Regings victims, for those of you who delight and dread, who fantasize about fear, who glorify gore, welcome.
You have found the place where the horror returns.
Listeners beware.
This podcast contains major plot spoilers.
and the foulest of language.
Join us in celebrating the old and the new,
the best, and the worst in horror.
Yes, welcome back, everybody.
I did hit record.
Welcome back to the horror returns.
As always, I'm Lance.
As always, we got the man Brian here.
What's going on, brother?
What's up?
Trying to enjoy this nice, rainy Alaska weather.
Yeah, they're having rain in Houston, too.
It's clear here in Florida,
although it's supposed to rain over the weekend,
but we'll see what happens.
Yeah, same here.
We got a little sun.
The snows, I would say, 95% gone.
And we got some nice sunny days,
but it's been raining, like, all week.
All right.
I mean, we got to have the rain, right?
The plants need the rain.
Without that, we're fucked.
Fortunately, I have to walk my dog on a leash, and he does not like the rain.
Yes.
Or the wind.
I get it, dude.
When we lived in an apartment, my dog was going nuts when I had to walk him on a leash.
Now we just let him run in the yard.
But it's, it is what it is, I guess.
Philip's still got family shit going on.
He'll be with us eventually.
I haven't heard from Nez for this week.
Maybe he'll pop in.
Who knows?
Brian. You never know
Nez, right?
Inez has some family stuff
going on too.
Okay. Well,
we are all human, right?
Yeah. Action and
stream fiends are coming.
We keep saying it, but, you know,
life gets in the way sometimes.
That it does.
That it does. But we're here.
We're still here.
Yes, we are.
518 episodes
later. So,
Brian,
let's get it going, man.
Let's start.
the ball rolling. What's your cool of the week?
I got
three movies I checked out.
The first
two are on Netflix.
The first one is
the new shark movie
Thrash. Okay.
This may be spoken about
in a few minutes. Okay. What did you think?
I thought it was decent.
Decent? Okay.
For a shark movie,
you know, there's like a thousand
of them. There are a
thousand of them. There's no doubt about that. You got a sense to suspend disbelief a lot in this movie
for some of the stuff that goes on. But I don't know if there was some scenes that I was supposed
to find hilarious. Right. Or if it was just by accident. But I thought this movie was hilarious
at times. Okay. All right. Well, let's start with this one because you brought it up. So this
happens to be my cool of the week, Brian. Okay. And I thought it was fun.
fucking hilarious, dude.
I loved every minute of it.
I don't think any of the comedy was
unintentional.
I honestly, and by the way,
did you know the writer-director is the same
guy that did the first
movie we're going to talk about tonight?
Yes, I did. That's why
I wanted to make sure
I got this one in, just to
see. He's done a lot.
Yeah? Dead snow.
Amazing, right?
There was a couple other ones I've seen in his
filmography that I think you and me have seen also.
Yeah, it's, I'm sorry, go ahead, man.
I was just going to say, I kind of had fun with this one.
I had a blast with this one.
Neither the intentional or unintentional comedy that was going on,
the ridiculousness of the birthing scene.
Well, they did have a conversation early in the movie
where she said, her mom said something about,
why do you want to go to a hospital?
Why don't you have a water berth?
Yeah, but I don't think it works like that.
You don't think so?
No.
How many water births have you been at, Brian?
Come on.
Zero.
Then you can't speak for it.
You never know.
That might be exactly how it works.
Yeah, outside and the elements, sharks around.
Yeah, with blood.
Keep the baby in the cold water at the same.
same time, too, after his barn.
The sharks were okay looking.
A lot of CG.
Okay. Yep. I'll agree. A lot of CG.
No doubt. But there was a lot of deaths in there.
I appreciated that. They were on screen, not off screen.
Somebody disappears and you just see blood in the water.
So I appreciated that.
And for something that, you know, like I said, there's a thousand of them.
and it was on Netflix.
It was an easy watch.
I had fun with it.
Oh, dude.
When you've got three kids
that are only there being taken care of
because the foster parents
are getting the government checks
every month.
And...
Get them kids some stakes.
That's no shit.
They're hiding the stakes.
Number one, I don't think they have
basements in the South, Brian.
That's what I heard.
I don't know where they came up with this basement idea, you know?
I heard they don't have basements in Florida.
No, no basements, dude.
It's like very, it's not common if you find one.
Very, very uncommon.
Yeah, that was kind of a stretch, but, I mean, dude, what do you expect, right?
The director is from what, uh, was it, is it Norway or is it, uh, Finland?
Fuck if I know.
Oh, dude, people are yelling at us right now, right?
It's our main movie tonight that we're going to talk about.
Where is this director from?
Tommy.
Tommy Weissau?
No, this isn't the room.
It's not that bad, right?
That's funny.
That's the first thing that pulled up.
Tommy Waiso.
Tommy Worcola is from...
He's probably...
He's probably really from Georgia, right?
Norwegian.
He's Norwegian.
He's Norwegian.
Norway, okay, okay.
And other movies
I mentioned, of course,
did Snow, did Snow 2,
Violin Night, he did
Violin Night. No shit,
okay. And so, and Gretaudel,
Witch Hunters, yes, yes,
that's right, that's right.
So, yeah, he's done quite a few movies we've seen.
Okay, cool. Yeah, the guy's
definitely got an itinerary, right?
Yeah.
And the other
Netflix movie I checked out was
Apex
starring Charlize Theron
I did too
Taryn Edgerton
Yes the Kingsman
Eric Banna for like
For a few minutes
I was
entertained by this one too
Yeah it was a nice
decent little survival thriller
And after
watching this, I want to see
Taryn Edgerton
play more villain roles, because
I thought he was
villainous, but in a wacky,
kind of goofy way.
Kind of like the shark movie
we saw last year, right?
Yeah, with
Captain Boomerang.
The Australian guy, Captain Boomerang.
I can't think he's...
I like that. It's not a spoiler. It's in
the trailer where he plays
that he pulls out the boom box and he plays that song and he tells you you got to the end of the
song to get away before I start running after you.
Oh, that's right.
That's right.
Then he starts dancing and jumping around.
Yeah.
I thought it was fun.
There was some wonky CGI moments in the water.
Sure.
But you can't have your actors under rapids like that.
Yes, indeed.
And Charlize Theron and another.
basically action roll, and I thought she kicked ass, and she's pushing 50,
and she's still knocking out these action rolls.
Yeah, I was going to say for a white chick, she has pretty nice skin.
Like, she doesn't age a lot, you know?
Yeah.
She's still looking good, man.
I was impressed with it, Brian.
I really enjoyed the wackiness of the Kingsman.
I thought he was way out there, and I'm with you.
But this movie, like, for me, it took like a right turn into craziness when he pulled off those fake teeth that he had.
Oh, yeah.
I was not expecting that.
I don't want to say too much, right?
Because it's less than a year old.
But there was a twist I didn't see coming as far as what his motivation was and the product that they were selling at the gas station.
The place where he took her, I didn't see that coming into the place.
It was fun, right?
Yeah, so I do recommend Thrasch and Apex by my Cool the Week.
It's available to purchase.
I don't know if it's available to rent at the moment.
It is Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, the whole bloody affair.
Ah, I did not even know this was out.
This is his original way he planned to release the movie as one movie instead of two.
Okay.
So if you got four hours to spend,
I recommend you watch this because there are added scenes.
The fight at the restaurant at the club with the Crazy 88 is in full color.
It doesn't go black and white and there's added gore and there's added musical moments.
Not like musical.
Like they start singing and dancing.
You almost had me, Brian.
Yeah.
Lucy Lou.
Uh,
introduction, if you remember,
was they told her backstory
through an anime.
Yes, I do remember that.
That is extended.
Okay.
And it's a fun time.
I mean,
if you enjoyed the two movies separate,
then you got to watch him
as he intended to have it.
I'm going to check this out.
So it's,
but it's four hours.
Did you watch it all together
or in,
in waves?
Did you like watch a little bit?
I watched it in two nights.
Two nights, okay.
Yeah, I planned on watching it one night, but I got called to do some family stuff.
So I had to pause it and picked it up the next night and had fun with it.
Because I enjoy both movies separately, so just to see his vision together with all the extra stuff that they had to cut out.
Right, right.
It was super cool.
So it's Kill Bill the whole bloody affair, right?
Yeah.
All right.
What else?
That is all I had to see.
I was going to start the new Apple TV Plus show Widows Bay.
I saw the ad for that.
I'm hearing a lot of good things about it.
People are saying it's like the perfect blend of horror and comedy.
Yeah, I saw the poster for it, like when I was scrolling through Apple TV.
But that's about it. I didn't know anything about it.
So mix of horror and comedy.
I didn't get that from the art.
I was going to start.
Tales from the Crypt is now on Shudder.
They're releasing a new season of it every Friday.
So all new stuff then?
No, the original series.
Never been on streaming before.
No shit.
Okay.
Yeah.
But you would think it would be on HBO Max.
I guess there was some kind of rights issue.
Gotcha.
Yeah, because it was on HBO originally, right?
Weren't we doing those for Patreon there for a little bit?
And we lost half the recordings we did?
Yeah, that happened.
We'll pick it up one day.
Okay.
And now we know where to watch them at.
That we do.
That we do.
All right.
But that's all I got.
Do you have a not-so-cool of the week, Brian?
The Rockets.
Hey, you never know. They may pull a red socks and they may come back down three and oh. It's possible. All they got to do is win tonight and win one more game, Brian. Never give up.
Never give up.
Although with KD with his fucking bone bruise, you never know, right?
Yeah, I'm not sold on him anymore.
I know I don't want to think that, but I'm kind of like thinking it if you catch my meaning.
But I heard rumors he's
There's a rumor
Because there's
There's
Adding two more teams to the league
And one of them is possibly
Another team to Seattle
Okay
And I hear
It's just rumors
But I hear him
Signing with that new team
To kind of finish his career
Where he started
Sure
I mean
But why would they sign him
If he doesn't show any
Well he is injured
Right
I mean, you can't hold that against him.
Because a bone bruise is not a laughing matter.
I was reading up on it, and it's like basically your blood vessels underneath your bone, you know, kind of explode.
Yeah, and he is definitely all bone.
Yeah, no doubt.
Yeah, my wife, AJ likes to say he's like the ugliest man in basketball.
I'm like, damn, that's cold blood.
She said he is not a good looking man.
I said, okay.
We like him because of his basketball skills, not because of his looks.
She said, well, that's not why I watch the games with you.
I'm like, okay.
All right, we covered my cool of the week.
It's thrash.
I loved it.
I was really happily surprised with this one, but we've kind of talked about it a little bit already.
What else did I see, Brian?
Oh, we talked about Apex.
I saw Apex.
What are we watching as far as TV right now?
We're still going through, oh, the new season of Outlander.
Have I told you about this one?
The Scottish Ronald D. Moore, based on the novels.
They're in their eighth and final season.
They're actually covering every single one of the books that was written,
but it's a historical...
Is this the one that had Opie on it?
No, Opie's not in it.
What show am I thinking of?
I'm not sure.
Where he was like, he looked just like his character from Sons of Anarchy.
Yeah, I think that was like a Viking.
Wasn't that like a Viking show or something like that?
I think he was like a mountain man in the Appalachian Mountains or something.
Well, that's not this one.
This one takes place in, well, it's time travelers because they've got,
they've got these stone monuments in Scotland.
that they're able to go to and touch,
and they'll go to like to the future in the past.
But it kind of takes place like in the 1600s in Scotland,
and then they go forward to the 1950s and then, or the 1940s,
and then they go back to Scotland in the 1700s,
and then they go over to America and fight the Revolutionary War.
There's a lot going on, but realize it's over eight books, right?
So it's not as chaotic as it.
sounds, but that one's finally wrapping up.
We saw Season 2 of Beef.
Did you catch the first season of this one, Brian?
I love the first season, but there was just something about the trailer for season 2 that just wasn't catching me.
Dude, it's got Carrie Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, and several other people that you're going to know.
Yeah, how's that girl from Alien Romulus?
Correct. Yeah, the one that was in Civil War, right? That looks like a little girl, basically, but she's 28 years old. It looks like she's 16.
Yeah, and the guy that she's paired up with, I know he's from that war movie we were talking about a couple weeks of warfare.
That's right. Yes, full circle. He was in warfare. I enjoyed it, but it definitely, Brian, it does not hold a candle to season one.
So your instincts are correct there, but it is only like eight episodes.
I mean, I'll check it out.
Yeah.
Something was telling me I didn't need to get to it right away.
I would absolutely check it out.
It is absolutely worth a watch.
Is it going to be like in my top five TV shows of the year?
Probably not.
You know, whereas that first season easily was.
Oh, definitely.
Yeah, it's worth a watch, man.
But it doesn't have Glenn, unfortunately.
I like what's her name too, Ali Wong.
Oh, yeah.
They kind of made it, didn't they?
They were like perfect together.
Yeah, their hatred for each other.
Yes.
Well, this one's not even like that, dude.
It's like it starts out with a little hatred,
and then it kind of like goes in all these different directions,
and then toward the end they kind of try to bring it back to being a beef.
But, I mean, watch it, Brian, to be a completest.
And like I said, it's only eight episodes, and they're like probably 45 minutes each on average.
So it's definitely worth it.
Oh, my not so cool of the week.
Are you ready?
I'm ready.
A little movie, the book I loved.
But this is a little movie that I like to call Hail Mary.
I was not impressed with a fucking Ryan Gosling, one-man show.
show did not impress me, Brian.
You didn't like his relationship with Rocky?
No.
I loved it in the book.
It was okay when it got to that.
But dude, I didn't.
They turned it into a fucking comedy.
And the book was dead serious.
Like the book had a lot of math in it and a lot of, um,
you know,
different scientific theories about,
you know,
how you could,
you know,
travel almost at the speed of light and stuff like that.
And the movie just kind of lost all of it.
It just tried to be a fucking clown show to me.
What did you think?
I enjoyed it.
I mean, whether it be in my top ten movies of the year, no.
Probably not.
For what it was, I just, I don't know.
I dug the relationship between him and this alien.
Yeah, I could see that.
I mean, the premise is, you've seen it before.
There's something that's going to kill the earth,
and we need to send something out,
somebody out to fix it or find a way to fix it,
a la interstellar or...
Well, you name it, right?
There's been several like that.
Armageddon, right?
Yeah.
Oh, I did rewatch...
What's the other one, not Armageddon?
Deep Impact.
Yeah, the other killer asteroid movie?
That was a comet.
Ah, big difference, right?
Big difference.
Can't compare the two.
Okay.
Even though they came out, I think, in the same year.
Right, right.
They did.
That one's ridiculous.
Kind of like the two volcano movies, remember?
They came out in the same year?
Oh, yeah.
That happens a lot, dude.
What were they called?
Dante's Peak and was the other one just a volcano?
I think so.
I think so, man.
Sounds about right.
But that happens a lot, man.
They'll be like, I don't know how that happens, right?
Is it like they shop an idea around?
Well, that happened with the James Franco movie last year, right?
They said somebody shopped the exact script and they came up.
Two different directors did kind of the same movie.
Allegedly.
Allegedly?
Nothing legal from what I understand even came from.
Yeah, but it does happen.
It's kind of weird.
Like this year we're getting two fighting game adaptations,
getting Mortal Kombat 2 and Street Fighter.
Oh, Street Fighter's coming out this year also.
Yeah, Mortal Kombat comes out, I think next weekend,
and then weirdly we're getting Street Fighter in October.
Just in time for Halloween.
Yeah.
All right, so for me, it's Thrash, Cool of the Week,
and for you, Brian, one more time.
Kill Bill the whole bloody affair.
Kill Bill the whole bloody affair.
Very nice.
Do we have any headlines this week?
We got a few.
We're going to start with TV or only TV news.
Andy Moosecetti reveals that season two of It Welcome to Derry is now in the works.
Of course, yeah.
It will be set in 1935.
The new season will follow the Bradley gang.
and a terrifying encounter with something lurking in Derry.
The Bradley Gang.
Okay.
So what else do we got?
I'm in.
I'm in.
We have Curry Barker's movie Obsession coming up in a couple weeks.
A lot of people talking about that one, Brian.
A lot of people talking about that.
A lot of people talking about next week's movie, Hocom.
Yep.
Big month for horror in May.
I'm excited. I'm looking forward to Hocum. It's actually playing here in my local theater, Brian, several times each day.
Oh, nice. He has already wrapped filming his next movie titled Anything But Ghost, and it will star Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, and Violet McGraw. She is the little girl from Megan Matherigan.
Okay. Plot details are still under wraps. I'm assuming since it's rap.
filming, we'll get some kind of news on plot or a teaser or something here soon.
Yeah, sounds interesting. I'm in.
But he is in demand. I don't know if you listened to Last Week's show, but he is also doing
the, they're calling it a reimagining of Texas Chainsaw Masker for A24.
I don't know about that. Like Nez said, do we really need another one?
But, Brian, speaking of last week's show, since you brought it up, I have, I have something
I have something to bring up with you, man.
I have a proposal.
All right.
If the last time you saw a musical play was in high school, we need to get you to New York, my friend.
Oh, if I'm in New York and somebody pays for it, I'll check out something.
All right.
Yeah, you're missing out, dude.
It's quite an event.
And what AJ and I have done before is we'll go to dinner.
We took the two granddaughters to see a lot.
They had the musical play Aladdin on Broadway.
Yeah, it's a whole affair, dude.
You go out and you have something.
First of all, you get a nice hotel that you way overpay for, right?
Of course.
And he'd get a nice dinner.
You know, you go to see the play.
And the granddaughters each got their own play bill.
I think they still have those, dude.
They hand those out when the play starts.
it always says playbill on the front
and then you open it and shows you who's in it
and the understudies and who wrote it
who directed it
now that I'm thinking of it I might have
seen something in Vegas
I'll bet you did dude they have a lot of it's in Vegas
is a blue man group count
yes that counts absolutely
I've seen them
even though I was heavily heavily
intoxicated
sedated
Okay.
I think they count on that.
Got a little weird when they started climbing on the chairs, and I was all kind of like, uh-huh.
Were you tripping?
Were you on shrooms or anything?
You could say that.
Maybe so, maybe no, huh?
As they say.
Yeah, and it also carried over to medieval times.
Did you see Jim Carrey there and Matthew Broderick?
No, but I might have got a little weirded out by a little person that was running on my table.
I'm sure you did
Oh man
We got to plan a trip
They've actually got the universal
Park open there now
Brian and Vegas
Year round
They got like three or four haunts in there
That are open year round
Me and my daughter want to do the
What's the thing, the spear?
Yes
I'd love to see that
A concert there
Says it's like super expensive
Yeah that's the only thing
holding me back
if I'm being honest.
We were talking about the,
they do the Wizard of Oz,
and they had the flames and wind and all kinds of stuff.
Never heard of that.
Yeah, you watched a movie,
and when there's like fire,
there's like flames shooting out places
and wind hitting you in the face.
And what he said,
that would be something he would have to take the grandkids to.
And just to see it,
him and his family would be spending like 400 bucks
just to watch.
to watch it.
Yeah, I think I'll just
fantasize about it
at those prices.
Although, I'm kind of surprised
they didn't play
Pink Floyd the Dark Side of the Moon
along with the Wizard of Oz.
You've heard of that phenomenon
before, Brian?
Oh, that it matches up?
Yeah, and it does.
It does.
I've done it.
Okay, let's see.
What else we got?
A movie that I think is due
for a rewatch,
because I know we were
reviewed it back in the early days was
1981's possession
starring Sam Neal
a while ago it was said that
Parker Finn who does the smile movies
was directing a remake to it with
Robert Pattinson producing
it is officially
happening Parker Finn will write and direct
and it will star Margaret Qualley
from
the man the one where they were models the substance the substance yeah that's a lot of talent
and calum turner i think he was in the newest knives out movie okay oh did he play the priest
the main guy i think so i think that's him okay okay i assume he's like an irish or british actor
Yeah, I think he's also in a new Steven Spielberg movie Disclosure Day.
Okay.
Maybe he plays the alien, right?
I don't know.
From what I understand, Stephen Spielberg said nothing in the third act will be in trailers or teasers or anything promotional.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, you guys mentioned that last week, so.
Yeah, so I appreciate that.
Yeah, we don't see that all the time, do we?
Yeah, so according to this, this core class.
is getting a modern twist, and it's already said that fans are already divided over it.
Let's see. Radio Silences, the Mummy 4 is officially set for a Halloween 2027 release date.
27. Yeah.
I'm about to pull a Philip and say, get off my lawn.
He gets pissed about those late release dates, doesn't he?
Yeah, but you got to think, you don't want to...
you want to release something that's not competing with.
Like, I still don't, I don't know how the, what are they calling it, Dune's Day?
The next Dune movie?
They call it Dune's Day because Dune Part 3 and Avengers Dune's Day come out on the same day.
I don't know how that's going to work.
That makes zero sense, man.
And I think Dune Part 3 is getting most of the IMAX theaters.
I mean, Marvel hasn't shown us much lately.
have they?
I understand the movie's done filming
and they keep releasing these little
30 second teasers and
keeping everything underwraps
and I'm ready to see something.
Brian, speaking to Marvel,
have you seen
Wonder Man the series yet?
I've started it. I do enjoy it.
Is it good? Okay. I was a little worried.
They're playing a lot.
some of the stuff in the show
they play off of a superhero movie fatigue.
So it's very self-aware then.
Yeah, because he's an actor
auditioning for a role as a superhero.
And that's probably why they have
the Mandarin character in there, right?
Yeah, because he meets him in the first episode
at the audition.
Yes. Does he stay in the series or do you know?
I've only seen two,
episode. So I'm going to say he probably does because they kind of hit it off in the first
episode. I got you. Well, the Daredevil stuff is all good, right? That's consistent from what I
understand. I haven't seen the new season of that yet either. Lance, I am behind on every show.
Yeah, I am too. I am on episode three of the new season. Okay. I just finished Squid game.
I haven't got to the episode, I think it's four, which is supposed to be.
the highest rated Marvel thing out of all their television shows.
Okay.
I think I'm kind of dropped off a Daredevil because, you know, as you know, I post news
and stuff on our social media, so I'm always looking at stuff.
Yes. Okay.
Everything that happens on Daredevil, people are just posting everything.
Right.
So that kind of took it out.
So, all right.
And the last thing we talked about
Behind the Mass 2, the return to Leslie Vernon
was announced and it was going to start a Kickstarter
to fund the movie.
It reached its goal within, I think,
it was 24 minutes of the Kickstarter.
Mission accomplished.
Yes, the Kickstarter is still going.
And, of course, there's perks and stuff you can get for donating,
but they hit their mark,
so we're officially getting behind the Mass 2.
All right. Probably long overdue, right?
Yeah.
According to our March Madness anyway.
Yeah, and that is the news.
All right. So now it's time for Brian to bring us the big, the small, and sometimes the very, very weird.
Brian, what do we get at the trailer park tonight?
The first one is Affection, starring Jessica Roth.
Of course, you remember her as Tree from Happy Death Day movie.
Oh, yeah.
Joseph Cross
and directed by B.T. Meza.
Okay.
Let's see.
Synopsis.
Ellie confronts a disturbing condition,
resetting her memory.
Unable to recognize her husband and daughter,
each reset, disorients her,
leaving haunting recollections of an unfamiliar life.
I'm glad you told me that,
because I got none of that from the trailer.
yeah after i did i was a little confused watching the trailer and then i read the synopsis watched the trailer
and and it might be possible but that that's not her husband okay i think that's where i think
the movie might be gone neither that or she has a the way i kind of see the movie going is that he's
lying to her about being her husband and then the consequences are going to be mad when she
remembers who she really is
because I think she might have something darker
in her past she can't remember.
Yeah, could be.
I mean, I'll give it a shot.
I definitely liked her in the
Happy Death Day movies.
Of course, certain people in Australia didn't, right, Brian?
I don't think it went over very well in Australia
from what Tim tells me, but...
I thought he loved it.
love those movies.
I don't know about that.
I enjoyed him.
I'm looking forward to seeing her.
I saw her in the trailer and I'm like,
I thought I recognized her, but...
I would have thought she did more.
Did she?
I don't know.
This trailer, I'm kind of lost.
I have no idea what's going on.
I'm glad you at least kind of described it,
but I'll give it a shot, you know, for sure.
Okay, this hits limited.
It's getting a limited theater.
lace next week
May 8th. Oh, already? Damn.
Okay. Well, we won't be watching
it for the podcast then, will we?
No. Next one is
I believe from Neon, and
it is Leviticus
starring Joe Bird.
I recognize him from Talk to Me.
He was the brother that
talked to the hand and ended up smashing his
face on a table.
Gives a whole new meaning to talk to the hand,
huh? Yeah, Stacey
Lawson, directed by Adrian Chiarilla.
Let's see, synopsis.
Two teenage boys must escape a violent entity
that makes the form of the person they desire most to each other.
Huh.
So it kind of looks...
It looks sinister, right?
It looks sinister.
Yeah, it kind of looked like maybe this whole church thing in the movie was like a conversion camp.
Okay, could be.
could be and something supernatural happens and as the synopsis says brings on an entity that takes
the form of what they desire most and it's clearly each other so it looks interesting
i definitely i definitely got that uh that satanic feel that demon yeah i don't think this is a regular
church yeah it didn't seem to be right and i mean it might not be
be a conversion thing because there was a young lady taking a shower and they were talking about, like,
the voiceover was talking about being indecent and stuff like that. So, right. Maybe it's much more
than a conversion camp. I don't know. That would be an interesting plot line, though, you know? I mean,
there's definitely a lot of horror involved in, you know, trying to take somebody's true nature
and twisted on them and steal it from them.
So there's a lot of horror to that so I can see it.
But I don't know, man.
I'm curious to see how this one turns out.
We'll see.
But I can tell you, AJ will not be accompanying me to this film
because anything having to do with the devil, Satan, demons.
She's like completely out.
When is this one coming out?
June 19.
Okay. We'll see.
And finally, we got the teaser to Zach Kregers, or Krieger, I don't know how you pronounce it.
Resident Evil, starring Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Houser, and Callie Reyes.
Let's see, synopsis.
The movie follows a hapless courier task with delivering a package to a remote hospital.
He soon finds himself caught in the middle of an outbreak and must fight.
through hordes of mutated creatures and cute creatures to survive.
Now, there's been some controversy with the fans of the game,
because I guess he has said that this is not a remake of the game.
This is its own story that takes place during the events of the game.
So he didn't change anything from the game.
That could be a good thing, right?
Yeah.
I'm into it.
Another thing that I like that he said in an interview recently was the zombies weren't going to be the main focus of the movie.
The zombies are going to be there, but he's also going to focus on other mutated creatures and stuff like that.
Like those arms that were coming around the door or whatever?
Yeah.
Huh.
Yeah, it definitely looks, it looks interesting.
He's never let us down, right?
Crager's never let us down.
I mean, as far as, I know there was some people that didn't like weapons.
I like that.
But as far as I'm concerned, yeah, as far as I'm concerned, he's two for two.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's, there was definitely one, you know, one part.
I don't know if I'd call it a scene, but there was one part of the trailer that it made me feel like I was in a video game, you know, with a lot of fast cuts and stuff like that.
in the shooting.
So I'm not a video game guy,
but if it's a well-made movie,
I'll watch it in this.
I'll give Zach Craigor a shot.
I'll put it that way.
Yeah.
And as far as I understand,
he said he grew up playing these games.
He's a massive fan.
He knows how to make a movie, so.
Oh, for sure.
Do you think it's going to be better than the,
what was the one we had to see
about six months ago, Brian?
Part two.
The town.
With all the fog.
I can't even remember the name.
It was so bad.
Storage.
Cold storage?
No.
No, it was before that one.
It was from last year, man.
Holy shit, dude.
Was it Resident Evil?
It was one of these zombie games.
It was part two of the little town that they went to.
And the guy almost, she almost got run over with his Mustang,
and then she was going to get on the bus.
He knocked over her luggage.
Return to Silent Hill.
I completely forgot we watched that movie.
I can tell.
I was like the fog.
I'm like struggling here to explain a movie we reviewed six months ago, Brian.
This little teaser is better than that entire movie.
The entire movie.
Okay.
And he was one of my favorite characters.
Uh-huh.
Weapons, Austin Abrams.
He was the drug addict kid.
Oh, okay.
I know who you're talking about.
All right.
So, and Paul Walter Houser, I like him.
That's a Stingray from Cobra Kai.
Ah, okay.
I didn't know that.
And Callie Reyes is from, she's from a bunch of stuff,
but I think you've seen her in the last season of True Detective.
The one in Alaska.
Yeah, she's partnered up with Jody Foster.
Yeah, of course, of course.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
I, again, I would say that with Zach Kregor at the helm, I've got no worries.
This is going to be a good movie.
They could, they could make a movie out of Pac-Man, and if he directed it, I would have faith.
I'll put it to you that way.
Yeah.
This hits theater September 18th.
All right.
So that's it for the trailers?
Yep, that's it.
All right.
So that means it is on to our favorite section of the show, Brian.
Listener feedback.
And we're going to start with, we've got some good ones tonight.
We're going to start with podcast Spotlight.
And this week it shines on Blood Splat Podcast.
Have you ever watched a horror movie and thought I could have totally survived this by being less of an idiot?
Yes, we used to have a section.
In our podcast that Brian hosted called Stupid People, if you remember that, Brian.
It could come back one day.
Okay.
Deep dive with Marcus and Allen as they review their favorite horror movie franchises,
talk behind-the-scenes trivia, and tell you how they would have survived the movie.
Each season will feature a different franchise, including all of its sequels and reboots.
With a few bonus episodes for standalone movies, join them on the couch as they discover that,
Lord never ends. It just rewinds.
I like that. Okay.
Blood Splat Podcast.
Shout out, guys.
All right. Regarding faces of death,
Matt Wood posted,
Why the fuck am I watching this?
Can you answer that question, Brian?
I asked myself that when we reviewed it.
Well, Darren Wilson had an answer.
He said, because you didn't watch it when you were 12,
like the rest of us?
And Mark...
Oh, man, help me out here.
Mark Komersinski says,
Just happened to rewatch it this past Friday while killing some time.
I think this was the first time I have seen it since the mid-90s.
Anyway, I knew the hype and the urban legend that is faces of death even back then.
It was like the forbidden fruit.
That came up a few times with all the guys when we were talking about it.
Forbidden fruit.
Forbidden fruit of VHS rentals.
Oh, man.
Was it ever a disappointment?
and when I watched
on Friday, I was even more convinced
how lame it is.
Nothing more than a conversation
at peace at best.
I think Nez would agree with him.
Yeah.
All right, moving on.
Mark has more for us.
Regarding Friday the 13th,
the final chapter,
Mark also says,
Awesome entry.
This and part three are my favorites
with the two best Jason actors,
in my opinion.
Are you sure this Mark
Kamersensky isn't Nez using an alias, Brian?
I don't know. I kind of agree with him.
Yeah?
Part 3 is up there just because of the disco version of the theme song.
Okay.
Craig Park says long legs too?
Pass. No, one was crap.
What is this guy talking about? What movie did he see?
There's quite a few people that didn't like long legs.
Really?
Yeah, and from what I understand, I don't think it's going to be, the sequel's going to be a sequel to Long Legs.
It's in the Long Legs universe.
Universe?
Well, that's stupid.
So it's not going to have Nicholas Cage in it?
Oh, he's going to be in it.
Same character?
Yeah.
Huh.
Okay.
Reserve judgment.
All right.
Pat Caruso says, my father made me watch them, all capital letters, them.
With him when I was a little kid, that noise the ants make is ingrained in my brain.
Are they remaking this brain?
Yeah, with, what's his name?
Steve hates him.
To be a guy from running man.
You for Sutherland?
No, from Running Man.
Dane to Hun?
Oh, Glenn Powell.
Yeah.
Okay.
I think he's, they're neither talking to him to be in the movie or he is in a movie.
remember which one.
He's not terrible, I have to say.
I've seen interviews with him.
He's grown on me, and I appreciate a guy that's into barbecue and names his dog brisket.
Kind of a Matthew McConaughey type, huh?
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, we'll see how it goes.
All right, regarding Night of the Living Dead, I think this is the newest when y'all watched the trailer for last week.
Arthur Crosby says
There are three versions of the same movie now
I'm waiting for a Muppet
Oh man I am too
Are you waiting for a Muppet version Brian?
I definitely watch a Muppet version
of the night of a living dead
Absolutely
All right regarding over your dead body
Alex Burim says
A remake of the excellent
Norwegian film The Trip
With Numi Rapace
Like all remakes
It's bound to be a complete disaster
I've never seen so many good films ruined
just like they did with death at a funeral
they ruin the movie or even martyrs among many others
what are your thoughts on that man
I think he's completely wrong
I don't think I think there's a lot of great remakes
I do too some are better right
yeah speaking of better ones
you take the hills have eyes
and last house on the left
those were
agreed
movies that surpassed, in my opinion, surpass the original.
I would kind of be with you on that, man.
They did kind of surpass the original.
Although, I don't know, the originals for both those were good in their own way,
but they were very much a product of their time.
And the remakes got them right now.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, you know.
It's an entertaining, it's not better than the original one.
Agreed.
Yeah, agreed.
You do have a nightmare on Elm Street remake is horrible.
I agree.
But I don't know.
The Fly technically is a remake.
Yeah.
Well, so is the thing for that matter.
Yeah.
If you really want to get technical.
Yeah, I'd 100% disagree with this guy.
Okay.
Well, we'll see what we think of...
He didn't even bring up a horror movie off top.
as an example,
death of the funeral.
Is that the remake the one?
That's more of a comedy,
isn't it?
Is that the one with like Martin Lawrence?
I think so.
I thought that one was funny.
Isn't that the one where the father died
and they found out he had a gay lover?
Yeah.
It was like Peter Dinklage or something.
That's right.
James Marsden got high off acid.
That was not bad.
What is this guy talking about, man?
that was not a bad movie.
I mean, he brought up the martyrs remake.
That one compared to the original one,
because the original one is part of that French extremist.
Okay.
Rage that was going on back then,
and the remake does not hold up to the original one.
I guess I could see that.
I mean, I don't really remember either one of them,
if I'm being completely honest.
I just think he picked two obscure movies.
to set as examples.
Are we getting a little bit messed with here, man?
I don't know.
I mean, I've always said,
I don't care, remake whatever.
Right.
If it's entertaining, it's entertaining.
But if it's not,
I'll still always have the original one.
They definitely fucked up the Exorcist, right?
Yeah.
They definitely fucked up Halloween.
Yeah.
Both.
I mean, Rob Zombie's Halloween was okay.
but it still fucked up the original.
Would you agree?
I liked his first one,
the second one he lost me
with the whole white horse thing.
Okay.
But I also hear,
I also hear that was kind of,
the second one was kind of a middle finger
to the studio.
Ah, well, that's his right, I guess, to do that.
What do you think about the,
the Pineapple Express guy's version of Halloween?
I like the first two.
Okay.
And they completely just...
Yes, I'm listening, Brian.
Completely left on the third one.
But they had me at the first one, though.
Yeah, well...
I thought they did a lot of good with the first one.
The second one at least was violent as hell, right?
It had a lot of great kill scenes in it.
Yeah, I mean, it definitely lived up to the title,
Halloween kills.
I do remember with the first one, Brian,
that it was like at the movie theater
and also streaming on the exact
same day. Do you remember that?
Yeah. And I thought that was neat.
Peacock.
Yeah. Peacock did that with
Five Nights of Freddy's.
That one I wasn't as excited
about. It was okay.
Ness loved part two,
didn't he? Five Nights of Fredis.
I have to rewatch it because when he was
reviewing the second one with us, I was
like what movie are you talking about?
I know. Talking about like jumping in the water.
I mean, it's real deep swimming in it
in the little water ride inside the amusement park thing.
Yeah, I didn't hate the second one.
I just thought it was not as good as the first one,
at least for me.
And then he came with his enthusiasm.
He loved it.
Did he give it 10 on 10?
Something like that.
I think he did.
I don't know.
His review,
made me want to re-watch the movie.
Uh-huh.
Oh, man.
I don't know, man.
Remakes, what are you going to do?
Some are good, some are bad, and everybody's a critic, right?
Yeah, I just completely disagree that all remakes are garbage.
Yeah, me too.
You hear something's getting remade.
It's automatically going to be a disaster.
I don't think so.
The Craisies, that was a good remake.
Yeah, that was a good remake.
the one with the guy in the movie we're going to talk about tonight, right? Timothy
Elephant. Yeah. Billy Loomis' mother.
Yeah, that Crazy's remake wasn't bad. The first one was like okay, but the second one,
at least they had like a budget to work with. Sometimes you can take a really good idea
and a really good story and get some money to do a budget. You know what I still want, Brian,
is that remake or that TV series of the Warriors
that we were supposed to get?
Yeah.
I think it might be too late for that.
Well, that's a shame because I think they could have made
a really good, a really good series out of that.
Like, they could have had every episode,
like it could have been 10 episodes,
and the first one sets it up,
and then all the middle ones,
they run into a different gang.
Each episode, yeah, that sounds cool.
that would be awesome dude and then like the last one or two episodes they wrap it up
but oh well like we're not writing them we're not putting up the money for them so what do we know
the blob is another excellent remake blob is an outstanding remake i agree wholeheartedly
i think we can keep going on and um yeah um i was gonna say attack of the killer tomatoes
but they haven't come out with that one yet so we'll see reserved the new one's coming
coming out soon.
Allegedly, right?
Oh,
they said another sequel.
That's what I heard.
The Peter Dinklage remake wasn't very good, right?
The one we saw last year.
Oh, Toxic Avengers?
Yeah, that was not great.
Yeah.
Unfortunately.
Sometimes a hit, sometimes a miss.
I think it got hyped up too much for us.
Yeah, didn't they say people were?
like passing out in the...
Passing out. The reason why this movie got
sheled was because it was too
disturbing and gross to
be put in a movie theater.
That's right. I think they set the bar
so high that
we were expecting one thing. It's
probably, if we rewatch it, it's probably
not that bad.
It just doesn't hit those levels.
I would agree. Although I don't know about like
the sun being like a dancer
and having his fantasy
being like a ballet dancer.
Everybody has a dream, Lance.
I guess.
My dream, Brian, is for you to accompany us to Manhattan to go to Broadway for a musical.
How about that?
Oh, you wish it it'll come true, Lance.
Okay.
Maybe we'll see cats.
Or rents.
Boy, was that movie terrible, huh?
The Cats movie?
I've never seen it.
It was like a CGI nightmare.
It was like creatures.
Are they're supposed to know buttholes and they took them out or something?
I don't know.
But it was really, really bad.
Really bad.
That was just one of those, I guess, that did not translate very well from stage to screen, you know?
No, it did not.

We will let you pick the movies for a future show at any amount.
And for $5 or more a month, also pick a commentary.
For future bonus shows, speaking of which, Brian, our friend from the UK, Matt,
was supposed to be on a show with us a couple of weeks ago for Faces of Death.
And due to the fact that we start recording it like 3 a.m. his time,
he had to get his kids to bed
but he did reach out
and if we ever want to do
like kind of an earlier recording he's down
so we gotta make something work man
it's always fun to have Matt on the show
yeah absolutely
I've also talked to Matt I told him
if he we can't make it work
with something on the schedule
Matt has picked movies
for us to review
and whether we like the movies or not
we were not disappointed in what he picked.
Well, he definitely fucked us over with that one, that one thing.
Pink flamingos?
Yeah.
Hey, it was something to scratch off the list, even though it was never on my list.
All right, Brian.
I appreciate it.
It was a notorious movie I've never seen.
Yeah, same here.
Yeah, same here.
Yeah, they had people like eating, eating do-do out of the yard,
and they had like literal blowjobs going.
It was a movie.
On that note, are you ready for our main attractions?
Yes, sir.
All right, Brian, let's take a trip.
So from 2021, the trip,
a dysfunctional couple head to a remote cabin to reconnect,
but each has intentions to kill the other.
Spoiler alert, right?
I guess they have to say that.
Before they can carry...
True.
Before they can carry out their plans,
unexpected visitors arrive,
and they face a greater danger.
So this is the original,
as you corrected me earlier, Brian,
this is Norwegian,
and it is our wonderful writer-director,
Tommy Wickola,
also known for Dead Snow,
as well as several other films that we've seen.
And the only piece of trivia I could find
was that Roy has a dead snow tattoo
in addition to all of his fucking Nazi propaganda.
So Brian, what did you think of this one?
I was a little underwhelmed, to be honest.
Okay.
I thought the action was mild.
Yeah?
The horror aspect of it was lacking
and the comedy wasn't hitting for me at times.
Huh.
This has been,
on my list to watch because I am a fan of Numi Rapace.
And I thought the premise was going to work for me, but it just, it wasn't chaotic enough for me.
I guess I can see that.
And I thought it was going to be way more violent than it came out to be.
And I just have to honestly say I was disappointed.
Wow.
Well, I mean, since it's just you and maybe, maybe what kind of.
round robin the talk about it. What do you think?
Yeah, let's do that.
See, I really love this one because I thought there was, actually for me, the comedy hit
spot on. For example, let me just give you one little example. So you've got the three
prisoners that have escaped from the prison institution in Norway or whatever, however
they do it there. They managed to escape. And they're going through the woods.
And they're trying to find a place to kind of like lay low.
Because I think, did they say it had already been three days or two days that they were out?
I think so.
All right.
So one of them is so fucking stupid.
You ever heard that expression, dumb as a box of rocks?
That would be Roy, the big Nazi.
So fucking Roy goes and they're like walking and he's like, I'm hungry.
Or they look at him and he's picking berries off of a tree.
To me, they look like cherries.
I don't know what kind of fruit they grow in Norway,
but in any case,
he's picking berries off a random bush in the forest.
Brian, when I was a young boy, I was in the Boy Scouts.
The first thing they teach you is if you don't know what it is,
don't eat it.
That was lesson number one when you're camping.
Okay?
So Roy starts pulling these little, quote-unquote,
berries that kind of looked like cherries off and eating them. And I'm like, okay, we all know where
this is going. Maybe that's what you didn't like. Was it too predictable?
Yeah, I kind of saw things coming before it happened.
I got a big kick out of it. When they were all in the attic and he had to take a shit,
you knew it was coming, right? There's no doubt. You knew it was coming. For me, it paid off
really well. And some of the other little jokes, like, you know, when she's trying to seduce him,
I guess I really liked Roy.
What can I say?
A big, a big, lovable Nazi, right?
He kind of reminded me of Henry Rollins a little bit, the punk rock singer.
It was in Black Flag.
Yeah, I guess all three of them were supposed to be serial killers.
I guess?
I don't know.
I mean, I thought the main dude, I can't remember the names exactly.
Roy, of course.
Peter, Dave, and Roy.
All right, so who was the main guy?
It was kind of like leading them and inspiring.
Okay.
I liked him a lot because the voice, the voiceover.
Whoever was, I didn't watch it with subtitles.
I watched it with a voiceover.
And I found him to be really intimidating.
And I found him to be very manipulative.
And I kind of enjoyed that.
But the scene where Roy was trying to be seduced by the wife.
Obviously, she's pretty hot.
She's not a bad-looking woman.
And obviously they're all horny, right?
Because they've been in prison for who knows how long.
Oh, yeah, they attempted to rape Lars.
Yeah, we got to go into that.
That's hilarious.
But I thought it was kind of funny when she said,
don't you want me?
And he said, but you're a, you're a...
And I had no idea what he was going to say, did you?
was he going to say you're a woman
you're a Jew
oh is that what he's going to say
yeah because he was the Nazi remember
oh okay
anyway for me that kind of
stupid comedy hit just right
and yeah obviously
the pool table rape scene
what did you think about that
I mean it was a good
intimidation factor
to it
because it worked
it broke her
because she didn't want to see him get raped.
Right.
And I think she was going to take him what to the bank to get the money or something.
Allegedly.
Yeah, which they did not have money because they were trying to kill each other for insurance money.
Yeah, exactly.
And like as much as they hated each other, like that got them to finally kind of come together.
I don't know, man, you're kind of talking me out of it now because that was kind of unbelievable, wasn't it?
as much hatred as they had and all of a sudden she's wanting to save him from being raped?
Yeah, because they actually, at least from what I remember on his part,
attempted to kill somebody.
Right.
And they just forgave and forget and forgave by the end.
Yeah, that's kind of a stretch, isn't it?
You're talking me down, Brian.
I mean, it would have been more believable for me if they did.
end up working together to survive and profited off of this situation like they did at the end but
went their separate ways.
You know what?
Now that you mentioned it, I was kind of expecting to see that, like a final scene where they,
you know, they like, they got past all this and then all of a sudden they tried to kill each other again.
That would have been cool.
But I did love the setup.
I have to admit, I love the setup of, um, did you see all of it coming or did some of it
surprise you at least.
The pool table scene
surprised me because I didn't think they were going to
go there. Okay.
What they call that guy, Queer Dave or whatever?
I think so.
I'm trying to think, was there anything
when they got revealed to be there
in the house when they came crashing through.
Right. And I didn't see that
coming either. Oh yeah, because they did it with
flashbacks. Like they would show you
scenes and then all of a sudden you'd see a flashback
and it's like, ah!
Now it makes sense that there were corn flakes on the floor when he was walking across it.
That was kind of clever.
You have to admit.
Yeah.
I don't know.
This movie just, this was always recommended to me.
So I think just like we were talking with the toxic adventure, I think maybe this just got hyped up.
Overhyped a little?
Just like the gentleman and listener feedback said this was a,
excellent movie
all-time
classic or whatever the fuck he was saying
that's saying a lot
huh? Let me go back and see what he said
okay yeah because that's that's strong words
a remake of an excellent
Norwegian film excellent
okay well I don't know about excellent
it was good
I enjoyed it yeah it was decent
it's on Netflix
yeah that's a plus
since we're already paying our $250 a year for Netflix or whatever it is.
Gosh, a fucking crime raised their prices now.
It's insane, isn't it?
Yeah, because it was like $2.99 added if you want no ads.
And now it's like $4.99.
Phillips saw all this coming, Brian, with CBS All Access.
if you recall that very first conversation we all had.
Yeah.
And Phillips said,
this is the beginning of the end, didn't he?
I guess, I mean...
How right he was.
I don't know how this Paramount Warner Brothers thing is going to work out.
You see that thing?
There was like a thousand, like,
actors and directors and writers
and other people that work in the industry
signed a petition to block the sale.
No, I never saw that.
Yeah, it was like all these people in the industry got together and signed his petition.
Damn, never heard that one.
Well, I hope they don't petition or sign themselves out of a job.
That'll be okay.
They got millions.
You'd think so, okay.
Anything else about this one, man?
No, it was just a little disappointing to me.
It's not a bad movie.
I'm a big fan of New Meera Pace.
The guy that played her husband, Lars, he was pretty good in it.
It was just a little predictable and a little overhype for me.
What did you think about the dad?
I'm getting him confused with the one from the remake.
And that's a problem, and we're going to get into that when we talk about the next movie.
And I'm going to explain why for me it's a big problem.
But what did you think about the one in this one?
Or can you even differentiate him at this point?
well it was kind of the same well well he was talking about being in the war and you know you young kids should be in a war that'll make a man out of you yeah
i don't know i just thought it was kind of ridiculous how he came in in the fast and furious car and yeah it was kind of it was kind of definitely kind of silly when the neighbor drove by in that super slow a little electric car yeah and then went and told him in the the nursing home yeah and then he broke he
broke out of the nursing home.
Yeah, I was just like, okay.
You ready to move on?
Yeah.
Score?
Five.
I'll give it a seven.
I was going to give it an eight, dude, but you talked me down a little bit.
I thought it was clever.
I definitely think it was an original idea.
You know, I love the way that they kind of slow-rolled it out, right?
Like you saw very, very slowly it unfolded what he was up to.
and the whole movie was from his point of view
and then they changed it to her point of view
when he thought he had the better of her,
but she had that taser.
And then they changed it to, you know,
there's these people in the house with you.
I thought it was clever, so I'll give it a seven.
Moving on, over your dead body, 2026,
a dysfunctional, oh man, this is like,
stop me if you've heard this description before.
This is almost the literal life.
for line description of the prior movie.
A dysfunctional married couple
retreats to a secluded
cabin to repair their
relationship, but he secretly plots
to murder the other.
Director,
Jorba...
It's like a completely different movie.
See, that's what I loved about the one
that came out last year that we
saw Speak No Evil.
The first movie
I absolutely loved it. In fact,
it was in my top 10, and it was also
Norwegian, but I hate
did the ending. I thought
why would they lay down and let these people
throw rocks at them and kill them and take their children?
I fucking
loved the remake
where it was the Americans that said,
fuck you, we're going to grab your guns and shoot
you. Did
that happen with this movie? We're going to talk
about it.
Director, Jarma Tocone,
who was a head writer on Saturday Night
Life for several years.
Writers, Tommy Wakola,
there you go, with Nick Ball
and
John Niven.
Here's the trivia.
Director Jormann Tacone missed several episodes of the Lonely Island
and the Seth Myers podcast to film this movie in Finland.
That'd be fun.
Yeah.
What'd you think, Brian?
How did it compare?
Spoilers.
This is the same exact fucking movie.
Thank you.
The only one thing I can even remember,
because I saw this like a week ago.
Okay.
The one thing I can remember that was different was one of the escaped convicts was a female instead of a male.
Yeah, a guard that was guarding them.
It fell in love with Timothy Allifant's character.
Yeah, the only thing that I could remember was different.
Everything else was pretty much a shot-for-shot remake.
Absolutely, yeah.
cheap cheap cheap
With that being said
We are fans of Samar Weaving
So it's definitely a treat to see her every time
I guess
Oh you don't like Samara Weaving
No I love her
But this I was really disappointed with this movie dude
So disappointed
They didn't change a fucking thing Brian
I don't even know how we can do a spoiler alert this week
Because we've already run down the plot line of the prior movie
not even the ending had a
twist to it. I was so disappointed.
All right, let's just give our scores now
and jump right into spoilers.
Sure. Because there's no way to do this.
Yeah.
Just for the Samara weaving
aspect, I'll give it a five
and a half.
Okay, just for the fact that they took a semi-clever movie
and literally remade it
and were super lazy, I'll give it a
four.
All right.
Spoilers.
All right.
This is a motherfucking
spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
Everything from the original movie is in this other than Julia Lewis plays one of the three.
And they changed her from an escape convict to,
a prison guard that helped them escape.
Everything is the same.
Right down to the
Jason Siegel
who plays the character
that was Lars in the original one.
His dad has the same fucking exact scene
where he steals the fucking fast and furious
car and hits the
Timothy Oliphon.
Literal same scene, right?
I got to say,
I did like the inclusion of, I don't
know if you know him from his MMA days, Keith Jardine.
Okay.
The bald guy.
I don't, which one are you talking about?
The, um, Roy?
He was, was, was he the Roy in this one?
The big, the big, dumb guy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's right.
Yeah, I was a fan of his when he, in his fighting days.
He had an excellent nickname.
Keith Jardine, the dean of me.
Keith Jardine.
I got you, man.
Yeah.
It was fun seeing him in there.
Right.
But man, I don't know.
And everything was the same.
I bet if we go back and compare it,
I bet the dialogue was the same.
It was.
I don't know what they were writing.
It was because I saw the first movie
like Wednesday night.
And then I watched this one Thursday.
And it was like I was sitting in the theater
repeating the lines because it was literally
the same exact lines.
Why was there a team of three writers then?
I have no idea.
It makes zero sense, man.
I don't know why they would do this.
Who would you have picked to play the husband,
the guy that we first start following in the first movie?
What actor would you pick to play him?
Because somebody popped a mind immediately.
Other than Jason Segal?
Bill Burr.
Bill Burr?
Yeah, Bill Burr.
Bald-headed, kind of that same sarcastic.
castic. I thought Seagull was terrible casting, man. And Timothy Aliphant, dude, he's, in this one, he's
like super quiet and not scary at all. It was like he was his character from alien Earth, like he
was a fucking synthetic. Like he was a synthetic. Until the minute he jumped out of the window from upstairs,
maybe. That was fun. It was fun, but it was like off center. Yeah, instead of Jason Segal, I would do
Jason Statham.
I would pick Dane Dahan, but, you know, teach their own, right?
Dane Dahan could be his little friend that was supposed to help him in the beginning.
Same exact character, right?
They were even at a carnival again, weren't they?
When they planned everything?
Everything, man, was the same, right down to the father dying from the lawnmower.
everybody falling through the floor from the gunshot
right
but that's hilarious he got shot in the ass
okay so a character pissed in the attic instead of shit it in the attic
there you go
that's the difference
new movie
dude if they had if they had twisted this one at the end
and had her kill him
or decide that you know we've we've survived
these guys now I'm gonna fuck you up
like I planned in the beginning that
that would have I would have enjoyed that
especially with Samara weaving
but it was literally
the same movie beat for fucking beat
if you're going to do shot for shot
beat for beat
up the violence
up the chaos
the wackiness
just right
have Timothy Oliphon
hamming it up
hamming it up like how he did his character
Mickey from Scream 2
and I guess they kind of up the violence
a little Brian right
Like they had...
Yeah, there was some gore in there.
The shot, the gunshot, where
ripped the guy's head off.
I liked the part with Julia Lewis
after she got shot in the foot.
Oh, yeah.
And Jason Segal confronted her later
and just blew that big ass hole in her face.
So there was some moments like that,
but I wanted more of that.
If you're going to do the same damn movie,
up the violence.
That's fair enough.
I'll agree.
with you on that one.
Yeah, I just don't really know what
more to say, other than
I felt like I watched the same
movie twice, but I actually watched two
movies. I know, man.
I was even mixing up the characters,
like the dad and
the old guy that said,
you know, there's something going on at your house.
I'm like, looking back, Brian
and I literally, in my mind, I can't
differentiate which was which.
For all we know, they might have cast the same two
old guys. It might have been both movies.
movies. Yeah, Jason Segal was not the right person.
Not at all. You hire a comedic actor. There was nothing comedic that he was doing in the movie.
No. Pretty weak, dude. Pretty weak. Yeah. All right, well... I can't recommend this one. I cannot either.
Now, if you have no intentions on watching the original one,
and yeah, go ahead and watch this one.
I guess?
But watch the original one.
Yeah, I like the original better.
At least it had some, in my opinion, it had a little bit more, like, for example, the main antagonist, like I say, was a little bit more scary than Timothy Aliphon.
But I can't see Timothy Aliphon as a, you know, really frightening lead character, you know?
Yeah, he was cashing a paycheck with that.
this one. I think so.
I think they all were.
Like I said, Keith Jardine was fun in the role.
Julia Lewis was...
She gets crazy in her roles, and even I think she was
toned down a bit in this movie, too.
Yeah, I guess it kind of felt that way.
Hopefully next week will be better, Brian.
Oh, I've been hearing a lot about this movie,
