Welcome back, one and all, to the horror returns.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Lance is not with this again tonight, but I'm Philip, and here's Brian. What's up, Brian? What's up? Just the two amigos tonight. No special guests. Yeah, I'm sure we'll get back to a regular schedule. A little delayed on getting this one out.
Starting point is 00:01:22 But, you know, things happened. Yeah, summertime, you know. Well, you got a cool the week? Not really. I'm doing, because of Avengers Doomsday coming out, I'm doing a MC rewatch. Ooh, nice. And because we're getting the X-Men and Doomsday,
Starting point is 00:01:45 my daughter has not seen. any of the X-Men. Any of them? No, she knows who Wolverine is, of course. You know, I don't know that we've ever gone through the X-Men either. Yeah, so we're starting on the third one. The second one's the best, because that's... Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:07 That's the Wolverine-centric one. Yeah, definitely the best. One was kind of a trip to watch because everybody was so young and Hugh Jackman's not as jacked as he is now. Yeah, and you got to remember, that was like the first good superhero movie. Yeah, I think that one came out in 2000.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Mm-hmm. So, over 20 years ago, so we've been doing that, and I think we're going to we're going to kind of be all over at place with the MCU. I don't think we're going to do a straight chronologically. Well, there's so many. movies.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Yeah. I think we're mostly going to hit the ones because she's seen most of the MCU movies. Yeah. So I think we're going to hit the ones she hasn't seen. We're definitely going to rewatch the Spider-Man movies because we already have our tickets for a Spider-Man brand new day. Are you more excited about that one or Doom's Day?
Starting point is 00:03:07 I think Spider-Man a little bit. I think me too. I don't know where they're going with the story. Well, I heard something about the behind. the scenes being kind of a mess on Doomsday. Yeah, I heard a lot of, a lot of egos. Yeah, a lot of different, different chefs in the kitchen, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Well, we'll talk about that in the trailer part. But, yeah, I guess X-Men is all I got. I didn't have a chance to watch anything else. Oh, man, I'm trying to rack my brain and think about what did I watch. So Izzy and I went through an evil dead thing. So she watched all the evil dead remakes. We haven't got to the old ones yet. Nice.
Starting point is 00:03:56 But, I mean, they've already seen Army of Darkness, but it's been a long time. That was like one of the first ones because it was, you know, it's relatively PG. It's not super scary, more comedy. Do you think you guys will get into the show? Yeah. think so. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:04:20 I imagine she will, because Izzy's 13. And she's kind of a horror movie veteran at this point, so she'll watch it with me. Go back and revisit. And that's, man, I think that's all I got. My family
Starting point is 00:04:40 was down. We did watch something else. But I can't remember. Oh, the nutty professor. I've seen that in years. Hercules. that shit is so funny. When they're at the dinner table and the old grandma. Come on,
Starting point is 00:04:59 Cleetus. Come on, Cleetus. Come on a little bit. Ain't but a short walk. I'm dying. Eddie Murphy's one of the greats. Should have won an Oscar for that one. Does such a great job of playing so many different characters. Yeah, and he really, like, changed his character. He played Richard Simmons in that one.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Yeah. It was a while. But yeah, that's what I got for Cool the Week, man. What kind of headlines we got? Let's see. Final Destination 7 rumor. A.J. Cook, who was the final girl in the second movie. I think the only one that actually survived in the franchise.
Starting point is 00:05:47 The final, final destination for real this time. Yeah. The rumor is they're talking about bringing her back for the new one. Okay. Maybe Jeff ain't forgot about her. I mean, the final destination is one of the few film franchises where you can just keep making those movies and doing stupid Rube Goldberg death scenes and it's never going to get boring. Yeah, but they're going to have to do something because they did something different with the new one, the whole bloodlines.
Starting point is 00:06:23 So I think they're going to have to do something different again to kind of keep it fresh. Yeah. Well, the story is less important than the kills. Yeah. There's that many of them. Zach Craigger gave an update on the Gladys movie.
Starting point is 00:06:47 It probably won't be his next next movie. because he's working on Resident Evil. He has another movie that is that he's working on right after that. So it'll probably be the one. It'll probably be the third movie.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Okay. Yeah. I'm all right with that. Yeah. Give us a little bit of a break. So that, you know, we're excited when it comes out. Because, like, weapons was good,
Starting point is 00:07:14 but it wasn't like, oh my God, I need another one right now, you know? Yeah. I've rewatched it recently. I don't think, I think it was, I was into the hype more so than anything. Yeah. It is, it is a little bit long. It was just the first good movie in a while.
Starting point is 00:07:36 I guess we can talk about some, since we're doing Avengers Doomsday trailer, we can talk about the announcements, a couple, couple pretty exciting announcements for the MCU. Ryan Gosling cast as Ghost Rider Oh, I saw that For a motorcycle or a car Car, he's the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider
Starting point is 00:08:00 Oh, I like the motorcycle That one was I forgot the guy's name Jaime Reyes Okay I think that's that ghost rider But no he's gonna be the Johnny Blaze one And this one's
Starting point is 00:08:17 I was worried when I saw the announcement because I was like, that's cool. That's cool. He's cast it, but is it a movie or is it going to be a Disney Plus show and it's going to be a movie? Okay. I expected it. I mean, Ryan Gosling's a pretty big deal. Yeah. And one of the few
Starting point is 00:08:33 people that hasn't been a superhero or has he? No, I mean, he's been he's going to be in that new Star Wars movie that comes out next year. Okay. And which they must be pretty high on it because the director of that is Sean Levy who did Deadpool and Wolverine. He's going to be the director of Ghost Rider.
Starting point is 00:08:54 So they're reteaming him and Ryan Gosling. So they must have had good chemistry on the new Star Wars movie. Okay. That's, it sounds like they're at least going in the right direction. Because like these are the first Marvel movies that have been excited about it all. And yeah, about time we have a new Ghost Rider movie.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Yeah. And the other big news was, uh, we got a new Black Panther. David Johnson. and who we've been pretty high on him. He was in the Long Walk and Alien Romulus. Oh, okay, yeah. I like him.
Starting point is 00:09:31 He's going to be the son of Tachala, which people were kind of like, isn't he too old to play the sun? But this comes out after Avengers Secret Wars, which comes out next year. So Black Panther 3 will come out in 2008, and there will be a time, jump because Kevin Faggy, the president of Marvel, said Avengers Seeker Wars is going to be basically like a reboot of the universe. Okay. I'm cool with that. I think that's a great idea. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:09 I think that was it for Marvel. During the Avengers Dunez Day panel, Ryan Gosling showed up in his Deadpool costume in the crowd. so I don't know if he was hinting at he's going to be an Avengers Doomsday or there's going to be another did you see his questions to the panel yeah yeah because he seemed like disappointed that he wasn't he was like so are you already done filming or no reshoots yeah I like they brought up the insane from Deadpool and Wolverine he was like so Why was Thor holding me crying? Exactly.
Starting point is 00:10:57 But he also was in not the regular Deadpool costume. He was in the gray and black, which is the X-Force costume. Yeah. So they could be doing an X-Force movie. Because he did tease earlier in the week that he was writing something for Deadpool. Wolverine is X-Force, right? I think he was kind of jumping in and out. So, I mean, he could be in there.
Starting point is 00:11:23 I know they're both definitely going to be an Avengers Secret Wars because that's kind of bringing everybody. Okay, so maybe they'll bring Hugh Jackman in for that one and then maybe get a new Wolverine going. It wasn't really a lot of news out of Comic-Con. It looked fun, though. It seemed like Ryan Reynolds was just walking around the crowd
Starting point is 00:11:48 with no security or anything, his suit. Yeah, I saw that. He was taking pictures. People just thought he was just a cosplayer. Yeah. Damn, that's a professional level
Starting point is 00:12:00 costume. That's badass. Although there's a lot of Deadpool costumes that look pretty good. There's a dude down the street flipping signs with a Deadpool costume that looks pretty good. Did we talk about Cindy Sweeney
Starting point is 00:12:16 producing and starring in an updated version of Sleepy Hollow, the legend of Sleepy Hollow. I don't think so. That's neat. It's going to be like a horror
Starting point is 00:12:28 slash erotic thriller. So people were asking, is she going to fuck the headless horseman? Because I think she's playing the love interest of Iqabod Crane.
Starting point is 00:12:42 And it's going to be told from her perspective. There's going to have to be a giving head joke in there somewhere. And they said something about a three-way love triangle. Hmm
Starting point is 00:12:54 So I think that's why people are like Is she gonna fuck the Headless Horsman? Maybe. Who else was in it? I think that she's the only one announced so far. Okay. Well, I like the... What's his name?
Starting point is 00:13:15 Johnny Depp in it. Yeah. Back in the day. See his trailer for Ebenezer? He's playing Ebenezer Scrooge. Oh, I heard about it. I don't think I actually saw the trailer. trailer though. Okay, maybe we'll talk about it on the next episode.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Okay. Seems interesting. I like it. Yeah, I'm not seeing anything. Somebody did pass away, though. A couple people passed away. Kaylee Hoddle, I don't know if I said her name wrong. She was the little girl in the Godzilla Kong movies. Oh.
Starting point is 00:13:59 The one that spoke to Kong. Oh. Yeah, she passed away at 18. Apparently it was a car crash. Yeah, that happens. And then a few days ago, Chuck Russell passed away. He was the director of Dream Warriors,
Starting point is 00:14:22 Nightman Home Street 3, The Blob. Classic. Last year's Witchboard remake. Nice. Yeah. Hella good, huh? Yeah. He sadly passed away a few days ago, too.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Yeah, the car wreck I always think about is Anton Yeltson. Oh, when the car slipped out of gear and rolled into him. Yeah, what a terrible accident, man. It killed a dude that was going to be huge. Yeah, he was a damn fine actor. And on that note, let's take a little trip down to the trailer part where hopefully cars don't slip out of gear. But we're going to bring you the big, the small, and sometimes the very, very weird.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Brian, what's our first new trailer this week? I guess we'll, since we were talking about Avengers Doomsday, let's talk about the trailer. What did you think of the new trailer? I'm not going to get into the cast because it's pretty long list of cast names. Yeah, it's given me A very Like Infinity War End games kind of vibe
Starting point is 00:15:36 Which I think Yeah, which I think was kind of the point They're bringing it back to something big That everybody can be excited about In order to hopefully Start this thing over Come out with some new ideas Instead of stringing 50 movies along
Starting point is 00:15:55 Well, I know they said Kevin Foggies said basically they fucked up. They gave into fan demand and it became quantity over quality. Yeah. So there's going to be less Disney. There's still going to be Disney Plus shows,
Starting point is 00:16:11 but there's going to be less of them. I think that's a good thing in the long run. Well, and it was Spider-Man that was talking about in this one where he acted like they were just making up the script as they went along.
Starting point is 00:16:28 although they may have only been giving them little bits as they went along so that yeah i know tom holland doesn't get scripts he gets portions of it because yeah tends to talk too much oh well that makes sense we're like we're going to fix this problem because with the spider-man he was basically i don't know if he was supposed to say it but he was like the brand new day part of the title of spider-man does not you don't get the meaning until the the last scene of the movie. And I was just like, Tom, stop. Can't put that guy in front of a camera at all.
Starting point is 00:17:09 But I thought the trailer looked pretty good. I liked what Robert Downey Jr. is doing as Dr. Doom. I like the voice he's using because it did not sound like Robert Downey Jr. And from what I understand, he's going to be in the mask like 90% of the movie. Okay. You know what? Man, it kind of would have been cool if they had kept it a secret. I mean, I don't know if they'd have been able to do it.
Starting point is 00:17:35 That would have been cool, but I don't know this day and age. Yeah. There's too many, too many, too many people for that to get out there. But there are some cool stuff in the trailer. We got a Gambit fighting Shang-Chi. Yeah. Mystique. Changing into Yelena, fighting.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Yelena. Who wins Gambit versus Shang-Chi? I think Gambit would take it. Yeah, I mean, if it's a straight, straight-up fight,
Starting point is 00:18:11 I think maybe Shang-Chi. Yeah, but power-wise, I think Gambit might have him. Because he can, like, convert the energy back at him, right? Yeah. Yeah, something like that. I can't remember specifically
Starting point is 00:18:26 Gambit's powers. But he was always, he was always one of my favorites. He was a cool dude. And there's a scene in the movie that I think, Namor, who we last saw on Black Panther 2, that looks like a confrontation with the Wakandans. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:44 I think he might become an ally to Dr. Doom. Okay. Does Dr. Doom end up a good guy in this one? I don't think so. What about eventually? I mean, they can do that, but I want him to be the, I want him to be a villain. I don't want him to be the villain for a long time.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I don't want him to, like, when we finally got, really got Thanos, like, we got him for, like, two movies. Yeah, that's true. I bet you they turn him into a good guy. That's, that's, that's a big criticism of Marvel right there. They, they do not treat their villains well. Oh, they do not. We need some recurring guys.
Starting point is 00:19:33 And was it just, was it just me or did Chris, Evans face look funny. Botox? I don't know. It looked puffy. Botox. Or maybe
Starting point is 00:19:50 they added something in the trailer to throw you off and his face is going to be different in the movie. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:20:04 I was kind of when I seen it was like, oh, it's Chris Evans. I was like, is it Chris Evans? Is it?
Starting point is 00:20:11 Maybe it's not even Chris Evans. Is he cap in this one? How does that happen? I thought he was old. This is from, I guess, from the timeline at the end of Avengers, end game when he was dancing with Peggy.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Yeah. I'm assuming, because Loki's in the trailer, I'm assuming he goes and gets Steve. Oh, yeah, that wouldn't make sense. Well, see, with the multiverse, they can kind of do anything they want to, and it doesn't really have to make sense. yeah well this steve knows thor because they had that scene at the end when thor's like it's impossible and then he holds the hammer out and it goes to steve and he's like hey buddy yeah that's true so it's
Starting point is 00:21:02 got to be cap huh i don't know what maybe he's just steve rogers because he is on he is on there was like some fan not fan art like some official art from marvel and everybody's in their costumes and Steve's just in a black t-shirt. Is he a character named Nomad at any point? Yeah, he basically, they kind of did that in Infinity War. That's right. When he came back and he had the beard and... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:36 So maybe this is during that thing. Although, again, he gets that, I don't know. But that's why they do this stuff so people can guess. Yeah, I'm sure there was stuff taken out of the train. trailer as they do they edit stuff out yeah people out they like throw a little misdirection in because i think there was a scene and uh when gambit's fighting shang chie i think somebody said it looks like mystique was kicking somebody but there's nobody there so they possibly edited that person out for the trailer hmm we'd be fighting with shang chie
Starting point is 00:22:18 Interesting. Because there's quite a few people. Nightcrawler wasn't in the trailer. Oh, yeah. We didn't really, we saw the Fantastic Four, but we really didn't see them fighting with anybody. Yeah. And so how many of the X-Men are they bringing in? I mean, I saw Cyclops.
Starting point is 00:22:42 I know. I assume there'll be multiples. Cyclops, Gambit, Mystique, even though she wasn't really X-Men. She's more a bad guy Yeah Nightcrawler Professor X They want a little magneto to grow on in there
Starting point is 00:23:03 Yeah But she looked Super old Yeah They'll have to All team up to fight Doom Or do Or Dr. Doom's going to turn good
Starting point is 00:23:16 And they're all going to team up with Dr. Doom to fight the big bad Which is what I expect to happen I don't know what the big bad is. Avengers Dooms Day hits theaters December 18th, I believe.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Oh man, I didn't realize it was that far away. Same day as Doom Part 3, which I was talking to my daughter. Is there any going to be any movies, other movies showing in the theater when these two draw? I don't know. May as well stick all the screens on them.
Starting point is 00:23:55 They're the only ones that are going to make money for sure. Because if you think about it, these both, both of those movies are going to be close to three hours. Yeah. So is there going to be any room for any other movies to be showing? Yeah, because I mean, they're going to have to have them on multiple screens, I imagine. Because I know Doom Part 3 is taking up all the IMAX screens. Because I guess Avengers Doomsday is not going to be an IMAX. I still haven't done the IMAX thing.
Starting point is 00:24:30 I can take it or leave it. Yeah. I went once when I was young, and it was just some like fucking space scene. It was for school. Oh yeah, and they had us going through like the South Pole with the penguins and shit. It was interesting. I had a pretty good time with it when I was, you know,
Starting point is 00:25:00 10 but yeah I still want to check out what you might call it that in IMAX that came out the Odyssey yeah I still haven't seen that one because I heard that's that's a movie you have to watch an IMAX yeah
Starting point is 00:25:20 well one of the few that was actually shot in IMAX so it's meant to be there well I guess he used like I don't know if he created or somebody else created like brand new IMAX can cameras. Oh, okay. So he was using some new technology stuff. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:25:38 I said they only film for like three minutes at a time or some shit. Yeah. I heard it's Matt Damon's best acting he's done in his career. Really? Yeah. Guys a solid actor. Good and everything. I can't think of a bad Matt Damon movie.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Yeah, he's one of those actors where, even if the movie's bad, I don't necessarily ever think. was him. Yeah, like that stupid zoo one was kind of dumb, but it wasn't his fault. All right,
Starting point is 00:26:13 the other trailer apparently showed before they released it online, showed before the Odyssey, and it was Other Mommy. Starring Jessica Chastain and Jay Duplas.
Starting point is 00:26:31 Jay Duplas, who is Is that? Mark, you ever see Mark Duplas? Yeah. That's his brother. Oh.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Fun factoid. Yeah. This is directed by Rob Savage, and he is known for host, that Zoom. Oh, yeah. That's good one.
Starting point is 00:26:53 And the boogeyman. You know, I can't remember that one. I know I saw it. I think we reviewed it. I think we all liked it. Yeah. I think we, were kind of
Starting point is 00:27:06 thinking it might be bad because it wasn't rated R and it was based on a Stephen King book but it actually turned out to be pretty good. Oh, that's right. Okay. Yeah, it just, it was one of those that kind of blended into a bunch of other movies. So what did you think of other mommy?
Starting point is 00:27:26 I think it looks creepy as hell. I'm down. I like these creepy, possessed family horror things, although I think she might be a robot. Or yeah, or she could be a demon doppelganger. Yeah. I got a smile. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Feeling when watching this. Yeah. A little like smile, a little like that Megan Foxwoman where she was the robot. Oh, yeah. What was that called? Can't think of that name. Companion? No, that was the other one.
Starting point is 00:28:08 something else something along those lines there's a lot of robot movies where they're banging robots well if I was going to buy a robot you know what I'm saying yeah
Starting point is 00:28:27 yeah this one looks creepy I wish they wouldn't have showed that I mean I guess you have to but I wish they would have waited for the movie the scene where she was all contorted under the counter Yeah. That was the scene that got me. I was like, oh, this is, I mean, because it was already getting creepy and they showed that and I was like, all right, I'm in. Yeah, because I didn't, I've heard about it. I kind of forgot that it was coming out and then the trailer came on. Yeah. And I was like, oh, this looks kind of wholesome and family friendly. And then she's just kind of zoned out while the macaroni's burning on the stove.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Yeah. And then you get the contorted scene under the counter and I was like, oh, wow. Yeah. I'm kind of excited about it. I like Jessica Chastain. Yeah, this comes out October 9th. So, just in time for Halloween. All right.
Starting point is 00:29:27 I'm down. I'll be in theaters that watch this one. Yeah, I think I'm going to put this one on the schedule. Yeah, it looks like it fits. I want to figure out a little more. about it to see it pair it with yeah all right that's trailer park uh since this was short notice we'll talk about evanizer and mike flanagan's carry series next episode oh interesting all right on to listen to feedback uh this week we shine the podcast spotlight on pod mortum uh three
Starting point is 00:30:05 time rondo award winning uh award nominated podcast hosted by Renee Hunter Vasquez, John Paul Vasquez, and Travis Hunter Sayapin. Excuse me. Every Monday, the trio breaks down contemporary classic and cult horror films with scene-by-scene reviews, trivia, commentary, and humor. Great, great podcast. One of my favorites. Pod Mortum. Yeah, you get, even if you didn't know they were family.
Starting point is 00:30:38 You get that feeling that they're close. Yeah. By the way, they interact with each other, and I like that. And I believe they're from not too far from you. I think they're in Texas somewhere. Oh, nice. I know they frequent Texas Frightmare a lot. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Cool. Damn, we got to run into them. We need to do that again. Yeah, definitely. In regards to obsessions, bloody Nicki figure pop figurine. Pat Caruso says if there was a funco of her peeing her pants, I'd be sold. That was a very exorcist. You gotta have the throw up in the shit too.
Starting point is 00:31:25 Yeah. Just have her cooking a cat. I kind of want to re-review that movie because there's so much you get re-watching it. Yeah, it was a good movie, man. I was super impressed. Now I kind of blame the friends. Yeah, no kidding, right? Because there was a lot of, oh, this person said this, this person said that.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Did they really say that or was, you know, they're just saying this other person said for their own personal reasons. Yeah, and there was something about the cat too because like he was supposed to get rid of the cat or something, right? his friend. I can't remember I'll have to watch it again. Yeah, definitely. It's on streaming on Pekar. Yeah, that's where I watched it.
Starting point is 00:32:13 I was like, oh, damn, it's out there already. Let's get it. And I believe I probably could have talked about this in the news. It's now moved in the number of six slot of all-time highest-grossing horror movies. Nice.
Starting point is 00:32:28 I mean, I don't know if it's the best movie of the year, but you know what? It's definitely on the list. I saw somebody I forgot who was reviewing it. They were talking about the Odyssey. They're saying the Odyssey is the best made, acted, and directed
Starting point is 00:32:48 movie, but their personal favorite was the obsession. Okay. Getting some horror love. I like it. Maybe to win some awards. Yeah, I think she should definitely be nominated. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:04 But if any Murphy couldn't do it, I don't have hope for anybody. Dark Truths America They promised it could detect every lie Instead it made innocent people confess to crimes they never committed Would you still trust the truth in your own If your own mind turned against you Watch the full psychological thriller on Dark Truths America
Starting point is 00:33:32 And uncover what really happened inside the interrogation room That nobody was supposed to know existed I don't know what that is. Dark Truths America. I don't know what it is either. People posting some descriptions of their show and comments now. I guess so. Little ads.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Oh, and in regards to the Crystal Lake series, Damien Heft says her son went into outer space. That he did. Jason X. Super fun movie. It is. that kill with the sleeping bags is one of my favorites all time yeah and then the
Starting point is 00:34:14 freezing that girl's head and the cryo stuff and then smash it on the table yes it's very demolition man that's the one I got to watch again I rewatch that recently it holds up it's a fun movie yeah I miss Wesley Snipes
Starting point is 00:34:35 All right, Bill Scarsguard is leading our poll with who should be the next Freddie with 38%. Christopher Haynes says, number one is Miles Teller. Oh, number two is Paul Dano. And number three is Terran Egerton. Hmm. I think Terran Edgerton should be Wolverine. Yeah. I think that could work.
Starting point is 00:35:08 The guy from the Kingsman movie. Yeah. Paul Dano, I think, could pull off, Freddie. Miles Teller is a strange choice. Yeah, I don't know if you'd want to. Yeah. Probably wouldn't be great for his image. Out of those three, I see Paul Dano.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Yeah. All right. In regards to our horror returns clown shirt, Stephen Loblad says that one is wrong. rad. Yes, it is. That it is. Check out some search on the website, man.
Starting point is 00:35:45 They're awesome. www. Thehorrorterms.com. And regarding our nightmare shirt, Eric Roberts says Steve keeps on killing it with the designs. He really does, man. Steve is putting in the work. And he's messaged me with the next franchise we're getting into.
Starting point is 00:36:06 So I won't say it here. how it's surprise everybody, but interesting. It's going to be a fun one, and I have a prediction. Lance is not going to like when we get into the sequels. Well, that's probably most of them,
Starting point is 00:36:22 unless we're doing Godfather. All right, James Russell says I have a laser disc of this. Oh, my bad. Amityville, 1992. James Russell says, I have a laser disc of this. It's pretty good, actually. I don't think I ever saw.
Starting point is 00:36:39 an official DVD or Blu-ray directed by Tony Randall Hellbound and Hellraiser 2. There is a Blu-ray, but I think it's out of print. A laser disc, man. That's a blast from the past. That wasn't even popular when it was popular. It is now.

Starting point is 00:38:00 Who did these notes? The Vagrant from 1992 A businessman buys a house But he has a hard time trying to get rid of its previous tenant A dirty bum director is Chris Wallace, also known for the special effects on the fly. Writers are Richard Jeffries, also known for Cold Creek Manard. All right.
Starting point is 00:38:29 What did you think about The Vagrant, Brian? I didn't mind this one. Yeah. It kind of felt like an extended Tales from the Crypt episode. Oh, yeah. Which I did some looking into the director. previously directing this movie did direct an episode in season two of Tales from the Crip. It did kind of feel like a Tales from the Crip thing now that you say that, that's perfect.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Yeah. It's more comedy-heavy than horror. I wouldn't call this a horror comedy. I call it a comedy horror. When his mom rolls out from underneath the gurney and slides down the steps at the courthouse. I was like, he's just kind of like. standing there like, oh man. It's like, what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:39:21 It was a wild movie. I don't know if it could decide what it wanted to be. Yeah. Bill Paxton is great though. Yeah. He's hamming it up in this movie. And I miss that guy. That guy had range.
Starting point is 00:39:35 He can play any kind of genre movie. Yeah. Yeah. Well, he sort of played himself in every movie. But he did a really great. job of it. That's kind of how actors were back in the day. That's how a lot of actors still are, I guess.
Starting point is 00:39:50 Unless you get a Christian Bale character or something where he really changes it up on everyone. But it did kind of lose me after the trial. Yeah. He just ends up.
Starting point is 00:40:08 He's free. And then he ends of drifting or something. He goes to live in a trailer park? Yeah, to be the the trailer park manager or something. Yeah. That was weird.
Starting point is 00:40:24 And he's banging the bigger lady who he doesn't want to at first, but flash forward like a couple days later and he's like happy about it. Hey, she loves him and she cooks. Yeah. And more can you want. Dyes his hair blonde, I'm assuming to hide his identity. I guess so grows the sweet mullet.
Starting point is 00:40:47 and the bum when it's revealed that he's this former doctor that did experiments was his experiment trying to turn somebody crazy I guess so I yeah that you're right they did kind of lose me on that one it didn't exactly make a whole lot of sense
Starting point is 00:41:06 I mean it sort of did where it brought the movie together but like why why are we doing this again because that's not really an experiment yeah i mean if you are fucking with somebody and making them think they see things and see dead bodies and of course they're going to go crazy yeah
Starting point is 00:41:32 it also seems like it probably wouldn't have worked in real life because that guy would have got shot yeah but um i i enjoyed this one it's not the best from the best from the 90s, which we'll talk about a new poll I put up about horror movies from 1992 and who won that one. But for a movie I never seen and didn't really know nothing about, it was another enjoyable watch of Bill Paxton. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Yeah, I'll give credit where credit to do. I thought this was going to be really shitty. And it turned out to be kind of a good time. Like it wasn't a bad movie at all. I mean, it was a little silly and, you know, the giant plot holes that don't make any sense. But it had a certain charm to it, you know? And yeah, Bill Paxton is always the man. I think he did a great job in this.
Starting point is 00:42:38 He was carrying that movie on his shoulders. And it had Michael Ironside in it, who was the detective? Yeah. The way too serious brash detective for no reason. Yeah, well, everybody was not as serious. Yeah. And then I don't know if you know the bum, the vagrant, but that's Marshall Bell.
Starting point is 00:43:00 He was kind of like a character actor that popped out. Oh, okay. He was the gym teacher in a nightmare on Elm Street 2. Oh. He was in Starship Troopers. He was the bad guy in a twin. I forgot about that movie. Because he's like unrecognizable as the vagrant in this movie.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Then when I seen it was him, I was like, oh, cool. Yeah. I forgot there even was a bad guy in twins. Yeah, no, I, uh, I definitely, uh, definitely enjoyed it. Um, I thought the, uh, the effects of the, like, he did a really great job, the bum in this one. like he was pretty menacing. I don't know how you, how in the hell you invite a bum in to eat a sandwich
Starting point is 00:43:52 and then go take a shower like this. Yeah, that was weird. Yeah, like he was up her ass for that and she was like, what's the big deal? I just let this homeless crazy person into our house and jumped in the shower real quick. And then she eventually leaves him.
Starting point is 00:44:07 I'm like, good, good riddens. No kidding. It's not a man. No survival skills. She's going to go move to New York and get murdered in three hours. I'm looking at trivia here because we didn't really have enough. Said the SWAT raid scene that it took three days to film, 1,500 bullets hits to the set,
Starting point is 00:44:34 all which fired in less than one minute resulting in a less than 10 second on-screen time. Oh, wow. Yeah, that was a fun one. their guns through these holes in the fence. And then they're like looking through the scope. And I'm like, the only thing you're seeing through that scope is fence. And the writer Richard Jeffries based the character on a vagrant that actually lived across the street from his home. Oh, did he murder people too?
Starting point is 00:45:06 Maybe he made people crazy. Maybe. They did a pretty good job of making you, uh, it was, it was one of those, you know, you don't know whether he's, going crazy or not or whether the bum is actually there. Although there's, they probably shouldn't have had the scenes where like other people saw him too. Yeah. Because they were kind of getting me there when,
Starting point is 00:45:28 uh, they were introduced that he's sleepbox. Yeah. So I go, okay, maybe he did do it, but then when people were like seeing the vagrant also. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:41 I was like, okay. Then, or maybe. Maybe they could see, you know, like show them seeing the vagrant from like across the street where he's like, it's that guy over there. But yeah, where she invited him into the house, not only was it a stupid scene with a stupid person, but it doesn't really fit. And it kind of, that one scene was sort of a linchpin that destroyed the movie, I think. Now that I'm thinking about it.
Starting point is 00:46:11 but still fun. All right. What's your score on this one? You know what? I'm going to give it a seven. Oh, nice. I laughed.
Starting point is 00:46:23 I liked the acting in it for what it was, for what the movie was, because it's kind of a wacky movie. Yeah, definitely. And there was some good practical makeup effects in there,
Starting point is 00:46:35 especially with the vagrant. Yeah. Stuff with his face look pretty cool. and Bill Paxson putting in the work, man. Yeah, definitely. So I'm comfortable giving it a seven. I'm going to go six. That's good.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Yeah, still a very good time. Like, this was way better than I expected it to be. I wasn't going in with a whole lot of expectations to The Vagrant a 1992 horror movie with Bill Paxson that I'd never heard of. But it's on Tobe So definitely check it out Man, it's fun I think it's also on Prime Oh, I think you're right
Starting point is 00:47:22 People do have Prime Yeah Man, Toobie's solid I really like that thing Yeah, they got Good quality movies on there They used to just have shit Yeah
Starting point is 00:47:36 Now they got a Big selection of quality movies Yeah, TV shows that's where we found the nutty professor like there's all kinds of shit on there you get to sit through some commercials but I mean you have to do that with shit you pay for at this point
Starting point is 00:47:52 yeah all right on to waxwork to lost in time from 1992 a couple must use a portal through time to defeat evil all right
Starting point is 00:48:09 fair enough uh Director and writer is Anthony Hickox, also known for Hellraiser 3, Hell on Earth. Writer and director Anthony Hickox offered Dolph Lundgren, the part of Frankenstein's monster. But Lundgren turned it down because he's smart. Yeah, that was Ivan Drago era at that time. Yeah, he was on top of the world. At around an hour and 30 minutes, Drew Barrymore.
Starting point is 00:48:42 was a friend of Anthony Hickox and was visiting the set the day they were shooting the vampire sequence. He decided to put her in the scene for a brief cameo appearance. I did notice her. Nice. I missed it. It's the Nospharatu scene with the two girls in the bed. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:03 He's one of the girls. And freaking Ash was in it. Yeah, and David Carrotene. Yeah. Well, man, they had a lot of cameos in this one. I had a lot of friends. What did you think about waxwork two lost in time? I did not like this movie.
Starting point is 00:49:26 I enjoy the first one with the whole storyline of this object that makes the wax people and creatures come to life. Yeah. And I appreciate that they at least gave us a little bit of a briefing at the end of the beginning of the movie. Yeah, but once you, after that and you go into this movie, I'm just kind of like... It's a different movie. The fuck is going on. Every time it came back to a commercial, I'm like, am I watching the right movie? Yeah. I mean, I like the different time periods and stuff they were going through. with the portal.
Starting point is 00:50:14 But there's a period where we get stuck in one time period for like 45 minutes of the movie. Yeah. And it felt like they were trying to be Army of Darkness. Yeah. Yeah. It definitely had some evil dead meets Princess Bride moments. Yeah. And that synopsis.
Starting point is 00:50:34 They got a what was a couple must use a portal through time to defeat evil? is that why they went in the portal in the first place? Because I thought the severed zombie hand murdered somebody and got her. And they were pending the murder on her. And they had to go get evidence or something. Something. I don't know, man. I, that was, I, like, stopped paying attention for two seconds.
Starting point is 00:51:03 I got up and then I looked up and they were, like, in another time. And I was like, wait. Why are we doing this? Yeah, it just, that period where they were just stuck in the medieval times really took me out of it i mean i kind of got back into it once they were like fighting through different portals and they were in the nospheratu scene and then they were in the dawn of the dead mall scene that stuff was cool yeah that he ended up saving that girl from jack the ripper and stuff like
Starting point is 00:51:36 stuff like that i wanted more of yeah it's just they had this lag where we're stuck in it medieval times and it just really felt like they were trying to be army of darkness and it's like Bill and Ted go to a shitty horror movie I didn't understand the villain's motivation or who was the actual fucking villain I was gonna say I don't know who the villain was that's how I know my reviews sound shitty but that's just
Starting point is 00:52:07 how bored of the movie I was like I just I couldn't keep my eyes on it. I just kept picking up my phone and looking at other things, looking at, oh, we're still in medieval times. Okay. Yeah, I did too. Go back to my phone and then look up, oh, okay, we're finally out of this area. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:30 And another thing. Frankenstein's monster. Yeah, another thing I did like was when they were in these time periods, they talked and acted like. like they were in that time period. Yeah. Well, it's like they were, she,
Starting point is 00:52:49 she kind of like kept getting like sucked into the role or something. Yeah, I think, I think if you spend enough time in there, you forget. You forget. And then you kind of become the person of that era. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:07 But they just like to pop into somebody else's body like Quantum Leap? I don't know. This movie didn't really explain a whole lot. Kind of left you to figure out things yourself. Yeah, it was pretty all over the place. What did you think? Yeah, like literally and figuratively. It was all over the place.
Starting point is 00:53:31 It was like they, the music was so dumb. Like that, it just like immediately took me out of it. Like when the, the, the, the very beginning when the hand is attacking that guy and they're like you're playing bouncy cartoon music. I was like, what? What are you going for you? Yeah, it felt like you're watching a cartoon,
Starting point is 00:53:56 but you're watching a severed hand murder to somebody. Yeah. Like, it's Sylvester and Tweedy going to come in the side door here? What are we doing? And, you know, it had an awful lot of people in it for it to be so, a stupid movie. And I don't remember it existing at all. Maybe this is one of those
Starting point is 00:54:22 Mandela Effect movies. No, I'm sure. Nez, I think this was a straight-to-video release. Oh. Yeah, I think this was a straight-to-video release. That makes sense. Although it did have some relatively big names in there for being straight-to-video.
Starting point is 00:54:41 like that's what it surprised me man every time i looked up there was like a guy that i knew in this terrible movie i didn't understand it i'm telling you the director and had a lot of friends and a lot of drugs probably party on the set yeah that's the only explanation i can come up with what are we shooting today i don't know just throw something up there a different movie than we were shooting yesterday. I mean, it's the same. The main guy is the same one from the original or the first movie. He felt like a completely different fucking character in this one.
Starting point is 00:55:26 Yeah. Who was he? What was he in Gremlin's? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he did feel like a different character. See, and like he's a decent actor, isn't he? I don't know that I've ever seen him in anything else,
Starting point is 00:55:39 but I just remembered him from Gremlin's. Zach Galligan has been in the Gremlin movies the waxwork movies and well maybe not a lot of
Starting point is 00:55:56 straight-to-video stuff all right well I guess he went that route well that's a shame I was probably this movie that did him in yeah it looks like after gremlins too
Starting point is 00:56:12 he just did a lot of stuff I've never heard of including this movie. Yeah, and poor Ash was in there. Although that scene was pretty entertaining. They, like, accidentally throw salt on him.
Starting point is 00:56:25 He's, like, got his guts hanging out, and they accidentally throw salt on him, and they accidentally throw vinegar on him. They were fighting, like, a new villain in every scene, and it was, like, a different time period in every scene. And you would think that that would make the movie
Starting point is 00:56:41 a little more seamless, and, like, not so overbearing, you know? Like it'd keep you entertain the whole time. And it did not. And then we got David Carradine as a beggar or something for like, do you have like one line? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:05 It was like he just went out and grabbed people off the movie set. And I was like, hey, come step in here real quick. And like this guy did kung fu and a whole bunch of other movies and would, eventually be Bill and kill Bill and then you got him as a beggar. Yeah. With a line, if that. Yeah. That's probably what they did.
Starting point is 00:57:27 They just grabbed him off the set because he was walking around out there at Miramax or something. They were like, listen, you don't even have to change the costume. We'll, we'll do the scene around whatever it is that you're wearing. Yeah. I don't have a whole lot to say about this. movie except that it was bad. Yes, it was. All right. What's your score on waxwork
Starting point is 00:57:55 too? I did like some of the time periods they were in. They were kind of fun. I did like the cameos, but it's just that portion of the movie when they went in the medieval times. It just stayed there. And I didn't know what the fuck was going on or what was the purpose and why were they still there?
Starting point is 00:58:18 I don't even know who the villain was. I mean, I remember the villain, but I don't even remember him really being a villain. And the costumes were, like, kind of bad. Like, it was like when Martin went back to medieval times. You remember that movie? Yeah, because there's that scene where, I don't know if they were still in medieval times, but they're having a sword fight scene, and he's got the outfit and the hair. And it just fucking look ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:58:52 Yeah. It's like they just threw a party city wig on him. So let's go. So with all that being said, I think I'll give it a two and a half. Yeah. Hmm. Yeah, two and a half. Maybe three.
Starting point is 00:59:13 Maybe I can give it a three. Maybe I'm being too hard on it. That's because it's a piece of shit. It gets two and a half. All right. Okay, well, I guess that's it. Quick show today. As always, we want to thank you for listening
