Listeners beware.
This podcast contains major plot spoilers.
and the foulest of language.
Join us in celebrating the old and the new,
the best, and the worst in horror.
All right, everybody, welcome back to The Horror Returns.
I'm Lance, and tonight's co-host.
Brian, what's going on, Brian?
What's up, man?
if my sound quality sounds messed up, I apologize.
I am on my phone.
I got bad internet connection.
Well, you sound good from this end, brother, so so far so good, man.
So we are scheduled to have a special guest tonight, and that is horror writer Alex Grass.
He's been on before.
It was the Northman, and what was the other one called, Brian?
Was it the 13th?
13th Warrior.
Okay.
So you guys know him and love him.
He's been on before, but he's,
he is potentially running late.
We don't have him in Messenger.
That's the problem.
I can't just message him.
So if he doesn't make it tonight,
we'll be on another.
And I just finished reading most of his newest books.
I'll have some questions tonight or otherwise.
But in the meantime, you got Lance, you got Brian.
You got cool of the week.
What's yours, Brian?
a lot of TV this week
because didn't get a chance to watch any new movies
because I rewatch the Insidious franchise
just to get caught up for the new one
I kind of wish I had
so still watching Lanterns and Ted Lassow
another great episode for each show this week
but my cool the week
I'm 20 years late for this
my daughter wanted to watch it
so we started
supernatural
Jesus Christ
Brian you're you're gonna get what
24 episodes a season or more like 30
22
22 episodes a season 10 seasons?
15
Are you fucking with me 15 seasons?
Yeah
And I got to say so far, we, we burned through, we're halfway through season two already.
Okay.
And we are enjoying it.
Really?
Yeah, there's an overall story to it, but basically each episode is like a monster of the week or demon of the week because follows two brothers that are demon hunters.
Okay.
And they're looking for their father, which is played by Negan.
Oh, wow.
An early appearance of Negan, huh?
Because this was way before his Walking Dead Stint, right?
Yeah, this was 2005 when the show came out.
So that wasn't too long after that movie we all watched that Lonnie Langston made us watch the Chick-Flick-Fick week.
P.S. I love you?
Yeah, it was around that time.
Okay.
So a very young Negan.
Yeah, I'm enjoying it.
My daughter's enjoying it.
We, there are some cheesy moments in it.
We, we have a good time making fun of them.
Okay.
But, yeah, good time.
So not bad.
So you do recommend Supernatural then?
We're halfway through season two so far.
Yeah, I recommend it.
Yeah.
Well, you guys are burning through it then, right?
Yeah.
I would imagine that with 15 seasons, you still get along.
Long way to go, man.
Yeah.
But the episodes seem to go by super fast.
Well, what are they like 40 minutes or something, adjusted for commercials, basically?
40, 45 minutes.
Okay.
And we like to play a game where a lot of people show up as extras or cameos.
And we like to name the actor or the movie that we know them from, like obscure movies.
Oh. Oh, so there's a lot of people that show up in it then that sounds like.
Yeah. A lot of guest stars. And so is it like you were saying it's Monster the Week, but you said there is like a running, is it, is there like a family history or they're cursed or?
Yeah, so far we haven't got to any of the answers, but like the demon hunting is like a family business.
Right. Got it.
And the mother was, the mother was killed.
Mm-hmm.
And Negan.
His name in the show is John Winchester, but we call him Negan.
Okay.
Of course we do.
He basically raised his boys and trained them to be demon hunters.
Okay.
And they're flash for 22 years and they're older.
And one of the sons, one of the sons didn't want to do the family business.
and he wanted to go to college and have a normal life, but he kind of gets sucked back into the business.
Understandable, yeah.
And Negan has, he's been tracking the demon that killed his wife.
Wow.
It's like an overall story.
Oh, man, they got a, they have a very rabid fan base, because I know that every time they did, they showed up at like Comic Con or something, they'd have, kind of like Twilight was.
there for a little bit, right?
We're like, you can't even get in the room, basically.
They have people like camping out,
like literally sleeping in front of the hall the night before
to get to see the cute guys from Supernatural.
Oh, yeah, I'm familiar with the fan base.
That's why I said, me and my daughter,
this is my youngest daughter watching it with me,
but me personally, I'm 20 years late on this one.
but better late than ever
better late than never
yeah that's one I never caught either
I just it was too daunting
once it started getting like five or six seasons
I was like okay
too much
but if you have the time
I really do feel like the
the episodes go by super fast
and the story is not too convoluted
or complicated to follow
let me ask you this
if you
commit to watch in the first season
will you have a feeling
whether you're going to like it or not by the end of the first season.
Okay.
Absolutely.
So it's not when you have to wait two or three seasons to start getting into the meaty part then.
Yeah, because we were originally going to watch a season,
and then we were going to start to walking dead back up and kind of alternate.
But we're kind of on the mindset that we're just going to burn through the series.
I'll tell you what, man, my hat goes off to you.
Because, like I said, the fan base is insane.
and said there has to be something to it.
And there's a lot of good cameos.
There's a lot of good cameos in there.
So far we have Catherine Isabel.
A lot of people know her from American Mary and Ginger Snaps.
Quite a while back then.
Yeah.
And one of the most recent episodes,
damn, forgot her name.
Linda Blair.
Ah, the Exorcist herself, huh?
Yeah, and there was a funny little joke where at the end of the episode,
So when they were leaving her, they were kind of like, man, she looks familiar.
Okay.
Oh, man.
All right.
That's pretty cool.
I wouldn't be too surprised.
The more you watch it, you'll have like a lot of horror icons start showing up.
What do you think?
Yeah.
And they pull from a lot of folklore.
Like one episode was kind of based on the Roanoke situation.
Interesting.
All right.
So it's somewhat historically based, right?
I mean, there's like some real events that they kind of tap into and expand on it, sounds like.
Yeah, they kind of flip some of the folklore and some of the urban legends and stuff like that.
It's pretty cool so far.
Yeah, it sounds fun.
One day, dude, one day maybe I'll get into it, you know.
And I think, honestly, I think this is something AJ,
get into.
If that's the case, maybe we'll start.
We're actually almost, well, I'll talk
about something we just finished tonight,
but we, I think we only have like
one or two more shows that we watch
together.
Because we both watch,
well, now it's called the Vampire LaSot,
right? But the third season of interview
of the vampire, we've got that up next.
They're changing the name for the next
season. What is it going to be
next season? The Queen of the
damned, I think. Oh, man. I hope
they give it a good
hope they do better than they did with that movie
I'll say that but
but yeah this storyline
I'm kind of excited to start this third season
this was my favorite storyline in
the books
easily my favorite of the books so
we'll see how it goes
my daughter was asking me
about it how is
is there a lot of sexy time in it
there is in the book
that's for sure
not in the show
Well, so I've seen the first two seasons, right?
Which basically gives you the story of the first book,
interview of the vampire.
And I mean, it's not insane.
You know what I mean?
Like, there's a little bit, but it's not like gratuitous.
Okay, so I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't remember there being like a whole lot of nudity.
There was just more insinuation, I guess,
than anything else, if that makes sense.
Yeah, because she wanted to watch the show, and we've been trying to find more shows to watch together.
I think you guys would dig it.
Yeah, I give it a shot.
Some people were upset because they kind of change the time that it takes place,
because it's a slightly different timeline than the original interview of the vampire,
which was set like in the 80s.
And I think this one, this one's a little bit more old school,
where the main stories take place like during the 40s and 50s.
But, you know, yeah, if you can get past that, I guess, right?
I've seen half of the first season and just kind of got lost with all the other shows I was watching.
But what I've seen I enjoyed so far.
That can happen.
All right, well, is that you got anything else to talk about this week?
Or is that just the...
No, supernatural.
Supernatural.
Balls deep, huh?
But I do, I do, if anybody's not watching Lanterns or Ted Lasso, get on that.
Yep, that's, that's, lanterns is one that, that I'm definitely going to watch.
But, all right, well, while we're on the subject to TV, Brian, have you seen Spider-Nor?
I think you have, right?
Yeah, I'm halfway through that one.
I'm a little further.
I'm, I think I'm six episodes down, two more to go.
But would you agree with me that?
it's Nick Cage being very Nick Cagey.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah, you get a lot of that kind of like
that movie where he was the vampire
back in the day. Help me out, man.
Vampire kiss.
The vampire's cute.
A lot of that word,
and the weird faces and everything.
Yeah.
I'm loving it. Yeah, it's fun, man.
It's cheesy fun.
I don't know if it's going to be part of the Marvel Universe at all.
I mean, obviously, it's kind of like, I guess,
what for Batman, they'd call like an Elseworld's story, wouldn't you say?
Yeah, this is not Marvel or Disney.
This is all Sony.
It's fun, right?
I love the costume, dude, with the goggles and the fedora
and the windbreaker that he wears or whatever it is.
Yeah, it's a cool...
look for Spider-N-O-R.
Quick, I started watching it in black and white
because I thought I wanted to,
but then, like, halfway through the first episode,
I switched over,
and I really love those monochrome colors that they pick.
You know, like, you have, like, a blue wall
that's, like, literally just blue, you know?
Mm-hmm.
And then, like, the little red dot on the marked dollar bills
that, uh...
Yeah.
What's his name, Silver Main?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
he distributes his mark bills
but what were you going to say man
I forgot
okay
all right so yeah
spider nor
we did
we did we did
oh Brian sad
sad day a couple of days ago huh
and then Tim Curry the day after that right
we lost a huge icon
maybe the biggest
yeah don't you think it might have been the biggest
entertainment loss since dare I say Elvis
oh absolutely
She was just from what I've seen alone on social media, she was definitely loved by everyone.
And she loved everyone, man.
I saw an interview where 2020, I think, was trying to sneakily get her to say something, you know, disparaging about the president.
And she just said, she went off.
She said, now you are not going to catch me doing that.
I am an entertainer.
I am not a politician.
Sure, I have my opinions like everybody else does, but my opinions are to be kept to myself.
And I thought, man, how awesome is that?
How cool would it be if more entertainers did that?
Yeah.
And like I said, on social media, I've seen everybody from movie stars to wrestlers to rappers, to YouTubers, to YouTubers, to YouTubers, just everybody in between.
Well, AJ and I had to do an ode to Dolly last night, Brian.
I said that.
First of all, I scratched a ditch on a blind spot.
And I saw Nez was watching it.
He said it was his favorite Dolly movie.
So I'm like, why not?
If Nez says it's good, it's probably good.
So, yeah, we checked out Rhinestone.
What did you think about it, Brian?
I honestly couldn't say.
I haven't seen Ryanstone since I was a young child.
I was always, uh,
Nine to five guy.
Nine to five is probably the best, having seen most of the things that she's done.
But, man, it was a little dated, dude.
It was, oh, man, she was very sexualized in it, you know, with the characters.
And then you had a guy basically literally trying to rape her do most of the film.
And then, of course, you know, he's the rich guy that owns the nightclub that she sings in in New York.
So he makes a bet with her.
and if she wins, she gets to have her contract from him
and go seeing somewhere else for more money.
And if he wins, he gets to have sex with her.
A little misogynistic, man.
But, you know, I mean, as Nez would say, right,
it was a different time, boys and girls.
Different time, different plays.
I don't know.
Stallone was pretty goofy in it, too, man.
I see why people love it, but to me it has not aged well.
But that being said, after we saw that, we watched,
you know, I'm a musicals guy, Brian.
Mm-hmm.
The best little whorehouse in Texas.
Have you seen this one?
Again, I probably haven't seen it since I was a young kid.
I'm not so sure you'd be a fan, dude.
It's one of those that kind of starts with singing from the very beginning.
It doesn't really let up.
needless to say, I loved it.
Every minute of it.
Every number, every dance number, every song.
At the end, they got a couple of classic Dolly songs in
that weren't in the original Broadway play.
So you get all the music from the original stage play.
You get two Dolly songs.
You get Dom DeLois.
you know, being kind of a really, really goofy version of Marvin Zindler.
Of course, they have to change his name, but I don't know if you knew Marvin Zindler was the
consumer rights, I guess, quote unquote, quasi-consumer rights,
roving reporter, right, for the Houston television channel.
And he played a big part in getting the chicken rants, the whorehouse,
shut down in Texas because he went out there with cameras and stuff like that,
which I don't even know if you could get away with that now.
Like to go into somebody's property with cameras,
you'd probably get shot.
But yeah, so, you know, you've got that.
And then, of course, you got Bert Reynolds,
who does a lot of stuff with Dom DeLuese over the years.
Cannonball run, the end, all that good stuff.
Nes knows what I'm talking about.
A lot of cannonball run.
You like it, Brian?
Yeah.
I love it, man.
One and two.
They're both goofy fun.
But yeah, dude, I really enjoyed it.
So we enjoyed that.
But I'm rambling now.
My cool of the week, Brian, because that's what you asked me.
What was my cool of the week?
And it's a little TV show that AJ and I got through in about three nights.
And these are not short episodes, man.
It's House of the Dragon, Season 3.
No spoilers.
I still got to get caught up.
Okay.
So I'm not the only one that was late.
to the party. I definitely
wouldn't spoil anything, dude,
because just like Game of Thrones,
you do tend to get like deaths that you don't see coming.
And I wouldn't do that to you, man,
because you may have certain characters you're attached to
that may or may not make it to the end of the season.
And then here we go with what we keep talking about
in this show over and over again is that,
you know, after we finished it says,
House of the Dragon Season 4,
coming 2028.
Really?
We're going to...
This is a storyline.
All four seasons take place
over probably a 20-year span.
But like the things that are happening right now,
they've gotten so far into the storyline, Brian,
that there's going to be two more seasons.
And I don't want the characters to age too much.
You know what I mean?
Or we'll lose some of that authenticity.
Yeah, I get that.
But yeah, dude, this is what we didn't
when I was a kid.
Like basically when I was a kid, Brian, we had we had Dungeons and Dragons, right?
Like on weekends, the buddies would come over and we played D&D, which was like, you know, set out your books on the table, roll the multi-sided die and have at it, right?
We'd be up to like three, four in the morning playing.
Other than that, man, to get your fantasy fix, you had like the Ralph Bakshi cartoons and you had like the aforementioned like we talked about last week.
heavy metal, like the random movie that would come out, you know, every two years.
Or like a Ralph Bakshi animated movie, like the Lord of the Rings cartoon that he did.
But other than that, dude, there just wasn't a lot of high fantasy on TV, much less in the theaters.
Yeah, I always said they don't do fantasy like they did in the 70s and 80s.
Excalibur was a classic.
I'm trying to think when that was.
That had to been, what, about 80, 81, something like that?
Yeah.
Speaking, brought up Tim Curry earlier, rest in peace.
Legend.
Legend was...
Where he played the character, darkness.
Legend was pretty good, man.
What was the other one that David Bowie was in?
Where everybody's talking...
A labyrinth.
Yeah, Labyrinth.
Everybody refers to his codpiece.
Even more family-friendly, the Princess Bride.
Oh, yes, yes.
Absolutely.
What was that?
I kept saying indubitably or something like that?
No, inconceivable.
Yeah.
I like eventually somebody was like,
I don't think the word means what you think it does.
That's right.
I don't know, man.
We didn't get any good fantasy TV shows, though, back then, you know?
Yeah.
I can't think of any.
Unless you count Alfred Hitchcock Presents or Twilight Zone.
Not really
Yeah, not the same
No
Yeah
All right
Well, I'm enjoying House of the Dragon, man
I'm just a little disappointed
That they're waiting two years
To come out with the next season, that's all
Because they definitely set a lot of things up, man
Yeah, that's the time we live in
Mm-hmm
Okay, all right
So we got Supernatural and House of the Dragon this week, right?
Yeah
All right, Brian. What headlines do we have this week?
Sorry for the background noise, but we'll get into some news here with London set Stephen King's story, Crouch End, getting a series adaptation from crime.
I can't even tell you what that book, it's a short story, right?
I don't know nothing about it.
Crouch End, I can't even tell you what it was about.
He's, I've read every single thing he's written, but Crouch End just does not come to mind except it being a kind of odd title for a book, you know, or a story.
So, so what are the details, Brian?
Originally published in New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos, if that tells you anything.
Yeah, I don't even know if they have a director or a showrun.
or yet.
Hmm.
Okay.
So it's going to be...
It looks like it's just starting to come together.
It's going to be very lovecraftian then it sounds like.
Oh, directed by Tom Shanklin, who did 2008's The Children.
The Children.
Didn't we review that?
Yeah, I don't remember that being all that great.
I have to look it up again.
But we definitely review.
viewed it. I just don't
couldn't tell you what it was even
about, man. Well,
the Crouchin is only going to be a limited
series with six episodes,
so it's not going to be an ongoing thing.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
This was, yeah, this was the one
that took place at Christmas time, Brian,
with a family gathering.
Yeah, no, now I remember.
Okay. You could have just as easily
done that a couple of weeks ago, too,
and mix that one with
cooties or something, you know?
Ice cream man or whatever.
Everybody's favorite movie.
Killer kids.
I don't know. There's a fan out there somewhere, dude.
Yeah, his name's Nez.
I think he surprised a lot of people
with his review on that. What do you think?
Surprise me when he's, what do you say, eight out of ten?
What?
I don't think it's eight.
eight out of ten.
Was it?
Did he get in there?
Because I think my response was like, get the fuck out of here.
Yeah, no shit.
Rightfully so.
I mean, that's the proper response.
Let's see.
What else we have?
Samar Weaving the starring killer wasp movie Hive Mind.
Hold on.
Hold on.
I got to be a little bit of a NAS apologist, real quick.
Okay.
So in Nez's defense, Brian,
Do you want me to tell you what I came in out, came in hot before you guys talked to me way down?
What was it?
Huh?
You want to guess?
What was it?
You don't want to guess?
Seven.
No.
But I was going to give it a four.
And you guys talked me down to, was it a one or a two?
I think a two, right?
I think there was twos all the way around.
Okay.
All right.
Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt.
So you're talking about Samara weaving, right?
Samar Weaving
to star in Killer Wasp movie
called Hive Mind.
I like it.
Is she going to be the wasp?
Kind of like the fly,
that Kronenberg fly a little bit?
That would be cool if that's the direction
of the movie was gone.
I think it might be, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
This has been kind of a mixed reaction here,
but Ridley Scott says
he's long-delayed Alien Covenant sequel is back in the works.
but why
why would we have to have a sequel
specifically for Covenant
does that story really
you know need to be expanded
you think
because he still wants
to have control
over the franchise
I can understand that
yeah
I just build off of what they
just build off of what they did
with Alien Romulus
mm-hmm
I agree
and of course
they're already in production
with Season 2 of Alien Earth.
Yeah.
Well, that was a good show.
AJ enjoyed that one, too.
Resident Evil rated R for Strong Buddy Violence and Gore.
As it should be.
Obsession just became the highest grossing original movie of the decade of the last 10 years.
Are you serious?
A little upstart movie, and it's become.
literally the highest grossing
of the entire decade, huh?
Yeah.
And also Blumhouse just
crossed $1 billion for the year
after putting obsession out,
back rooms,
the mummy and
what we're going to talk about tonight,
Insidious,
the new Insidious movie.
Okay.
All those together crossed a billion dollars
for them.
for the year.
Yeah, I believe that.
I really enjoyed the mummy.
I just don't think it was a mummy movie.
I thought it was more an evil,
Evil Dead movie.
Well, the guy put a lot of connections
in there unofficially
to the franchise.
Yeah, I heard about
a lot of that.
And then, I don't know,
it did kind of,
seemed like the new,
the new Evil Dead movie,
Evil Dead Burn, even tied all that together
even more.
you know we'll see they've uh they've definitely got some world building going on that's for sure
yeah just making sure i'm not missing anything which oh christopher landin director of
happy death day and freaky is doing a book at earth movie adaptation of the book
uh the final girl support group i've heard of that
So that's a book, right?
Yeah, I have the audio book.
I haven't started it.
Okay.
It's basically, from what I understand, it's a support group for girls.
They've been basically final girls.
Okay.
From different situations.
And then the support group is, they meet in secret,
and a killer finds out where the support group is and comes after.
them.
Kind of a neat idea.
I like it.
Original.
You're going to put it on the schedule?
Oh, absolutely.
Okay.
Hopefully you have the book done by then.
Brian, I was going to ask you,
there's a movie out this week.
Is it called Buddy or something like that?
Yeah, I was going to put it on the schedule,
but it's
kind of a limited release.
I know we've all had different trouble finding.
But I'm hearing great things about Buddy.
Really?
Yeah, we've gotten in trouble for that before, Brian,
like where some of us literally couldn't get to the movie.
So we ended up having it on the, as the pig,
but like maybe one or two people saw it.
So I like your thinking on that.
So you're saying it's getting good reviews.
I might go check it out there.
Yes, from what I understand out of the movies of that kind of genre, the mascot horror.
Right.
The kids show horror.
They're saying it's the best one so far.
Yeah, I don't know how many there are.
I can't think of any off the top of my head.
I mean, there's obviously, there was that black mirror, not black mirror, I'm sorry.
creepy pasta, right?
Is that what it was called?
Yeah.
The pirate ship thing or something that all the kids would watch when they were young.
And then there was that I saw the TV glow.
What else?
I'm trying to think, man.
Mr. What's his name?
That was a pretty decent movie a couple of years ago.
The dude that was kind of like the...
Oh, Mr. Crockett.
Mr. Crockett.
Yeah, he was kind of like the Mr. Rogers type.
Speaking of Black Mirror, I forgot to mention that.
There's an episode of The Simpsons that just came out called Yellow Mirror.
I heard about that.
Is it good?
It's okay.
I've not really been on the Simpsons thing.
Brian, I probably haven't watched The Simpsons in 20 years.
Yeah.
It was fine.
It was fine.
I thought they were going to go a little bit.
Darker.
Well, you would think they would, right?
They're not as edgy as they used to be, are they?
No, they're not.
Was the mirror yellow because Bart peeped on it or what?
No.
Oh, boy.
Okay.
Yeah, I might check it.
Yellow mirror.
What does that even mean?
And I'll finish off with two non-horror news items.
Ryan Hurst, who plays Opie and Sons Anarchy, was in the God of War series on Prime.
Okay.
He got injured and couldn't finish filming the series, so they have replaced him with Dave Batista.
I'd say that's an upgrade.
Yeah.
Wonder how they pull that one off.
You said Prime, huh?
Yeah.
I guess Bezos just backed up the truck, huh?
Yeah, and he backed up the truck even more because Prime is also doing a Robocop series.
With Peter Weller?
With Dan Stevens.
That's going to be nuts, man.
Is he going to have a piccolo?
He might.
He'll have a piccolo holster just like he holds his gun.
All right.
I'm game.
That sounds cool.
That's a good pick for Robocop, I think.
Yeah.
I assume he is going to be Robocop, right?
Yeah, he's
Murphy.
They're doing basically it's a reboot of the movie
into a series, and he's playing Murphy.
Oh, man.
Are they going to have the old guy on the TV
saying I'll buy that for a dollar, you think, in vignettes?
They have to.
They have to.
They gotta do that, yeah.
And who do you think they should have
play the old man, Peter Weller, right?
Yeah.
No, Peter Weller should be,
what was the bad guy, Dick Jones?
Yes, absolutely.
That would be poetic, man.
That would be beautiful.
And I'm looking around,
that seems to be all of the news.
Okay, all right.
That means it's time for us
to take our little trip down to the trailer park.
Brian is going to bring us the big, the small,
and sometimes the very, very weird.
What's our first new trailer tonight, Brian?
Our first new trailer and only trailer for tonight
is a new movie from IFC films
and also coming soon to shutter and it is breeder.
An eccentric poodle breeder lures,
a broke college student to her remote ranch
with a promise of research funding,
but he soon learns there's a catch.
Is there?
This is Britain and directed by Alex Goyette,
the stars Daniel Donahey,
Dot Marie Jones, and Maddie Phillips.
What did you think of Breeder?
Dude, I fucking loved it.
I can't wait to see this movie.
When is this coming out?
this is coming out
damn it iron dv
yeah when he
when he meets the lady and she says
come in here for a hug
I'm like okay
this is a little sinister
this is not going to go the way he thinks
it's going to go
and then she talks about being a dog breeder
and uh
you know saying that she's gotten best in show
she knows exactly which stud
to pick for the litter right
yeah
as soon as she's
She said all that. I knew where this was going. Brian, when I was a kid, I had a recurring dream.
I don't even know if I should say this on the podcast, but God damn it, I'm going to say it, because it's true.
I had a recurring dream, Brian, where I would go into this, like, portal. And, like, sometimes it would be, you know, like, on a city street and I'd walk through a doorway and I'd go into this other place.
Or, like, I'd be in my room or something, and a portal would appear in the floor and I'd jump through it.
Brian, I ended up at the land of only women where I was the only guy.
Okay?
And, yeah, I was definitely chosen to be a breeder.
Now, I quit having that dream when I, after I hit puberty.
And oh, how disappointing life is compared to what it could have been.
But, yeah, this hit me in the fields, dude.
when she was putting him in that room and locking him in there
and you can see the silhouette of the chick in the background coming toward him.
This comes out October 16.
October 16th, that is not too far away,
and that can be part of our 31 days if you don't pick it.
And what did you think of this trailer, Brian?
Oh, I'm into it.
The main, I guess the villain of the most.
O.V. Dot Marie Jones
or as the
dog breeder
that's going to be human
now, she
looks like she's going to like
kill this role.
She really does. You know, she reminds
me of his large marge
from the
deepies big adventure.
What else
has she been in?
I think she's going to kill it.
I'm with you, man.
Let's see what else she done.
Dot Marie Jones.
She does look familiar.
Yeah, she looks a little bit familiar.
But it's almost kind of in that.
She reminds me of somebody else way, right?
So I was thinking a large marge and...
I don't know.
He is known for Glee.
Okay.
That makes sense.
The movie Boondock Saints.
Hmm.
That's kind of a classic, man.
That's got a big cult following.
there's something else I've seen
Darrell from the Walking Dead is in that right
The Moondock Saints
Yeah
Darrell
I dressed up as him for Halloween one year
Went and got a bow and arrow set from Academy and everything
Do you have the vest?
I did
Nice
Absolutely
All right
So it sounds like we're both all in for Breeder
Absolutely
Yeah.
Yeah, this looks like a lot of fun.
It is
going to be in theaters October 16th.
And I'm assuming
sometime before the year's over on Shutter.
Yeah, I absolutely laughed out loud
three or four times on this.
All right, that's it for the trailer.
All right. So now it's time for
feedback, I believe, right?
Yep.
all right well we always
of course we always start out with our podcast
spotlight
this is one of the ways the horror returns
kind of like to give back to the horror
community a little bit here and
you know spotlight somebody else
that's doing a podcast that we
think you might be interested in
so don't get mad at us if you don't like it but god damn
it podcasts are generally free
and you can download them and listen and you know
if you don't like one switch over to something else so
we do recommend these though because these are people that are doing podcasting in our genre that we love so much which is horror
all right podcast spotlight this week this week the podcast spotlight shines on house of ghouls
a weekly show about horror movies featuring news reviews and interviews didn't we use that one time bride
hold on i'm calling foul here sounds familiar
Yeah, I'm pretty sure we coined that phrase, guys, but that's okay. That's all right. We're not mad at you. It's very clever. I kind of like it, and it covers three things. So it's a fun behind the scenes look at making horror content mixed with casual fun. So let's see. House of Goals. Let's give it a shot. I think I already downloaded one episode. And I'm going to give it a listen and also downloaded an episode of Katie Afraidy, Brian.
because I had to.
With a name like that, right?
Yeah.
So now we get into our, oh, by the way, our two contest winners from last week,
we had not one winner of our T-shirt contest for feedback, but two.
And they have both reached out to me,
and they're working on their,
working on providing us their style and size choices.
So they can have that in plenty of time for Halloween.
So, Pat, thank you again.
Jay, thank you again.
And you guys are what keep us going.
So thanks a lot.
And now we've got, let's see, I've lost my place here.
Philip usually does this.
Forgive me.
Okay, well, we'll just go right into the listener feedback.
And these are comments.
They're our Facebook page.
One thing I want to do, Brian, is maybe get a little better.
Do you tend to see comments out of curiosity?
Do you tend to see comments on our?
our Instagram page.
Yes, I do, and I will start
sending you. I will screenshot them
and send them to you. Okay, either
that, or I've got to find a way to get
in there and check them, because
I think a lot more people are using
Insta these days than Facebook, right?
Yeah, and
if I see anybody's message
or comments, I try to get
to them. I haven't
been posting a lot lately
and just
been kind of personally, if it's
And it wasn't for the show and keeping up with my brothers here, I wouldn't be on social media.
Yeah, there you go.
So it kind of gives you a reason to dive into the funk, I guess.
Yeah, but I do try to keep up with everybody, though.
I'll get to you sooner or later.
All right.
Very good, Brian.
And X, by understanding, is Elon still has us kicked off, right?
he hasn't let us come back into the sandbox yet?
I recently logged into X and yes, we are still.
Still banned.
Boy, you got to say something really offensive to be banned by a man with the scruples of Elon Musk, am I right?
I have no idea what happened.
I don't know.
Just one day they said, we violated rules and I'm like.
Well.
What are you talking about?
Maybe he mistook us for government workers?
I guess.
And it was an efficiency thing, who knows?
But okay, well, moving on, we won't get our feelings hurt too badly.
All right, regarding fall, Amy Swain says,
made me feel dizzy first time.
She is not alone, is she, Brian?
No, I think that's what the movie was trying to do.
Yeah, I think that's kind of a consensus, right?
I know I was listening to Nez review it for the first time,
and he was talking about getting almost nauseous, I think.
He was so dizzy from it, you know?
Yeah.
I didn't personally, I didn't get that feeling because I didn't see it in the theater.
Right.
From what I understand, if you watch Fall or if you're watching the upcoming sequel to it,
the theater is the way to go because it really makes you have that feeling.
Yeah, I think this next one I want to try to,
to catch in the theater if possible.
So we'll see how it goes.
Yeah, I think that one comes out in a couple weeks.
You know what?
And I'll bet you that they, I'll bet they do even bigger.
What do you think?
Because they know what expectations are from everybody.
Have you seen the trailer?
I don't know if I have.
Have we watched it on the show?
If so, I watched it and forgot it.
I don't think so.
As a matter of fact, don't watch it.
Go into it blind.
All right.
I will do that.
will definitely do that. Okay.
Now, here's a guy, here's somebody I agree with.
Regarding Don't Breathe 2, Brian,
Eric W. Roberts says they really should have stopped
after the first movie.
Trying to turn the blind guy into an anti-hero
was a huge mistake.
Did they not see the end of the first movie?
I can't agree with this guy more.
What the fuck were they thinking?
It was like the Megan, the Mithrigan thing, man.
Yeah, because this guy,
I don't care if he didn't force himself on a woman.
He still raped a woman.
Literally.
Oh, Jesus Christ.
And then you find out in not just the first movie, the second movie,
you find out that the kid he has, he kidnapped.
I don't get it.
You notice there hasn't been a Don't Breathe 3.
Yeah, well, Don't Breathe 2 wasn't even made by the same director as the first one.
Oh, man.
It's a cash grab, huh?
Yeah, I think it was the guy that
I know Fete Alvarez did the first one.
Okay.
I think the guy that helps him write scripts
directed the second one.
I guess, man.
Once is enough on that one.
It's not going to be on my October watch list every year.
Is it yours?
No.
I mean,
if they were going to do a second one,
kind of alluded to the end of the first one, how she had that look when she saw the new story that he was still alive.
Right.
That he was going to come after her.
Yeah, that would have been a better, better trajectory, I think.
Yeah, instead of fucking making him a damn hero.
Yeah, saving people.
All right.
Getting cats out of trees, all that stuff, right?
Yeah.
All right, regarding the mummy soundtrack,
Dave Duncan says, oh, shame on you, Dave.
He says, that Kurt Cobang.
I see what you did there.
Moving on.
All right, regarding the Beyond, here we go.
Travis Bruce bears us says,
having seen this movie, I cannot believe they let them shut down the causeway to film it.
Did they?
I guess they did.
That's a little pre-review trivia for us.
Yeah, or at least a section of the movie.
Causeway.
All right.
Regarding the new Nicholas Cage movie, Dave Duncan says, stop, please.
Oh, now, come on, Dave.
You're not a Nick Cage fan?
Come on.
I think the one he's talking about Nick Cage is going up against cannibals.
Why would that be so bad?
I don't know.
All right.
I don't think Dave's a Nick Cage fan.
I guess not.
Dave, write to us and let us know, man.
What's your favorite Nicholas Cage movie, Dave Duncan?
All right.
Regarding Freddie versus Jason, Pat Caruso says,
2003 seems like forever ago.
I like this movie a bunch.
The intro narration from Freddie Kruger is so good.
I think this is kind of a fan favorite movie in retrospect, man.
Mm-hmm, definitely.
And isn't this the one where they were all having the keg party outdoors
and then they had like the corn fields that he was going through
and some of the fields were burning and stuff?
Yeah, same movie.
Okay. It's a fun movie, man. I like it.
All right, so that's the feedback. If you want to help out the show, please consider becoming a Patreon patron.
And now, it's time to visit some supernatural realms.
Ooh, scatty, boys and guz. Very scary.
Count Floyd, you know.
You remember Count Floyd from SCTV?
Yeah.
who was the actor
Joe Flaherty
Joe Flaherty
Every time I see him
I always think a
Happy Gilmore
That's a good one
Yeah that's definitely
Jackass
Jackass
That's a classic dude
Yeah they
If you ever seen Rush in concert
A lot of the time
They'll have Count Floyd
Before one of the songs
like they had a song called The Weapon.
It was like part of a trilogy.
And it was kind of about nuclear arms and stuff like that.
These were all like kind of in the 80s.
So everything was sort of of of its time.
They had the weapon.
They had, well, I don't know if it was so much nuclear arms.
They used that a lot in the imagery of it and stuff.
But I think a lot of it was kind of like the way humans treat other humans and manipulation and stuff.
And then let's see.
They also had a song about witch burning, basically, and book burning and stuff like that.
That was all about, you know, taking away freedom of speech.
So, but anyway, I digress.
At the beginning of the weapon, Count Floyd came on and he said, oh, boys and girls,
we're going to listen to a very scatty song.
It's called the weapon.
Everybody in the audience just cracked up, man.
Okay.
So where were we, Brian, before I went off on that particular tangent?
We are getting into the beyond.
The Beyond.
Okay.
The Beyond from 1981.
A young woman inherits an old hotel in Louisiana.
We're following a series of supernatural accidents with air quotes.
She learns that the building was built over one of the entrances to hell.

Releasing
Who restored this film in
1998
is a film editor
And used a shot from this film
in the Spider-Bite Dream Sequence in Spider-Man?
2002 with Toby McGuire?
Did you know this, Brian?
I did not know this, but now I need to go back and watch it.
Is that the scene like right before he tries to go fight like the wrestler or something?
I was before that.
Okay.
Yeah, I...
Huh, okay.
Well, that's...
Now that's good trivia.
That's very interesting.
Okay, now this next one tracks for me, Brian.
Swedish rock band Europe.
And I am going to maybe give away my feelings for this movie a little bit with this.
Is that okay with you?
Yeah, I figured the setting kind of grabbed you.
Well, it did.
And I'm usually a sucker for New Orleans, no matter what.
But I, but let, all right.
So here's the thing.
Swedish rock band Europe based the song,
Seven Doors Hotel from their 1983 self-titled debut album on this film.
The lyrics provide a narrative retelling of the movie plot.
While the track was a significant hit in Japan,
it remains a staple of the band's live performances.
So, my experience with a band, Europe, Brian, do you know who they are?
Do you know any of their songs?
Say the one with the one song,
The Final Count.
Okay, yeah, I know though.
Okay, I've seen some bad concerts in my life.
One time, me and a couple of friends went to see Rod Stewart,
and we got so frustrated because he was only doing new music.
And apparently the entire audience was frustrated
because everybody kept yelling out names of his classic songs.
This bloke throws his microphone down on the stage
and yells at the audience,
I am only doing my new music tonight.
I'm not doing any of my old stuff.
Of course, he did a British accent, which I can't quite duplicate.
And if you guys don't like it, piss off, right?
And then he goes into his next song.
And I guess the audience was pissed off.
And he threw his microphone down on the ground again,
stormed off like a diva.
And that was probably a 25-minute set, dude.
So I've seen some bad concerts.
Europe, dude, they just take the cake, man.
This is one of the worst.
I had a girlfriend in high school that dragged me to see this concert.
I wasn't really interested.
And, man, I was not impressed with Europe, dude.
They were, I swear they were doing lip syncing, is that what you call it,
where you're not really singing the song?
Mm-hmm.
And they had this terrible little, I don't know if you'd call it kind of like a little skit
between a couple of songs where
you can hear a phone ringing in the background
and then he says, is that, answer the phone.
Somebody walks up under the stage
with an old-fashioned telephone
and hands it to the guy and he picks the phone up
and then all of a sudden over the audience year,
this is your mother, you boys are making
way too much noise.
I'm like, really? Is this
really where we're going here? This kind of a skit?
Brian, I'm not a fan.
Are you a fan of this movie?
You want to go first?
Come on.
I don't want to show my hand yet.
I think you've got an idea.
Because I was saying it makes sense that Europe gave homage to this film, right?
And you know what I think of Europe by now, right?
I see where this is going.
I think so.
I think so.
Do you want to go first?
I don't mind.
Yeah, I'll go first.
Okay.
I am a sucker for a good witch movie.
which isn't warlocks.
I don't think we get enough of them.
Yeah, agreed.
I'm slowly getting into the Italian horror genre.
Okay.
I'm not,
that's kind of a blind spot for me,
so it's always a welcome watch
when I get to watch something for the first time,
because this was the first time watch for me.
Mm-hmm.
I like the setting.
I like the practicals,
a lot of gore and,
A lot of eye trauma.
That is true.
There was definitely a lot of eye trauma.
As you would expect in the majority of Italian horror movies I've seen.
Yeah.
They're always stabbing someone in the eye.
It seems that way, doesn't it?
And we got eye trauma.
We got acid in faces.
We got dogs attacking people.
We got spiders.
Spiders.
Spiders eating lips.
Real.
spiders. Right, right.
But with all that being said, I have no
fucking clue on what the story was.
It was kind of out there, wasn't it?
Yeah.
I don't know. The city inherits a
hotel.
Yeah, she inherited the hotel,
from whom I'm not sure.
I really don't know what the story was.
Okay, well, let's round robin this one
a little bit, man, because it's just you and me
tonight, looks like.
All right.
So my first, my initial thoughts of this film, Brian,
to me, this movie felt like the fever dream of a 10-year-old boy.
So basically, you've got creepy, crawly spiders.
You've got, I thought, pretty, pretty bad graphics, man.
And then, like bodies melting down, like you said, with acid,
which I think was just kind of like, that was either,
I think that's an old Hollywood trick where they burn a camera, or I mean, sorry, where they burn a candle, but they like do it at super high speed.
Or they may use like, like lie or something like that, you know, what you throw on bodies to get them to decompose quicker.
It could have been that.
Yeah.
But it felt to me like a 10-year-old boy got a chemistry set for Christmas and said, I want to make a movie.
and that's kind of what you get.
And then you got spiders that are like eating people's lips.
You've got, like you say, no story at all that I was able to follow.
I mean, you know, even that final scene, which was kind of supposed to be sort of haunting
because they were obviously trapped in hell or whatever,
and it was that painting that was in the background the whole time.
Who was the blind lady?
I don't not even know.
I don't even know if she even fit into it except just to have a semi-
my hot-looking young lady, I guess, I don't know.
Because she seemed to be...
And then the little girl got the eyes?
Oh, the little ginger girl.
Yeah, what's up with that?
But what were you saying about the blind girl?
I'm sorry, man.
She seemed to be there as an antagonist.
It seemed that way at first, right?
And then later in the movie, she's getting attacked by the zombies.
And she has her dog, her dog, Dickie,
to attack the zombies and you think everything's all good
and then the dog attacks her and tears her ear off,
which I thought that was an awesome little practical right there.
It kind of was, yeah.
I'll give it that.
I'll give it that.
That was kind of like, yeah,
I heard that scene was kind of interesting,
but no, where she fit in and what her motives were,
I have no idea.
Yeah, I did, I just,
the story was super hard to follow everybody that,
seemed to be involved with the main girl
that inherited the hotel
seemed to just
every time they were looking into something
they would just get killed off by something
yeah life was definitely cheap in this movie
you know the poor guy that
got up on the ladder to find the old book
and then lightning flashed and he fell off the ladder
and was consumed by the spiders
yeah and then you brought up the redheaded girl
right right she's
seem to get possessed by what I don't know and for why I don't know either.
Okay, so why did they seem like they were so intimate early on with this Frank the
plumber guy?
Because it's like he just shows up to fix a water leak that for whatever reason he can't get
to, right?
Because it keeps like breaking down the wall of what the, you know, it's like trickling through
and then it's burst gushing through.
and then it's bursting through the wall.
And, you know, and then he pops up later in a bathtub that the maid or whatever is just like pulling a hair out of?
Yeah, I have no idea.
How did you get there?
I'm trying to read it on Wikipedia and this is not the movie I watched.
I don't know why there's so many fans for this.
I honestly don't.
Don and Ellie, if you're listening, please explain to me what you see in the shit, dude.
I mean, this was garbage.
There was not a redeeming quality to this movie, in my opinion.
Like I said, it felt like a child made this thing.
And, you know, I mean, this guy's got a reputation.
Zombie is considered like one of the, isn't that the one where the zombie fights the shark underwater?
Yeah.
You know, I mean, and I hate it, man, because I am such a fan of New Orleans.
I love everything, New Orleans, man, except this.
I finally found something said in New Orleans that didn't turn me on.
I could be wrong with what I'm getting here is starting to make a little sense.
The blind lady, Emily, was there to warn her not to open the hotel.
Sure.
I think it was a portal.
Right, right.
Or evil.
Okay.
So she has to open a hotel because all she sees is the financial gain of it.
Okay, so Emily, Emily was the blind lady?
Yeah, with the dog.
So I'm guessing she was a ghost then that got killed earlier and came back to Warner.
Well, she had that line in the movie.
They were trying to take her back.
Mm-hmm.
And she didn't want to go back.
So maybe she...
Back to hell.
Okay.
Back to hell.
That makes sense.
And then they...
Okay.
She came back to warn the thing, Liza was her name.
She came back to warn her, and then since she came back, she didn't want to go back.
And that was the scene where they were trying to kill her and take her back.
And then her dog turned on her and killed her.
So she could have been a ghost, or she wouldn't have had flesh for the dog to rip, right?
Yeah.
Okay, so what about that zombie scene in the hospital?
Were those like the most flaccid?
Those were slower than slow moving.
Those are basically paralyzed zombies, dude.
They could barely even move.
Where's the fear there?
You could have ran out the hospital
by the time they even got to the door to the room.
Pretty bad, huh?
Yeah.
Oh, man.
I don't know.
Do we need to go on this one any longer?
Are we ready to move on?
I will say, I will rewatch it because I am super confused on the story.
Or maybe it was just that boring that I just checked out.
I have a lot of questions.
Could be.
My fault of everybody for having an Italian horror movie on the schedule and not having Don and Ellie on here.
Yeah, I was thinking that the whole time.
We need somebody to explain this to us, like in real time, right?
Don would have took us to school
and then he would have gave his homework after.
And explain why this is a masterpiece.
Because it's got a lot of nines and tens.
If you go through IMDB, Brian,
a lot of the user reviews are 8, 9, 10.
And I was thinking, what movie did they watch, you know?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And a lot of the women in it,
they weren't really that attractive, right?
They were just kind of like on the just attractive enough type of scale.
Now who's being misogynistic?
we better move on
I'll jump in first with my score
I'll give it a four
and that's mostly for the practical effects
okay I think a four is
generous I'm going to go to
just exactly same exact score as the ice cream man
but hey
Don prove me wrong
all right so we're moving on to the
featured attraction this week
which is insidious out of the further.
Gemma, a young mother, raising her daughter in the house she grew up in,
discovers she can travel into the further,
where she possesses an ability to bring what lives there back to the real world.
Decent, decent description.
Director is Jacob Chase, also known for Come Play and The Girl in the Woods.
And both of those I found boring, Brian. Did you see those?
saw come play.
Wasn't that kind of semi-based
on a video game or something?
No, that was the one with the
kid on the tablet
and the spirit was
coming through the tablet after him
or something. Oh, God. That's horrible.
Okay. And the girl in the woods,
I just remember it being boring.
I don't think I've seen that one.
Okay.
Writers, Jacob Chase with Lee Wynnell.
Okay.
And David,
David Leslie Johnson
McGoldrick. Yes, that's all one name.
That is a name.
And this was originally titled
Insidious the Bleeding World
for some reason.
Okay.
You want to go first, Brian, or you want me to?
You can go first on this one.
Yeah, happily,
because I did enjoy the very first
insidious movie.
Like, this is the one that had that
red-faced demon at the end that looked like
Darth Mall, right?
yeah i enjoyed it um i didn't like love it but i but i had a good time with it
every other movie in this franchise after that to me has gotten has gotten um progressively
worse and i can say that with a lot of a lot of confidence like i've liked each one less
than the one prior to it because just when i thought the last key couldn't get worse we got
that terrible the red door with the uh guy that goes to college and gets
It's the female roommate.
Rocky, is that her name or something like that?
Yeah.
And officially, since I did watch the entire franchise, rewatch it,
last key was always the worst one.
Right, right.
The red door is officially the worst one after rewatching both of them.
This franchise has been an absolute train wreck since the first, right?
Anybody would agree.
So is this movie going to, for whatever reason, magically turn it around?
That's the big question weighing on our minds right now as we go into this.
So I got to the movie.
First of all, I had a very pleasant experience at the theater, Brian, because I've talked about this gang before.
I've shouted out to him before.
I'm going to eventually see if I can get anyone to listen to the podcast so they can hear me when I talk about it.
But there's a there's a goofy gang, a guy.
that comes to the theater sometimes,
our little local theater on Tuesdays.
And I always have a blast.
This all started, you'll recall,
with I know what you did last summer, the remake.
And I was telling you how much fun I had watching it,
laughing at it with the crowd,
and you were shocked when I gave my score
because you thought I probably liked it after the way I talked about it.
Make no mistake, I did not like that movie at all.
It was my least favorite film of that year.
But I love the theater experience.
the crowd was there and boy
we didn't miss a beat
man lots of good good laughs
lots of good you know kind of laughing
along with the movie jump scares
together like you know
you get like a jump scare and then the guy
next to you kind of pokes you with his shoulder
you know what I'm talking about right
and I'm like oh
that got you too you know so we had a lot of fun
with that part of it but was the movie
any good that's the question well
so when that first
scene happened and you've got the little girl and she looks at her mom and she's like crashed out
on the table and she goes and makes herself like a little chicken dinner you know gets it out of the
freezer and puts it in the microwave and then the mom comes in and you just see the fear on the
kid's face right it's like um oh my god mom's coming into my room she just didn't say anything
she clamped up and then mom was like um you know i made a dinner
You know, be sure to eat it.
And she's like very, very cautiously saying, like,
Mom, I already ate something.
So I'm thinking this lady's like an alcoholic, right?
I don't know what impression did you get from that, Brian, at that point.
I thought she was going through some supernatural things.
Oh, so you're a little more literal than I am.
But I enjoyed the trauma aspect of it.
I thought the young actress that played the young Jim did a good job,
passable job.
Um, the mom was kind of haunting, right?
With the way she looked and then, you know, banging her head into the shower door.
So we can say all this, right?
Because it's in the first 10 minutes.
Um, all right.
So you got that part.
Then you start getting into the, the modern day.
And you've got the two handprints on the, uh, mailbox.
And so like, okay, this is the next generation.
And now Jim has got a kid.
And first of all, I, I really enjoyed that.
little child actress that played her daughter. I thought she was, she was really cute, very
convincing. I liked her a lot. And you start seeing a lot of the same patterns, right? Like she's
studying hard, her mom studied math and got really good grades. You know, got, you know, job well done
stickers and all that. But once this movie got, so I'm like, I'm kind of actually enjoying this.
And I'm like, sort of angry at myself because it's an insidious movie, so I want to hate it.
But when we get to that scene, like, where she's, the scene that reminded me of backrooms a little bit, Brian, if I can say that without spoiling, the scene.
You know what I'm talking about, Nez?
No.
I do this.
You've seen it, right?
Yeah, I saw it.
Like, she's looking down, she goes underneath something because she thinks her daughter's under there and.
Oh, and the little cushion tunnel.
Symmetral.
Yeah, okay, yeah, the cushion tunnel scene.
That really creep me out, especially with that little face.
Hell yeah.
Well, no, I love the dentist office, and I was shocked that we don't have more dental trauma movies.
We've got Corbyn-Bernson and the dentist.
I know, but that's...
That wasn't as well executed in this, in my opinion.
I'm just going to leave it at that because I don't want to spoil anything,
because there are kind of some big surprises on what happens, but I don't know.
I really enjoyed this one.
I think Insidious is back on track,
with this one. What do you guys think?
Nez, what's your cool of the week, man?
The drama. The drama.
HBO Mac.
Oh! With Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
Yep, that was hella good.
That was weird, that's for sure.
I don't know if I loved it.
I didn't know if I was, what to expect.
I just thought it was going to be a romantic comedy, but,
uh, no, man, that kid can act,
Batman, but I hear he was just doing,
You're just doing one more, and that's it.
But it was a good movie.
It wasn't what I thought it was going to be,
so I really enjoyed it.
I thought it was an awesome film.
What was the first movie you guys did?
The Beyond.
The Beyond.
I was hella good.
Ten.
That was good.
That movie was awesome.
I love a Fulci.
This one.
What is happening?
This one, it was basically nightmare on the Elm Street.
That's all it was.
Very true.
Yeah.
It was good.
It was better than the last one.
Right.
But I think they just need to end this because now they're just beating a dead horse.
I'm like, come on.
It seems that way does that.
Like scream that it's over with.
Just end it.
Mm-hmm.
But I liked it.
I thought it was good.
I'm glad we really didn't go deal in with any of the people we've already seen other than all the stuff.
the further. And Lynchet, it was always good to see her. I was just waiting for her to pop up into this.
I like that line. I like that line when she said, that's what I do.
Sent it twice in the movie. It was good. It was a full theater. A lot of teenagers. Everybody was
screaming when they were supposed to. So that made it fun.
The main actor and her little daughter, I thought they were good. The three little scary
people, the older gentleman
and two older ladies, they were creepy.
Creepy as hell, huh?
That Dennisine, yeah, it's in the trailer.
I'm glad I didn't see that trailer
because I didn't know that was going to happen.
I didn't either. I didn't know anything.
I didn't watch any trailers for this.
So, I think I saw
maybe the first
trailer where they didn't show too much
because we were talking about it on East Society,
and as I was watching it on IMDB,
the trailer was showing and they were
showing way too much
when they do that
that sucks but I mean
I enjoyed it I thought it was really good
once they get into
the further and
what goes on
there with Gemma
I thought I felt for
her being traumatized as a little girl
and then growing up
and still having to deal with
what happened to her when she was little
and just trying to protect
her daughter from it all.
Well, she didn't know until it all started going
sideways. But yeah,
the tunnel, the little couch
cushion tunnel scene, that was
creepy.
They did show that in the trailer, but
that one guy that was peeking around the corner,
I was like, hell no.
But I did like
how she was trying to kick out the
kick out the cushions.
I was like, why don't you just stand up?
Right. No. I didn't work.
She tried it.
but I mean it was good for what it was I enjoyed it
will I watch it go to see again in a theater probably not
but I'll of course I'll buy it I have all the other ones so it'll
fill up a slot in the in the insidious
collection but yeah I rewatch that last one
was it the red door oh yeah we were just talking about that
it was all right I mean I like one before that the last key
that one was cool
I mean, they just couldn't top what they did in the first movie.
I agree.
The first movie was hell of good and hell of scary.
Yeah.
But this one, I mean, I liked what they were doing, but I just got all the nightmare on Elm Street vibes.
I was just waiting for Freddy to pop them there at some point.
But that the main demon or whatever his name was, I like that.
I like the explanation on who he was.
Yeah, the cult leader.
Yeah.
I thought that was cool.
I was like, all right, this is something different than what we've seen already.
I mean, not demons that were already in the further or that bride, that evil crazy-looking witch and the Darth Mall guy, which he does pop up in it.
That was already spoiled by, for those of you that collect the popcorn buckets.
I don't know who green lit that one.
It looks stupid.
I saw it.
I went to the theater to see something, and they had one.
And they wanted $40 for that thing.
I'm like, who sculpted this?
That's terrible.
It looked terrible.
That's bad.
And I opened up the head, man, you could maybe put like two, three handfuls of popcorn in there.
That's it, huh?
But, I mean, majority of that stuff, you don't buy it for the popcorn.
You just buy it for the collecting.
Sure, sure.
But I wouldn't have bought that one.
The last one and the only one I've bought is the Michael Myers.
from Halloween 2
that popcorn bucket
I got that one
because I love Halloween too
but
but overall insidious
be out of the further
I mean I liked it
I thought it was good man
and it did his purpose
it was a horror movie
it was full of jump scares
and everybody screamed
when they needed to
what made me jump was just
everybody that would scream
I had like a roll of girls
behind me little teeny tini boppers
and they were all screaming
screaming. At first I thought they were going to talk the whole time because during the trailers,
they were just jab, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. That makes me nervous, Naz.
But once the movie started, they were quiet the whole time. So, but overall, I mean,
Sidious, I thought it was cool. I enjoyed it. What did you think, Brian?
Yeah, I enjoyed it. I think they're back on track. They're back to basics.
I liked who was in it. They did their job.
I had a lot spoiled to me.
That's why I ended up rewatching the franchise.
Okay.
Because certain cameos happened in the movie.
And I just kind of wanted to get re-familiar with them.
Yeah.
It's good to see Lynn Shea back in there.
But I'm glad that she was more of a cameo and not a main focus.
Yeah, true, true.
Just kind of showed up.
to do her thing, right?
Yeah.
That's what she does.
And she does say that throughout the franchise, Lance.
I come to find that out.
Ah, okay.
See, I'd forgotten about that.
What did you guys think about the new character, the, uh, the tattoo artist?
She was fine.
I thought it was a cool way to, for Lynn Shea's, um, character.
Yeah.
What fuck was her name?
I can't think of her.
Just Lynn Shea, I guess, right?
I like that mirror scene, right?
Elise, yeah.
Elise, okay.
Yeah, I thought that was a cool way for her to communicate through her,
and then she tattoos on whatever she can to get the message out.
I thought that was a cool way.
Pretty interesting.
Yeah, I mean, I liked her character and how he did it,
because if that character wasn't in the film,
And then Lynch Shoe would have just showed up and jamma, what the fuck are you?
Yeah, it wouldn't have made any sense, right?
Yeah, she would have had to explain it.
Well, this is who I am and we don't have time for that.
And there was no wasting time in this movie.
We didn't have a bunch of scenes of her not believe in what's going on.
That's true.
Yeah, that's a good point.
And it wasn't a short movie.
I mean, it was almost two hours long.
It was?
Yeah.
It was an hour and 50 minutes, man.
Oh, damn, that flew by.
It did.
It did.
I agree.
And Brian's right.
Now, like, the action started kind of early.
They didn't have, like, a 30-minute montage of people trying to convince her it was real, you know?
Even the boyfriend, it took one situation to happen.
Oh, yeah.
And he was on board.
Well, that would have got me on board, too, seeing that next to you.
I mean, that whole dentist scene was.
I don't like going to the dentist at all
But that scene was
Was creepy
Well you want to give our
You want to give our scores
So we can spoil away
Because we're kind of tiptoing
But it's in the trailer
I mean everyone sees that part
Too much was in the trailer
Yeah
That's why I said it
When I was talking about it
And watching that trailer
I was like damn they put
Not everything
With just about everything
I mean
They put all the creepy parts
In the trailer
Darth Maltland there, huh?
I mean, I understand you got to sell the movie, but it would have hit different if we would have first seen a dentist scene in the movie or at least the pillow fort scene.
Yes.
They should have just left it at that.
That was scary enough.
They didn't need to show the dentist part in the movie because that's what made, I mean, it made me kind of go, whoa, what the fuck?
Because I didn't know that scene was coming.
Mm-hmm.
So I was like, man, then watching the trailer, I was like, God, that was like one of the, like, most exciting parts.
And you throw it in the trailer.
So, yeah.
I don't know.
Yeah, that was, that was a good one.
Like, how gross, how gross his mouth was.
And then, like, how it sounded.
I was like, oh.
All right, Lance.
Yeah, scores?
Yeah.
Where's Philip?
Philip's got family stuff going on, I think.
All right.
Yeah.
He'll be in next week, I think.
I think he would have been on by now if he was going to pop in.
But I'll give it a 7.
7 on 10.
I really enjoyed this one.
Had a good time.
I'll give it an 8.
I enjoyed it.
Okay.
Yeah, that's fair.
That's fair.
Yeah, I'm writing in between you guys, 7 and a half.
I think they are back on track.
If they ended here, I'm fine.
But if they build off of this,
I kind of think
Insidious should be
different characters
each movie
not continuing with the same thing
because they
Patrick Wilson
and his family
they kind of beat
at the death
Yeah
Just a little bit
Right
All right
So we all recommend it
All right
Spoiler time
Y'all ready
This is a
motherfucking spoiler alert
You've been fucking warned
This is a
motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
The movie I want to see
is with Spex and Tucker.
Lee Wernnell and Angus Samson.
That's the movie I want to see.
Give me a series of them.
Yeah.
Do something with them.
I mean, because I mean, I enjoyed
both of their characters.
I mean, they didn't die at any point.
Does Lynn Shea need to be in it?
No.
I mean, maybe they were doing this before they met her.
I don't know.
We never really went into a backstory of them.
So, I mean, I would really like that.
Speaking of that, Angus guy,
was he in that shark movie, Brian?
Which one?
Deepwater.
Was that him?
That was him.
I think so.
Deep water.
I remember that one, but it's been a while.
I'm looking it up.
It was him.
I just did.
Oh, okay.
Did you watch it?
No, not yet.
All right.
Well, you can, if you feel like watching it.
Oh, okay.
I got you.
Oh, this is that new, this, is this that new one, guys?
Yeah, I mean.
Angus Samson, huh?
Yeah, he was Tucker.
Oh, yeah.
the first one and
this guy's a goofball
was it the second or third one
I don't know I know they came back at one point
they are
some way in all of them
even if they just pop
in for a second then they
yeah when I see them I'm like
oh hell yeah then that's all we see of them
I think Red Door they were just like
on a YouTube video
yeah I mean
they could do something with them
if they want to
expand their universe.
I mean, because I'm sure they've seen a lot
dealing with it. They could start off
with them not really believing and then
whatever happens at the end of the movie
they finally believe and then they find Lynch
and join her.
All that. So Hollywood, if you're listening, put my name
down in the credits. They probably are.
One thing that was
spoiled for me
that I wish it wasn't
was the cameos
from all the previous demons.
Yeah, that was. I was like, really?
They were all in there.
Even, even Darth Mall.
Yeah, which he's called the lipstick face demon.
Okay.
The bright and black, the man who can't breathe in key face.
Yeah, I was like, okay.
But I was like, man, they should have just did something with them
other than just show them on the screen really quick.
Right.
But I like the premise of it, how they were all promised,
by the main demon that he'd get them into the real world.
And that's why they all gathered there,
because she was like a vessel.
She had the power to go in and out.
Didn't you find that it's hereditary?
Yeah.
I like that setup.
I really do.
I thought that was kind of clever.
I am with Nez.
It was a lot more like dream scape, I thought,
than like having to die and then come back from the dead or something.
It was just like going into a dream.
So it was very nightmare on Elmstreet dish for me.
What do you think, Naz?
What was that?
I'm sorry, my nephew's text to me.
What'd you say?
The situation, the setup that the demons were promised to, by the main one, to go to the real world.
And the mother and the daughter had the power to go in and out the further.
I thought that was cool, but, I mean, was, other than the demons we've seen before,
Was everyone else in there a demon?
Because there was a lot of people in there.
There were a lot of demons.
Yeah.
Because I like that scene when they turned on the guy because he couldn't fulfill his promise.
Oh, when she made the whole house go away into the other?
Yeah.
That was kind of cool.
That kind of felt Spielberg.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Spoilers.
Okay, yeah.
When she made the whole house disappear, I was like,
oh, hell, you remind me your poltergeist.
Yeah.
I got a Stephen Spielberg vibe to that.
Like kind of an 80s movie would do something like make a house disappear, you know?
Because going in, I wasn't expecting much.
Because I was like, well, this is the same movie.
What else are they going to show us?
And it was good by adding new characters that we didn't know nothing about.
Yeah.
So the only one you really care for when you're watching these movies is you want to see Lynn Shea pop up in there.
Of course.
I mean, they did that.
She was in all of them.
Even the spoiler.
We haven't seen the first one.
She dies in that first movie.
But it keeps coming back in some way or another flashback or spiritually.
I mean, that's what was cool about this series.
I mean, I know a lot of people didn't like the last key of the Red Door.
But, I mean, it was...
Not at all.
It was all right.
I mean, I like both of those movies.
But this one was better than the Red Door one.
the only getting good thing really about that one was that they
brought back the kid from the first film
and he was in the second one too
brought that whole family back
so I thought that was cool but this one
and then Patrick Wilson sang a song at the end
didn't he direct that one too
yeah he did
but I mean
the other I mean just the pillow
with the cushion part and the dentist part was really creepy.
I mean, I think once they got in the further,
when they were just kind of showing just the spirits and all that,
I mean, the lady with the shotgun always scared me.
I mean, all she did was look creepy.
I mean, she didn't look all deformed or anything.
Yeah, big smile.
Yeah, that was creepy enough.
But when all hell was breaking loose in, the high.
house and and then they figured out that it was hereditary and so they started going after that little girl oh that scared the hell out of me man
that was cool because when they started going to the real world through her yeah you can see slowly it was like
taking the tall on the little girl because she was looking like pale and yeah because she would i mean that's how her
her grandmother looked oh yeah i did i didn't like that at all man that made me super uncomfortable
seeing a kid in danger like that?
Yeah, I was like, oh, man.
I mean, I knew it was something scary that was bothering her.
But, I mean, that scene, because when we see the mom go into the bathroom
and she's yelling and screaming, and then the daughter goes in
and basically watches her mom kill herself,
slamming her head into the wall.
But then we ended up seeing what really happened,
that it was that cult guy
that was iris
yeah it was was messin iris
cyrus the virus right
Ryan I said that same thing
when I first watched it did you
you thought that
but I mean yeah I mean overall
I mean everything everything was good
I mean they really had to think about it
but I mean yeah I just got the whole
once they started pulling
the spirits out of the further
into the real world I was just thinking
this is like nightmare on Elm Street
That's what they've been trying to do every movie.
Well, they do that every movie to pull when they figure out,
I'd pull Freddy into the real world.
They're the dreams, yeah.
That scene, I mean, if that little girl isn't traumatized,
the character, not the actor, from all of that,
I mean, just boom, going back and forth into the further into the real world,
I was like, oh, man, that just drove her crazy
and just scared the hell out of her.
I'm surprised she didn't piss her pants.
During all that.
Maybe she did.
Did you guys think that she, the mom figured, not the mom, but the main Gemma.
Okay.
Do you feel like she figured out how to use her power super quickly?
Maybe a little bit.
They all do in these movies.
Yeah, they got to have a, they got to have a to Z, get a place to get from point A to point B, right?
Yeah.
But yeah, it was kind of quick.
See, if they were going to have a montage, they should.
should have had her a montage with Lynchet training her like a Jedi master?
I wouldn't know like that.
I mean, I mean, well, I mean, of course she was going to believe, I mean, because of all the
the craziness that was happening to her up before she met, Elise.
Yeah, she'd seen a lot of shit.
I mean, but that did make good sense that the tattoo artist.
Now, I want to see that story.
How did she find Elise?
Unless I said it.
We'll probably get that one too.
I mean, how did she know?
I mean, what was her story before of all this?
Because it seemed like that character was doing it for years.
Like, she had, like, I mean, who?
Yeah, they were already, they knew each other really well.
Yeah, how did Elise come up to her and let her know, like, hey, you're a vessel or whatever.
But I don't know if you guys heard, but they dropped a comment.
that this takes place only weeks after the red door.
I got that impression.
It was real close.
Oh, damn.
No love for whatever,
what part of the country they were in.
If this was like weeks after that last one,
I was like, damn, they like, oh, man, we almost got it,
but then, okay, let's, here's this.
If it was weeks after,
that that led up to dealing
with Gemma and her daughter.
I mean, so
when Gemma was
what, eight or nine, maybe
when it started with her mom?
Yeah.
So like what
what was going on?
Or when was, when did this cult guy have all that
going on? Well, that sounds like it
yeah, that looked like it was maybe like from the
70s or something, like based on the
quality of the video and all. I think the
Cyrus thing was going on for a year.
I think so
Because the old people were really young
Remember back then
They were the acolytes
And they were like
Yeah
In their 20s or something like that
So maybe 30s
So shit
That might have been back in like the 60s
You know
Whose shit diapers were those
That was the old people
The three old people
Oh that was theirs
Yeah just to be gross
Man they left their fucking dirty diapers
I thought it was
The older couple
I thought it was an older couple
That lived there
because they...
I don't think so.
Unless I'm...
They covered them in the little shit diapers and had them wherever.
That was terrible.
First, they killed them, and then I was just to seem they were being so disrespectful.
They invaded their house, they killed them, and then they left their shit diapers all over the attic.
But when they were in the house, they were like, fuck, what's that smell?
Oh, yeah.
That must have been stinky, huh?
Oh, man.
But yeah, man, it just...
No, hell no.
I ought to be burning somebody's house down.
Oh, they did.
All right.
Is that it?
Is that a wrap, guys?
Yeah.
Okay.
