Greetings, victims, for those of you who delight and dread, who fantasize about fear, who glorify gore, welcome, you have found the place where the whole, the whole, return, you have found the place where the whole return.
Listeners beware, this podcast contains major plot spoilers on the foulest of language.
Join us in celebrating the old and the new, the best, and the worst in horror.
all right welcome back one and all to the whore returns i'm philip and with me is brian
steve and nes may join us later but we'll see how that goes uh we're sort of winging it this week
but i guess we'll start out with the uh pool of the week brian what you got oh where is my list
well you got a list yeah i got i got some shows and i got some movies uh still working me and my daughter
still working our way through walking dead we're up to season nine now oh man you're like in the
thick of it yeah i think i think i'm i think i'm at the point where i dropped off so i think from
here on out it's just it's all going to be your first time watch for me okay is it any good still
i'm enjoying it i don't know if it's the show or just seeing my daughter's reactions to things
I told her from the beginning
don't hold on to characters
and she seemed to not listen to that
and it's rooting for certain characters
and rooting for other characters
like
spoilers for anybody who hasn't seen Walking Dead
she was really mad when they
didn't kill Negan and they captured him
oh yeah
yeah that was dumb
she was a big fan of Glenn
so yeah
you got to kill
after that yeah uh checked out this uh new show that started on apple tv plus called plurvis
i think that's how you pronounce it okay it's made from the it's made from the creator of breaking
bad okay and basically this outbreak happens throughout the planet it's kind of it's real
sciencey because it says it's not a virus
It's more of a recipe that they got.
It's like an alien recipe that they got through some kind of sound waves or radio waves from another galaxy or something.
And they did the lab thing and tested it.
And, of course, we're testing it on animals.
And then someone got bit.
And then they passed it on.
Basically, it creates a hive mind of everybody on the planet.
including the animals
i don't know if they even got to that part yet but the high mind is like everybody's connected
nobody's an individual okay and there's like 11 people on the entire planet that is
was not affected by it and the main character is like trying to figure it out and she's having
these negative outbursts to because the the hive mind people are very polite and
want to be helpful and she's freaking out and every time she has a negative reaction it makes them
go into seizures and since it's a hive mine oh it happens throughout the world and she's essentially
depending on what these people are doing she's killing people oh wow and yeah it's it's it's pretty
good so far it's real sciencey you got to pay attention when they start trying to explain it
because even the part where they were trying to explain it,
they were even like,
we don't even know how it works.
Yeah.
Usually the sciencey stuff in shows is just half-ass made up anyway.
Yeah.
So that's pretty good.
On Netflix, I checked out a new show called Wayward,
starring Tony Collette.
Oh, okay.
It's about these two kids that get sent to this kind of reform school,
and they kind of find out that it's more of like,
a cult that the town's involved because there's like all the people in town are like
former graduates of this reform school and there's like no children the only children that
are in the town are kids that are getting fostered from the reform school and tony collates
the person that runs the the school she's essentially like the cult leader oh i know what that is
yeah yeah i check i watched the whole season
it's pretty good um i thought i was under impression this was a limited miniseries
but the way the the season ended it looks like they're setting up for a second season
but it's pretty good i've scrolled past it a couple times and yeah it's very young adult
kind of stuff but the the mystery and the the cult stuff kind of keep you
wrapped up in the story so okay i didn't realize it was like a cult thing i thought it was just
some fucking horror reform school thing or something i'm like i don't watch it no you get you get
the cult vibes very early okay and uh checked out two movies uh checked out this movie match on
toby it's a to be original the reason i checked it out because everybody was just saying
it was disgusting and repulsive people were throwing up
in the theaters?
I guess.
On their couches?
Yeah.
I didn't get none of that.
Maybe it's just,
I'm desensitized.
There were some,
I guess,
gross moments in it,
but it wasn't making me
turn away from the screen.
It's just basically this lady,
she's going on dates
with one of those like dating apps,
like Tinder or whatever.
And she goes,
goes on a date she goes to meet this guy at the house and essentially everything goes sideways
and had some stuff in there that i wasn't expecting it's actually a pretty good movie for
to be original it's just i wasn't grossed out by anything okay and my cool the week
uh back to netflix was a gerimo del toros frankenstein yeah
Yeah, that was one of mine.
Yeah.
I thought the visuals were great.
The acting was on point.
I did have a little problem with the runtime because it's like two and a half hours.
Yeah.
But other than that, I thought it was a great take on it.
They kind of made you feel for Frankenstein.
I thought, what's his name?
Jacob.
You already did a fantastic job as Frankenstein.
Yeah.
And then they kind of.
kind of made him
like super powered in this one
well but that makes
sense yeah
I think that works
so uh yeah no
I enjoyed it too
it was definitely had the
Guillermo del Toro fish
love story
going
but
I guess there wasn't any Frankenstein sex
so
no which I kind of thought there was
I mean you got me a goth
I'm sure she has no problem
doing those kind of weird
Frankenstein sex scenes.
Yeah, I was really expecting her to come out of some clothes.
Yeah, which she was actually
compared to other roles we've seen her
and was kind of reserved in this one.
Yeah.
Not as weird and wacky as she usually is.
Yeah, she kind of played it straight.
And I thought
Oscar Isaac did a great job
as Victor Frankenstein.
Yeah.
Yeah, solid movie.
Really long, but solid.
Yeah, it's my cool of the week, Frankenstein.
All right.
Well, I'll go with Frankenstein,
and I watched Fat Man for the first time, finally.
Oh, with Mel Gibson?
With Mel Gibson is Chris Pringle.
I had a pretty good time with it.
It was good.
I had a
Walter
Walton Gaggins
Yeah
Yeah
As the
They kept listening
In the subtitles
As Skinny Man
So I don't know if that had anything to do with it
But
It seems like he was just a
Shithead kid
Yeah that's a
Like if you
If anybody wants like a more serious
I guess take on Violin Night
Yeah
Then it would be fat man
And it still had a pretty
good like moral to the story you know like they're just looking for the christmas spirit it's like
elf but brutal yeah uh yeah and and and and and those two is what i well i also was watching the new
uh uh squid games challenge oh yeah so i was just got to find yeah it's it's fun to watch man
it's stupid and cheesy but
I mean they've got like
the real sets and
you know when people die they get a little
squib in their chest and they have to fall down
like they're dead so that's always fun
great job of making you dislike
people oh yeah absolutely
there's a couple people that I didn't
even think was even going to make it to like
what is it the final five
now or six or something
yeah they narrowed it down
pretty quick
but you know they were killing off like half the people in every game so yeah uh but yeah that's what that's what i got
for cool of the week all right well we'll roll it on over to horror headlines what do we got
all right uh start with some tv news kurt russell is officially back for uh monarch
uh legacy of monster season two that's the godzilla con monster verse tv show on apple tv plus
so he's officially coming back which i'm assuming
his son would come back because he played the younger version of him
yeah that makes sense
throw some flashbacks in there
uh let's see alien earth
uh officially green lit for season two
okay
well see where they go with it you think they're going to be able to keep the quality as high
it depends if we get
alien earth season
two like next year
or early next year
I think it's because they rushed it
but if they take their time with it
I think
they'll keep the same quality
yeah I think so
orphan three
is officially filming
which I didn't even know this was
happening and it's going under the
tentative working title
of orphans so are we
getting more than one
killer orphan?
Maybe. I don't know who asked for this one.
Well, I think the
second one did pretty good. It was
a Paramount Plus release.
Yeah, I can't remember if I even
watched the second one or not.
I think we reviewed it and I think
we all were kind of like
not that it was great but it was better than it should have been yeah
yeah i already forgot that i watched it one of those
and last up
you can say the same thing about this one
uh who asked for this one uh filming has officially wrapped
which i didn't even know they started filming on the next insidious movie
oh there's more
yeah they gotta stop those like they are like three movies ago they are bringing back lynn shay somehow
some way and no patrick wilson so all new characters outside of lynchay well i mean good
that we have lynchay in there so she got to keep it interesting but you know what was the
last one she was in that last key one that was pretty
hot garbage
I can't remember which one I thought was the worst
that one or what was the last one
the red door oh yeah
the red door
I didn't completely hate
the red door
definitely wasn't needed
but
it's like they just keep
they may as well be
poltergeist movies
you know
yeah
well slow news week we're heading into the holidays so it might be like this for for a couple weeks
but that is the news all right on down to the trailer park
gonna bring the big the small and sometimes the very very weird what is our first new trailer
to talk about this week uh this one's a sequel i think the original one influence came
out a couple years ago on Shudder.
This one's called Influencers.
Oh, I was like, didn't this movie already come out?
Yeah, this is the sequel.
I guess this is the continuing story
because she was essentially killing influencers
and taking over their lives.
And this one pretty much looks like she's on the run
for killing these people.
Okay.
I never actually watched the first one.
It's pretty good.
Yeah.
It's actually pretty good.
she did a i think the main what's the main act christ cassandra nod and that is her actual birth mark on her
face yeah i figured and she did actually yeah which they kind of make it a kind of a thing in the
first one and you're just kind of like it's not really a big deal yeah but they try to
she is
you know
not somebody
who's going to go
under the radar
yeah
a big thing
on your face
but
I'll probably end up
watching this one
I'm not really
it's not really
top of my list
because it
looked like
they're going
outside of the
horror elements
and more thriller
yeah
yeah
yeah
I'll go back and watch the first one eventually.
But, yeah, no, I just thought this was the trailer for the first one.
I was like, wait a minute.
I mean, it pretty much looks like the trailer for the original one.
It's just assuming these people are influencers and she's hiding and she may be blowing her cover,
trying to kill more influencers or something.
Yeah.
Oh, look, we got Steve coming in.
Well, anyway, yeah, we already started.
That's cool.
It's 5.30 on the dot.
Come on.
No, I know.
I didn't even mean to set it up for that.
I was just trying to figure it out, man,
because we're missing our fearless leader today.
Got it, got it.
We need your cool of the week.
Have you guys already talked about Frankenstein?
Yes.
A little bit.
Yeah, that's besides Predator.
that's in a short week is really all I've watched
it was it was long
we talked about that
but I thought like visually it was great
some cool action shots
but it felt like a very expensive play
it did
it didn't feel like a movie a lot of times
even when he was even with the ship stuff
it felt like it was on the sound stages you know
I have my gripes but it was really well done
you know it's really good yeah like a lot of
lot of really cool scenes of like just walking through the rain where it was just visually kind of
great yeah i'm assuming most of it was on a sound sound stage because i'm assuming they didn't
really have wolves as bad as those wolves looked i just now remember that yeah it's good point
it's okay i'm okay with them looking a little fake you know the wolves looked bad but what happened to
him was cool it's pretty vicious he he has a thing with jaws you know he likes to remove them from
things yeah signature move it's pretty good rift that dude's beard off yeah i you know i'd
give it a high sidekick on ours so for years probably like around seven eight you know
it's good but like when when frankestine was like he's like now it's my turn to tell the story
i was like oh shit here we go boring like god damn it's an hour are you looking through a hole in the
wall, bro. I'm so fucking
cool.
I just want to live in harmony with
the little mice.
What happened in the hour of the movie?
Looked through a hole, he built a fence.
Fuck. It's been a long time.
And
we're in trailer park
now. I just real quick want to get
your thoughts on some of these
headlines. Kerr Russell
officially back from Monarch season
two.
Monarch was good. But that's
a bin show. You can't, that's not a week to
week show. Like, yeah, I saw a lot of
people falling off that show and they're like, I just
can't, and I agree, like,
I wouldn't have been able to keep up with that week to week,
but watching it all in one go, that was
a good show. But you need to be
able to get it at the right pace.
Alien Earth
officially renewed
for season two.
Great. Love that show. It was really,
really good. Yeah.
That's... I'm kind of a sucker
from all things, aliens and predator,
Yeah, I was super impressed with that one
I kind of like the alien stuff better than the predator stuff
Maybe
I don't know, I guess we'll find out tonight
You get different things like with alien
I expect that to be a little bit more elevated
A little bit more smart with Predator
I want more action more jokes more
You know stuff like that
Orphan 3 officially starts filming
Under the title Orphans
Which one was that?
Was that the one with the little girl
was like a old it was like a real woman yeah i didn't see the second one i was like how is it a
prequel when she's way older i just never bothered with it yeah i can't remember i still can't
remember if i've actually watched the second one i think i did a lot of just forgot about it
did a lot of force perspective stuff i don't know that even the first one was felt felt gross watching
it like this i don't like this and lastly we will be talking
about and uh you i remember your guys have review about the insidious movies so i'm sure you're not
excited that they just started or they had rap filming on the new one and they're bringing lynchay
back as like a force ghost or is she like what is she sure no patrick wilson so no song
she's in the underside now there's where you're wrong right just because there's no
Patrick Wilson doesn't mean there's no song
okay I feel like he planted
his flag in something and I don't think he's
ready to get rid of it trying to put that out in the
universe so I guess now it's happening
now it's happening
the insidious movies it's weird because
I I like the ones
most that nobody likes
like I really liked skeleton key
but that's I like the side characters
more I didn't like the family and the
lipstick face guy so I like
three
three was pretty good
which one was that
What Dormont Maruni was the father and the little girl.
And then at the end, they introduced Jenna Ortega.
Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes.
She was going to be the next case, but they dropped the ball on that one.
Well, she got famous.
They couldn't afford her.
Maybe that's what happened.
Yeah, I just don't, I don't know where, I don't care about the further, you know, like the, the, um, the lucid dreaming thing.
Like, I think it's a cool concept, but I don't like the way they.
execute it. It's just a really boring, dark area. Like, I don't know. It's, and it, I don't know what the
rules are there. Are you strong or the bad guy's strong there or not? Because I don't feel like,
they know what the rules are. Yeah. I need some, I need some rules laid out because I, I don't
understand. Like, it's super dangerous. They'll kill you in there. But like, how? Lynn,
Lynn Shea's going to be there for sure. Yeah. And as far as trailer park, we are on the first
trailer which is influencers did you see influence in the first one yes is this a sequel yes oh
that was that's why i didn't make any sense no i didn't see the first one so okay that was a little lost
yeah that's all right i was essentially the first one essentially the first one she
murders a influencer and takes over her life
takes over her instagram handle or whatever just with like old
photos and stuff or like
I don't remember
new content it was like nobody noticed
that she had like a thing on her face
yeah like that's a different
person what's going on
I was telling Phil
I'm assuming this because it looks like she's on the
run in this one
trying to hide
okay that makes sense
she kills quite a few people
on the first one is the first one worth it
is it worth the watch? Yeah it's
decent it's on shutter
which this one's a shutter original also
yeah I'll probably
I mean if it gets your endorsement
I'll probably check out the first one before this one
because this one seemed like it was a continuation
of something I felt lost so I'm glad
to hear that that is what it's not with the cases
and this one is releasing on shutter
December 12th
and a little light on the horror
so I had to pick something else
which I got the new Sam Rockwell
well, sci-fi, adventure, action, comedy, drama, what IMDB has it, good luck, have fun, don't die.
Is that same Rockwell?
Yeah.
I had no idea.
Homeless man from the future coming to say the world.
As soon as he opened his mouth, I knew he was Sam Rockwell.
Yeah.
Does he dance in this one?
Of course.
At least in one scene.
This looks like a lot of fun
I like the soundtrack
The trailer had a lot of energy
I like the soundtrack they had in there
And I think visually it's gonna be really cool
You got him, it looks like he gets a group together
That believes him
And then weird shit happens
At one point it looked like it was a giant deer walking around
I don't know
Shit looks crazy
Yeah
Yeah I don't know what goes on in the future
But
Well I'll take it
Sam Rockwell dude
sold.
Absolutely.
That looks really good.
I was unsure until I heard that part.
I don't see a release day.
I think this one comes out in February.
Okay.
Man, I'll watch that one for sure.
February 13th in theaters.
Valentine's Day movie.
All right.
I like it.
All right.
We'll move on to some more.
listener feedback. This week
we shine the podcast spotlight on
jaunty haunts. Welcome
to jaunty haunts, where we talk all
things supernatural. I've been hiding
my true self for 30 years, and it's
time to come clean. I see
ghosts.
I like it.
All right, in regards
to the Buffy reboot, Darrell
Oakley says, of course they bring
back Sarah Michelle
Geller as a guest to bring in
viewers, and then she leaves the show
and then she leaves
the show will bomb.
Reboots don't work
without legacy characters.
I don't think she's a guest.
The reboot's not out yet, is it?
No, I think, early next year.
Is she not supposed to be in it at all?
Oh, she's in it, but I don't think
is more than a cameo.
All right.
I've never seen one minute of that.
Neither have I, me and my daughter
been contemplating.
it's got to be so it's got to be so old now i i recently been re-watching game of thrones to go to
go to sleep i put on game and throne season one i'm almost to the end but that show it looks
old yeah oh my god season one you're like wow i was like what blinders was on like you can see
a lot through the scenes a lot um and i just wonder how something like buffy was gonna look
All these years later.
When that started airing in like 2001, 2002.
I had to have been.
Yeah.
I've never seen that a scene or anything.
I remember that when I was in high school,
Christy Swanson's mom was a substitute teacher in rotation.
So every time we would get her, she would be like,
my daughter was in Buffy and have a whole thing.
I'm very familiar with the movie.
Yeah.
Not so much the show.
yeah yeah i i may have seen a couple episodes you know popular enough to have some spin-offs but it was
like the first big c w thing david boreannis was that his name
angel yeah i know you're talking about and i don't know if that's his name aka the crow
yeah oh geez no he was the bad guy in one of the crow oh okay oh okay played satan when he was going
up against Edward Furlong, remember? Terry Reid was in that one.
That's right.
Wood Furlong.
Yeah.
That was a bad movie.
Miss that guy.
All right.
Lee Mitchell O'Donnell says, I'll give it a try as long as Josh Whedon isn't involved.
I think he's involved in anything these days.
Yeah, but he's laying low.
Ah, shit, man.
Our meeting's going to end in 10 minutes.
All right.
Well, I'll get through listener feedback and then we'll start over.
uh all right uh fati uh baltali says uh i'm so excited it's my but my biggest fear is they'll make sarah michelle geller a guest star i hope they don't otherwise the series won't work
all right in regards to black phone too uh shana lopez says i'm not sure what's creepier the movie or the fact that they're already working
a sequel i don't understand is there another sequel that they're working on or was she talking about
the black phone two are they doing part three i don't think so i'm assuming they would
since it opened pretty good yeah did you see did you see part two brian oh you must yeah so
so i did it end setting up another sequel i mean i guess the first one didn't really end setting up a sequel
I mean, you could just leave it alone
Where it ended
But I also can see them
Doing a third one
Which
It's highly wood
So
Yeah
I think it's already made like a hundred million
Do you want a horror movie budget?
Yeah, they're gonna start cranking those out
All right
And uh, Shanea Lopez
Oh
Uh, in regards to Predator 2
Uh, Rob
Cheshire says when Predator
actually meant something.
Michael Arnaz says classic.
We'll see.
Wow, those are some of the time you guys watched it.
In regards to
Goolies and Critters 3 shows,
Zim Vader said a really fun episode.
That actually was a lot of fun.
Thank you, Zin.
In regards to Repo,
the Genetic Opera,
Fatih Batali says
It was one of the best movies I've ever seen
The soundtrack was fantastic
Anthony Stewart Head's acting was fantastic
I've never finished that movie
I think it was the singing
Yep, I don't do it
The opera part
As soon as somebody starts breaking out in the song
Turn it off
In regards to the upcoming killer whale movie
Helsing 1313 says
they already made this in the 70s.
It's called Orca, the Killer Whale.
Yeah, but when you're talking about movies
that could be remade,
orca's cool, but it could be remade.
It's pretty old.
Free movie, the horror.
Nez is screaming somewhere right now.
Somebody.
No, look, I reviewed it with Nez.
I like that movie.
I'm just saying in the long list of movies
that could be remade.
It's like the last Starfighter.
I love that movie, but that could be remade.
Easily.
Yeah, but I can hear another saying Orca doesn't need to be remade 10 out of 10.
I don't know about 10 out of 10.
It's pretty good.
But I think somebody actually did recut the free willy trailer into a horror trailer.
I think that's available.
I think so.
Nice.
I watched one for Elf as a horror trailer.
It's great.
In regards to primate,
Kuchiki Selah Sim says chimpanzee,
Pansy monster physiology.
I like it.
All right.
That's it for listener feedback.

On to our feature attraction.
it's Predator Week
So we'll start with Predator 2
As aforementioned
From 1990
The Predator returns to Earth
This time to stake a claim
In the war-torn streets
Of a dystopian Los Angeles
Director is Stephen Hopkins
Also known for Nightmare on Elm Street
The Dream Child
Writers are Jim Thomas
And John Thomas
Creators of the Predator character
Okay
The film
uh the filming of the alley scene was very troublesome for the filmmakers due to the rough neighborhood
uh the alley was littered with garbage most of which was used in the film and plagued with large rats
local residents angered by the noise created by the film crew with thorough bottles and paper bags filled
with feces from windows at the crew in the alley below uh worst of all the film crew found a dead
body hidden amongst the garbage oh man the most horrible places i
ever had to film were in the alleys of
downtown Los Angeles
Shane Mahan commented
and Predator 2 was shot
in a lot of those disgusting alleys
there were dirty and depressing
and gross with people
peeing on the walls
we'd be rigging something and there would be rats
there. Ah right
awesome
first world country guys
I'm parted to this movie
I know
Steve would you like
about Predator 2?
Perter 2 is hard because I
like all the Predator movies.
Even Alien vs. Predator Requiem.
I can find things in there.
I like, it's a bad movie.
And I can recognize that.
It's not a good movie.
But I can still find things that I like because I like the
property.
I like the franchises.
I like the characters, the creature designs.
And this is no different.
I think the creature design is great.
The Predator looks really cool.
I don't think he, I think he talks too much
maybe a little too uh too many he only says like three things but it's too much like cut cut
some candy no shit happens i'm like come on man like and the motherfucker line you're not the
motherfucker line you're not the same predator that shouldn't mean anything to you like little things
are dropped but then you have gary busey hamming it up fantastic gary busey was great you know who wasn't
great danny fucking glover who whispered mumbled and stumbled and stumbled his
way through this whole movie it was exhausting Danny Glover is not an action star and it proves it
in here he he's like hobbling around he's getting out of the car he's like limping to the back
I'm like God damn like he his fight with the predator he I don't know how he manages to not just
get squished immediately yeah it's is a stark drop off from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Danny Glover
but they kept the music so that was cool
I have fun with this movie
I have fun with certain scenes of this movie
but I have a real hard time
with Danny Glover being the action star
and him whispering all of his dialogue
but Bill Paxton's there and he's fun
he's great
so he makes up for
there's peaks and valleys with this one's highs and lows
he's so silly in this movie
I know but he's been in everything
that means he's been in Predator Terminator Alien
he's been in all the
franchises. It's really, really good. So, yeah, I like it. I know it's not a great movie
because it's not, but I still like it. All right, Brian. I like this one. I had a lot of fun with
it. I do agree with you with Danny Glover. He's not an action star, but it worked in Lethal
Weapon because he was the complete opposite of Mel Gibson's character. Well, if he had a guy that
was better at fighting and stuff
that was his partner throughout this than I would see
it should have been Bill Paxton
Yes
Which that guy is hilarious
In the movie get away from my sister
Hey you're not my sister
And then we have a great opening scene
With the gang war
And what's his name
Doing all the drugs
El Scorpio is ready
Oh yeah
The the way they depicted
Latino characters
was pretty fun.
I didn't understand
Danny Glover's move. He's like, I got this
and he like backs the car up,
breaks the door off, and then
he's like, I'm like, all right, what are we going to do here?
And then he drives towards everybody shooting
hanging out of the oak.
You're making yourself more of a tar.
I don't know how any of this works.
This doesn't make any sense.
Because he's reckless.
They had that scene where they're
giving you his report. He's total
11 cop cars.
Got all these citations. He's a
fucking liability. He needs to
be put on a desk job
or something. This guy is
creating chaos. And he doesn't listen
to a single order. He's doing it
with zero style. He has
no style. At one point he's
walking around with a fedora. I'm like, where the
fuck did that come from?
But I like
all the scenes where the
Predators killing off all the different gang
members. Oh, yeah.
But going back to that first one,
that guy did not feel a thing when he
fell, he was so coked up.
Oh, yeah. When he fell perfectly on that picnic table
that didn't break.
It's a sturdy picnic table.
But the end is kind of lackluster
because it wasn't really much of a fight
because all he had to do was just stab the
predator one time with his own
weapon. Well, and then I
never understand this in movies why this happens, right?
Like the predator's like, I'm going to kill you.
He's got his claws up.
He's going to do the death kill, the death blow.
And then Danny Glover pokes him in the tummy with his blade.
And he's like, ah, I'm like, just fucking stab him.
Like, if somebody stabbed me, I'd be like, ah!
Yeah.
This predator's bit of a quitter.
Because when he was hanging off the side of the building, he immediately was going to detonate himself.
He's going to nuke.
He's like, I guess there's no way out of this.
But I had fun with the cast, Gary.
He only climbs his buildings.
Gary Busey is wacky as hell
I used to have a thing when I was a kid for
What's her name?
Maria Conchita Gunlanzo
Oh, okay
You see her in a bunch of movies
Had a thing for it when I was a kid
So a lot of nostalgic stuff there
I like the meat locker scene
All that's really cool
The Slaughterhouse thing like I like the visuals of it
The footage like the visuals of the predator
What he sees it's all
Gray and like the red
red beams of light.
That was really cool.
But the Gary Busey
death scene defies physics.
Yeah, where the top half of them go?
It never dropped.
It's just because he goes, ah!
And then, like, there's a lot of blood
and his legs fall.
But that's it.
But I still enjoy this one.
I have a lot of nostalgic love for it.
It's definitely better than The Predator.
Oh, yeah. This is way better than The Predator.
I like all the predators that show up at the end.
Badass with the music.
and all that even if the effects are a little wonky with the smoke and all that
yeah like all their legs are cut off oh yeah it's really bad superimposition but but it's it's still
one of those nostalgic scenes i saw that shit when i was nine and i didn't notice any of that you know
yeah and we got our first easter egg of xenomorphs being in the same universe which we had to wait
like over 10 years for that to even happen if nothing else this was just setting up sequel after
sequel they were like here's a xenomorph head here's a gun from 1715 what does that mean
i don't fucking know yeah i guess some other writers gonna figure it out and then and then he even
says to the to the one guy at the end um that's one of those bald ones is that adam baldwin
it's one yeah and he's like he tells him he's like he's like you'll get your chance asshole
you get you a chance and it's like okay so you're dead we're gonna keep doing this but then
they took forever to get to alien versus predator
Was that the next one?
Or was it Predators?
I think it was 80.
I think
Let me share it.
It was
Alien versus Predator was 2004.
Let's say Predators was 2010.
That was the one with
Adrian Brody.
Adrian Brody.
Who was also a pretty stark drop-off from
Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When he took his shirt off, I was like, oh, come on, man.
Cut it out.
We're going to need some more steroid stat.
We have Arnold over here doing that, and then we got CrossFit guy.
Like, it's just the difference, you know?
Yeah.
Yeah, so I definitely have some nostalgia for this movie.
Definitely a drop off from the original Predator, but there's a special.
place in my heart for this one.
Mostly because I like the,
I like the predator character in this one, right?
It sort of seems like he's just hunting
in this, like, urban landscape.
And he's not like a silly predator.
There's no emotions.
He's just killing motherfuckers.
That's how I watched it.
Yeah. Oh, nice.
Got that shot on VHS.
Nice.
And then I like the predators that come in at the end
and they have this like respect moment
where they carry the body out.
And I was noticing for the first time ever
that one of those predators,
I'm pretty sure they took the exact design,
helmet design and everything
as for one of the predators in the AVP movie.
Like the helmet is,
they have three very unique helmets in that movie,
and I clearly saw one of them here at them.
So that's pretty cool.
Nice.
Yeah.
And I like the running through the apartments
and all that stuff.
Yeah.
LA was definitely a hellscape in this.
but do you need the the what is this movie missing you know we need a big older lady in a in a
mumu and a hairnet to have a foul mouth that's what we need godown every movie in the 90s had to have it
yeah I don't think he gives a shit feels a little more like New York than L.A., but I think it works
uh all right this is the problem this is why everyone thinks they're like oh you're from California
Surf's up, bro.
You know,
we have gang wars.
I'm like,
oh, God,
it's not like that.
Apparently it was,
well,
they were finding
dead bodies
and rats in the alleys.
Jeez.
All right.
Scores,
what do you think,
Steve?
I'm going to go
a seven and a half
on Predator 2.
Okay.
It's high on the fun scale
for me.
And nostalgia goes a long,
long way.
And like I already said,
I'm a sucker for all things
alien and predator.
You'll be,
hard press. Even Reckman for me, I'd be like
hard to go below
a five because I like
there's a fucking alien predator in there.
That's really cool. That's true.
Brian?
I'm going to go a little bit higher
eight. I thought we, even though
I said this predator was a little bit
of a quitter, we do get
some insight into his character
because he doesn't kill pregnant women
or children.
Well, yeah, they have to be
allegedly. A threat.
Oh, no.
allegedly I don't know what happened to that kid
he was that close to taking out that
little kid until he saw that was a plastic gun
he was that close he had the
three dots on him and everything
well he doesn't know man it's a gun
he's coming right for us
I'm gonna go
I think seven and a half is a
is a good score for this one
it's
it's definitely dated and
and a little silly
but uh it's also
a predator movie and the predator's badass
in this one how like he took like eight point blank shots from danny glover's shotgun like to the chest
to the legs and then he stands up and just starts fighting without any we're not going to talk
about those bullet wounds at all like it is just a flesh and blood creature by the way you can cut
his arm off and you know shit's bad uh there weren't even holes in him he just had like he's not
even bleeding later spots of neon blood i thought the bathroom scene was cool though where he was like
making like tile and all kinds of weird shit
and mixing it together to make his little
that was cool. That actually was kind of cool.
I like that one.
They bring it up.
All right.
We'll move on to
Predator Badlands, our brand new one.
And hope that our recording will last.
A young predator outcast from his clan
finds an unlikely ally on his journey
in search of the ultimate adversary.
Director is Dan Tractenberg, also known for Prey, and the TV series The Boys.
Writers Dan Tractenberg with Patrick Aeson, also known for the MMA TV Drama Kingdom.
Oh.
There is not one human character throughout the film, which is how they got away with the PG-13 rating.
Yes.
A Harvester Skull from Independence Day.
1996 is a scene on the Predator's
Trophy Wall in the teaser. Oh, I didn't realize that.
I mean, they're just made by Fox. Disney owns all that shit.
All right. Well, here comes
Will Smith, I guess. In the next Predator movie.
If Will Smith tried to say, welcome to Earth and punch a predator,
he's going to get his head cut off.
It would be great, though.
The music in the trailer is performed by Mongolian folk metal band,
The Hugh.
All right.
it's an interesting one
Steve what you think
about predator badlands
was a little nervous
going into this I loved
prey and killer of killers
and I liked all the trailers for this but I was
I was a little worried about deck
the main character here is look
yeah he looks a little weird
he looks a little different from other predators
but as Dan Tractenberg
has said like he's like they're a whole ass
race like they're coming all
shapes sizes different things and you know
and different clans and different cultures and this stuff.
So I think that that's really cool.
They're expanding on that.
I read a lot of the negative comments about this movie.
I have absolutely, I share none of those opinions.
I loved this movie from beginning until the end.
I liked all of the yautchus stuff.
I liked the subtitles.
I thought Deck grew on me.
His look is actually part of the story.
And him as a character just grew and grew and grew on me.
I love the fact that they basically made
a very Spielberg-feeling adventure film
with some gory, gory monsters in it.
And I just, I loved it.
I just had so much fun.
I thought L. Fanning crushed it.
There was at one point where L. Fanning's legs
were the star of the movie, and that was fucking cool.
I liked Bud, the little creature I thought.
That was fucking cool.
Baby Yoda?
Yeah, I liked it.
I thought when he got his organic armor and weapons at the end,
fucking awesome
like you get the loader
back you get little aliens throw
a little nod to aliens in there
yeah this movie had
everything for me like
I can understand why some people might feel
negative about this
because it is such a jarring
jump to almost a different
tone and
feel of the other predator movies
but I think that's okay
nobody's really liked all these
predator movies so you know
it's okay i think to breed some new life and in going a new direction and
if you like those other predator movies they're still there they didn't delete them
but i'm excited about this i hope we i hope we get a sequel to this because
i had a lot of fun this made a lot of money so this would be my cool of the week
it's the highest grossing opening weekend in a for a predator movie in a franchise
well deserved well deserved oh that was cool good story good character arcs deck rules
awesome
Brian
Yeah I had a lot of fun with it
The character also grew on me
They do explain his look
And his size
And it's a part of the story
El Fanning
I enjoyed her character
Basically playing backpack
Throughout the movie
Um
I'd
For a second there
I did have a problem with it
I thought it was just a little too
CG
Because at times some people
people looked a little animated but most most of everything was c g i think yeah it was a little
a little bit much for me because i'm a practical guy but i do appreciate there i believe most even
like the creatures were motion capture with actors oh okay so that was a big plus so that kind of
It was like, okay, maybe it does have to be CG because you're doing all these different creatures and you're on a different planet with different things.
So you can't just do everything practically.
So I kind of got past that.
I like the world building, not only for the yautja, I like their, we're actually getting to the name of their race and stuff like that.
We're getting to know their culture and stuff like that.
also world building connecting us with the alien franchise with the Whalen Utani company
involved in this and I like the action in it and yeah bud was pretty cool so I enjoyed it for
the most part high on the fun scale story you know it's fine it's it's nothing you haven't seen
before it's it's kind of run some tropes that are normalized it's basically a coming of age story
for dead yeah but the fun scale but it's like have you seen it before sure but you've never seen
it done with a predator so like it's fucking cool to me well and i think without without without it actually
being a predator movie i don't think anybody would have really had a problem with it because it was a lot
of fun yeah this is a marvel movie yeah you put anybody you put anything else instead of a predator there
is a marvel movie and it it definitely was a big change in tone uh
But I did have a lot of fun with it.
I half-ass think that all of the explanation of deck looking so terrible
was an excuse for deck looking so terrible.
He's younger and also a run.
Yeah.
Not as well defined.
I do think it's weird.
Like his crest on his head is not even fully formed yet.
Yeah.
But I'm like, do you just, I guess I don't know.
I don't know anything about their physical.
maybe they just keep fucking changing
maybe their heads get really big when they're really
old I mean that makes sense
because he didn't even
really look like his brother
that we got introduced to in the beginning
of the movie and he looked more like a
classical like what you'd expect to see
regular predator and I like that too like there's
they're kind of like Spartans
you know they call the herd
they get their weak and they're young
when they're young but I guess
when they were little little
Dex saved his brother, whose name is Quay, saved them from, like, I guess I play with
exploding toys or some shit.
And ever since then, Quay's been looking out for his little brother.
And I just think that there's, like, this, it's just cool.
I'm like, yeah, they're scary monster aliens that come here and hurt and shit.
But, like, they also have brothers and fucking daddy issues.
Yeah.
You know, I don't know.
Maybe for some people, they're like, see, this is what I don't like.
And I'm like, ah.
It's like the Star Trek version of the Predator.
People can't really say this is not what has been going on the whole time because we never got their planet or their culture or how they interact with one another.
We always got the warrior hunting all the time.
Yeah, we got a little bit of it in Killer of Killers.
And what Dan Tractenberg is doing is he's digging deep into the archives of Dark Horse comics, which have been telling predator stories for decades.
So that yautcha and Yautja Prime and all that shit.
the comic books so he's pulling from that which plenty to pull from yeah uh but yeah man i i
liked it i had a pretty good time a little buddy comedy i thought uh elf fanning was a little
sillier than i expected her to be um but it sort of worked even though she like yeah that's true
even though she like never shut the fuck up for a second it worked
And I like his little, little bud that popped up.
I didn't exactly see it coming until it was obvious, but I liked it.
Well, as soon as the big-ass monster puts his face down, I was like, son of a bitch.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, let's go, let's go spoilers.
Steve, what's your score on the?
Oh, score.
So if I was rating this on The Geeks, it would be a hero.
So fuck it, I'm going to go.
nine and a half on ten
we'll go nine and a half on ten oh nine and a half
because I kind of would have liked
a little bit more of the
we got like the five little things that
tried to kill him and then he used those five things
in his armor and that was cool but like
yeah maybe a little bit more
more a little bit less time
maybe in the dark fighting your brother
and a little bit more time on the planet
oh yeah I guess that would work
Brian what do you think
I'm at an eight
I had a lot of fun with it
I liked the world building and I'm
excited to see where Dan Tractonburg
takes this because it seems
like just interviews I heard him talking about
stuff. He has like this
universe kind of mapped out because originally he was
going to have the character from Prey
in this one but he
held back because he has like a bigger
plan for her in a different
movie. I'm going to go
eight also. I think
I had a lot more fun. I
It's not what I expected, but maybe it's the predator that we needed.
I had a lot of fun with it.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
It was definitely worth watching.
I couldn't believe he got that little acid snake to work on his shoulder like a fucking shoulder can in the way he did.
I was shocked.
I was like, there's no way that's going to work.
Oh, my God, it works.
Yeah.
They cast one actor to play all those male androids and that guy got killed so many times in so many different ways.
I thought that was awesome.
You know, when El Fanning's bottom half is running around breaking people's necks.
Yeah, that was pretty cool.
Why so many things explode on this planet?
Oh, I know.
What about that taradactal dragon thing that was like dropping the rocks trying to get the,
the plants to explode.
I thought that was really cool.
Yeah.
And then when El Fanning was in the Prometheus machine
trying to put herself back together
and, like, the deck was fighting the monster outside
and then all of a sudden he comes crashing in and breaks her in half again
when she was almost done.
Yeah.
Come on.
There's a lot of humor, like silly, dumb humor like that.
But I love it.
Well, that's the Marvel movie thing.
They had a joke every 10 minutes.
I did expect a bigger fight with his father at the end.
yeah that's yeah uh i don't know i mean i don't know how long it could have gone on it was a pretty
good fight i loved when a deck hit the button on his on his wrist guard that's made the ship
put out all that dust so he could see his dad in the cloak i thought that was just it was a good
i thought it was a good fight and did we get to see his mother or is she just she's in the ship
okay
I thought I maybe
the next one
I thought I maybe
missed something
and I thought
it was
bud got big
it'll be a TV series
I'm sure
I'll take it
I'll take the sequel to this
the same way
they animated killer killers
I don't care
just
don't make me wait
another eight years
you know
yeah
for the sequel
so
but Dane Tractor
has been pretty good
we've gotten
three predator movies
in three years
so oh yeah
I guess it includes the animated one
and they said they are doing
an alien versus predator but
the only thing he said is not
going to be like
anyone we've seen so far
so it'll resemble an actual film with good story
and characters yes
that's cool
I could go with that
hopefully
you know
that's more directed at Requiem
again with
with Avi
The AP, the first one, that's one of those soft spots, you know?
It's like, I know the Power Rangers movie from 95 isn't very good either,
but I can still watch it and look it.
You know, I like that AVP movie.
I hadn't seen it since it came out.
I'll have to watch it again.
There's that one alien that gets the net on him, and it starts to, like, close,
and then the acid blood breaks it,
and then for the rest of the movie's got this cool.
Oh, yeah.
Like, Scar look on his head.
It's a cool movie.
I mean, the humans are all really stupid.
but that's kind of part for the course
I remember that one
but yeah man
a lot more fun with this one than I expect
I like Bud I thought he was a pretty cool little character
I mean
silly for a predator movie but
but if it wasn't for him
Decc and Thea dead doubt
that tree octopus thing was going to eat
had already eaten them
yeah that's true
the tree bug thing
yeah and then Bud went in there and broke its tooth
very cool and that blade grass see like you just keep talking about that sharp grass stuff that was
really cool too there's lots and lots to like here I mean they did did call like what they call
a death planet mm-hmm shit even when he was like breaking through the atmosphere and he had to
like pull the eject seat and he was in his little fucking scooter with a bubble you know like
all this that was really cool yeah that's one thing the predator franchise even even if you
don't like some of the movies they never disappoint on the the technology of the predator yeah all
the advanced technology and he's wearing a loincloth so did he he launched himself out in the ejector seat
in the scooter and then but at one point like tessa went and got into his ship so that must have
just crashed onto the planet and been fine so why did he eject not supposed to think about that
part okay that's why it's a 9.5 yeah
yeah and i like the uh i definitely like the mask at the end i thought that was cool it took me
a minute to figure out what the hell that was but uh it was pretty awesome i didn't like that
like once you're like all right now the big monster's on their team they're a big family this
is great they're going to kill everybody and then they killed the big monster i was like that is
like the saddest thing yeah you killed the big and they were over it so quickly yeah they were
I'm like, it's Bud's mom.
You guys know this.
We just discovered this information.
And they're just like, all right, well, I guess we're out of here.
Like, what the fuck?
Headed off the planet.
I guess Bud's not going to keep peace on that planet anymore.
Elle Fanning deserves, you know, a lot of accolates for this.
She played two roles.
She played the good, bubbly sister robot.
And then she played the evil, dark one with that warm black eye.
That was really cool.
And they were two very different characters.
good job she did a good job yeah I both the fanning sisters are kind of great actresses
so I think they can make it work hadn't been in much hadn't been in much lately with the
watchers on her yeah oh yeah that's true the other one was okay at best the box in her she's
covered in fake tattoos that one yeah okay well maybe I never understood when actors were like
for this role I need all these fake tattoos it's like but it doesn't really add anything
to the story.
It's just like
getting covered
fake thumb up, you know.
Steve, I know you've seen
God is a bullet.
Yes.
Jamie Fox's
Alopecia.
Listen.
Or whatever.
That didn't mean.
Nothing to do with his character.
What bothered me more about that
was the fact that they sat there
and they said that they were going to blow out
Jamie Lannister's whole body and tattoos
and they did it in like an afternoon.
And I'm talking thick
from.
neck, all arms, all chest, all back, blown out by one guy with one shitty tattoo machine
in like a warehouse.
I couldn't believe it.
And the way he walked away from that, I'm like, bro, you would not be walking away from
that, dude.
I just can't believe this shit.
But still, despite those, that was a good movie.
I just don't like that movie.
All right, so I guess we'll recommend the new Predator movie.
Guys, check it out.
Hell yeah.
Badlands.
