug, I can't remember his last name.
He's pretty funny.
It wasn't?
Doug Benson.
Doug Benson.
He's pretty good stand up.
Can you get that high?
I don't know, Brian?
Brian?
Can you?
He just did it for 30 days and kept rolling,
and then he went sober for 30 days.
Really?
I can't really remember how the movie went, but.
He took like.
tests and stuff after that, like, physical tests and, like, he took, like, academic tests.
Right.
I think they said after he smoked for a month straight, he actually did better on the academic stuff.
Hmm.
He was a very functional, yeah, stoner.
I see those videos of those dabs or whatever those things are.
Right.
And how everyone just take big rips and then just.
pass out and fall over.
Yeah, no thanks.
I don't know what those are.
I'm watching those videos when they pass out.
I asked my son,
because he works at one of those places where they grow and clip it all and bag it up
or whatever they do with it.
Right.
I said, what are though?
I sent him a video of one.
I said, what is this?
How come they're passing out?
I need to say because they're weak.
They're weak.
No, I've done some wax.
before. It's not that terrible.
But I mean, I'm sure they have some really potent
shit that'll put you on your ass.
Now, these kids, like,
take the hit, blow it out, stand there for a few seconds,
and then, bhrush, fall over.
Damn.
I drank that way, but that was in my younger teen years.
Can't do that now.
Yeah, no shit.
Not so much anymore, huh?
No way. I fall asleep before I fall over.
No more news, Brian?
No, that's it.
Slow news.
week. What about trailers, man? Trailer
Park? Yeah.
Jump right into
Willow
sequel series.
Willow!
One of my favorites.
Warwick is back.
Awesome.
I don't like his hair.
No? You don't like the
flowing locks? No.
It looks dumb. Push it.
Come his back or stuff.
No, it just...
Oh.
I just don't like that hairstyle.
It looks stupid.
I should just kept the real.
I was hoping it would be like long and like silver from knowledge or whatever.
Probably make more sense.
I'm excited though.
I've always loved Willow and I was always bummed that we never got anymore.
I assume they're going to mention Mad Martigan, but I'm not sure if he's in it.
I don't know.
Maybe they just won't bring him up.
I don't think he's in this one.
Yeah, probably not.
I mean,
unless he shows up as a surprise
in the finale or something,
but I doubt it.
It just depends on how popular it is, I guess.
Yeah.
I don't know, but I'm ready for it.
You excited, Brian?
I'm into it.
I love Willow and Warwick Davis.
He's a national treasure.
Should be protected, always.
And I like to do.
doing some callbacks.
The
actress that's the queen in this one.
I believe she was
Mad Martigan's love
interest in the first one,
same actress they brought back.
Okay.
I'm down. It looks like it could be epic.
You know,
up there. So it looks like more of the
continuation than a retelling, though?
Yeah, that's what they called it
a sequel series.
so okay
I'm the I'm the odd man
out I'm the only one that really didn't get into Willow so much
when I was younger
I guess I have no heart
I'm stoked about it Willow with a
with a with a high budget that's
I mean that could enter Lord of the Rings territory
I mean I doubt it but
they could take a shot
it could do well what what network is it coming on
Disney Plus Disney Plus
I got some back
so Lucasfilm
Oh yeah
No
No Billy Barty
Rest in peace
Ah
Is
Those two little guys
Are gonna be in it
The brownies
Or whatever they were called
They had some little ones
Yeah I don't know
I don't know if it's the same actors
Probably not
They've seen them
They showed up in the trailer
Yeah, like near the end
Or at least that little tiny race of people did
But I don't know if it's the same people or not
But I'm sure they'll throw some jokes in there that are going to be awesome
All right
Series will premiere on Disney Plus
November 30th
And moving on to
Andar
Star Wars' next
New series
is a, Nez, why don't you,
you're the Star Wars guy here, so.
Is this a one-in-done, or is it going to be
multiple seasons?
Already been greenlit for a second season.
Okay, well, this is what I want with the first season.
I want the younger years.
I know they're just going to do flashbacks,
but maybe the first few episodes
will be his younger years.
Because if you guys remember in Rogue One,
he said he'd been fighting this this battle against the empire since he was a kid
wait who's in this one de Diego Luna oh okay okay okay I got you the make the Cassian
Endor from okay one so I want to see the younger years of him dealing with what's going on
and that that's about as much as we know we don't really know his story too much he didn't
really go into it. Well,
Rogue One wasn't about him.
So I'm glad that
they're going to show a lot
of that. I really
want Cheroot and
Bayes to get their own
show, but I don't know if they'll ever do that.
I'm ready for it. I want them to be
I know
it's
him and his crew
battling the Empire and all that. So
that's awesome. But
I kind of don't want any Jedi in it
and don't
Vader if he does pop in have it be minimal
yeah just more of a cameo type thing or a
battle scene yeah pop in when he needs to
don't let him be the main focus
on what this is because this is just them
him dealing with up to all the
events that happened
before Rogue 1
and everything.
So I don't know.
I just,
I want to see all that.
So,
I mean,
I'm ready for it.
I mean,
and I'm excited
that they,
they're doing this
because when we were first introduced
to Cassian,
like,
we didn't,
we didn't know who he was.
So I'm glad that they're doing this.
So this is set
between Return of the Jedi and Rogue 1 then?
Is that where it is in the time?
This is way,
way before Return of the Jedi.
Was it?
Okay.
This is before Rogue one.
This is, this is
Revenge of the Sith
In between Revenge of the Sith and Rogue 1
That's what he meant
Okay, but it's still before
The New Hope
Yeah, it's before all that
Okay, all right, man, I'm so off on the
fucking Star Wars timeline, dude
I could quote you the Star Trek timeline
But not Star Wars so much
So this is just strictly a Rogue 1 spinoff
Yeah
Yeah.
Look.
Just make it good.
Just make it.
People are going to watch it.
Yeah, hopefully it's good, but I don't know that people are really going to care.
I don't know.
If they make a good story.
Yeah.
If they're going to do a lot.
I'll watch it because I am too.
I just want to see a lot of death and destruction.
Right.
And it because he was saying, he goes,
We've done a lot for the rebellion.
We've killed.
We've done this.
We've done that.
So I want to see all of that now.
But like if I try to convince my wife to watch it and I'm like, oh, yeah, it's about that guy in Rogue One.
She's going to be like, no, I'm not doing that.
You know?
So I'm ready for it.
It looks awesome.
It does look pretty good, though.
I mean, if you're a Star Wars completest, you got to watch it.
What are you thinking, Brian?
I'm in
I like the character
from Rogue One
and
they sound pretty high on this
for them to already
green light of
second season already
So
Oh they've already green lit a second
So it's not a one-off then
No
Okay
That means there's going to be some cameos
For sure
Yeah
Guess there would have to be right
You got to put them in there
To get people excited
I think if
Anyone, it'll be that young guy that did solo.
I think...
Ah, okay.
If they're going to have already greenlit it for a second season,
they're going to have to have a big moment in the last few episodes where everybody goes,
oh, my God, I can't believe it's whatever.
I think if he...
Right, right?
They don't have to put him in there, but I think he could pop in.
Chewy could pop in for whatever reason.
Itchy could pop in.
Right.
Chewy's dad, man.
Come on.
You never seen this holiday special?
You know what?
I put Lumpy in there.
Maybe on in Chewy, but I can almost guarantee you Vader's going to show up.
Yes.
They would have to show him.
Yeah, because Vader's around in there.
I mean.
Right.
Um, Boba Fett or one of them could pop in for whatever reason.
Any of the bounty hunters.
Yeah.
I don't know what they're doing with Darth Maul, but he's, he could be around.
They could bring in the, the Crimson Dawn or whatever they were called.
I can't remember.
Yeah, I don't know how they brought him.
They brought him back to life.
And they, like, haven't done anything with him, except.
in the cartoons.
They did more with them and then they were
I thought he was going to be in
Obi-1, but they're going more with Darth Vader.
But my fingers...
I showed up in a post-credit scene.
My fingers are crossed
that, well, he's not Darth Maul,
he's just Maul now, that he
comes into
Obi-1. I don't know. I don't know
what they're doing, but
I mean, there's a lot
they can do with
With Andor, with them bringing in people that helped with the fight against the empire.
So I don't know, really, who.
Jan Erso can't pop in because they don't actually meet until Rogue 1.
Okay.
Saul Guerrera could pop in for whatever reason.
Ghost dog, Forrest Whitaker, I think he can pop in there.
they can use Grand Moth Tarkin again
either CGI somebody or just get a younger version of him
And I still want to know
I mean I've said this before
They're showing all in these new stuff
They're showing a lot of females in the empire
Okay
Did they just kick them all out
And then
Is that what they do?
No I mean is that what they're doing
Because from Star Wars on
well Star Wars Empire
and Jedi there was
no female
in the empire
which is all dudes
you're not supposed to notice
yeah
how are they going to explain that away
Philip yeah
they're gonna black Christmas it
I mean because even in like in the
newer Star Wars films
there was more
female officers in the first order
as well as female
stormtroopers which I thought was
awesome but I'm just
what happened in between these three films
that they just kick out all the women and then bring them
back I don't know you know what I'd rather them just put them in
then hear the story I don't know I didn't write at all
it's kind of like in Star Trek when they keep changing the way the
Klingons look and then they try to go back and write a story to explain it it
it was a genetic thing or something that's like yeah just fucking leave that out
just fucking leave it in there and don't explain it and just
move on with the story you know you all understand
understand makeup skills that better.
Have they ever done a just Klingong story of just them?
They haven't done it's Klingon series.
They did a Klingon story arc in season one of Discovery.
Like the first half of the season was Klingon.
The second half was all Mirror Universe in season.
Like books.
Has there ever been books written on just Kling on?
Yeah, there's been probably over 500 Star Trek books
written. I know there's been a lot of Star Wars
books, right? Because I remember reading
the Allen Dean Foster book, Needle in
the of the Mind's Eye.
And that came out like right after the first
Star Wars movie and it was about, I guess,
Darth Vader's training or something like that.
There's been a million
books. So,
yeah.
I'm hoping,
but then I don't know really, because they did
show, I think they showed the species
of
he was in shadows of the empire.
Um, he was the bad guy.
I can't remember his name.
Theo's probably screaming it.
He's yelling, jumping up and down.
Uh, there was a, a bad guy in it.
I can't remember his name, but his, his species was...
Blue guy?
The species, I think, was in Obi-1.
Admiral something or other?
I can't remember his name, but I think it was like Zanzor or something like that.
I don't know.
He was coming into play.
I think I know who's...
you're talking about, the blue guy.
Yeah, he's like some badass
evil admiral.
Because he's going to come in
and he's going to be a part of the big series.
They mentioned him, I think, in
the last Star Wars thing.
Because he
went in the story, I don't
know if this is canon anymore,
in shadows of the empire,
when
the emperor was talking to
Vader and
in Empire, when he was
telling that there's a new threat and he was telling
explaining him about Luke. That
guy was pretty much standing in the
same room as the emperor, as the emperor
when he was telling
Vader about
Luke. I couldn't tell you, man.
Theo's yelling.
Yeah, I can't remember that guy's name.
Brian, any ideas here, man? Help us out.
Nope. I'm hoping
to bring that guy in.
You guys are past my pay grade
when it comes to Star Wars.
I'm not going to be able to sleep.
You'll think of it, man.
See, yeah, I think I was talking about a different person.
I'm ready.
Zon or Vaughn or some shit like that.
Vince Vaughn.
Zoss.
Oh, I think it's Zysor.
X-I-Z-O-R.
Okay.
Sure.
he he was in shadows of the empire so i i don't remember if he died or not i don't remember it was a long
time ago but i don't know i'm hoping that maybe he pops in somewhere or i don't know again
with and or they can bring in so many people and if they do the cameos thing and vader
don't make him a main focal point of this just keep it on andor on his his rise and his
trying to battle the empire
so that's what I want. Thron
is who I was talking about. Grand Admiral
Theron. Expect to see him
soon. I recognize that name.
Yeah. It was a blue guy.
Yeah.
The blue guy. That was our
Star Wars Minute, right?
All right.
That's also coming
to Disney Plus August
31st.
Our one and only movie
trailer we're going to talk about is the
new,
I guess what do you call it,
survival,
thriller, horror,
esh, movie star,
Idris.
Basically a remake of Kujo,
it looks like,
but with a lion.
Ghosts in the darkness.
Yes,
this one is Beast.
What did you guys
think of Beast?
It looked better
than that Megan Fox one.
Oh, that's right.
Megan Fox did it.
Oh, was it rogue?
Was that it?
I'll watch anything with Idris Elba in it, but like I said, this looks a lot, just like the exact plot of Kujo.
So, I don't know.
Trapped in a car with some animal trying to get in, you know?
I mean, he's got a rifle in one scene.
Why doesn't he just shoot the fucking lion?
Maybe it's a demon.
I don't know.
Is that the guy from District 9?
Mm-hmm.
Charlottes Oakley.
Oh, yes.
What was it?
He was in 18.
Oh, yeah.
He played the crazy guy in it.
He was Murdoch.
Mad Dog Murdoch.
This looks cool.
It's interesting.
I mean, I love EGissela.
And I love that guy, the other dude.
But if they're stuck in this Jeep or whatever, I mean, how hot is it?
That's what I was kind of thinking.
I mean, I know it was hot in Cujo.
Yeah, that's right.
and that was in New England.
Yes, I don't know, but I'll check it.
Is this going to theater or?
Yeah, it's going to be a theater release August 19th.
Oh, summer theater release.
They thought highly of this, and I don't imagine that it's going to do very well.
This next weekend, there's two horror movies coming out.
There's a watcher, which is kind of more of a suspense, Hitchcock-looking type thing,
and then there's the David Cronenberg movie.
What are those?
The Cronenberg movie, it's what's it called?
Crimes of the Future, Brian.
Is it going to be in the theater?
Yeah, in the theater.
It looks pretty trippy, too.
It might get me back on the Cronenberg van wagon.
Not saying his son's a better director than him or something, you know?
It comes out next week?
Next week, and then there's one called Watcher that looks pretty creepy.
Yeah.
That one that has the main girl from, what was it, it follows?
Ah, that is her, isn't it?
That is her.
I haven't seen her in anything in a while.
She was in the guest, too, right?
Mm-hmm.
With Dan Stevens.
What's the other movie called?
Crimes of the Future, the Cronenberg.
That one looks interesting.
It looks really.
It's in the future, Nez, and they figured out how to get rid of pain,
or block all pain
so people get these really weird body modifications
and they're like opening each other up
and like licking their organs and shit
because they can
because they don't feel any pain.
Kind of weird.
And then what's his name?
The dude that was in the Lord of the Rings.
You know who I'm talking about.
Green Book.
What's that act?
Vigo.
Vigo.
Yeah, he said something at the beginning of the trailer
like maybe when we took away
the ability of humans to feel pain,
it wasn't such a good idea.
Yeah.
Nez, what's her name's in it from Twilight?
Which one?
Bella.
The one that breathes through her mouth.
Yeah.
Which one is she going to be in?
Crime.
Yeah.
Bella.
What the fuck?
Oh, Kristen Stewart.
There you go.
It'll be an interesting one to watch at the very least.
Yeah.
I'll watch anything she's in.
But that last movie I saw Shane Wind was
Could have been good, but it just fell apart for me
The one they were underwater, yeah
I love that one man, that was in my top ten
It was in my top ten
I saw it twice in the theater
But that like, she didn't like a Cinderella movie or some shit like that
Snow White, something like that?
I only saw the first
I only saw the first one, I didn't see the second one
I don't know if she's in it.
She was terrible in that
Yeah, she's been at a bunch of indie stuff
to, like, personal shopper and stuff like that.
Oh, I watched Why Felt Sleep.
I started watching Spence.
Spencer.
Spencer?
Spencer for hire?
No, she didn't have...
It's a movie on...
I think she was nominated for Academy Award.
Spencer?
Oh, it's on Hulu.
She's the princess.
Okay, I saw that.
That's boring, man.
That one of you fell asleep.
It's better than a sleeping pill.
Just wanted to watch her and fell asleep.
That was back.
ad.
All right.
All right.

And we got Marcus Will Turner.
My latest review on the Super Network is up and ready, folks.
This time around, I experienced one of the most sadistic and uncompromising visions of horror to come out in a while.
A bona fide extreme cult classic in the making from Taiwan, streaming exclusively on Shutter after shocking audiences on the festival and independent circuit.
This one is for the hardcore only.
Anyway, take a gander at my thoughts on the cinematic hellscape,
and as always, support Bied and Marcy on the site.
What was the movie he was talking?
I think it's the sadness, right?
The sadness.
Yeah.
Yeah, they're good.
Yeah, it's awesome.
Apparently.
Yeah.
A lot of good things.
A lot of gore.
Okay.
Crazy shit.
Yeah, kind of like the original top gun, there's nothing but good things, man.
homo erotic volleyball and love stories and yeah everything everything you want to see niz i think it was good
was a soundtrack yeah but there was only a couple of scenes of that in top god it was a lot of it
listen to that episode i don't want to tell the story i know i've got it cute up i got to admit it was
definitely a buffer between the action moments though so i give you that you you guys talk you
you guys talked about coffee cat like you were shitting all over it and then at the end
nez was like i like it that movie was awesome i never know about you nez so that was stupid and what
they did was stupid and that guy was stupid and we loved it that was hell of good that's nes for you
well that was a eden lake one last week man i was like shitting all over how everybody
acted because they were all fucking stupid and then uh i was like i well it's a great movie
I think you said masterpiece, didn't you?
When we watch the film, when we watch these films before we tear them apart, I mean, I love Copycat.
If you guys listen to the episode, thanks.
But as we're talking about it and then we start, well, shit, that was, that was dumb.
That doesn't make sense.
It doesn't ruin the movie.
I mean, it's still, it's still an amazing film.
But, yeah, Top Gun, it was to listen to that episode.
All right.
I get it queued up.
I'll never understand you, Ness.
All right.
Regarding the mummy, Ari Wilming.
The mummy.
Which one?
Good question.
I think the original.
Oh, here we go.
Ari Wellman says he lived in British Columbia and was an extra in the 1920s.
The mummy was?
I don't know.
Ari Wellman?
I don't know.
that doesn't make sense
how old are you
dude
I think
there was something missing out of that
I think Ari's like
in his 20s
so
I think he's
gonna call bullshit
sorry
all right

What are we doing mine?
You're what?
My picks.
Oh, Brian.
Come on, dude.
I totally forgot about that.
When we were supposed to do it, I think I was out of town or something.
I think Brian forgot about those three on purpose.
What was it?
A deal is a deal, man.
Mean girls, clueless, and Little Darling.
Yeah, I like those movies.
Great movies.
I don't know if I've ever seen Little Darling's.
I saw it years ago.
Wasn't it at a summer camp or something like that?
Said at a summer camp?
I'm not sure I know what it is.
Maybe I'm thinking of...
Little darlings, yeah, it was just on the camp.
Okay, I remember it.
With that one, everyone, if you haven't watched the movie, it was different times, so...
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
They couldn't do that today.
Yeah, I might use a few words we couldn't say now, huh?
No, there was some situations in it that you can't do.
It was different times yesterday.
That's how it works.
No shit.
Yeah, no shit.
And don't forget we have a contest going on.
So just email the horror returns at gmail.com, your name, address, and how you first heard about the show.
And you'll be in the running for a steelbook of Cabin in the Woods.
And we have another random entry.
Hi, this is Peter David Stanley Ferguson from one.
Oh, from Asteroa, better known as Zim Vader.
Hey!
Hey, there's the man.
I first heard about the show by my friend Tim Gavis from Gavis from The Horror for Dummies.
Yeah.
Being a guest and being a guest on your show.
He reviewed Jaws 4 with you.
Anyway, I fell in love with you all from that episode.
And so thanks for having Tim as it made me a fan for life.
Love to you all.
Yeah, Tim's great.
All right.
Awesome.
Really quick.
Do they still sell those?
Cabin in the Woods, Steelbooks?
Brian, I saw it once.
I didn't.
Every time I went bag, it was gone.
Yeah, I think they're gone.
Oh, did you get a Batman?
The Batman?
Yeah.
I got mine, too.
I was happy.
Limited edition.
Cabin in the woods, guys.
It was a lot more easier finding the Batman than it was Spider-Man.
I missed that one completely.
Hmm.
Because the Batman, you pre-ordered it, but I guess,
and then all that was sold out
so I was like man weak
I thought I missed it because that's how Spider-Man
went all the pre-orders it was gone
but the day before
I don't know the day before
the Batman came out I went on Best Buy
and I saw it so I just
bought it so
I got I was about I was ready to pay
70 bucks on eBay for it but I'm glad I didn't
so yeah I like the Batman
but it's a little too long for me man
like they could have just ended at that scene
where he visited him in the prison, I thought.
No way.
He gave me two more hours of it.
Okay.
I'm excited about more stuff.
We'll see.
But this week, we're going to move on to our featured attractions.
We're going to go back to where it all began with Wormwood,
and also check out the brand new Wormwood Apocalypse.
Where was that one streaming?
First one.
I think it's VOD.
Or so it was on shutter, right?
Shutter or AMC Plus, I think.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's where I watched it on.
He's AMC Plus.
But the new one is VOD is 2022, I think.
Yeah.
Yeah, you can rent it.
You can rent it, Nez.
Yeah.
I'll rent it.
With that, everyone, I don't remember the first one.
I saw it once when it first came out.
And I watched the trailer.
I don't even remember any of it.
so but um the second one i'll have to rewatch them and then watch the second one but yeah i'm i'm out
here everyone my son did a surprise visit sneak attack on us so uh he just showed up him and his
girl and his cats uh i hate those things but nothing again cat lover it i just fucking cats
i just don't know cats um but um yeah check out the the latest action return
when we reviewed Top Gun and copycat for stream themes.
Brian and I were going to do Maverick really soon.
And yeah, that's about it.
So, but, oh, East Society, we got a new one out.
I just dropped a new MacNess podcast, episode 132.
It was our live show we did when I was in Tulsa at the venue shrine.
Shout out to Oki Podcast and Tokes Signals podcast.
Josh and Russ.
on stage just doing what we're doing and talking
about this and that and porn and Star Wars
and everything else.
So with that,
I'll be back next week, everyone.
So until then, party on.
Take care, man.
Party on, you. Later.
All right.
On to Wormwood,
2014.
A talented mechanic.
Is that what he was?
He kind of became one.
Super talented.
Yeah, super talented.
Prepares to battle his way through hordes of flesh-eating monsters after his sister is kidnapped on the eve of a zombie apocalypse.
Director, I'm going to fuck this up.
Kia Roach Turner, also known for Necrotronic.
Brian, you saw that one.
Yeah, quick review coming on that next week.
Okay.
riders also
Kia Roach Turner
with Tristan Roach Turner
The film took four years to complete
As they only worked weekends
Wow
During filming
A serious accident occurred
That nearly caused the death
Of Bianca Brady's stunt double
She undershot her jump
From the back of the lad truck
onto the bonnet of the zombie truck
and was nearly run over.
Fortunately, she was unharmed.
That shot, when it happened,
I reminded me so much of the Australian chick
and the Tarantino movies.
Zoe Bell.
Yeah, because, like, she's a straight-up stunt woman,
and that looked, I was like, oh, that's Australian stunt woman right there.
All right.
Lance, what did you think about Wormwood?
but isn't it like road to something or something somewhere
Road of the Dead
Road of the Dead there it is
okay this movie's
if I was Nez I'd be saying it's hell of good
this is a fun fucking movie man
it's like Brian said
you know very talented
mechanic leave your brain at the door on this one guys
oh yeah this is not
this isn't one that you're going to be
you know spending a week talking about
what the hidden meanings were and shit like that
and wondering
how they jury-rigged
a car together
in like five seconds
that could run on zombie fumes
but
that's where the talent comes in.
I like the way
they figured that out.
Well,
I think it was a fun,
I think it's a fun movie
from start to finish
and normally I don't like it
when a movie starts off
with people sitting around talking
and the guy says,
well, I, you know,
how'd your day start?
Oh, well, I kill my wife and wife and child.
like with a straight face and then they
go back and show it. Normally I hate that
storytelling method. I like him to just
like kind of like do it in a more linear way
or just like go full Pulp Fiction where it's like
here, here, there, here, there.
So that seems like to me lazy
storywriting, but in this case it worked.
Well that guy that started with was like
super likable.
Like he was really funny.
Everybody was likable in this, man.
Everybody was fucking likable.
every there wasn't one character that I wasn't rooting for out of the survivors um the the one guy that was
uh in the garage with him that like had kind of a sense of humor that was wearing the armor that always
was kind of cracking wise and stuff like that he he didn't make it very long but yeah definitely
laughed at him uh benny benny was a fucking gas he was really funny benny was the best
Benny was amazing
The sister was super hot
and she was definitely a survivor
and I kind of thought it was a little bit clever
how they, in the first movie at least,
I thought it was thinking ahead
a little bit to the second one, but I won't do that yet.
But I thought at least in the first movie,
they did it in a clever way.
And I thought it was pretty cool
the way that she moved her hand
and noticed the zombie's hand moved
and she was able to get him to.
And there was some real tension
in that scene with that fucking mad
surgeon in there wearing the yellow
hazmat suit. Yeah.
There was some serious fucking tension because
she would get a zombie to come up and like
almost kill him and then he'd whack the zombie
and just like, oh fuck, now what is she going to do?
The rest of them are all chained up.
She's still fucked. Then he would go
in and like extract and give her that blood
and stuff like that and tell her only
five more of these to go.
What a great fucking character though.
Everybody in this guy.
Great.
With the dancing and all that?
Yeah.
I loved it.
Maybe Alex Garland got that from that, got Oscar Isaac dancing and ex Machina from this movie.
What do you think, Brian?
Possibility.
What are your thoughts, dude?
I don't want to talk about the whole movie on the first blush.
Yeah, a super fun movie.
This is always going to hold a place.
in my heart because like I said
this movie was basically
how this show
we do came together
so
I thought the cast was great
I like the introduction of
there's a lot of zombie movies that get made
I like when they try to twist it
a little bit add something new and I like
the whole fact that for some reason
all fuel
doesn't work anymore
yeah find out but they find out
The zombies are creating fuel from themselves.
Yeah, that was a weird twist.
That was.
Yeah.
That kind of made it necessary to use the zombie's breath to power the cars.
Added an extra little nuance in the movie.
Like I said earlier, Benny was amazing.
I kind of wish he would have made it through a little bit longer.
Yeah, me too.
Yeah, he did pretty good, though.
He did pretty good.
You know, and he was one of the first zombie heroes I've seen in a while in the movie.
And they used the word zombie in this.
I love that.
In fact, I think he's the first one to mention.
Those are fucking zombies, mate.
I fucking love that guy, man.
He's so funny.
I thought the practicals were pretty good.
CGI wasn't that great, but.
It was passable.
I never saw anything that made me angry, like, escape room or something.
Yeah, that was the Citi-I blood.
I try.
I guess I was just having so much fun watching it.
I was able to sort of put it out of mind.
And it depends on how big you go with it.
You know what I mean?
Like, there was really bad CGI and, like, Event Horizon, which we talked about at one point.
But it was only for, like, one scene.
and who gives this shit.
But it was, it was, it was bad.
Now, this one, I don't even remember it.
Do you guys like the way that they, you know,
showed that scene at the beginning and then they went back
and showed everybody's individual story?
Like, they showed his story and his story arc,
and then it went, showed the sister.
And at that point, I didn't know that was brother and sister, did you?
Yeah.
No, I didn't know.
but it did take them a little bit to get there,
but I was okay with that.
I think the way that it worked out at the end
and as much action as they kept through the whole thing,
it was working.
And I think they did a good job of explaining things
without drawing it out.
Right.
Like with the whole blood type,
certain blood type is not going to be affected by the virus.
Oh, that's right.
Yeah, that was a good way to explain it away.
Well, and like you said with the gas thing, they were like, well, for some reason, gas just stops working.
I mean, they could have spent a whole lot of time explaining why that happened.
Gas, they could have.
They didn't have to, you know?
All right.
These are a fucking movie.
That's how it is.
Yeah.
Go with it.
Go with it, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's what I like.
They don't insult us, right?
They don't insult our intelligence with this movie.
They just give us a fun movie with great, likeable characters.
a fucking hateable
dancing
surgeon
let's go more into that character
what did you think about that Brian
said oh he was great
for you yeah
he he
I don't know if they were trying to go for this
look but he he really came off
like um you know like one of those
kind of evil Nazi scientists
I thought of Rangers of the Lostark
I thought of Raiders of Lost Star
was giving me those kind of vibes
or like evil Christopher Lloyd
Oh yes
Definitely evil Christopher Lloyd
What did you guys think about the
See I thought there was okay
So there was one sequence that I really enjoyed
It's where he met the one guy
And they kind of like they kind of like kept bluffing each other
Like they would point guns at each other
He'd get the gun away from the dude
They fight
That kind of reminded me of the scene
And they live a little bit
like put on the sunglasses, you know?
And I thought that guy was going to make it.
I really started to like that dude.
And then the next thing, you know, he gets his head blown off or something.
I'm like, no.
Yeah, nobody's safe in this fucking movie, man.
Were y'all surprised by that?
Or did you like that sequence?
I liked it, but just the way the movie was going,
it just kind of made you not want to get used to having a character stick around.
Yeah, don't get too invested.
Yeah.
Like the Walking Dead was the first season.
Yeah.
When it was good.
Yeah, because I like that guy too, man.
I like that they had this like he, I mean, because if he was a dickhead, he'd have killed that guy from jump, right?
He could have.
Yeah, he could have.
Started showing aggressive.
He could have just popped him and it would have been done.
But he was really trying to help him, even when the guy was trying to fight, like, actively fight against him.
Yep.
He was like, listen, man, I'm trying to help you.
please let me.
Right.
So yeah,
it sucked that he died.
But cutting him and killed by a better character.
Yeah,
I guess,
man.
We'll get into the other movie,
but I thought that this one,
this one definitely,
this one nailed it,
man.
There was no character in here
that I didn't,
that I didn't like.
I just,
I kind of wish some had stuck around longer.
And,
you know,
at this point,
by the time this movie's over with
I'm very hopeful for an expanded
universe you know like get
another get another couple of movies
or I guess at one point they were considering
a TV series is that back on the table
right?
Yeah, don't know
I just know it was
I know it was playing before this
sequel so
okay
hopefully the sequel didn't take
four years to make like the first one did right
yeah
yeah
Dude, I'd never seen this movie before.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I fucking loved it.
Good.
It was such a different take on a zombie movie.
It was refreshing, right?
Yeah, that little Australian side to it was like, you know, it was like Mad Max, but was zombies.
And I thought it was fantastic, man.
They tried some different things.
They knew exactly what they were.
You know, they were like, okay, this is not a high budget serious movie.
Let's just put in a bunch of cool shit and it'll be fun.
And it was.
It was super fun.
My son came out and watched it with me and he got stuck to the couch.
He could not get up and go back and do whatever he does.
But he plays a lot of zombie video games, left for dead stuff.
It didn't scare him or anything like that then?
Oh, no, no.
He loves zombie stuff.
Yeah.
This was right up his alley
And man, I fucking, it was a great movie.
I was so pleasantly surprised.
Like, what the fuck is this shit?
It turned it up.
So great.
Yeah.
All right.
Scores, Lance?
Man, I go eight on ten on this one, man.
This is a, this is a new classic.
And, you know, you don't get into any political discussions in this movie.
You don't get into any, this person's right and this person's wrong and fuck this.
And this lifestyle's, you know, the wrong one or whatever.
It's just like everybody in it does their part.
Yeah.
They do their part well.
And good guys versus bad guys.
Zombies that you have to use as fuel to power your car, a brilliant mechanic are a very talented mechanic.
What more can you ask for, Brian?
Am I right?
Brian, what do you think?
I agree with you.
This is 8 on 10.
Nice.
I thought the movie worked.
The characters worked.
Practicles were good.
And I think they did a good job on building a universe that they can continue with.
Yeah.
I'm actually going to bump it up a hair and go 8.5.
I think...
Nice.
Nice.
Yeah, I think they were very original in their ideas.
They made something, you know, while zombies were super popular, but they made something different.
And I think that that's pretty fucking cool.
I don't know why it didn't get more traction or I don't even know if I've ever even heard of this until you guys brought it up.
I'm kind of surprised, man.
I hear about it quite a bit.
As a matter of fact, I've seen a lot of other horror podcasts that have covered.
it. So I don't know. I think a lot of people do, you know, gravitate toward this movie. Just the
simplicity of it, man. Just definitely one of my new favorite zombies.
Movies are an escape, and that's definitely what this one was. Yeah, absolutely. It was definitely
an escape. It was, it was fun the whole time, not really a whole lot of dull moments. I mean,
it takes it a minute to get there at the beginning. Yeah. But they're like, okay, here's the story,
here's the rules. Go.
Chaos.
Yeah, that's pretty much it.
It's fun.
All right.
So we definitely recommend the original Wormwood 2014.
But now there's a new one.
Wormwood Apocalypse.
Is it 2022 or 2021?
I think it's got a full release this year.
Okay.
So we'll do a spoiler alert then, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's a probably pair.
In a zombie-infested Australian wasteland,
soldier Rice, Riss, what's his name?
Rees, Reese.
Hey, Reese.
Has dedicated his best, Carl Urban.
He's dedicated his best life to tracking and capturing survivors for the surgeon general
in hopes of finding a cure.
Hey, that wasn't bad.
we'll see what Tim has to say in Zim
well and then as soon as you said
and B and Marcy we know a lot of
Australian sense
all right
director again is
Kia Roach Turner
writers Kea Roach Turner with
Tristan Roach Turner so same
stuff
probably pronouncing those wrong also
but you guys spell shit weird
man I can't help you
The filmmakers wanted
The filmmakers wanted to make sure the film would be released in Australia first
because Wormwood Road of the Dead was hit hard by piracy
when it was released digitally in the U.S. months before it's released in Australia.
Why did they release it in the U.S. before Australia?
That doesn't make any sense.
Australia and genre fans were not happy that they had to wait long.
than other countries to see a movie that was made in their country and I don't blame
them because that's dumb all right wormwood apocalypse Lance what do you think
well Brian are our universal music woes that we had you know that requiring
us to go back and re-edit every fucking show and take the fucking music out of it so
we don't get fucking sued or pulled again maybe we should use red what red right-hand
because every fucking movie,
every fucking movie seems to use this song at the beginning or sometime in it.
And even the show Peeky Blinders uses it on every episode.
So make a note of that, guys.
It's probably available for like five bucks or something.
Yeah, so maybe we'll make that our intro music.
But I don't know, man.
I guess the intro was kind of cool,
a little bit funny where he was like boxing with a zombie that he put the birdcage
on his head and stuff like that.
I was a little confused
by this one, Jens.
I gotta tell you.
Yeah.
Oh man, for my money,
the first one got it right, dude.
It kept it simple, small group of people,
simple story. This one tried to do
way too much world building.
This one thought it was trying to be the Lord of the Rings or something.
It tried to be an epic.
And all this fucking bullshit
that we don't need to know.
know about there's hybrids and you can do this and you can do that and is this person a zombie or like
basically zombies in this universe can can be heroes so like there's really not too much you know
reason not to even turn into one because you get super strength or whatever but uh i i'm gonna pass
the baton quickly on this one before i say something that goes against what you guys thought
about it i don't want to poison the well but uh i don't know the first one was nice and
simple and wonderful story.
And this one to me was just off the rails.
All right.
Brian?
This movie feels like,
it doesn't feel like a sequel to the first one.
It feels like maybe a third movie in the franchise.
Yeah.
Because they introduced a lot of stuff that we were supposed to just go with
as far as like the virus and the antidote and hybrids and
yeah they came up with an awful lot of shit between those movies in there
they did yeah and um what's i gonna say
considering it picked up where it left off yeah uh and i thought we were gonna get more
of the characters that we ended the first one with but they kind of got pushed to the side in this
one yeah and uh was was that the same doctor no
Apparently they have multiple surgeons because they had the, you know, the one that looked like the same one,
and then they also had the tall lanky guy with the goatee.
Yeah, but he did a little dancing thing too, didn't he?
I guess so.
I kind of thought it was the same one, but he got popped in the face in the first one, didn't he?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the guy died in the first one.
I mean, I guess, spoiler alert, but whatever.
I guess it's a zombie, right?
I was on that also.
There was just too much that was, I can't say, introduced.
It was just a lot of stuff that was there.
Like, we were supposed to know what was going on coming into it.
And I couldn't agree.
I couldn't agree more.
So, and for a movie, that's only an hour and a half, it kind of drug for me.
Yeah, I have to admit, compared to the first one, this one drugged a little bit.
Yeah.
I did like some of the new weapons.
I guess the non-lethal weapons.
The air gun or whatever.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was pretty cool.
Yeah.
He's going to his hands out.
I don't know what the fuck that makes.
Okay.
What'd you think, Phil?
Yeah.
Yeah, I kind of agree with you on it.
I still thought it was fun.
but I can definitely see where
you know,
Lance said he was confused and that totally makes sense
because they did throw a whole lot of just extra shit at you
and they sort of made up the rules as it went along
all the way up to the very end,
which we'll talk about after we get to spoilers,
but I definitely have questions.
And even though
like we talked about how great the first one was
because it was like, okay, well, here's the rules.
Go with it.
Yeah, yeah.
They kind of over-explain it.
Yeah, they kind of did that here also,
except they just sort of kept making up their own rules.
Just throwing shit at the screen.
Like throughout the whole movie.
They were like, oh, well, what if we have a zombie dance like Michael Jackson?
I mean, that didn't happen.
Eat popcorn at the movie and turn into a werewolf.
But, I mean, that was the kind of shit.
It was like they had a, you know, a whiteboard of just ideas that zombies could do, and they were put as many cool ones in there.
They thought they could.
Right.
It was still fun, but definitely did not have the same magic that the first one had, for sure.
Yeah.
Fairly, fairly said, man.
Fairly said.
All right.
Scores.
Before we get to spoilers, Lance.
Um, I, I still liked it more than I didn't like it.
Um, don't, don't get me wrong. I mean, this is a, this is a great idea. Um, it, my hat's off to him.
If they took four years to film the first movie, just because it was probably, you know, such a labor of love.
And they got through it and they put something that cool on screen.
And way low budget. Yeah, and I've got a mad respect for the, for the director. So I'll, I'll give it a six.
Um, definitely, uh, a couple of notches down from the original.
still fun, just too much, too busy, too much going on.
Brian?
Yeah, I agree with you.
It's a six.
It was just too much was introduced that kind of felt like they were just hoping that you just already knew what was going on,
new characters that were connected to the original cast,
but you wouldn't have known if it wasn't a, you know, somebody dropped a line about how they
dialogue.
I felt like we spent too much time with the main guy.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's true.
And not enough with the original cast, but it's still a fun movie, so.
I mean, unless they were going to make it without the original cast to begin with, in which case, they could very well have done that.
Yeah, but, well, we'll get to that in spoilers, right?
Maybe, maybe, maybe they caught them at the last minute.
and said, hey, here's the movie that we have.
Can you come in and do some scenes?
Right.
Yeah, I'm going to...
Same difference here, because I'm going to go 6.5,
because I still think it was a lot of fun.
But still two points less than the original.
The original was way better.
We're a lockstep here, huh?
Yeah, like it, man, the original just kicked me into zombie gear, dude.
I was so happy with this.
such a good time.
Lightning in a bottle.
Yeah.
This one was still a really good time.
It was just,
eh,
well, all the ideas weren't really
vibing as well.
Hey,
but what happens if we make the zombie do this?
Right.
All right.
Maybe we should stick to the rules
that we set in perfect.
Yeah, keep it simple, right?
So yeah
Worth it
To watch I suppose
I suppose
But watch the first one
Instead
Yeah
And it's on Shudder anyway right
All our subscribers have Shudder
I guarantee you
But man this one's worth the rent
I think it was fun to watch
Um
All right
Spoiler
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert
You've been fucking warned
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert
You've been fucking warned
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
Let's, uh, anybody got any questions?
Uh, concerns.
Like, some of the stuff that I kind of felt like they were kind of hoping you were just going to go with without having to explain it that I didn't like was, like, was, like, we love Benny in the first one.
Right.
And now they're with his nieces.
I guess so.
Yeah, they called him uncle Benny.
Yeah, and there was no explanation on how they just randomly ran into his nieces.
Yeah.
That was a blind spot there.
And the antidote.
Same blood type.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
That was a mass.
That was a mass.
The antidote thing and then the like the lab thing where they were like grinding their bones to make powder to snort.
Like something zombie powder
How did you even figure that out?
That's stupid, man.
Yeah, man.
And then the antidote for the zombies to suppress their hunger.
Right.
Was it an antidote or was it just blood?
It was just blood.
It was just zombie blood, right?
Wasn't it zombie blood?
I don't know.
Yeah, because in the beginning they're taking the little vials.
Yeah, how does that work?
The end, they're just busting open bags of blood.
Well, maybe it's an analogy to drug addiction.
You know how you a little used to do it, but a little wouldn't get it, so a little got more and more.
I just keep trying to get a little better, just a little better than before.
You've heard that, right?
Yeah, guns and roses.
I think you should look through the analogy in last week's movie and less in the zombie movie this way.
Okay.
Although it was definitely drug-fueled for sure.
Right.
I mean, you know, he was sniffing the medication off the fucking...
Unbelievable, man.
Co-Ked.
But...
Yeah, it didn't...
Was it just a vial of blood or was it special blood?
Well, later, when they were getting the bags of blood, they were just random bags of blood.
But why did they have just random bags of blood?
Why did they have just random bags of blood hanging in there?
Was that special blood?
I don't know.
Didn't explain it.
Another blind spot.
And then the set...
The ground-up shit, it was like...
I don't know.
I forgot what my phone.
I thought the set design, and this was cheesy, guys.
The first one, I thought it got it just right.
Oh, good point.
Because they minimize the amount of time you were inside the laboratory or hangar, airplane hangar, or whatever the fuck they were in.
this one it looked like
fucking six flags
when they did the haunted houses
you know
put some zombies over there
and over here
mate
we're gonna have a
we're gonna be gliding
grinding to give it to powder
what about
like a fucking fan
turning around
over here you have green lights
over here you have a strobe light
I expected to see
pumpkin head jump out or something
or somebody with a chainsaw
without a chain on it
thought they were
were in a haunted house there for a little bit.
The tube where they shot them up
and down. Who fuck came up with that?
That wasn't in the first movie, was it?
Did I miss that, Brian?
Guys, listen, I know we're a serious
military organization, but what we're really
missing is a tube
that shoots people 20 feet onto the ground.
They had a lot of stuff in this movie
that was air propelled, didn't they?
That and then that gun and everything.
that air gun
Yeah
Hey
I looked up a little
Airgun
kind of a crossbow
thing
but it's just like a big tube
with the trigger
it shoots an arrow
I you killed Big with that sucker
fuck dude remember
was that movie
No Country for Old Man
where he
Javier Bardam
was walking around
with a lamp
with that fucking
cattle
yeah that was the cattle thing
this is a legit like
air gun with a
fucking arrow on it.
Air can be powerful, dude.
It's awesome.
Something to propel it properly.
Oh, speaking of which, Philip, I thought of you in one scene.
I thought I'll bet Philip is thinking, electricity doesn't work that way.
With the scene where the VR headset?
Yeah.
The zombie got shocked.
He's over here and he's getting shocked.
Yeah, no, I did.
When she like stabbed him with the, with the cord, well, I, first.
First of all, she unplugged the cord to stab him with it.
You didn't even notice that.
Electricity over there.
And then when she did, I'm like, yeah, he's also got you by a big metal claw.
So that's probably going to hurt you a lot more than the guy on the other end of the fucking radio signal who somehow got shocked.
I got shocked from a radio.
Did electricity travel through radio signals?
Not that I'm aware of.
Oh, you're a master electrician.
You would know.
Yeah, well, not on anything that they've perfected yet, that's for sure.
Maybe one day, huh?
Yeah, maybe one day.
And then we'll be able to kill mad scientists that way.
I did like the giant monster remote-controlled zombie.
Did you?
Yeah.
I thought the design was cool.
And it sort of kept it exciting.
I mean, it was stupid.
It was fun.
You know, it was a cool design.
He looked good.
Yeah.
Again, though, it didn't it kind of look like universal horror nights or six flags or something like that?
Oh, yeah.
Because he was like seven feet tall.
Right.
They'd get minute bowl and fucking make him into a zombie.
I don't understand it.
Well.
All right.
It was a movie.
It was a movie.
Spoiler thoughts?
Come on, Brian.
You've got to have something else to chime in.
No, I think that's it for me.
Yeah, and then the, I think the main,
the man chick from the last one that could control the zombies,
she was probably a little too overpowered in this one.
I would agree.
Yeah.
Yeah, it just wasn't.
It wasn't very.
I mean, which makes sense, but we don't need to make a movie about it.
Right.
So did she go full zombie, Brian?
or, I mean, is that one there?
I believe so.
I mean, she got shot and killed, so.
Okay.
Well.
Oh, there was my question.
So they blew up at the end.
Right.
And zombies obviously are flammable.
Right.
I.
Are they still alive?
Sequel.
Yeah.
They're going to come back as gas zombies now, right?
And it's one of those movies where they were.
popped up and I was like, hang on a
second. Yeah. Fuck it.
Just go with it.
Yeah.
All right. Is that it for this
week, guys? I think so.
All right. As always, we want
to think of all of you, we want
to thank all of you guys for listening
to another episode of the horror returns.
I think the takeaway here is see the first
movie, right? And if you don't
get a chance to see Apocalypse, you're probably
okay. Yeah.
Fair enough. But the first one I think is
must see, man. That was a badass zombie.
Yeah, I'd say it's a new classic.

Double Edge Double Bill podcast to discuss lamb and hatching.
Oh, boy.
I saw that today.
All right.
Brian, you seen him yet?
No.
Okay, I saw lamb in the theater and I saw hatching today.
So I've seen both of them now.
Neither one.
And you guys, not yet, huh?
not to so much
okay well
we got a whole week
so until the horror returns again Brian
good night
