Regings victims, for those of you who delight and dread, who fantasize about fear, who glorify gore, welcome.
You have found the place where the horror returns.
Listeners beware, this podcast contains major plot spoilers, and the foulest,
of language.
Join us in celebrating the old and the new,
the best, and the worst in horror.
To the horror returns, I'm Lance, and with me as always
are my co-host, Philip and Brian.
How's it going, guys?
It is going.
Ola.
All right.
Yeah, I think Nez might pop in.
Let's hope.
I know he's working, but we'll see how that goes.
Yeah, he is.
He had a comment in the group about our scores for terror firmer.
Okay.
Does he like a fucking terrible movie?
I believe his comment,
You Fools Are Cells Are
10 out of 10?
Are you serious?
Let's talk about that now.
I didn't see that one, Brian.
Enlighten us, man.
It was, for me, personally,
it was too much.
That's what I thought.
It was like everything you thought of trauma on steroids times 100 thrown into one movie.
Nothing wrong with that, right?
No, it just, it didn't hit for me.
I mean, if somebody, if the next person likes it, like a film, I think you and me were kind of same on our scores,
but if you would have gave it like a 7 out of 10, then hey, it's what it is.
I didn't say it was the worst piece of trash ever.
It's too much for me.
it was just like
overkill on everything
it was like all right
let's make it
as sexual as possible
and as gross as possible
and as stupid as possible
and as campy as possible
it's like
come on man
I know
make a good movie
it's like
if they thought of something
like
what is something that's going to shock somebody
and then somebody would give a suggestion
and they were like yeah
but let's like
Let's times it by 100.
Right.
And put some dicks in it.
Yeah.
Flopping dicks.
Okay.
What about a guy eating shit?
You should put that in there, too.
Let's keep cutting to him eating shit because he doesn't realize he's eating shit until the fifth bite.
Yeah, you'd think you'd taste that.
Although it sounds like they actually put some in there and he kept going anyway.
No, he was all in.
I mean, he was like, I'll do anything for trauma.
Oh, no doubt.
Yeah.
Yeah, they said, here, just snort some of this.
You'll be okay, right?
Yeah.
All right.
Hey, I'm jumping into Cool of the Week first.
Is that, is that all right?
Yeah.
Well, there's two movies I hope you talk about.
Yes.
You've been to the theater twice in the past couple weeks.
Okay.
We have plenty to talk about.
All right.
I'm interested in both of them.
Okay.
Let's circle back to that.
I got to throw some love to a series of books that I swore I would never read,
but we were talking about Universal Theme Park earlier.
And I figure if I'm going to go out there and I'm going to have the annual pass
and immerse myself in that every couple of weeks, I'm going to, for fuck's sake,
I've got to at least read the Harry Potter series.
Finally, I fought it tooth and nail, and I finally read, I bought the seven books.
I bought the seven book series, Brian?
I mean, it's popular for a reason.
well I finally read the first book and I fucking loved it
it's awesome so I'm gonna throw some love and get this out of the way I'm gonna throw
some love to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone are as it's called in the
UK I think they call it Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
yeah they renamed it sorcerers for some reason but great character development
great writing why did they do that I have no idea what a philosopher is or something
yeah they probably think Americans are stupid what do you think
I don't know
Why don't you go out
Some more rocks, motherfucker?
I got a
I got to throw some love though
About all seven books
I've read the first one
I can't wait to dive into some more
So I get that other way quick
So y'all take over
And I'm sure I'll talk about some more stuff
All right
I'll jump in
Okay
I've continued my
80s viewing with my daughter
Since we last week
we watched a bunch of Christian Slater movies.
We watched another one.
Nice.
Gleaming the cube, the skateboard one that he was in,
where he's trying to solve the death of his brother.
I have no idea what that is.
He's using his skateboard skills to solve.
It's a classic.
She didn't really dig it as much.
I think the big shock she got out of because a young Tony Hawk is in it.
He's one of Christian Slater's friend.
friends, but she's used to what he looks like now is what's in her mind.
Young like how young?
Like probably 19, 20.
Pretty young.
Around that age.
Because he get to see, I think he was like early teens.
So we checked that out and then wanted to show her something a little bit different.
So I showed her better off dead with John Kewside.
Oh, yes, I want my $2.
$2.
That is a classic.
So where his girlfriend breaks up with him and majority of the movie, he's trying to kill himself.
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
Yeah.
Line Myers, the guy's driving the car, racing him all the time.
Oh, the Howard CoSell?
Yes.
That's a great movie, man.
And boogers in it.
Bugger's in it.
Oh, nice.
She had a interesting comment about him.
because after the scenes of him snorting jello and then snorting snow,
she was like, why don't somebody just get him some real drugs at this point?
But I think the movie was too much for her because she was just looked at me.
She was like, is this what the 80s were?
Because it was just so much thrown into this movie.
Yeah, like, hey, sorry your mom blew up like that.
And then something that I've never known.
noticed, but the guy that plays that lady's son, the one that gets blown up, is that creepy
dude from Nickelodeon, the guy that the executive guy or whatever.
No.
The head of the class?
The head set guy?
Yeah, because I was just like, I'm rewatching it.
Uh-oh.
And I'm like, he looks familiar to me.
Let me see what other books he's done.
That's problematic.
That's problematic.
And then his, yeah, and then his picture pops up on Wikipedia what he looks like now.
And I was like, that guy.
Uh-oh.
Although, to be fair, I think he was the less of the rapy one and more of the asshole one.
And then, like, he just hired some rapy ones.
So that's okay then, right?
Well, no.
He was the enabler.
There's a love to.
So that was it for the 80s viewings.
And now I'm now moving on to the three new movies.
I checked out.
All right.
Here we go.
First we had, this is just a family movie that I recommend.
The family came over and we watched If, starring Ryan Reynolds.
Okay.
Directed by John Cresensky.
Yeah.
I watched it a little bit.
Yeah, it's decent.
It made me, and my daughter's mom recommend her watch, what's it called?
The Sixth Sense?
No, the imaginary friend movie from back.
Drop Dead Fred.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, okay.
Love Drop Dead Fred.
Yeah, so I thought it was a decent movie, but it did make me think of that movie, so we're
probably going to watch that Drop Dead Fred sometimes this week.
Good call.
But if it was a decent little family movie, though, not really for me.
Yeah, it wasn't like, because, you know, there's some, like, animated movies that are really good.
Yeah.
Sure.
Like, I'm a little excited about the new movie.
Despicable Me even though the last one wasn't awesome I really want to see that one but our first
Despicable Me was great I actually I enjoy all this despicable me movies I had not so much the
minions I think it's the minions movies that took me out of it because they were kind of dumb really
yeah yeah I like the one where they deflated the pyramid or whatever remember that one
I think it was the first one right I did Steve Carell voice to my kid
whenever, like when they
were, because they were real small
at the time and they cracked up, it was
grew, right?
Yeah.
You guys don't realize how bad
my impressions are yet.
My second movie,
I know.
My second movie I checked out
was
Furiosa.
Oh, cool.
Way too fucking long.
Oh, you should have seen it on the big screen, man.
I think I would have been even more pissed off if I sat and watched it.
Because at home, I was able to pause it and go make something to eat.
Do your business?
Okay.
It's a good movie.
I did have a little problem with some CGI moments, but I understand they made the movie in a quicker fashion than the original one,
which I heard the production for the previous one was a complete nightmare.
right so I give them that great storytelling it's just not enough action for me because the
the previous one with Tom Hardy is just yeah the action starts like within five or ten
minutes of the movie and then it's just going for the entire movie well and it's also a
mad max movie with no mad max yeah yeah and it does take a long time to develop the story yeah
i'll give you that brine and i tell the joy she did a fantastic
job as Furiosa.
It's just my problem
it took so long to get to
Anya Taylor Joy because they started out
at Young Furiosa and just kind of go through
the years. Then when you
get there it's like half the
movie is already passed.
See, I think if you're
going to really flesh out all the characters
like that, that seems like more of a
TV series thing.
That's on the way, right?
Isn't that the next project, Brian?
Yeah. Hopefully. I mean,
George Miller's like 80 years old now, so I don't...
Ah, he might...
He might go the way of George R.R. Martin and never finish those books, right?
I picked the one up off of somebody's shelf because it said like, George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones.
And I was like, what the what is this? Is this a new one?
And I think it was the House of the Dragon thing that he did.
Yes, yeah. Fire and Blood.
He's just not writing that book, is he?
I don't think it's going to happen.
I don't think it's got...
I think somebody should ghost write it.
I always said that.
Because every time I hear his name pop up, I'm like,
I click on him.
It was like, oh, he's finally going to write this book.
Yeah, click on me.
And then it's about him executive producing some show or something.
Yeah.
Well, it's probably a whole lot easier than trying to sit down
and come up with a whole fucking planet off the top of your head.
Yeah, but the sad thing is he's apparently like more than three-fourths of the way through the book.
Just finish the fucking book.
Or cut it short.
and throw the rest of it in the last book or something,
let your, you know, legacy people write it.
I don't know.
I think maybe had they held off on the series,
I bet you he would have kept writing it.
I think so, yeah.
Maybe what he wrote is not good,
and he knows if he puts it out, it's going to just.
That's not good.
I don't want to think about that, is.
It can't be worse.
All right, my last movie is a movie I missed
on a review that we did a few weeks ago.
Okay.
Keep going.
All right.
I checked out In a Violent Nature.
Yes.
Is it out there yet?
Yes, it is.
Okay.
That was going to be my net's search.
Glorious HD.
Nice.
Nine on ten.
Nine on ten.
Yes.
I wanted to love this movie so much.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
I just ended up liking it.
Let me give you my synopsis of the movie.
Okay.
Walk.
Walk.
Walk.
I've heard this before.
Off screen kill.
Walk.
Well, that's what adds up to the beauty of the on screen kills, though, man.
Come on.
Wait, wait.
There's more.
Walk.
Walk.
Walk.
Walk.
Walk.
On screen.
Off screen kill.
Walk.
Walk.
Walk.
Walk.
Amazing kill.
The yoga scene.
Amazing.
And then after that, walk, walk.
I never thought I would get tired.
of hearing the sound of somebody
walking on grass
but for
an independent movie
I'm sure the budget
was low for it they did an amazing
job and the practical for the
kills were amazing
some of the dialogue was kind of
what it was because
there was a scene
they were all sitting around a campfire
and I was like people don't talk like this
to each other
but
I do recommend it
just for the yoga
kill scene alone because
when it happened
I was like is that it?
But then it just kept
going and I was like
okay where are we going here
and then it just kept going and I was just like
wow that's something
that I haven't seen in the movie so
I will still definitely watching it
oh and Lance what the fuck
was going on with the last 20 30 minutes
of the movie. What was that?
I don't, don't give it away.
But that was my favorite part, man, the misdirection.
I thought we were headed for another, like that ending you get with the House of a
thousand corpses.
We're like, she's, oh, God, I'm saved.
They're driving me away.
And then, you know, Otis pops up in the back of the car.
I thought that's where we were headed.
And the fact they didn't do that, to me, was genius.
They, like, completely subverted your expectations.
That's true, because a lot of them do now.
But taking almost 30 minutes to do it,
Yeah. I don't know, man. It's, you know, art is in the eye of the beholder, right?
They just traded walking for riding in the truck.
I still enjoyed it, though. I know.
We're like, we don't have a whole lot of movie here. How do we fill up the screen time?
I know it sounds like I'm being super critical of it, but I, at the end of the day, I still enjoyed it, though.
I'm still excited about it. I'll watch it.
Yeah, got to check it out, man. Make your own decision.
Nez, can you hear us?
is on mute. Hold on, hold on. Oh, all right. We're halfway there. All right, well, I'll jump
in my cool of the week real quick. We did do if I fell asleep in the middle of it, so I didn't
finish watching that. We had some family down, so I didn't get a chance to watch a whole lot.
But we went back and rewatched Predators with, uh, okay. Was it, that's the name, Adrian?
Brody. Yeah. That's a good, that's a good one. I think that one's underrated. It was pretty fun.
Yeah, it was like probably the best of the newer ones aside from prey.
And I had a pretty good time with it.
And I would jump in and throw an Arnold impersonation in halfway through the movie.
Because they kept like talking about him.
And like, he jumps up covered in mud.
And he was like, that's because he doesn't have a lot of mud to cover.
He's so skinny and puny with his tiny body.
but I had a great time with it
the CGI predator I had a little bit of a hard time with
I felt like they could have done that
little cheesy huh yeah I'm like man you've got the
practical effects one who's right there
and he's like moving the manholes and all that stuff
and looks cool as shit and then they do this like crazy
CGI predator with like crack eyes
and uh I don't know what I did I did like that they
let you know that there's like
different little groups
of predators that don't
fuck with each other.
Predator Civil War thing going on
or something.
It was pretty cool though.
But yeah, that was, and I remember
when that one came out, because that was the first
good predator movie in a while.
Yes, it was. Yes, it was.
It was a lot of fun.
Even my mom who hates horror
movies, but she does
watch a lot of campy
sci-fi bullshit.
it.
But she loved this one.
And she'd never seen it before.
I think it qualifies, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, a little bit.
So it was like, you know, there's monsters, but it's not that scary.
Yes, yes.
I do wish, though, we could have seen Danny Treo in some action, though.
I know.
They killed him off quick, man.
Wow.
Like, come on.
He probably had 12 other movies to film that week.
that's probably true he's he's got a little bit of that samuel jackson thing going on huh oh yeah yeah
he just pops up and everything and that's all i got man that's it predators all right cool that's a good one
i was out of town the last couple weekends i went to sinister creature con in sacramento that was cool
got to talk to my girl
Felissa Rose for a while.
Lucky.
Met that kid,
Andy, from child's play.
Did he make you buy a note of crap?
No, he was cool.
He was cool.
He took a picture.
That was cool.
What's his name?
Johnny Rico from Starship Troopers.
Casper Van Dean.
Yeah, that guy's got a lot.
Boy, you pulled that name off top of your head.
No kidding.
He was in and out of his seat.
I can't remember.
He said he had ADHD or something.
He said he had some kind of disorder,
but he was just, yeah, he was happy to be there,
happy to meet everybody.
And he had all kinds of stories about all the movies he was in.
So that was pretty sweet.
But man, was it hot in there?
They didn't have the AC.
No, AC.
They just had fans.
Uh-oh.
And that stuck.
We're sitting in the panel.
Oh, Shawnee Smith.
She had her saw panel, so sat through all that.
That was cool.
That kind of got me juice to rewatch all the movies,
because I haven't seen them forever.
I just finished jigsaw.
And that was like watching it for the first time again,
because the only part I remember was the laser collar at the end.
I don't know.
I was just, like, completely just did not remember.
who was in it or anything.
I vaguely remember
the laser collar.
Which one was Jigsaw? That wasn't the
latest one. No.
It was like three movies back.
Oh, the pre-cool one. Yeah, I didn't
mind that one. I'm going to watch
the fire roll tonight and then
Saw X. I need to go pick it up.
I haven't picked it up yet.
Oh, then over
this past weekend, my son
and I, we went to Phoenix and we went to
Days of the Dead. That was
really cool. One of the
police officer
that was in on it and saw,
I can't remember his actor's name, but
he was there. And we sat in his panel. He had a lot of
stories to talk about Saw and all
the other movies he was in.
Oh, Costas Mandelor.
That's the one. Yeah.
I met
Mark. Our brain's working today.
Okay.
Some
obscure ass names.
One of our, one of our,
of our brains is working.
I met Ragman from
Kick or Treat, Skippy from Family
Ties. It was cool.
And I met
Courtney Gaines
and I think his name was
Jonathan Franklin.
Isaac and Malachi.
I met those two guys.
Okay.
They were hella cool.
Oh, bad, yeah.
I talked to Bam, Margera for a minute.
He was still alive?
I thought he died of a drug overdose or something.
No, man.
He's doing better, man.
He has his issues, man.
But he's, he looked better than the last time I saw him.
So I kind of talked to him and just, hey, man, I'm glad you're feeling better.
Hopefully, he can reconcile with his baby's mama and all that.
But he was cool.
It was cool to talk to him really quick.
But, man, I don't know.
Any Arizona listeners in the Phoenix area, I don't know how you guys.
do it because it was hot as
fuck down there. Oh,
my God. It was too hot.
My son lived there. I don't
know how he does it. He does it.
We went to the, my cool of the week
is we went to the Arizona
Diamondbacks game.
The A's, while I'm still an A's
fan. And we beat that ass
9 to 4.
That was cool.
And
my son works at some
growing place where they grow all the
weed man I've been around weed and all that
my whole life seeing it in the street and all that
but dude going into that place that's like
the most weed I've ever seen in my life
in one place that was crazy on he showed me
all the stuff that they do and how they
grow it and do this and do that I was
that was like damn that's crazy
dude those weed nerds are like scientists
yeah dude all the stuff he was telling me
I was over my head
I was just buying it from the guy in the park.
Seeds and stems, huh?
Yeah, when the struggle was real.
So all you guys are lucky today, you can walk into a store and buy it.
Your dad didn't worry about him selling you oregano.
I've been sold oregano before.
We also got some shitty Spider-Man movies back in the day, right, Nez?
That shitty-ass Captain America, that Roger Corman one?
where he was on the motorcycle
talking about with the costume
with the fake ears
yeah
but I mean yeah
those are my cool of the weeks
the past couple weekends
going to horror conventions
and meeting all kinds of fans
and everything so
that was awesome
oh this new
any of the Reno
Sparks area there's a
new horror theme store
called Terror
I think it's called Terror Reno
or something like that
They opened it up and went to that grand opening.
That was really cool.
A bunch of collectible in there.
A bunch of just collectible stuff.
And they had an exorcist room.
Oh, wow.
Reagan's sitting in a bed.
And there's, like a whole little little play place.
It was cool.
You got to dodge.
I think that's about all I've done the past couple weeks.
That's a lot.
want to listen to action and stream fiends and wrestling we'll get to it there was a big fire in
uh in california and knocked out of our power so we were out of power for a couple days but my wife
just told me it came back on so briah we can you can get back at it all right yeah we we got to do
wrestling again because we're about to be too behind again i know another another event this weekend
i'm not going anywhere for the next couple weeks until i go to san diego comic con so all right you're
But really quick, before I get out of here,
because I'm still at work.
I got to jump back in there.
Oh, I suck.
So you guys did last week, the trauma stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let's hear it.
Let's hear it.
That one on 10 movie niz?
Kabuki man was okay.
I'd probably give it like about a four.
Here we go.
Here we go.
Erfirmer, dude.
That movie was fucking awesome.
That was a 10.
all the way. Maybe did you see.
But okay, dude, how old were you when you
first saw it? What I
loved about it was all the practical
I loved the
goofiness of Uncle Lloyd. He's amazing.
Oh yeah. He was great.
The blind director, right?
Why was he in mind? It didn't even know.
What do you expect?
Except when he's on everybody
at the beginning, which was funny, it didn't
serve any purpose. Right.
Just accept it, Philip. Just
accept it. There's so much bullshit and craziness in all trauma movies. So, I mean,
right? He like, he like went way over the top. I mean, my favorite trauma movie is the first
movie that introduced me to trauma, which was Toxic Avenger. And from then on, I started watching
as much as I could. There's some that I can do without. But this one, when that one came out,
I was like, all right, Lloyd Kaufman directed it. Let me watch it. I watched it when it first came out.
So I was like, all right,
Terra firmer,
maybe we'll get to see some
some tits and ass.
Oh, you did.
How old were you when it came out?
The pickle scene was awesome.
He's like an answer to the director,
I'll get it to the fat guy
for running naked down the street
because I don't care how much money
you give.
Props, right?
Yeah.
The balls, the little balls on that guy.
the killer dude
his dad
Ron Jeremy that was
that was crazy but just everything about
I mean the story's stupid and it's trauma
you expect stupidity
you expect off the wall blood and guts
and that's what we got so
I just I love this so much
I love the nonsense
of the whole film
I mean again trauma it's hit and miss
it's not everybody's bag
but I just thought it was an
awesome film. I loved it. I have
I think I have a few copies
of it on DVD. I don't know if it's on
Blu-Rey yet. That guy
got his head cut off and then he
started like eating it. I was like
what is happening?
But I know I bought one
from a video store that was closing
and the cover all kind of beat up but I just wanted the movie
because I live out in the sticks
and it's hard to come across stuff.
But I went to Comic-Con one year
at the trauma booth and Lloyd was there
so I bought it again
and then he signed it so I got that in my
collection. Oh, that's cool.
If it's on Blu-ray, I'll check
this year at Comic-Con.
If it is, of course, I'll buy it. It is on Blueberry.
All right, well, I'll buy a third copy.
I need to get
Citizen Toxy. I don't have that one
in my Toxic Avenger collection.
Every year I go to Comic-Con,
I always buy at least one movie
from them.
You didn't get to Ford.
collection of toxic?
As soon as I get a 4K player, then maybe I'll get it.
Because some of these
some of these steelbooks are killing me, man. Usually they have the
4K and the Blu-ray together.
The last couple have just been 4K and I don't have a player yet.
But I'm going to get one.
So I have to do those. But as soon as I get a player, I'll
buy that set. But I'm stick to Blu-ray for now
until I get one.
Nothing else going on.
Just work.
Any holiday travelers,
if you bring a lot of stuff,
put it in two bags.
Don't try to pack it in one.
You're going to get added to wherever your final stop is
and your bag's going to be busted open
because you were too lazy to put all this stuff into another bag.
Public service announcement.
Yeah, every holiday season fools jammed too much
in one bag and the zippers can't handle it.
So just letting you guys know, please.
I know some airlines charge for bags,
but if you want all your stuff to get there,
please put it in two because I'm tired of picking your shit up all off the floor.
Fair enough.
Did you see the new Quiet Place movie?
Oh, no, not yet.
Okay.
Okay.
It is no good, but I'll see it still.
All right.
I just wanted to come in and talk about Terra Furman real fast.
All right, crew.
I'm out of here.
I'll talk to you guys later.
All right, man.
All right, Brian, on that note.
It's because he was a kid, man.
He just wanted to see boots.
I know.
You got any headlines, Brian?
Yeah, we're going to start with.
There's going to be a remake of 1985's Enemy Mine.
Okay.
And this is going to be no director yet,
but it's going to be written by Star Trek
McCart showrunner Terry
Matillas.
I think that's how you pronounce his name.
I like the Picard shows, so I'm sure it's going to be good.
Yeah, I don't hate the idea of remaking a movie like that.
Yeah, that was, what was it, Lewis Gossett Jr.
And who was the other?
Dennis Quaid.
Dennis Quaid, that's right.
That's a good movie, man.
I saw that in the theater like six times.
If you're around Dennis Quaid,
And that movie, don't ever disrespect Mickey Mouse.
Okay, we talked about the next Monsterverse movie, got its director.
Well, now it's got a release date, March 26, 2027.
All right.
Let's see.
I don't know if there was a lot of news.
Kind of scrolling here.
Just as Lance gets up, I've got some Walking Dead.
Darrell Dixon show news.
The second season gets a September 29th
release date this year.
They're still going, huh?
Yeah, I don't get
the title.
It's called The Walking Dead
Darrell Dixon, the Book of Carol.
I guess the second season
of Darrell Dixon show is going to feature
heavily on Carol.
The Book of Carol. Come on.
What are we doing?
So my wife was
watching the
Rick and
Michon show
and she was having
a hard time
getting into it
because Rick
is like
super fucking whiny
in that one
I don't know
man
Walking Dead's
kind of lost
its edge
yeah I remember
Rick when he
was biting
people's throats out
and
yeah
like we got
maniac Rick
and now we have
like big weanie wit
Rick
uh let's see
another
cast
for showtime's Dexter
Original Sin, the Dexter
prequel series, Sarah
Michelle Geller, Buffy
herself.
I hadn't seen her in a while.
What did she do recently?
Oh, she was in a
spinoff show of the
Teen Wolf Show, called the
Wolfpack. Oh.
But I think I got canceled.
Man,
I really figured
she'd go on to some bigger and better
things.
instead of just sticking with the
WB TV series
the Welcome to Dairy show
we talked about
Bill Scarsgar coming back to
Stars Pennywise
they've changed it
it's not going to be a Mac show
it's they re-labeled it
an HBO show
so that
kind of sounds like good news for me
because a lot of their
main shows like Game of Thrones
and
Sopranos. Those are HBO
Originals. Oh, yeah.
Yeah, and I haven't
I haven't watched the second episode of House
of Dragons yet, but I did watch the first
one. It just sucks that they waited
so long to come out with
the second series, but
I'm pretty sure I'll get back into it.
I kind of forgot everything it happened, and so I'm not
to it as some of these people are.
That's the episode I'm thinking. I heard there was some disappointment
because it was supposed to be like the red wedding episode for House of Dragon.
I'm supposed to have that kind of impact.
And then I guess people were upset.
What happened in the book was more intense than what happened in the episode.
I haven't seen it.
That's just what I heard.
Yeah, I'm behind.
Don't spoil it.
That's what I was saying.
I haven't seen the second episode.
I watched the first one.
Ben Helsing TV show in development at CBS.
No idea if this is just a new thing or I hope it has nothing to do with that Hugh Jackman one.
Oh, bold.
You guys remember that one?
They'll probably show up in Deadpool.
We'll probably kill him, right?
Van Helsing is a cool fucking character.
I don't know why they haven't done this right yet.
Van Helsing.
Hey, he's got gold.
The guy kills monsters, man.
Let's see here.
I think that might be it
because I think we talked about
there was something interesting that popped up recently
it had to do with the
you remember when we reviewed
Return to the Living Dead 3
vaguely sure
Sort of
I tried to start the spreadsheet
I didn't I didn't
I was like this is too big of a task
Brian
Has Melinda Clark in it
She turns into sexy zombie
Oh yes
Yes yes yes
She had the glass
the glass sticking out of her
arms and okay, yes, I do remember that.
That's what I had to say, sexy zombie.
I'm like, oh, yeah.
You got it.
The director of that movie
has just found
the lost first cut of the movie
containing unseen footage
that not even the director's cut has.
Oh, okay.
So.
Well, that sounds like marketing ploy.
So I'll keep everybody
posted. Looks like there'll probably
be a
unrated cut of that movie coming with
the extra gore and extra
craziness.
Yeah, like you brought up Lance. She was
sticking needles
and stuff because of what was in that movie?
The pain helped the hunger go away.
Something like that.
Vaguely remember.
Yeah. Very, very Clive Barkerish.
Yeah, then she came out with
looking all
cut up and oddly sexy at the
same time.
Clyde Barker's probably into some weird shit.
Pretty good guess.
I want to see if there's anything else.
No, that's it.
Okay.
Well, that's cool because we've got three trailers to talk about.
So you guys ready to go down to the trailer part?
Yep.
Yeah.
All right, Brian.
Go for it, man.
Bring us the big, the small.
And sometimes they're very, very weird.
What's the first two trailer tonight?
I thought I'd bring you guys a variety of different trailers.
And we appreciate it.
The first one is something that just the trailer drop, nobody knew anything about it.
There's not even a synopsis for her.
Okay.
Oh, wait, they just updated the synopsis.
A day later, it is a synopsis for Bando Stone and the New World.
An apocalyptic action movie directed and starring.
Donald Glover, which he's also doing the soundtrack for her.
Yeah, I was about to say, I thought he was credited as childish Gambino in this one, man.
Well, they got him on IMDB as Donald Glover.
Okay.
The synopsis, Donald Glover as Bandol Stone, a famous musician navigating a world,
amphithea people. He meets a woman and her child, and together they journey through a dystopian,
post-apocalyptic world.
Looks great.
I mean, it looks like what lost probably should have been.
The guy's artist, for sure.
Yeah.
I mean, it's kind of weird to, like, direct and start in and do the soundtrack and all that to your own movie.
Like, you know, much, maybe.
Kind of Rob zombieish, maybe.
Yeah, I think they call those vanity projects.
Yeah.
Could be.
Could be.
But he looks really good in it, man.
And I love the way that he's kind of like a nerdy.
like he's like a nerdy musician
he's like perhaps you know my music
oh you don't
I'm curious about
I'm curious about how the trailer
started because it's like he didn't even know
what was going on and he has this kind of
scraggly beard
yeah
like the walking his beard like the walking dead
huh yeah
I'm all in
I'm all in looks looks good to me
looks like fun
trying to see
if there's a release date.
Oh, no, no release date yet,
because it is currently in production.
What we saw was a teaser for what they have filmed.
Okay, and maybe, maybe totally different from what we saw.
That's a weird one to put a teaser out for it.
Right?
a lot about this is a mystery.
So, but yeah, I'm in.
I like Donald Glover.
Yeah.
He seems like a pretty cool dude.
So you can have the,
maybe the next movie will be the Adventures of Lando and Bando.
And he could play both,
he could play both parts.
He probably would.
He's going to put on makeup like the Eddie Murphy movie.
All right.
Right. On second trailer is another A24 horror thriller titled Heretic.
This is written and directed by Scott Beck and Brian Woods,
and I believe we've seen something they've done.
Because those names are very...
They wrote The Quiet Place, the first one.
Hmm. Okay.
And they also wrote that movie Haunt that we reviewed for kids' holidays.
Halloween show, which probably shouldn't for most kids.
The three different masks, right?
Like the devil and, yeah.
It was a good baby.
See if they directed anything.
They have directed, oh, they directed Hunt also.
Okay.
They directed a 65 with Adam Driver, which wasn't a great movie, but it wasn't bad either.
Yeah, I didn't hate it.
I had a pretty good time to 65.
It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, but it was fun.
Kind of so-so, right?
Yeah.
Let's see.
The stars, Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher.
That's who she is.
She's from Yellow Jackets.
Oh, okay, okay.
Gotcha.
Chloe East, Ellie McKinnon,
a bunch of other people we didn't even see in the trailer.
Yeah.
I am curious.
curious about it.
At this point, you kind of had me
with Hugh Grant, dude. He's been killing
it and everything. Yeah, he has.
The Oompa Lumpur himself, huh?
Yeah, he'll pop in as like this
terseery character and just
chew up scenery, man. Hugh Grant
is kicking ass.
That scene with the
candle, it really
reminded me at M. Knight-Sharmulon,
like something you'd see in the movie.
Okay. Now, the guys,
They invited them in because he says his wife's making pie.
He's going to go check on the pie.
And then the girl looks down and it's a scented candle.
It's a blueberry pie, scented candle.
And the way the camera is like up close to her face.
Kind of gave me M-night vibes the way it was shot.
But the whole thing with the maze in the basement has me very curious on what's going on.
Yeah, looks interesting.
Yeah, Hugh Grant looks definitely creepy as fuck.
Anytime you've got these fucking irritating kids that are knocking on your door saying,
have you known about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
This is the movie that shows you what happens when somebody lets them end.
Well, I won't say it.
Let's just say that I won't feel too bad for them if bad things happen.
You kind of brought it on yourselves.
Yeah, fuck those kids.
They believe in Jesus.
let's see synopsis
now I didn't say that hold on
you're really going to get us kicked off
synopsis
plot is under wraps
but rumored to follow two young
women of religion who are drawn into a game of
cat and mouse in a house of a strange
man oh that's very
very generic
it looks it looks good
it looks fun but I like the
the plot is under wraps and you can't
read the synopsis about it
very M-nightish very M-night right Philip well and the A24 thing you know I mean
they're they're real good at the RTE Mis direction thing I think this might be
awesome yeah and I'm calling it now A24 on their shop they like to sell like stuff from
the movies they're gonna show if this is a hit movie they're gonna sell a shitload of
those blueberry pies scented candles no down no down that one that doesn't sound bad
This comes to theaters
November 15th.
And moving on to the final trailer,
we got a new Hellboy.
Hellboy the Crooked Man.
Is this a different person?
Yes.
And Lance, you know this actor.
Okay.
Dang Don.
Jack Keezy?
Okay, you remember the show of Claws?
Of course.
And they had the main gangster guy, Uncle Daddy.
Is this roller?
Yes, it's Roller.
No!
Oh my God!
Roller as Snowboy.
Holy fuck!
There have been more people that have played Hellboy now than Batman.
It's official.
I'm saying.
Yeah.
This is directed by Brian Taylor,
and I believe there's some stuff that we recognize from him that he's worked on.
He is the writer and director of both Crank movies.
movies.
Okay.
That's some good shit.
Yeah.
And he wrote direct mom and dad.
Oh, yeah.
Love that one.
Oh, I think we're all in.
I think we're all in.
Now, it's pretty much a cast of unknowns as far as I'm concerned.
I don't recognize.
I think he was the only one I recognize.
Even better.
Even better.
What I do like about the trailer is it looks like they're leaning more into the horror
with this would be.
Yeah, definitely.
It looks more scaled back, not heavy on the CGI,
kind of relying more practicals and the story,
which I think that last one,
they just try to go too big.
Which is weird, because, like,
crank and mom and dad are, like,
there's some wild movies.
Yeah.
So it's Hellboy the Crooked Band.
Is this from the,
is this from the same,
universe is
conjuring?
I don't think so.
The same character
that they said there was a
crooked man, he had a crooked
remember that?
Remember they were supposed
to make movie of that
and they never did?
Could be the same mythology.
That's what I'm wondering.
That's what I'm wondering.
That's kind of...
They had the whole
Baba Yaga thing in the last one.
Yeah, the synopsis goes
Hellboy and a rookie
B-P-R-D agent
are stranded in
1950s world, so this is
a period piece.
Okay.
rural Appalachia and discover a small community
haunted by witches and led by the crooked man.
Hmm. Huh.
So I like the change in time period.
Yeah.
So, I mean, for me, this is kind of just hitting all the right notes for me.
When I heard they were doing another one, I was just kind of like, did we really need
another one?
Yeah.
Because people are immediately going to get pissed off because it's not Ron Perlman, which
I'm finding, I wish he would have got that third movie, but Ron Perlman's like almost 80 now.
Yeah, I was going to say he's pretty old.
Not a spring chicken, huh?
I'm not sure if he's going to pull off the action.
And I would have loved it also to see that third one, to see Guillermo do a third one.
But he's kind of like James Wan.
He likes Sonson to do a lot of projects and then doesn't do them.
Yeah.
He'll hear his name as producer of something.
So.
Maybe that's what it is.
Maybe they produce the ones that they're like, yeah, sure, I'll do that.
That sounds awesome.
And then they're like, I don't have time for this.
I can see that.
I can see that.
Yeah, I can see that.
All right.
Sounds like we're all kind of interested in some form or fashion with this one.
September's 19th this year.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
Yeah.
That's quick.
See, all right.
That's the kind of trailers I'm looking for.
Give me some shit that's going to come out in 2027.
I don't care.
2028.
Well, when we do our annual Comic-Con recap, those will be all the trailers coming in
2008.
Yeah.
All right.
That's it.
All right.
On to some listener feedback.
This week, we shine the podcast spotlight on Dark Night of the podcast.
Abid horror fans and filmmakers Troy Escamilla and Roger Connors have many opinions on the film.
Sorry if I mispronaged your name.
Tune in weekly to hear these two discuss and dissect some of horror genres most iconic,
over, most iconic, overlooked, and often underrated films.
All right.
Dark Night of the podcast.
Good name.
I've heard of this one.
I don't think I've ever listened to it, but I've heard of it.
And in regards to the deleted blow-up doll scene from The Thing.
Brian, that was the thing.
Don Lowry says one of the deleted scenes,
I wish they would have left in.
It was hilarious.
It was a completely different ending as well.
But they decided to do something else.
The original had the dog running again like in the beginning.
To where?
there can't be that many
ways in Antarctica
right yeah
oh well that's true
well it's an alien so
I
I don't know
I love like
the ending to the thing is
fucking brilliant
yeah it's classic
yeah leaves you guessing right
I that was perfect
since I heard that
you can tell by their eyes
which one's the thing at the end
I have not finished
I rewatched the thing like a couple
times every year
because it's my favorite movie of all time.
I never watched that scene since I heard that news because I don't want to know.
You don't want to know.
Well, you know, that's just somebody, that's just your opinion, man.
Well, it's also a theory.
You know, like, can you really tell?
That's what I'm wondering.
I think it came from one of the people that worked on the movie.
Damn, now it's got me thinking.
All right.
Because I don't know either.
Let's see.
to Lauren
Lavera.
Eddie Linville says
she was great and Terrifier 2
and she's awesome in person.
So, so nice.
Cool. That's awesome.
Looking her up on IMDV, she's actually
not only actress, she's a stunt woman too.
So in Terrify 2, that was her doing her own stunts.
Bonus points.
America Baba Yaga,
speaking of which, says
literally one of the best final
Girl's
spoilers
more so as of lately
I would have to agree
because the only other one that pops
in my head is Samarra Weaving
from Ready or Not
Yeah that was pretty great
For once that's not my dog barking in the back
I know I'm smart
fucking mad dude
He gets talkative
He likes Samara weaving
and uh yeah i've thrown melissa barra for uh scream and uh abigail okay uh and we got in regards to the watchers
uh jacky roy sodall says uh long and boring shaped shipping creatures come out at night ooh scary
i can see that yeah i was about to say easy
that line
rough stuff
rough stuff
in regards to
dr sleep
postino
says a surprisingly
good and scary movie
too bad it was a
complete bust
at the box office
was it though
I don't remember
that how it did
it was it was one of those
movies where
critically
it was
got good
reviews but
just people didn't
watch it in the theater
I think more people
watched it when it came out on blue ray
I can see that. Good movie though
yeah sorry
you got dogs on the pages in the background
uh in regards to
the exorcists
Eileen Dietz says uh wow
guys after all this time okay
I played Pizzou
the demon face that was all
shit oh wow okay
yeah I also just
just just real quick give some context
on this I posted a throwback scene
and I always put the
actor's name, I hashtag it at the bottom.
Okay. So people must have not seen her name in there because they were just like,
who's this, who's this? That's not Linda Blair. And so she's seen the post and I guess
had to set the record straight. Very nice. Damn, dude. We are flirting with success here.
I knew I knew that name because I knew this. Yeah. So yeah, she played the demon face.
And I also played the demon possessed that, I played the demon that possessed Regan, and I did all the fun scenes.
It was a principal part of not a stunt woman, not a double, not anything else.
It was the demon, the possessed Regan, and I've got proof.
I've been getting residuals since 1973, and the only principal actors get the residuals.
But thanks for the questions, and of course that is me in the makeup chair with Dick Smith.
Oh, wow.
Elaine, you don't have to provide receipts because the picture clearly sees you're in the makeup chair.
Yeah, no, I knew I'd heard that name before.
Well, and obviously they didn't have a 12-year-old girl stabbing herself in the stuff.
Elaine said she did all the fun scenes.
Yeah.
I wonder if she's listening.
I wonder if we could get her on the show.
That would be fantastic.
How fucking amazing would that be?
To a commentary of The Exorcist.
It's possible.
I think she does like the convention scenes and stuff like that.
So it's possible.
We could get some stories.
Speaking to which,
speaking to which,
if you guys haven't heard our interview with the mind-body spirit guys,
you might hear some things you didn't expect.
to hear as far as some of the
things that
that Alex
and Matt have done in their prior
lives, especially Alex.
So anyway, listen to that interview.
You'll hear some interesting stories.
Let's see.
And in regards to Patrick
Rea's horror
comedy, super happy, fun clown,
Patrick
he forwarded it and said thanks for the mention.
Brian Gunn,
G-G-U-I-N-N.
Sure.
Posted our Nightmare on Elm Street picture and commented.
Nightmare on Elm Street movie is the scariest movie of all time.
And True Story is the best score by Charles Bernstein and was a great idea.
And Wes Crazy Craven did a great job.
And Johnny and Heather and Robert were all great.
was a roller coaster and I suggest you watch it alone.
Hard to argue.
Get it.
Classic.
In regards to the Lost Boys.
I'm reading them like they come out, guys.
That's how it goes.
All right.
This is not me this time, I promise.
Brandon Jones says,
Alex Winter was one of the coolest of them all.
All he had to do was look cool and smile at every scene.
That's it, the cool guy.
Right.
He was the first one killed.
in that movie.
Yeah.
And Christopher Wells email this.
He says, I hope this finds you well.
My psychological thriller,
The Luring, was released
on Amazon and Tooby, and I thought
it might be of interest.
We shot it in Vermont in my family's
house that was being sold
and is inspired by the French short film
The Red Balloon from 1950s.
I can send you a proper
press release,
and,
the meantime, here's the website.
Yeah, please do.
The luring.com for your consideration.
Thanks.
Everybody go check it out.
Support independent horror.
Yeah, we'll jump on that.
But if you guys want to go check it out, man, that sounds pretty awesome.

It's a one-shot creature horror with some of the social commentary of the original Twilight Zone.

That was me.
And with a severed foot.
He races against blood loss and the deadly creature chasing him in the hopes of reaching the magical pond, which holds the key to his future.
Thank you for your time, Bruno.
I think, I think Brian is already all over it.
Posted it.
Everybody goes supported.

Yeah.
Very nice.
All right.
And finally, Lance wants to give a big shout out to Gideon's Bakehouse in Disney Springs with another location in Orlando.
The one pound, no, the two pound cookies.
Chocolate chip cookies.
Holy moly.
God, I can hear you getting better.
From owner and head baker's Steve Lewis, no press release.
I exist more in the shadows and a dark little secret for people.

It's an old hole in the wall

At least it used to be. I haven't been there in many years.
Give it a try and welcome to Florida.
All right. Thanks a lot, man.
Yeah, I choose
to shout out by getting more of the cookies.
Hell yeah.
And that's it for listener feedback this week.

And I guess we're still doing this.
If you join the $5 tier and stay at least three months, you get six coosies, a t-shirt, which is badass, and cost more than $5 a month for three months.
And a pop figurine.
They're actually really good t-shirts.
But the pop figurine also, that's pretty awesome.
We're just going to choose it for you based on what personality we think you have.
So that should be fun.
We, uh, we mailed, we mailed out three t-shirts today.
Awesome.
Nice.
The coosies are coming.
I just got to go all the way down to the post office to get them out, but they're coming.
The t-shirts are really nice, man.
I'm missing mine.
I don't know where the fuck it went.
Piss me off.
Uh, and on to our featured attractions.
Uh, it's Alien Week.
Uh, we talk about the newest Quiet Place movie and also the cult favorite.
attack the block, which I have never seen before until now.
You've never seen Attack the Block?
You were missing.
You're messing out, man.
I had no idea what it even was.
I thought it was like some gangster movie or something.
This was right up here, alley.
I'm going to guess.
I'm going to guess that this is right up here, alley.
We'll see.
I think I had only heard of it because it was like John Boyega's big breakout role or whatever.
Yeah.
I guess you'd say that.
Yeah.
And he's pretty young in this movie.
And, but yeah, no, I, like, I knew of it, but I,
I had never seen it and I had no idea that it was even about aliens.
What is that cause?
That's an alien bram, believe it.
When I landed in the wrong place, though you get me.
The wrong place.
You discovered a species, hitherto unknown to science.
He kicked his head in.
Yo, check it.
More.
What?
Them tings.
Lovely fireworks.
You mind me.
It's alien invasion.
Of course it is.
I'm killing them.
I'm killing them straight.
Let's get tall up, blood.
Quite sweet really, aren't they?
That looks triple desires, but right now,
we're like going home, locking my door, I'm playing FIFA.
What were those things?
I'm thinking probably aliens.
What kind of alien would invade some council state in South London?
One is looking for a fight.
The synopsis is a teen gang in South London
defends their block from an alien invasion.
Okay.
director and writer is Joe Cornish, also known for Ant Man.
Oh, well, there you go.
The filmmakers only use CG effects when absolutely necessary
and to enhance the practical effects for the creatures
rather than replace them completely. That makes sense.
Even the smaller female alien that appears before the credits
was a petite woman in a creature shoot.
Oh.
A puppet-type head was used for some of the attack shots
wherein Moses is suddenly bitten.
The creature's head was carefully constructed mask that had no eyes,
and even the glowing mouthful of large carnivorous teeth were attached by animatronics rather than
added in post.
The actors, rather than reacting to something that wasn't there, admitted that they were
genuinely and unexpectedly frightened by the look and movements of the creatures that were
actually present.
That's kind of cool.
I like it.
making fucking movies here.
That's what I'm talking about.
It's not a damn cartoon.
What are you doing?
Brian, you want to start us out?
What do you think about an attack block?
I love attack the block.
I've seen this many times.
Love the cast.
They're super fun.
Funny kids.
Even though I have to agree half the time,
I don't know what they're saying.
I know, dude.
Kind of caught me, huh?
That like British gangster slang is like, okay, first of all, it's hard enough to understand what you're saying.
And then even if I do understand what you're saying, I'm not really sure what you're saying.
Yeah, the context.
I thought everybody had their, it's a little crew of kids that are basically their own little gang running through the streets of what was the South London.
And I think they all got to shine.
different ways individually in the movie instead of just focusing on the main person which was john
boyega and i i do believe you're right philip i think this this was the movie he got noticed
from the most was uh attacked the block oh for sure um even the the the the rival guy
what was his name hi-hats that was always playing his always playing his own music in the background
no matter what scene it was he he made sure his music was playing i thought he was hilarious yeah uh
love the Nick Frost cameo.
Yeah.
The neighborhood drug dealer.
Yeah.
There was a little message in there that I felt was nice and it wasn't heavy-handed.
They didn't force it.
The look of the creature, the alien, I thought was fantastic.
Because I wouldn't even know what to even compare it to, especially with the glowing teeth,
I thought was super cool.
Because when you first see the glowing teeth.
somebody says look you can see his eyes and then someone's like I don't think those are its eyes and then it opens its mouth and you just see all the glowing sharp teeth I thought that was super cool and yeah I've loved this movie I rewatched it they are supposedly doing a sequel I think I read that John Boyega and Joe Cornish and some of the other people involved with the first one have been having meetings about what to do with the second one I was going to say I don't know what they're going to do with
They kind of wrapped it up pretty nicely.
Yeah.
Aliens can always come back, or they may have enemies that come back, right?
I think the meeting was basically, if they are going to do a second one, how is it going to work?
And, you know, I think they don't want to put out no bullshit.
So instead of just announcing we're doing it, they're just saying there's a possibility of a second one.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
All right.
That's all I got.
Yeah, it's, you blew me away, Philip, when you said it was low on the CGA.
I could have sworn those creatures were like all CGI.
Because if they were able to get that look, that otherworldly weird, like super dark,
like you couldn't, you couldn't see them.
Like they could sneak up on you until they open their mouth and then you could see the bright teeth.
And I was like, that's blacker than his cousin.
I was just thinking that's got to be all fucking.
I thought for sure.
Yeah, they had some chance.
to make jokes there for sure.
But I thought that that had to be all CGI.
It just looked like super animated.
So hats off on however they pulled that off.
But yeah, what I like about this movie is, yeah,
you kind of have like the neighborhood
and you had the kids that were sort of like not too close to each other at first,
but by the time they had this outside enemy attacking them,
they all learn how to work together and be closer together.
And like Brian said, there's like a really good message.
It's not like overbearing.
It's not heavy-handed.
And it's just like...
Real quick, I'd like that they were kids
because they were super hard acting
when they were out on the streets,
but when they went home to get their weapons
in front of their parents,
the tone and everything quickly changed up.
It was for real.
I do guys said they were in the assholes
because they like robbed a lady
at the very beginning of the booth.
Yeah.
Well, they weren't as...
Look, okay, in their defense, Philip,
they weren't as bad as those fucking punks
in that movie we watched
a couple of weeks ago with watchers
unwelcome.
They weren't as bad as those punks, thank God.
Yeah.
No, they all had redeeming qualities,
which was cool. And the way they all
kind of joined forces at the end there
and defeated the enemy
from outside. It was just,
it was very heartwarming.
It was a great movie.
I don't want to say too much
because like you said, Philip, you saw it for
the first time. I don't want to give away too many, you know, like movie magic moments that
happened in this thing. But man, if they were able to pull this off on that kind of a budget without
using a lot of CGI, that's, yeah, that's commendable. That's commendable. It was a fun movie. I can't
wait to see a sequel. I think what they should do is, you know, kind of like alien versus predator
type thing where they should have another species of alien show up this like hunting down those
aliens, that would be cool.
Oh.
But, you know, we'll leave it up to Cornish and see what they do, but
I don't have a lot of bad things to say, but maybe it was fun.
Yeah, it was definitely a lot of fun.
I did have mixed feelings about the kids, because, I mean,
you know, they were pretty awesome towards the middle of the movie and stuff,
and they were still doing it, but they were still trying to act all hard to this lady
after they just broke into her apartment, after they robbed her and then broke into her apartment.
They're like, bitch, what the fuck?
Like, what? You're in my motherfucking house.
Yeah, it's part of the persona that they have to feel like they can, you know, put out there on the streets.
And plus that you can tell they have a thing against authority and adults.
Yeah.
That are not their parents.
Because like I said, when they came home, it was like, yes, ma'am, no ma'am.
Yeah, those parents are doing a great fucking job with their 14-year-olds running around the fucking streets robbing people.
but it was it almost had like this guy
reachy kind of feel to it where they had the cockney
gangster like thugs like it was a little hard to understand it
first it took me a minute to get into it but I had a really
good time I think everybody did a great job in this movie
love the special effects I liked that I don't
understand why
that guy kept trying to kill John Boyega
when there's like aliens chasing everybody
Yeah, it's your priority straight, right?
Like he'd already seen him.
One of them had already attacked one of his goons
And he was like convinced it was a dog
That was sent by these kids.
And I was like, what are you doing?
You got bigger problems, man.
But yeah, I had a lot of fun with this movie
More than I expected.
it was it was a blast man it was it was really had like the perfect amount of comedy in there the perfect
amount of action um everybody was kind of redeemable you know like i think the the ending was pretty
awesome uh i i kind of loved it it was a great movie
like i had a really good time watching this man i totally unexpected all right
They were kind of still flying in the face of the cops right to the bitter end, weren't they?
Yeah, cops come in and the wall, and they don't know about the,
I guess they don't know about the aliens or something.
I guess.
Maybe it was a cover-up, Philip.
Even though there's people with, like, throats ripped out laying on the ground.
I know.
I never thought about it.
Maybe it was a conspiracy.
Maybe.
I don't know.
Wait for the sequel.
Wait for the sequel, mate.
Keep injecting guns and drugs to make us kill ourselves,
which is what we're using right now.
Ah, contradictions. What are you going to do?
All right. Any other spoilers sort of get into in this movie?
I feel like we didn't talk about it very much.
No, it's an older movie, but I don't want to give too much away.
If people haven't seen it
It is a cult
Yeah, definitely go watch it
I mean a lot of people
I've probably seen it
Five or six times I think
Yeah well I will say
They're definitely not afraid
To kill off characters in this movie
Very true
Very true
Yeah but I like
I liked all the kids man
They did a really good job
It's understandable
It's a shame that John Boyega's character
In Star Wars
Mm-hmm
sort of like fell flat i think
completely missed no i agree with so he was completely misused
right because he was really misused
yeah he's a good actor like he was the whole jonathan major's
king thing that was happening remarkable i like his star was character guys come on
when did he even show up in those last couple ones
like he was pretty good in the force awakens like he was pretty good in the force awakens like
He played a real major role in that part, and then they, like, stopped using him.
Wasn't he about to do something heroic at the end of the next one, and then he got knocked out?
Oh, yeah.
We can talk about Star Wars all nine, I guess.
I know, man.
He was like...
I'm not a...
I don't hate the movies, and I have no problem with anybody playing any of the roles.
I think it's just all bad writing.
Yes.
That's what I'm saying.
Like, that's what I'm saying.
John Boyega is better.
than they gave him credit for in Star Wars, I think.
At least he's got that under his belt.
Yeah, I'm sure he's got residuals for life.
And I mean, I haven't seen him in much else other than that stuff, but...
He's done a lot of indie movies.
Has he?
Because he seems like a legit actor, man.
Yeah.
I'd like to see you.
I think he was asked about returning to Star Wars, and he was just kind of like,
no thanks
because he knows they misused him in the movie
yeah like been there done that
I kind of turned him into like a comic relief there
for a minute and I was like
what are you doing
anyway let's see he in production
it says the freshening
whatever the hell that is and it says
attack the block too in production
Brian so who knows
who knows if it really is
IMDB you can't always trust right
I can say we have a movie in production.
Is it true?
Well, if you say it, you get attacked on the internet.
Where's your proof of your production?
What's your source, Brian?
What's your source?
All right.
Brian, what's your score for this one?
I was going to give this an 8.5, but I'm going to give it a 9.
Because I forgot about the real MVPs of this movie.
Mayhem.
and props, the two little kids that kept saving the day.
Oh, yeah.
They were pretty great.
It sounded like a couple.
Had no business being out on the streets.
Yeah.
Even the older kids that they were trying to be like was like, no, go home.
Do your homework.
Yeah.
Maybe.
But at the end of the day, when somebody needed help, they were there.
They were there.
Especially when they set that one alien on fire with the Super Soaker filled with gasoline.
Mayhem and props
sound like a couple of teenage mutant
Ninja Turtles
And I like they got their recognition at the end
Because they just kept calling them by their real names
But at the end there was like
Don't you go by mayhem and props
And they just kind of looked at each other like yeah
Well and he's like turned to him
In the middle of one of them
And he's like nobody's ever going to call you mayhem
If you keep being such a pussy
I love it
That's great
So it's a solid night
out of 10. It might even on
a good day be a 10 because I can't
really think of anything
that
I can find negative to say about the movie.
It's just entertaining
from start to finish.
It definitely is. And the
dad in me has different opinions
than I would have used to.
About some of these kids.
Lance, what do you think?
I mean, I'll go
seven and a half. It's
a good solid
like I said I've seen it
five or six times it's one of those movies
that's worth watching over and over
again but yeah not
a masterpiece but it's a good strong
seven and a half it's a fun movie
yeah I'm gonna go eight and a half
I think it was a I had a
really good time with this one
it was so much better than I expected
it to be but I you know
like you chose it for Alien Week
and I was like attack the block I don't know
I've never even seen it
No, that's good. It's good that you finally seen it, man.
But, yeah, no, man, I had a really good time with him.
We'll move on to our brand new one, a quiet place day one.
A woman named Sam finds herself trapped in New York City during the early stages of an invasion by alien creatures with ultra-sensitive hearing.
All right, you get it.
Okay, sure.
Sure.
Director is Mike Sarnaski, also known for Pig, starring Nick Cage.
Oh, okay.
It's a good one.
Writers are Michael Sarnaski with John Krasinski and Brian Woods.
Okay.
Lupita Nyongos explained the most fun and exciting part of the movie was finding out how to communicate messages without words.
Oh, that makes sense.
before making even the smallest gesture of body language
could change the context of the entire scene.
So each scene required much internalizing.
Patsy's Pizzeria in Harlem is considered by many
to be the originator of the New York style pizza.
That's what I heard.
She was going to get that slice of pizza, God damn.
I'm telling you, might be a place to visit.
All right.
Brian, what do you think of a quiet place day one?
I actually dug this one.
It was much different from the previous two.
It was more character-driven, and it makes more sense,
because I totally forgot what the director had directed before.
He directed Pig, which was a lot of character-driven story in that movie.
True.
And I don't know if this is a spoiler, but it happened.
You find out super early in the movie, so I'm just going to say it.
You find out she's terminally ill.
yeah it's just kind of on her own yeah hospice surprised me that's surprised me I didn't even know they were
going that way with that character so it kind of kind of drew me more to that character and what's
going to happen to her how is she going to deal with the situation and I like nothing to lose right
yeah and I like that we're in a because when we're in the first two movies we're already in
that world so in this one we get a chance to see
see people's reaction and figuring out what they need to do around these monsters.
Though some things I felt came a little too quickly that they found out, and we'll get to that
and spoilers.
But I like that we're just not dropped in the situation again.
I like that we get to see people's reactions.
There was a good, it was a small little thing, but I thought it was a good scene.
And we'll get to that in spoilers.
There was, I thought Joseph Quinn, I thought he did a good job.
He's Eddie from Stranger Things, the guy that does Metallica solo in the last season.
Okay.
Is that him?
Yeah, that's him.
Oh.
Huh.
I had no idea.
Was he the guy that was, like, falling around the whole time, or the dude from the weekend?
Yeah.
Okay.
The guy from the beginning was from Hereditary, the son.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Like King Pymond.
I didn't even click
Yeah
And then I don't say too much yet guys
Yeah okay
I'll just
I'll also before I move on
Just throw it to somebody else
I like the Demand Hanju's
Character from the second one
Just he's
He's in it enough
Just so we feel that connected
To the other movies
Not too much
I like that
We didn't get too much of him
Because I know they're doing
The Third Quiet Place
movie that's a sequel to the first two.
So what I understand, we'll get more of him
and that one. But yeah,
I enjoyed it. I know there's some people that
kind of wanted the same thing as the
original two, but
I'm glad they kind of went a different way with
this one, with the character
and certain other things.
So I enjoyed it.
Okay. Lance, what do you think?
I thought this movie was
very well done. I thought
this was the perfect little appetizer, like the little sorbetes that you have between the courses,
because we've already had the first movie, which was extravagant and a lot going on,
and a lot of world building.
And then you had the second movie, which kind of picked up where it left off,
and you learn about the people that live on the island,
and you don't know how they got there, but you know that they're safe because they're, you know,
monsters can't get in the water and all that stuff.
and then we know there's a big epic movie coming up for the third one
because they've set that up
and this was like just a perfect little appetizer between
it's a it's a small story
they very very smartly in my opinion kept it to just an hour
and a clean hour and a half movie
you've got just the right amount of character development
you get to see exactly how it started they don't hit you over the head
over and over and over again with all this huge epic scum
It's just a small character study of just a small group of people.
Giving her the situation that she was in was absolutely brilliant.
I thought the fact that she knew that her mindset was completely different
from the mindset of these people that are in these big disaster movies like,
oh my God, I've got to live and my family's got to live
so that we can do generations and generations live for several more decades.
she knew what she was getting into
she knew where she already was
and she knew what was at stake
and I love the fact that they had the balls
to have a character like that
that she knew she wasn't going to live much longer
so she literally had nothing to lose
and so that gave her moments
to be heroic and
she showed that heroism in this movie
and I think it was just brilliant
I think the acting was superb
I really enjoyed
fantastic in this I thought
I enjoyed she I thought she
explained
a lot of the story
and what's going on without even having like
Phil you brought up into trivia the whole
having to convey what you need to say
without even saying it with certain body movements
and expressions and stuff. I thought she did a great
job doing that.
Let's not forget, guys,
the value of the comedy
relief of the cat.
Because every time things started getting
really intense and heated, that cat
would come in and do something funny.
And I just loved it.
I think this was a little bit of drug.
Although realistically, the cat would have been dead immediately.
Realistically, that cat would have been gone the first five minutes of the movie.
But that being said, it was a fun movie.
I love the fact that they kept it.
It knew what it was, and they kept it within those parameters.
And by the time the movie was over, I was like, okay, this is exactly the way it should end.
This is perfect.
They wrapped it just right.
And they told us how it all started.
And they explained to us how these people got to the island that, you know,
We see him into the second movie.
So, well done.
Really good movie.
I enjoyed it a lot.
Yeah.
I kind of had the same vibe from it.
I didn't love as much of the character stuff as I did the dealing with the very beginning of this alien invasion thing.
I thought that part of it was super cool to me, and I wanted a little bit more of it.
Yeah.
Didn't give as much as you wanted them.
Right. But the character development was really great.
Lupita Nyango is pretty amazing and just about everything that she's in,
everything that I've seen.
I thought they killed it.
I'd keep the cast small for the most part, aside from the, you know, some of the giant scenes or whatever.
And I kind of loved the ending.
It was a really, yeah, like you were saying,
It's a good little palate cleanser before the mayhem starts in a quiet place three, I guess.
But, yeah, man, I had a good time with this one.
It was pretty good.
Kids liked it.
They wanted to go see it.
Nice.
Yeah, they were loving it.
And my theater audience was perfect because they were actually quiet.
They actually knew to be fucking quiet.
I had a little group that wouldn't shut the fuck up.
Oh, no.
Well, I kind of feel like with what.
was happening in this movie, you didn't necessarily
need to keep, I mean, it's
nice that people, for the
most part, feel of quiet.
But I think
it was a different tone
than the other two since we're getting
the beginnings of
what's happening. Yeah.
That first Quiet Place movie
was a completely different theater
experience than I've ever been in before. That was
pretty amazing. Yeah, because I
still remember just
to share quiet, how quiet it
was.
Yeah, like you didn't want to make any noise in the theater.
Yeah, somebody was opening, like, something they got from the concession and made a little sound.
And even they were like, oh, sorry.
Yeah.
And it wasn't through the whole movie.
They just, they had a little laugh first in the middle where they were laughing at inappropriate times.
But, yeah, no, I had a good time with this one.
It was a quality movie.
Great acting.
Love the special effects.
Love the creatures.
They kind of killed it.
All right.
Brian, what do you think on scores?
It's a solid eight.
I think everything you just said with the acting and the effects and the storytelling,
I thought was real solid.
And I wouldn't mind if they did a second spinoff movie.
Maybe.
Because I'm so curious on is this happening in other places in the world?
Or is it just primarily?
Good question.
This area.
Yeah.
Well, I assume it probably all happened at the same time is the only way that it would really make any sense.
Yeah.
As far as tactical.
Although these things obviously are not super-duper smart.
I'm kind of confused on how exactly they work, actually.
Yeah, there's a scene where I had some questions that will get in spoilers.
Okay.
I mean, they obviously don't have much sonar.
How are they like maneuvered so quickly along?
these buildings if they can't see anything.
And how did they build these
spaceships? Well, we'll get into all that later, right?
Also true.
Although, you know,
it's not really explained why they're there.
Like, I mean, this could just be a cleansing
before a different alien.
Yes. And let's talk about that later, too.
Yeah.
I have some theories on that as well.
All right. Lance, score.
Seven and a half. Same score, man.
I liked it.
just as much.
I'll go eight.
I like it.
It was a good movie.
Nice.
All these Quiet Place movies have been really solid.
Yeah.
Can't say Indian suck, right?
They're all good.
Yeah, for sure.
I think Nez would have a difference of opinion.
I believe he doesn't really care for them.
None of them?
Man, you never can tell with that, dude.
Fucking Nas, man.
Jesus Christ.
I mean, I could be wrong, but I do remember him not being too high on the, the
first too.
I should have just started a bunch of nudity.
He'd be fine.
Spoilers.
Yeah, let's do it.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
Yeah, I think it is.
Oh, I'm sorry.
I was going to say, I think it is possible that this is like just the first wave, Brian.
that there may be more intelligent aliens coming behind these.
Completely agree.
Well, yeah, because like I said, these things are obviously not very smart.
It don't seem to be, I mean, right?
I don't understand how they navigate the world.
I don't know, but Brian, what were you going to say?
Oh, I was going to say maybe we'll get more of that in the next movie.
Yeah.
Because I think by this point, the people that make these movies are knowing that people are,
going to start having more questions that are wanted to be answered as we're getting into the next one,
which will be the fourth movie. So I think we'll get more answers than that one, which I was thinking
maybe you can have the next one be the next spin-off movie be another prequel, but dealing it from
the point of view of the military and how they're dealing with it. Because in this one, they were
already flying helicopters over, trying everybody get to the boats because they can't swim. They knew
something was going on, right, even before this.
So maybe, yeah, like you just said, Lance,
maybe they had pre-knowledge of what was going to happen or what's going on.
Well, and they're the ones that got them to the island.
Yeah.
So there obviously is, you know, some sort of system of government still in place, I guess.
Yeah.
And a good scene that I was going to bring up, that I talked about, I said,
I was going to bring it up in spoilers was, it's a small thing,
but I just like the way it was done was how everybody learned they had.
had to be quiet and they were all walking to the docks to get on the boats but the sheer volume
of people that was together right caused enough sound yeah even though they were being as quiet
as they could it was just so many people together not very smart oh fuck that i thought that
immediately i'm not gonna be in it yeah no shit doesn't apply and i love we got we how she figured
out the rain or the water
covers up the noise because when it
well when it started raining first
okay and she was like kind of looking around
and didn't see any of them out there and was like okay
the the rain is drowning out all the other noise
so and I like that
I think it clicked when she was in the fountain with the kids
yeah because the kids figured out they were like
we ain't leaving this fountain
they're not messing with us here no shit
And I enjoyed the whole thing with her.
Like, I'm going to die anyways.
I'm going to the pizza spot where my dad,
that, you know, you found out that she loved dearly,
that this was their favorite spot together.
She was like, I don't give a fuck on what's going on.
Eddie from Stranger Things, stop following me.
I'm going to get pizza.
Mm-hmm.
And she got her pizza.
And I like the moment when they got to the pizza place
and it was destroyed, but
I'm gonna keep calling him Eddie
because he's Eddie to me.
I don't even know what his name was.
She should have left that motherfucker
a long time ago.
The first that he shows up
and starts getting all panicky,
it's like, ah, no.
But I like that contrast with her,
because he was like,
basically he was shell-shocked
on what's going on.
Yeah.
And it kind of showed you
that there is a softer side
because she even said
that she didn't like people
and she just,
they even brought it up at the hospice house.
she's just mean to everybody.
Yeah.
But she couldn't, in her heart, leave him in the way he was just afraid of everything.
She couldn't just leave him there.
That was her last act of kindness.
That was her last heroic act.
I think that was beautifully done.
And he found the pizza at the end.
Yeah.
No, he totally redeemed himself.
But, like, at the very beginning, like, well, I guess it wasn't at the very beginning.
but when the creatures first came down and he first started following her and he was like already all panicky and shit and just following her around
I was like that guy's gonna get you fucking killed
that's where I thought it was leading to because she just kept turning around and it's like get
get away go like he was like a dog following her get out of he was they look like a little puppy falling around
yeah well I mean you don't know how you would act in that you don't know how you would act in that situation though
I mean, I don't know.
I like the way they did it.
I really did.
But the one thing I did have a little problem, small problem with was I felt like everything was coming quickly.
Okay.
Yeah.
Well, they figured it out real fast.
I'm glad the movie didn't overstay it's welcome, though.
I didn't need a two and a half hour, three-hour movie.
But had they done a movie where they sort of figured,
out slowly over time and then
by the end of the movie they realize
oh we just have to be really quiet because they hear
through sound. That could have been a cool
shtick too
but
I guess I can't complain too much I mean they did a great job
maybe maybe we'll get that in Brian's other
offshoot movie with the military
and I do like the scene with
DeMond Hanju's character when
everybody's figuring out that
you need to be quiet and that one guy is just freaking the fuck out and he's covering his mouth
to the point where he kills him accidentally.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, was it accidentally though?
I mean, he kind of like, I think he was.
You need to shut up.
Yeah, I don't think he meant to kill him, but he was forcefully making me quiet because, I mean,
he had no choice.
He had his son there with him.
Yeah.
He knows what's going to come if everybody's making noise.
So I think he was.
that was a little bit of a beautiful scene too man
where like his son's down there and he's like
oh man I just killed this guy and my son saw it
but on the other hand he has to protect him
because this guy is like losing his shit
tough choice
yeah I mean yeah it's fucked up what happened
but at the same time I can't blame him
that guy that guy would 100%
would have gotten everybody in their killed not just him and his son
yeah he had
absolutely did the right thing. Now, realistically, would that guy have died? Probably not.
He'd just be like unconscious maybe. Well, they had to make, yeah, they had to make it dramatic.
Yeah. But it's like, it's like they're saying Star Trek, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one, right?
Especially at that point. Like, I'm a little surprised he didn't just drag him outside and throw him off the roof.
I probably would have made, probably would have made too much noise.
Yeah, true. Although they would have maybe all rushed down there at the bottom of the, you know.
All right, is that enough for this movie, guys?
Yeah, I think so.

Next week, it's the return of our main man, Pedro,
and he might even give us a Texas Frightmare update since he was the only one of us who went.
So we are going to talk about Maxine with three Xs as well as porno.
What is porno, Brian?
You never seen porno?
I think I might have.
It's like a shutter.
In the movie theater?
Yeah.
Okay, I have seen it.
This should be interesting.
Yeah, this is going to be a little terra firmerish.
So, Phillip, until the horror returns again.
Good night.
Thank you.
