Listeners beware.
This podcast contains major plot spoilers and the foulest of language.
Join us in celebrating the old and the new, the best, and the worst in horror.
Welcome back, One and All to the Horror Returns.
I'm Lance.
Got them.
Started it off right, baby.
With me as always.
The co-host, Philip and Brian, what's going on, guys?
Nothing much trying to figure out why did it start snowing last night?
And it's almost May.
What in hell?
That's what I said.
It's exactly like that.
I was like, what the hell?
Must have froze over.
Yeah, right?
It's gone already.
So, I mean, that's a good.
thing, but it just keeps
feel like every time I hear
somebody talk about snow
it's like Mother Nature
just like, oh, you said snow,
here you go. Ah, yes.
Did someone call my name?
Like, telling everybody, stop it.
Talk about sunshine.
We were 89
yesterday and then we're high of like 66
today. I think
they were supposed to open the water park next
Saturday, so is it going to be
cool or is it going to be hot? Philip, what do you
think no telling probably hot he's a no tail and yeah so man since this the weather returns
yeah it's 42 degrees mostly sunny oh that's pretty nice for you that's pretty balm for
alaska isn't it might go outside in tank top yeah make snow angels it gets 60 here and i put on a
freaking hoodie it's cold yes all right you guys ready to
to jump and cool the week?
Yep. I can go
first and knock out all my stuff
or I can go last. Sounds good.
Sounds good, man. We're dying to hear how
many Amityville and Children
of the Corn movies you watch this week.
Children of the Corn is I'm going to
wait and I guess
savor that experience
for our retrospective.
Okay.
Because I clearly, not to
the spoilers on our review, I clearly
as a young kid, really enjoy,
enjoyed the first two, and I think it just
it goes down the left, number
two. Okay.
If anybody wants to blame
anybody, blame Steve. It's his idea.
Yes, we will definitely blame Steve.
I'm writing in my notes right now.
Amityville reviews are coming back soon.
I just, I just had to get some
time to sit down and watch
the movies.
Because I'm trying to...
There can't be that many more. Oh, there are.
Yeah, there are.
there's at least 10 come out every year
and they have nothing to do with they have any bill
right
this week I checked out
it was all series this week all TV shows
oh cool
all right this should be interesting
and I actually finished one
which will be my cool of the week
but I'll start from I guess
I'm making tier list of show
with my shows
whatever I need to I want to
get to right now and the other ones I can just wait on.
Bottom of the list is Netflix's Florida Man.
Oh, yes, just the name alone, right?
Sounds awesome.
Yeah.
We never did that podcast with the guys that did that Florida Man podcast, have we?
I think they listened.
So if you guys are listening to this, hit us up.
I know when I talked to him, it was on Twitter,
but I think they have the email, so hit us up.
All right, we're here.
We're here.
Florida man is basically about, you meet this guy.
He's an ex-cop.
He looks like he's kind of got into some trouble,
ends up having to work off a debt to some kind of like,
I don't want to say mob guy because the guy seems kind of a little too goofy to be in the mob.
But he has some, he has some pull, some power.
Do you feel like the guy on Renfield?
He's goofy to the point where I'm like,
why don't your men just kill you and take over the business?
Right.
But essentially he is supposed to watch over with,
watch over the girlfriend,
who he's having an affair with behind the guy's back.
She ends up skipping town, goes to Florida.
He sends, still not knowing about the affair,
sends him after her to Florida.
He doesn't want to go to Florida because he,
he's from Florida.
He got into some shit in Florida, got out of Florida.
So basically now he has to hurry up to go to Florida so he can hurry up and get to hell back out of Florida.
Oh, wow.
And it sounds like a good idea, good premise, but when I'm starting to like figure stuff out in the first episode of what's about to happen, you're kind of losing me.
Gotcha.
And there's a murder that seemed a little fishy to me, a little odd.
And then I'm like, I bet this happened.
And then right before the episode, and it got revealed.
And it just, it was kind of slow, too.
I figured a show called Florida Man, you get all kinds of just wacky characters.
Right.
That's what I was hoping for.
something really fucking wild.
I mean, it was only the first episode,
but the main characters you get introduced,
they're just like kind of regular people.
They're just in situations.
And I want, I want the, like you always hear stories about Florida, man.
I want, I want you to interact with those,
those people, not just the sheriff who seems regular.
Like, if you're going to name them.
the show Florida man I want to see like
some Tiger King bullshit not like
sure yeah that's what I was thinking
alligator wrestling and
you know pill mills like you see
in like claws or pain and game
that type of thing yeah
so I'm
I'm gonna finish it it's a limited
miniseries so it's not gonna go
go past one season so
I'll finish it but not
right now
next up
was
I've seen the premise of this
and I was like I got to check out the first episode
and that's Mrs. Davis, the new Peacock
series. It looked interesting. It's a nun versus
AI, correct? It's a nun
going on a quest. If she fulfills this quest, she will destroy
the world's most powerful AI.
It's weird.
It's intriguing.
And it has Betty Guilp and it has Betty Guil
And I love Betty Gilpin.
She was in Glow.
That's three pluses right there.
What was that movie?
Oh, The Hunt.
The Hunt?
She was the lead in The Hunt.
Oh, okay.
She was in Glow.
I loved her in Glow.
She was one of the main wrestlers.
So I love Betty Gilpin.
And she plays the Nunn.
So that one I'm going to finish.
That one's on Peacock.
I think it was about four episodes out right now.
That may be a real thing.
for too long.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm trying to stop AI from world domination.
I was going to ask, does Elon must show up and give her a clue or something like that?
Well, I was like, this is a good joke to play and have Elon must be the AI.
But they keep referring to the AI as her.
I don't know like Elon is an AI and he's like the good version of it.
And he's trying to warn us about the bad version and it's coming.
I feel like you're right about Elon Musk being an AI.
And somewhere on a desert island locked away is the real Elon Musk.
And he's all like super long beard and hair.
He's trying to figure out how to get off the island.
He's with the other Twitter guy.
Having to drink his own urine.
You stay alive.
Next, went to Amazon for the next two series.
The first one is the power.
Have you guys heard of this one?
That one looked kind of interesting.
I think I saw a trailer for it.
Yeah, basically a phenomenon has happened
with certain
women across young girls
where they get kind of like this power
of electricity.
Right. Oh, I think I remember
a trailer for that or something.
Yeah, and
Tony Collette's in it,
John LiguZamo, and
it's got me intrigued because it's like
you think it's unexplained
phenomenon that it's just happening, but it kind of looks like maybe it's not.
Interesting. Okay.
And the government's involved.
And then, of course, you've got the aspect of these girls getting this kind of electro-superpower.
So you know there's going to be some that are not going to use it for good.
Of course.
Yeah, kind of like the X-Men universe.
So it intrigues me, so I'll definitely keep up with that one.
I think that one's about four episodes in.
And it's got Tony Colette.
And John Ligizamo, that guy seems to be in everything now.
He's got some range, for sure.
Yeah, I'd like to give him credit, except he keeps bitching about Mario.
Does he?
Oh, it's a me, a Mario.
I can't believe they didn't put any Latinos in the Mario movie.
Like he did the last time, you know.
I think Mario is Italian.
The other Amazon series I checked out was the TV adaptation of Dead Ringers, David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers.
Yeah, I saw that you were watching that.
I didn't realize that one had already started.
Yeah, I started like the first 10 minutes of it, and my daughter was still in the room, and I was like, no.
Yeah, because you're going to.
There's scenes of babies actually, well, I don't know actually being born, but you see babies coming out of hoo-haws.
Yeah, yes.
A guy does pull his dick out at one point in the first episode.
One episode in, I will say I do like it's Rachel Weiss instead of Jeremy Irons this time, playing the twins.
She definitely does a good job of playing two separate people.
Oh, this is a series?
Yes.
Yeah.
Oh, I didn't realize that.
Okay.
So I can't really say much about how they're going with the story.
because it's only one episode in,
but I do like Rachel Weiss in it.
I think she's doing a good job of playing twins.
Okay.
I like her.
I don't think she gets enough credit.
I don't think I knew she was British.
I think I did.
I know she's,
I've seen her in several roles where she has the accent.
Just like when we get to Evil Dead Rise,
I didn't know the majority of the cast was Australian.
Well, that shouldn't surprise you, man.
It's like fucking everybody, man.
Yeah, a lot of.
Is there any American actors anymore?
No, I think not.
I think they're, all the American ones start out like on YouTube or TikTok, it seems like.
I guess.
And we are horrible at doing.
That says bull alone.
We're horrible at Dorton's going to pop up with a British accent.
Oh, God.
That'd be great.
That would be great.
I was just about to say we are horrible at doing British and Australian accents.
Yeah.
Yes.
Well, hey, you know what, Jack's tried the American accent.
That didn't work out so well.
That just ruined my wife when she first heard him talk for real.
Oh, yeah, you told me about that.
Yeah, she was like, why is he doing that accent?
I was like, no, that's what he sounds like.
And she was just, I don't even think she even watched the last season after that.
Oh, no.
She was blown away.
Her fantasy was ruined.
Which is weird because if you see him talking in Sons of Anarchy, it's not a great American
Yeah, you hear it come out.
And it's the same one and everything else.
Especially like when he gets like emotional and yells, like you hear it come out.
Yeah.
You're like, I don't know what the hell that was.
I guess we have so many regional accents.
We're like, I have, okay.
Maybe he's like Southern.
But my cool of the week is Netflix's beef.
Oh, I've heard so many good things about this show.
Really?
I actually finished.
I heard great things about it.
a show and it was beef.
I finished this one in two days.
It's 10 episodes.
Episodes range from the
35 minute mark to
45-ish
kind of dependent on the episode.
Okay. Pretty good?
Yeah, it has Stephen Young
who was Glenn
Ali Long.
Okay.
The comedian. The name's
familiar. All of the Asians.
Yeah, so give us
So, no one's been able to kind of explain this show to me, Brian.
I've heard three or four people talk about it on different podcasts.
I still don't know what it's about.
You got the main character, Stephen Young, who's kind of going through some things.
You got Ali Long, Leon, or I can't remember how you said it.
Their name is Alie Wong, thank you.
Okay, that'll work.
Probably made up a completely different person.
Allie something, we got you.
Ali Wong, yes.
She is also kind of going through some things and they kind of have a road rage moment
Uh-oh.
Where neither one thinks it's their fault.
That happens every day.
Basically, you learn that these people have so much going on through their lives
that they have this pent-up aggression.
Uh-oh.
Through this back-and-forth road rage, because they go back and forth through the series
trying to one-up each other, getting each other back.
in doing this it kind of escalates through other parts of their lives and through their families
and it starts affecting like seriously affect their family and business and financial stakes and
all just all kinds of stuff and I thought I thought it was a terribly excellent acted
fucking just the acting was just great it made me want to see Stephen Young in more things
I've never really seen
Ali Wong's comedy
but she played
this like I wouldn't even thought she was
a comedian, honestly.
Oh, so it was, it's serious.
It's not a comedy.
There is some funny moments
and there's some darkly funny moments.
Okay.
But I would say it's more of a drama
thriller.
Gotcha. Don't tell me somebody's dog
ends up dead with its throat slit on the
front porch. There is a dog.
There's a dog on the show.
I won't go that.
Oh.
Let me get up with the dog.
They leave a bag of poop on the front
step, right? Light it on fire?
I won't say anything.
I'll just say after
watching the first episode and seeing
them interact
and he was the first one to
kind of get
back at her.
After the road rage
incident yeah because of course he thinks it's her fault she needs to apologize and she's like no
you're the you're the dumb ass it's your fault you know you should apologize to me and he
basically finds out where she lives and then does something and that sets off a train of a chain of
events and i just after that i just i was in and uh okay actually sounds really good man yeah
Because it's a problem that a lot of people have, you know, like sometimes you just have to let it go.
Yes.
Sometimes you're like, no, man, fuck that person.
They were wrong, and they don't even have any idea that they were wrong.
They think they're right.
They're fucking wrong.
The way the two characters are played, you kind of, it's kind of like Game of Thrones.
You love a character, and then they do something, and you're just like, that's, that's, I'm not with you no more.
and then you go back to the other character
and then they do something,
you're like, I understand where you're coming from.
Then their next choice.
The cycle of retribution, nothing is good.
Yes.
Well, not even that.
You kind of find out
all their pent-up aggression, like Stephen Young's.
Like, some of that, I feel you.
I definitely understand where you're coming from,
but then there's other times I'm like,
well, you brought that on yourself.
It's kind of your fault.
Ah, so they go into some backstory then.
Yes.
why they're in the spot they're in.
Yeah, I think there's an episode where they go back,
they do flashbacks all the way to different time periods of their childhood.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Interesting.
So is it, you said you finished it, is it set up where there can be a season two,
or was it like a one-time event?
I don't think, in the way I remember it, I don't think there would be a season two.
I mean, I would love to see the season two from this, whoever the writer was,
with a different cast.
Okay.
I could see that. That's pretty, that'd be an interesting idea.
Definitely, the way it finished, I kind of was like, I'm good with that.
I'm good. Just lead the story where it is.
So, definitely recommend beef.
I'm adding it to my Netflix queue right now.
Where's the beef? Where's the beef?
Does she show up, the little old lady that says, where's the beef?
She's got to be dead by now.
She was at
Dan's door in the 70s
Yeah, I was about to say that she was
someone's grandma at that time.
Hey, if she's still alive, more power
to you. No shit.
I don't think I want to be that old.
He's a lot of beer. Drinks whiskey every day.
Yeah, and it's a hamburger every, every night for dinner, right?
Yep.
A Wendy's hamburger.
And that's all the series I got.
Like I said, I'm making a list on my phone of what neat, what I want to watch first and what I'll just get to when I get to it.
That's what I'm doing as well, Brian.
I've got a sticky note, though.
So Florida man is at the, I get to it when I get to it.
And beef is definitely finish it as soon as you can't.
Almost clicked on it like six times.
Yeah.
And it's Glenn.
Got to support Glenn.
You got to love Glenn.
And who is he?
Joop and Nope.
Yeah, with the cowboy hat.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I didn't know he's, he's Korean, he's from Korea.
Like, I always thought he was like Korean American.
Yeah, I think I heard that.
Yeah, like born and raised.
I think I heard that.
That's awesome.
I really like him.
Yeah.
So definitely,
uh, can't say too many good things about it.
Or I can, but I won't because we'll be here all day, turning it into a...
It seems like a pretty cool place.
My brother-in-law was over there for a while.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, I'll jump in with my cool week.
It's not terribly interesting, but it is pretty awesome.
Decided to catch up on some Evil Dead stuff.
And so...
Ah, makes sense.
Evil Dead, too.
A lot of people's favorite of the series.
That is my favorite of the series.
I don't know that it's my favorite.
favorite. I really
I have a thing for
the first one that I really enjoy.
Yeah, because that one's
basically, too,
is a remake of the first one.
Yeah, it's a weird way.
With more budget and more comedy.
More budget, but
tonally, they're different. The first one's more
straight horror, while the second one's more
horror comedy and
completely different ash than we get from the
first one. Oh, yeah. Right.
Which leads into Army of Darkness, which is almost an action-adventure horror comedy, you know?
Yeah, medieval times.
Yeah, and so like Evil Dead 2 sort of runs into that.
And don't get me wrong, I love that aspect of the series.
It's pretty great.
As a kid, Army of Darkness was my favorite one.
But as an adult, I really love the gritty nature of that.
first Evil Dead movie and the low budget stuff that they did.
Yes.
With the special effects and all that, I think it's my favorite.
I do love Evil Dead too, though.
I mean, there's nothing in the series that I don't like.
Yeah, like when he's fighting with his hand in Evil Dead too, that's my favorite part.
Listen, that's some great acting right there.
I was thinking that the whole time because, like, we interviewed this guy.
Bruce Campbell's a cool fucking dude.
and he's got that scene where he's just like fighting with his own hand
and I'm like there's some acting chops right there
got some three stooge's actually fucking silly
three stooges action going on wasn't evil dead too the one
where he had all the little mini ashes running around
that was army of darkness okay
yeah that you're the one guy all sang London bridges
he got possessed yeah that's right yeah
London Bridges.
Somehow he was able to drink a pot of boiling water to kill them, but not really hurt himself.
Oh, yeah.
I love Army of Darkness, man.
It's a little slap sticky, but it's great.
They're all good.
Yeah.
There's some great lines in that one.
Give you some sugar, baby.
Yeah.
Well, and okay, so Evil Dead 2 is where they introduced the chains.
saw and he gets everything clicked in and the iconic groovy so yeah that's that's all i got this
week but uh i really enjoyed catching up on that one just watching some sam ramy stuff you know
all right yeah my cool of the week i finally got a chance to check out uh a lot of people weren't
weren't really digging on this movie too much but i i had no problems with it at all i enjoyed it
and it's uh...
Ant Man on the Wasp, uh, Quantumania.
Oh, I still haven't seen it.
Is it on Disney Plus already?
It's not on Disney Plus, but it is, it is out for rental now on, uh, digital.
Out there.
Yeah.
So it's out there for rental.
It's not, it's not as bad as people making it out to be.
No.
It looks interesting.
I love the, I love how creative they were with all the different characters.
Yeah, that whole, that whole world.
Yeah, the little jelly guy that said, or they drink the ooze and then they can understand what everybody's saying, kind of like a babblefish or a communicator, where they can talk to other people in their language.
And that one guy says, you have holes. You have seven holes. I have no holes. You'll have to see it to get it, Philip.
It's like a little jelly guy. He's very, he's very amused by people having holes in their bodies.
It's just seven to be exact, and then you can see him going,
I don't think you're right.
That's a lot of humor in it, but it doesn't go overboard.
And I'll tell you what, Kang is a fucking asshole, man.
Oh, Jonathan Majors.
Yeah.
Not be seeing that guy act no more.
Well, I don't know.
I mean, we've still got the fucking guy playing the Flash in the DC movies.
I saw that trailer before the
Evil Dead movie, so
Yeah, but he's...
Didn't he have a fucking cult or something?
He's not going to court.
That's the thing.
That's the...
He's not going to court? The Flash guy's not?
No.
Yeah, he needs to go to fucking jail, is where he needs to.
Yeah, he does, but I guess that's the thing.
So then, and plus, I think last time I talked
about it, the lawyer said he had evidence, like, text messages.
Oh, no.
That turned out.
That's not good.
He had evidence basically saying Jonathan Majes was innocent.
And I didn't read him, but he put the text messages out.
And from what I understand, they don't make Jonathan Majes look good.
And it kind of sounds like he needs to fire his lawyer.
Oh, no.
And the shit just keeps piling on because his PR team and management company dropped him.
And when your PR team dropped.
I did hear about that, yeah.
PR team that's supposed to get behind this kind of stuff and they fire you.
That's not a good sign.
Man, I've always liked that guy too.
I'm hoping for the best, man, because I love that little after credit scene, Brian.
I guess that what do they call it, the council of kings or whatever?
Yeah.
A lot of people thought that scene was goofy, but I was like...
It was goofy.
That's what I loved about it.
Yeah, it's straight from the comic books.
It's like a bunch of gangs getting all hyped up.
to do some damage.
I like Marvel freaking out there like,
what if we put Samuel O. Jackson as this character?
Would that be okay?
Do you think people would forget?
I heard some rumors because the only thing that Jonathan Majors has filmed
that hasn't come out is Loki Season 2.
So he didn't like a whole bunch of different movies.
I heard rumors of John Boyega.
Well, now why would they do that?
Come on.
So they really, you really honestly think they're going to.
They're going to fire him over this.
Personally, I think they're waiting.
Yeah, wait and see attitude.
Well, they're going to go ahead and air Loki too anyway, right?
Yeah, so.
I hope it doesn't push the programming schedule back any.
The young kid from, I don't know if you guys ever seen Snowfall.
I've heard of it.
I heard of his own.
The main, I can't think of his name.
The main kid, he's a hell of an actor.
And I would rather see him.
I'd rather see Bruce Campbell.
Let's bring Bruce Campbell in his king.
That'd be great.
He's canon.
Bruce Campbell is...
Oh, that's right.
He's a little bit of vanilla, isn't he?
What's that?
John Boyega, he's just like a little vanilla.
Like, there's nothing special yet.
I mean, he was pretty good enough to attack the block, but...
Yeah, they're supposed to be doing a sequel to that.
I'd rather want him to do the sequel of that and see how he is doing that.
Because I kind of agree with Phil.
He is kind of just, he's not a bad actor.
He's just, there's nothing exciting about him.
Right.
Well, you don't want to have, you don't want to have King with like a South,
a South London accent.
Like, hey, bro, let's go destroy the galaxy, eh, mate?
I don't know.
They can make that work, I think.
Well, the guy from Snowfall, he's also British because, you know,
there are no American actors anymore.
That's right. No American actors.
But I think
they absolutely should just give
it some time, see how it kind of works out.
But if he turns out to be
kind of a piece of shit and gets convicted,
he's only filmed one thing
and you have time to change it.
And you have the
you have the whole multiverse thing
so you can say it was a different.
True. Yeah. For that matter,
you could bring in
like the X-Man or something.
And plus it's not,
it's not like, it's not like he's filmed.
We've seen King in a bunch of things.
So we're kind of just like,
that guy's got to be King, you know.
So they'll be okay.
We'll see how it goes.
I guess if they have to course correct, they will.
But,
wasn't he like in Serenity?
What was he in?
He's in Serenity.
The one about the,
uh,
Was that the one about the spaceship?
The team that went around in the spaceship?
No, never five.
Long person.
Okay.
Kind of interested now.
Serenity?
Wasn't there a series called Serenity?
Wasn't Alan Titic in it?
I think the movie was Serenity.
I think it was a sequel to, what was that show?
Firefly.
There you go.
The sequel was called Serenity.
That's what it was.
See, we know.
stuff. We know our shit.
It wasn't horror, but we know
we know stuff.
Was that the same king?
Was it?
I was thinking of the Loki, yes.
Yeah, it was the same king from Loki.
What's with the two
lines on his face, Brian, from comic
lore? Is that Scars? Or is it just
kind of like the way he is?
I think scars, but there's, as you
saw at the end credit scene, there's
different
variance versions.
So I think that particular one, those were scars, I think.
Okay.
Unfortunately for Marvel, all the variants look exactly like the same actor that they may have to fire.
But hopefully they'll figure it out.
I enjoyed the movie, bottom line.
I love the, all the Ant Man movies are kind of lighthearted.
To me, there's a lot of comedy in there.
Like the part where he's skipping and walking down the street,
you've got the old song
from a, you know, from an old TV show
playing in the background and just like waving
and then he goes to get a coffee says,
oh, no, it's free.
You're Spider-Man.
Yeah, I felt, I felt bad for Scott.
He's being recognized for being a hero,
but everybody thinks he's Spider-Man.
Spider-Man.
It's a good movie.
I don't know why I thought the guy from Serenity was
Chiaweedal, I love for, whatever,
Fuck that guy's name.
Yeah.
I don't know you're doing it.
He used to play a head.
I don't know why I thought he was Kang for some.
He's a,
he's, uh,
he's in a Marvel.
Uh,
he's,
uh,
in the Dr.
Strange movie.
He is in the Dr.
Strange movies.
Okay.
That's right.
Okay.
That's,
I was thinking.
Say that.
Say that name.
It's awesome.
I love that name five times.
Not,
not in,
not of this culture.
It's not,
not something we're used to.
Um,
all right,
Brian,
we're ready.
for horror headlines, man?
Yep.
And actually, I just read something last night.
I wanted to start off and ask you about it,
because you are...
Oh, real quick, I caught up on the latest episode of The Geeks.
I heard...
Oh, indeed.
...challenged them to a debate.
What's better, Star Wars or Star Trek.
Oh, yes.
And Sean is the resident Star Wars fan.
Yes.
he is. He had an epiphany that Star Wars was the greatest
franchise of all time. He, my friend, has accepted
your debate. Excellent. Yeah, because
I can definitely cite a lot of references. The canon of Star Trek, they do their
homework a lot more than Star Wars ever thought about doing. So, Sean,
I'm in, man. Let me know the place in the time. Bring your beef.
This does have to do with Star Wars. I don't think anybody said Star Wars, Star Trek was
less nerdy.
Yes, well, that's not the argument.
It has recently come out that Academy Award winner Michelle Yao will headline a new Star Trek movie called Star Trek Section 13 for Paramount Plus.
Yes, the hidden division, kind of the Black Ops Division.
Okay, is that what it is?
Yeah, they go in and do the things that the Federation doesn't necessarily approve of.
Gotcha.
Must get done.
So they're the section that goes in and does those things that need to be done, but we kind of, that's not part of the Federation.
Back when we were doing, I was in Pakistan doing humanitarian stuff, and there were definitely some special forces dudes there.
Yeah.
They kind of blend into the scenery, right?
So I thought this news was cool because.
Yeah, that'll be great, man.
I mean, it's Star Trek and it's Michelle Yao.
I mean, come on.
Well, and considering that her Earth Prime.
character got killed off. She's actually
from the Michelle now,
Yow that we know now in the series is actually
the mirror
universe, Michelle
Yao. So it's the mirror
universe character of herself. So
somebody like that who comes from a
society built on evil and
the only way to succeed and move up in the
ranks is to kill your leader,
they could probably do pretty
well running Section 13.
It could be an
interesting show. And the other
thing I wanted to get your opinion on
was, from what I understand, Paramount
Plus is going to do a new Star Trek
movie every two years.
Huh. That's the
first I've heard of that. I knew Tarantino
was supposed to do one, wasn't he?
I think that's dead. Is that dead?
Too bad. I like
the Tarantino idea, but a new Star Trek
movie every two years sounds like a fucking
terrible idea. Sounds like a lot, doesn't it?
Yeah. Look what it did to Star Wars.
That's the same problem
with Marvel. It's the same problem.
Star Wars.
You saturate the market so much.
I agree with you with Marvel.
They did too much.
That was the one time they shouldn't have listened to the fans.
They should have just kept doing what they was doing.
Star Wars, I blame the...
Kennedy.
Yes.
Yeah.
Because you let...
I didn't, I'm just saying last time I didn't hate...
What was it?
The Last Jedi?
I didn't hate it.
Just like I didn't hate
The Rise of Skywall. Halloween kills.
Oh, I did.
I just think it was a misplaced
excuse me, I just spit on myself,
a misplaced movie
in the franchise because it was so...
It works as a metaphor
because she spit all over the pants.
Yeah.
Oh, Phil up.
Come on, man.
I think she, I'm,
I don't think Phil's wrong.
Because when you see, you had to have seen the movie.
Right.
And it was like, this doesn't fit with what's going on with Force Awakens.
Let's put it out anyways.
Right.
They got so stuck on, oh, well, we don't want to do anything that the fans think we're going to do.
We don't want to do fan service, right?
Ah, gotcha.
So opposed to that.
That they'll switch those people.
We're going to do what we want to do.
And then made the decision to bring back.
J.J. Abrams.
Right.
Just trying to save it.
Yeah, which just kind of made things even more confusing.
Right.
Yeah.
Understandably.
Yeah.
This might be a hot take, but maybe they should have just built off of what they was already,
the direction they was already gone instead of just trying to act like that movie didn't really have a point.
And going back to Force Awakens and building off of that.
Because now you're just a big jumbled mess.
That's my argument that Star Trek.
Star Trek Canon has a lot more love and dedication from the people that are writing it, editing it, directing it, producing it, and all the fans that are keeping up with it.
So Star Trek Canada has to come out with the movie every two years.
Lance, they did bring up the Star Trek movie where they were trying to capture whales and walked around San Francisco the entire movie.
Love that movie, man.
That's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Star Trek 4, The Voyage Home.
And as a matter of fact, Picard's Season 2 was a loving, was a loving kiss toward that film.
So those who talk about not liking Picard's Season 2, fuck you.
It's awesome.
Well, see, this is going to be an interesting debate because Sean is also a big Star Trek fan.
That's good.
So he's going to be able to come back at you with some things.
Okay.
Well, and that was my point.
It's gotten so saturated with like the, the,
the Star Wars and the and and and Marvel in particular which is why I got my people confused
I was like I know he's been in a Marvel movie well I was thinking of the wrong fucking
it's because it's like jury duty for celebrities at this point you know I've just I've given up
on DC at this point that that's the one I've dropped I can't quit the other two I don't know
but there's nothing to there's nothing to follow that's in continuity with DC
Yeah, that's the problem.
They're going to change.
They're going to change it all with the flash.
And from what I understand, watch the flash from there on.
Yes.
Because they're just going to reset the universe.
So.
Why not?
You guys are trying.
Let's see.
I saw the trailer again, like it was saying, and I'm just not super impressed.
You know, got a 75-year-old, a 75-year-old Michael Keaton.
being the big hero of the movie.
I mean, and you got Affleck?
Come on.
You got two different timeline, Batman's.
Yeah.
Okay.
It was some fun.
What was the next story?
What was the next story?
Well, it was tongue in cheek when he was like, yeah, I know.
I'm Batman.
Definitely tongue in cheek.
Let's see.
I did have one more thing before that I read today.
Yeah, I'm Batman.
Like, he's asked that all the time, right?
Yeah.
We were talking about Bruce Campbell earlier.
He, along with, there was a couple of other people,
Julie Bowen and Anna Camp all joined the cast of a new Peacock series
based on the Satanic Panic era titled Hysteria.
Sounds interesting.
Okay.
My man.
I think this is going to be kind of a horror comedy type series.
I mean, I think you would have.
have to, you know, Bruce Campbell.
Sure. Sounds great.
You threw the name Satanic Panic, and it just brings me back to that shitty movie.
Which one? Which one?
Oh, with the...
Oh, okay. Yeah.
Mistake cat. Not the best.
By the way, speaking of Bruce Campbell, Brian, you guys do know I fell for the April Fool's
joke on that Doctor Who thing, right?
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
He got me.
Gotting.
Let's see.
Chuckie, Season 3 is going to begin filming next week.
Yeah, can't begin soon enough for me.
Let's see here.
Holly Berry is set to start in Alexandra Aja.
Next horror film, Never Let Let Go.
You guys don't know, Alexandra Aja.
He did The Hills Have Eyes remake.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Piranha 3D.
Which was great in its own way.
Yes.
And then that terrible alligator movie.
With the swimmer that got stuck down there,
kept thinking about her dad saying,
what did he call her?
You're a top of the heap killer.
What was the term he used for her?
I remember I didn't like that movie either.
It wasn't that great.
I remember hating it.
Really?
Have you seen the one?
I think it's.
on a screen box.
I've wanted to click on it so many times.
This guy's like,
it's like a Korean movie or something.
And this guy is stuck in a big fucking pool with an alley.
No, I've heard of it.
I've heard of it.
I think it's called pool.
It's called pool.
Yeah.
It's like one of those super deep, like Olympic size.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nobody's watched it.
I watched it.
It's messed up with the dog.
Oh, no.
I haven't seen it yet.
Okay, I'm sorry.
I just wanted to watch it and I'm like, man, this looks like it's going to be really fucking bad.
I think the premise is he's at an, I don't know if it's an abandoned pool or a closed pool or something and he, I don't know, he passes out.
Not supposed to be.
Not supposed to be there.
And he can't get out and he's stuck in there with an alligator.
Oh my God.
A giant alligator.
That's kind of a dumb premise.
He passes out in a pool.
and instead of drowning, he's sticking it.
I will say it's stupid as hell, but it's also entertaining.
If you say so, Brian, I don't know, man.
It looks interesting.
Like, that's the one that I keep stopping on, and I'm like,
Right.
Do I really want to watch this movie?
And I will say it's subtitled, but you don't really need to follow anything.
Okay.
Yeah, it didn't look like language.
It's self-explanatory.
Right.
Yeah.
One person and one alligator.
Oh, shit.
It's an alligator.
Yeah, that's about it.
All right.
All right, Lance, I'm going to need you on this one again.
AMC is developing a third series in the Anne Rice Cinematic Universe.
And I didn't write it down, but it's based on some kind of organization.
The telemaska.
Yes.
Talked about them last week.
Yeah.
They're the group.
They're kind of like the CIA of what?
what was the term that you used for it, Philip?
I said they watched all the vampires and witches and creatures of the night.
The supernatural, right?
Is that what you said, Philip?
They're kind of like a supernatural CIA.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So that's cool.
Like in the show is supernatural.
That's what they do.
They hunt.
Ah.
Okay, so it could be a Monster of the Week type show then, huh?
Yeah.
All right.
I'm in.
Like I said, I'm not, I haven't even watched another episode of the Mayfair Witches
since we last boat.
But I'm going,
I will finish it,
but I'm a complete it,
so I'll watch it.
It kind of seems like something
that happens in that series
is going to spin off
into this other series.
So,
I could see that.
Okay.
Yeah,
because they're very much a part
of this series.
All right.
Oh,
I know you're looking forward to this
because you're a big fan
of the books and the movies.
Twilight, Lance.
Oh, yeah.
at last, really.
Yeah, I don't know what took so long.
I have never seen it.
Twilight.
I've never read a single book, and I think I had to sit through the first movie.
Twilight.
What?
Yeah, the ones with the sparkly vampires.
Yeah, but what's coming out?
A series based on the books.
Oh.
Why?
Is Batman going to be in?
No, I actually saw it.
interesting thing, I don't know, the interview with him.
I don't know. It sounded like he didn't want to take the role originally when he
auditioned for it.
Really?
Yeah.
He actually thought he didn't get it because he was, I guess he popped some pills or
something and was kind of out of it.
Ended up getting the movie.
So there you go, boys and girls.
The Dane Dahan School of Acting.
Just shoot up.
of heroin and roll on in
I'm not excited for that but
I heard they're doing a
Harry Potter series
and each season's gonna
each season is going to be based on
a book
well they've already done the fucking movies
what the fuck can they add to it I mean
I was like well it makes sense
because you had
only two hours
to go through an entire book
and this one you're gonna
like maybe
10 hours to go through the entire book.
Great. You'll get a new Harry Potter now, huh?
Maybe the books are better than the movies.
I don't know.
Because I know some people, this sort of falls in that Harry Potter category
where it was like, I don't fucking hate it, but it was just, yeah, I was past that timeline.
You know what I mean?
Same year, yeah.
With you saying that the books were better than the movies, could this potentially say the series could
be good since it would be more geared towards the books?
Could very well be.
If the books are better than the movies, I mean, I've never read the books.
But, yeah, nor have I, nor have I.
This implies that.
I mean, I read the Hunger Games books and they were way better than the movies.
You know, I've never seen the last two movies?
Yeah.
You're probably okay.
I seen the first movie and I was like, this is pretty,
fucking good. And then I seen the second one
and I was like, that was okay.
What the fuck happened? Yeah.
And I just never.
That's sort of the way it went.
I just never. I own them, but I just
never. To be fair, that's kind of
the way the books went too.
Understandable.
Okay.
Lance, it just seems
like this news is just geared towards you this
week. All right. I'll take it.
More Star Trek news. New Richard
Elfman movie coming.
Oh, nice. Forbidden Zone 2.
finally? You know what? I hear he's working on that, but this one's called a Bloody Bridget.
Yes, I've heard of this too. I've heard of this too. Is it finally coming out?
I think it's almost done or it just finished. And is this his daughter? That's the
Anastasia Elfman? Is that his daughter? Daughter, wife, something like that. Or could be both.
I don't judge. Well, with that, I might. I might actually judge.
So let's see what else do we got here.
A Quiet Place Day 1 is now in post-production, so they're almost done filming.
That is the spinoff movie, different cast, a different location than the other movies were set.
Oh, okay.
Which I'm down for.
I like the movies, and I just was like, well, what about the other parts of the world during this?
more stuff had to be going on, right?
Yeah, we're following one family.
Kind of like the Skywalker's.
Hey,
the Star Wars universe
listen to me right now,
the people that are making Star Wars
that are listening to this fucking show.
And they are.
They are.
Which is all of them.
Yeah, I know.
Well, it has to be, right?
Yeah.
No, less fucking dumb shit with random aliens.
I don't care.
The Wands and the Force.
You mean like the Mandalorian when you say random alien?
Huh?
You don't like the Mandalorian?
No, I mean like you're, okay, so the Mandalorian was a cool idea.
Right.
But I need, it's about the force.
It's about the powers of good and evil.
I don't care about the rest of the stupid side stories.
Well, just bring Ryan Johnson back, man.
You get it made.
Oh, yeah.
There you go.
Put some fucking Skywalker shit on that stuff, man.
Ryan Johnson has made some good movies.
Are you good with the Ray movie coming out?
I'm interested.
That would be more forced stuff.
Yeah, I'm interested in that one.
I'll take it.
Just let Dave Filoni and Fabro just handle everything.
Oh, for sure.
I just like it would be really cool to go over the history of this like force.
religion you know so you want you want some old republic stuff i want some older public stuff that would be
really cool some synths some jett i need good and evil like go back to basics yeah it's not
so complicated it's not that complicated so what you're saying is fire kathleen kennedy yes oh whoa
i've been saying that for fucking six years now and as we're saying that she's getting a promotion
Yeah, of course she is.
They can't fire her.
She listens to the show, man.
It's so weird how they fire these executives.
I hope Kathleen Kennedy listens to this show.
Hey, Kathleen Kennedy, fuck you.
It's so funny how they fire these executives.
Like the one lady that worked for Sony that was sending out all, like, the racist emails and stuff.
Oh, no.
Instead of firing her, they gave her her own production company.
Yikes.
It's like, you're not doing this job.
They sent her to a different parish like the Catholic priests.
Yeah.
That's what happened.
Oh, Philip.
That's exactly how this is working.
That's rough.
All right, Phil.
Some news for you.
The return of Lulu Wilson.
The Wrath of Becky.
Rath of Becky.
May 26th release date in theaters.
Are we covered it?
I have to look at the calendar.
I did like the first one, so.
That's a badass movie.
was very impressed by the first Becky. And I, I want to like Lulu Wilson. I hate that, like,
I've put so much hate on her. You've been saying that for years. You've wanted to like her.
Over a decade. I do. I've always wanted to like her, but it's like sometimes she's just too much.
Maybe maybe the wrath of Becky, this is that movie. Yeah. Well, no, I liked her in Becky. I think that she was good. I mean, she was still like a
little bit too much, but
she's getting there. Like, she's
growing into her own. And
like, how are you going to criticize a 10-year-old
actress, you know?
Without looking like an asshole.
Which is exactly what I was doing,
but that's fine.
I still criticize.
Like, the problem was she was very, like,
Shirley-templey.
Yeah. Like,
over-emphasizing every fucking word
that she said,
the thing that she did,
And now she seems to be at least getting better or growing into that or whatever.
But she's doing better.
I like her.
I don't hate her as much as you guys act like I do.
She's getting away from the good ship lollipop vibe a little bit.
Yes, there you go.
I mean, I hope she would.
She has to be, what, 17, 18, maybe 19 now?
20 something by now, wouldn't you?
Yeah.
Yeah, she's just one of those people who looked at her for a long time.
Damn.
Let me look it up while you guys are talking here.
Well, I only got one more thing, and it is from a friend of the show, Stephen Cognetti.
Oh, yes.
All right.
Writer and director of the Hell House LLC series.
That's right.
Yes, indeed.
Wow, she's only 18 years old.
I was wrong, guys.
Go ahead.
Ah, shit.
Filming has a...
Set up a whole fucking new...
Okay.
That's all right.
So Hill House, Hell House.
Filming has officially started.
You done?
Go ahead.
Okay.
Filming has officially started on Hell House LLC Origins, the Carmichael Manor.
I think this is going to kick off a new trilogy.
This is a prequel trilogy.
Okay.
So.
Now, is this going to be kind of like McCabe Manor, where it's an extreme haunt?
Are they going to go in that?
in that direction this time?
I don't know.
He should ask Stephen to come back on the show.
Yeah, we need to.
He's overdue.
He said he came back.
So, yeah.
About that time, I think.
In this bullshit,
they're the nice little golden corn kernels.
Yes.
Beautifully put.
Beautifully put.
And if we have Stephen come back,
we have to have Samantha Bean come back.
Yeah. Oh, for sure. For sure.
Which I see every now and then she watches a horror movie or a movie that before I don't think she would have seen.
So good to see Samantha still dabbling in the horror side every now and then.
Dabbling in the dark arts.
I'm sure her husband's pushing her towards that side.
Right.
And of course, they're always.
wrapping the wrestling side all the time.
Nice. Always good.
And on that note, that is the news.
All right, boys and girls,
you're ready to take that little trip down there
to, you know where, Philip?
We're going to the trailer park? I don't know why it's Cajun, but let's do it.
We be going to the trailer park. I say, I'll say the trailer park.
All right, Brian. Bring us the big, the small,
and sometimes the very, very weird, will you?
All right, we are going to start with the new TV series.
Season 4 of True Detective called True Detective Night Country.
Okay.
The stars Jody Foster and Callie Reyes,
which Callie Reyes is currently the women's boxing champ.
She is a multiple division boxing champ.
Really?
Really? Native American.
Was she in that movie that you and Ness talked about?
Catch the Fair One.
Yeah.
Was that her?
Yep.
I think she was the first Native American woman to become a world champion.
Okay.
And she is playing one of the detectives in this.
So, yeah.
Check out that movie.
Check out that movie and then listen to our review.
Yes, definitely.
And it's in Alaska.
So this one's got Brian written all those.
over it. You know what? I had to look up this
Ennis Alaska, because I've never heard
of it. And it makes me laugh
that they portray Alaska to
look like this vast
waste, not waste land.
I don't know. Sorry. Sorry.
Sorry, Canada.
This isn't Mad Max, right?
But definitely
people. Canada sucks.
Oh, boy.
Oh, shout out to Denny
Louis.
But yeah, I don't think, I think this is a fictional town because I couldn't find it.
Okay.
I googled it.
But the synopsis goes, when a long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tessel Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace.
To solve the case, Detective Liz, Danvers, and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness that carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truce.
that lie buried beneath the eternal ice.
So, I like the cast.
I like the first season of True Detective and kind of the third one.
What is the third one?
Mahershila Ali.
Yeah, Blade was in it, but he was like, he played a young guy,
the first part of the season and an old guy toward the end.
Yeah, a lot of time jumps.
Okay.
What really pissed me off was the second season because with that cat.
It was bad.
It was bad.
That was Colin Farrell, right?
Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn.
Russell Crowe, wasn't it?
Wasn't Russell Crow in that one?
I think he was.
What's her name for Mean Girls?
It was bad.
Oh, yeah, from Dr. Strange.
Rachel McAdams.
There you go.
He was a Taylor Kitch.
Yeah, that's my guilt of Taylor Kitch.
He's actually, he's not a bad actor.
Sure, sure he's not.
So you see.
Neither is Dane to Hunt.
Well, that's a different story.
Taylor Kitch, he was pretty good in Waco.
Was he?
I haven't seen that one yet.
But, yeah, this one,
just the setting and the cast involved
and the whole mystery of just
eight people vanishing
and there's no trace of them at all.
Yeah, well, there was one quote in it that reminded me of Wind River, where they said,
why would somebody run into snow that long barefoot or something like that?
Like something that must have really scared him.
And we know how that show turned.
That movie turned out.
Yeah, people go missing up here, especially young indigenous women.
They go missing up here all the time.
All the time.
Also, taking off your boots and clothes, it is actually a delirium that comes.
with like frostbite and you get like this cold
where you think you're hot and you start taking clothes off
that one movie you you and me saw Phil the found footage one
yeah they they they they said they
I guess the true story or what they think happened is
that that's why they had no clothes on yeah
they started getting delirious when they're going into that
fucking shock and they think they're hot
when they're actually cold.
Yeah, I have heard about that.
Yeah, that's a strange phenomenon, isn't it?
Human brain's a weird thing, man.
So I like a good murder mystery, and for the most part, I like Jody Foster.
Yeah.
More so like younger Jody Foster and older Jody Foster.
She seems to get a little opinionated about things as she gets older.
Oh, does she?
Okay.
Yeah.
I haven't heard any of her stuff.
I was like, you know what?
I'll always like her.
I feel like I maybe respect her more as an actress now.
Because I always heard so much stuff about Jody Foster.
Right.
Like when I was younger and how awesome of an actress she was from like contact and, you know.
Silence of the lambs and stuff.
And I was like, yeah, I mean, she's all right, I guess.
I think one was the first movies I ever seen for her was, it was a rough one.
Lance, help me out.
The one where she gets, it's based on true stories, the one where she gets raped by like six guys at a bar.
Oh, God, yeah.
Now, I want to say the Unforgiven, but that was, wasn't the Unforgiven?
That was Clint Eastwood.
Yeah, okay.
I know the one you're talking about, though.
It was in a pool hall, right?
Yeah, and it was.
It took place on a, the rape was on a pool table.
wasn't it?
I think the pool table or a pinball machine.
I just remember it being like kind of graphic and it kind of went long.
And I was just remember I was just a young kid.
Yeah, that was a rough one.
Fuck is happening.
I just, you know, she had that stalker when she was younger.
Yeah.
Yeah, and realize.
Sure.
Yeah.
And I was like, Jody Foster?
Really?
I didn't understand it.
Yeah.
Didn't that one guy shoot Reagan and say he did it for?
her. That was it. Yeah.
Because of her role in a taxi driver
or whatever. Which is weird.
Oh, maybe I did see
taxi driver first when she was a prostitute.
Yeah. What was this movie
that Brian, y'all got me looking stuff up
left and right tonight.
Yeah. I remember which one this was that
with a rape. That was a very rough one, man.
Well, it definitely
wasn't a candle shoe because that was
a candle shoe. No, that was a
The Accused
The Accused movie, but it's a fantastic movie, but it's a rough watch.
Yeah, it's tough one.
But that's the one where she's going to get some range.
No, that was,
damn, Phil, now you got me look at her movie.
The Brave one?
The Brave one.
Where they killed her husband.
Yeah.
She turns into a vigilante.
Yeah, that one wasn't bad.
I like that.
Yeah.
Not bad at all.
So enough of our Jody Foster love, I guess.
Yeah, kind of sounds like we're in.
We're all in.
We're all in.
I guess so.
I just never understood the fascination with her.
I mean, I'll watch her for Callie Reyes.
Because she is, like, tough and will kick your ass.
But kind of turns me on.
at the same time.
You wouldn't mind getting your ass kick air roused.
I might have said that in our review.
I might have said if he can kick my ass as much as she wants.
Guys,
what was,
not to go off subject,
but what was with that fucking boxing match last night
where the guy didn't even get hit
and literally sat down on the floor in the seventh round?
He got a,
he got a body blow.
I didn't see the body blow,
I guess,
because I saw him get hit a lot,
and then next thing you know,
about five seconds later. What I think
what I think what I think
it might have been a liver shot. It might have been a liver shot.
Liver shot's a delayed reaction because he got hit.
He kind of went on the defensive and
when he was gone on defensive he just took a knee
and then said he was done. Yeah, that liver
thing is a debilitator.
And it's delayed. If anybody's going to put you down
when the body blows, Gerrante Davis
because he was
he was telling Ryan Garcia
don't bring you
he's telling him don't bring your wife or kid
because I'm going to break your fucking jaw
he's like don't bring none of your family
well I just thought it was funny
because I'm definitely going to eat your children
I did hear him say he was
going down in the seventh round
and then Mike Tyson the seventh round
was kind of weird
to me he's going to eat people's kids
he told the other his opponent
I'm going to have you washing my underwear.
The good old days, man.
Now he brings in millions of dollars of money selling weed.
But it seems to smoke more than he sells.
That's a lot of smoking.
Don't get high in your own supply.
Doesn't he sell those of Vanderholyfield like bid out years?
Yeah.
No.
Yeah, they're edible.
They're shamed.
They're shaped like ears.
Does Holyfield at least get some money every time he sells one of those?
I hope so.
I want to say yes because I think the episode, because I sometimes watch his podcast,
I think he had Evander on that episode.
He showed him and they were like kind of laughing about the whole situation.
Wow.
No hard feelings.
It's getting long better now.
That's cool.
I've always really respected Evander Holyfield.
He's a good guy.
Yeah.
I think he's, like, super religious, so I think he has that kind of forgiving nature of him.
I figured he would.
Well, he got a big laugh at it when he seemed a little edible ears, so he seemed to have a good sense of humor about it.
But true detective, night country is due to come out this year.
I don't have an exact release date.
All right.
We're one for one on trailers so far.
All right.
Insidious.
the red door.
Are we two for two?
I don't know. I think we've had a little too much
in a series.
This is what I meant to say there.
IMDB,
I appreciate this synopsis.
The Lambert's 10 years after
the last installment as
Dalton begins college. Thank you,
RMDB. Oh, nice.
Okay.
This basically,
not basically, does have the
original cast, which I do like that.
The same child actors.
Really? Okay.
playing the grown-up version.
Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson.
Patrick Wilson is also making his directorial debut.
Is Lulu in this one?
Lulu is not.
I'm sorry.
But Lynn Shea is.
So that should make up for it.
Oh, all right.
So the kid is the same guy?
Yeah.
Okay.
Same little dumb ass that fell off that ladder in the first movie.
Yeah.
Well, they could have easily recast him.
I kind of I'm kind of in on this one because it has that feel of the first two
yeah gotcha I didn't hate the third one which didn't have nothing to do with this family
hated the last key because that was oh yeah didn't we all didn't we all but this
kind of feels like for Patrick Wilson which is also written by I think story based on Lee
one now something that he wrote i think but uh well i was going to say i sorry i got sidetrack
was trying to read and talk at the same time uh felt like he was really paying attention to what
lee oneel and james juan was doing those first two movies well patrick wilson he has he
directed before he's done other stuff right first first movie he's directed oh okay i thought i thought he
had done something i'm i'm all for it because after seeing when michael b jordan how he
directed Creed 3.
Yeah.
Which Nes didn't like.
He said, look, they got too theatrical.
Hey, man.
Prison bars coming down and...
Take what was done before
and just kind of make it your own.
I didn't...
I had no problem with that scene.
I don't think you did either, Lance.
No, I loved it, man.
I love Creed 3.
Ness just said, again,
I've said this the last three weeks in a row,
I think, to quote Nes,
I liked it better when it was called Rocky Five.
I still don't get the comparisons.
I mean, the part he brought,
as brought up with how,
like Tommy Gunn, he was sitting outside waiting for.
That's his name. I forgot about that.
Tommy the Machine Gun.
Rest in peace, Tommy Morrison.
The Machine.
But I don't know.
It just gave me like the old vibes of the original movie.
So I feel like this is a return to form for the series, which I think will...
Okay.
I don't know if I read this correctly.
I think they're ending the insidious with this story.
That's why they're bringing this family back, kind of go full circle.
Let's hope so.
Well, it sounds like you didn't like it, Lance.
So what did you think?
I'm not super excited about it, man.
I'm a little insidious out at this point.
I can understand that.
I really feel like it's just a, like, more complicated version of the Poultergeist.
I guess that Pultagust vied big time, did you?
Yeah.
I mean, the whole thing from the beginning.
Yeah.
But it looks better than the last one.
It was better than the Kevin Bacon movie.
See, the reason why I'm giving it leeway is because they are taking a big chance of giving a first-time director.
the next installment of this.
They could have gave it to anybody.
And like you said, it's a cash grab, but they could have gave this director's seat to anybody.
And it would have made this money back opening weekend.
Yep. And it will.
Well, I mean, they already fell off the cliff.
There's only one way to go from here.
Yeah.
So that's what I'm saying.
Maybe there's someone came with a great idea.
And Patrick Wilson was like, well, I want to direct.
Maybe he heard the idea and was like,
this is something I want,
because this is,
you don't want to come out with a bad film,
your first directorial.
He was probably like,
I'm not going to be in another one of these stupid fucking movies
if you're not going to let me direct it.
They're like, all right, Patrick.
And I need the original cast back.
Yeah.
Oh, he got it.
And nothing but green M&Ms.
What'd you think, Phil?
Yeah, like I said, I mean, it looks very poltergeisty, but so was the original.
Insidious is not my favorite franchise.
It came out right about the same time as The Conjuring, which I believe is way better.
But I do love Lynch-A.
It definitely wasn't bad when it came out.
the last one was
so hopefully they improve on that
I mean it can't get worse
all right
coming out July 7th
all right
let's watch something tells me
we'll be there
whether we want to be or not Brian
well if it makes it sound any better
I'm going to be pairing it with
the insidious movie
the last key okay
no we already did that one
yes we did
we prepared
with
We did Poulter Guys 2 already too, though.
Oh, we did that spreadsheet.
Damn it.
I forgot some of these movies that I watched.
We were on Poultry Geist.
Ah.
That's Thanksgiving.
We'll pair that with Thanksgiving.
Eli Rott's Thanksgiving.
The Ghosts are stealing me eggs.
All right, feedback.
All right.
Feedback.
This week we shine the podcast spotlight on Queens of NC17.
That's a great name.
Yes.
Sounds like you need to sign up for OnlyFans to get this one.
But that's not true.
Welcome to the sleepover with those girls or parents warned you about.
Crude, little boy.
And with a major attitude.
They're like I know them already.
Yeah.
Andy and
Jana are here to talk about the best and rarest of NC17 and every gym in between.
I hope I pronounce your name correctly.
The Queens come ready to talk shit, get lit, and have a good time.
Stay tuned and stay nasty.
All right.
All right.
Queens of NC17.
That is a great description of their show.
It was a description.
Yeah, I listened to one of the episodes this week, and they, very, very comedy, comedy-centric, which always helps.
Oh, nice.
Definitely not afraid to make fun of themselves or other people.
A couple of them were saying that the same guy showed up on both of their, like, dating app services.
So they were both going to fuck with them.
Like, each of them was going to send him the exact same text, but with someone else's picture.
And then every time they sent them a new message, they were going to change the picture.
but keep the mess
exactly the same and see how long
until the dude flaked
off.
Yeah.
Guys are not very complicated.
Probably won't.
This is crazy.
I got two chicks.
It is kind of straight as they're saying
the same thing, but I got two
chicks.
Right.
Literally the same thing,
like no matter what he responds to,
They're going to say they're both going to put the same paragraph down.
Like, are these bots?
All right.
I don't know.
A little slower on the talking, but.
I know somebody just like that, because he would have showed me his phone,
and I would have been like, you noticed they're the same same exact thing word for word.
And he'll be like, but it's two of them.
But he went for it.
You got to play the numbers game, even if it's only one of them.
Right.
Maybe one of them is real.
Yes.
All right.
We got some extra feedback from Al, right?
Oh, we do.
Hang on.
Let me pull that up right quick.
Yeah.
Okay.
So is it from string scenes or?
Yeah.
We posted the,
the trailer for a white men can't jump.
Right.
Right.
Brand new one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
so excited for the origin
yeah you sound excited
that's the only movie I've ever had to leave the theater for
my my grandma took me when it first came out
and I was pretty young and like she saw some weird stuff
happening because Rosie was getting naked or whatever
hey that's not weird and well I know but
like for my grandma
oh okay be in a theater a dollar theater with the kids
Wow.
But it's Rosie Perez, Grandma.
I know.
So you didn't get to see the Jeopardy, the Jeopardy appearance then.
No, no.
I've seen the movie many times.
Foods that start with the letter cue.
With the letter cue.
Go back and listen to that review we did.
We'll do.
Um, Algernon Ramsoor. Oh, is that Al?
Al.
It's Al. It says, uh, actually looks funny. Uh, the remade house party was pretty good to me.
What?
And he said, of course, I'm going to watch.
Some people liked it. Yeah. Some people liked it.
You, you, you guys know I'm, I've been trying to be on my positivity with, with these reviews.
Uh-huh. Eventually, me and Ness, we're going to review the news house party just so I can destroy that
movie.
Uh-oh.
Is it that bad?
I did not laugh.
Not one time through this comedy.
Whose house was it that they crashed?
And had...
LeBron James.
Oh.
And you can just throw this part...
Like, does he show up with the movie?
Yeah, he's a producer.
Oh, LeBron James in the movie?
All right.
I definitely don't want to watch it.
And what makes it so painful is...
Uh-huh.
I felt like they couldn't let LeBron just be LeBron,
like they told him to act like LeBron.
But what people think LeBron acts like,
and you could tell he was...
I think that's just how LeBron is.
No, I've seen interviews where he's like generally funny and stuff.
It just kind of seemed like, action.
Now be LeBron.
Yeah.
I'm LeBron James and I have a basketball.
What are you doing in my house?
That's how Space Jam movie was.
I was like, wow.
is a worse actor than
Michael Jordan and that's not easy to
do. There's a lot of athletes that shouldn't act.
Yeah.
Well, LeBron is only one of them.
But if you're, I shouldn't act, but if you give me
millions of dollars, I'll star in any movie.
Tom Brady was pretty bad too, and that 80 for Brady
was pretty, some, pretty canned, too,
was what he had to say.
I hadn't watched it, but I bet.
Yeah.
All right
Tavares Ellis said
The original was made 30 years ago
And they decided to remake it
In a year that a white man won the dunk contest
That is facts
Who won it?
I don't know
I can't think of the kid's name
But he
Not that Mabbs guy
No he was pretty
Fucking fantastic
Really?
Okay
The kid could damn near jump out the gym
And
It was a big story
he basically for winning the dunk contest
he because he's kind of he got called up
from the the D league
he basically made more
in the slam dunk competition that he has in his
NBA career
oh wow
shit
and the basketball movie with Adam Sandler
on Netflix is fucking phenomenal
that's a good movie just got to throw that out there
did you guys know that the
because you guys knew that red
socks have
had a decades-long curse, right, where they couldn't win the World Series.
Yeah, the curse of the Bambino.
Yeah, and you know the year that that curse was finally lifted,
it just coincided, by total coincidence,
Stephen King and another guy were writing a book that chronicled the entire season from game one,
and they literally followed them around and watched every single game,
and that just happened to be their first World Series win,
and however many years it was.
Really?
So interesting trivia.
People of Boston need to think Stephen King
you're saying.
That's right.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
There's some Cubby's fans like that too.
Like there was a lot of celebrities that were there
that season when they finally freaking won it.
And that were like season ticket holders and were there every game.
I think Bill Murray may have been one of them.
I can't remember the people that were there.
But, like, there was a lot of, like, underground Cubbies fans that suddenly were there during all the World Series games.
And they were like, yeah, we were here during all the games.
I remember the year the Cubs could have been in there, but some fan named Bart Simpson reached his hand out over with a glove and caught the ball.
They could have been in play.
Do you remember that?
Yeah.
The dude with the glasses.
The last name was Bart Simpson.
His name was Bart Simpson.
Was it really?
to do with the glasses?
I think so.
Oh, I just know this is actually
Nate.
I thought they were just joking.
I remember that because he clearly
at the moment
didn't understand what was happening,
but when he dropped the ball
and everybody was looking at him,
he's like, oh, shit.
He's like, I'm Bart Simpson.
Who the hell are you?
Oh, I hope he said that to somebody.
He probably got punched after that.
I know he had death threats.
Oh, I'm sure.
For years.
All right, and let's welcome our newest member, Jessica Cole.
All right.
Yeah.
Appreciate that.
Brian created a poll.
Who's your favorite universal monster and which one should Universal do next?
Lots of people weighed in on this, and currently the Wolfman is leading the pack.
Is that still right?
Okay.
Yep.
And I told you.
it wasn't going to be Dracula.
I told you guys last week,
and I believe nobody has voted for Dracula.
Wolfman, dude.
Well, Dracula's played out, man.
There's been too many vampire movies.
And for some reason,
there was a lot of votes for Invisible Man.
And I was like, we already got that.
And it was a good movie.
Yeah, it's all right.
Hmm.
I would like to see another Wolfman, though.
Matter of fact, remake the Beneath,
Daccio Datoro one with the same people.
No, no, come on.
That was terrible.
I know it was. That's what I'm saying.
I feel like they had more potential.
So you tell Anthony Hopkins not to phone it in this time?
Yeah.
Good luck.
Like that was a hell of a cast, man.
How did you fuck that up?
Yeah.
Actually, have Anthony Hopkins bring the same energy he had in that Transformers movie he was in.
Oh, boy.
Just ham it up.
Just make him animated, right?
They're going to have to stop calling him.
All right.
Let's see.
Tim Davis says I can't decide they're all my favorites,
but I want them to make another creature from the Black Lagoon film.
I don't make that idea.
Kind of got that one, too.
Yeah.
What was it?
The one Guillermo did.
did.
Oh, the
shape of water.
Yeah, there you go.
I was going to say
the lady in the lake, but that wasn't it.
No.
Lady in the water?
Whatever that fucking M-night,
Shama Lama Ding-dong, bullshit was?
Lance's favorite.
It was one of my favorite.
It's next to the village.
The two that most people hate.
With that one character
in it, who's like, I work this
fucking arm out all the time.
Right.
Right.
It's just my jack-off arm.
That's what he means.
Hey.
Regarding the Sawyer family massacre, Stephen T. Bolt says,
had no idea this is even a thing.
Is it any good?
I have not finished it.
I had to run out the house.
There's your answer.
No, no.
It's not.
And people should go support Steve Merlo.
He posts stuff on our Facebook group all the time.
He does a filmmaker.
I didn't finish it, not because I didn't like it, but I had to run out the house.
And I didn't run out the house because the film was bad or anything.
I gotcha.
Just had to go.
All right.
And our show intro and all of our new logos come from Steve Carlton, from the Geeks.
And be on the lookout for more great stuff from Steve for a biggest Astros fan.
Yeah.
He's already sent me some designs.
If I can just figure out how to get back into fucking T public and put them up there, we'll be said.
Kind of forgot how to load stuff in there.
I might have to get Steve to help me next time we.
We're old.
What he won from us?
I did not know Steve was an Astros fan.
Is he?
I'm pretty sure that's what he said, right?
Yeah.
Like you really fucking take the doctors and the Astros are the greatest team of all time.
I believe he denounced the 49ers.
I think so.
Yeah.
Yep.
Well,
there you go.
True story.

Yes.
Yes.
One dollar.
Come on the show with donated dollar.
A buck a month.
Yeah.
Can I get a dollar?
How much for one real?
I knew that was coming somehow.
But let's move on to our featured attractions.
This week, we check out the brand new Evil Dead Rise.
as well as the 2013 remake Evil Dead.
Don't do you, you little bitch.
Don't cut out.
Fuck you.
We'll start out with 2013's Evil Dead.
Director is Fetti Alvarez, also known for Don't Breathe.
And the girl in the spider's whip.
Writers are Fetti Alvarez, Rhodosayegis, and Sam Rank.
Easy for you to say.
I know.
Syagas?
Syagas?
Syagas?
Sure.
Anyway.
And Sam Ramey.
95% of the remake was shot in chronological order.
This was done because a lot of the film takes place in a controlled environment,
and the levels of blood and violence gets worse and worse as the film progresses.
That makes sense.
By shooting in that order, the filmmakers could throw blood on the walls and not worry about if it would mess up another shot where they needed to be cleaned up.
Always nice.
Yeah.
That's smart, is what I call that.
Although he had a background in CGI, director Fetti Alvarez, chose to go with the practical effects for the film's visuals, mainly out of tribute to what Sam Ramey had achieved on a very limited budget back in 1980.
Good decisions.
Lance, let's start with you.
What did you think about the Evil Dead remake?
It was a little bit slow getting started.
You didn't have that sequence at the beginning.
And I guess, you know, once you figure out what's going on down in the basement,
which I'm not sure why they didn't all smell it when they walked in
because once you open that basement door there and you can kind of see what all is hanging in there,
it's like, how can you not notice that?
But it seemed to start out kind of slow.
And then there was a lot of character.
Well, I guess so.
there was definitely
asked Dane to Han
there was definitely a lot of
there were a lot of
there were a lot of
stuff under the surface here I think
and the way that script
was written because I mean
you know obviously if you're a drug addict
there is you know
it's almost like being a zombie
in a manner of speaking because you're
you know you're kind of enslaved by it
but you're also acting like a zombie
especially like when you're in withdrawals
or when you're having to switch over to Thorazine.
They call it the Thorazine shuffle for a reason.
You know, when diehard junkies have to do that to kind of taper down.
But I thought the one thing that really got my attention,
this viewing that I didn't really pay attention to in the first one,
is that Mia had actually been dead before technically, right?
Because she had had that, what was it, an accident?
And they had to bring her back to life.
Or no, she had an overdose, correct?
Yeah.
And she was actually clinically dead.
So it was just kind of a strange dichotomy that she was literally clinically dead.
So she's already kind of the dead.
And she's like the only person I know of in the mythology that they've actually been able to turn from a dead creature somehow back to a human by burying her or doing some kind of ritual.
I don't know.
I mean, the movie story wise, I thought those two points were interesting.
but it was a little bit all over the board for me.
It wasn't, I didn't think it was nearly as neat or tightly written as the Evil Dead or Evil Dead too.
Or even, you know, the first couple of seasons of Ash versus the Evil Dead for that matter.
I thought the writing in this one was, you know, a little bit less on the nose than that was.
The characters changed a little.
I mean, you kind of had the smart, the brainy one that kind of figured everything out, but he was sort of stupid.
He's over here reciting.
Well, I think he was made to look that way.
You know, kind of like the one in the, the, the, the, the, the, the Joker character that was in Cabinwoods or Shaggy or something like that, where they're like the one that you think is going to be the one to figure everything out, but they end up fucking everything up because he's resigning the words.
They had glasses.
The glasses.
He had glasses.
This guy looked like he was really into crack beers.
Oh yeah
Definitely had the craft beer thing rocking
Sound design was fucking amazing
With all the photography was good
But the sound design really blew me away
With all the creaking
boards and creaking wood
And you know
Different sounds of the dead
As they were attacking people
And screams and voices
And then you'd have like one of them
That would sing really sweetly
To kind of bring your
your guard down a little bit.
Like, oh, you think that's still the person.
The nail gun, Jesus Christ, man.
Yeah.
Definitely came up with some, came up with some really creative ways to use a nail gun in this movie,
which I thought was a lot of fun.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you guys think a lot of the effects?
I mean, I did notice some CGI blood of all the times, but for the most part, didn't you guys think it was
pretty much practical effects in this one.
Yeah, if there was any CGI,
it was just to enhance
little things, little practical effects.
Yeah, it wasn't anything that was not a single,
which is exactly what CGI should be.
Well, yeah, and you definitely had some callbacks
to the original because I noticed when somebody
went into the shed that they're,
they almost grabbed a chainsaw,
but then they passed over it and went for something else instead.
Yeah.
And then, of course, you had the peeping
eyes out of the, you know, out of the
basement that you had in the first Evil Dead movies.
So those callbacks were pretty cool.
We had the boomstick. There was a boom stick in there.
We had the boom stick.
Fucking great visuals on that.
Yeah, then you had more, I guess toward the end,
you had more payoff with a chainsaw, which was cool.
So not a bad movie.
Oh, was this the one?
was it the other one that had the scene with a knife or the paste cutter being in the tongue?
Yeah, I was to say that was about the most gruesome and uncomfortable scene that I've seen in a
movie in a long time. Yeah, when she told the girl, give me some tongue. Yeah. Yeah. Give me some
tongue. Yeah, there was, this, this was good, man. It was, I kind of, I kind of wish they,
I kind of wish they hadn't just called evil dead. I wish they, you know, maybe like called it evil
dead, you know, and then, you know,
kids in the woods or
new blood or, you know, something like that.
Evil dead kids in the
oldness.
It was, in no way
former fashion was it a remake, right?
I mean, it was definitely not the same
setup. You definitely didn't get
your ash. I have a theory
when we get to the next movie.
I'd like to hear
that, man, but that's about all I have
to say about this.
It was definitely enjoyable.
Not my favorite of the Evil Dead movies for sure, but it was a good one, man.
Some great, great gore, really good sound design, and the photography was good as well.
All right. Evil Dead Kids in the Woods. What'd you think, Brian?
That should be the next movie.
No. Children of the woods.
I love this movie ever since I've seen it in the theater. I thought it was gritty or
as realistic as you can get with the
practicals, just violent, gory.
I had no problem with the pacing of the movie.
They kind of let you know
the background of the characters
with Mia having her drug problems
and the brother not being there for her
and the mother passing away,
him still not being there.
The only character you didn't really care about
was his girlfriend because it just seemed like
they just got together and he brought her with.
and then you got introduced to the nurse character and the craft beer guy.
Right.
And Mr. Craft Beer.
And I felt like they did a good job to let you know that this was,
they used to be a tight-knit group and the brother had left and just never kind of
looked back and everybody kind of stayed close with each other.
And then when you got into the whole possession thing,
I just thought it was just, I felt like Fedé Averiz took, this is what I, this is
when a remake is done right to me,
you take the aspects of the original,
and then you put your own twist on it.
People kind of, at first,
I think it's getting loved now, but I think
at first it wasn't really big on it because
there was no ash, there was no comedic
elements, and
it wouldn't have been, it would have
just been the same thing as
before, and I felt like he just
kind of, he did his own thing, and
Lance, you brought it up,
there was a lot of callbacks. You know, we
kind of got a tree rape scene,
but not oh yeah that was maybe even more brutal
that was a huge limb or whatever it was
some thorns and shit on it it was gross
yeah no shit
one of my favorite scenes is
when they're they're kind of arguing about
what's wrong with her and then she kind of slowly
walks out and she does that
she has the boom stick
and she shoots it and the door flies open
and she's screaming but at the same time she's screaming
you hear a demonic voice and it's
the recording from the first
from the first movie
yeah they're just playing it over her scream
I thought that was great
I thought all the kills
were fantastic
just kind of sneak it in
fucking deadites are
they come up with the greatest
lines when she's looking at her brother
and says come down here I'll suck your cock
pretty boy you know
I'm like you're evil that's
that's your brother you can't say that to your brother
yeah and before that she
called the other girl a cunt.
The little
song she's singing, peeping out
the bottom of the thing was creepy.
And hats off to
Jane Levy. I've loved
almost everything I've seen her in.
And I heard she did
not have the greatest time making this
movie because Fede Alvarez kind of
basically
Kubricked her. If that makes sense.
Oh, no. Okay.
To get what he
needed out of her, he kind of made her
go through a lot of this
situation, not like killing people,
but just
you guys know what I mean.
Yeah. Yeah. And I've never heard the elements
of the people. I've never heard that before.
That's crazy, yeah. I think that's
why
I think after, I think
also when they worked on Don't Breathe,
he kind of did the same thing. And I think
that's why she didn't come back
for the sequel to Don't Breathe.
Well, I mean, if you're going to do
a movie about tension,
Like, I can kind of understand that.
It's like if you're not, if you're not having a level of anxiety we need for this scene with the situation that's supposed to be happening in this movie.
Yeah.
Let's make one.
Yeah.
I mean, as long as he's not hurting you and you're consenting to what he's doing, you know, it just kind of sounds like maybe he was just trying to get the best out of you for the movie.
and I think she was fantastic.
The scenes of her,
you couldn't tell if it was her just withdrawing
or just fucking scared out of her mind
when she's telling her this,
I think there's something in the room
and just that face
and just how she was acting
the whole part out was fantastic.
And the final showdown,
I loved it when that demon got raised
because technically they had the final sacrifice.
when they burned, they burn down the house.
Sure.
And, you know, we got the chainsaw, we got the severed hand.
And I really wish the, I don't know what version you guys got.
Did you guys get the one with the end credit scene or the guy picking her up in the truck when she's crawling down the street?
I don't remember that.
I just remember Bruce Campbell popped up at the very end going groovy.
Yeah, there was supposed to be, I think, I think it's the blue,
great version.
A guy is driving
down the road, he sees a girl
like crawling down the street and he gets out and he's
like, are you all right? And it's Mia, you know,
bleeding with her missing hand and he gives her a ride.
And the camera's on her face and she just opens her eyes and the music
just goes like, da-da, you know.
Oh, like she may still be possessed again?
Yeah. But
I guess the original version was...
That wasn't in my...
The original idea was it was supposed to be
Bruce Campbell. That was the guy driving
truck.
That would have been great.
And kind of just without saying it kind of knew the situation because he's seen her missing
her hand.
Okay.
I thought that would have been a great way.
Yes.
I think that would have been a great way to connect the movies instead of him popping up
randomly saying groovy, which is, you know, it's a Bruce Campbell, so you get what you get.
It is what you get.
Overall, I think this is one of the ones.
my top five horror
remakes because I felt like they
did it right. Yeah.
It's up there with Pet Cemetery.
His Pet Cemetery is on a
different list.
Okay.
A different list.
Yeah, man.
I completely agree with you.
I love what
they did in this movie.
They basically just updated.
Okay, so this was a better remake
of the original Evil Dead than Evil Dead.
than Evil Dead 2 was, I think.
What?
That sounds like a bold statement.
It's not.
Because Evil Dead 2 was kind of a remake, but it kind of wasn't.
He just sort of did his own...
It's kind of a different movie.
It was a different movie.
This was like a remake of the original with the same grit and the same heart.
Yeah.
But with the bigger budget.
and later on with a like more updated you know and uh i think that they did they they they did a lot of
uh sam ramy-esque things in this movie especially with the camera work and stuff like that
um i i i i liked that they didn't spend so much time setting it up i mean like you had to
i guess figure out who these people were and so you could at least half-ass
care for them and that's about as far as it got yeah how are how are they going to take care of her oh
she's a nurse okay let's that that's all we need to know she's a nurse we don't need a
whole background of her going to medical school and right yeah like i don't i don't need a bunch of
side scenes about their internal conflicts or relationships or whatever i just need somebody to like
turn undead and start yeah all we needed was hey hey me is i don't know i can't think of as
name as many times I've seen a movie, but hey,
Mia's brother, you're a dick, you left
everybody. Yeah, and that's where they
kind of left it. Yeah, right?
And you knew craft beer guy was going to open
the Necronomicon. He had
glasses and he was so
smart. Yeah,
so interested in
the incantations and stuff, right?
And the books even
says, don't read me. Don't read me.
Stupid beard
in his Jesus hair.
Fucking guy.
Did he have sandals?
Huh?
Not like he had sandals or something on.
Probably.
He probably did.
He looked like a guy that would wear sandals everywhere.
And a big stash of weed.
Hackusack in his other pocket.
Yeah.
This fucking guy.
But I loved, it was so fucking brutal.
This thing had some violence in it that I have not seen from another
modern movie.
Mm-hmm.
Like, it was, it was so fucking brutal and just very evil dead.
Mm-hmm.
You know, like, this movie is, it's gross.
Like, we're going to have some really nasty fucking kills in here.
There's going to be a ton of blood.
Right.
Love every second of it.
And I did.
They sold it to me and gave me the product that I bought.
And so I'm happy.
That doesn't happen all the time.
now, does it?
Yeah.
No, I mean,
they always try to hit you
with some kind of
side swindler deal,
right?
Like this is...
That's not what I was looking for
with this movie.
This one is exactly
what I was looking for
with this movie, man.
You had the fucking...
The scene where she cuts
her tongue in half?
Yeah, that was amazing.
There's blood every...
There's so many great kills.
There's the nail gun scene.
And even though I didn't
give a shit. Well, Whip's nail gun scene.
Pick your nail gun. I know.
That nail gun was used over and over in the movie.
But like, as much as,
I'm sorry, go ahead.
No, I was going to say, I didn't really care about that guy's
girlfriend, but.
She had a good, she had a great
scene with the turkey
carver nice thing.
Even though I don't think it works that way.
Yeah, when she was like
cutting her hand, I was like,
this is fucking amazing.
And then you got, you got demonic me,
just like, don't, don't cut your arm off, you dumbass.
Yeah.
You know, just basically daring her to do it.
It's like, I'm gonna, I'm gonna do it.
It's just so many scenes where it was just iconic artwork almost, you know?
Like, they zoom out and they show the scene of like the eyes picturing through the fucking trapdoor.
And, you know, the arm dangling and they have the chainsaw.
Like, there were so many scenes where it was just an ode to Sam Ramey and Evil Dead in general,
and I thought they did a really great job of it.
This is, this, this is my favorite Fetty Alvarez movie.
And his name's not craft beer guy.
It's Eric.
Eric.
Of course it is.
And the brother that we can't think of his name is David.
Sure.
Fucking Eric.
Eric and David, those hard names we couldn't remember.
remember.
Yeah.
And I cannot remember the other two
same decision.
Olivia.
Who needs to, right?
Now,
Olympia.
Olympia.
That was a great case.
Like the beer?
Olivia. Olivia.
Yeah.
Olivia.
That, Lance,
you brought up the sound design.
The sound of Olivia
cutting her face.
Oh.
Before you even seen it,
like you can just hear
flesh cutting.
Well, in that scene,
she did.
So she had some great special effects scenes
Because that scene were like after she had gotten
Like beat in the head with the
With the toilet thing
Yeah the lid
Yeah and she was like laying on the floor
Like dude
That was a dead looking body
Yeah even the buildup to her scene
Like when she gets possessed and she just freezes
And she can't move and then she pisses herself
Because she's just going through convulsions
and then that was that was a really good scene in general yeah i mean i do i do have a couple of hang-ups
and that was the like you brought it up lance to the to burying her to bring her back
right yeah that was i kind of i kind of i can go with it but she came back looking regular
yeah i mean earlier you know she just put herself in boiling hot water
water in the shower.
Also true.
Well, it's kind of an analogy to coming out of drug drug, drug, uh,
um, withdrawal though, you know?
I don't think you can't.
Well, which is probably why it didn't work because they were trying to make something
that it, that it was.
Yeah.
Fair enough.
And they're very trusting because when she's dumping out the heroin in the,
in the, in the well, they're very trusting that she didn't have any more heroin on her.
so I'm not even sure they even
she even brought heroin with her
was it there's got to be something
or cocaine though
I thought it looked a little
dark to me to be
I guess
not that I'm saying I know my drugs
but
know your right
it's like man that seems like a lot of money
you're just throwing down the fucking well over
your don't yeah that's shit down the whale
it was a good couple hundred dollars
somebody is getting high
down at the bottom of that whale
probably the leprechaun is down there
that's how he came back in the sequel
the witch
from fucking army of darkness
oh yeah oh yeah
all right
scores
Lance what do you think
it's a good movie man
it's a solid seven
I enjoyed it quite a bit
and like I said
a couple of
not my favorite evil dead
story, a couple of things
like her coming back, normal
like you guys said, without any scars or anything.
You know, a little bit to swallow,
but it was a good movie, man.
Great special effects, great sound design.
It was enjoyable.
Yeah, she shouldn't have been able to even talk.
She's like, David, why is my tongue cut?
You know, just...
I hadn't even thought about that.
now that you got really high and thought you were a lizard what are we right i guess well i'll get
into my score i i guess i can't really knock it for that because we're dealing with
supernatural elements and i true but that that was a knock i had on it but other than that
that this is an easy 8.5 for me this i i love them i love jane levy as meia i thought she didn't
phenomenal. Fetéi
Albrez did a phenomenal job
directing. The practicals were amazing.
I know we
kind of talked bad
about the cast, but
that was just little nitpicks.
They were there to do what they needed to do.
They were going to get killed.
They were supporting cast.
They did what they needed to do. Yeah, this was me as
journey. Make no mistake, right?
And I loved all the callbacks
to the original one. I agree with you
is not my favorite
just because I'm a little biased
to Ash.
Yeah, me too. This is up there
for me, so 8.5.
Damn, very high score.
I feel like an 8.5
is a pretty reasonable score
here. I'm going to go
you know what? I'll give it
an 8.5 too. I was going to go 8,
but I think it adds that that extra
0.5 because
it is one of the very, very
few remakes of an iconic
movie where as soon as it came out it was like wow that totally lived up to the hype and you
don't see that very often you're very very visceral yeah like all these movies like you could feel
violence and especially without having bruce campbell in the movie because bruce campbell is
dead at this point because just saying greedy he doesn't count right and brofile i don't even think
if bruce campbell was in this movie i don't even think to
tone would even be the same.
Right.
You don't think so?
I like what they did with the tone of the movie.
Yeah, not saying anything bad about Bruce Campbell.
He's great at what he does, but I think for this tone of movie,
maybe he couldn't pull the off.
Yeah, maybe he could have pulled it off and we would have been surprised,
but I would guarantee there would be a whole lot of people that would have been like,
this is not the ash we wanted, you know, so.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Maybe it was a good thing that wasn't in it.
I agree.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yeah, I think you're exactly right.
It would be like when Jim Carrey tried his first, like, serious acting role.
That was terrible, the number nine or whatever it was called.
It was the number 23, Lance.
Oh, God, that was fucking horrible.
I really want to go back and rewatch that.
I haven't seen it.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
I don't remember hating it.
I just kind of remember just being...
Yeah.
I'll just go, I'll just go rewatch old In Living Color.
I did.
I did. I did rewatch cable guy.
Oh, Billy.
That's a great movie, man.
He ducks and breaks the backboard, jumping off Jack Black and told him, I've never dug before, but thanks for the boost.
I love that movie.
And Ben Stiller's in it basically playing a Menendez brother.
Right.
Oh, yeah.
My brother got killed.
by an Asian gang.
I think it was an Asian gang
because they were Asian.
Ben Stiller, man.
But yeah, so
8.5 for me as well.
I think this would be a strong start tonight.
Yeah.
All right, let's move on to
Evil Dead Rise, our brand new one.
What's up?
I had the most beautiful dream.
We were together sitting in a tall forest.
The wind was clean and the birds were seeing as Swedish melodies.
It was the perfect day and all I could think about was how much I wanted to cut you all open and climb inside your body so that we could stay one happy family.
A twisted tale of two estranged sisters
whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh possessing demons
thrusting them into a primal battle for survival
What a description
As they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable
Director is Lee Cronin
Also the writer
Also known for The Hole in the Ground
which I have actually never seen.
That's a great movie.
That's a good one.
He's an Irish director then.
Yeah.
I've heard you both say it was awesome and I haven't seen it yet.
Director Lee Cronin stated in an interview that 6,500 liters or 1,700 gallons of fake blood were used for this movie.
Jesus Christ.
That's a lot of blood.
Remember that movie we reviewed called Reefat?
Revenge?
Yeah.
The rape revenge movie,
there was a lot of blood in that one.
Yeah.
Not as much as this one.
Writer and producer Sam Ramey's previous movie
had been Dr. Strange and the multiverse of madness.
And while there was no plot connection,
both movies share the motives of a possessed mother terrorizing her own children
and a book with a corrupting influence.
I guess that's true when you think.
I think it that way.
Yes, that seems like a stretch, but okay.
That's a stretch.
Where did that come from, IMDB?
Yeah, these usually come from IMDB, man.
Do you know of a better source for trivia?
Every once in a while, I'll pull it from somewhere else.
No, it's not your fault.
I was going to say, IMDB, you can do better.
Well, it was like somebody thought of that question,
and they asked him, and he was probably like,
no, I don't know, I hadn't really thought about it.
There is a mother and kids
in a book in my movie, so yeah.
Yeah.
Same thing.
All right, Lance, what did you think about the new evil dead rise?
I'm going to hold back because I don't want to give a whole lot of way
until we get into the spoiler section because there's, I mean, yeah, they do give,
they give like almost a whole scene away in the trailer, and then in the second one they show
you even more.
And then, you know, they kind of hint at what they call the infamous cheese grater scene,
which turns out to actually be one of the milder.
No shit, man.
I get that in my fucking finger.
It looks pretty not.
But bad at this point.
It's a real thing.
Shout out to Lee Cronin, though, because he's been signing cheese graters for fans that bring it to him.
That's awesome.
I'm telling you, man, I slice the whole chunk of my finger off.
And it's like two weeks ago.
And it's like almost better.
I mean, it's not formed.
Oh, man.
You got to be, you got to be really careful with that thing they called the mandoline or whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Where you like take a potato and cut it into potato chips or deli sliceer.
I've seen some really bad deli.
I've worked grocery when I was in high school and college.
I've seen a couple of really bad deli slicer accidents.
So be careful, kids.
Same concept.
Yeah.
Yeah, okay, so this one also had a lot of throwbacks.
Obviously, you got the chains.
So I liked Henrietta's pizza.
That was kind of cool.
Yeah, I mean, there's Easter eggs all over this thing.
I'm sure you guys will go into more detail.
But I'll tell you this, Brian, this is one of the first films that I've actually been to in the theater in many years.
Once I left the theater, I actually felt a little bit disoriented mentally and almost physically,
ill. I really felt
nauseous, man, after watching this movie.
And it
takes a lot to do that to me.
I think the only thing I could compare it to
is when I went to see natural
born killers in the theater.
Woody Harrelson did such a
spectacular job
as a serial killer,
murderer, that, like, he got into my head.
His acting in that movie got into my head.
And when I was leaving...
Rodney Dangerfield did get into your head?
Um, a little...
a little bit.
I remember feeling
like really off
after I watched that movie.
And after I watched this one,
I felt incredibly sick.
But I definitely understand
what,
what Philip was talking about
and the trivia
about using all the blood.
Because you get that one particular elevator scene.
And at first I thought
that was a little bit hokey.
But then I realized,
like you guys were talking
about the prior movie,
you've got to, you know,
you've got to,
you know,
give a little bit because of the supernatural element.
It's like these things maybe are happening, maybe aren't,
but if they are happening, they're, you know,
coming from hell or from a different dimension than where we're at.
Then we're at.
So I could kind of forgive a little bit of that,
although at first it was kind of off-putting.
So as far as the setup where you first show the sister and she's on the toilet,
I'll just give away like the first five or ten minutes and nothing beyond that,
because there were a lot of things that I found surprising.
But she got the sister, and she's already kind of like not quite sure if she's living her life the way she wants to.
And then she comes up pregnant on a pregnancy test, which, you know, I thought, well, this is a strange way to start the movie.
And then the entire film is basically sending it around a mother that's, you know, she's obviously doing the best she can with what she's got.
They're living in a fucking rat trap in a high-rise apartment.
It's literally about to be condemned.
They don't know where they're going next.
You got a mom that, you know, the husband, I couldn't tell, was he a deadbeat?
Or did he leave her for someone else?
Or what was the story there?
There was a reference of he didn't want to pay alimony no more or child support.
Yeah.
So basically, probably both, probably a dead beat.
He probably was, you know, fucking around on her.
But, you know, see, you have this single mom that stuck with raising these three kids.
And then you got the sister that just found out.
she's about to be a mom.
So there's definitely a lot of symbolism in this movie about family and about, you know, motherhood.
And it was very interesting the way that they did that.
I thought it was kind of odd.
The kids were all, now is this just a sign of the times?
Or did like the oldest child seem almost kind of like like she might have gone by a them pronoun?
it seemed like she, you know, she kind of had that, what do they call it, non-binary look to her?
Or she seemed like she had that attitude.
Am I reading too much into that or did you guys see that too?
The oldest daughter, the one with the really short hair.
And then you have to get the other kid who's kind of the DJ.
Okay.
And then the little bitty girl.
Yeah, he's trans.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay, so, but I kind of thought that the other ones seemed that way.
And then, of course, now you've got the little girl that is like putting dolls' heads on the end of sticks.
Stephanie.
That was a pretty, I got a good reaction to my theater.
Well, one thing's for sure.
This mom, she definitely had her hands full, right?
She's doing the best she could.
Sure, she did.
They're about to literally get kicked out of the place.
It's condemned.
was it a little bit, you know, were some of the things a little bit of a stretch to believe, like, you know, then again, again, Brian, like you said in the last movie, you've got to take a lot of this with a grain of salt because you're dealing with a supernatural. So was that really just an earthquake? See, that's the question. I don't think it was. So a lot of things seem to happen that were a little bit too coincidental, but maybe because of supernatural forces they weren't.
coincidental. I do not want to say too much. I'm afraid if I keep talking, I'm going to give away some spoilers.
Just speak on that. I took it as that was an earthquake, but it was an earthquake only in their building.
Right. Which is even more weird. And it's because the, well, a supernatural.
Anyway, next. I don't want to say, yeah, I don't want to say anything until we're getting spoilers. I was just so delighted with some of the stuff that I saw.
And Philip, like I was telling Brian, I literally, I had a visceral reaction, dude.
I felt literally physically nauseous and sick on my drive home after watching this movie.
And that's something that has not happened to me after watching a film in a very long time.
Now, because of the violence or because of the situation?
I think a lot of it was the family stuff, you know, and it was just really hits close to home.
Because I think the other Evil Dead remake that we just reviewed was probably more gruesome than this one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I would put this in between the 2013 one and the original trilogy.
Yeah.
As far as violence.
Body count.
Was it very practical?
This would also look very practical.
Yeah, as far as the special
Yeah, I think they did the same thing
that practical and just enhance
certain things with CGR.
Yeah, that bathtub
scene was something
when she jumped up out of the
well, it was in the trailer, but
who's going next?
I'm afraid I'm going to let something slip that I don't want to let
slip if someone hasn't seen the movie yet.
Okay.
what we just talked about
at the violence level I kind of I didn't have that reaction Lance
I kind of felt like this was slightly a bit tamer than the
2013 one but the violence and the gore was great
in this movie the practical effects and the kills were good
right we talked about in the 2013 one
that kind of had a drug addiction type of
parallel to the storyline I think this one was family
because you already brought up the aspect of the sister being pregnant
and then the other sister dealing with basically being a single mother
raising three kids.
And I'm about getting kicked out to where they live.
I feel like the consistent theme in this one was shitty parents,
probably theirs too.
Yeah, I mean, I don't even know if the mom had a job.
Or she was a tattoo artist, or she just fixed his tattoo guns?
I think she was a tattoo artist, man.
I'm pretty sure.
Because she had all the gear and all the ink and everything.
Yeah, I don't know.
It just kind of, I know we're kind of been dancing around spoilers,
but just another part before we get this kind of spoiler-ish.
They both seem like they're technically capable of fucking with technology and stuff
because you see them working with the soldering of both of them at certain points of the movie.
Right.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
But as far as, not to give any spoilers away.
Yeah.
But as far as the movie, again, I love the callbacks.
There was quite a few callbacks to the original series in this one.
There's a line dropped in here that kind of maybe confirms the theory I've been having about all these movies.
So we'll get to that in spoilers.
Easter egg.
Easter eggs abound, right?
Yeah.
I thought everybody was great in it except.
Okay, not except.
I had to explain it.
The sister that played Beth,
not the one with the kids, but the other one.
Oh.
There was at, not that I didn't like her,
but I felt like she could have gave a little bit to the role
because there was times when she was doing badass things,
but not being badass.
Okay.
Like, she pulled it off at the end, but, like, leading up to it, she was just kind of there.
I mean, I don't know.
Did we need Fedé Avarez to come in here and start making this environment feel like shit to get you to kind of feel the role?
Uh-huh.
So I don't know.
Was it just me?
Was it just me, or did these two women actually kind of look like sisters a little bit?
They kind of favored.
They kind of a little bit.
there was a time there where I was like, is this supposed to be the girl from the first one?
Yeah, I was the sister.
Really?
The beginning of the movie.
Yeah.
But another big thing I loved about the movie is location change.
Yeah.
Because I was kind of like when the movie started, I was like, oh, really?
But I thought we were supposed to end up ten minutes later.
I'm like, okay, here we go.
This is where I wanted the movie to be.
because that kind of
with Scream this year too
yeah and I enjoyed it
I love the change of location
but this one I enjoyed
a little bit more on the screen
because it kind of
adds to the terrifying
aspect of it
because you're in a high rise
of a building
that looks like it should be knocked down
when you're on the
80th floor or something
to get it down
so this is not
and the situations
that were happening
it wasn't
just easy as we'll just go through the fire escape or take the stairs or take the elevator
you're kind of situated on this one floor and I like that aspect and I thought
Alyssa Sutherland who played the sister with the three kids when she turns into a deadite
I thought she was fucking fantastic because again deadites have the best lines she told her
he called her kids a bunch of titty sucking freeloaders oh yeah
Well,
and I still,
even though
it was in the
real bit of
reality coming out.
Even though it was
in the trailer,
that whole
Mommy's with
the maggots now
line,
to me,
that's just
when I think
of this movie,
I think of that line.
Yeah.
Sure.
Sure.
And my,
my theater too,
when she called
her thing,
Stephanie.
Yeah.
And it's going to
protect us.
My theater was like,
yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Everybody laughed,
man.
And I looked,
I took my,
my my youngest daughter this was her first true R-rated
gorely wow was that a good idea Brian
she she loved it there was a couple of
scooting down her seat
tranced a little bit on but when we
we came she she sat there and watched the whole thing
it was into it and she she even laughed at the whole
Stephanie thing and I looked at her I was like
Stephanie will be back in the movie
Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. And it was. Boy, was it. But overall, I wasn't disappointed with it. There was just a few little aspects that I was kind of like, eh. I think it was more so I wanted the Beth character to act more badass and kind of just show me you're in the moment. I don't know if it was a decision by her or what. I don't know if I've seen her in anything before. So I can't say that's just how she acts.
She looks familiar, but like she may just kind of look like people.
Yeah, I'm looking at some stuff she's been in.
I haven't seen anything.
And her and both actresses that played the sisters are both Australian.
And I think the two older kids are maybe Australian.
I know one of them is.
Okay.
But overall, I thought it was a fun film.
I had a good time with it.
It delivered in some parts where I wanted it to,
and there was just a couple moments
where I just kind of just wanted just a little bit more oomph
into it.
But I definitely seen where all the gallons of blood went to.
It was definitely a boring, bloody film.
And I kind of looked at my daughter,
and I was like, don't get attached to most of this family
because they're not going to make it through this.
Oh, yeah.
Or the neighbors, for that matter.
I love that there were neighbors.
I know.
I love the audience.
Mm-hmm.
So overall, I had a great time with it.
Yeah.
Yeah, the neighbors were fantastic.
I don't even think about that until I started talking about it.
I thought the one guy was Russell Crow for a minute, the one that kept smoking cigarettes.
Yeah.
He looked like that.
I don't know. He just reminded me of him for some reason.
Looking for his cat in the ceiling.
But no, I thought the neighbors were great. I liked that there were a couple of kids.
And they sort of, I mean, you know, they didn't have a whole lot of screen time, but they gave you just enough to give a shit before that.
We'll get to that.
And they didn't hold back.
Yeah, it's an Evil Dead movie, guys. Guess what? Everybody.
he's dead.
Right.
I love the, yeah, the sister with the kids,
once she became a deadite was pretty fantastic.
She may be the quintessential deadite from now on.
You know what I mean?
Like she's going to be the one that you think of.
Yeah, even in like her dialogue,
she was taking like the sweetest motherly things and making them sound all evil.
and yeah yes
like no I'm not going to give you a big kiss
to make it all better
get away from me
like she was super creepy
and you know what
one that we did talk about
the opening scene
which really had no fucking connection
to the movie whatsoever
until the I mean
they made it connect
but it had there was no
yeah that was that wasn't
that was kind of weird wasn't
I was expecting to see
We'll talk about something I read, so in spoilers.
Okay.
So it wasn't a cabin in the woods.
It was an A-frame in the woods, kind of mid-Somar style.
Or something that they had extra that they cut out or whatever it was.
But whatever it was, it was fucking fantastic.
I loved it.
Yeah, it's got a neat, man.
It was, it was quick, concise point.
And then when they brought up the title screen, I was like, okay.
I love that.
This is evil.
She was floating above the lake.
A lot of vomit in this movie, too.
I don't think my daughter's seen the red band trailer, so the scalping scene was new to her.
Yeah.
It was, I just, I loved the opening, and then from there it kept going.
I think they did a really, really good job.
Like, I was more impressed than I expected to be, for sure.
Yeah, same here.
I wasn't expecting that much.
Yeah.
So had a real good time with this movie.
I do, now that I think back on it,
wish that the Ash sister would have...
Because she was pretty badass by the end of the movie.
Yeah.
But like at the beginning of the movie,
she was sort of background.
And covered with blood.
Yeah.
We're getting way spoilery.
That's what I'm saying.
By the time...
the time we got to that, she was,
she was pretty awesome. And I was like,
okay, yeah, this is, this girl's
badass. But like at the beginning
of the movie, she was just kind of background noise
like she didn't. And I don't know if that
was in time. Grow into her on, man. But like,
she definitely faded away
until the very
end when she just suddenly was a badass.
Mm-hmm.
But yeah, good movie.
I was impressed.
All right. Scores.
Lance.
I'll get this one at a
man just because the reaction it gave me
after having seen it
give it an 8
right
I didn't like it as much as I did the
2013
version
I get to a lot of that stuff
and spoilers but overall I had a good
time and this is a solid
8 definitely
nice
I like where the evil dead franchise
has been going
yeah
Basically.
Yeah, they know what they are.
Yeah.
At the moment, I'm going to go a little lower and give it a seven and a half.
Okay.
But I think eight is a fair score.
It was, again, it was better than I thought it was going to be.
I don't think it was as good as the original remake, the 2013.
You guys know what I'm talking about.
Yeah.
You guys are higher on that one, and I'm a little higher on this one.
Yeah.
And maybe they tried to do a little more with it and put a little more heart and soul into this one than they have in the rest of the Evil Dead franchise,
which sort of worked in a way.
It also was on the verge of not being an Evil Dead movie.
Fair enough.
Yeah.
I mean, I like you, man.
The more they try to put that extra effort metaphor,
vamp dynamic heart and soul shit.
Totally guess.
Comes evil dead.
Yeah, but I think at the same time, they kind of had to,
because we're dealing with the family.
We're not dealing with a group of friends going to a cabin.
Well, of course.
Right.
So.
Well, which actually makes it more tense, I think.
And it does mean more when, uh,
you know, somebody gets offed.
They're like, oh, yeah, a girl from college who gives a shit.
Yeah, the stakes are higher.
It's your sister.
That's a different story, you know.
Yeah.
So we're ready to spoil?
Yeah, let's do it.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
I got to jump right into it
Okay
I was going to jump into the glass eating
That's what really got me
But go ahead
Go first
Well
I just
I wanted that to be more effective than it was
To me it was super effective
Dude
I think that's the part
I think what she said
Was more terrifying than what I was being seen
The whole
Do you like things in your tummy
Auntie?
You know
Yeah, because the Deadites know exactly.
They can, like, read the lines.
Oh, because you had that great scene with the sister, like, telling her I'll suck your soul out.
But then all of a sudden she smells, and she's like, and then she looks at her and she's like, two souls?
Yes.
So what were you going to, what were you going to say, Brian?
I think this is all the same universe.
It's got to be, right?
The original trilogy, the 2013, and this one.
because I read some trivia
or some stuff with the director.
First of all, the drop line in the movie was
when they're listened to the recordings,
they're talking about there are three necronomacons.
Oh.
We have seen three.
Does that have been referred to before?
No.
I don't think so.
Oh, wow.
Okay, so they're really expanding the universe.
And where was that one from?
with the line
yeah
when they were playing the record
of the recording of the priest
oh okay
he said he was studying
he was what he was studying
he came to find that there are three
versions of the Necronomicon
okay
and we had the Ash one
we had the Mia one
and now this one
but the Ash and the Mia
the one were the same one
were they not
or was it
that's what I was thinking
or what was it
It could be.
Oh, was it?
That's interesting.
And there was this thing when the director said,
Bruce Campbell's in, Ash is in this movie.
In the recording where you hears the priest is like reading the stuff,
and then you hear someone yell.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You hear someone yell, it's called the Book of the Dead for a reason.
Stop.
That was him?
That's what they're saying.
That was a time displaced ash.
A time displaced ash.
Okay.
All right.
I like that.
That makes perfect sense.
And the whole scene that we got in the beginning and we got the ending of the cabin scene in the beginning and the beginning of it at the end.
I believe that's going to lead into the next movie.
I hope so.
I hope so.
So, yeah, I just.
And because the Ash and the Mia one were both in the same cap.
cabin, right?
They look very much alike.
I mean, you're not going to have two cabins that look exactly the same that are different cabins that just happen to be in different places.
You know what I mean?
So I thought that was the same.
That was, maybe they'll come out with another one with a different book of the day.
Because this one had the teeth as the spine.
I love that, too.
Yeah, the teeth were awesome.
Yeah.
I love when he cut himself and drip blood on it, just absorbed the blood.
and it just opened up.
Yes, absolutely.
Yeah.
Kind of like craft beer guy.
Yeah, I was like,
older brother, you're the new craft beer guy.
I know, right?
Except instead of somebody writing down and don't read this book,
your sister's telling you put it back.
Right.
But you want to be craft beer guy 2.0.
Yeah, there are a lot of similarities, I guess,
between the first two,
the 2013 one in this one.
So I could kind of see that that might be the three books.
That would be kind of cool that tied them all together.
And then...
Well, maybe there's still another book out there is what I would say.
So was Ash's car in the parking garage in this one?
I think it was.
Right?
It's a Buick, right, from the original?
Yeah, I'm not sure.
I kind of wasn't looking for it.
I was...
Okay.
I think I was at that point.
movie I was into it.
So I wasn't trying to look for like Easter
eggs or anything. I did notice the pizza
box. Yeah. What did you
guys think about the tree
granger? That was
a lot better than the end of
Halloween kills, right?
Yeah, and I think Al
I think you put something on the
Facebook group that was kind of a spoiler
to that.
He said something about why
is there a
tree chipper or
whatever, in an LA garage.
And I was just like,
what the fuck are you talking about?
And I had read that before.
I thought about
that when they first turned it on.
I was like, why is it there?
And it's working.
Yeah.
I took it as they were doing maintenance
outside the building,
and that's where they parked it.
Yeah, I could see that.
But I had read that before I had seen the movie.
So I was like,
the fuck is he talking about?
And then when they showed it, I was just like, wow.
So that's, okay.
Well, I mean, at the beginning, I didn't know what it was.
Right.
Like, it didn't click that that's what that was until the end when they started using it.
Well, it did for me because of Alice Post.
Yeah.
They are, they are condemning the buildings.
So they're going to have old wood and shit that they have to throw in there, right?
And Chip, I don't know.
Yeah, you just not have shit.
Yeah.
for the shit up
yeah probably
be more efficient
all the stuff with
Ellie the sister with three kids
everything she did as a dead eye
was fantastic even when she wasn't
really doing anything
the scene of when the neighbor
closed her eyes when she was dead and then you looked up
and her eyes were open
yeah
that's when I would have been like we're not doing prayer
Not doing none of that.
Nope.
I'm getting my brother.
I'm getting my brothers and we're leaving.
I like how the other sister was like, well, she's not religious.
Yeah.
I'm like,
bitch,
are you not seeing what's happening here?
I like how she said she wasn't,
she's not religious.
I mean,
not anymore.
Yeah.
Right.
That's right.
Um,
what else?
Call the fucking,
the Vatican,
the Hindu place.
everybody.
Let's get everybody in here.
The pray for as possible.
I thought the finale was
great, Brian, where you had all that
fucking blood from the chipper
and it was just covering our
new ash, I guess, and also the
little girl. I love that
even when she was down to her head,
she was still talking shit.
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
That's right. It like takes a lot to kill
me. I'm like Dracula and Greenfield.
That's where I had a problem.
She's being badass with the wood chipper.
She's being badass with the chainsaw.
So you're not giving me badass.
You're not saying a badass line or anything.
Yeah.
Like she looks fucking when she was covered in blood and her little skirt with their thick-ass eyes and shoving this bitch in the wood chipper.
She works out.
For real.
Like she looked awesome.
I was like, oh.
And me saying she didn't come off bad.
I enjoyed her character.
It's just I wanted more from that character.
Yes.
Yeah.
Fair enough.
Because that sort of came out of nowhere because she hadn't been a badass for the whole rest of the movie.
I mean, they kind of tried to work up to it with the sister, finding out the sister calls her a groupie when she's not around.
Right.
I get it.
Yeah.
But I see where you say it feels.
That's a stupid fucking, I'm not a groupie.
Okay, whatever.
She went from zero to a hundred.
More like a roadie, right?
Yeah.
Not a roby, lad.
She's a guitar technician.
Ah, okay, there's a difference.
Like, by definition.
There was something I was going to bring out.
Oh, one of the callbacks that I liked is when all the murdered,
the brother and sister and the mom when they're deadites,
and then you got the neighbors who get murdered, which I,
appreciate a movie, not afraid to kill the kids
because they killed all the guys' little brothers.
Everybody's deadites
and they do a callback
to Evil Dead 2 when
they're all screaming dead by dawn, dead by dawn.
Yes, I love that part.
Yeah, that was the
biggest callback I noticed.
Well, that was what I was saying with the
other dude who liked the
girl who was
very protesty or whatever.
Right.
And
like, you know,
know, he only had a couple of minutes of screen time, but he used it enough to make us care about that guy.
Yeah, we want to come over and watch the whole Nightmare on Elth Street franchise?
And then the little brother's like, even the bad ones.
And he was like, there's no bad ones.
Yeah.
Oh, we know there's so bad ones.
Yeah, we know that.
That's why I appreciated that line.
I love that line.
I loved that entire scene.
That was good.
That was somebody who knows horror.
And then he had the.
The hot cheetahs shit all over his mountain.
Now that Phil's bringing up that scene, I don't think maybe she...
You're her pronouns or whatever you...
I don't know pronouns that well.
Yes, right.
Because she seemed a little bit interested in that boy,
so I don't know if that's what they're going with character.
I don't know.
Because she did check to see...
I just get that vine.
I just get that fine.
She did...
I'm just saying she did seem to look through the people to see if he was still there.
Oh, no.
She 100% was interested in him,
which is what made it awesome.
Like when, like, because I actually cared about that guy when he died.
Yeah.
And I, and I also, I liked that they had her as the very ideological college kid who is, you know,
oh, we have to save the earth or I'm going to fucking strangle you right now.
Oh, you're saying they, they led you to believe that this was going to be the.
The hero?
Well, no, I'm just saying that.
I liked that they had this other girl in here.
Yeah.
Okay.
That was, that seemed a very ideological driven and, and she was the protesting one.
Okay.
And then they just put a trans character who was just there.
Like, yeah.
He wasn't doing anything.
I hadn't thought about that.
It was like a trans character and they didn't even fucking mention it.
Fair enough.
I didn't.
I'm realizing it too.
Was he trans in the movie, though?
I thought she was.
Or was he just a trans actor playing?
Well, that's what I'm saying.
He's a trans actor playing a brother role.
Okay, so you're saying they didn't make the trans actor play the stereotypical role.
Right.
Okay, I got you.
Yeah.
Like, he was into his music.
He was doing his thing.
He was the big brother or whatever.
I kind of wanted some more his little mixing and stuff.
I was like, yeah, man.
I'm kind of nod at my head.
But that's what I'm saying.
You know what?
You put a trans character
in a movie like that
that's not all activisty
and screaming down people's throats.
Cool.
I mean, if they could have lived,
I mean, the auntie could have gotten
super badass.
You could have had Stephanie.
You could have the brother
mixing some DJ stuff.
We could have a badass finale at the end.
Maybe we'll get a prequel.
Maybe we'll get a prequel.
Well, I kind of want a prequel.
because I want to know about who put this book in this old bank safe.
Oh, they could go with so many different directions.
Would that be like a Vatican thing?
It's got to be, right?
Yes, probably so.
But they said it was a bank.
So was it Nazi memorabilia that they...
A Vatican owned bank.
Oh, that makes even more sense.
We could talk all night.
Guys, we got to wrap it up pretty soon, man.
Okay, yeah, let's finish because, you know what?
There's way too much to talk about in the evening.
I'm going to bring this up to an 8.5.
Nice.
Just now talking about it.
I think I had a little bit more fun and got a little bit more out of it than I originally said.
So you gave both of them 8.5, Brian?
Yeah, but they're there for two.
You're an evil dead van.
I guess I am.
Hey, we met the man himself, so.
Well, this, this.
could be, I don't know, man, this could
be, Evil Dead might be one of the best
one of the best franchises
ever in horror, honestly.
I mean, really. And like, what
you said about three books, they keep
building on the canon and tying everything
together. The mythology
is like, no, there's not a bad.
Nobody complains about the movie. Nobody
complains about the show.
I bought it, but I haven't
played it. Everybody seems to like the
video game, so this could be,
you might be right. This might be the best.
This might be a new question, Facebook group question from one day.
I think we got our new, I think we got our new pool.
Yeah, because, I mean, we're talking about Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th or whatever.
Like, you talk about the shitty ones.
The shitty ones.
You know what the shitty ones are.
There's no shitty ones.
Yeah.
Yeah, when you...
When you talk about evil dead, you just talk about if you're...
Even to say you're talking bad about one is not really talking bad about one.
It's just the one you just like the least.
Yeah.
I would agree.
All right.
Well, look, let's close it out so we don't go in forever.
But I think we need to have some more Evil Dad episodes.
Anything we haven't covered before, it deserves some talk.
Do you agree, Brian?
Yeah, I don't think we – did we do Army of Darkness?
I'm going to get the spreadsheet together, but I don't think we did.
So we can hit that soon.
I think we do.
I know we did the first two.
Maybe we'll do a commentary.
Maybe a patron will ask us to do a commentary.
