victims. For those of you who delight and dread, who fantasize about fear, who glorify
gore, welcome. You have found the place where the horror returns. Listeners beware. This podcast
contains major plot spoilers.
and the foulest of language.
Join us in celebrating the old and the new,
the best, and the worst in horror.
And we in the house.
We have got Brian and Philip.
What's up, guys?
What's up?
Oh, not a much, man.
Oh, my God, it's been way too fucking long since Nez has joined us.
What's going on with you and Nez on the other.
shows, Brian. Y'all had a rest of money in the bank a couple of weeks ago, right?
Yeah, we'll be doing SummerSlam next week.
Stream Feen should probably will be dropping before you hear this.
Be the one and only time you'll hear Stream Feans do two movies because that went three hours.
And you could probably hear it near the end.
I was kind of struggling because we recorded way later than we usually do.
Double feature.
Double feature.
Yeah.
It was Nez's pick.
He wanted to watch the original
Insidias before he watched the new one.
And I said,
I said, well, you need to watch the second one
because the newest one is kind of
one two than the new one.
All right.
That's enough licking your crotch.
Sorry.
People listening to audio.
He's talking to his dog.
Yeah.
Yeah, the dog.
Man, that the old Microsoft Surface Pro
guys that I've been working with since day one is
bidding funded you.
It overheats after like an hour and the screen gets all fucked up.
So I'm on the home PC for now.
That's what to do.
So you have to buy another one.
Of course.
Philip, you've said that several times.
Planned obsolescence.
It's a thing.
All right.
So we got Insidious 1 and 2.
And then basically that's kind of like what the Halloween stuff did, Brian, where it goes off.
You can kind of ignore all the other ones.
Well, I'm confused.
What's the insidious graph?
One, well, if you're going to watch it in chronological order, you would watch four, three, one, two, and then five.
All right, gotcha.
Because three and four are prequels, but as if you ever heard our review on the last.
key you don't need to watch that one at all yeah yeah doesn't mean anything to the whole rest
of the franchise anyway three three's okay for what it is but it the main story with the patrick
wilson's family you just need to watch the first two and the newest one and uh action will be back
we're going to start uh our the first installment of the expendables uh
franchise so that ought to be a lot of fun but we're not going to do them back to back to back
because like i said i learned my lesson from when we did the pandemic and we were doing
retrospectives and we're doing back to back movies and that may have changed my review a little
bit because i was just tired of watching the same franchise over yeah yeah kind of the reason
Sorry, man.
It's kind of the reason we're doing tails from the Crip
because we're trying to pace out Hannibal a little bit.
So those will be paced out.
And then over the Skate-N-S Podcast Network,
he's been dropping his new series he has over there
where he's doing summer flicks.
I think he has two episodes out right now.
Great idea.
Everybody loves summer movies.
And for you Patreon listeners,
is we have recorded a very special episode for Patreon.
But if you want to wait, it's going to be a month or two before the rest of the world hears it.
So if you want to listen to it earlier, you've got to subscribe.
Only cost you a dollar.
Skater Naz or how do you get there?
For the Patreon?
Oh, you mean our Patreon?
Yeah.
Nas hasn't set up a Patreon?
Come on, Nas.
I told him to start one.
You can find it on ours.
We'll host all the skaternest stuff too.
All right.
We'll spread the money around.
After that bonus one,
all those bucks.
After that bonus one,
we got some more ideas coming for Patreon.
Nice.
All right.
Cool.
So it pays to be a patron.
There it is.
That's where you're going to find the commentaries
because they won't let us put them on YouTube.
Makes sense.
Yeah, you can't blame them.
All right.
Well, guys, you're all ready to jump into Cool of the Week?
Yeah.
I'll go last.
I got a few.
All right.
I'll go quick.
I'm going to get mine over with.
I'm trying to think.
All right.
I'm just going to say fuck the haters because everybody's down on this secret invasion.
Now, granted, I'm only two episodes.
episodes in, so it
could go way downhill.
But I'm kind of
enjoying a Nick Fury
and Talos-centric little
mini-series. I
enjoyed it, but I'll just tell you,
Lance, they lost me on the finale.
Oh, no.
Seems to be a common thing. Marvel.
Yes, it does. You're hooking
me in, but you're not
sticking to Landon. Oh, no.
There's Stephen King in it.
Yikes.
But for an overall thing, I can't judge it because it's a part of a bigger picture and a lot of people are like getting upset.
It's like, well, how is this going to work out?
We haven't seen how it works out yet.
It'll work it out.
I still have faith in Marvel.
Still have faith in Kevin Feige.
They'll make it happen.
It's going to all come together, guys.
Well, I like, I like that they're slowing down their output.
but there's not going to be as many TV shows.
That's a good idea.
Yeah.
I don't think everybody needs a TV show.
If you've got a new character, they can be introduced in somebody else's TV show.
They don't need their own TV show.
Or they could get their own movie like they started it out when it was awesome.
Yeah.
In the good old age when I was your boy.
But I personally, I'm not complaining because when I was a kid.
kid, I would have never thought we would ever see these comic book characters on TV.
When I was a kid, you could never tell me you see Batman a Superman in the same movie.
When I was a kid, we got The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby and Lou Forigno.
I thought you were going to say, when you were a kid, you were watching Adam West and as Batman,
George Reeves Superman.
I was. I was. That came on after school. It was reruns. That was a bad.
six or seven, no, that was about 10 years before, before I started burping milk, I think.
I'm not that at all right.
Hey, Lou Ferrigno was a good old, man.
Yeah, it was great, man. Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.
Yeah.
Yeah. But, yeah. Oh, we got Wonder Woman. I remember that.
That's true. Linda Carter.
Spin it in circles.
Enjoyed watching her running.
I still enjoy watching her run.
But yeah, we're spoiled.
That's true.
We're very spoiled now.
So, all right, secret evasion.
God damn it, it's my cool of the week.
But I'm only two episodes in.
That's the disclaimer.
I reserve the right to change my opinion as the series gets shittier and shittier,
which 10 out of 10 people now have told me it will.
So, Bill, what's got?
What's you got?
Man, I don't have much.
I'm trying to, I'm trying to think.
I don't think I watched any horror thing this week, aside from the movies that we watched.
I did finish, I finished Jack Ryan.
I'm hearing great things.
Sober now, isn't it?
It's over, that's it.
But it's a great show.
And I love the final scene.
I need to get some guys with nuts like that in there.
And I, aside, I've watched.
a cooking show on Netflix that was kind of cool.
Oh, do tell.
As Willie Walker would say, do tell it.
It was like, I can't even remember the name of it, like million dollars or something
or whatever, but it was like a, I think it was like a British show.
And they were all competing to win this.
It was very Gordon Ramsey-esque, but it wasn't Gordon Ramsey.
It was another guy.
Okay.
And he was holding this competition for the winner to run this restaurant.
And so it wasn't quite as indebted.
intense as a lot of those you have this much time to cook this thing go you know more of a more of a big
picture gets your restaurant with a sponge and a can of spinach figured out it was uh yeah it was like
a restaurant thing it's like okay let me see you run a service that kind of thing that's cool
and what's going to be your signature dish that kind of thing uh and it was pretty good uh a million
pound i can't fucking remember the name of the show it was
British. It was good.
So we can go with Jack Ryan, if nothing else.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I guess that's going to be my cool week.
Nice.
Watch any chick flicks with the wife or anything?
No, I mean, we, I, um, no, I hadn't really watched much, man.
I've been working my ass off.
That's a good thing, man.
It pays the bills.
Yeah, trying.
We'll kind of transition with that over to, uh, I checked out a raunchy female comedy.
Joyride.
Yeah.
You saw Joe Ride?
Yeah, all the cocaine that would have killed 10 full-grown people.
Oh, all that cocaine that exploded in her ass would have killed her.
Oh, that would have been a very short movie.
The Joyride would have been to the morgue.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny.
I didn't know it was going to be that kind of comedy with the drugs up the butt.
and three ways with a basketball team.
There's a character in the group called Dead Eye.
She was definitely my favorite.
Yeah, as soon as you meet her, you understand why they call her dead eye.
So that was pretty decent.
Definitely not for the kids.
Yeah.
And I don't know if you noticed, Lance.
one of the actresses was the daughter from everything everywhere all at once yes i did i did i was
like god damn it i recognized her and that it was the actress right the hollywood actress yeah
yeah i did i did the same thing i was out every time she came on screen i was just like who is she
and yeah that was that was pretty decent uh i don't know if you guys heard of this show on hulu
called uh this fool yes it's a
second season now, right?
Yeah.
Check that out.
I haven't heard of it.
Binge the whole second season.
Funny.
Definitely looking forward to season three.
If you haven't checked it out, it's a good comedy on Hulu.
30 minute-ish, maybe a little less than 30-minute episodes.
Okay.
So it's real quick to binge through.
Let's see.
Checked out the first two episodes of Twisted Metal.
Oh, is that out already?
good things or I like everything I've seen so far but I'm not digging Anthony Mackey
trying to be funny oh no oh no well as long he says something I'm like come on you
fucking corn ball shut up this he does long as he doesn't do the striking vipers
Brian oh yeah I don't think that actors in this series okay which uh what would what
What streaming thing is that on?
The Cock.
Of course.
But everything I've seen of, what was his name, Twisty?
The Cloud.
Yeah.
What kind of disappoints me about him?
I'm liking everything about him in the show, but the physical actor is played by this wrestler, Samoa Joe.
And somebody else does the voice, which kind of disappoints me because Samoa Joe.
One of the, he's, he's an amazing wrestler, but he also is very good on the mic and has a great voice.
So I'm just kind of like, why?
Why would they dub over that?
Yeah, why would they do that?
Because I, it's like a, I can't think of his name.
It's like a famous comedic actor that does the voice.
It's well, or it's somebody from Saturday Night Live, is?
Something like that, but you can tell they made his voice deeper.
So I'm just like, you could have just had Samoa Joe just do the voice.
I got to look it up.
Will Arnett.
It's Will Arnett.
There you go.
But it doesn't sound like Will Arnett.
It's like they made his voice like deeper and more sinister.
Why bother?
Yeah.
But I'm liking everything I've seen so far other than Anthony Mackey trying to be funny and quippy.
Right.
Let's see movies.
Checked out two new movies.
First one is like an action thriller, home invasion.
starring Maggie Q
called Fear the Night
Okay, I heard about this one
It's nothing new
It's basically
These women go to this
Like house that one of the women in the group's parents
Owned this house in the country
They're having a bridal shower
Something in the house
People are trying to get in there to get the money
Or it's money, sorry, spoiler
Oh no
Tyler
Tyler Perry
attempt. And of course, one of the
women has a military
background. Of course.
So she knows how to defend it. So.
Like you're next, right? Yeah, it's very
me.
It's nothing.
It's nothing you've seen.
Yes. Nothing you haven't seen.
Yeah. Oh, boy. And I don't,
I guess this is my cool of the week
because it's Nick Cage, but I was
kind of disappointed in this movie.
Simply. And it says, yeah.
I saw it was out there.
Yeah, it's out there.
I was like, it's Nick Cage.
I got to do it.
I got to talk about it on the show.
We reviewed the trailer.
It's not what we thought it was.
Oh, man.
It's definitely because of the title and then Nick Cage shows up in a red suit and red hair.
It's not what you think it is.
Spoiler alert.
Yeah.
But there are moments where Nick Cage goes Nick Cage.
Okay.
And it was very fun.
You know, his whole scene about he wanted to be 100% sexy.
Now he can only be 50% sexy.
Just the way he delivers lines like that is fun.
Sure.
I'll say it's my cool of the week because it's Nick Cage,
but I kind of was a little bored with it.
And if it was the movie that I thought it was, I think it would have been a lot.
There is a twist at the end.
Okay.
But then again, I saw the twist coming.
Not even Nick Cage could save it.
And I really kind of wanted to be this for this to be the next Cage Rage episode,
but I kind of don't want to review it for us.
show.
Oh, that sounds like this is, this is a mess week, guys.
Come on, right?
He does a lot of movies.
If you, like, there was one a few years ago that he did that was pretty awful, too,
and I can't remember what it was.
But, like, he's, he's done a lot of terrible when he's done.
Weird-ass movies, man.
Yeah, but the thing is, the movie's terrible.
Like, he, he's pretty fucking good at it.
Like, he brings his entertainment value to it.
Yeah.
It's just the story was just like you get the story and then you kind of see where they're going with it.
And then the twist is about to happen.
And you kind of already figured out the twist.
Oh, boy.
They need to stick him in like a guy reaching movie.
I would totally watch that.
With Brad Pitt, right?
Yeah.
Well, I would love for him to be, he's never been in a Tarantino movie.
and Tarantino's about to do his last movie.
That'd be fantastic.
I'd totally watch Nick Cage in a Tarantino movie.
On something wild and crazy.
He was always rumored to be in one of the expendable movies.
And that's never happened.
I'm not as excited about that one.
Yeah, I'd rather the Tarantino for sure.
Give him some dialogue, let him go.
But, yeah, I...
go with sympathy for the devil's.
You're right, Lance is very
math week.
Wow.
Well, not a good
thing then that there's a writer's and
actor strike going on, is there?
No, there's
there's already been some
there's already been some
shuffling of the movie schedule.
Uh-oh. Well,
since you mentioned it, Brian,
horror headlines, otherwise
known as writers strike
update. Take it away, Brian.
Rider Strike
Update. Let's see.
What are we at day 120
an hour or something like that?
Well, it's not horror, but I know
Sony completely shuffled
their whole movie schedule.
Of course. Like all their
Spider-Men list.
Craven the Hunter.
Craven as stupid as that movie's
gonna fucking be. I was
interested in it because they're going
full-rated R.
bloody graphic kills and
okay i would prefer i prefer mike bachelor
in it but okay yeah
uh that got shifted to next year
um boy
madam webb with your your girl lance
Dakota johnson sure
that got shifted to next year
the new ghostbuster's movie was
uh slated for uh December this year
that got bumped to next year
and the next uh
He was dead.
Oh, yeah.
I was going to save that for last.
I'm sorry.
Yeah, it was a bad day yesterday.
Peewee Herman died.
You know, rest in peace, Paul Rubin's.
The actor from Euphorio died.
That's right.
Angus Cloud.
25 years old.
That was pretty sad because his father had passed like three days before.
So.
And I think Shnade O'Connor died.
too? Pretty recently.
Yeah. Within the last week or so.
Oh, wow.
Someone needs to bring some ecstasy and cocaine around to bring us back up.
This is becoming the suicide.
Well, it's true.
Let's see. Is there any news, really?
The Rider Strike continues.
Yes, the Rider Strike does.
continue that news I can say for one of our trailers because we'll talk about that when we get
to trailers I'm not seeing any news guys all right you're you're ready to go to the trailer pot
let's do it Brian Brian is going to bring us the big the small and sometimes all the stuff
that got put out before everybody went on strike what's the first new trailer tonight Brian
You're going a little too fast for me.
I've got to pull it up.
Sorry, everybody.
Sympathy for the devil.
We're still looking for news.
Yeah, looking for news in all the wrong places.
All right.
Looking pun up.
First trailer up is the first in a new trilogy,
which is a direct sequel to the original classic,
The Exorcist, The Exorcist Belieber.
Okay.
Like I said, it's a sequel to the 1973 film.
This stars Ellen Burstyn is reprising her role as Chris McNeil,
Jennifer Nettles, Leslie Oden Jr., Ann Dowd, Lydia Jewett, Olivia McRum.
And the guy that Lance thinks is a terrible human being,
directed by David Gordon Green.
So you're telling me that in the third
movie they're going to put Captain Howdy and a meat grinder.
If his track record
from the Halloween movies goes,
this movie will be great.
The second will be fun.
The third one will be a complete train rig.
According to some people, I didn't hate Halloween.
I just didn't think it was a conclusion.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
So, fair enough, is this supposed to
to be a trilogy?
A new trilogy.
It is.
It's a direct sequel to the original one.
I'm worried.
Well, going off the trailer first, I loved how they rolled out the trailer because before
it was released to the internet, you can only go to the theaters and watch it.
It kind of took me back to when that's the only way you could see trailers.
Yeah, that's cool.
I thought that was cool.
As far as the movie, I kind of dug it.
I like that as two girls.
being possessed.
I thought just from what I'm seeing of the
girls acting in the trailer,
they look really good and
the makeup effects on them.
They look pretty good.
Yeah, they looked a very
exorcist. I like how they brought
Ellen Bernstein back.
Yeah. Because she's had,
of course, with Reagan,
has history
with this kind of stuff.
Sure.
And I,
I'm excited for this one.
I think
people should not go in thinking about
Halloween ends when they're seeing this one.
Just go see it for what it is.
And I'm excited.
Yeah, me too, man.
I think it looks pretty good.
I'm like, damn, this is the best looking.
I'm always up for a good possession movie,
which it's good.
Get to later.
But even if it's bad, I kind of like them.
Yeah, like I said, I like that it's two girls.
It kind of makes me think maybe one of the girls is not making it out of this.
Possibility.
Yeah.
But yeah, I mean, it looks pretty solid.
And like the first thing I've seen from the Exorcist series that can actually bear the name Exorcist, you know?
Sure.
Yeah.
It actually excited you, huh?
Yeah, it looks like it pays.
a lot of homage to the original, which is good
and maybe try some new things.
So, I like it.
What'd you think, Max?
AJ went with me to see the
new Talk to Me movie.
I told her, you might or might not want to go.
I was going to say, how'd she feel about that?
I told her, Theater 9 seats D5 and 6.
Go sit down, make yourself comfortable.
I'm going to get some snacks, got some press.
vessel by, it's got a soda. I come in there and she's fucking eagle eyeing me. She says, you
motherfucker, you left me in here all alone and they're showing a fucking trailer for that new
Exorcist movie. And before that, they showed the nun. And Catholic War and position showed all
her favorites. Yes. It was like those are those are my favorite ones, man. I love those.
she said you owe me big time so
I don't even know a whole lot about the Catholic religion
but those Catholic horror movies are fucking great
I know I know and then like especially when the nuns turn evil
right or the priests
satomized oh wait that's real life never mind
I bet she really enjoyed the scene
in the trailer where the little girl's all
demonic and creepy and she just keeps repeating God
played a trick on you
oh man
I said, look, if you want to go hang out in the lobby for a little bit, I'll be here when you get back.
She said, you owe me.
So she picked up tickets to go see Jelly Roll.
He's coming to, he's coming to.
So she and my sister-in-law are going to go check him out.
But, yeah, it's, it looks fucking amazing.
It doesn't look like CGI.
It looks like real makeup.
And I don't know.
A lot of practicals in the trailer.
A lot of practicals.
it would appear, right?
Or at least very well done.
What is Gilly roll?
Am I too old for that?
What the fuck is?
Oh, no.
You know who Gellarroll is, don't you?
Yeah, I do.
Yes.
I do not.
Follow the country music.
Oh, he's the country music guy.
The fact, I got you.
Yeah, he started it out, pre-styling, and ended up doing country.
So, okay.
Yeah, doesn't he have, like, a documentary on Loooo?
I was like, am I the end the fuck he's talking about?
Yeah.
Yeah, he does have a doc on Hulu and we checked it out.
He's a down-to-earth guy.
I like him.
He's pretty cool, man.
I remember listening to him before he was, like, doing country when he was primarily hip-hop.
Sure.
Like, way, my understanding is he does all of it at the show, of course, you know.
So, they'll have fun.
They'll have a lot more fun than she had watching Talk to Me with me.
trailers but uh i'm gonna say that definitely does not seem like an a j kind of movie
i'm i'm juiced i'm juice for this one guys um i'm ready so don't let me down guys
don't let me down gordon green the news i was holding back from horror headlines was uh
they've already titled and gave a release date for the second in the trilogy the next one
will be titled the Exorcist Deceiver
and it will be April 18th,
2025. I like it.
That's a good name too. I like it.
That's
two days before mine and AJ's
anniversary, so I'll take her there as an
anniversary gift.
That'll work out.
And this one will be released
October 13th.
I love the date, man. They ought to do
12 horror movies October 13th.
And we could just go to the theater together, guys, and watch them back to back to back.
Yes.
And that's Friday the 13th, isn't it?
I mean, if I'm not mistaken.
Oh, sweet.
Friday, October 13th.
Well, that totally makes sense.
Why they're coming out with the movie.
AJ will enjoy that.
Yeah.
Yes, that is the day the Rider Strike will end.
Write it down.
I said it.
Well, I hope it's before that actually.
All right
So, too.
All right.
Our second and final trailer is one that I am a little
kind of iffy on.
There's some things about it that intrigue me,
but I haven't been excited about this franchise
in a while.
And that is the new installment of the Saw franchise.
Saw X or Saw 10?
I don't...
Sure.
Didn't they already have a Saw 10?
We'll just...
Am I wrong?
Wasn't that the one
Chris Rock?
That was
a spiral.
What?
All right.
Let's see.
This one, of course,
Tobin Bell is returning
as John Kramer.
Johnny Smith is
returning as Amanda.
Whole new cast.
And from what I understand,
this takes place between one and two.
Okay.
Which
This is the good thing that I like
It takes place between one and two
You don't have to go back and watch all the movies
To get the story
It's pretty much a self-contained story
Yeah
And I will say the look of the trailer
The way it's shot
It does look like
Original Saw
Yes
Which I like that
Back to basics
Yeah
And that
that's the only good thing I can say about it.
I'm not really too excited for another song movie.
I don't know.
But it looks like they're kind of going back to basics.
Yeah.
Like, I don't hate the idea.
I was just confused with the Saw X.
I was like, no, no, no, no.
You already missed that.
You could have done that on the last one.
You didn't do that.
They had it on the whiteboard.
Yeah.
And at the end of the meeting,
nobody couldn't figure out a name, so they just kept it.
So X-1 doesn't have the same kind of ring.
Hey, if X works for Elon Moss.
Yeah, there you go.
X works for everything.
That's so stupid.
Brian, I believe the word is whack.
It's whack.
No, I'm actually a little bit excited about this one.
I'm more excited about this one than I was about Spiral.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was excited for Spiral just to know that, you know, it was an idea of Chris Rock came up with, and I was interested to see that.
But there's just some issues because Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith, they noticeably look older.
Well, yeah.
But this takes place between the first and, no, Shawnee Smith is a beautiful lady.
but she does not look like
2002
Shawnee Smith
that's quite worth
yeah
Tobin Bell
Tobin Bell has been old for a long time
so it's not really a big difference
with him
it looks like a leather saddlebag
anyway
but I do agree with you
Phil it looks like they're going back to basics
going back to the original style
and
I hope
we get to see some cool kills and some traps cool traps
I mean I like the I like the I like the idea of he went to go
get treated for cancer or get his tumor removed and they just basically
fucked them over and never did the procedure I could
did those people definitely they're all going to die sure so I mean we
we know that for a fact most of these people are going to die and
jigsaw is going to get away so
Now, did they know that he was Jigsaw and that's why they left the tumor in there?
That could be a twist.
I don't think they're thinking that far ahead, man.
We're going to review it.
It's on the schedule.
So when we review it, Lance, you bring that stupid people sounder because if you knowingly let Jigsaw get away thinking that we removed the tumor from him.
Yeah.
I did not think he's not going to come back.
for you.
Or if they didn't know he was a jigsaw
and they were just like,
yeah, fuck this guy.
It's too hard.
I'm going home for lunch.
This movie,
this trailer looks like hot garbage, guys.
I do not want to see this
fucking piece of shit.
But since it's on our schedule,
I do need to flesh out my bottom 10.
I think it'll be better than that.
This looks fucking horrible.
I don't give a fuck.
Have I?
I don't want to see a flashback,
jigsaw.
Come on.
Have I?
Have I called?
one yet this year
that will not be in your bottom
three and at least one of them
is already falling off so
we're not even halfway through the year
considering we I got 31
movies to watch in October I'm going to do
all new movies this year Brian for my
31 days dude oh good luck
so yeah we got a writer strike happen
I have black down final
there's lots of
movies backlogged
are you going to watch the black demon
well I have to man
oh well I guess
You got to fill up your bottom 10.
All right.
Saw X, September 29.
Saw X.
All right.
We'll move on to some listener feedback.
This week we shine the podcast spotlight on Bucket of Chum.
Because it's Shark Week.
A podcast about low-budget, fantastic, or just weird shark movies.
Join Steve Coats each week as he breaks.
down, dives, and takes a comedic look into the deep blue sea that is
shark's exploitation cinema. And there's some stinkers out there, so that ought to be fun.
We got Michael Kukyak, says, hello, I made an indie horror movie called Death Metal,
heavily influenced by Fulci and the original Evil Dead.
The distributor gave me a big box of Blu-rays, and I'd love to send you a copy if you're
amenable.
Yes.
I love physical media.
For sure.
Yeah, man, that'll be great for the collection,
and we'll definitely take a screener and review it.
Get you out there.
I don't know.
It sounds familiar.
I might have seen that movie.
It does sound familiar, death metal.
Not deathgasm.
Deathgasms amazing.
But, yeah, well, I'll check that one out.
Richard Kubli says,
Love Your Content on your page.
Appreciate you.
Thank you.
Regarding Jethica, Matt Wood.
Matt Wood says, did you like it?
It caught me off guard.
It kind of caught me off guard too, man.
But it wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but I didn't hate it.
I think that's why we all kind of liked it because it didn't, it's not what we thought it was going to be.
Yeah, it was something different, you know.
Original.
It was cool, you know.
Like they could have gone a totally different.
direction in the third act, and they didn't do that.
And I don't know if I liked that decision or not, but
it worked.
It wasn't a bad movie.
Regarding
Tales from the Crypt,
Al Ramseur says,
Tales from the Crip did we watch on the ship
like three years ago, and I've been
waiting for the re-invite.
Al will be joining us
for a television episode very shortly.
That should be a lot of fun.
Brian?
Yeah, man.
Yeah.
Let's, uh, yeah, I wish we could get together.
We'll pass a bottle of rum to Al.
He can do his best pirate accent.
Yes.
Come on, Al.
Don't let us down, man.
Need to find a good, uh, ship episode of Tales from the Crypt.
I'm sure there's one in there.
Yes.
I, yeah.
We got to, we got to do it soon.
The invites out, Al.
I know you're listening.
Invite is out, brother.
regarding quicksand
Darry and Revenant
I've heard nothing but bad
starting with
Brian's review
let you watch out of
Tim Brian
oh you watch it
it'll be on there
yeah okay
oh Darian Revenant
gives an official rating of meh
and Mattwood
says
Mattwood says shite
okay I'm
I'm in between meh
and shite
it's not it's not a badly made movie it's not a badly active movie it's just it's boring
don't feel anybody's really in danger yeah
like i thought quicksand was going to be so much quicker i've got so much
two hours later i'm bored
compared to fucking open water
it's just how long can i watch these people just float in the water
Shouldn't you guys be dead by now?
Regarding Heather Langenkamp,
Sonia Lynch says, I need this on a T-shirt.
Also, insane how well Deandra Laser pulls off Nancy.
I hadn't realized how much she truly resembled Heather until now.
No idea what you're talking about.
I have to go look up DeAndra Laser.
I know.
No idea.
That sounds like a stripper name if I've ever heard one.
Deandra Laser.
Sure.
Regarding Ninja 3, The Domination.
That sounds like a fantastic movie name, by the way.
The podcast That Wouldn't Die says, I love this movie so much, hilarious and bonkers.
Now, we know which co-host this is.
Do we?
One on Tim?
Is this one on 10?
No.
Not one on Tim.
Zim Vader says,
another review that is way better than the actual movie.
Great job and thank you.
That's insane.
That's insane.
It's amazing.
80s cheese.
Regarding Pet Cemetery.
Bloodlines, Stephen Loblad, says 10 for Lance.
Steve.
That must have been a couple weeks ago.
Yeah, like commentaries.
We did commentary, so we didn't do feedback last week.
Yeah, I think that's coming in October.
The Pet Cemetery sequel, and it's going to have to do with, what's the character's name, Lance?
Oh, the one he said sometimes dead is better.
Yeah.
You remember he told the story about how he had to bury his dog?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Oh, no.
I don't want to see that.
Prequel.
But I guess they're adding more to the story, though.
Okay.
About the cemetery was always known in the town.
Okay.
So it's not, he's got buried his dog.
dog comes back and that's it.
It's going to be a little bit more to it.
I don't hate the idea.
I don't have the cast in front of me, but
I remember looking at the cast and I was like, this is a
pretty decent cast here.
Okay. Okay. Maybe.
Well, Patrick Lear says it's going to make
Lance his top five, so.
Come on, guys.
Move on.
Regarding
Pruitt Taylor Vince,
Ariel Wellman says
he's great in X-Files, low his eye
condition it's so unnerving to watch on camera you know creepy I I love when that
happens like when somebody has like a condition that would be like Brian is like
I love it when somebody has a condition other than me like say what's his name
Robert Zadar okay yeah that that growth condition with his chin where it just
continued to grow that kind of made a career out of playing villains in movies because
that makes sense.
Plus, they're on screen so you can stare at them and nobody's going to say anything.
And Pruitt, Taylor Vince, he always has that thing where his eyes like go side to side
really fast.
Oh, you may.
And it's something you remember from that, you know, from that actor, so.
Sure.
Yeah, he was in the devil's candy, right?
Yeah.
Friend of the show, Ethan Embry.
Oh, that guy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's pretty good.
Super creepy.
creepy.
Regarding
Willem Defoe,
Zim Vader says
fuck the shit out of
Madonna.
Yes, he did.
Why does that
not surprise me?
He's not the
pickyest of people.
Regarding
Skinnamarink,
David Day says
in this house,
nothing happens.
You haven't watched it yet,
have you?
No.
I keep
scrolling across it,
and I'm like,
Like, do I really want to do this?
It's an investment, dude.
Yeah.
You got to prepare.
You got to have some time.
I mean, I guess I'm going to have to watch it because I'm sure it's going to end up on a list one way or another.
It's not horrible.
It's definitely not a bottom 10 for me.
It's definitely, what do you, what would you call it last?
It's like a experimental concept.
You kind of see what he was going for.
Sure.
Yeah.
But that right there in this house, nothing happened.
That's the same shit I've heard from everybody.
And I'm like, that doesn't make me want to watch it.
You mean a camera focused on a dresser?
Yeah.
30 minutes.
Yeah, I know.
It's like, all right, paranormal activity kind of did it right.
My favorite scene was the pile of Legos on the floor.
Oh, great.
Regarding Slasher, Matt Wood says Grusome, love it.
Yeah, nice poster.
Flash.
Okay.
Is that now?
Is that upcoming?
I've been posting a lot of a poster designer called Creepy Duck Designs.
He's been getting a lot of work doing the posters for, like, big movies.
So I've been posting a lot of his artwork.
And I guess it's one of his clients.
It looks like an independent slasher movie, but I never really, I haven't heard anything about it, but the poster looks really cool.
Yeah, Slasher with just like an R and no E at the end.
Yeah.
Regarding Midsamar, Marilyn Pennington says this was not one of my favorites.
Well, watch Bo as Afraid and it will.
I love it.
I love both of them.
on further
retrospection, or is that a word
I don't know, but I kind of like
Bo's afraid, man. And Jack
Falvey and I are probably going to do a
little 30-minute wrap-up.
I don't know if we're going to make it Patreon exclusive
or put it on the
feed, but we're going to compare it to
a certain film
by a Mr. Floyd.
First name, Pink.
But that's interesting.
Okay.
Okay. We'll see.
We'll see.
Which one's pink?
We'll see.
Regarding
Interview with Andrew Robinson
Zim Vader says it was a struggle
at times with the audio
but overall a lot of fun to listen to.
Yes.
Great interview.
I apologize.
We will never go off Skype again.
Yeah, that was...
If they say you got to do me
over the regular phone, we're going to say...
He's like, what?
You're skipping these Skype.
I just call me on my phone.
That's how that way.
Yeah, great interview, but, uh, oh, and Al Ramser says,
When Damon and Affleck get together, those movies never miss.
Vinnie Diesel in legit dramas, he's legit.
Okay.
Slim Damon, L-O-L, Fat Damon is a great actor.
Hey, Fat Daman, he's coming to his own.
He is a pretty good actor.
He's almost got a nice.
name now. I mean, he's sure. He's still always
fat Damon in my heart.
I can't argue with anything
Al said here.
Yeah, right. And
when he's been in
legit dramas, he's been
pretty good. Like, a boiler room,
a save a private Ryan.
Oh, boiler room. I forgot about that. Yeah.
That was a good one.
That Mr. Nanny, whatever
one that he did? I don't think
that's the
drama.
the remake of the whole
he he was fun in that uh he was fun in that uh he was fun in that one where he played the mobster
sounds familiar um be cool no no it was
he was a gay i forgot what it's called like they he was like an italian gangster
and it's like a true story where the guy like they wanted him to like snitch on it on
certain people and he
never did and he was doing his time.
It's like a,
it's a decent movie.
He has hair.
No joke, man.
He can, he can, oh, yeah, well, that's weird.
It's all about family.
Let's see.
After Dark with Super Marcy podcast, Mike Clettenberg,
Diana Firefly, oh, these are our new members.
I'm sorry.
Ah, welcome.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Cool. Mike and Klettenberg, Diana Firefly, Colin Firefly, Colin Kirsten, Richard Kubli, Chai Simone, and The House That Screams Horror Podcast, Barbara Williams, Once Upon a Nightmare. So, appreciate you guys for joining us.
Yeah, welcome. Welcome.
And that's it for feedback this week. Of course, all of our intro and logos come from Steve Carlton.
from the geeks, except the
original skull artwork, which comes through
Natsuani. Check them both out.
And if you'd like to
help us out, please consider becoming a Patreon
patron. Give us a dollar.
Let you do a commentary.
You can come on and do it
with us. And we can just let us take it.
Yeah, but if you're on Patreon,
that's where the commentaries, I think, are
going to end up being.
Makes sense.
So, I haven't worked out the details
yet, but we'll get there.
On to the featured attractions.
This week we make the theaters again to check out the new A-24 film Talk to Me, as well as 2017's Veronica, which, that was a Netflix release, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Was it?
Okay.
Originally on Netflix.
Yeah, exclusive.
Now, so we'll start with Veronica in 2017.
But who?
No, I know.
You also noticed something?
That of what you despise, she
He goes to...
Madrid, 1991.
A teen girl finds herself besieged by an evil supernatural force
after she played Ouija with two classmates.
Oh, boy.
Never do that.
Man.
Director is Paco Plaza, also known for Rec.
And writers are Paco Plaza, Fernando Navarro, and Coral Cruz.
During the eclipse viewing of the school roof, Lucia views the sun through a photographic negative.
The sunlight projects the image onto her face.
In the same photo of the children's father that Veronica brings to the seance taking place at the same time in the school's basement.
Huh.
Did not notice that.
I didn't either.
All right, Brian, what did you think about Veronica?
All right.
This is my second time watching it.
My first time was when it originally came out in 2017.
I did not like it then.
Yeah.
I do not like it now.
Oh, no!
I think all the elements are there.
Yeah.
Okay.
But it just doesn't hit right.
I don't know.
I like the director.
I understand what you're saying.
I thought everybody did fine as well as acting.
It just, I don't know.
And somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear I remember when this movie first came out,
they were advertising it as like one of these scariest movies that come out that year.
Yeah, they definitely were.
A little bit of hype machine.
Maybe I'm desensitized and it's hard to scare me, but everything was just...
As far as like this kind of possession, demonic, Catholic, religious horror, it was vanilla.
Yeah.
Everything.
I mean, I liked, I liked, you know, the, the setup of the, the girl has to take care of the younger siblings because the mom's working all the time.
She has to get them to school.
She has to do all this stuff.
Yeah, there was a lot of story there, Brian.
Yeah, there was a lot of story, but.
the main part of the movie is the demonic stuff and I just
and you you signed up for a scarier movie with more action
well they told me it was going to be a scarier movie don't tell me this is
going to be scary as movie oh the old rope a dope and what did you say Paco Plaza's
done right right so wreck this wasn't wreck was nonstop action
yeah wreck was great you know right was a fucking
modern day classic. Exactly.
You go from Rec,
which
has the fucking scares
in it. And it's almost
the building almost kind of reminds me
something of that building in
wreck. Yeah, a little bit.
Okay, kind of industrial.
Yeah, and
so like I said, all the elements were there,
but it's just nothing was just
it's like I knew everything that was
going to happen. I knew
when they were doing the seance with the Ouija
board the
stuff with the
she's you know the
she's dreaming the
the once scene where the
she's waking she's getting woken up by her brothers
and sisters and they start
biting her I'm just like
the way you kind of delivered
all this I know it's not real
it's not happening
yeah it did make me think of the old
dream fake out yeah the dream
fake just the way like all all those
scenarios that happen
with her dream sequences
I knew there were dream sequences before they were revealed.
And it just nothing hit for me in this movie.
Super cop out, right?
And I wanted to like this movie.
Like I said before, the acting was pretty good.
I thought the main girl that played Veronica did an excellent job.
And all the elements for a scary movie were there.
It's just it didn't deliver.
And I think for someone that did a, like you said,
I agree with you, Lance, instant classic like rec.
just didn't deliver for me.
And this movie was disappointing.
And I hope that on a rewatch,
I was going to come into it with different eyes,
but it just hit the same as the first time I watched it.
And I was bored.
And this is one of those movies where you pick up your phone
and you start checking.
Oh, no.
Which is not great because it's subtitled.
Oh, I know that makes it even worse.
Although it is at least Spanish, so we can pick up a lot of it, right, Philip?
I don't know.
I pick up or here and there.
I didn't see enough.
I didn't hear enough.
Yeah.
I didn't hear enough.
Ah, ho'erle, bonoche.
I really, I really.
I honestly tried to give it 100% the second time, and I just ended up having that same feeling I did the first time I reviewed it or watched it.
Brian.
General question, Brian, do you have a problem with slow burn movies?
No. Actually, doing the show, I've become very fond of slow burn movies because a lot of movies we reviewed that were slow burn movies.
I probably, before we were doing the show, would have neither not watched or not watched right away.
Okay. So your eyes have been open to some of that, but this one just,
didn't hit anything for you.
Yeah, I mean, we just talked about Bo's Afraid.
I don't like that movie, but
I watched it.
And if Aris...
You suffered through it.
But I loved Mitz Samar.
I loved Hereditary. Those are all slow burns.
Boy, hereditary is a slow burn with a payoff,
though, man. Yeah. That one's got some good...
Yeah, when I think of slow burn, I'm thinking more of
like House of the Devil, you know, where it's literally
nothing, but...
character development until it goes
bad shit crazy the last
10 minutes. I love that
that this is not House
of the Devil.
All right, fair enough.
Verna. At least it wasn't
Veratica, the one that
Oh, God.
You know, we have to do that movie one day.
I've never
in my life.
I've never in my life.
I was going to ever say, I'm tired of seeing boobs.
Have you guys seen it?
No.
Unfortunately, it was definitely, it was firmly in my bottom 10 that year.
Phil, there's scenes where you can tell the actress is doing stuff.
And you can see that she looks off camera like, am I supposed to stop or do I keep going?
Oh, no, that's like bad porn.
Where they look off camera and they're like, all right, what am I?
what do I do next?
Do I keep waving my hands?
Okay, keep going.
All right.
Great.
They look over there like, hey, tone it down.
You're making too much noise.
All right.
Lance, what did you think about Veronica?
Okay, I hadn't seen this one before.
And I had a slightly different takeaway than Brian.
And would this movie have made my top 10 if I'd seen it the year?
It came out?
Probably not.
The things that I liked about it, I love the way they framed the movie.
They bookended it where they made the beginning look like it was going to be a found footage movie,
which you're like, okay, this is the rec director.
And when it started out with that, like showing the news articles and, you know, like showing the footage and stuff like that,
I thought, okay, cool.
This is going to be like a found footage type movie that I'm probably going to dig because I really,
you know, Doug Wreck.
And then they ended it like that, too.
Like at the end of the movie,
they put kind of a found footage-esque, you know,
bookend on it.
I definitely appreciated that filmmaking style.
I liked it.
It kind of lent an air of like Texas Chainsaw Massacre
or something like that
where you can almost believe this is a real movie,
like a real event, something that actually happened.
So I definitely liked that.
Visually, this movie to me was a treat, man.
I mean, it was gorgeous.
There were some shots, like, particularly like when you would take a camera and point it down at something that was happening, or you'd get perspective by pointing the camera out or having things out of focus.
I think it was a beautifully shot movie.
I love the way that they kind of, they had her walking sort of like, you almost were worried something was going to happen to her because you've got this young school girl that's like 16 years old.
And she's walking and you see all these lettuous old Spanish man like, aye, aye, aye.
Like looking at her, like a Popeye cartoon or something.
I thought it was great, you know, masterful the way that they did that.
Brian, you touched on the way that she has to take care of, you know, the young ones because part of the family is missing.
I love the broken family elements of that.
I love the setup.
I really enjoyed the character development.
I liked her.
I was worried about her when she was in peril.
I think some of the people around her were pretty shitty.
But as far as, are you going to be able to?
to take a Ouija board and play with it?
Not a good idea. Never a good idea.
So, yeah, the movie kind of wore a lot of stuff on its sleeve that you can say, yes, I saw
that coming.
I knew that was going to happen.
And then, yeah, they kind of got into, like you said, the Catholic, the possession type
stuff, which I really necessarily wasn't expecting.
I didn't know if they were going to go that way or not.
And I kind of thought, well, they're kind of falling back on tropes a little too much here.
but visually, I mean, it was a gorgeous, stunning movie.
I liked all the characters.
I enjoyed, you know, the trajectory of the her habit.
I felt for her a lot.
Like, I really did.
I felt for her having to take care of those little kids and, you know,
the screaming rug rats and stuff like that.
It's like, somebody's got to be responsible.
There's a lot of families like that.
So I don't know.
I'm kind of torn on this one.
I enjoyed the look of it.
You know, had it been a little bit more of a substantial,
story. I think I probably
are something a little bit more original than
what they did. I would have liked it
more. But I appreciated the
found footage looking bookends.
I love the look of the movie.
I thought all the acting was
above average for sure.
And it's going to be
kind of hard for me to come up with a score for this.
Philip, you're going to have to help me out here, man.
Yeah, real, real quick.
And real
quick, and I really
didn't understand the introduction
of the character
what the students called her
sister death?
That was creepy.
The smoking, the old smoking
It was not.
All she said was stuff
that we already knew.
Yeah.
Yeah, I know.
And then when Veronica ran away,
she would just smoke her little cigarette
and say,
Run, child,
maybe you can get away.
Yeah.
Lots.
There's like,
maybe she's going to have a bigger part
of this story.
Nope.
Lots of stories.
Lots of sizzle and not much steak, I would say.
Paco, when you were going to make another rec movie.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, you've only made four, so we're ready for rec five.
Come on, Paco.
I'm sort of in the middle kind of somewhere on this one, too.
I remember I turned it on when it first came out because of all the advertising that was like,
oh, this is the scariest movie ever.
And I only made it like 10 minutes.
into it and I was like, this is not what I want to watch
right now. I think we talked about it
before, like years ago. Did we?
Probably. I think me and Phil
brought it up because I think we both
watched it at the same time
because of those advertisements.
Yeah, but I didn't ever
actually finish it. And so I was sort of
excited to actually watch it this time.
And I didn't
hate it. I mean, it was a pretty
decent movie. I like the
family dynamic and all that. But
I'm going to say, I watched it earlier
this week and at this point in time I don't really remember a whole lot about it that's
not a good sign it so vanilla is about that's not a good sign yeah vanilla is about right on for
this one I think it was okay you know I remember enjoying it that's about it
think thank God thank God Brian sent us to see talk to me this week too am I
all right?
I mean, there was good scenes in here, like, uh, breakfast scene where she's,
she's eating breakfast and then she just goes into like paralysis and can't move.
Oh, yeah.
That's pretty cool.
And the brothers, the siblings are freaking out because, you know, she looks like she's choking
at the same time.
Yeah, with shit falling out of her mouth.
Yeah.
Like stuff like that is cool.
Like I said, there was just.
Yeah, visually very appealing, right?
Like they didn't, it was, it was kind of a slow burn.
without the big payoff.
You know?
Yeah, that's the kiss of death, isn't it?
It's like this movie would have been a really cool short film.
Yeah.
Or had they gone like fucking nuts in the third act?
It'd been maybe a different story.
Mm-hmm.
But as it is.
But they didn't.
Yeah, I liked it when I watched it.
I just can't remember it.
Oh, yeah.
Well.
All right.
So we'll see if the next one's better.
Brian, what's your score on this one?
Like I said, elements were there.
Acting was good.
I do agree with you, Lance, as far as the cinematography and the direction.
It just wasn't scary and nothing memorable happened.
I think I brought up all the decent enough scenes in there.
And as soon as you were saying them, I was like, oh, yeah.
But see, that's the problem.
Like, that is a problem.
If it was as advertised, those scenes would have stuck with you.
Right.
There's movies that catch your attention and movies that don't, man.
This one didn't catch the fish.
Like in this religious horror genre, like we brought it up The Exorcist,
there's stuff in that movie that we've seen,
even after only seen it one time, it's stuck with us forever.
Yeah.
And that was my big problem.
with this movie don't tell me this is the scariest movie of the year and then i'm struggling to remember
what happened in the movie yeah a little a little bit overhyped i mean it honestly
if it wasn't i don't even remember any of the characters names other than veronica because that was the
title of the movie and because they said it 8 000 times well they called her bera
That only God.
With all that being said, it's not complete waste of time for all those reasons.
Yeah.
I would have to give it four.
Four on ten.
Okay.
He's close to halfway.
Nothing wrong with a good old four on ten.
That's for damn sure, right?
Lance, are you with him, four on ten?
I made me the high man on the totem pole.
I'm going five and a half because I liked.
Yeah, just because of the gorgeous visuals in the way that you did that.
I thought it was kind of brilliant.
If it had been a really good movie in the middle of like a fake out found footage start
and a fake out found footage ending, you might have something going on here.
See, but just imagine the movie we got and then we got to the last 20th,
minutes and then it just went bat shit crazy like a wreck movie right oh that would be great no not even
the wrecked also like demons coming out of the walls hands coming up out of the ground no it really
the sun permanently going behind the moon forever just just imagine it went complete it just went
complete evil dead okay i'll go five i'll go five right right this is exactly in the middle
precisely in the metal
You know what
I'm gonna redact my
my score
I do agree with you Lance it is a five
It's right there
This has ever happened before Philip
No well that's exactly where I was too
This is like you know
Nice lukewarm bathwater
It's right like cold soup
Right in the middle
This is like cold tomato soup
This is a five
It's not awful
That's not great.
Like that gas station sushi was okay.
And put that on the B-ray.
Okay.
All right.
Let's roll on over to talk to me,
2023.
Have you seen a group chat?
I'm doing it again tonight.
No, no.
Please.
It's my mom's remembrance day.
I just want to forget about it.
Huh?
Do it.
Who's up?
I'll do it.
Cannot go for more than 90 seconds.
I might clear.
What happens after 90 seconds?
I'm not endorsing gas station sushi, by the way.
That's probably a bad idea.
When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand,
they become hooked on the new thrill
until one of them goes too far
and unleashes terrifying supernatural
forces, which
I have questions about.
Director and writers
are Danny and Michael
Philippeepu.
Also known for Raka Raca,
and the camera
and crew work
on the Babadook.
I did check out their YouTube channel
and
their next movie they are doing
the new street fighter movie
Oh, they do a lot
I didn't know there was one.
They do a lot of
fight choreography scenes.
Okay.
They got a video called
Real Life Mortal Kombat Fatality
and it's just a fight that happens at a barbecue.
And it was fun
choreography, so I
can...
They pull out the ribs.
Ah!
So, fun YouTube channels.
They do videos like that.
All right.
Cool.
I'm looking them up right now, guys.
Well, they turned down the chance to direct an unknown film in a DCEU.
Who can blame them?
In favor of having talked to me be their directorial film debut.
Six hands were made for the movie.
I got to respect that.
You got to respect that.
Six hands.
were made for the movie, should any of them happen to get damaged or broken?
Director Danny Phillip who kept one of the hands.
That's probably not a great idea.
In the backpack?
I don't know.
Brian, what did you think about talk to me?
I really enjoyed this one.
I thought it was an original story.
I like the whole aspect of instead of a Ouija board, you had this embalmed hand, which
that is pretty fucking creepy right there.
And not talking down on this generation,
but this really feels like something this fucking generation would do.
A new TikTok challenge?
The latest TikTok challenge, the latest party game.
Let's pull out this dead and bombed hand
and let's conjure up spirits.
Love it.
I thought the acting was pretty fucking solid in this.
The practicals were really good.
It was a straightforward story.
And an hour and a half, it kind of really didn't feel like an hour and a half
because the story just kind of went by.
And I liked everything with the afterlife, the summoning of the spirits,
especially with the, well, I'll save that for spoilers.
I thought
The movie didn't reinvent the wheel for me
Because a lot of people saying
This is the best modern-day horror movie
In the past 10 years
I wouldn't give it that much credit
But it's really fucking good
And I believe I read
It's the second highest
Opening weekend for A24 film
Oh look at that
Makes sense, yeah
And it probably
I mean it was a bad week for it to come out
You know because the Barbie
movie in Oppenheimer's like killing everything right now.
So, but that's really commendable, especially for a couple of guys from YouTube to make their
directorial debut, feature film debut with this one.
And yeah, I thought it set the atmosphere and a move right with everything, the music, everything,
everything came together nicely.
And it was just a creepy movie and a cool idea.
And I thought they stuck it.
All right.
Lance, what did you think?
I didn't know what to expect.
I mean, I saw the trailer and I thought, this is, this is fucking stupid.
A hand that has people writing on it like you, you know, sign your name on a cast.
And they like grab the hand and they say talk to me.
So as the movie started, I was trying to figure out what was going on because they were showing all these weird.
Well, first of all, the opening scene, I really don't even want to say what happens because that's kind of a spoiler because it was such a shock.
So the opening scene was like, okay, so this is where we're going.
We're really going to do everything Veronica didn't because we're actually jumping right into action immediately, right?
So that was a nice, gruesome opening.
We get the payoff later in the movie of where that story went, as I figured we probably would.
But so you're showing, I mean, this movie is so fucking dialed in to what's going on with the young generation.
right now, man, because you've got these videos, like you're saying, Brian, with the TikTok
stuff and the challenges.
And so you've got all these YouTube videos, TikTok.
Everybody's got their cameras out, which I loved.
I love the way that they did that.
I could see that really happening with this generation, totally.
And I love the way they were showing, like you could barely see that there's people like
this with black eyes.
And I'm like, is this an alien invasion movie?
What's going on?
here. It hooked me. I got to tell you, this movie is not what I was expecting. I thought it was
going to be a dumb retread of every fucking seance and Ouija board movie you've ever seen,
but with a fucking hand that looked like a cast that you would initial. Yeah. But as soon as we
started figuring out what was going on, and then you bring in a known actress. You've got,
what's her name? Is it? Oranda Otto. Yes. You got her in there. I'm like, okay,
I've seen her in a thousand things.
And nobody else have I seen in anything else.
And every character in there was playing themselves.
And the main actress nailed it.
I mean, she was fucking phenomenal from start to finish.
And then once you understood, so when they first touched the hand and they said,
talk to me.
And I'm not going to go too far because I don't want to spoil it.
But I definitely got the vibe of, okay, this is when you're playing with fire.
It's like doing drugs.
experimenting with ecstasy, experimenting with heroin,
experimenting with, you know, weed that's super strong.
You know, pick your poison, right?
So I definitely got that vibe with it.
Also, kids like to do stupid things, right?
Because they think they're going to live forever.
So kids aren't afraid of anything because they're literally indestructible.
When you're that age, there's old age doesn't even exist.
It's like a complete fake, you know, you'll never be old.
You'll never die.
There's no future consequences for anything.
No future consequences.
I totally get it.
I did those stupid things.
You guys have done those stupid things.
Yes, this generation may be a little bit more stupid.
Maybe not.
But yeah, I mean, it's, I'm kind of overwhelmed right now with this movie.
They just have more toys.
More toys.
And this was one fucking hell of a toy, wasn't it?
When you're able to touch a hand and you say talk to me and then shit goes fucking bonkers,
holy shit
and then the ecstasy
that they felt
after that
the rules were
laid out
plain and simple
there was no
like
what how did they get here
or what they're going to have to do
or why did this
go wrong
the rules were laid out
and you knew what was happening
when it was happening
why it went wrong
kind of like a control group
like a controlled experiment
gone around
because the emotions take over.
And somebody sees someone or thinks they see someone.
We'll talk about all that later.
But I can understand why people did the things that they did.
And I don't blame anyone in this movie.
I totally get it.
I'm not saying I wouldn't have done the same thing
if I'd been in the position that our lead actress was in.
So I love the way that they made the character so ambiguous.
So you've got the guy that got the hand.
from someone else, and he's like totally a fish out of water, not the type of character you would
expect to see in this environment. And then you've got the friend that's kind of an asshole.
Was it a chick or was it a guy? I don't know. And I love that. I love the ambiguity of all these
characters. I love the way that everybody had their own character arc, and they did a great job.
So I don't know. I, you know what, Renfield, you were my number one movie. I think you're out.
I think this is it
I think this is like
this is fucking now
we're getting somewhere
I hope the rider's strike
doesn't fuck us
but
this was an experience
for me
I really loved it
what did you think Phil
I don't want to spoil anything
so
my biggest regret on this movie
is that I didn't get to go see it
in the movies
so I don't know
you did a smile
you put a smile
I know, you fucking asshole.
And the soundtrack and the sound editing was fucking amazing.
I definitely.
There was one scene later in the movie where they're doing, they're, ah, fucking A man.
They were getting excited.
Brian, you know the scene I'm talking about?
Yeah.
Where they had the music.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Chop, chop, chop, chop.
Yeah.
And if I hadn't seen that in the theater, I would have felt so cheated.
That podcast is fucking amazing, man.
Well, man.
And then everything happened that you knew was.
going to happen. It was about
halfway into this movie where I was like,
fuck, man, I really should have gone to see this in a theater
because... Just like smile, asshole.
You should have seen Smile in the theater too,
man. This is way better than Smile, I think,
in my opinion. Yeah,
this one hooked me and pulled me
in. I wasn't expecting a whole lot
out of it. I was expecting one of those cheesy
what was that movie that came out
before Smile where they had the big stupid
fucking grin?
Truth or dare.
Truth or dare. It looked.
It looked like it was going to be truth or dare, you know, except that it was 824, so I had a little faith in it.
And that's not what it was at all, dude.
This was a pretty goddamn good movie.
Like, they hooked me in, they had the simple rules, they had some great effects.
They had some really creepy moments.
And they had the, they really caught the essence of kids get together and doing stupid shit.
which happens with every generation.
Time and memorial, man.
Yeah.
Just, yeah, you know, before now we didn't have cell phones,
so none of it was fucking captured.
And we had to make up our own dump shit.
But, uh,
but, uh,
but yeah, man,
I was,
I was really impressed with this one.
I thought it was a really good movie, man.
It,
it definitely caught me.
I have some questions because I didn't really get to see every little
bit in piece of it because I was also
helping my daughter with her homework
at the same time.
This is a rewatch. This is a rewatch.
Oh, for sure. I'm definitely going to rewatch this one.
Yeah. Matter of fact, I may take her to go see
this one because I was expecting some
maybe inappropriate scenes and there wasn't really
anything too crazy in it.
Not really just that one
super super. Yeah, well, there was that.
Well, I guess there was really a couple of them.
but they weren't like...
Not a lot of tits out of the screen, right?
Nothing went to over the top.
I think it was pretty sustainable.
Yeah, that's the right word for it.
But, yeah, it was a good movie, man.
I was happy.
Let's do scores and we'll get into spoilers because I have questions.
Yeah, lots of spoil.
Brian.
Nine out of ten.
Nine.
Ooh, Lance.
Nine out of ten.
Oh, wow.
I'm going to give it an eight and a half.
half for now.
Cool.
I can't really give it a fair score.
I think I need to watch it again.
And I'm excited about watching it again.
Or at least Philip's seat on a huge screen with an awesome surround sound or a soundbar that kicks the ass.
And crank it up.
Yeah.
Because the music, the way the music went with this movie was fucking amazing.
These guys know exactly what they're doing.
Worst case scenario, I'll just wait to me.
Does these guys have a musical background?
Because the music just fucking fit.
Every fucking scene.
Oh, the scene where they were all, well, we'll get it.
Yeah.
But, yeah.
I mean, even from the start, even from the start, every time they got together and partied
and you had music playing in the background, it was like perfect.
It was absolutely.
That's where I was thinking, like it, because there's the one, there's a scene, and I guess
this is probably not too much of the school.
And very Australian, by the way.
Yeah.
Where they're all like, it's like a montage of them getting possessed by this thing.
And then they've got the music playing.
And it just, it really caught the, the attitude of it.
You know, I like it.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I'll wait till the kids go to bed when this one comes out and crank it up.
So, sounds good.
All right.
Spoilers.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking.
warned. This is a motherfucking
spoiler alert. You've been
fucking warned. This is a
motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
Yeah, I'll just jump in.
Like I said before, I like the straightforward
rules. You grab the hand.
You say, talk to me.
And then you see the thing.
This is, it appears in front of you.
And then you say, let me in.
Or I let you in.
Yeah. And then the disparate
possesses your body.
Right.
First you say talk to me
and then you see the ghost.
Yeah.
And then you have 90 seconds.
You're told why
don't go past 90 seconds.
Or it'll stick around
is what they say.
Or blow and blow the candle out.
Okay.
Yeah.
The rules.
Yeah.
Simple.
So when it goes wrong,
you know where it's wrong
because nobody blew the candle out.
And then take a week off.
So, all right.
Drink one beer.
So the first time that she did it and she got kind of stuck on the hand there for a minute and the guy couldn't get it away.
That was crazy.
Did that go over the 90 seconds?
Yeah.
Yes.
Okay.
So that's why it stuck with her.
Yeah, that's why she was constantly being followed.
That makes sense.
Yeah.
She was fucked.
As soon as she did that, she had to hang around.
Yeah.
And everything.
Ground water log ghost.
Like one of the fat, ground zombies and the walking dead.
Yeah, everything about the possessions were fucking amazing from the very uncomfortable
sexual spirit that made out with the dog.
That was the weird part.
I was kind of funny, though.
I got to laugh out of that.
He's like, you guys leak that shit right now.
And it was foretelling to.
was the one possession
who pointed out the boy Riley
and said they like you
and that was the one
that ended up in the hospital
they were
foretelling that
this kid was going to get hurt really bad
that they wanted him
yeah because he was young
right he had a young soul
he was young and innocent
and that was so
he was closest to this side of the grave right
and that was so brutal
Oh, yeah.
The scene that had him end up in the hospital, him just bashing his head on everything.
And pulling his eyeball out.
Yeah, honestly, I thought he was dead.
I thought as soon as he pulled the eyeball out.
Now, if she hadn't put her hand there, do you think he would have died?
Oh, that was the final, that was the final blow right there.
I mean, she, what, broke her fingers?
Yeah, her fingers went all backwards when it did that.
That was good effects.
Yeah, it looked very practical, did.
Didn't it?
Just everything with the actress, I think her name is the lead actress was Sophia Wilde.
Like she did a phenomenal job at this.
Yeah, for sure.
That was great.
Just her acting when the scenes where she's talking about her mother, like her expressing grief.
Yes.
Her acting when she's being possessed by another spirit, which is all phenomenal to me.
Yeah.
There's a scene where like tears just pop out of her eyes.
and start rolling down.
It's great.
Yeah.
And she was really crying.
You can tell.
But do you guys blame her?
I mean, she's talking to her mother.
And I honestly think when it goes first, that was my question.
My theory is that at first it was.
And then they all pulled the mother back and they brought more evil spirits.
I agree with you.
I think originally when, when before they went over the time.
And then the 90 seconds.
That was the mother.
But then every other time you've seen the mother, I think that was the evil spirit using the likeness or whatever.
Yeah.
Kind of like the scrolls, Brian, from Sydney.
And that, I mean, obviously her dad was alive in the other room, right, when the dad's spirit came in.
Yeah.
So, yes, they can change their look.
And somebody mentioned that, I think, in the movie.
It's a good point.
So they can make themselves look whatever they, whatever you wanted to see, they can make themselves look like that.
It's kind of like It follows.
Yeah.
A lot of it follows vibes.
Now, okay.
Now, did her mom commit suicide?
I think the mom committed suicide, but I think they were telling, they were trying to, they were trying to get her.
It wasn't a suicide.
The dad has something to do.
It killed the dad.
Yeah.
Yes.
they were trying to get everyone dead so that all the dead people could join them in the spirit world.
That's why they told her the only way you can, once the mother was gone and he had an evil spirit inhabiting or looking like the mother,
they said the only way you can save the boy is to kill him.
Because as soon as she kills him, he's theirs.
And then I noticed that in one scene there was one of the ghosts, like the fat waterlog ghost, told her,
he will be hired.
No, it was the old ghost that was inside of him, said, he will be ours, right?
And then when the mother said, go ahead and do the right thing, honey, he'll be ours forever.
He'll be with us forever.
And I'm like, that's when they want that soul, that fresh soul, like eating meat, like consuming.
It was just, it was really well done.
It was really well done.
I've got a big question at the very end.
Did she sacrifice herself?
I like to think she did.
That's why she ended up the final death.
I think she sacrificed herself saving him because I think that scene where she's walking through the hospital.
She sees him going through the stages of recovery and walking out with his family.
She sees her father.
Right?
That could be like three months later.
Yeah.
She sees her father who amazingly survived being stabbed by scissors.
Walks to the elevator and then everything.
goes dark until a match letter
lights and then you realize it's a candle
being lit. Yeah.
She's on the other side of the end.
I love that. She's on the
end. It's a great ending.
Well, and then
the scene where
the ghost
says, I let you in.
And she goes into their
world for a minute and sees what's
going on with that. Like, I love the way that
they used these rules and they didn't muck
them up. Yeah. And that scene
where she's seen.
Yeah, they stuck with the rules, right?
Where she's seeing what's happening to Riley.
It reminded me of Event Horizon.
Yeah.
Where he's like, I'll show you, I'll show you, let me show you, and he shows you their world.
Yeah.
Like, torture and I thought that was really cool.
Yeah.
Oh, damn, dude, this is a good fucking movie, man.
Yeah.
It was a lot better than I expected it to be.
I'm really excited to watch a real copy of this one.
I didn't, I didn't expect.
I didn't expect much.
Honestly, like I said,
when I saw the trailer,
I thought,
this looks like fucking shit.
Same thing we've seen
a thousand times,
a bunch of little young kids.
This is what Bodies,
body's body should have been.
Well,
I like Bodies,
Bodies, body's bodies.
It was all right.
I'm like one of the few things.
It was an honorable mention for me.
Yeah.
And seeing this
and then seeing how they do
their live action
fight videos.
And I'm just now
reading some of the stuff.
They're probably big fans of Street Fighter, so they're going to put that love into the movie of the game and making action videos and stuff like that.
And watching this movie and showing me that they know how to make a movie.
I hope they bring Jean-Claude Van Dam back.
They will.
So you guys, it sounds like all three of us really love that montage when the music matched up perfectly.
with all the kids like
okay now I'm touching it now
then you see them go back in their eyes
turned black
it was a fun
that was a master class in making
a montage
so if you're going to a street fighter
they're going to have a training montage
such a fun thing to do at party
I know let's all get possessed
because it looks so
fucking painful too
that's what they talk about
like smoking DMT
you go out for like
30 seconds or whatever
and end up in a fucking spirit
realm.
Yeah.
Dude, that's got to be the
worst of the parties.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm glad they started
putting the dog in the other room.
No kidding.
Oh, yeah, that's shit.
I was worried he was going to
like kill the dog.
That demon was a freak
because you see him later
in that scene where he's sucking
on the guy's foot.
Oh, yeah.
I love the way that our main actress started singing in French.
Yes.
Wasn't that cool?
That was very cool.
Friday, it almost turned into a musical, man.
No, it did.
That's for us you didn't tap out.
All right, y'all ready to piece out so we can move on to our next project?
Yeah, if we haven't convinced you yet, go check out, talk to me.
definitely one of the best of the year.
Like I said, I can't give it the best modern day
horror classic of the past 10 years, but it's pretty
fucking good. That's saying a lot.
Yeah. Maybe if you think about it more, we'll see.
Yeah, and Philip, go see it in the theater, man.
Yeah, I may have to go check it out in the theater.
It should be done early tomorrow. Maybe I'll make that happen.
All right. Well, it should be around for a few weeks
because it got pretty good box office numbers, I think.
Yeah, make sure you catch it
because I probably could have brought up
news insidious. The new one's
already the highest grossing in the franchise
and it's now on VOD already.
Oh, wow. That was quick.
So the theater turnarounds are fast.
No kidding.
Then we watched that like last week.
It kind of seems like
if it bombs
or if it makes a lot of money,
money really fast, they're going to put it on streaming.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If you capitalize on, yeah, home purchases, that makes sense.
Like, like the Barbie movie's about to hit like a billion dollars.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's going to be available streaming in here in like a couple
weeks.
It'll probably.
Fill up.
Give it a couple of weeks.
It'll be on the cock.
There you go.
Hey, Nez saw the Barbie movie.
He said it's pretty fucking good.
I want to see it, man.
I've heard good things.
I've heard a lot.
That is definitely adult humor.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well.
And I heard Ryan feels it as Ken.
Yeah, but there's several Kins, right?
And several Barbies.
Yeah, and they're going to beat each other off.
You're going to have a beach off.
All right.
