All right, welcome back everybody to The Horror Returns.
Coming to you from Alaska, Los Angeles, Tejas, and Florida.
Floraida.
Florida.
I'm Lance, tonight's host.
We got Pedro.
who got Philip.
Hi.
And we got, of course,
since it is an episode
of the whore returns,
that means naturally Brian is here,
as he's always here.
What's going on, Brian?
What's up?
How's everything up with the igloos?
It's 98 degrees in Alaska
for the first time in history.
Are you serious?
No.
Oh, okay.
No, we'd be lucky if it gets to the 70s.
Wow.
look at that ragged oshaus that's interesting man yeah we're over here in l.a. burning up at a hundred
degrees yeah it's nuts it's a heatwave i need to buy me my electric vehicle already just get it over
with oh i got mine i'm getting a charger installed tomorrow i tried to get this this awesome
electrician from galveston to fly out i was even going to fly this motherfucker out i know i
I can't get him here.
I can't get him here.
So I'm having to break down and hire somebody so I can get a little bit of a faster charge, you know.
Just installed a car charger yesterday.
Yeah.
Easy job or is it a lot of work?
Ah, yeah, it's a little bit.
It's big old wire.
It's expensive.
Mm-hmm.
Six-gauge wire, right, Philip?
Yeah, as you said, as you said.
Okay.
So what is the, does that mean that the card, like, self-charges?
How does that work?
Oh, you mean, oh, you mean is you have to still plug it into electricity, right?
Yeah, we have an electrician in the house to explain.
Yeah, you still got to plug it in, but like instead of plugging it in, just regular outlet, it's like an oven outlet, basically.
Oh, okay, because here in California, we have, like, chargers all over the, all over the state.
Like, you can't go past, like, 20 miles without all these new chargers.
But I'm always worried about taking a trip in an electric vehicle because I know, like, the red states, they don't give a fuck.
So how are you going to get through the red states?
Like, are you going to not charge your car?
Like, especially the ones that are like 100.
You can float.
You can float it, man.
Just put your, tap the brake lightly.
Like, if I had to cross, like, if I had to cross Texas in an electric vehicle, like, good luck.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, that's, that's the, we still got chargers everywhere.
Yeah, there's charge.
Okay.
You can, you can map it out.
A lot of them are at malls.
They're not at like every gas station.
Yes.
But like at malls, they definitely have them.
there's a lot of them
a lot of them being put in in in Florida
like the town we live in which is
Melbourne which is basically a tiny
town outside of Orlando
I mean we're getting
we're probably having about
I've seen about 10 new chargers coming in
some of them have just opened some of have
a lot of them are Tesla right
like they're Tesla chargers so I have to
use my adapter for my car but
they're coming in man
I think I'm gonna just use the same shit
I think they do
They all use electricity, right, Philip?
Well, I mean, I think it's pretty standard, the little car charger thing.
Although I think not to get into it, but I think it's a awful lot of infrastructure for what seems to be probably a temporary fix on this car oil thing.
Probably so, yes, because we're probably going hydrogen in the long run.
Something.
Yeah, I'm going to do something new.
I'm going to buy a hybrid.
I'm going to buy a hybrid as my first electric vehicle just to have that gas as a backup.
you know. I was going to get a little Ford Maverick, but it's like a, like a little clown car for me.
Well, that won't work for you. Yeah. Brian, do you get like ladders and chiters my truck?
I'm assuming so my son owns a Tesla. Okay. I've never seen a charger, but I'm assuming they're here.
You know what we got here in LA. I don't know if they made a nationwide right, but it's the trippiest thing still. And even though I see them every day,
we got the Waymos here in LA now.
Oh, yes, I've heard that.
I have not seen those.
You couldn't pay me to get on one because it's still, it's still, there could still be
an error, right?
I mean, they could still start running people over and shit, like maximum overdrive.
Like, we just watched a few weeks ago.
Yeah, we were just talking about.
Those self-driving cars.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm probably just one of those rather than some fucking psycho in an Uber.
Some tweaker.
But yeah, so those are all over the city.
And there's still a trip to watch because there's no driver.
It's just driving by itself.
Got to be a trip, right?
But Lance, I was thinking of you the other day because I did get my ticket for the Odyssey.
I couldn't watch it tonight because to watch it and IMAX, you know, it's sold out everywhere.
It's sold out everywhere. And true IMAX, not the cheap IMAX.
Is it coming out this week?
Yeah, today, today actually for the.
But I mean, the tickets were like impossible.
them on sale a year ago and they just they sold them all out for for for the Thursday screening which is today
um and then you know if you want to watch it in imax it was shot 100% on iMac so it's like a big
deal if you're if you're like a signify or nerd um yeah i saw the like a comparison between like the imax
version versus the regular screen version yeah and it cuts off an awful lot in the regular screen right
so i i i'd had to go to universal studios because that's the only true i max we have here in
and they have a very long distance from the parking lot to the park.
And I thought about that.
It ain't 45 minute walk, but it's about a 20 minute walk.
And I was like, okay, you know, for this movie, it's worth it.
I will take the 20 minute walk to go watch Odyssey on 9-max.
I'll tell you somebody that I guarantee you is there tonight, Pedro.
Who?
The ultimate Christopher Nolan fan.
Jack Falvey the 4th.
Oh, okay.
You know he's there.
He got his ticket two years ago probably on the black market.
You think he got one of those 70 millimeter IMAX, whatever.
Oh, he did.
I know he did.
He's a nerd that way.
Yeah, no, he definitely did.
Oh, Christopher-known is pretty solid.
I'll be watching it.
Yeah.
I'll be watching it tomorrow, tomorrow night to be over there.
Nice.
I read a couple of good positive reviews.
I haven't read anything negative yet.
Yeah.
But it is three hours long.
So, you know, there's that.
It's an action fantasy epic.
Yeah, I guess if anything deserves to be three hours, it's the Odyssey.
Yeah, by the name alone.
Yeah.
All right.
You all ready for Cool of the Week?
I thought we were in Cool of the Week.
Oh, yeah.
Are we? The Odyssey?
All right.
The Odyssey.
I'm taking notes, guys.
I'm sorry.
That was mine. That was mine. I'm going to see it tomorrow and I'm excited.
Okay.
What else is happening here? I just been kind of learning just to just chill on my days off, not do much, you know, just kind of, you know, lay on the sofa, watch a little TV.
Been watching a lot of baseball, which is always fun for me because that's my favorite sport.
They had the All-Star game on Tuesday. I didn't watch the All-Star game, but I saw the Home Room Derby, which was pretty fun.
So, yes, I just kind of been doing that.
Can you hear me?
Yeah.
Yes.
Oh, God, let's not have another microphone, snafu.
I haven't seen the baseball all-star game in a while.
Has it gotten watered down like other sports all-star games?
Yes.
Now, if you don't want to play, you could just say, I'm cool.
I'm going to chill with my family.
And then they just bring another guy over.
The thing that I don't like about baseball lately,
especially baseball and Netflix.
So one of the things about football and basketball that they're real good at is that rock and row atmosphere, you know, the crowd is amped up, you know.
There's a lot of pop in circumstance in football and in basketball that baseball's trying to emulate.
And baseball comes off as that like old guy trying to be cool in front of kids, you know?
Like, it comes off so awkward.
Steve Bouchemy.
Yeah, like just, just one of the things that baseball has that the other sports don't have,
is their history, right?
Baseball is very romanticized.
We think about all the classic moments and all that stuff.
They need to lead more into that.
Instead of trying to be this rock concert
that the other sports naturally have, you know?
And so, yeah, so they've been trying to do that lately,
and it comes off looking so awkward,
like they're like try-hards, you know?
But anyway, so I don't even watch the All-Star game anymore
because, again, like, an All-Star will get picked by the fans,
and they're like, oh, my elbow hurts.
I'm going to chill.
So they just give it to some other guy,
the second place guy.
And it's like,
well,
what's the point of voting then?
Do they still,
is it,
is it,
whoever wins the all-star game
has home field advantage?
No,
they don't care about that anymore.
Yeah,
because that was some bullshit.
No,
no,
not,
not,
now they went,
they went back to the more traditional
the team with the best record
in the division,
they get the home field advantage.
That makes more sense.
Yeah,
that was wack.
They did that for a few years
and it was a complete disaster.
Yeah,
I think it,
I think it fucked the Rangers
out of a World Series.
win.
Yeah.
Hey, Pedro.
That's true.
Pedro.
Yeah.
You're a resident baseball guy.
I learned about something two weeks ago, and I've never heard of it before.
You've heard of anything called banana ball?
Yeah, yeah.
The Savannah bananas?
The Savannah bananas.
That's kind of like the Harlem Globetrotters.
Okay.
I thought so.
Yeah, no, it's kind of like they go around the country and they have games against, like, it
depends.
It could be against fans.
It could be against other actors.
It could be against each other.
Come on, man.
So are they not a minor league team?
No, they're like, they're like the, I quote classify them kind of like the Harlem Globetrotters.
Oh, like an exhibition team.
Exhibition.
I think it used to be a minor league team until they got really big.
Yeah.
Okay.
So they've got all kinds of crazy names of minor league teams like the making bacon.
Yeah.
Right.
So they just go across the country and they put this exhibitions and, you know, the pitcher winds and
wacky ways. It's just weird, but it's fun. And I think they put them on Netflix, I want to say.
And that's where their popularity grew, because people started watching them. And so yeah,
so it's a thing now. You're right. So yeah, whoever, whoever hipped you up to that was,
was correct. It's getting bigger, I guess. All right. Yeah. So that's Michael a week.
Oh, and then I'm also, I'm still on my, my, my MCU revisit. I saw, what did I watch for this
month I saw Captain America Civil War, which is still one of the greatest, you know, superhero
movies in history.
I mean, the fact that they were able to introduce Black Panther in that movie for the first
time, they brought back Spider-Man for the first time in that more of the MCU and still
try to like tell like a grounded story.
That's one of the better villains, I think, you know, how Mitz-Zimo would, like, he had no
superpowers.
It was just a guy that went in there and manipulated the team internally.
Yeah.
Just great, great movie.
He did what he set out to do, and he didn't die in the movie.
That's right.
Yeah, and it's full of emotion, and it's, it has good payoffs.
It's a really good movie.
For a lot of people, it's still the best, like, MCU movie, even after all the other
ones we've gone since then.
And then I think I saw, what was the other one that I saw?
Dr. Strange, I did that 2016 one.
That one was okay.
I mean, it's a watchable movie.
Nice little introduction to the character.
But yeah, so that's been my crew of the week.
Just kind of revisiting old movies, you know, watching baseball, trying to try and do a...
I've been going to the beach a lot because living in L.A., that's one of the perks.
And so, yeah, that's what I've been doing.
Trying to put up with the heat.
I think the waters are so muddied with Marvel.
And they keep just trying to clean the...
pool. It's time to empty
that motherfucker and start over.
But that's the goal, though. They got, they got these two movies
coming up with a civil war, not civil war,
secret war and doomsday, you know,
and that's going to be the big reset right there.
Well, and I am kind of excited about
the new Spider-Man and stuff, but like they keep trying to
introduce this other stuff into the other movies.
And I'm like, man, just fucking, like, just clean slate.
Start over.
Yeah, there's already a lot of rumors about the new X-Men that are going to be introduced once all this shit gets.
Yeah.
Do tell.
Do you tell.
I haven't heard any in the rooms.
Well, I mean, they had Adam Driver as Magneto is the big one.
Yeah.
And that one's kind of like.
What's her name is getting hate the Indy Navarretti from a obsession?
Yeah, Indy Navarretti.
Supposedly she's going to get a row in all this, which is good for her.
Why wouldn't she?
A lot of people.
Because they're saying she's the indie darling.
she's selling out. But I mean, if you listen to her story, I guess that's fair.
After filming obsession, she couldn't get work for like 18 months. Yeah, she was walking dogs and
shit. Bro, if somebody says, here's your lottery ticket. Do you want to be in a fucking
Marvel? You want to be a superhero and get paid millions of fucking dollars? And get a personal
training. I mean, look at Robert Pattinson. He did Twilight, got paid. And then after that, he
whatever he wanted.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He did do a Batman movie.
And now he's Batman.
Or even Harry Potter.
That guy really got wacky post-Hara.
He's doing all kinds of weird shit.
He's got horns on his head.
He's walking around playing cool shit.
He's a one.
Remember, he played a corpse that farts?
He played a corpse that farts.
Elijah Wood?
No, that was Elijah Wooder.
No, I'm saying Elijah Wood.
Yeah, oh yeah, he's another one that's right.
that guy wacky with all his shit.
You're talking about
Paul Dano was in that movie.
Paul Dano.
Tarantino's worst nightmare, Paul Dano.
Right, right.
Has he got no feet?
So that's my cool of the week.
Just kind of chilling, revisiting old movies, yeah.
Very nice.
Tarantino's biggest fear is a diabetic with no feet.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What you got, Philip?
Are you going for it?
Yeah, because I don't got nothing but rewatches.
All right.
Since we're reviewing Evil Dead Burn, I rewatch the entire franchise,
except I didn't rewatch Ash versus Evil Dead.
That takes a little bit of time to get through that.
Yeah, that's yes.
The pilot's pretty cool.
The pilot kind of works as its own movie anyway, but yeah.
Had a good time with that.
probably the most consistent franchise.
Yeah.
What's your favorite one?
Kind of partial to two.
Me too.
It's fast becoming my favorite franchisees too.
Or Army of Darkness is always a classic.
Oh, that's so much fun.
Yeah.
And I've rewatched,
was it 2009, Lance,
the J.J. Abrams Star Trek?
Yeah.
You're going to ask Lance of all people about something,
remember something in the past?
Yeah, but it's Star Trek.
But it's Star Trek, so I'll make an exception.
I thought he would hone in on the Star Trek being his thing.
Yeah, like some people call it Star Trek 09.
So there you go.
That's how I, that's the mnemonic device.
We have to have these mnemonic devices, Pedro.
Lance, you've been a Star Trek aficionado.
What do you think of that JJ Abrams trilogy?
Did it something you like?
You don't like it?
Yeah.
I don't hate it. It's fun. I like seeing the little rebellious young Kirk there being taken under his uncle's wing and everything.
You think they should have got that fourth movie they were trying to make?
Yes, and the fifth, and a sixth, and a sixth, and the seventh. And then I want to see the Tarrantino.
From the same team. He said that'll never happen.
I'll take it. Yeah, I was happy with him. I didn't even hate the third one. I mean, it was, I don't know.
It was a little bit repetitive, I'll admit.
What is the last show they did?
Was it Picard or whatever it was called?
Yeah, well, there's shows coming out.
Like there's the Academy, Starfleet Academy show that's all right now.
They got canceled.
Yeah, it's not going to get a third season.
It's getting two, though, right, Brian?
Or is it just getting one?
I don't know.
I don't know what's going on with shows these days.
They make a season one and then they cancel it.
Yeah, like the Burroughs.
Yeah, that makes it tough, right?
Makes it tough.
But, you know.
CBS All Access, right? Started all this, right, Philip?
Did.
Back to the roots.
Yeah.
I'm bitching about that for the next three decades.
Yeah, I definitely didn't hate.
I like the second one quite a bit, the real dark one.
I really enjoyed that one.
But the first was a lot of fun.
Oh, the one with Dr. Strange with the turn, supposedly.
Yeah.
That everybody knew going into the movie?
Everybody knew going in, especially the Trekkies, right?
Yeah, that's, that's, that's, that's,
That was the down point of that movie because you knew he was con.
Right.
Yeah.
And then when they did the reveal, you're just kind of like, huh.
Yeah.
Saw it coming.
What are you going to do?
But yeah, that's all I got.
So I'll go with the Evil Dead franchise.
My cool, the week.
Nice, nice.
That was a lot of, those are six movies right there.
So that's a lot.
Yeah.
And counting, I think, right?
Oh, yeah.
Well, we got Wrath next.
No, not next year, a 2028.
Which I said last.
week. I'm going to say, I'm going to go out and say
they'll bump that up.
Yeah, because they already finished it. It's already
wrapped either shooting now. There's no reason why it should be
a two-year wait.
How did this one do numbers wise?
Not so well.
Didn't do as good as opening weekend.
Didn't do as good as the last one.
But there was a lot of things going on.
They said with the World Cup being out.
And also, I mean, and also it wasn't
best reviewed one, which is
fucking weird. We'll get to it into why. I don't agree
with a lot of that shit when we'll get to it.
Yeah, we'll talk about that because I read a couple
of reviews after I saw the movie
and I disagree with
a lot of the negativity. The positive ones
I saw. Anyway, we'll get to that.
All right.
Philip, you want to go? I finally
caught obsession.
Nice. Welcome to the
party on that. It was
phenomenal, dude. I loved
the movie. I loved the feel
of it. I loved that
girl's performance.
Like
it was so creepy, dude.
Every time she like
went ape shit and lost it
it was
just, it was gold.
It gave me goosebumps every time she did that.
How come nobody talks about
the fact that Andy Richter was just randomly
in this movie? Like, he just
literally, he was just
there. He walked
across the screen and it didn't really
show his face, but he started talking
and I was like,
is that?
You need the voice.
He's got to be a friend of like
Curry Barkers or something. For sure.
Because I've always been a big fan of Andy Richter.
I've loved him since the early
days of Conan. Because other than
a couple times he walks across the screen,
you just like hear him in the background in the
music store. Yeah.
Oh, that's right. That's right.
It's like he produced a movie or something and just popped into it.
I don't know.
I don't even know if that's true.
I just assume that he had something to do with the production and he was just somebody's friend and just popped in on set.
Because like, if I had Andy Richter in a movie, I'd be showing his face the whole time.
He was there for one day probably, right?
They shot all the scenes in one day, maybe.
Maybe because it was just in the instrument or record store, whatever that was.
It was literally not a face shot.
he's just like walking by the screen and talking
and I was like man that really sounds like
Andy Richter
but yeah I was
I think I think that's all I got off
top of my head this week but it was pretty great
cool you were you were happy with the ending Philip
yeah yeah yeah I was I was happy with the whole movie
I was very impressed like
I know you guys had had hyped it up a lot
and so I had kind of high expectations going into it
but like
I just loved
the feel of the whole thing
like while it was going
I was cheesing hard man
I was smiling
like while the movie was playing
I was like this is amazing
this is this is exactly what I wanted
yeah okay
yeah I think we all
we all love that one we'll talk about it again
won't we before the end of the year oh for sure
we'll talk about the sequel obsession too
no
you get more
you get more off of rewatches.
Obsessions. How about obsessions?
Obsessions. There you go.
It'll be obsessions with the S as a two.
You know, they like to do that.
Well, it was a great, like,
be careful what you wish for a movie, you know?
Like, I mean, we've had a million of those,
and this was just kind of unique.
Yeah, but I mean, there was so much analysis on that movie.
Like, there was people, like,
creating a whole essays on that movie,
and who was the true villain?
Was it the guy? Was it the girl? Was it both?
Was it the other guy?
It was the friends.
Yeah, it was a friend.
Was Andy Richter the villain the whole time?
Like, who knows?
Oh, yeah, there'll be all kind of theories.
And so, no, but I mean, come on.
This movie's going to get.
This movie had a $700,000 budget.
People were working real jobs like Indian Navarred and the other girl.
It changed everybody's lives.
Of course there's going to be a secret.
It made almost $400 million on a $700,000 dollar budget.
Yeah.
So we are going to get obsessions where they answer the question of who was,
who's running the little wish thing thingy, you know, stuff like that.
It's going to water everything down.
You know, you guys know Pedro's right too, right?
Yeah, well, I know there was like some, some crew member that was crying about not making
enough money for it or whatever.
I was like, well, you just talked your fucking self out of the sequel.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I didn't agree with that lady because that's the gig industry.
Anybody that works in the like you're working for you're getting paid for it's like it's not like nobody was like malicious and like yeah we're gonna rip her off and yeah nobody
We're gonna make for a hundred million dollars everybody was working for scale everybody was struggling and it just so happens to be what it became and that was it
Nobody nobody nobody knew this was gonna be that yeah big of a hit I mean this movie is made more than centers did last year and that was a
Academy Award winner it's like it's like standing next to your friend
rolling craps and then they win and you're like hey where's my money and your pitch you're
right analogy man yeah great analogy philip no the ones that came up and this is just being a good
business person is the blum house jason blum because he paid 17 million for that movie to distribute it
he's the one that kept all the profits but hey that's why he's the businessman you know he's got the big money
signed him to a multi-picture deal curry barker blum house did yeah i would in a heartbeat
That was a phenomenal job.
This guy special.
He's the one that's doing TENSENDSA, right?
Or is it?
Yes.
Yes.
Oh.
That could be.
But he's got a movie that he's already filmed called Anything But Ghosts.
Yeah, which tells you the fate of the indie Navarre character in this movie.
Man, I don't know.
No, it does.
It does.
Lanzzi, they have a quick scene.
Yeah, it's like an Easter egg of like the background supposedly.
of where she's at, you know, I'm assuming she's in jail because...
Yeah, they said it's...
The scene's not a main focus of the movie.
No, it's just like a little Easter egg.
Yeah, if you catch it in the background.
Yeah, well, that's the way it should be, but not fucking obsessions.
And a TV series called Many, Many Wishes Willow.
I don't know if...
We're going to get all that, Lance.
A different wish every episode.
I don't know if I'd have stepped on that Texas Chainsaw Massacre Landmine, though.
Like, hey, you had one great movie.
he's got the balls for this.
No, and he didn't
do himself any favors by talking shit
about the original in a very passive-aggressive
way. Oh, yeah.
He says something to the effect of like
the original was for its time and
there's better way. And it's like, bro,
you just fucked up. You had all these people behind you
all these horror nerds. And then
you're just shitting on their franchise. So don't
do that. Right. Yeah. Well, because
like part of the appeal of the original
was how like raw
and like, yeah, he's a, he's in a
make it all pretty and stuff. Yeah.
All purdy.
Well, whatever it is,
it's not going to be fucking good.
And he's going to, like, just trip
over the landmine and fall on his face.
Of course he is. Because it's a Texas
chains on massacre. When was the last good
Texas change? Take your money and move on,
is what I say. That's what I say.
Just take your money and move on.
Well, I guess it's a thing. I don't think there has
been a good text change in some massacre since the original.
People like the second one because it was Toby Hooper.
I love the second one.
Whatever.
It's like very just comedy and, you know, silly.
Yeah.
What's wrong with that, man?
Well, at least they did something different.
That they did.
What do you got for cool of the week?
Oh, I'm finally going to talk about a book that I've been reading for eight weeks now because I've tried to read.
A book?
You?
I try to read, Brian, you know I've tried to read 24 books a year.
So I'm going to have to mix in a lot of graphic novels because I've been working on this one for eight weeks.
in a month. That's nuts. Have you guys ever heard of a David Foster Wallace's novel, Infinite
Jest? No. Never heard of it? Okay. Negative. Well, it's, it's one of those books that, like,
you know, readers that are really into, into shit like that, they say it's like one of the,
one of the five most challenging novels ever written. So, of course, I had to give a shot. But what is
the genre? What are we, genre? Is it? It's, it's kind of hard to describe, man. It's, um,
I guess you would almost call it science fiction a little bit.
I don't know something challenging to read.
That sounds awful.
All right.
And it's weird, dude, because it'll have like footnotes, right?
So you'll be in the middle of a paragraph and you've got to jump back to the footnote section.
What is this?
Is the Bible or what?
What's the mean?
Well, those are going back and forth and shit.
Some of the footnotes, Pedro, okay?
Oh, my God.
So you're having to read the Bible.
Man, you got to be like fucking paying attention.
I'll wait for the movie, Lance. How about that? I'll just wait for the movie.
I don't know if they'll ever be a movie, dude. I don't know how anybody could pull this off into a movie.
But then again, I've said that about some other books.
There's a movie called the Dark Tower. So there's impossible.
It's impossible.
I wouldn't say they pulled that off.
All right. The other big draw about this book was because a lot of people I was watching some YouTube videos and stuff.
and they say that this book predicts the future in many different ways, okay?
So I'm going to let you guys be the judge.
Okay, so this book was written in 1996.
So take your line back to 1996, okay?
Now it says, here's the, I'm going to go item by item, but here's the basic, here's the premise.
It says he essentially predicted FaceTime, Netflix, Doom, Scrolling, and the corporate sponsorship of calendar years.
well before they became a reality.
Well, I don't know if calendar years have corporate sponsorships,
but I know football stadiums do, right?
And they didn't in 96.
Calendar years.
What does it mean by that?
Well, because you go from like the year 1996 and the year after that is like the year of the Purdue Wonder Chicken.
And it's sponsored by Purdue Chicken.
Oh, but that's not a thing yet.
I mean, we don't live in that.
No.
Yeah, they haven't.
That's not.
I'm going to let you guys tell me.
Okay, I'm going to go line by line here.
Okay, so video calling and virtual vanity says the book features videophony,
FaceTime Zoom.
Okay, true.
Along with a realization that you're seeing yourself on camera causes physical vanity
and emotional stress.
Okay, 1996.
Did he predict the future or not?
But that's, I feel like that's an obvious one.
Yeah, okay.
So you could deduce with the information of the,
time that this would be possible in the future.
So I'm taking away points for that one.
I mean, if you're going that way, that direction,
demolition man, you know,
predicted a lot of stuff.
Very true.
All right, I'm moving on.
Yeah.
What's that?
What's that, Brian?
Three seashells.
Yeah, fucking without fucking.
Yeah.
All right.
Here's the next thing that it says it predicted.
This is in 1996, mind you, when it was.
written. Okay. The streaming and binge watching era. Wallace envisioned an entertainment delivery system called
Interlace, which essentially, which essentially operated as a precursor to Netflix and on-demand streaming.
That, okay. I'll let's do them that one. Let's get them because that's pretty, that's, in 1996, I could
never imagine that you could actually just watch movies on your TV with something that was already in your TV.
Like it's, it's, uh, yeah, that's, that's, okay, we're going to give him that one.
Well, he probably should have made some investment money on that one because it definitely came around.
Yeah, right.
Well, he committed suicide.
Spoiler alert.
Jesus Christ.
He committed suicide about 10 years after breakfast.
So he never saw his predictions come to pass.
He never saw his predictions, as most great geniuses, right?
Maybe he's a time traveler.
Yeah, maybe.
Oh.
Maybe he was like, why the fuck should I hang around here for?
I already know what's going to happen.
That's a great point.
All right, next one.
Doom scrolling and AI.
The central McGuffin of the novel is a film so addictively entertaining.
It's called The Entertainment that viewers watch it on a loop until they die.
A concept strikingly similar to modern doom scrolling,
TikTok rabbit holes, and artificial intelligence generated media.
That's a little bit of a stretch.
Maybe.
It kind of does sort of hypnotize you and suck you in.
And like you, you know, you think you look down at your phone for a few minutes and it's like three hours have gone by.
Yeah.
And just load into a sense of.
But I feel like he's talking more about a movie that's so powerful that it keeps you just frozen.
Whereas doom scrolling is more of a system that's in place for us to do that.
It's not a particular movie or any owner.
So I don't know.
But I mean, he wasn't far away.
It's a cousin of doom scrolling.
I'll give him that.
Whatever he's describing would be like a cousin of doom scrolling.
Yeah.
So.
Doom scrolling is even worse.
It's not even like a real hypnotizing thing.
You just get your little serotonin fix.
Yeah.
That's right.
Yeah.
I've had to snap out of it.
I snap out of it.
I'm like, what the fuck?
And I just go do something.
Because I'll get in there and it's like just boom, boom, boom, boom.
It's like no.
Yeah.
You stop paying attention to fucking everything else around.
Yeah.
It happens.
Maybe by design, I don't know.
Maybe.
I don't know.
All right, here's the next point.
Delivery apps, 1996.
Get this, long before the widespread adoption of modern conveniences,
Wallace imagined a future where Americans spend their time isolated at home,
relying on delivery networks to bring them food and goods.
Okay.
That's pretty specific.
It's kind of a big one, right?
Yeah, yeah.
And a weird prediction in the 90s.
Because I never thought we'd end up there.
Yeah.
I think Amazon in the 90s, if even around it, was just doing books, right?
It was the book thing.
Yeah.
But we didn't have a big one.
We didn't have DoorDash.
We didn't have any, like, you know, Grubhub.
We didn't have any of that yet.
So I think that's what he's talking about.
And that's, I'm going to give him that one because that's pretty specific.
So he's two for four.
All right.
Here's the next one.
The lonely.
See, this one's pretty open.
and Pedro, but because of your line of work, you can maybe probably speak to this more.
All right, the loneliness epidemic.
A major theme of the book is profound isolation.
Decades before, oh, okay, decades before the U.S. Surgeon General declared loneliness a public health crisis,
Wallace South saw how unlimited media choices could lead to severe detachment and disconnection from human relationships.
I think that's a boom.
No, that's pretty spot on.
But I will, okay, but if he's, because yeah, if you find entertainment indoors,
there's no reason for you to ever leave your house.
Right.
So it seems like he was more just thinking about what, yeah, I could make this,
I could deduce this if this is happening, which he already had in a previous prediction or whatever.
So yeah, if you don't have to leave, then you're never going to meet people.
And then you become socially awkward.
Yeah, that's kind of concerning actually right now because right now we have the lowest amount of testosterone in our young men.
Oh, no.
So now the evolution, right?
So now we're going towards like an evolutionary response to the loneliness epidemic and we'll see what happens to mankind because it's going to be less babies.
So who knows?
Maybe that's your own way of like, like, you know, decluttering itself.
Maybe.
Well, and there's definitely some weirdness around, around just being on technology and being raised by a screen, you know.
I mean, none of us were, even though we've sort of been indoctrinated into that world.
But like, I've been taking my son to work with me.
And maybe it's just because he's a 15-year-old oblivious boy.
but like
every time I turn
to try to do something or whatever
he's like standing right in my way
and is just oblivious to what's
happening around him I'm like
yeah he's trying to learn though
I need you to grab that fucking thing
right next to you you see what I'm trying to do
here but here's the thing
get it or get out of the way
but here's the thing I know for a fact that
I don't know if you think like this feel but when we
were 15
we had more insight
Like I just, that's the only way.
Like, like, I was out, I was going on the bus to, because, because what happened with me, I, I've, I've loved movies my whole life.
So when I was 15, you know, you know how like, VHS stores, they would cut you off like at three movies?
Because they're like, there's no way this fucking loser could watch more than three movies a night.
So we're only going to, yeah, random.
Well, I could because I had no life at 15.
So what I did, all over the city, I had different memberships for different, uh, for different VHS places, right?
So I would get on the bus at 15 and just go rent all these movies all over the city.
And then I'll make a weekend out of it.
I'll watch like 13, 14 movies from different video stores.
And the point I'm trying to make is that I had no GPS.
It was just my own instincts as a 15-year-old kid being on the bus all over the city.
And I've always been a proponent of falling.
The best lessons come when you fall on your ass.
Everybody needs to fall on their ass because that's where you build the resilience.
So the coddling of kids nowadays have made it to where they just kind of have this blank stare
Because they have no resources to go to because they've never flying on their ass
So yeah all and now you don't even have to do shit because all the entertainment is indoors
So it's it's you're just there with random people and there's no risk involved right
Because everybody's two-dimensional everybody's a cartoon character yeah so it's created this whole like
It's hard to be social now for these young I don't know how they're going to
going to do it. Well, and you don't have time to be bored. There's always something in your face all the
time. And like being bored is instrumental in some of the greatest accomplishments in human history,
you know, like figuring out. Like I used to just take shit apart as a kid, you know? Yeah. And I,
and kids don't do that anymore. Or even like daydream about career prospects too. Like you're
daydream about career prospects, right? Like, oh, I want to do this. I want to, okay, let me. And you're
sitting there bored. And you're sitting there bored. And you're,
you're like imagining you're doing this and then then you go out there and do it.
But yeah, I don't know.
So this guy was on to something, but I don't think, I think if he had for this particular
one, he had enough tools to predict this at that time.
Because if you have all, if you have all the entertainment indoors, you don't have to
go outside.
It's going to create social problems.
And then there's that.
All right.
Well, there's a few other.
The streaming one is creepy though.
I'll give them credit for that one.
The home delivery is the one that really...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the home delivery.
The home delivery one is weird.
All right, so there's just a few other...
I'm just going to go over these really quickly.
So one thing that does happen in the book is someone shoots in public, right?
While he's doing a rally or a thing, somebody shoots Rush Limbaugh,
and a lot of people are comparing that to the Charlie Kirk thing.
Rush Limbaugh.
All right?
Rush Limbaugh.
96, right?
Yeah.
Okay, there's another thing.
The president was like an entertainer, and he's like a big,
nationalists. So obviously everybody tries to compare somebody to Trump, right?
Well, that's kind of a sense. That's, yeah.
Good WWE personality. Let's see. Viteophani stress. But I have a, but I'll play devil's
advocate on this, on these previous two. Wouldn't, wouldn't anybody that would be the leader of
a dystopian society be this like nationalistic, you know, person that wants to control everything?
So, so, so, yeah. So, I mean, I didn't, and not the dark half. What was the one?
What's it the dark half?
No. The one where Christopher Walken was in the movie, remember?
Oh, yeah, yeah. No, I wasn't in the dark habit. It was the, the, the, the, the, the dead zone.
The dead zone. All right, just a few little other things. Now, this one was kind of creepy. Digital video filters where you could change the look of your face.
Okay. Hey, all right, algorithmic addiction. Envisioned the entertainment of film so addictive viewers lose the will to do anything else. Well, there we go. We talked about that virtual communities.
information overload, hyper specialization in youth, I'm not sure what that means,
massive waste crisis, and politics as entertainment. So there you go.
Okay, all right. That's our biggest problem right now, I think, is politics as entertainment,
because like both sides have this propaganda war going on, and it's hard to find the truth in any other.
I know. We have to look for the truth nowadays. Both sides. But, no, okay, I'm going to put this guy over.
I mean, he didn't get, I wouldn't agree with all of them, but there's enough to where you're wondering, what the fuck's going on here, you know?
And we'll never know because he, he checked himself out.
Or did he checked himself out?
Or maybe he went back into his refrigerator with a time machine.
That's what I'm thinking, man.
I'm not worried.
Or I sure Charlie Kirk's dead.
Uh-oh.
Or a phone group.
Moving on, right?
Brian, do you have any horror headlines for us?
Yes, we do.
The revenge of Lila Rona.
Another one.
Gets bumped up a couple months to February 26, 2027.
Ooh, February horror movie.
You know what?
That's an oxymoronic statement because the Yorona legend itself has a revenge aspect to it.
How can the revenge of the Rona if she's already on the war path because she lost her children?
It's stupid.
Right.
but is this going to be the Chavez guy that directs all these atrocities,
the same fucking guy?
No,
a different director.
Okay.
But they're bringing a Tucco back from the first one.
Ah, okay.
All right.
It's always good to see him get a baby.
I feel like they could make that story into a really classic movie.
And they just have not.
They didn't yet.
They've made a few of them, right?
There were several different ones.
But it's a great story.
It's a classic story.
Yeah, I grew up with that fucking story, and it worked on me a couple of times as a kid.
Yeah.
When you hear some wailing outside?
Let's see.
The It Follows sequel, they follow has cast Jack, Giro Haley, and Michael Gandalfini.
Okay.
Michael Gandalfini is that James' kid?
So are they going to be following somebody, Michael Gandalfini?
Is he going to be following somebody?
he's going to be after daredevil right
it's really just the same
I don't think he made it out of that season
it's just the one person he's just trans
so it's they follow
oh there you go
that's the next one
well it's also James Earl
what was the name of the guy
the fake Freddy
Jackie Earl Haley
Jackie Earl Haley
Somebody somebody they were messing with me
but you know how they just announced
that I don't know if you were going to say this Brian
but they just announced the new nightmare
in Amstreet that's in development.
Yeah.
And somebody had told me that
Jackie or Haley had already been cast,
but I think they were fucking with me.
I don't think that's true.
No, we'll get to that.
Because if they want to guarantee a bomb,
they'll do that, but they're not going to do that.
Let's see.
The most loved one.
Lance,
we had talked about that they were going to make
a conjuring prequel
or they could when we reviewed
the last one.
The Conjuring first
communion has officially cast
it's Ed and Lorraine.
Oh God.
Garrett Wearing
and Amanda Fix.
Never heard of either one of them.
Nope.
Well, we've seen
Garrett
Wearing. He was in
the long walk.
Oh.
The main kid?
No, he was,
do you remember the movie well enough?
Mm-hmm.
The one that was revealed to be
the general son.
Okay.
Oh, I like that guy.
All right.
Okay.
And Amanda Fix, she's in that Netflix show.
Something very bad is going to happen.
Okay.
I started that show.
I never finished it.
I only made one episode.
And she's also going to be in that we reviewed the trailer for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Massima.
Yes, that's right.
That's mouthful.
So it ain't going to be Patrick Wilson anymore, huh?
or Vera Formiga.
No more songs.
Well, he's another one that was
rumored to be joined the X-Men soon as well.
So that's really?
Yeah.
I hope not.
Professor X?
No, I wasn't for Professor X.
He's too old to be one of the X-Men.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
We might as well just keep the same guy
played Wolverine for the next 20 years.
That's what I'm wondering is who's going to be Wolverine.
Not about the same age, isn't he?
I mean.
I'm okay.
if Adam Driver is Magneto.
I'm not.
No, corny as hell, man.
I think they could pull that off.
Kylo Ran is, come on, really.
Adam Driver's a good actor. I like him.
He's got a wacky face, but he's got like a very
unique face.
To me, it's a punchable face, but, you know,
personal choice, I guess.
I mean, he's going to have to get a haircut, that whole, like,
1980 surfer haircut that he always has.
He can't have that as Magneto.
Punchable face.
Some would say Dane Dahan has a punchable face.
Yeah, we would probably all have to say that.
What about Dane Dahan, Lance?
What would you cast him as in the new X?
Dane.
Nightcrawler.
Brian was spot on.
Night crawler.
He said that quicker than I can even think, man.
No makeup needed.
He sold no makeup needed.
He could just show up.
That's right.
All right.
We talked about the latest backroom starting the latest craze for analog horror
with the Sirenhead, VHS, SPC, and the Mandela catalog.
Oh, boy.
We got another one coming called Cartoon Cat.
Cartoon Cat.
Okay.
Is it a cartoon?
Is it animated, Brian?
I looked it out because I had no idea.
idea what it was. It says it's an ancient hollow rot that uses the collective human awareness
and memories of old cartoons as a passageway to manifest into our reality and wreak violent
havoc. I kind of like the idea. I'm not sure if I know what that means, but I...
No, I kind of like the idea. Yeah. Like, there were some scary cartoons when we were kids, right?
Like, when you were real little, tell me none of y'all wasn't, like, for no reason at all scared
of like a cartoon character,
or maybe had a nightmare that a car.
Fantasia was terrifying.
Oh, yeah,
it was.
Absolutely.
I mean, dinosaurs was,
that was just sad.
I mean,
dinosaurs was very sad,
the last episode.
He-Man was,
I knew what was going on with him.
And even back then as a little kid.
Right.
So,
you know,
kind of creepy,
right?
Because it's like,
not real.
No,
the homo erotic thing
I got onto it right away.
But,
he has the power
I don't think of a
Big sword
Yeah the regulations were not as strict as they are now
They would throw some creepy shit out there
Yeah
Let's see
I'm interested in that one
Evil did burn director Sebastian
Venisic
Wants to remake the mask
But he wants to do it
Like the comic book
Which was brutal violent and gory
Ah
Leave that one alone
Yeah
we don't need it.
They tried son of the mask and it was a big flop.
You can't put anybody except Jim Carrey in that role.
Son of the mask.
Yeah, they tried that one.
I forgot that even existed.
But Jamie Kennedy.
Yeah, Jamie Kennedy was in that.
Okay.
Jesus Christ.
Let's see.
Brad Dura teases the next Chucky movie
won't be unlike anything fans expect.
Didn't he retired?
He said he was retired.
He said he will not look.
let the character go to anybody
and the film is set
to break away from the TV series
storyline signaling a fresh
direction. Okay.
No, that's good
though, because that TV show got way
too absurd at the end. It just got
ridiculous. Yeah, that was kind of part
of the fun of it, though, man. Come on.
But I mean, come on. I never quit enjoying it.
Like, you had
35 chucky chuckies running
around and different
sexual orientation chuckies
and, like,
come on like you got ridiculous
different gender chuckies
he ended up going to the White House for whatever
reason that was fun
that was fun I like that I'm glad they're going back
to the roots though it's just give me a
dog give me a kid he wants to take his soul
with voodoo and that's all we need
I agree yeah that would be
refreshing right
apparently they're they're leaning towards more
horror than comedy with this
next one okay
and Pedro
already brought it up
New Nightmare
Out of Street movie is coming from
Paramount Pictures
new
genre label Paramount Primal.
Hmm. Okay.
Well, good luck
with that. That's just like the Texas
Chainsaw Massacre. Just step on that line,
mind, because good luck.
I can't even think of anybody that's going to take
on that task because there's so many
you can't win. It's impossible
to win. You cannot win taking on that
project. Especially
Robert England's not involved, which I don't think he will be.
He's too old.
No, there's nobody cast, no directors, nothing yet.
Dane the Hahn should be the new Freddy.
You know what?
Well, he is half-sleep anyways.
Exactly.
One foot in the grave and the other foot.
He could sound like,
Freddy could sound like Keanu Reeves throughout the entire movie.
Yeah, that's right.
He should be like a Freddie victim, I think.
Oh, yeah, the first victim?
That'd be great.
Because he's not sleeping.
I do have a call up on the Facebook page.
Cool.
You know, if I was then what I would do just to show a sign of good faith with the audience and the fans,
you need to bring Robert England in for some sort of cameo.
Like, just put them under the makeup, maybe keep them in darkness.
But you need to promote that so the fan base could, like, trust you.
And, you know, it's a good olive brand.
for the fan base.
I think he gets to cast him.
He's like 70.
Yeah,
but I think he said he's too old.
Like,
it takes a lot.
Like,
to be Freddie,
it takes,
because you have to sit in that chair
for hours.
Yeah.
And that's really what fuck them over last time.
And then it's a lot of physical stuff,
you know,
chasing after people and whatnot and whatnot.
But I would do that,
you know,
I know that whenever David Gordon Green,
when he relaunched Halloween,
he got,
he got John Carpenter to do the music.
And then.
he had the original shape, you know, come in as a cameo.
But that's easier because all you had to do was wear the mask.
You don't have to wear makeup.
But he did two things that really allowed the audience to connect to the movie,
the first one anyway.
And they got over it.
People loved it.
The parts two and three are a different story.
But for that first one, people were on board.
So hopefully they find a way to kind of do that with Nightmare on Amstreet.
Because other than that, I don't know how they're going to pull it off.
It's just going to be.
It's going to have all kinds of hate.
Matthew McCahey
as
well here's here's some of the names
that have been thrown around by fans
oh here we go
Bill Scarsguard
oh yeah that guy that guy
he hogs all these monsters though
he needs to let other people make some money
true but I'm not going to say it would be bad
he's a little
Robert England was the little guy
so I was a little guy but Robert England was small too
Willem Defoe
wow hey definitely
he's too big of a
actor, though. David Dalsmaltz.
Okay. Oh.
I'm a little bird not on that guy. He comes out in every horror movie now.
Coleman Domingo.
All right.
Coleman Domingo was, he kind of pulled it off in the, in the Candyman movie, I thought.
Yeah, but that was before he blew up.
That was before he blew up, though.
Walton Gaggins.
That's only because of that TV.
show is in. And he's all fucked up in that show.
Yeah, that's what people are thinking, right?
You guys heard this one before, Kevin Bacon.
Yeah.
He doesn't even like talking about Friday of the 13th, let alone nightmare and I know.
Kevin's up there in age anyways.
Very much so, yeah.
Yeah, you might as well bring Robert England back if you're going to hire Kevin Bacon.
That's what I'm thinking, yeah. Jim Carrey.
No.
Well, with all his plastic surgery he had.
Is it going to be the real Jim Carrey or the Dopper Ganger, Jim Carrey?
Carrie because...
Doppel.
He's going to have a mask.
Richard Brake.
Okay.
He can do anything.
Yeah.
I think you just nailed it right there.
But I mean, the promotions
can't...
He's not a well-known guy, though,
so it's just going to be a guy
playing for this.
Maybe, right?
It could be for the bad reason, though.
Silly Murphy.
Killing Murphy.
No.
Killing Murphy?
Nah, it's too big.
And one that I threw in on the pole
after watching Evil Dead Burn.
and Errol Shan, who plays the father.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, he did good.
Yeah.
Actually, he could totally pull it off.
Yeah, got the creep factor.
Right now, Nepal, Bill Scarsgard is winning with Willem Defoe and Richard Bray.
Okay.
Coming in second and third.
Johnny Gar's Guard.
Yeah.
Johnny Depp.
Bring it back to the original, baby.
That's like Peter Dinkler's taking all the midget rolls, man.
It's like Bill Scars has got to chill with his all the moniesgars.
all the monster roles.
Spread the wealth a little bit.
Who's going to play? Oh, that's Willem to
Defoe. I was going to play the Werewolf, but it's Willem the
Full. Is it? Okay. Yeah.
The Robert Eggers one.
Yeah. I like Richard Brake. I think that's a great casting.
Yeah, he'll do a lot better than that Stranger's
trilogy, where he was on screen for two minutes.
He did nothing, yeah.
All right, that's the news.
Yeah, Willem Defoe, I don't know.
All right, I'm still...
Okay, now it's time to take a trip to the trailer park.
Brian's going to bring us the big, the small,
and sometimes the very, very weird.
What's our first new trailer tonight, Brian?
Our first and only teaser is for the Crystal Lake
Friday to 13 prequel series,
which came out, the news came out the same day
as Nightmare on Amstreet.
Hmm.
Going a little back in time.
This stars Linda Cardalini as Pamela Vorhees.
And the showrunner is...
No, I can't find his name.
He did the...
It Welcome to Derry Series.
Oh, well, then we're on...
Me and Lanz are on board, right?
Lance, if that's the case.
Yeah, for sure.
That's very promising.
What did you guys think of Crystal Lake, the teaser?
I enjoyed it.
I thought it looked good. Again, this is one of those
Step on the Landmine kind of things, but
not, this is kind of going to be a prequel,
but then again, they did cast for the Big Jason,
so I don't know how they're going to work it out.
Yeah, we'll get young Jason and older Jason
in this season. Oh,
in this season. Okay.
Yeah. All right, and it's Peacog,
so we might get another season out of this.
I was wondering, because they've got, like,
they cast his mom
in there. So how's that?
going to work.
Well, I'm, okay, so we know from the lore, so from the lore, the camp counselors allow Jason
to drown, right?
Right.
You know that.
And then Jason was just gone, supposedly.
Right.
So I feel this is going to send her all mom's dissension into madness about how, like, she,
there was an injustice and she's going to take, you know, so she's going to be the killer,
I'm assuming.
And then maybe we're going to get flashbacks because big Jason's going to be in it.
I'm thinking he's going to be in the second half of the season.
I'm going to say first episode and last episode.
Okay.
So they're going to work backwards.
They're going to start in the quote-unquote present, even though it's not the present.
Right.
And then they're going to work their way backwards.
All right.
Brad King is the showrunner, and he was the showrunner for it.
Welcome to Derry.
All right.
Well, that's, I have all the trust in the world now.
But I'm looking forward to it looks good.
You know, just giving us a little teases.
They kind of paid homage to the Friday of the 13 trailers where they're just showing you all of their bodies that are being taken to the morgue and stuff.
They should have done that one, the countdown house 13, 12, 11.
They showed you all those bodies.
But they didn't do it for the, maybe they'll do it for the bigger trailer.
Yeah, maybe the next one.
The full trailer.
I like we got a quick little glimpse of deformed baby Jason.
Right.
Yeah.
So I wish I would have to stick to that old script.
where like Freddy was the one that drowned him and that's why there's conflict between
Freddy and Jason.
Dane Don, huh?
That'd be great.
No, not Dane Don, I mean.
At Dane Don, show up.
Willem the Four.
It could be William the Fall.
Yeah, have Willem show up.
He doesn't even need makeup.
He's kind of creepy.
He's too busy doing Robert Eggers movies, right?
Yeah.
No, but I'm excited for it.
What do you guys think of it?
yeah i think it looks good i think that first episode last episode thing makes total sense like you bring him
out uh and and in a in a quick scene in the beginning just to set everything up and then it goes back
and sort of goes through the whole history history for the season and then ends up with the last
episode with big jason yeah if they do it if they do it that way i want uh
sackhead Jason in the first episode and then he'll have his mask in the last episode.
Yes, perfect.
Yeah, well, I'm not a huge fan of the movies.
I mean, generally speaking, I'm not a big...
Yeah, Lance is Lansing's Slashor movies.
Yeah, but I don't know, man, I'm willing to give it a chance.
If that's the showrunner and it's 824 studios,
granted, they've been doing a lot more commercial type stuff lately.
I don't know if you guys have noticed.
Well, they said they wanted to go bigger.
Yeah, and they're doing, they did that big AI contract, right,
that pissed off so many of the fucking actors and people in Hollywood.
Yeah. I'll give it a shot. I'll give it a shot.
I did watch the trailer once, and then it came on.
AJ and I were doom scrolling, right?
Or we were just like looking at some TikTok stuff or some reels together,
and that one popped up, and it caught her eye too.
So it'll be a husband-wife watch here at the...
See, there's...
Okay.
There's where the AI stuff will fuck.
lucky man.
Like,
yeah.
There's so many videos out there that are like just silly animals and it's just
AI slot,
man.
Right.
I don't know what it's going to do to humanity.
I don't know.
We're going to find out if we're still around.
Yeah.
No,
I mean,
we will be.
It's already happening now.
What are you talking about?
Well, it's happening in real time,
isn't it?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's not like it's going to happen 10 years from now.
Yeah.
This is at 1996, Pedro.
So,
I don't know.
we'll see but I'm looking forward to it.
Crystal Lake hits Peacock
on October 15th.
Okay. And it's Peacock too, so hopefully they don't give up on it
after one season, you know, like Netflix.
Peacock's pretty good about their series.
Yeah, they brought back the Burbs, which was God-awful.
They better bring this one back to them.
Are you kidding? They brought that thing, but I couldn't get past the first episode.
They got a second season.
And I'm a big Kiki Palmer fan,
which drives
Did you see, Lance, did you ever see that I love boosters?
I haven't seen it yet.
Oh, God, it was available now.
I know, you could rent it, but it's, it's horrendous.
It's available for rent now.
Yes.
Okay.
I mean, I'm sure you'll watch it one day, but it's just horrendous.
I'll rent it, yeah.
I'll throw a couple of shekels at it.
Maybe it's sitting in that guy, maybe it's in that guy's, what was the name of that
one guy that was giving us all his movie files?
Oh.
Maybe he's got it there, so you can forget it from him.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
You're going to listen to feedback?
Or what are we doing?
I don't think so.
I didn't have time to collect any.
Unless you guys want to scroll through and find some.
Hey, we run in a contest?
We are running a contest.
I just didn't have any time, dude.
I had somebody here fixing my sink that was leaking.
So now that is.
All right.
Well, but yeah, definitely don't forget about our feedback.
contest you can email us at the horror returns at gmail.com or go to our
facebook group uh the horror returns and leave your best interactive feedback to read on the show
uh for the input we can pick one all right good good brian's gonna save us here sorry phil
just keep keep on i'm desperately looking through trying to find some feed yeah you guys i'm
not even going to try to like a wing podcast spotlight
I do have a podcast spotlight is on us.
The horror returns.
I've got it. Hold on.
Brian, you want to do it or you won't be able to?
I'll look for the feedback.
I like the geeks.
The geeks. The geeks is a podcast spotlight.
The geeks.
Check out the geeks.
So we got podcast spotlight this week is teacher terror, a horror movie podcast.
Good, good call there, Pedro.
All right, teacher terror is a podcast where your two favorite elementary,
school sexy teachers
oh wait I I am put sexy there
sorry teachers rate and review horror movies
each episode centers
around a themed assignment
and Abby and Marcia
bring their favorite scary movies to the table to
discuss so that's a new twist right
wouldn't you guys say
no we've heard
the same concept in every one of these
the sexiest name I'm gonna turn heel on this
on this podcast spotlight
This is the same fucking concepts.
Day in and week in and week out.
It's always the nerd that's an expert with the nerd that's not an expert.
And then the nerd that's an expert introduces the non-nerd expert into the movie.
And then hilarity ensues from there.
But still, but still, check him out.
All right, we got Jordan Schmidt commented on the poll for who should play Freddie Kruger.
He said Bill Mosley.
do mostly
he's
he's got to put the grave for sure
yeah he's the other than Robert
England to be honest with you
he is
no I don't think he is
I mean we let's not
you know everybody gets their
gets their opinion it wouldn't be bad
honestly it wouldn't be bad
I don't think you'd do a bad guy
isn't he in his 70s
he's up there
well yeah
he was in Texas chainsaw
But no matter who plays Robert England, that fan, that's a classic.
That's what the...
Michael Arnaz.
Hellboy 2 is the Golden Army.
Adam Bunch says, as a massive Hellboy fan, I want to like this film.
But it's a great Guillermo del Toro movie.
It's my least favorite out of all the Hellboys.
What?
A lot of people love that one.
The Golden Army.
So he likes the last one more.
more than than this, that one?
I guess.
Because this one that was atrocious.
I think there's one that wasn't even finished yet,
and they released it that way.
It got a lot of flack.
I can't think of the guy that played his name.
Not the one with the stranger things guy,
not that one.
Yeah, I was going to say.
I know the one you're talking about.
There was another one that came out after it.
The latest one, I don't even think I watched it.
It was horrible.
It was like, supposedly, I never watched it,
but supposedly it had unfinished, like, digital effects.
and it was just the worst.
It had some good ideas in there,
but you're right, Pedro.
It had unfinished effects.
Like his Hellboy makeup didn't look good in some scenes.
That's terrible.
Well,
so Bunchy likes that one better than part two, I guess.
All right.
Brian,
who was the first person that gave us feedback here?
Jordan Schmidt.
All right.
And Jordan said Bill Mosley, right?
Yes.
All right. I'm making notes. I'm making notes. All right.
We got one more from Mark Karmanzinski.
He probably said your name wrong.
And this is for Lee Kronin's The Mummy.
He said, I didn't care for this one.
It was too long. And it started out to be an exorcist light, which is then morphed into a not good version of evil did.
I mean, I mean, isn't, but can we break every movie done with that?
kind of analysis, like, that's kind of one third of the movie. Like, every movie is going to be
a takeoff of something else, you know? Every movie, oh, is the exorcist and then it turned
to evil dead. Okay, but was the movie good? Like, I could tell you, I could tell you 10 movies
that have the same concept and, but anyways, whatever. Um, yeah, but I think if you're going to
do a mummy movie, like, let's do one. Yeah, they should have been a mummy. There should have been a
mummy in there. You're right. Yeah. Well, let's do one like in ancient Egypt or something. Let's do
an ancient Samarian.
I like this take on it.
I did too.
I liked it too.
I still didn't think it was a mummy movie.
But I'm not going to die on that hill.
I included it in my evil dead watch.
No, man.
Yeah, I think that's fair.
I think Lee Cronin included in his evil dead watch too.
Well, he said it's in the universe.
Yeah, it's definitely in the universe.
There's no doubt about that at all.
I saw that he got to put up.
I'm even more convinced
haven't seen Evil Dead Burn.
No, I mean, I saw that he got a production credit
in the latest one.
Evil Dead Burn. He got a production credit.
And it's weird because Fetty Alvers
didn't get one. So I wonder he's completely gone
from the...
Maybe. That's like a free check.
You know, that's a free check right there. You don't do shit.
It really hasn't been a bad Evil Dead movie, has there?
I don't think so.
Is that a spoiler alert for your review later on?
Oh, okay. Well, I mean, up until tonight.
Maybe.
Whatever.
Well, at least not garbage.
Got that.
There hadn't been any garbage, Evil Dead movies.
That's true.
All right.
We're kind of spoiling our reviews.
Okay.
Moving on.
All right.
That's it.
So, yeah.
So for the input, we deem the best feedback.
We'll send you a free horror returns t-shirt of your style,
color, and size choice.
Points will be based on originality, or if you make
us laugh on air. If you can break Lance, which is a weird metric to use. It's not that hard,
though, to be honest. But you never know what it's going to be. That's true. That is true.
That is where it gets weird. That you don't know what it's going to be.
Then there's a good chance you can, you can be the winner. So let's do this.
and our intro and logos come from Steve Carlton
from the geeks who are also giving a shout-out
be on the lookout for some more great stuff.
Not Sean, Steve, Steve Carlton.
Not Sean Carlton.
How about just Carlton?
Remember him?
Oh, yeah, we'll go back to my not cool of the week
that fucking UFC fight, man.
All right, what happened?
He, uh, he, he, he, he, he blew his knee in like the first five seconds.
No, no, he didn't blow nothing.
He, he, he's Charlie horse his knee and he gave up.
Uh, maybe he got a big dayday from a gambler.
The conspiracy theory is that he was already hurt.
No, that's debunked because he was throwing that same kick.
There's video of him throwing that same kick.
Yeah.
Right before the fight.
right before the fight.
So I think he was fine.
He had a little stumble when he came out and took his shoes off.
Yeah, that's where that is.
Yeah, he plain and simple, he blew his knee out.
Yeah.
It happens.
You could tell he landed weird.
I don't think he threw the fight.
I don't think he's beaten Max Holloway before.
I mean, granted, it was before Max Holloway went on that crazy run.
Yeah.
I think Max Holloway was going to smoke him anyway.
but uh...
Well, you never know.
I didn't want it to go like that.
But I just didn't like people were booing someone that got hurt
and said tonight was a complete bust when you had fucking Patty Pimbled who was a fucking
superstar.
You thought I didn't...
Iller submission.
If I didn't know better, I thought they were fighting in fucking Liverpool, England.
Dude, I thought I was in a lockstock and two smoking barrels there for a minute, man.
Yeah.
I thought I was in one of those
like folk horror movies for a minute
that was like, oh, he locked
that bitch in, dude, that was like,
oh, he's got it, the fight's over.
And then he started wrapping his legs around
the top of him. That was a
dars choked from hell is what that was.
And people don't even have to pay for the paper reviews anymore.
You just buy that paramount and you're good.
You get it for free.
You're not paying 50, 60 bucks for a
paper review no more.
That is true.
Yeah.
The only one that had any reason to complain were the people that were there live
because those tickets were going for thousands, not 100.
That place was packed.
But dims the brakes.
Yeah, look at all the Mike Tyson fights in the 80s.
Them are the brakes, you know.
That's why wrestling is always the best.
They control all that shit.
They put on a show for you.
Yes, that's true.
It's not scripted.
You get to the movie yet?
Oh, shit.
Not yet.
Actually, you're perfect timing, man.
No, it's perfect timing.
Yeah, we're gonna get to.
10 on 10, right, Ness, 10 on 10.
Please say yes.
No.
Oh, no.
Well, we can't get there till Ness gives us his cool of the week, though.
Well, you say he's got to go, though.
No, I'll do the last movie if you guys are there yet.
All right.
Cool, the week was, um, that was fucking, uh, redux redux.
It's on, uh, Hulu, Disney Plus.
Oh, I like that movie.
I saw it.
Yeah.
It was on some best horror list.
It wasn't even a horror movie.
A perfect situation, but.
It's not horror.
No, it was more like sci-fi.
I'm still waiting for that horror return shirt.
It's not horror.
Yeah.
No, no, that's not a horror film.
Not a horror film.
Right, right.
But it was a really good shirt.
If you guys haven't seen it yet, definitely check that one now.
It's on Hulu or Disney Plus, whatever that bundle is.
That looks interesting. I don't even heard of this one.
I didn't either. I came across the list, and I just, I'm going down the list now and watching it.
And it was pretty good. Definitely, uh, check it out.
You know where you guys would have heard about it at?
Where's that?
The horror returns.
The horror returns. Where we post news and posters and trailers every day.
On the Facebook group, check it out.
All right.
All right. Well, do we want to jump into, uh, evil dead burn first?
Yes, yes, yes. Yes. Okay.
All right.
Director is Sebastian Vanichick, a writer is Sebastian Vanichick with Florent Bernard.
Let's see.
After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws.
As one by one, they transform into deadites, she comes to discover that the vow she took in life survive even in death.
Kind of a spoiler there, but okay.
I guess so.
Well.
That's an Evil Dead movie.
he going to do that's right all right uh nes you're going to start us off man what'd you think about
evil dead burn it was all right it wasn't as good as the last one
evil dead rise was good but it was but it wasn't like a shitty movie though either right now
no it was good i liked it but it was i was just it's kind of like the same run of the mill
evil dead they're starting to become that that's one of that was going to be one of my
criticism they're starting to be very run of the millish yeah it's like i'm gonna disagree
agree, but we'll get into that.
It's like, don't do this, but then they do it and all hell breaks loose.
Well, that's a horror movie, Nez.
I know, but you're always saying that once.
It's not horror.
Every single movie we've had.
The rules are, don't do this.
Yeah, I know.
And then all hell breaks list.
Well, at least somebody quit before they, well, never mind.
So, I mean, but they tell you, don't,
there's a lot of spoil here.
Don't read the Latin writing and they do it anyway.
Right.
Yeah, they did that in like all the movies, even the original three.
but it was good
I liked everybody in it
I didn't know who any of those actors were
the CGI
at the end was a little wonky
I was like how really that's what we're doing
what I like to call the T1,000
off of the truck yeah same here
exactly that's the part
that I was like what's going on here come on here
yeah I was like oh that that's the best we got
but
it was 20 minutes too long
it didn't need to be as long
as long as it was. I was like, all right, next. Come on, get, get going.
Yeah, you don't want to go past an hour and a half on an evil dead movie.
Oh, but all the effects, the blood and the guts and all that, all that was cool.
The grandma was the all-star.
Yeah.
Every time she was on the screen.
And even the, was it, the dad, the father-in-law?
Yeah, the new Freddy. We're calling him the new Freddy.
I like Tim.
you.
It wasn't like
he was infected and boom
immediately came a dead eye.
It was like it just slowly
went along.
So I liked that they did that.
Like the virus.
Yeah.
And some wicked scenes with that guy.
Yeah.
The beginning I thought was really cool
with the lake.
I thought all that was awesome.
Um,
but yeah,
that was pretty much it.
There's nothing really much to spoil
except for the,
the end credit stuff.
but other than that.
I mean, it was good.
I liked it.
I want to go see it again.
I just rewatched Evil Dead Rise.
So I'm still on the like, I like that one more.
Because that, uh, the little Sutherland chick.
I thought she was hot.
I met her one.
She was nice.
And I don't know.
I just,
I just thought that one was better.
I liked it.
I liked how they took it out of the woods and out of the countryside and threw them in an apartment building.
Kind of like a, like a demons.
type of thing. That's what I liked.
So I thought it was good.
But yeah, I'm not saying don't go see this and I'm not really bashing it.
There was just some things that I was kind of like, eh, all right, really.
But I did enjoy it.
It'll get my money again.
It took $16 for me when I saw an ex-D.
And there was nobody in there.
But me, a couple people in the back and a whole role of, I don't know, teenagers that finally got to get into a R movie and they just would not shut up.
Oh, no.
I was going to say it sounds like a...
That's worth $16 if you're in there by yourself.
No, they came in.
I mean, if they were to keep quiet, I wouldn't have cared,
but they're just yapped and yapped and yapped and yaff the whole time.
But they were at least talking about the movie,
not about just random bullshit.
But even still, I kind of tuned them out, but I was like, really?
I was waiting for some kind of usher or somebody to come in and tell them to shut up.
They don't have those anything.
They don't have those anymore.
That's the phone thing.
That's what I'm saying.
They don't know how to be bored.
They don't know how to sit still and just fucking watch something for a minute
because they've got something in their face 24-7.
Right.
I like what Naz had to say on MacNez podcast about backrooms.
Naz where you said those two kids sat down next to you and they started jabbing away,
but you didn't really mind because they were talking about the lure of it.
So I let them go because I was,
I was iffy on
on what was going on in that
and my son knew a little
you weren't alone
yeah so but the guys behind me
were really at least talking about it
so I was like okay I didn't
kind of like watching it with commentary right
yeah but they weren't like really loud
I mean they were loud enough for me to hear
but not just to where someone
was to tell them to shut up
but yeah evil dead burned
it was
it was good I liked it
good to see that
evil dead is still going strong
we had the original three the TV show and now this is the third go-around so and obviously we're getting more
because all the like was it evil dead wrath or something that's supposed to be coming already filmed
yeah see so that's that's coming so but i have questions when we get to spoilers but other than
that i thought it was good all right so so no i mean yeah i'm on the same line as nest it wasn't
perfect by any means. I just didn't like
the criticism that it got online of like it was
too extreme. It was too
gory. I'm like, that's what an evil dead movie
is. Yeah, it's
too mean. Yeah, it's too mean.
What the fuck are you talking about? My steak
is too juicy.
This is soft generation. That's all
it is. Oh, we've been talking about that all
day, Ness, about the soft generation that we're
dealing with lately. But
the thing is, so I
know, I enjoyed it. I thought it was fun. It was
Was it great? No, it wasn't. It's probably the weakest one of the last three, I would say.
But it's still a decent ride. There was less character development in this one. It was like,
as soon as you're in it, it stars, and we really didn't get to know the family that much.
It looked like a foreign film, right? Because the girls are French, though, the main girl.
But even the director.
French director. Right. But even the style of the movie looked very like, it was like, it was almost like an international
movie, but it's actually an American movie.
I like the opening scene,
and then
without spoiling it, the mid-credit
scene makes no sense.
No, the post-creddiscuit scene makes no sense
whatsoever when you add to the eyes.
It actually does
if you listen to the recording in Evil Dead Rise.
Oh, so when we get to spoilers, go ahead.
Okay, cool, cool, because I missed all that and I was like,
wait a minute, this, this and this.
And then another thing, too, that, and I'm going to try
to be vague here. The deadites,
they could
do things that
had never been introduced
before in any other movies. And I'm like,
are they,
is there like superpowers
involved all of a sudden that they, like
it was weird, like, you know,
and I'll leave it at that. Okay. I want to make
sure I say it first one, but I'm trying to be careful
what I say.
Yeah, well, you already said it's
Well, I mean, zombies, I'll talk about it later.
No, but, but, but now I love, but they could also like change temperatures in,
and, in certain waters and.
Yeah, like, make the fire.
Like, that had never been introduced in the end of the movies.
Like, they have that power now.
And it was just like.
Yeah, I guess not.
I can't think of that.
But I mean, it makes sense they're hard to kill, right?
They're supernatural by nature.
These are the deadites in France.
So maybe it's different.
Oh, it's deadites.
just like the walking dead where when they're in France they actually run
where it's in America they just walk okay so no and then and then I have a lot of
issues with that third act I'm sure all of us are going to have our opinions on that third act
because I think so it was essentially like a whole other movie like it was like that's
we're not even in that's that's where it went too long anymore that's where it went too long
yeah so anyways that's kind of what I have to say but I still had a great time with it
I thought the cinematography was phenomenal I thought the shot composition
like whenever the dead eyes would attack
the filmmaker found a way to use the camera
to give us these amazing shots
there's one that's in the trailer
where one of them is choking the girl
and then they have the upside down shot
and then the deadites hanging
and that was a cool shot
so it was I was never bored
even though the movie's a little long
it's damn near two hours
but it was still a fun ride
and I do like that
I think we're going to get the story
of the grandpa
in the prequel, I think.
And I'll get into that in spoilers,
provide more content.
Because it is a prequel.
They already announced it.
It's a prequel to part one.
Wrath is?
Yeah,
I've had that wrath.
Oh, I didn't know.
So I think we're going to get,
what are they called?
The men of business,
the men of pleasure,
whatever the fuck they were called.
I don't think that was it.
The legion of superheroes.
Anyways,
so I was a little disappointed, though,
because I thought it was the same guy
that did the recording
in Evil Dead 1 and 2
that was the grandpa
but it's two different guys
because they have different names
so I was like oh that would have been cool
if they would have connected both of them
yeah and then
and then yeah we'll get
there's yeah we'll get into the rest
and spoilers because I don't want to say more
but I had a good time with this movie for sure
okay
Brian
I enjoyed it
It is the lesser of the Evil Dead movies, but I still had a good time with it.
I think it moved a little too slow in the beginning, and then it ramped up,
and then it just got fucking wacky at the end.
I like the practical effects.
I do agree with Nez.
Some of the CGI was a little iffy there at the end.
Yeah.
I like the connections to the other movie, the previous one.
Yeah.
And, yeah, I mean, without getting the spoilers, I pretty much agree with what everybody said so far about it.
Hmm.
Lance?
I mean, I like the opening scene to an extent, right?
But where did those fishing lines come from in the water?
Were those just like fishing rods that people dropped out of their boats over the years?
I'm like, did we get into the new Howl-Razer movie?
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Always extra lines in the way.
I like that scene.
Is it always extra lines in the water?
No, I mean, I loved it.
I'm assuming that it was from years of people just dropping their sticks and their lines and everything.
Yeah, that's what my mind, how I justified it.
It's a dead eye.
It doesn't have to make sense.
True, but when it was happening, I was like, oh, God, ugh.
But yeah, I don't know.
I didn't think I was in like this movie at all, like 10, 15 minutes into the movie because you're introducing all these characters.
And they just all felt dirty to me.
Who was that one in the big?
getting dirty.
What are you talking about the one in the lake?
Yeah, the one in the lake.
Who was that?
That was from the beginning of the first one.
Or the beginning of Evil Day Rise.
Yeah, the scene where they were out at the lake.
Yeah.
Where she took the drone to the face.
Yeah, all right.
Okay.
That's the way.
I need to rewatch that one, man.
It's a good one.
Yeah, it's a good one.
It's worth the rewatch for sure.
I've seen it, I think, three times now.
Yeah, I did, so, all right, I guess I'll say I thought I was really going to dislike this one.
I thought, oh, we finally got a bad, evil dead movie.
Because I'm thinking about mine, four on ten, four on ten, four on ten.
Oh, oh.
You know, and I'm like, these people are dirty.
I don't, I don't, this little schick with the funeral with all the fucking noises going on behind.
Because they plan a funeral where they're doing construction work, really?
That was kind of weird.
That'll be a European thing.
To me, it was stupid.
And I'm like, I'm not going to like this.
Well, the people feeling dirty, it kind of goes with the underlying theme because each of the past three movies had an underlying theme.
This one had to do with abuse.
You know what?
That makes perfect sense.
And that's probably, you know, probably why he made that decision.
You know, like the nightclub scene and all that.
I'm like, and then the funeral, oh, my God.
So then we get to the dinner.
table scene in the house. Oh, and it's a dirty house, right? It's like an old decrepit.
Like, every time something falls on the floor, you all notice dust comes up. Yeah.
Like there's spider webs everywhere and yeah. Yeah, because the sun didn't take care. That's not a
spoiler. The sun didn't take care of it. The sun didn't take care of it. And these weak
millennials, boy, this sun. But anyway, we'll get to that. Oh my God. We're going to get some in
spoilers. We'll get to that. But I don't know. I get to that dinner table scene and there is just,
I started feeling this tension.
Like when the dude was reaching for the corkscrew,
and then he was holding the knife,
and they were like taking the knife away from him,
and then the dog, man.
And I'm like, they are not going to go there.
Damn shame what happened to the dog.
Jesus Christ, dude.
When that happened, I hate to say it,
but I was all fucking in.
And I was on this roller coaster ride the whole goddamn time
until you got to that final third,
the last part of the third act,
and it lost me,
a little bit.
T1,000 scene.
Oh, man, you're talking about the, the camera angles.
Pedro, there was one camera angle up from above.
I love that.
Looking down and they're in one room, right?
And then they go into another room and the camera kind of follows them from above.
You know, and then I thought that scene, yeah, with the choking with the plastic bag, was phenomenal.
How about that, uh, is it a spoiler?
The mirror scene?
There wasn't a bad thing.
I don't, I think this is like.
Look, I'm going to say it now.
This was my favorite of the three new ones.
You guys know what I'm talking about, though?
Yeah.
The mirror scene?
There were a couple of, like, there were broken mirrors and stuff.
She's going to get her face smashed into something,
and she's coming straight towards us,
and then the transitions to her.
Her face getting smashed into the mirror.
That's, yeah, that was the one.
Oh, yeah, that was the game.
I remember enough.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I was just on this roller coaster, and it, like, it never let up.
It was just like nonstop action, all kinds of body trauma.
Like, yeah, abuse and trauma is like all written all over this film.
Everybody took a beating in that movie.
Everybody.
Everybody took a beat in the final girl.
Even when you thought you were about to see Ash in Ash's chainsaw glory and then you had to wait
because the item got put down.
Yeah, that was good.
I like that.
He's in a picture.
Yeah, he's on the wall.
What?
Yeah.
Are you shitting me?
I never noticed that.
When the grandma was going.
up stairs in her little
her chair.
They show it going really
there was pictures on the wall
and they show them really quick.
That was that one little humor.
I love the way you interjection.
But is that supposed to be
Ash or just Bruce Campbell?
I don't know.
I would like to think it's just
Bruce Campbell.
She's a big Bruce Campbell fan.
Like, yeah, I don't know.
She's a fan of the series, Hercules.
Hercules.
She watches Hallmark movies.
Briscoe County Jr.
Yeah.
Because that's, that's going to open up on new questions.
Spider-Man.
All right.
That's it.
That's it for me, guys.
I'm going to get into spoilers.
Yeah, I really enjoyed this.
I don't think there's been a bad, evil-dead movie.
I have a hard time ranking it because I feel like I need to re-watch all of them.
I really want to watch this one again, too, actually.
I had a good time with it.
I think it was, like, just very...
visceral and
yeah gross
which is exactly what an
Evil Dead movie should be
it was it was a little lacking on the comedy
but
all of them are I'm okay with that
yeah the last three the last three are very very like serious
yeah that's not what Sam Ramey wanted
them to be he didn't want it to be humor
yeah so
and that's what I'm okay with that
because like the first three
had some funny moments
and they were a little silly
even in the first couple of them, you know?
I mean, obviously Army of Darkness
was pretty comedy-centric.
Yeah, over the top.
But like the first two even had some
even with their
like visceral raw stuff
like the tree rape scene.
That was hilarious.
But they still had some like silly stuff in there,
you know, that was like...
Ash with his hand and everything.
Yeah.
Yeah, there you go.
And like the shaky cam stuff was a lot of fun.
And that stuff is kind of missing in these last three movies,
but I'm okay with that.
I think it's a new evil dead for a new generation.
And I think it's working, man.
They're pulling it off.
At least it doesn't suck.
Because it could have very easily sucked and it doesn't do that.
Are men just evil in this trilogy of films?
how come we can't go back to guys i mean i'm i mean hate me if you want but good point
that the last three movies have been uh the final girl the heroin which is fine i mean i
love them throughout horror though nans but no i'm talking about in these who was the evil man
and evil did rise i mean i don't know i mean there's no i think i think that's saying they're a bunch
of pussy so can't be the final girl because ash was the ash was the final guy i mean why can we
have five guys.
And they don't have any bad asses.
All the men in these movies are worthless.
No, but the Feddy Albert, remember the Feddy Alvarez, he would have that one guy who wouldn't die.
I remember that.
Like, he just, he was getting all mangled up throughout the entire movie.
And then, I think at the end, he did die.
But for a long time, he just wouldn't die.
And he kept on getting fucked up in different ways.
Right, right.
Ryan, they remember that?
Because you just watched it.
Yeah, he was the one.
I read from the book and is just getting needles to the eye.
That's right.
Yeah.
And then he became a dead eye at the end.
Yeah.
Well, if I run across some weird Latin, I'm definitely not reading it out loud.
Don't read it.
I mean, the instructions tell you.
Don't read it.
And then they just read it.
And same thing with gremlin.
The rules were simple.
I like the way they did it in the...
Well, I don't think they had a choice in this movie.
That's how I'll say.
I like the way they did it in the Evil Dead Rise.
Because he didn't read anything.
He played a record.
Oh, yeah.
That's true.
Damn, I forgot.
I need to watch that movie again.
Yeah, how would you not know?
I mean...
Okay, but this is where it gets confusing.
This is where they started new rules in this movie because forget about the record or the spell.
There was already deadites on the way.
And I'm trying to be as vague as possible.
So it was like the family was already fucked.
regardless. Like you didn't have to read the spell or play the record.
They were because of the dagger, right? So they were...
All right. Y'all want to get a spoiler alert? Yes.
Yeah, all right. Scores. Nes.
I'll give it an eight.
That's more than I expect.
More than I thought he was going to say.
I'd give it an eight.
All right. Not quite hella good. It's just good.
No, it's good. Yeah.
Pedro? I'll give it a seven and a half.
I have to watch it again
but yeah that's my score
Brian
7
Lance
7.9
I can't give it an 8
because I don't think it's going to be
on my top 10 at the end of the year
But somehow you feel guilty
if you give it like a 7
The reason I feel guilty giving it an 8
is because I want to give it an 8
truthfully but that end
ish
Yeah
The T-1000 and well
phish god
CGI I know
And then that well
yeah you think that was an added late that scene
it felt way out of place
they probably said it's too short we need to add something
but I thought that was the but I thought that was the pun of the title
of the movie that entire scene that's what I thought anyway
because I don't know why else it would be called that other than that scene at the end
but whatever at the very or at the very beginning in the car
I thought it was just because of the beginning
oh that's true yeah for sure
all right
Uh, seven and a half.
Spoilers, let's go.
So we all liked it.
Yeah.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
Yeah, I wish they would have done more.
If you're going to do that to the dog, do something with the dog.
Like, how would be a badass through the rest of the movie, you know?
And I kind of did.
Not really.
I mean, he was there with the dad.
In a few little scenes.
Yeah.
But it would have been cool if he would have done more shit, you know?
Right.
Yeah, let's talk about that, that third act.
It was horrible.
Oh, it was really bad, huh?
You know, and to me, it was a whole different movie.
It was a whole different vibe.
Like, it was.
And then, okay, so now I can fully talk about it.
What's the of these fucking superpowers they have now?
That's not.
We've never had a dead.
What do you mean, though?
It was always hard to kill him, dude.
Even head trauma.
No, no, but they're scarier than zombies.
But having superpowers, not not fucking living forever and shit.
Like, like, I've never seen a dead I turn a water hot and shit and burn that one dude.
Like, she just, you know.
Yeah, I guess we haven't seen that.
I mean, they're demons.
It makes sense.
No, I don't know.
In the first three evil beds, they were just creepy and they would look at you funny and they would fuck with you.
but they had limitations.
And this one, all of a sudden,
they have superhero powers and shit,
and they're moving up and down.
And then the main guy, the abuser, the husband,
he comes, he damn near gets out of his own casket and comes over an attacker.
Like, they've never shown that before.
So, I don't know.
I was just a little confused by that.
Like, I was like, what the fuck's happening here?
Like, now this is a new,
there are new rules that we have to go by now.
Relentness.
It's a different book.
Oh, that's what you were going to tell me.
That's right.
I guess I missed that.
It didn't even look like any of the other books.
It's a different book that they're reading from and different things can happen because
in Evil Dead Rise when the recording was playing and it said he.
Which is Bruce Campbell, by the way.
People forget.
Yeah, which is an Evil Dead Rise when the recording's playing.
It said he burned him, dismembered him, and they still kept coming back.
and there's nothing you can do
not like yeah
and like the original trilogy
you were gonna tear them apart
and burn them and then everything was all good
there were no more
because they told them all you had to do
is you had to just remember them
chop them up do whatever
yeah that's right
since this is a whole new
multiverse
I don't know whatever they're doing
we have to remember
there's three books
yeah that's true
there is three books yes
yeah
from whatever
I went down a deep rabbit hole of YouTube videos explaining the Evil Dead franchise,
and the books don't do the same thing.
No.
So we've already seen all three books, right?
That was one in Evil Dead, Rise, this one, and then the one in Evil Dead.
In this one, I don't think it was the book.
It was more of a scrapbook.
That's what it looked like.
Yeah, it wasn't the actual book of the Dead.
It was just all the research that that guy had put together.
I think it was the research from the evil dead rise book.
Okay.
That could be a plot hole though, right?
Because didn't they come after what was read in the scrapbook instead of an actual
ancient book?
No, no, that's what I was going to say.
Yeah, because the movies, so somehow they find out that this family has the dagger, right?
Where they need that dagger because that could kill them.
So that's why at the beginning, the one, that one girl in the lake, she's already setting it up to go after the family.
knows they're coming and they're going to go wait for the husband to force the automobile
accident and then somehow get into him and then he's going to get into the dad and so on and so
forth. So the the spout didn't even matter in this movie. They were already on their way regardless,
you know, because they found the dagger and they were they were going to go get it. And that's
another thing like how I don't know, it was just they could also just transfer like because
Homeboy was dead already. I guess he was a dead idol, so that makes sense. And the dad
he got it from from the sun and then he spread it all over the family okay um but yeah no i mean
that that's that was my only complainer but you guys did a pretty good job explaining you know
how it made sense uh because it was a different book and and it was just a whole different scenario
and that also explains the post-credit scene of uh what's her name coming back from
yeah i saw that okay but wasn't but wasn't she all melded with all that
the other deadites in the apartment complex?
Yeah, she was like that monster thing at the end.
So how did they separate her ashes to be like perfect again?
And that...
That I can't explain, but...
Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe in the next movie.
Yeah, maybe they'll explain it, right?
But out of the original trilogy, the Ash,
I did some research too, and this one guy was explaining it,
that he's...
If he's right, Ash was caught in a time loop.
Because if you listen to...
you all the
the lure of it and what the
archaeologists and all them were saying
about the book of the dead
and everything and then an army of
darkness ash goes back
and gives that book of the
dead to I can't remember to whoever
and it's like it's just going to repeat
itself over and over and
over I mean because they were saying that's why
the original one
was almost pretty much the exact same
movie as Evil Dead
2
because they were
They were, they were like, yeah.
Multiverse.
He's caught in this thing, so it's going to be different.
And I'm like, well, okay.
Because I always had that.
When Evil Dead 2 first came out, I went and saw it.
And then I was watching it and I was happy.
But then I was like, well, didn't he die in the first movie?
Because we see him at the end when the camera gets him.
And then it's like he's doing the exact same thing all over again.
in the second film.
So I was kind of like, okay,
but then I don't know,
I don't know, maybe Sam Ramey had a better,
a bigger budget, so he's able to just
really do what he wants.
So, but this one,
so I don't know, I mean, you guys can do the research,
there's videos, everyone breaking those movies down,
and this one, of course, is something
totally different.
This is totally different from the first and the second one
in this new trilogy.
Yeah.
So, I mean,
I like them the way they came out.
One, evil dead, then rise, then this one.
But I'm just, I was just kind of like, all right, I mean, there's so much, I mean, you got to really pay attention to these movies.
And everyone just goes to enjoy it.
I just went to see entertain me.
I want to see blood and guts and dead eyes.
But these dead eyes and these movies don't scare me like how they looked in the first trilogy.
I like the white eyes and the creepiness and all that.
This one, they're just, what's her name?
She looked sexy in the second one when she was a dead eye.
That one girl that ate the glass and Rise was pretty creepy looking.
Yeah.
That one that ate the glass.
She was pretty creepy looking, I remember.
But I mean.
It was kind of sexy in this one.
Yeah.
The one rolled around with her thong hanging out.
That's right.
Yeah.
I noticed that too, Brian.
Ryan.
Well, yeah, when it got to the end, when we see the husband, I was like, did you blow all your budget in the beginning with all the practical effects?
Yeah, it seemed that way, right?
It just, yeah, yeah, T-1000 was the first thing that came to my head, and I was like, I'm out of rather, I mean, it could have just did a stop animation or whatever, and that would be fine.
They should have been a callback to the original one.
Exactly.
Yeah. They should have done claymation.
But I think my...
My favorite part in the movie is when the...
The dad, the father-in-law, or whatever, that part with the gun...
I was just blasted himself.
I was like, what the fuck?
Yeah, which is why these are scarier than zombies, because they're zombies, but they've had demons in them.
So even head trauma can't take them out, you know?
Yeah.
I mean, everything and everything that was cool, I enjoyed it, but the only thing that really, like, grossed me out,
which isn't really
there's no gore or anything in the scene.
The grandma's tongue.
No.
When they took grandma's teeth out of her mouth.
Yeah.
That's kind of gross.
And it cleaned it off and then gave it back to her.
She was infecting her.
Yeah.
She was infecting her.
But that was the only part that creeped me out of there while I was sitting there
eating my popcorn.
I had to stop.
And I was like,
oh, really?
That and the pen and the ear were like,
Oh, that got me big time.
What about that Winnie, that Winnie, a boyfriend or whatever he was,
like the main guy that, well, what a representation of today's youth that guy was.
Yeah, exactly, huh?
Yeah.
What a pushover.
That encapsulates everything we've been talking about.
The show, the whole shows had a theme, hasn't it?
His dad whooped his ass pretty bad.
And then you just see him all dead coming down from the rooftop.
He just flashes down.
That was it.
That was there.
I was there, and then he became a deadite.
Right.
But, yeah, what, yeah.
He went down easy, didn't he?
Yep.
And you thought the whole movie was going to be built around him
because that was his house.
He just didn't take care of it.
He's a lazy fuck.
Millennial.
Yeah, he was a fucking weenie
because you got that scene with his girlfriend,
the dad's about to kill the girlfriend in the car
and she's screaming for him to help.
And then he just runs out the car and runs away.
Yes.
Oh, that was another cool scene.
The car scene was awesome.
The way it was shot.
That was a lot of great scene.
The whole movie was awesome.
except the beginning and the end for me.
Right.
Well, with the word has been going to be doing, I thought that was fun.
It was just the end for me.
I liked everything else up to that.
Right.
For me, it was the opposite of a shit sandwich, you know.
Anyway, I got a rule.
My plan's coming down.
All right, man.
Please go take care of that plane.
Yeah.
Brian and I will be back with stream fiends and action, I think.
Yeah, one of those.
Yeah, life has been in the way.
And if you guys know,
what's going on. You know what's happening.
But I'm out of here. Sorry, crew. Peace.
All right. All right.
All right.
Yeah. So,
no, I had a good time with this movie.
It was, it was, all in all, it was a fun movie.
Yeah.
Plot holes and everything and whacking it.
It was a fun.
We need more movies like this, you know, in the theater.
Yeah.
Definitely on the upside of some of the other stuff that's happened.
I'm kind of said that it didn't make it wasn't as successful as they thought it would be,
But then that seems to be the story of the box office over the last month or so.
People are going to move.
Moana was a big flop.
Really pull them in.
You know, Supergirl was a big flop.
So they're all flopping right now.
They don't want to watch the entertainment.
No, Spider-Man is going to.
Spider-Man already made his money back and just preview showings alone.
Spider-Man is going to make $500 million.
Yeah.
I'm actually kind of stoked about the Spider-Man.
And the Odyssey, too.
the Odyssey's also going to make a lot of money.
I hope so.
We're going to talk about within the woods?
Let's go within the woods.
Writer and director.
I'll be right back, guys.
Of course.
And I didn't see it, so y'all go ahead and talk.
It was 30 minutes.
Life gets in the way.
It couldn't figure out of work yourself.
For 30 minutes.
Writer and director, of course.
Sam Rainey.
This was the movie that started it all.
The short film that started it all.
Let's see.
Storyline is a group of friends.
Spend a weekend at a remote cabin
and one of them accidentally desecrates
an Indian burial ground.
This causes him to turn into a zombie
and kill off his friends.
They must band together to try and survive
being massacred.
All right.
Pedro, you want to start us off?
What do you think about within the woods?
Yeah, I mean, you have to,
obviously you have to analyze it within the context and limitations
of what they were working with.
Right.
I think Sam Ramey at this point had to be 18, 19 years old, maybe.
And it's on YouTube, by the way.
Right.
But it's also a special feature in one of the Evil Dead releases.
I forget which one.
And a better quality.
And so, so yeah, so just taking that into consideration.
I thought it was a very, very good movie.
I mean, I don't want to say fun because the version that I got was very difficult to watch.
You know, it wasn't the best quality.
Yeah.
But you could see a lot of the talent there.
You could see that this guy had what it takes to be like a mainstream filmmaker,
just in the way the story moved and, you know, a lot of the action beats.
And it was a very simple story, you know, one by one.
They desecrated the burial.
and one by one, they get, like, possessed and kill each other.
So, you know, I got to say that it was a good film.
It's a good film.
I'm surprised that he's never tried to adapt it to make it longer, like an actual real movie.
So maybe at this point it would be compared to Evil Dead a little too much,
so maybe that's why he never did it.
Because it's essentially like an Evil Dead's cousin, right?
I mean, even though he's not part of the lore, it's still kind of the same.
This is more of a burial ground that they desecrated.
It's going to do with it.
like deadites but still it's a little too close so maybe that's why he just said fuck it we'll just leave
it as his but it is kind of kind of the gist of the evil dead it was just like a very early
idea of how they got there and then i guess they came up with the book of the dead and all that
afterwards right right so so that's all my thoughts on it brian what you think yeah i agree um
it was pretty good for what they had to work with there's a lot of elements that they went
to become the evil dead
with the camera shots and the scenes
in the woods and of course
his longtime partner Bruce Campbell
is in it super young with the glasses
yeah
I so like the shitty copy
that I was watching I like
the lighting was terrible
I couldn't tell if it was Bruce Campbell
or
or the other Ramey
the brother that they
they always
Ted?
Ted,
yeah.
Couldn't tell
if it's
Bruce Campbell
or Ted Bramey
the whole time.
Yeah,
the quality
on YouTube
for that
copy is not the
greatest.
There's a couple
copies on
YouTube
and the track
there's tracking
issues and lighting
issues
and
Oh,
I thought part
of the tracking
thing was part
of it.
Was it?
I don't know,
was it?
Did he make
it like
a found
footage type thing?
That's sort of
what it looked
like maybe it was just shitty film and that's all they had left well we could ask lance if he'd
watch it yeah you could but i did i did man and i and i had it on i did watch an interview with
bruce campbell where he was talking about how he was the monster in it so i was i was definitely
intrigued i'm gonna go back there there there was for for what they had to work with and
the amount of money they had to work which was very little there was good makeup effects in it
yeah that's true and some great camera shots
really yeah 30 minutes short huh
like I felt like uh they've got that that that scene where he's like
standing in the doorway and it's all like backlit
and he's like raising his hands in the air and stuff I thought that was pretty
great that was that was very evil dead looking
and then you get the classic evil dead dead eyed demon cam
when she's running through the woods.
Yeah.
So a lot of,
a lot of,
a lot of prerequisite stuff for,
yeah,
like a lot of like future,
like he was just polishing a lot of his craft with this movie.
Yeah.
And then we would see it later on
with all these weird wacky visuals
and camera angles,
which are very Sam Ramey-ish.
All his movies have all those weird angles.
Yeah.
Well,
and you know what?
that's how you hone your craft man
start young and just start swinging
yeah
Lance what do you think of this movie?
Backrooms are obsession
It is how you get back rooms
or obsession man we got a lot of
young up-and-comers
like coming out with some new shit
that's not just
remakes and reimaginings of the same
old shit that we get
that's the only way you make any freaking money
at the movie at this point is remakes
and stuff.
And I think we finally got some original stories out there
and it's kind of great.
Well, we are going to default back to the IPs here
for the next couple of months anyway.
Even the guy that directed weapons,
I mean, he's going to come out with Resident Evil in September.
That's right.
That's right.
So yeah, so we're going back to the IP shit,
but it was nice to have that little run
with all these young guys directing these great movies
that were all very original.
We'll see.
Well, I think maybe this plants the seeds for what could come in the future.
And so maybe we...
All this is planned the seeds for is obsessions or obsession two.
That's how this is doing.
You're probably right.
All right.
Are you guys done talking about that you all rated or give it scores?
I'm going to give it this movie 7.5 on 10.
Damn.
This is a short.
Wow.
30 minutes in and out.
Yeah, I'll go with that score of 7.5.
Yeah, I mean, I think so.
Like, does it actually deserve a 7.5 just based on the merits of the movie alone?
No.
But considering when it turned out to be in a very, very young Sam Ramey, it's a lot of fun to watch.
And I'll definitely give it a seven and a half.
Considering what it spawned, yeah, would definitely.
Yeah, these are the building blocks.
Lance said that this movie was too long for me.
He just didn't have time to watch.
I'm going to watch it this week.
I'll talk about it.
I'll talk about it next week.
Yeah, it's a crappy copy, man.
The lighting is terrible.
You can't even really tell who's in the movie.
But it's a fun story, and they've got some good effects.
Right.
And some really great camera angles and stuff.
Nice.
All right.
