Starting point is 00:00:10 victims. For those of you delight and dread, who fantasize about fear, who glorify gore, welcome. You have found the place where the horror returns. Listeners beware. This podcast contains major plot spoilers in the foulest of language. Join us in celebrating the old and the new, the best, and the worst in horror. That proves the horror never ends. Each episode, we review an older movie and a newer movie. Usually horror, as the name of our show implies,
Starting point is 00:01:08 but we mix in some other stuff. And this is our action week. I think the last one we had was about three months ago. goes, I think we're going to try to make this kind of a quarterly thing. So our goal is going to be this time to explore how our perceptions, I guess, of action remain the same, but how it can change over time or whatever. I mean, action is as action does, right, Brian? Yeah, pretty much.
Starting point is 00:01:33 How it can kick ass over time. Well, here's the stuff we've got to get out of the way. We are going to include spoilers for the new film, everybody. If you're a relatively new listener, we will spoil the new film. but we're always on the new one, promised to wait until the very end of the show to do so. We're going to give you a spoiler alert that's very distinctive, and you can tap out at that point and pick us up after you see the movie.
Starting point is 00:01:58 And we pretty much figure you guys have all seen the old one that we're going to talk about, so we'll spoil the hell out of that one. The other thing that we may do from time to time is use a few four-letter words. It has been known to happen. This is usually a horror podcast, or action, and horror and action movies both tend to be R-rated, so you guys can expect us to be too.
Starting point is 00:02:22 I'm Lance, and with me as always are my co-host, Brian and Philip. And this is the night we've been waiting for, because joining us tonight is our friend Alfonso Salazar from the Bad Boys podcast. I assume it's a network, right? I guess you could say that, yeah, sure. Look, man, it's been a long time coming to get you on the show. I know we've talked about it for a while. What have you guys been up to over there, man? Oh, just the same old thing, you know.
Starting point is 00:02:52 We just, our main tagline is we randomly rant on all things movies. We just, we choose two different movies every week. We call it the homework. It's the brand new one that no one's seen. We kind of go over that. And then the extra credit is something we've already seen in the past, and we just kind of revisit it, see if it holds up. Or just to watch a classic.
Starting point is 00:03:10 And then we kind of, sometimes we talk about news. Sometimes we go in the box office. at the very end we go over our weekends because one of our co-hosts, mom loves to listen to the episode and she feels that's the only way she can find out about what he's doing because he doesn't call her. So she'll listen to the podcast. You never call your mother.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Exactly. He's like, just listen to the podcast. You don't know what we did. That's pretty much our template, yeah. Thanks for having us. Hey, man, thanks for joining us, dude. What have you got, what have you guys covered? Give us an example, man.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Like the last three or four weeks, what have you guys gotten into? Let's see. For last week, we reviewed Gifted. It was a new, it's a movie with Chris Evans. Sure. And yeah, it was just, I think, I don't even think, was it in the theater? It just kind of popped up there. I think it was direct to, well, Brian would be the guy to know that, probably.
Starting point is 00:04:03 He's usually our expert on that. Yeah, the first I've ever heard of it is when it just came, recently just came out on a DVD and Blu-ray. So that was the first I ever heard of it. Yeah. And, yeah, he's in it. I take a Spencer. He's playing, like, we don't, it kind of don't really know the story about him, but it's like him taking care of this little girl who's, like, who's gifted.
Starting point is 00:04:25 She's really smart. And then the mother, you find out she's dead. And then her mom is trying to take care of her to get, like, a court drama in there as well. But it was a really good film. It's really good. And then the extra credit was Land of the Dead because, you know, unfortunately, George Romero passing away. so we figured we wanted to watch one of his movies.
Starting point is 00:04:45 So that was on the last week's episode. And then before that, we watched the new Fate of the Furious and Bronx Tale. So that was a cool little double feature there. That was an interesting one there. I love Bronx Tale. I don't know if you guys, if you guys ever seen it, do you guys feel about that. Yeah, I just rewatched it this week after this major show. Oh, nice.
Starting point is 00:05:04 It holds up, right? Definitely. Especially for De Niro directing it and Chad's writing it. I think it's a, and that kid, too, looks just like Bobby D. I mean, come on, like, perfect casting for it, right, that kid? Yeah. Collogino. Yeah, collogio, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:19 See? Yeah. And that was on, that was a couple weeks back. And then before that, we watched Colossom. Did you guys ever see that movie out? Yeah. Yeah. I think we've all seen it.
Starting point is 00:05:28 I think Brian led the charge on that one. It was a good film. It was just not what I expected. Same here. Right. I think like I felt, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:38 I think we wanted more monster stuff, I guess, and then didn't really know. what was going to come out to me, but yeah. And then, uh, Philip, that's why it wasn't such a wide release. Yeah. What, what did you think about the, the twist,
Starting point is 00:05:50 Philip? Um, I mean, I, I kind of liked it. I just, I wish they had maybe, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:05:59 if they were going to make it about, if they were going to make it like real medical, metaphorical, which I think is what they were trying to do. Mm-hmm. I wish they maybe would have made it slightly more obvious. or done something at the end to wrap it up. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:15 Yeah, it wasn't what I was expecting. Hey, I'm looking up the movie gifted that you guys talked about. It definitely was in limited release because I recognized the movie poster. I think my wife actually went to go see this at one of the indie theaters here in Houston. And it's like directed by Mark Webb, right? That's right, yeah. Mr. Spider-Man himself, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:39 I think he did, he did 500 days of summer, which I really liked. Oh, he did that. That was his start then, huh? Wasn't it? I believe that was him, right? I better check now before I just made a mistake there. No, that movie has quite a, quite a cult following, man. I've never seen it, but, uh...
Starting point is 00:06:57 Oh, really? A lot of people love it, man. Yeah. Yeah, I really like it. Yeah, the soundtrack's great, too, and, uh... Yeah, it's, yeah, it's really, it's a different take on the, on the rom-com, I would say, for sure. All right, yeah, 500 days of summer. And now I think I know why my wife went to see the movie gifted.
Starting point is 00:07:15 She watches a TV show that I think he does a lot of writing for called Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Oh, okay. So I think that's what got her interested. So she'd probably love 500 days of summer. We got to put that on the list, man. Oh, for sure, yeah. All right. Well, the other thing we do, Alfonso, if you aren't too familiar, I don't know how familiar you are with our format.
Starting point is 00:07:38 But we start out with cool of the week, man. So what's the coolest thing you've seen this week? I went to this party called the Fandem Fest. And there was a bunch, I think it was hosted by MTV. And they had a cast from Lego and Njago movie. And then in between them, there was going to be two bands playing. And one was Echo Smith. And I didn't know who they were.
Starting point is 00:08:01 And so I asked my cousin's wife, I'm like, hey, you know them? Do you have any good songs? And she's like, yeah, they got two, a couple good songs. I'm like, oh, okay. right so they're playing a bunch of songs and then i hear the beat and i'm like wait i'm like i'm like i look over i'm like hey i know this song she's like you do them oh yeah this is the cool of the week she's like what i'm like i mean i go there's it they go the horror returns they use this and their segment cool the week i'm like so i have to make this my cool the week
Starting point is 00:08:23 there's just no way around it so and i think i saw someone post that on their uh on your guys's facebook page and i'm like hey that's my cool the week so i just couldn't help it awesome yeah it is a cool song yeah it was yeah it's a very catch song and i've I had heard it before that, but then when I started listening to guys podcast, I noticed you guys played it. But then when I started hearing that song, I'm like, this is perfect. This is definitely going to be my cool of the week. Man, awesome, man. That works out great.
Starting point is 00:08:49 What about you, Philip? I went and saw Dunkirk. Oh. Yeah, it was kind of awesome. I don't know if it was quite as good as all the hype is leading it up to be, but, I mean, definitely worth watching. You know, not quite saving Private Ryan's hair. but it was a hell of a war movie. How was the, um, did it not being R-rated, hurt it at all?
Starting point is 00:09:15 I don't know. I mean, it was, it was super tense the whole time. It wasn't near as graphic as it probably could have been. Right. Uh, but I, it didn't, I don't think it took away from the movie at all. Um, it was just, there was a whole lot of really intense scenes. Like, people almost died a lot. It's just a weird narrative, right? Like, you just get, right? Like, you just get, pop right into the story and then you just go and follow it. You're like, okay, that's how it's going to be. And then you don't really get to know any of the characters. You all look the same, which I think is moved by Nolan.
Starting point is 00:09:48 So I think that's why I kind of was thrown off by it. Yeah, it's more about the event instead of the character development. Although, I mean, there's a little bit. You follow stories from, you know, a few separate little groups of people. But, yeah, it's more about the event as a whole and just the, tenseness of the and the stress of the situation, you know? Yeah, Hans Zimmer's score definitely
Starting point is 00:10:11 gets you in the mood and in the scenes of the dog, I saw it in the 40X theater. Have you guys ever experienced 40X before? Never. No, I don't even know what that is. So 40X is like, it's a whole immersive experience where the seats move and like lights flash while you're in the theater.
Starting point is 00:10:29 So like the dog fights felt like real dog fights where like the seats are moving to the left, moving to the right. That probably would have been cool. So that's what made a little bit better for me. I like the movie more than experience the actual movie. But yeah, the dogfights were awesome. Like seats moving to the left, moving to the right, when explosions sit and hit the water.
Starting point is 00:10:48 You get sprayed with water from the seat in front of you. Lights flicker up and down on the screen. Smoke comes out. One of the really cool things is when the thing was Tom Hardy was flying his plane, and he opens up his window in his plane. He kind of pulls it back. The air got a lot colder in the theater. And then when he closed it up again,
Starting point is 00:11:06 it like went away it was really neat like you get a full out yeah even the scenes in the boat the seats are rocking up and down so two people like 30 minutes in they left they couldn't handle it everybody else seemed to be having a good time because these two kids and like in the seats in front of me were like holding like a joint like they were dogfight
Starting point is 00:11:22 they were in the plane moving left and right having a good time so it was very it was my very first time in 40X and it was kind of fun actually so you guys your theaters guys they have those and you guys are it sounds like a Disney World ride you know Yeah, it totally reminded me of funny.
Starting point is 00:11:38 I shrunk that one from Disneyland. You guys ever did that? Oh, yeah. That's kind of a reminding. It's just that people think it's very gimmicky, but I think it works special for that movie, you know? There's also these two air compressors in the back of your seat. So when there was, like, shooting going on,
Starting point is 00:11:53 my left and right jumped out of their seats. I swear to God they must have shit their pants because my friend leaped out of the seat, and I was laughing so hard. It was kind of taking me out of the movie, and couldn't help looking over it. And my brother, buddy, to my left was like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:12:04 I could never fall asleep in this, in a movie in 40X because it's just there's no way. I mean, it's a really cool experience. I definitely recommend if you guys, you know, I'm wondering if they, it was pretty new in our theater. So it's 20 blocks, too, so it's a little place here, but it's kind of neat. It's like a ride. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:12:22 I'd totally do that. It really was. Especially like it said, land, air, and see Dunkercad at all. So it kind of worked out. Sounds like that. That would be a good way to see it. I'd like to check out a Fast and Furious movie in that, in that 4DX, man. Yeah, that'd be kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:12:38 What'd you check out this week, Brian? You know what? I just realized after last week's episode, nobody brought up Game of Thrones. Oh, yeah. It was just... We've got a lot of shit going on. Alphonsea, you watch Game of Thrones? I am.
Starting point is 00:12:54 I'm caught up on Game of Thrones, yeah. And this season is, like, it's super exciting and what's going to happen and what's leading to every episode. I'm just glued to the set. It's awesome. Yeah, I was way more excited about the second one. Yeah, I think we're all caught up, man. Yeah, all I got to say is fucking Theon.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Fucking Theon. Jesus Christ. I'm like, come on, you can, there he goes. Fuck. You still all messed up. Yeah, that's pretty much for my cool little week. But I am a little confused. I thought the episodes were supposed to be longer this season.
Starting point is 00:13:27 I think the last two are supposed to be like an hour and a half each. Oh, okay. I understand, but the rest of them are still going to be like an hour. Because it is a shorter season this season, right? It's only eight episodes. Yeah, yeah, that sounds about right. Eight or seven, something like that. And then I think next year is going to be the same.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Yeah, they're doing a great job of getting everybody together. That's for sure. Yeah, it's just a buildup from each episode. Yeah, it doesn't seem like a lot of fluff, right? It's just every scene is important. Yeah. You know, and that's getting to the shit now, you know? And that battle seems like a lot of stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:03 the ships. Oh, that was amazing. Yeah. Yeah. That was pretty much my cooler week. I just realized it was my cool of week. It would have been, but I guess nobody even thought about it last week. I think for my own part, I'm kind of starting to take Game of Thrones for granted at this point, you know? It's like, of course it's fucking cool. We know it, you know, every single episode is like a movie, but my cool of the week is something that I didn't think I was going to like it all. But like the first episode about halfway through sucked me in. And every time I think it's going to start kind of going downhill and getting stupid,
Starting point is 00:14:37 it kind of surprises me again by bringing out another like old grindhouse movie trope. And that's, of course, Blood Drive on sci-fi. You guys watched that? I haven't watched it since the first episode. I see the poster looks cool, but I don't know. I don't even know what's about. Yeah, yeah, the poster looks cool, man. It does look like a 70s exploitation movie poster.
Starting point is 00:14:58 it's pretty cool Alfonso basically every episode is like a different 70s or late 60s early 70s exploitation movie so you have you know we had one episode dealing with cannibalism we had one episode dealing with like you know the women that had taken over and they're kind of like Amazonian and they were forcing all the guys they were putting them on milking machines and basically just forcing them to give up all their sperm so they could they could have more daughters.
Starting point is 00:15:29 It just fucked up weird stuff. Oh, cool. And the main story. Each episode's probably different, huh? Each episode's like a different, like, mini-movie. One of them was, like, took place in an insane asylum. And then you find out, you find out all the inmates have literally taken over the asylum. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:15:48 About 15 minutes in. So it's a pretty damn good show. I mean, if you like any of those really shitty old 70s, like, cannibal women in the avocado jungle of death and all those shitty old fucking 70s movies in early late 60s all of 70s
Starting point is 00:16:07 early 80s it's touched on pretty much all of it and I love the main storyline because it's basically a cross-country road you know road race kind of like gumball rally or something like that okay so is there a tie-in to all of them is there one like cohesive yeah
Starting point is 00:16:22 yeah it's a tie-in it's not an anthology it's the basic storyline, which is the race, and you've got all these different teams that are trying to win it. Whoever comes in last place, every race, they have these implants, and their brain explodes. So they're out. They're literally
Starting point is 00:16:39 out. Once they come in last place on one leg of the race, which takes place over the course of the season, they're literally out. That's awesome. Yeah, it's a fun. It's a fun show. And yeah, like I said, every episode is kind of like
Starting point is 00:16:55 a different movie, and they, I I kind of like the way they have fake advertisements and everything on there that tie in with what they're showing. And it's just a fun ride, man. You guys should check it out, definitely. Was it the last episode where you mentioned where they dropped the F-bomb on it and you were all freaked out? You know what? The most recent episode, yeah, we did talk about it on our last episode, but the most recent episode of Blood Drive, dude, if they didn't drop the F-bomb a dozen times, they didn't drop it once, man.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I mean, it's like watching a fucking balls out R-rated movie. That's crazy, right? It's on sci-fi. It's on sci-fi, man. I don't know how they're getting away with it. And cock-sucker and, you know, shit and pussy. I mean, dude, yeah, you name it. They say it.
Starting point is 00:17:42 It's crazy. Yeah, I think you mentioned in the last episode. When did this happen where it's okay to do this? Because I remember even watching things on FX and going, whoa, they're really pushing the bar. I know it's on K-Wits on at 10 p.m., but, like, some kids still still. stay up that late and can watch this stuff.
Starting point is 00:17:56 So what is going on? Dude, I don't know how they're getting getting away with it, but I'll tell you one reason alone to watch the show guys, if nothing else. It's an actress. Her name is Christina Ochoa. Anybody ever heard of her? Oh, heard of her. I can't think of what she looks like.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Oh, man. She's the one sucking that lollipop in that poster? She's the one sucking the lollipop, man. Oh, boy. Yeah. She is easy. on the eyes for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Man, I'll tell you what, I've got I've got one hall pass and one hall pass only, but I may have to change it over to her. She's that. Who is that? Who is that? Oh, dude, you know it Salma Hayek?
Starting point is 00:18:42 You've known. Oh, okay, that's fair. But yeah, dude. Another question, what the fuck is an avocado jungle when I'm stuck on that? He's still worried where that is. Oh, man. Have you guys, have you guys ever seen, what's that talk show he does on HBO now, Alfonso? You know who I'm talking about. Bill Mar? Bill Mar. Brian, you know what it's called? It's like a political talk show sort of where he gets guest on there.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Yeah, I don't know what it is. I know what you're talking about. Real time with Bill Mar or something like that's interesting. Yes. Yes, real time with Bill Mar. Anyway, he's kind of like the only dude that's in that movie. and it's like I think he's like a pilot or something and I got to go back and revisit it because he's a lot of fun to watch but he like discovers a jungle of Amazonian women
Starting point is 00:19:34 Oh this is a real movie You didn't make this up Dude it's a real movie man Oh my gosh okay Yeah I think it's called cannibal women In the avocado jungle of death Avocado Jungle of Death See I don't know
Starting point is 00:19:47 Avocat switch the title But it makes it way better Yeah 1989 Yeah it was Later than I thought, man. In fact, I think it has a retro look to it because I think it's supposed to look like it was more 70s. But yeah, check it out.
Starting point is 00:20:02 If you guys ever, you know, just have nothing else to do, it's a good, it's a good fun movie to watch. I think we have to watch it. I know you can squeeze it in. Yeah, I'm going to try to watch it before next episode. I know, just the title alone, right? I was like, man, he just came up with that tile on the top of his head. That's pretty amazing. They're like, no, it's a real freaking movie.
Starting point is 00:20:21 Yeah. It's amazing. I can't take credit for that. I think it's somebody named J.F. Lawton. Yeah, he wrote and directed. And I think he's written a shitload of good movies or pretty popular movies, so you never know, man. Yeah, he wrote Pretty Woman under siege.
Starting point is 00:20:37 No, he wrote Pretty Woman. Are you serious? Known for Pretty Woman Under Siege. I'm telling you, I'm on his hand of you right now. That's what it says. Oh, wow. Fucking s's a gall, man. He's all over the spectrum, see?
Starting point is 00:20:52 Yeah, I could picture him right and under siege, but Pretty Woman, the Pretty Woman? Not the Julia Roberts. Yeah, it's written by It's got him on his own as I'm going to be credit. Wow. And that's right after he did Cattle the Women.
Starting point is 00:21:05 That's his next credit, man. Wow. It's not pretty woman. It's Pretty Woman and the banana hammock of death. They had to short for that title. Right. Yeah. That's crazy, dude.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Yeah. He was speaking of Pretty Woman while he's making that movie. If I'd have thought about it for another second, I would have come up with a gerbil joke. It's out there somewhere, man. Well, I don't know, guys. I think we got a lot to talk about on this episode
Starting point is 00:21:36 besides the movie since we got our in-house San Diego Comic-Con guy here. So we normally, of course, as you people that listen regularly know, we normally cover at this point, after Cool of the Week, We'll talk about a little bit of news and some trailers,
Starting point is 00:21:53 but I think, Brian, you've got something different in mind this week, right? I think we're just going to get right into it. We're going to start with a trailer. A jigsaw dropped. What did you guys feel about this trailer? I'm excited about it, man. I think it looks a little more like a throwback to, like, the first couple. Right.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Like, where the cops are after him and all that, and that seems to be the main. Like, it's almost a really gory, crazy crime dream. drama. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that was the feeling I got kind of old-school, Alphonse. What did you think? Kind of a throwback, right? Yeah, and I like the tagline, too.
Starting point is 00:22:30 It's like he's taking back Halloween. Because, you know, every year we were getting a new movie, a new song movie every October. So the fact that's coming on October 27 is awesome. And, yeah, I just seen the public come out here in Tobin Bell's voice, seeing all the crazy contraptions. I'm like, yeah, you know what? It's been a while. I'm excited for a new song movie.
Starting point is 00:22:50 so I was all aboard. Yeah, it looked pretty good. I'm not a soft fan. Oh, really? Yeah, but this one looks good. Hmm. I like the first one. Yeah, I like the couple of them, for sure.
Starting point is 00:23:05 I think after like five or six or something, I don't know. Right. When I get confused, I don't know, you know. It's like, I remember, like, in the third or four, they killed off Tolman Bell's character pretty early on. You know, they're still making sequo, So that was kind of odd. And then, like, in this one, he's still alive?
Starting point is 00:23:22 Like, you know, we don't, like, it's kind of, like, you know, no one's ever really dead movies, right? Yeah. Yeah, of course, of course. Let's see. Annabel creation screened early at the Comic-Con, and a lot of people said it's a lot better and scarier than they expected it to be. Oh, I think it will be.
Starting point is 00:23:45 That one looks good. I like it. Got a release date on that one. on August 11th. Alphonse, are you interested in Annabelle, the sequel? I have the first movie. I haven't seen it yet. Sometimes that happens.
Starting point is 00:23:59 I just buy Blu-rays when they're on sale. And I get the chance to watch them. You know what? I bought the first one. It still has the plastic on it. I've never opened it. I'm so good to do the same thing. Yeah, it's like, ooh, it's on sale.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Yeah. I'm a big fan of digital copies, so whenever I can get a bluewreck for five bucks, and they'll get the Blu-ray DVD-Didger copy. I'm all about it. So even if I don't like the movie, never even seen the movie, I'll get it. And I'm actually gushing over this one.
Starting point is 00:24:27 And my buddy had a ticket for the screening, but it was on Wednesday. And I said, I was working on Wednesday, so I didn't go to go or he didn't get to go and see it. But yeah, same thing I was on Twitter. And people were saying that it was really scary and it was really good. So I was kind of excited. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Yeah. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks. Okay. We got another trailer. I added this one in because it just recently dropped. and I figured we had to talk about it was the third It's not really the third trailer I guess they're labeling as the first official trailer for It
Starting point is 00:24:56 Right Oh yeah yeah yeah Go ahead More awesomeness It looks super creepy It gave me chills more than once Yeah you got more Pennywise in this one You actually got to hear him speak in this one
Starting point is 00:25:13 And I liked the direction they was going Because they originally said they wanted him to be more, they wanted pennywise to be more childlike and he kind of sounded like a child the way he was speaking. He was, I just realized he was in one of the movies we saw this week. I kind of realized that after the fact, but I'm sorry, go ahead. I'm going way off the rails. Yeah, I thought it was, it gave us a little bit more than the teasers before, but, you know, just enough.
Starting point is 00:25:48 I'm really interested in this movie. Yeah, this one's art rated too, right? I mean, the other one was made for TV, so I think they're really going for the really hard art. And, you know, they're people's fear of clowns. They got that one scene where there's just the hallway full of the clowns. Oh, yeah. And I don't you guys caught the Easter egg of the original Pennywives in that scene?
Starting point is 00:26:08 Yeah, I saw them. Yeah, that was kind of, that was. Yeah. That was kind of neat. Yeah, this looks very creepy, very scary. And like you said, it would have his voice. which was kind of cool. I didn't think we'd be able to hear it until the movie came out.
Starting point is 00:26:23 But no, I'm on the board. This movie looks awesome. I'm more excited about... Yeah, I'm more excited about this one than anything else right now. Hmm. You're more than the emoji movie? Almost. Okay, just checking.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Oh, man. The avocado jungle, I really got to watch that. Yeah, that's the one. The director for Ed, Andy, Mochetti has just been confirmed to do the sequel. So they're really excited about this one.
Starting point is 00:26:58 So they're moving forward. Because I guess the sequel wasn't really got to go ahead. But now it's confirmed to happen. All right. Yeah. Also, the director is taking over a couple
Starting point is 00:27:16 of things. I guess a lot of people are really high on his, the job he did with It, because he's taken over for, uh, the pilot episode for Lock and Key. Right. Which is going to be a,
Starting point is 00:27:27 a Hulu, uh, TV show. Originally, it was, the pilot was going to be directed by, uh, Dr.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Strange director, Scott Derrickson, but he is now, uh, taking over. And he is also taking over for James one, who was going to do the Robotech, uh,
Starting point is 00:27:43 live action movie. Yeah, so, he hasn't even come out yet. He's already getting gigs. Good for him. So, I'm really excited about Robotech. That's probably, I don't watch a lot of anime, but that was one series I did watch when I was younger.
Starting point is 00:27:58 So I'm really interested to see a live action movie for sure. Let's see. Another trailer dropped. This one from Guillermo del Toro, the shape of water. What did you guys think? Dude, I don't know that one. I missed that one, dude. Yeah, I missed that one too.
Starting point is 00:28:18 You made us watch. Yeah, that's not on the list. Yeah, that's not on the list. I just went back and looked at the list. I got to put it on the list. Okay. Damn, dude. What was it about?
Starting point is 00:28:29 What did you think? Okay. The main creature and it kind of looks like, you guys are familiar with Hellboy. Yeah. Sure. The creature that is kind of like his partner, Abe Sabian,
Starting point is 00:28:42 the fish guy kind of. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, very reminiscent of that. It's a mute lady. She's like a cleaning lady. She cleans up to this facility. And she comes across this creature that's in a tank. And basically, they form kind of a relationship.
Starting point is 00:28:58 And you got, I can't think of the actor's name. He was in, he played General Zod in. No, Michael Shannon. He's in it. He looks like he's going to be the main antagonist in the movie. And it's Guillermo del Toro. you know, it's a lot of good practical effects
Starting point is 00:29:19 with the creatures and it's a very interesting story. A lot of people are saying maybe this is kind of like his kind of his way of doing a hellboy sequel without hellboy, you know? Because the character is very reminiscent of Abe Sabian
Starting point is 00:29:35 from a hellboy and it got my attention definitely. Oh, you know what? Yes, I did. I saw that in the theater and that one looked, uh, it looked Super interesting. Very good. The Aramol del Toro-ish.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Yes. Yeah, it's very gorgeous looking, and it kind of reminds me of the creature from the Black Lagoon. That's the kind of vibe I was getting from it. There you go. Yeah, and she's able to communicate with them, but just like do kind of like sign language, and you can still they form in some kind of relationship, but Michael Shannon's play is like this scientist that just wants to, like, operate on them and kind of do experiments on them.
Starting point is 00:30:06 Right. She's got some weird water stuff, too. Like, I feel like she's maybe some sort of descendant of this thing or something. Yeah, because there is a scene in the trailer where there's, like, rain up against a window, and she kind of puts her hand against it, and the water on the outside kind of moves as she's moving her hand. Yeah. Yeah, it's a gorgeous-looking trailer, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Yeah, so that got the release date, December 8th. Cool, I'm down. All right. I'm sorry, I missed that one, man. Definitely check it out. next week the Dark Tower drops and it has been confirmed
Starting point is 00:30:47 that Idris Alba will be in the TV series that will follow after the movie Oh, already? They've already announced that? Yes, and it's said... You would think they wouldn't see how the movie does first. Yeah, so he doesn't die movie?
Starting point is 00:31:03 And it's said to be... Well, I don't know, it might be a prequel series. I don't know because it said there's going to be a lot of origin and there's going to be a lot of origin story to the gunslinger. That'd be cool, man, like a gunslinger TV show? Seriously. I mean, I'm not like super familiar with it, but it looks cool.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Yeah, I know nothing about the book, so that's how I'm going into this movie. And to me, the best part of the trailers have been Idris Alba. Yeah, definitely. Yeah, I've read all the books, man, and I don't see how they could, I mean, if they're going to, if they're going to be the least bit faithful to what happens in the books, they're going to have Well, you know this movie's a continuation of the books. Oh. I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:31:47 I don't think so, man. Even, I don't know, dude. From what I saw in the trailer, it looks to me more like most of what happened in the first book. But we'll see. I mean, if that's what they announced, then. Maybe those have seen. That would kind of make sense. Has anybody on here read all the books?
Starting point is 00:32:07 No, no spoilers, but I'm just. just going to say the way that the final book ends, I could see how this could be a continuation, actually. And if you, uh, if you guys read the books or even just read the last chapter of the last book, you'll understand exactly what I mean. It will make perfect sense. Let me go read the last chapter of the last. All right. All right. All right. The third, uh, Cloverfield movie has been pushed from October 27th to February, um, October 27 to February very second. And still no real news on the plot
Starting point is 00:32:41 or anything, so I don't know. The God particle or whatever? Yeah, which that title might be changed from what I've read to. Because I'll make it as the last one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Tank Lowerfield Avenue or something. Yeah. Just different street. Same crap. Oh, boy. Pacific Rim Uprising teaser drop. did you guys catch this one? This didn't really have me pumped up for the movie.
Starting point is 00:33:14 No. Well, I wish they had it showed them like fighting or something. Or you show a different kaiju, yeah. Yeah. Even the CG on the robots, it kind of didn't look this great, right? Yeah, I don't know. I was a little down on this when they, Guillermo dropped out of it. or from what I was what I'm reading he might have been pushed out of it
Starting point is 00:33:40 oh I'm not yeah a lot of a lot of stuff I've been reading he was really really trying to do this hellboy three movie and he might have been pushed out of that too oh some people just want to watch the world burn he did he asked for like like 200 million to make hellboy three right so that's like the biggest problem nobody would give him the money yeah give him to him and let him wake up a goddamn movie let's see what happens
Starting point is 00:34:09 uh Pacific Rim Uprising you know I don't know um it's got John Boagga Scott Eastwood you know it's got some recognizable faces in it but I know they've been filming for a minute so I don't understand why we got a teaser not an actual trailer yeah I didn't notice too in the trailer like they changed having two cool pilots for right to drive a Yeager like it was just him in the suit in the trailer and he kind of closes his fist and the Jaeger
Starting point is 00:34:36 he closes his he does the same thing so it didn't seem like he was two pilots this time I mean I'll reserve my judgment but this teaser didn't really get me pumped up like I said yeah it was just a teaser though there wasn't much to it yeah
Starting point is 00:34:53 Blumhouse dropped some news here let's see first Selma actor I'm gonna butcher this name David Ololo Olo-o and
Starting point is 00:35:06 You only love once. Alfred Molina and Brian Tyree Henry and Storm Reed will star an upcoming Blumhouse thriller Only You. What else I got? They got another horror movie coming out
Starting point is 00:35:26 based on the game Truth of Dare. It's going to be starring Aurora Perino. and the Ouija director, Jeff Wadlow's going to direct that one. But the biggest announcement Blumhouse made was they are backing Todd McFarland Spawn remake. Gross.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Not a fan of Spahn. Well, no, I love Spawn. I'm a huge fan of that. I like the comic books. The movie fucking sucked. Well, that's funny he said that because I was at a panel for this YouTube channel called Screen Junkies, and they have a segment called Does It Hold Up? And they had Tom McFarlane and Michael Jai White there.
Starting point is 00:36:05 And they were showing them scenes and seen if it held up. So they'd show some scenes where, like, you know, it's the CG doesn't hold up. But I think Michael Jai White has spawned was great. I just think it was a PG-13. So that was it. And I think that was a big problem. Yeah, for sure. I think John Lee was almost great.
Starting point is 00:36:23 He's always, I think he's just always, he's just always that great. Like, when you see him in the cast, he's just, I love him. It's kind of great, right? He just always, he's always great. I love him in every movie he's ever been in. Seriously, he's just kind of like, it's always like the MVP. He just kind of always stands out. I think he's great.
Starting point is 00:36:36 And then, so the time McFrona was saying he's taking the helms. He wants to direct it, and he wants to make it a rated R movie. I like it. Yeah, after rewatching it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:45 Mike Me better. Michael, she kind of just overacts, and there's just some things that just don't work. Like the dog, just freaking dog in the movie is kind of annoying. Yeah. But I think the spawns of hell stuff is this,
Starting point is 00:36:56 he just doesn't hold up. But, so I'm kind of curious. I wish if Michael's, Mike would come back, I hope that would be great. I love me some black dynamite and that Michael Jai White is fun. I think just kind of redo it with the special effects.
Starting point is 00:37:09 And having Tom McFarlane, the creator, I don't know how he was going to do as a director, but it's just at home. And I think it would be a lot better. I do remember me the soundtrack was fun too. Well, do you think... I'm ready for a new one. I mean, the only way to go is that from here.
Starting point is 00:37:22 Do you think Michael Jai White being there with him is any indication that he might return as a character or... That's what I'm hoping for. That's what I'm hoping for, yeah. They seem to have to release it, yeah. I think you can do a good spawn. And they will be making this off of $10 million budget. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Wow. That's what's kind of odd, right? Yeah. Yeah. Be creative, then. Probably a trailer that dropped that I wasn't really anticipating the movie until I seen this trailer. Ready Player 1.
Starting point is 00:37:55 Oh, wow. Man, that was an awesome trailer. Yeah. Yeah. I read the book. I read the book and pretty much everything they showed in the trailer and it was exactly what I was visualizing when I was reading the book. Well, I heard there was a little problem with the way the main character,
Starting point is 00:38:13 Ty Sheridan, his look, because I guess he's supposed to be a little overweight and have acne and all kinds of stuff. Oh, really? The main characters like that? The nerd? In the book. Yeah, what a shocker. I don't have a...
Starting point is 00:38:30 have a problem with it. Okay. I know I've... Go ahead. I'm sorry. I was going to say I could have cosplayed as that guy from the book,
Starting point is 00:38:39 but they can't pull off the movie. Look, no, dang it. But there was a lot of stuff to see in this trailer. A lot of stuff in the background, in the,
Starting point is 00:38:49 what are they called, the oasis? Right. I don't know if you guys caught like Freddie Kruger and the, what else? There was the Iron Giant,
Starting point is 00:38:58 the Dolorian. Yeah. And then the bird, The birds from, what was that game? Not Tempest, that old school video game. Joust, yeah, did you see that? Yeah, the ostrichist? Yeah, the ostriches, yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:11 Yeah, I thought that was right, yeah. It's like your whole childhood just being just throwing out your face. Like, here you go, remember all this? Yeah, I remember going back and watching it, and I saw, I noticed the 18 van. Yeah, I noticed the, I noticed. Oh, you can see that. The 18B was in there? Do the 18 vans there, and right next to it is Christine, the Plymouth Fury.
Starting point is 00:39:29 Oh, you guys, you're shitting me, dude. I got to rewatch it. I've seen it a couple of times, but I didn't get it to either of those, man. Yeah, you get. Look out for those. The Interceptor from Mad Max,
Starting point is 00:39:39 like I said, the Dolorian, the Kira motorcycle, I mean, it's just, oh, it's awesome. Wow. And that's all left in the trailer. There's going to be a bunch
Starting point is 00:39:47 of Easter eggs. Exactly. Yeah, I believe the monster truck was big foot. Yeah, that's right. What's that monster that's driving it?
Starting point is 00:39:57 That's the only one I don't know, I recognize. Yeah. I'm still trying. I keep watching it. I keep finding more stuff. Oh, is that who he is? That's his portrayal.
Starting point is 00:40:06 I assume it is. No, that makes sense. Yeah. That's his avatar or whatever. Yeah. Okay, that makes sense. That's the way I saw it. But the thing I liked is when they had all the,
Starting point is 00:40:16 did you guys notice when they played the Rush song and they had all the guys that were synchronized perfectly and driving together all as one unit? Yeah. Those are the fucking corporate types, the guys that work for the big corporate. corporate dude. And he's trying to win the contest, and he has unlimited funds available. And basically, the rules are such that whoever you are, you can join the, you know, the contest and try to get the
Starting point is 00:40:39 keys and win the prize. But this one dude, he's like a multi-billionaire. So, of course, he hires all these people to go out and do all the grut work for him. And that's who those guys are. And then our main dude, he's just kind of like a, like you guys said, a geek, a hacker, you know? He's like a nobody that's just really fucking good at 80s trivia and video games. and then he meets up with another character that I don't know if they really showed her in the trailer so much, but they kind of get sort of like an online romance going. So there's a lot going on in it, but a lot of the scenes that I saw really took me back to the book.
Starting point is 00:41:14 I think it's going to be a pretty good rendition. I don't have necessarily a problem with the main guy. I definitely like the way they had the town set up with all the mobile homes piled on top of each other, because that's exactly how he described it. The stacks. The stacks. It's Spielberg, man. I mean, how bad can it be?
Starting point is 00:41:35 I mean, that's the thing. He needed something like this, right? He's been doing those historic dramas. I mean, it's even a cinematic game changer in the trailer. I think he needed to come back to something like this, and this is just perfect. This is in his wheelhouse. I mean, his thumbprint was in all the 80s stuff, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:41:50 So, like, I think it's perfect. And I'm guessing here, Ben Mendelsohn is playing that big corporate guy because he's always a greasy bad guy. Oh, he's got to be. Right. He's got to be. He's got to be. That dude's always greasy in every movie.
Starting point is 00:42:03 I'm like, dude, what is this guy? I love the guy. He's great. It's just, yeah. I'm guessing he has to be him, man. That's got to be him. Absolutely. Okay.
Starting point is 00:42:14 We got a release date of March 30th next year. Can't wait. Next up, HBO's Westworld Season 2 trailer dropped, which surprised a lot of people because they're still filming the series. Yeah. And there's not even a release date on the season yet. So, um,
Starting point is 00:42:34 Philip, I think you were probably out of all of us, uh, really big on the season. So, what did you think? I loved, loved, loved the first season of rest world.
Starting point is 00:42:44 And I, you know, I didn't really get much out of this trailer, uh, to be honest with you. Like, it's, it doesn't,
Starting point is 00:42:51 it's not going to stop me from watching it because I love the first season so much. But, uh, I don't know, man. It didn't really do it for me. I got the impression that what? The Androids have now taken over running Westworld?
Starting point is 00:43:04 Is that the impression you guys got? Yeah, I guess so. But you never know who's an android and what's not, you know? Like, I mean, there's a dead tiger. Where the fuck did that come from? Fucking. Zoo world. Over here.
Starting point is 00:43:20 Yeah, not a whole lot. You know, a lot of dead people. Yeah, dead people everywhere. I was distracted by able reaching wood on the horse with the gun and she's just moving up and down in slow-mo. So I got distracted. That was kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:43:37 And shocking. Let's see. Stranger Things, season 2 official trailer. This one blew me away. Loved all the references. In the beginning, you get Dragonslayer video game. Remember that game.
Starting point is 00:43:53 Yeah, buddy. I used to watch my cousin play that all the time. You got thriller playing in the background. Yeah, it's just... Great music. Amazing. Vincent Price talking, yeah, I was like, oh, this is amazing. They're going to do the whole song?
Starting point is 00:44:07 It's a merry read the whole thing. They throw it on the trailer? I'm like, this is, okay, this is amazing right here. This is awesome. And then at the end, they started playing that, you know, Stranger Things title sequence. And I was like, oh, yeah. I'll watch this right now.
Starting point is 00:44:21 Yeah. I think we're all in agreement. This is anticipated for all of us. October 27th. Nice. Netflix also released another trailer, this time for a movie, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, Bright. Nah.
Starting point is 00:44:41 No, you guys talking about it. Oh, that's been feeling, huh? Yeah, no. Maybe he'll redeem myself after Suicide Squad, but that David Ayer directed it, right? Yeah. Yeah. lost a lot of ground with me with suicide squad boys.
Starting point is 00:44:57 You feel like that's his fault, though? Like, there's a lot of penalty in that. He's came out recently. It was a lot of studio involvement that he had no control over, which that's probably the reason he's not doing Suicide Squad, too. That's probably the reason every fucking person that they've ever got to direct the DVC movie has just dropped the fuck out. Except Patty Jenkins, right?
Starting point is 00:45:21 Yeah, except Patty Jenkins. Yeah. She's a one exception. I'm, I'm into this because I was, I was just talking to my kids actually talking about, when I was a kid, they used to do fantasy movies bright.
Starting point is 00:45:37 And we've been rewatching like Willow and, legend and all those movies. And I'm super into this. And it's in a modern day setting, you know, humans have to mix with all these different, you know, orcs and fairies and all kinds.
Starting point is 00:45:55 You know, I'm, I'm interested in, and especially, it's going to be on Netflix, so can't go wrong. Right. I mean, you can't watch it. Yeah. Why would you not? It looks a little cheesy, but I'll totally watch it. I think it'll be okay.
Starting point is 00:46:12 I get an alien nation vibe from that old TV show, too. Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's like a top, and you had that alien with him, and it's like, Joe Ogerton's his, like, partner. And I like Big Will, so I think. It's, uh, yeah, David Dayer, he did training day, right? I'm wrong. Correct.
Starting point is 00:46:27 Yeah, he used to be a good direction. No. Yeah, he did, um, Perry and, and. That's, he did end of watch. That's right. Yeah, Antoine Fouca did training day. But it has that vibe. He's got that street vibe down where it's like, I think there's a guy from training day was in it.
Starting point is 00:46:44 Mm-hmm. In that trailer, um, the guy wants he wants to give him Dodger tickets. Oh, I think it's an end of watch. See, I'm getting confused. He had him in this movie. That's it. Yeah. That's what I was getting.
Starting point is 00:46:53 confused. But yeah, yeah, the watch is great. It was real gritty, real, like, felt like filming Los Angeles, like, in night. Everybody, the whole crew was probably scared to film there because it just looked real. But it has that vibe. And like you said, you mix that fantasy.
Starting point is 00:47:08 And I think we don't have it. It just seems so, like, new and original and fresh to me. I think that's what excites me about it. Yeah, it's different. Okay. Got a release date, December 22nd. Cool. I mean, I'll definitely watch its own Netflix, right?
Starting point is 00:47:23 Right. Okay, we got a new Walking Dead season 8 trailer. I don't know. I'm still stuck on the last season, and I'm like seven episodes behind. So I didn't see the trailer because everything we scrolled over from there. I think my wife was a big huge fan of Glenn, and once he did the does, she was kind of really upset, and she wasn't really in a hurry to watch it. So we just kept pulling them on, pulling on, and we kept forgetting to watch them.
Starting point is 00:47:50 And we kind of needed to really, like, feel the need to go back. I mean, I did ask her if she wants to go back and watch and she said, yeah, but we're in no hurry. Like, it just doesn't seem, you know what it is? Like, we just don't seem to be like, oh, we really need to watch before the new season. I think eventually we had to, but I just kind of was falling off of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:07 We also got a trailer for the second half of Fear of the Walking Dead season three, which I did not watch because I'm still at the beginning of season two. Way behind, huh? Yeah. Which we were going to, we were going to binge. Me and my wife were going to binge watch it, but we ended up watching season four, Silicon Valley. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:48:27 Yeah. That's a good show, man. Dude, I've never, I've never seen it. Well, I totally want to watch that show. I've never seen it, but I totally love. Lance, you said you watched T.J. Miller's a comedy special. Yeah, the stand-up. That was my cool of the week. Yeah, he's one of my favorite parts of the show.
Starting point is 00:48:46 Yeah. I'm too bad he's gone now. Yeah, that's, I don't know how the show is going to work without him. Seriously. Oh, one of those... Spoiler in science. No, that's cool. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:48:58 I mean, it's not really a show you have to hang on what happens in every episode, right? It's just kind of just kind of comedy, right? Yeah, and it's a quick... There's only 10 episode seasons and 30 minutes each, so... I'll probably still check it out at some point. Okay. Walking Dead Season 8 premieres October 22nd, and the second half of season 3 for Fear of the Walking Dead, September 10th. So I got to say,
Starting point is 00:49:23 say, okay, difference between fear and the walking dead, the big characters, the big comic book characters, the larger than life, cool fucking people. You don't have, in fear of the walking dead, there's no, you know, Michone and Rick and Daryl, you know. And I feel like those are kind of what make the walking dead. But I also feel like they've a little bit fallen off. They need to get more exciting real quick. Yeah, I mean, I think they'll both hang in there for a while. Fear of the Walking Dead is a different animal, you're right? And I hadn't thought of it quite that way, Philip, but now that you mention it,
Starting point is 00:50:02 they don't really have any larger-than-life characters on that show, you know? Yeah, that was just my... It's still a pretty good storyline. I mean, I'm happy. It's kind of cool seeing what's going on in a different part of the world, you know? Yeah. Or it's a different world of the country. That's definitely a cool part of it.
Starting point is 00:50:17 That was just an observation that I had after one. watching the previews back to back. I was like, man, see, the Walking Dead has got all these really cool fucking characters, and that's what fear is missing. Okay. All right, Lance, we got a Star Trek Discovery trailer that dropped. Tell us what you think. Well, it is Star Trek, and I'm definitely, you know, I'm excited as hell to see Star Trek back on TV again.
Starting point is 00:50:48 but as much as I hate it when I hear other people like old school people say this, old school Trekkies, but I'm going to go ahead and say it, guys, it just doesn't look like my Star Trek. It just does not look like Star Trek, guys. I mean, sorry, but fuck, and I will watch it, and I'm looking forward to it, but the look, it's too polished, you know? And it doesn't look like it's as story-driven as what Star Trek is supposed to be. so I hope I'm wrong, but, oh, man, I'm not thinking, I'm not feeling it, guys. I'm really not. What'd you guys?
Starting point is 00:51:23 I was digging the effects. Okay, well, see, that's just it. I think the biggest fucking. That's what Star Trek never really had on TV, you know? Yeah, I guess so. But, like, I think their biggest roadblock is going to be that you have to get that, like, ABC on demand or whatever the fuck it is. Yeah, CBS. All access?
Starting point is 00:51:41 Yeah. Yeah. That shows is strictly on there, huh? I think so, right? Oh, okay. I think it's set at the end of the trailer. I think it might have said that, yeah. But I don't think anybody's going to get CBS on demand just for this one fucking show unless you're like...
Starting point is 00:51:57 Well, I will. I mean, no matter how much the... Yeah. Yeah, no matter how much it turned me off, I guarantee you I'll have it. And I'll be there front and center, you know, watching every show as it's up. But I don't know. We'll, you know, give it time, I guess, and see what happens. But they've definitely got some great.
Starting point is 00:52:15 They've got some talented people in the in the show. That's what I was going to say. That's an interesting cast, yeah. It's got a great cast. But you need some hardcore trekkies to sell it. Well, here's my problem. The one dude who's playing the captain on the, I don't know if they call it the Enterprise, or which ship it is.
Starting point is 00:52:36 I think it's actually called the Discovery. But the guy, he's, I've never seen him act in anything except where he was a real sinister, evil dude. So it's going to be really hard for me to, you know, swallow him being a good guy. You guys know the actor I'm talking about? Oh, Jason Isaacs? He's the captain? Yeah, Jason Isaacs. He's the captain of the Discovery, which is the new ship. I don't know. It's going to be hard for me to like this guy, you know? I don't know. We'll see what happens. Yeah, you're right. He does play the bag. He was like kind of a pricking Black Hawk down. Is he need, like, Draco's dad and Harry Potter?
Starting point is 00:53:13 Yeah, and then he was in the show of the O-A and what was the Dane DeHan, the Care for Wellness? Oh, okay, isn't that? Oh, yeah. Same basic character, the evil, the evil doctor. Great bad guy. Yeah, evil scientist. So I see a character in here that was, yeah, I see a character that was in here that was in Walking Dead, so I'm guessing she doesn't make it out this season. You are behind.
Starting point is 00:53:40 Wow, you are a few episodes behind, brother. I told you. I see her in here, and I'm like, oh, she must be doing this show because she's not in another show anymore, all right? Okay, Star Trek Discovery, September 24th. Let's see. We got a new Kingsman trailer.
Starting point is 00:54:01 I'll be there, but we'll see. We'll see. Okay. Yeah, I'm going to check it out, definitely. Yeah, cool. New Kingsman, the Golden Circle trailer, dropped in. I am fully in on this movie.
Starting point is 00:54:13 This movie looks, I think it might be as good as the first one. I don't think there will be any sequel drop off or anything. I'm fully in. Especially as Matt and Bonn return too. Yeah. Yes. I think when a director comes back, you know, I think
Starting point is 00:54:29 it helps just a look of it, the feel like everyone involved, everyone recognizes. And it has that luck, too. He just does action like just so clever. Apparently they screened some like 10 minutes of the 10 minutes of the beginning of the movie at Comic Con and they said it was
Starting point is 00:54:45 if not better than the church scene from the last one. You guys remember the church scene how crazy that was. Just imagine that but like more and it's the beginning of the movie for the sequel. Wow. Yeah. It's gonna be fun.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Let's see. September 22nd is the Kingsman. All right, we're gonna finish up here with the DC panel and the Marvel panel. We're going to start with DC first. I don't know if anybody cares about this. Sci-Fi is having
Starting point is 00:55:17 a Krypton TV show. Ugh, looks terrible. Why go back and show another fucking prequel, you know? Yeah, I know. Damn it. Do they not have enough new material? It was just a little teaser, though. Like, you didn't, you can't even... But who gives a fuck what happened on crypto, dude?
Starting point is 00:55:33 I guess. Honestly, who gives a fuck? Seriously? You know how it ends. Is Goths? Yeah, exactly. Is Gotham popular? Because, like, maybe like, hey, Gotham's doing really well.
Starting point is 00:55:45 Let's go to Crypto. You know what? I dropped off of Gotham, but I didn't put it on the list. But I checked out the new season. And it's kind of making me want to go back. Really? Interesting. Yeah, I'm just, I think the main thing I was just not a fan of that kid from the darkness.
Starting point is 00:56:02 Yeah. And incarnate and whatever movie was in our top worst movies of the year, they keep casting his kid. I know, right? He's the missing link here. He's in all of them. But Krypton wasn't impressed. They also dropped new trailers for Arrow, the Flash, and all that.
Starting point is 00:56:20 I don't know. I dropped off a long time ago. Yeah, me too. Yeah. I only watched one episode, I think it was for Flash. And it was like a Comic Con a couple years back. It was the first, it was a pilot. And that was fun, maybe just because I was there.
Starting point is 00:56:34 Oh, yeah. That was a fun episode. But I just have so much stuff to watch. I can't, you know, it's hard to find time. There's so many good shows. And with each one of these shows, they're like 26 episodes each season.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Yeah, Jesus Christ. Yeah, what the hell? It is. It's overwhelming. It's like everything I think Brian says, so I can just be quiet. And he's like, he's like saying everything I was going to say the whole,
Starting point is 00:56:55 the whole show. Right. You're not fucking wrong, man. Yeah. Let's get it to the movies for DC. I think, Alfonso, I think you said it earlier. Patty Jenkins officially coming back for Wonder Woman 2, which was a no-brainer.
Starting point is 00:57:12 Yeah, they have a similar move. Release date already set for Wonder Woman 2 December 13, 2019. They were like, oh, we got one. Yeah, let's get one. Don't get rid of it. Yeah, a big shakeup. They dropped their movie schedule. A lot of things moved around.
Starting point is 00:57:32 Of course, we're getting Aquaman. I'm going to read the list as it. No real release. states on most of these. So the slate goes Aquaman Shazam. I don't know why Suicide Squad 2 is going to be in there. The Batman
Starting point is 00:57:47 Justice League Dark, Batgirl, Greenland and Corpse, the Flash, which is officially titled Flashpoint. Oh, fuck. That got me, that has me intrigued. We'll get to that part. And then Wonder Woman 2.
Starting point is 00:58:03 I don't know why we're getting a suicide squad 2 before anything else. To make money. Right? Yeah, it did. You're right. You're right, Afonzo. That's the one thing.
Starting point is 00:58:14 Uh-huh. It was still fun to see them. At the end of the time. Yeah, I wanted to see the Mel Gibson. I wanted to see the Mel Gibson. Yeah, that actually sounded kind of cool right. Yeah. That would have been.
Starting point is 00:58:26 But that, that might have been, he might have made something that just, they're not put out or they're going to cut it down so much. Yeah. studios not going to have that. They're not going to give control of anybody. He might have made a suicide squad that actually committed suicide. Now, the Flashpoint Flash movie, I'm intrigued because it's going to set up an alternate timeline in the movie, which really is, it was a really cool story. And it might bring back, who played Thomas Wayne and Batman versus.
Starting point is 00:59:05 Negan, what's that? Oh, yeah, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Yep, yep. Yeah, he actually in that timeline, Thomas Wayne is Batman. Okay, so that ties in with that other story.
Starting point is 00:59:17 That ties in with the other story. Okay. Yeah. I get it now. So I think, I think this would be really cool. And then I heard someone talking about online that this would kind of fix some things
Starting point is 00:59:30 in their universe. It might change some things up, since it's an alternate timeline. type of deal. So this might be a way for them to fix some of their problems. Yeah, you're jumping into X-Men territory, but, I mean, it's not like the DC universe has a whole lot to lose at the moment. No shit.
Starting point is 00:59:49 Yeah. Ben Affleck has addressed the rumors that he's about him not playing Batman no more. He said he is Batman. It's the greatest job in the world to play Batman, and he's Batman, and so he can't do it no more. Yeah, that's him. There you go. I've heard the studio response.
Starting point is 01:00:12 Yeah, I've heard rumors that he's actually signed on to the Matt Reeves' Batman proposed trilogy, so we'll at least get him for two more movies. It would make sense. Okay. We'll see if it actually happens. Yeah. Biggest thing for DC was the Justice League trailer. Your guys is feeling.
Starting point is 01:00:33 Oh, boy. well it's very uh wonder woman was very uh heavily present in it right is that you're gonna say very very smarter though open it up with uh wonder woman uh huh
Starting point is 01:00:48 remember her guys you guys like that movie with her in it right look she's in this too right yeah i do i do think this is a better trailer than the previous ones yeah uh different tone not as dark and uh moody but you think that's all Josh Whedon? Because you know how he's taking over now?
Starting point is 01:01:07 Oh, maybe? It's a lot lighter looking. It's like a lot more. Right, right. You know, the music's different because I think Danny Elton's scoring now. Yeah. So it's got a whole different feel. Now that Weeden is taking over now. So I wonder if that's why. And not to rip on them too hard because, you know, I mean, it's hard to judge before you see the movie because I'm definitely going to go see it.
Starting point is 01:01:27 And I'm a little bit excited about it, even though I'm, you know, I'm going to hold my judgment. but they had that little surfboard scene with Jason. You know what? I like that. I do too. I don't even care.
Starting point is 01:01:41 But they put bad CGI in the fucking preview. Dude, seriously. They'll clean it up when it comes to the other words. I hope so. Despite what a lot of people say about Jason, he looks like he's having fun playing.
Starting point is 01:01:59 That's what thing, right? For sure. He looks at him. Yeah, no, I totally watch off the same scene, you know? Let's see. Yeah, release date November 17th, so not too far away. Yeah, all right. Now into, we're going to finish it off with our Margo panel.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Defenders released another trailer. I'm definitely watching this. Yeah, what's not like? Yeah, kind of left off. I got bad taste in my mouth with the, end of Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Yeah, those are my things I didn't really like. But, um...
Starting point is 01:02:39 I would agree. I mean, those shows weren't as good as the others, for sure. Yeah, very intrigued, though. Uh, and watch... I want to see what Sigourney Weev is going to do as the villain. Yeah. Daredevil's back. I'm happy about that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:55 Uh, they showed, um... Let's do that. Yeah. They showed the punishment. a trailer at Comic-Con, which they haven't released, and a lot of people are excited for this. Yeah. A lot of people said this is the Punisher that we should have been getting, so. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:16 Legion Season 2, I think they showed a little bit of something there. I didn't really get much information off that, other than season 2 will come early 2018 with 10 episodes instead of 8. Okay. Okay. And showrunner Noah Hawley, who also does Fargo, uh, drop some news that he's developing a Dr. Doom movie.
Starting point is 01:03:40 Any feelings on Noah Holly doing a Dr. Doom movie? I guess they, uh, left the, uh, Fantastic Four and just went straight with Dr. Doe, huh? What do you think about that idea, Alfonso? Yeah, because I don't know, I thought they were going to go like, uh, in the future in Fantastic Four. They were going to have their kids, be the main guys. so I don't know, but... Yeah, I heard they were doing some kind of family, friendly,
Starting point is 01:04:05 PG, Fantastic Four movie. I don't... Just give it back to Marvel. I don't know. Seriously, yeah, exactly. I think that's what they're doing. They keep making... They have that contract
Starting point is 01:04:18 where they have to keep making movies so they won't lose that contract or also have to, you know, renegotiate. But I think they should just give it up and give it to them. I don't know why they're holding on to it. How can we make the Fantastic Four work?
Starting point is 01:04:31 Yeah, exactly. Let's make them kids now. Let's make it fantastic four-year-old. I like Dr. Doom and Marvel versus Capitol. Yeah, there you go. Hey, I might watch that. I can go watch it. Marvel probably, in my opinion,
Starting point is 01:04:47 released the worst trailer of Comic-Con, and that was the Inhumans. No, you didn't like it? No. That was pretty rough. I've been waiting... IMAX. I've been waiting to...
Starting point is 01:05:01 see how they do Medusa's hair and it looks like CGR garbage. Yeah. And when it's not CGR, her wig is horrible. Yeah. Wow. Especially seeing after watching the other
Starting point is 01:05:15 trailers and the other TV shows and then get into that one, you're like, well, and then you're like, this is on ABC, right? Yeah. Yeah. That's, I don't know. I just can't get into network TV shows. I don't, I don't understand. I don't understand why would you go pay to watch the first
Starting point is 01:05:31 two episodes in iMacs when you can just wait a week or two and watch them on TV. I don't know what they're... Oh, yeah, God, no. I don't know why they jam-packed that IMAX thing so much, but I got an ad plane.
Starting point is 01:05:46 Yeah. Like, for another, for something, another commercial, like, can I skip this ad? And I kept coming up. I'm like, oh, wait, this is part of the commercial. This is part of the trailer. Yeah, I think so at first I was thinking it was a movie, and I was like, oh, I don't know about that.
Starting point is 01:05:59 Yeah, somebody commented, on one of our pages that they thought this was not the trailer for the show, but a behind the scenes special bonus footage. And I was like, no, this is the actual TV show. Yeah. So.
Starting point is 01:06:13 It doesn't not like that. Marvel's the gifted trailer dropped. It's new X-Men Fox show. Not impressed. No, it totally looks like just a network TV show. Yeah, exactly. It's a little heroes looking.
Starting point is 01:06:30 But, especially with the main girl. She looks like Hayden, right? Exactly. But without, like, anybody, big name playing anybody. Yeah. But I actually getting to the power zone. Because I was intrigued by, like, having a, what's his name? God, the guy is playing like the Indian type.
Starting point is 01:06:50 Forget his name now. But it had blink from the last. Like, I thought she was pretty cool. That's a Thunderbird. Yeah. It was funny because they had, like, Thunderbird and then Polaris and then, like, blink. And then they had, like, two characters just. the first and last name like it was cool or something.
Starting point is 01:07:02 Yeah, what's up with that, man? Yeah, I was like, okay, is that the name? Because that was kind of weird, but yeah, the girl reminds me of Hayden, so totally reminded me of heroes. Oh, yeah. I watched, I like the first season of heroes, and then I didn't like the second season hero. So I'm like, that's a bad taste of my mouth.
Starting point is 01:07:18 Yeah, exactly. But it was just, yeah, I'm like, here's another superhero TV show. We're getting, we're getting too crowded with all these superhero shows and so many. Right, yeah. Let's see. We got a release date of October 22nd. I'm going to try to go through this last bit because we're kind of pressed for time here.
Starting point is 01:07:37 So the last bit is Marvel movie news. Ant Man of the Wasp has cast Michelle Pfeiffer to play Janet Van Dyne. Okay. She would be Michael Douglas' wife. Also cast in Ant Man of the Wasp. Lawrence Fishburn, Walton Goggins, Randall Park, and Hannah John Cayman. Damn. So that's a pretty good cast right there.
Starting point is 01:08:01 No kidding. Time me up. Captain Marvel will be set in the 90s and will introduce the scrolls, which I know a little bit about the scrolls. This could be where the Marvel cinematic universe is going to go after Thanos. So I'm pretty interested in that.
Starting point is 01:08:22 Nick Fury will... Huh? It's going to go back in time then? Because it's six-pics in the 90s, you said, right? Well, yeah, but Captain Marvel is going to be in Avengers Infinity War, so I don't know. That's not her, maybe she wasn't. I think she is. I think she's on IMDB listed, so.
Starting point is 01:08:41 Okay. It kind of got people talking, because if this is said in the 90s, how old is Brie Larson's character supposed to be now? Yeah. Yeah. People were saying Nick Fear, Nick Fury didn't have his eye patched in this movie, too, in Captain Yeah, we're getting, I guess they're going to go the Michael Douglas round and young him up in this one, and he's going to have both eyes. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 01:09:08 Let's see, Black Panther show new footage, and there is a video of them, of the cast, watching, the panel watching the footage, and they just, like, jumped out of their seats. Like, they are super pumped about this movie, and it just got the crowd excited. I'm already excited, so. It looks awesome. Hey, Marvel hadn't gone wrong yet. Okay, and... Not in the movie department at least. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:32 Right. I'm going to finish up with the two biggest trailers of Comic Con. First is Thor Ragnarok. Yes. So good. So good. Looks good. That was my favorite trailer.
Starting point is 01:09:45 Yeah, it's up there. Yeah, super excited. You know, we actually got to hear Hulk talking this. I love that part. Yeah, right. Got more of the... what's going on. Or with the one-liners.
Starting point is 01:09:59 Yeah. I think that's what's helping me, right? It's funnier than it. I didn't really like the second one. I've tried watching it a couple of times, and I just don't like it as much as the first one. All the other Marvel movies have a lot of comedy. And I think it's super smart of Marvel hiring Tyco with Titi to direct.
Starting point is 01:10:14 And like, his comedy is all over because you can tell. And I fucking love what we do in the shadows. I mean, that movie I think it's fucking hilarious. So just to have them. I think it was a couple times. What's that? Oh, I'm sorry. I thought.
Starting point is 01:10:26 there's a couple times in the previews where I actually laughed. Yes. It looks super fucking funny. Speaking of fantasy, right? I mean, we've just got that look, right? Drop the news that Clancy Brown is the voice of Sertor. He is the big fire demon at the end of the trailer. Okay, that's cool.
Starting point is 01:10:46 And Clancy Brown will always be, what's his name, the Kyrgyn from, what is it, the Highlander? Oh, yeah, sure. Sure. I think a lot of people know. He's always a big bad, dude. He's usually like a military leader or something like that that's gone rogue. I've never seen him in anything where he hasn't just totally hammed it up, like in a good way. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:11:13 Right. And to me and my kids, he's always Mr. Krebs. He's been around for sure. And finally, they drop the infinity. war trailer, which they did not release online, but there are ways. There are ways you can watch. We have vase.
Starting point is 01:11:34 I actually I might have watched it. Oh, yeah? This might be my number one movie next year. Oh, wow. It's going to be good. So, if nobody's seen it, then
Starting point is 01:11:47 we can just move on. No, but it sounds awesome. Yeah. Well, people were saying, yeah. I mean, like the scene with Thanos and certain planet. I was like, soul. Ah, okay. Yeah. So, I'm super excited. And that is all we have.
Starting point is 01:12:05 All right. Well, we trudged through. We made it. And we were trying to keep the show under an hour. It's going to be a challenge. But do we happen to have any listener feedback this week? So our big question this week in the horror returns group, which if you haven't signed on to the horror returns group on Facebook, now. We'll pause the show.
Starting point is 01:12:27 Go do it and come back. It was, who could have played a better Valerian or Loreline than Dane DeHan and Kara Delavine? Close enough, man. Carl McCalla suggested
Starting point is 01:12:46 Charlese Theron for Loreline. Thomas Mariani suggested that it might make sense if Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lauren were to swap rolls from passengers, which he feels would improve both movies. I'm not mad at that.
Starting point is 01:13:02 Me too. I like that, yeah. Our buddy Patrick Lear picks Justin Timberlake for Valerian. Hey, don't laugh. Don't laugh. Justin Timberlake's a pretty good actor. I think he could have pulled it off, man. He was supposed to be like a pretty boy ladies man.
Starting point is 01:13:22 Oh, need a movie. Timberlake's been good in. Oh, dude, come on, man. Alpha dog. He's a side character. Nah, but he was a damn good side character in that one, man. I'm going to stand behind him for Alpha Dog big time. And Anna Sophia Robb, and I'm not, who, for Laurelian.
Starting point is 01:13:43 I'm not real sure who she is either. She's spent a couple things. Yeah, she's very young. I think she's very young. I'm not sure she could have pulled that off. Patrick also suggested Sophia Botella for Laurel. line, who was also an Atomic Blonde and super hot
Starting point is 01:13:58 in that movie. That's for them. Jason Morris actually mostly agreed with Lance that the actors involved were fine in the roles, and it was a pretty damn good movie all the way around. Oh, yeah. Jason's right.
Starting point is 01:14:16 No, I mean, they could have picked any number of people for for Valerian. I think, you know what I think would have been really cool is Ryan Gosling. I totally would watch that. Oh, come on, dude. You fucking go back there again. Yeah, same here.
Starting point is 01:14:33 He makes every movie perfect. He pulls a major off a lot better than Dane Don. For sure. But I like Dane Don. Yeah. All right. Well. Tommy Whistaw would have been better.
Starting point is 01:14:51 Ouch. I'm speechless. So you wouldn't make everything better. I'm speechless. Oh, hi, Lorelai. You're tearing me upon, Laura Lange. I don't know how well we could have pulled off flirting. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 01:15:13 Wow. So the shining wins out for our poll on which Stephen King film to pair with next week on the Dark Tower. Thanks to everyone voted on our online poll. Is anybody mad at that choice? It doesn't have anything to do with the story, though. I mean, I would have preferred it if we would pick something that's more like a similar storyline to the Dark Tower, but I couldn't think of anything. Alfonso, could you think of a prior movie that has the same basic plot line? That's the thing.
Starting point is 01:15:48 I didn't know the book to a movie, but I just saw the shining on it. I think I voted for The Shining. Okay. Yeah, buddy. I mean, it's a great. It's a film. Yeah, but you're right. As part of the pairing goes, you're right.
Starting point is 01:16:00 Yeah, it's just a little odd. I'm happy with it. All right. I'm ready to watch The Shining. I haven't seen it in years. We have a new iTunes review. Yeah, buddy. All right.
Starting point is 01:16:13 A friend of the show, Melissa Stevens, from Two Jed Chicks podcast. Go check it out. If you haven't, they talk about the Walking Dead and associated stuff. said, these dudes are thebom.com. I am a podcast snob. I listen to exactly five podcasts, and THR is one of them.
Starting point is 01:16:33 Lance, Brian, and Philip are so fun to listen to. You feel like you're hanging out with three of your buddies and talking about the movies and the shows you've been watching, which is pretty much what we do. I love that they seem to have a good time and aren't overly analytical. Brian is a wealth of knowledge, which, yeah, no shit. you should be on a game show or some shit when it comes to all things comic and horror related
Starting point is 01:16:58 Philip can almost always find something good in the movie or show in question which I appreciate and Lance isn't afraid to tell it like it is when he thinks the lead to him. True. These guys are truly a perfect balance of knowledge, wit, humor, optimism, and well-placed skepticism and awesomeness.
Starting point is 01:17:23 Thanks, Melissa. That was amazing. Damn, thanks. You totally are getting a T-shirt. That's the deal, right? Absolutely, that's the deal, man. And they go to print in about three weeks, so we'll have them. Rock off.
Starting point is 01:17:39 You'll get it. And we're happy to announce that we're still well on our way to our goal of a thousand likes on the main Facebook page by the end of the year. we're actually at 901 right now. So with any luck, hey, bye. Samantha Leonard of Houston, Texas. Thank you for helping to push us towards our goal. We hope you enjoy the podcast.
Starting point is 01:18:04 All right. Thank you, Samantha. You're getting a T-shirt, too. Outstanding. Thank you, like Oprah. You get a T-Eat. You get a T-T-T. Oh, my, everybody gets a T-T-T.
Starting point is 01:18:17 Thanks to everybody. reaches out to us, we love the feedback, and as always you can reach us at our Facebook or Podbean page or any of the other social media is just type in the Horror Returns and the little search bar, or the Horror Returns group on the Facebook page again. Or you can email
Starting point is 01:18:32 us directly at the Horror Returns at gmail.com. We love to hear from you. Let us know what you think. All right, cool. So now it's time for our featured attractions. And as we said before, it's action week. So once again, at the horror returns, it's time to switch
Starting point is 01:18:50 into high gear. We're going to go into the world of Killer Blonds with Atomic Blonde and Kill Bill. So we'll start out with some trivia as we always do for the older movie, Kill Bill. Director and writer I'm sure this surprises none of, absolutely zero of our listeners
Starting point is 01:19:05 that it's a one certain Quentin Tarantino shouldn't even mention what else he's done, but we'll say also known for death proof and the hateful eight. Christopher Well, you know, we've talked about both a lot, and we've reviewed death proofs, so, you know. Christopher Alan Nelson worked on the special effects.
Starting point is 01:19:28 He revealed in an interview that over 450 gallons of fake blood were used between the two films. Kill Bill 1 and 2. That does not surprise me. Not a shocker. Quentin Tarantino owns the pussy wagon and drove as his every day. It doesn't surprise me. He drove it as his everyday vehicle to promote the release of Kill Bill Volume 2. He licensed use of it for a Missy Elliott music video, I'm Really Hot.
Starting point is 01:20:01 And it also appears in the video for telephone by Lady Gaga and Beyonce. And final piece of trivia, the shot where the bride splits of baseball in two with a samurai sword was done for real on the set. It was done by Zoe Bell, Uma Thurman, Steve. who we also talked about in deathproof. There you go. All right, Alfonso, our tradition here is to let our guests have the option if they want to go first. So would you like to speak first, my friend? Sure, I love Kill Bill.
Starting point is 01:20:36 I took a day off from work just to go see in the theater because I was so excited for the next Tarantino movie. Damn. And I remember reading back then where it was supposed to be one whole movie, but then they broke it down in two. So I was like, all right, and it sucks a way to wait for the second one. But after like a couple years later down the road, I was able to catch the whole bloody affair at this theater in L.A. called New Beverly. And they were showing for like a month.
Starting point is 01:20:59 And I was like, oh, I got to see it. I've always wanted to see it throughout with the intermission. And the House of Blue, what was it? The fight in the Blue Leaves, the club. It's in color instead of in black and white. Oh, the scene with the Crazy 88's where it's filmed in black and white. Yes. They redid it in color?
Starting point is 01:21:16 Yeah, originally, yeah, he wanted in color, but in order to pass the ratings, he had to do it in black and white. I didn't know that. So that's why it's in black and white. So it's cool. There's a lot of montasas. In fact, like Michael Zai White was cut from the film because he's in some training montages. But he still didn't show up in the whole bloody affair cut, which I thought was interesting. But everything is pretty much the same except just for that scene.
Starting point is 01:21:37 And then like the interim area, and it's just, to me it plays out way better throughout as a one-home movie. But I'm not mad if they broke it up. Yeah. No, I'm a huge fan of, like, the soundtrack. I mean, just like everything, Tarento's dialogue, the casting choice. I mean, it's like if you're a horror fan, you see Sid Hake show up in part two. Michael Parks is amazing in it.
Starting point is 01:21:58 You know, he plays, you know, he's always, his sheriff. Women Thurmetz just did a great job. I love the reference to Game of Death. Firstly, the game of death with the outfit she's wearing. The scene with the anime scene in part one is amazing. I love it. Like, Lincoln Park, like, like, it so much.
Starting point is 01:22:16 In one of their videos, they use the same animation group in one of their videos. Oh, I've seen that. Yeah, it's the same group, yeah. And I thought,
Starting point is 01:22:23 and I was so bummed that I thought in part two that we were going to get another animation and we did. And I was so bummed. I wish we could have got another one of those because I think that was just amazing. The movie totally worked well. Fit in well. Yeah. And the twisted nerve soundtrack,
Starting point is 01:22:37 the whistling, you can hear it. You still hear that song. Sure. It's sampled today. Yeah, there was some rap song called Kill Bill, I think.
Starting point is 01:22:45 the samples it right now and my kids were listening to it, wrapping to it. I'm like, do you do you know where that's from? Like, come on, man. It's like, it's not even Kill Bill. It's like even another movie that Kill Bill. Yeah, like in old 60s obscure horror movie, right? Yeah, I think it's called Twisted Nerve, I think. Yeah. That sounds about right, dude. Yep. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:03 I remember reading that. Yeah, I, um, yeah, I absolutely love Kill Bill. This is like, it's one of my favorites of his. I wish he would finish it. I wish, like, he said maybe down the road when, you know, Like, we get to see the kids go at it, Uma's kid, and Vivica Fox's kid maybe go at it in the third one. That's what I was waiting on.
Starting point is 01:23:24 Yeah. We had a couple of movies left, and I have a feeling that. Right. Before he retires, right? Can we get that? Please, can we get that? Oh, it would be incredible. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:32 So to me, yeah. I read some things. It might include, what's the character's name, L? Returning? Oh, yeah, of course. It's got it. And, and, what was her name? Sophia?
Starting point is 01:23:44 the one that got her arm cut off. Yeah, like all these people seeking... Basically, all these people seeking revenge. Right. Okay. Yeah, so it'll be blind, too. The California Mountains thing, be blind. Yeah, both.
Starting point is 01:23:57 She's got other eyes on. Yeah. And the other one that got stepped on, so she can't put that back on. Sure. Yeah, no, I absolutely love Kill Bill one and two. It's like one of my favorites. Yeah, I, uh, one thing I'll say about Tarantino is this, this dude knows how to write script. I mean, every fucking movie he's
Starting point is 01:24:16 ever done is just, it's like a movie geek's wet dream when you listen to the dialogue that he writes. And it's a work of art. I'm not the biggest, the world's biggest kung fu fan, so I would say that out of all
Starting point is 01:24:32 the Tarantino films that I've seen, kill bills probably toward the bottom for me personally, just because I'm not really, you know, a big kung fu fan. I kind of liken it to professional wrestling a little bit, and I'm I'm not really into wrestling, and I just kind of feel like it's the same, you know, kind of the same formula a little bit. A hundred years are.
Starting point is 01:24:53 Yeah, I know. Everybody's going to fucking shit all over me, but it's just, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you got one person, it's always the same fucking formula. You got one person in the middle of 88 people or 100 people or whatever, and each one attacks them one at a time, you know? It's like, give me a break. Why don't they just fucking bumrush the hero, you know? and that you kind of fucking, I don't really get it like when a master is so proficient at their art
Starting point is 01:25:20 that they can jump up and step on a sword and just kind of like sit there and hover while the person's holding the sword. And then like, how can somebody be so, such a kung fu expert that they can, you know, they're buried under, you know, eight feet of dirt and they could just punch and punch their way out of it.
Starting point is 01:25:39 I mean, that's just me. That just kind of, you know, isn't exactly my, cup of tea so much, but for what this movie was and the way it was filmed and the way he mixed in the animation, as you mentioned earlier, Alfonso, absolute fucking beautiful work of art.
Starting point is 01:25:55 Very well-filled movie. Again, I'll say it again, I'll take Tarantino's dialogue over almost any writer ever in the history of cinema. That's how much I'm behind Tarantino and what he can put on paper and have people say, and it just, it's just fucking amazing.
Starting point is 01:26:12 and there's a lot of things to love about this movie, but just not necessarily my favorite type of Tarantino movie. Yeah, you know what? I'm not super mad at that, because this is not by any means my favorite Tarantino movie either. I think it falls kind of in the middle to me. I love old-school comfortable movies when the fight scenes are really fucking awesome.
Starting point is 01:26:37 But things like John Wick, too, which I rewatched and I wanted that to be my cool of the week, except I think it's already been my cool of the week like twice, have kind of spoiled me on fight scenes because man, they fucking perfected it. This one, though, was cool if you... You got to go into that little bit of cheesy territory. That crazy 88 scene.
Starting point is 01:27:10 is the best scene in both movies. It is great. I love the chick with the ball. She's swinging the thing. The cinematography is incredible. Yes. Quentin Tarantino is a fucking genius. All right.
Starting point is 01:27:25 And I'm talking, this is, it may not be my favorite Quentin Tarantino movie, but this was amazing. It was great. The whole goddamn thing, man. And watching them back to back like that was kind of awesome. I watched them with my mom. because uh...
Starting point is 01:27:39 Just what you do. Right, well, she's, she's, she's helping babysit while my wife's out right now. So we watch the whole thing, and, uh, and she's, she's really into sci-fi and like fun action stuff, but this was originally a little too bloody for her. She really enjoyed the whole thing, watching both of them back to back like that. And, uh, I think if you take the crazy 88 scene out of it, the whole, the whole, Orin Ishii backstory and everything
Starting point is 01:28:12 because I think that was I think that was the golden ticket of the movie right there, you know? If you take all that then it's kind of just okay but you put that in and it makes it incredible. So I
Starting point is 01:28:28 have a ton of respect for it. It's not, it's by no means my favorite Quentin Tarantino but it's really amazing and if you haven't seen it, what the fuck you do? yeah um i love kill bill and we talked we talked a little bit about the cast i mean we also had sunny chiba in this movie and if anybody doesn't know sunny chiba go check his films out and you mentioned a alfonso you mentioned michael parks he was actually in this movie twice he was in
Starting point is 01:28:58 the second one as estabar and he's fucking great in that scene yes he is you're fucking kidding me that was uh parks again yes it was holy shit, I got to go. That's how good he is. That's how good he is. You didn't recognize. He's got that accent down. Perfect.
Starting point is 01:29:14 He's holding that cigarette. He's just fucking charred. Yeah. He's fucking raiding. Got his horse hanging around and just a fucking late guy dude. Oh, those girls. But another thing that I really liked about Quentin is his, the way he directs
Starting point is 01:29:34 and casts certain people, because I am not a Darryl Hannah fan. or Bivica Fox, Lucy Lou. I don't, I don't, no. Yeah, none of them are like super standout, you know, actors. All of those people are amazing. Yeah, in this movie. In this movie.
Starting point is 01:29:50 That's what I'm saying. If anything else, if you bring up those actresses, I mean, of course, Darrow Hanna, you're going to bring a splash, but. Right. Crush them as a kid. Yeah, but any other time you bring up those actresses, I go to Kill Bill because I thought they were fantastic. and that whole opening fight scene of a bit with a Fox.
Starting point is 01:30:10 Oh, yeah. I love that scene. Yeah. This movie and it's almost like, I understand why they broke it up because there's two different tones to the first and the second movie. And I loved it. My only gripe with it is I didn't like how this movie ended the second movie. It was a lot of build up to nothing to me. Well, I just, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:30:36 Maybe. She used the move that she was. us taught. She proved she was the only one worthy of learning that Kung Fu move, you know? I understand that. It's just, I kind of grew up watching a little bit of the Kung Fu show. Right. So I wanted
Starting point is 01:30:49 to see David Caradine kick some ass. Yeah. And we never got to see him do anything. That's a good point. I never thought about it. And he is built up go ahead. No, we did get to hear him, his
Starting point is 01:31:07 fucking golden voice, you know? Yeah. I mean, it was just amazing. When he was sitting there by the campfire telling her the story about, uh, uh, Piway. Pie. That's a Tarantino, man. Oh, man.
Starting point is 01:31:19 That was, he was, he was perfect for that, you know. I mean, he was great in the role. He didn't need to be in. Yeah. I just, just me as, as, as, growing up watching him, I just wanted to see something, you know. I can understand that. But we didn't get it.
Starting point is 01:31:36 But overall, for his character, I just, I was okay with it. But, you know, they built him up to be a badass. And, you know, he also had a code name. He was Snake Charmer. He was the head of the whole, the whole whatever, Viper, assassin team or whatever they were called. And I just, I wanted to see him, I don't know, throw one punch, maybe. I always thought that was him in the animation scene with the white suit. Because they, like, focused on the sword.
Starting point is 01:32:02 Ah. You know what he's pulling his hair back? And I'm thinking, I wonder if that's him younger. Okay. You know what? Now that you say that, that kind of seems like it might be that way. Right? Because they focus on him a lot towards the end. You know, he's flipping his hair back and throws the cigar. He shoots all sideways. It's all cool. You know, I was, and then they focus on the sword, the hot 30 Hanzo sword. I always wonder if that was him. That makes perfect sense, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:28 Yes. Wow. I wonder if we could look that up on Google or something. I'll be curious to see. I don't know to check that out. I guess it's just whatever you want. want it to be, you know? Right. Yeah, exactly. Or they may tie it all together in the third one if they ever make it, right? She said that's the way you lift up the sword with his thumb, kind of flicked it up.
Starting point is 01:32:47 Sure. Well, shit. Are we ready to get him to score? Yeah, I think so, because we've got to talk about the main movie, and we're coming up on over an hour and a half. So we try to keep it within the time frame, but, you know how that is. Yeah, I would, uh, I didn't do that. I like it going to work. I would say this movie for me is...
Starting point is 01:33:11 Alonzo, what you think, buddy? Okay, go ahead. Yeah, I'm sorry. You're on first Alfonso. I'm trying to jump out there, man. Oh, no, it's okay. Yeah, you guys are on a five-star rating, right? One through ten, man.
Starting point is 01:33:26 Out of ten. Oh, okay. Yeah, this movie I can watch, if it's on TV, I'm going to catch it. There's not like a boring part for me. I'll watch it whenever. So to me, I'm going to give it a... 10 out of 10. I just, I could always watch it. I love it that much. I really, I do. Damn.
Starting point is 01:33:40 Just because it's got all these character actors. And the animation scene, like I said, never gets old. The soundtrack is amazing. Tarantino, just like you said, when you, just when actors are sitting there and they're talking for like 15, 20 minutes, it's so engaging that there's no action going on, but just them talking is so, it's so good. Even when the movie does slow down, it's fascinating to me. So I just don't ever get bored of it. So, yeah. Okay. Yeah, well, I'm going to, I'm going to give this. a little bit lower rating than what it deserves.
Starting point is 01:34:08 And that's just simply a preference thing because of, uh, it's not the type of movie that I normally would go to. Um, but I mean, if you look at the, the impact that this movie has had on pop culture, you know, like you said, the sampling. And I, I heard a couple of other songs in here. The, the soundtrack was amazing. Just like every Tarantino movie, the soundtrack is absolutely fucking point on. Almost over the top.
Starting point is 01:34:32 It's so perfect with what's going on. But I've heard, I've heard, I've heard, sampling from the whistling you were talking about. I've heard like some of the score. I've heard sampled in a couple of songs within the last, you know, 10 years. I've heard a lot of the lines. The commercial, too, right?
Starting point is 01:34:47 Yeah, the commercial. Hell yeah, dude. The Camero commercial was playing that song. And other trailers were playing that song when she's writing the motorcycle. Everyone bit that song after the movie came out of right. Everybody did. And a lot of the score, like the background music has, I've heard it here, there, and everywhere.
Starting point is 01:35:03 Yeah, by the list, too, but for Moutang. You know what? And this is the kind of movie that is perfect for Wu-Tang, because they're big into fucking kung fu. Oh, yeah. But he, yeah. Hell yeah, dude. And he's really, really big into, you know, he does a lot of movies or a lot of music and movies that we don't even know about. You know, he's so involved in it these days.
Starting point is 01:35:27 But if you look at some of the, or you listen to some of the lines in the movie, too, like, for example, you know, there was the, there was, the there was the one that you know the scene that philip loved so much where she said you didn't really think it was going to be that easy did you and of course you know uh beatrix says you know for a minute there i actually kind of did i've heard that i've heard that played a couple of places before classic yeah so one of the transformers movie uh samples the song too that same one when she's random motorcycle. I think when, when, when, um, when, uh, when, uh, when, uh, when, uh, when, Bobbleby's transforms, uh, he gets the new look Camaro,
Starting point is 01:36:07 right? Maybe from the first one. And I remember hearing that and going, hey, come on, man, that's from Kill Bill. I was like, come on. Well, dude, I mean, let's, let's face facts. If, if I were, if I were to line up my, you know, my, my, my, my, my score with, with, with the importance and influence this has had on pop culture, it, it would be much closer to what you just gave it.
Starting point is 01:36:28 But just because of my preferences, um, I, um, I still give it, I consider a really, really strong score of 7.5. Okay. Yeah, you know what? I'm not terribly mad at that. I think I have to take into account that it's a Tarantino film. And I think that maybe I was looking a little harder at it than I should be, because if anybody else directed this film.
Starting point is 01:36:52 It's kind of what I was thinking, too. A complete masterpiece. I think there's nobody that. ever at picking music for a movie than Quentin Tarantino. That guy's awesome. I had a hard time picking music for this one. I'm going to give it a nine because it's hard for me to go lower than that on a Tarantino film. I mean, he may have a couple of them that dips into the eights,
Starting point is 01:37:24 but he's got a couple of them that are straight tens to me. and this one I'm going to go nine. I'm also going to go nine. I like the action, the directing the dialogue, everything. He made a lot of actresses and certain other people better for me in this movie than they would ever be in any other movie. I do take a little bit off because, like I said, it was a little anticlimactic for me at the end. And take also a little bit off because Uma Thurman has the ugliest feet I've ever seen. Man, someone had to go there.
Starting point is 01:38:00 I don't know. Why did they show that? Why are you doing? Because Tarantino has a foot fetish. Think about it. Look at all his movies. He always shows feet. And then you see her feet again when she steps on the eyeball.
Starting point is 01:38:11 I'm like, ugh. Yes, yeah. Just wiggle your big toe. He does. He has a foot fetish. That's why it's always there. Oh, it's too funny. I had too many high heels on.
Starting point is 01:38:21 Maybe, yeah. So you should have Zoe Bell's feet in there. Yeah. The stunt feet. All right. On to the next movie? All right, yep. We'll move on now to the featured attraction this week,
Starting point is 01:38:34 which is the brand new Atomic Blonde. Director is David Leach, also known for the upcoming Deadpool, too, Philip. Yeah. Nice. You have that to look forward to. Ryder was Kurt Johnstad. He also was known for 300 in Act of Valor, among other movies. So Charlize Theron had...
Starting point is 01:38:58 eight personal trainers to help her master her intensely physical performance. She also trained with Keanu Reeves, who was preparing for John Wick, Chapter 2. Yeah. This, and actually, the director was very involved in both John Wick movies, so it kind of makes sense. The movie is based on Anthony Johnson and Sam Hart's graphic novel, The Coldest City, which revolves around a spy who has to find a list of double agents who are being a smuggled into the West. David Leach's first solo credit as director as I said before
Starting point is 01:39:35 after co-directing John Wick with Chad Stahelsky. So Atomic Blind, Alfonso, you want to get it started? Sure, I was looking forward to this movie. Just from that alone, one of the co-directors from the first John Wick and this would be a solo one.
Starting point is 01:39:53 So I was looking forward to that. And Charlie Steyron is so easy on the eye, so the end of the problem there. I love it. I love it. Just a little bit. I love their Asperiosa and Mad Max Fier Road. So she's just one of those actresses to do everything.
Starting point is 01:40:06 I mean, to have eight trainers, and she was really involved. I mean, in Fierreux, she's only got one arm and she's kicking ass. So imagine her with two arms, you know, and high heels and a bungee cord and some guns. And you believe it. I mean, she's in those scenes. I mean, there's some long takes where you see her in the action and you see her do it. And it's amazing. And so a lot of credit for her.
Starting point is 01:40:27 and I seen some of the training videos where she's doing some of the training and she's fully into it and like just taking the guys all the stunman out's for drinks afterwards because she fell back. Someone were taking some real big bumps and taking them out to drinks. The movie, the movie, for me, it really worked. I just like a cool revenge flick. I just like a cool, like a heroin. And the soundtrack was 80s full 80 bangers. So I automatically love that. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:53 And James McIvoy, he's one of those members to actors, When he shows up to, he just kind of seals scenes when he's in there. And some other characters like John Guman in there, too. So the action, like, that's what was pushing the trailers, right? It's top-notch. It's just, like, you know, the guy from John Wick, and it's just going to be like that. So a lot of times people didn't like it when it's time to slow down. And to me, I didn't like it just because it looked like just really amazing, just the way it looked for, like, an action movie.
Starting point is 01:41:23 Because I like good action movies. I like bad action movies where it's just like, you know, it's just, there's some cool, fight scenes, but the movie's just terrible. This just looked like, like, the director had like a, or maybe it was a cinematographer, I don't know what it was, but they were very confident in like the look of it with the cool neon and just a look. It had that said John Wickfield like
Starting point is 01:41:39 in the nightclub scene and then the moments with like, there's some unique shots where like her going into the bathtub from overhead underneath and the scenes with So like Tatella like, oh, Jesus Christ, like, and then the theater get hot when I was in there or what? I mean, I didn't throw the AC on because I was like, this shit's going going to happen. I was like, oh my goodness. I'm like,
Starting point is 01:41:55 it's happening. You're like, all right, let's do this, you know? You've got the, you've already got the mail in here watching the movie, you know, if you got her shooting guns, and then you get that scene, you're like, okay, it's old, right? So some people say, got a little complicated, all the two many characters and everything involved, and I can get that, I can see that if you're not really paying attention or if you go
Starting point is 01:42:13 really late at night, you might miss some things, you know, you've got the list. So I, I understand that the great, but I don't understand why the people, some people didn't really like it. I don't know. I, for me, I was entertained the whole time and the action when the action comes in, especially that one in the survey scene, fucking forget about it. That's one of the best action scenes in the last 10 years. I mean,
Starting point is 01:42:32 that scene alone is forth the price of the mission right there. So I had a good time with this movie. Yeah, I also had a good time with this movie. I thought Charlie's she brought it in this movie 100%. And there are videos online if you guys, if anybody wants to check out her training for this movie. She is really serious about what she's doing. And it shows to me in this movie. And I thought the cast was good. James McAvoy, of course. You got John Goodman in there. Lance, you brought up Bill Scarsguard earlier that he shows up in this. Yeah, I didn't expect to see him. Yeah, I totally liked the story. And I like where it went near the end. And, you know, we'll get into that later. Sure. And overall, I brought, I brought my son with me to this movie, and he fully loved it because I recently just, uh,
Starting point is 01:43:25 showed him John Wick, so he is full on. Oh, cool. With this style of action, and we had a good time. I'm asking. Sorry? 16. Okay. Nice.
Starting point is 01:43:35 Okay. So I was going to say, you're fine. You cover the eyes for in that scene? Yeah, you know, you're good. He's good. He's good. Yeah, I, uh, I'm, I'm really glad that I didn't watch this one with my mom. No, I, uh, I think, uh, I think, uh, James McEvoy might,
Starting point is 01:43:55 be my favorite actor right now. That dude is fucking amazing. I think Charlize Theron is going to go down on history as one of the greatest actresses. She was awesome. I love that style of action. This like realistic
Starting point is 01:44:12 fucking fight scenes that they have in this which they pulled from the John Wick thing, you know? And part of why I love that movie so much. I've really enjoyed it. Is it, is it John Wick chapter two? No. But
Starting point is 01:44:29 listen, this was a fun fucking movie to watch, man. And yeah, plot tornado at the end. I don't, I don't think that's necessarily a spoiler, but some weird shit happens and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. And
Starting point is 01:44:44 uh, Charlie's Theron kicked some serious ass in some high heels and that scene that she had with Sophia Botella. Oh, my God. That was over the top in the best way possible. I'm not mad at it, dude. I really enjoyed myself, kind of the whole time. I don't know what else to say about it. It was pretty
Starting point is 01:45:14 kick-ass. Yeah, it was, for me, it was, I like the way that it started out and I like the way that it ended. And that one scene that you guys are talking about in the stairway is like, There's no doubt. It's like one of the top five action scenes of the last 10 years. It's going to be remembered for a long time. And it's very, very realistic, kind of like John Wick was. I don't remember who it was. I think it was, Jack was on the show with us on that one. Is that right? Yes. Yeah, and he was talking about that you could literally count how many bullets he would fire before he had to reload. Like, that was the level of realism they were going for. And I felt that with this one.
Starting point is 01:45:55 Because she's not one of those, like, heroes that would just, like, hit you and then, like, bounce back and, you know, they wouldn't touch her. And she'd still had a perfectly beautiful face and no, you know, no bruises, no cuts. No, she got down and she got dirty. And she actually, you know, not to give too much away, but she actually, you know, there were a few minutes, moments there where I was wondering if she, how the fuck she was going to get out of the situation that she was in. And that just added realism to it. But at the end of the day, I mean, there were a few parts in the middle for me where the story got real convoluted and it's really slowed down. And that kind of pulled me out of it for about a half an hour of the two hours of the movie. McAvoy, not his best performance.
Starting point is 01:46:38 I thought he's been in some better performances than this. Goodman was just kind of taking up space, in my opinion. Sophia Bata has had much better roles, the Mummy, not being one of them, but definitely it's better roles than this. So, I don't know. I mean, at the end of the day, um, it's some absolute fucking standout moments in the movie. But all in all, you know,
Starting point is 01:47:00 not, not my favorite action movie the year, but, you know, it is what it is. You guys ready for scores? Absolutely. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:47:09 let's do it. All right. Uh, Fanzo? Yeah, I'm going to give this, uh, a 7.5. You're like, yeah. Not bad. No? Yeah, dude.
Starting point is 01:47:20 You know what? I think I'm right. right there with you. I'm going to give it a 7.5. I thought the action held up well enough. It did, it did slow down there in the middle, but overall, I enjoyed it. I'm going to give it. I'm having a hard time deciding between 8 and 8.5. I think I'll go 8 because, yeah, it did definitely slow down,
Starting point is 01:47:46 but I loved the action. I loved the action, and it was super cool. And then I'll get into it in spoilers. Yeah, well, I'm going seven. I mean, the whole movie I was thinking, okay, this is like a five and a half six, five and a half six, five and a half six. And then when it got into that one fight scene, I'm like, okay, it just fucking went through the roof. At the end of the day, it's a strong seven for me. So I think all four of us would highly recommend checking the movie out for sure. Oh, yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 01:48:17 You won't regret it. It's fun. Absolutely. All right. Spoiler time. Yeah. Let's do it. This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
Starting point is 01:48:25 You've been fucking warned. This is a motherfucking spoiler alert. You've been fucking warned. This is a motherfucking spoiler alert. You've been fucking warned. All right. Who wants to bring something up first? I think I'll start it out.
Starting point is 01:48:41 After watching Charlie's kick ass in this movie, it really makes me wish she had more to do in the fate of the furious. Right. Other than, I mean, I know she's supposed to be a. computer hacker, but she does have the scene where she's showing Vin Diesel all her guns and knives. And it just made me think back to, I wish she had more to do in that movie. And I also wish they had Sophia Batella do more in this movie, because she was kind
Starting point is 01:49:08 of whiny. And she cried about only being in this line of business for a year. And she didn't think it was going to be like this. And she started crying. And I was like, I don't want to see Sophia Bettella, you know, we saw her in the mummy. Right. Wasn't great.
Starting point is 01:49:24 But I think everybody can probably say she was one of the best parts of that movie. Sure. And then she kicked ass into Kingsman. And I think she was just kind of wasted in this movie. Yeah, she's underused for sure. Under years, big time. I completely disagree. I thought she was great.
Starting point is 01:49:40 I mean, I mean, you can distract you from that one scene. Aside from that, aside from that scene. Yeah. And one more thing. And the other scene where she's walking around with the Walkman, like hooked to her underwear. Oh, okay. We'll throw that in there too.
Starting point is 01:49:56 This girl kills me. Charlize Theron, the other scene I like was the scene, the second time she fought the one guy with the blonde hair, the guy she stabbed in the face with the keys. Oh, yeah. I thought that was a... What a hardcore son of a bitch.
Starting point is 01:50:13 I love that the... I love that that fight they had after the stairway scene because they were just, giving it to each other to the point where they had a moment where they just kept getting up and staggering back and falling back down and I really enjoyed the realness
Starting point is 01:50:31 because in other action movies, somebody would have just jumped up after taking a meeting, but they're like... Exactly what I wanted to bring up. Like, if you ever been a real fucking fight, man, you get tired, man. And it's like, sometimes it's just
Starting point is 01:50:47 two people lumbering around and throwing whatever the fuck they can. Because you can't, you know. Remember how tired they were in that alleyway? Oh, yeah. For sure, with the sunglasses. How long that fight went? Right.
Starting point is 01:50:57 I love how real it was. They were both fucking white and just, you know, slinging whatever they could out and expending every bit of energy. And I love that they had that scene, you know, where they're both, like, kind of staggering back and forth and they can't. Like, they're too tired to stand up straight. Yeah. I saw an interview with the director or one of the stuntmen's where they were saying were, like, Yeah, if one hit would take Charlize down because, you know, a man's going to be a little stronger than a woman, they're going to knock it down. So she needs to use more things around her.
Starting point is 01:51:28 So if the guy punches her once, she'll need to punch them two or three times. Or she'll have to use the, like, the freezer door and the fridge or the pot. You know, she's using things around her to help her out. Yeah. Makes sense with that realism you guys are referring to. And that's not sexist. It's fucking real. No, yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:45 No, that's just what they're saying. I mean, exactly. Yeah. No, I mean, yeah. I mean, I wouldn't get in the ring with her. She'd kick my ass. Oh, yeah. I mean, I wouldn't mind going around or two just, you know, I'll tap out.
Starting point is 01:51:57 Just for the story. How did you guys feel about the couple swerves they threw in at the end? Oh, the plot twist? Yeah. I loved it. I loved the way they set it all up. I mean, you guys understood what was going on, right, Philip? Okay, so I get that James McAvoy, they kind of had set up.
Starting point is 01:52:19 Just because he killed. old her lover. So that was part of a revenge thing. Right. So I like that, well, now was he the one that did it or not? No. No, she was the double agent the whole time, but
Starting point is 01:52:35 she was actually playing the Russians. She was like pretending to be a double agent. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But then she was playing everybody because at the end you found she was actually going old school all the way back, an American agent. She was part of the CIA from the very beginning. And the British
Starting point is 01:52:51 just assumed she was a British citizen and made her a spy. So if you go all the way back to, she started out as an American spy. So who gave up the guy at the very beginning? That was Joaquin Phoenix, right? Was that Joaquin Phoenix? He was in this movie? Was it? I don't know. The dude with a fucking mustache that died at the very beginning?
Starting point is 01:53:19 He looked like Joaquin Phoenix. I'm looking. It's funny here because of here with it. No, I got to. All right. So who gave him up? I got to think about that. Alfonso,
Starting point is 01:53:32 did you catch that? Yeah, I'm trying to think right now, too, because I'm on a comedian. That kind of goes over everything. I think McAvoy was just trying to keep everything balanced so he could stay there. Right.
Starting point is 01:53:43 And keep living alive. Yeah, because he said he loved Berlin. Yeah, he did a lot of rush to leave. Yeah, she was the one. Yeah, she was the one. one that was the double agent. I can't remember what the name was at this particular moment. Satchel.
Starting point is 01:53:58 So is she the one that gave him up? Quite possibly. Yeah, as part of the bigger picture? I could see that. I mean, it's a movie that deserves another viewing for sure, because there was a lot going on in here. Yeah, there was a couple of things that I was like, wait a minute. Wait, is he what happened here?
Starting point is 01:54:19 And it all kind of happened right at the end there, you know? Yeah, I think the only thing that you could really, that I believe was true with her, was her love affair with Sophia Bautela's character. Yes. Yeah. I believe that. But I think everything else, she was just playing everybody. Yeah, I think you're right. And that's kind of what it was.
Starting point is 01:54:41 Yeah, because here, yeah, I'm here Wikipedia. They mentioned her the Triple Agent. So it says here, like, in present day, Lorraine presents MI6 with the photographs as well as plays all your recordings. Penin Percival as a traitor and denies knowing the list's current whereabouts, forcing the agency to close the case. Three days later, she meets with Bremovich in Paris, revealing herself to be satchel. Lorraine gives him a fake list, but Bremovich admits he knows she set him up. Lorraine kills his henchment and reveals she was manipulating events from the very beginning before killing him. She then meets Kurzfeld, revealing herself to be a mole, more specifically, a triple agent,
Starting point is 01:55:19 planted by the CIA before returning with him to Langley. And I don't understand the point of it either. Okay, so was it just that U.S. was trying to get a hold of this list? And if that's the case, then why in the hell did she kill James McAvoy? And I accept to accept him up as a patsy, you know? Well, he did kill Sophia Batella. Yeah, that's true, too. And like Lance said, I do believe that was genuine, she had genuine feelings for her.
Starting point is 01:55:49 Yeah. Because you can tell when she's, yeah, when the interrogation scene when it gets to that part of talking about it, you can tell she's like a little. Yeah, I kind of, I think I need to watch it again just to grasp the concept. These ones watch that scene again.
Starting point is 01:56:02 Well, yeah. And again. And again, and again, with the VHL and stop working. Right. Why does this one have track marks out of it? I don't know that one. Old school, dude.
Starting point is 01:56:15 Back in 1989, huh? But, When I watch it again, it's probably going to be the last time that I watch it. Okay, I've seen John Wick chapter two like four times now. And I still fucking love it every time. So, I mean, does this hold up to that? Not a chance. But it's still, I think, a really cool, fun action movie.
Starting point is 01:56:38 I love the way that they used the music in it. It was a little 80s poppy instead of... Sure. 80s in general, you know? Like, they... Right. They stuck real heavy on that pop side, which makes sense because it was kind of a club scene. They did that one public enemy song.
Starting point is 01:56:56 Yeah, I guess it's true. But. They had one clash song, London's calling. That's right. Yeah, that was cool, too. I still think they did great with the music and just kick-ass action. I just, I don't know if it holds up to the John Wick side of things. Right.
Starting point is 01:57:18 That's kind of what I was trying to hold it up to as well. Especially since I knew in advance from getting the trivia stuff together that the director had worked on the WIC movies. So I was really, you know, really expecting something. But I wasn't disappointed. You know, I'm definitely glad I went to see it at the theater. Yeah. Could we see a crossover?
Starting point is 01:57:40 Well, that's what I was wondering if it was in the same universe, you know? Yeah. Actually, we were going to talk about this a little bit next week. but they are building a universe based off John Wick and the whole continental and all that. So you never know. They could slip this in there. You know, she could be showing up as an older version of her character later on.
Starting point is 01:58:04 Could be interesting. I'm sure they will. The fucking emoji movie did better. Oh, my God. Are you serious? And that movie has a zero percent on Rotten Tomato. That's what's insane. It's a Friday estimate,
Starting point is 01:58:16 Sabbath at 10 million, and Dunnics at 8 and Atomics at 7. So this weekend ain't over yet. That's not a good sign. Yeah. But I like the kids movies. I enjoy going to see them with the kids, you know? Same here.
Starting point is 01:58:28 That one looks so fucking dumb. So bad. Yeah. Yeah. Even with... Even with Patsy movie's voice. Yeah. The Tapplica scene in that movie.
Starting point is 01:58:40 Yeah. It just seems lazy, right? If he's climbed a little pile of poop, I don't give a shit. Yeah. All right, well, is there anything else you guys want to mention on this one before we shut it down? I think we covered it, I think. All right. Staron and Sadella are hot.
Starting point is 01:58:58 All right, before we talk about what we're doing next week, Alfonso, where can we hear your stuff, man? Yeah, if you just go to bad boys'podcast.com, all the links are there and take you to SoundCloud. We're also on iTunes. You can check us out there. And then on Facebook, too, you like our Facebook page. and we really appreciate it. Thank you guys for having so much fun. I love to have any of you guys on our podcast whenever you guys feel like it.
Starting point is 01:59:24 It would be amazing. It would be a good time. You know, just do the same thing. We just talk movies and have a good time. You also have a YouTube channel, don't you? Oh, yeah, I do. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, thank you.
Starting point is 01:59:40 Yeah, my latest adventure, I was at Comic-Con. So everything I did at Comic-Con, you can see there on my channel is Fonzo 13. and my last video was of a comic on adventure and one of my highlights. May I just say I'm a little bit jealous that you took a picture with Alicia Malone. I kind of have a thing for her. I don't know if it's that red hair in that Australian accent. Telling you go in her eyes too. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:00:05 Her and Montguerner, too. Sorry, you know, they were both there, so I had to. Yeah. She's the best, like her. And I always try, I went into Great Drake. Oh, yeah, yeah. She's hilarious. I bought her a drink.
Starting point is 02:00:16 I missed her this one, but the last four years, I've ran into her. In fact, in my last Comic-Com video, she's there, and she's the best, too. But at least Malo, yeah, when she was there at the Screen Junkies event, and she was walking out, I had to say hi to take a picture, and yeah, she's awesome. But just to see Outcast, like, you know, I saw Big Boy at the party, at one of the parties, and I go, if I'll never get to see Outcast, but if I could see one member of Outcast, there'd be enough for me, and he threw the roof off. I mean, there was no roof because it was on the roof of the hard rock.
Starting point is 02:00:48 But if you guys are familiar with Outcast music, I mean, they're just party anthems. And they're great. And then just to hearing them live, oh, so good. So I got a bunch of videos, a couple of videos of that too. Yeah, everybody checked those out. I appreciate that. Thank you. And I also go to horror movie conventions too, since this is a horror podcast.
Starting point is 02:01:05 In September, I'm going to go see. I'm going to go to Son of Montepalooza, which is kind of like Texas Frightmare. But I think you guys have a little better guests than we do sometimes. So I'm kind of jealous about that. So I saw you guys' interviews, and then the guests they had there was pretty awesome. So I'd love to go down there one time. But it's the same thing. It's just a smaller version of Monster Paloza, which is more based on special effects.
Starting point is 02:01:29 But they do get a lot of guests. And this last one, they had Robert England and had the Landcamp and Manuille. So that was just for me, that was great to give my nightmare on the street poster sign because that's one of my favorite horror moves of all time. All right, nice. In fact, this Thursday, I'm going to go see a screening of a bright-up. of Chucky and seat of Chucky. It was supposed to be cult of Chucky, but apparently
Starting point is 02:01:49 if a movie comes out on DVD, you can't play it in the theater. What? So, yeah, it's a weird thing. So they had to play. He was going to do a double feature of Bride and Cult, but apparently since it went to the TV, you can't do that. Oh, that sucks, man. Yeah, the guy's curating.
Starting point is 02:02:04 Yeah, the guy's curing, he's going to have dominance seating Jennifer Tilly there. Wow. And I have a Chucky doll signed by Tom Holland and Alex Vincent, so I'm waiting, hopefully get some more signatures on that doll. with the mem so that's going to be on Thursday so hopefully get pictures with them here pretty soon so I'm so I'm excited about that so yeah it's funny I was on that horror podcast I get to talk horrors I just had to mention my little horse up there awesome yeah well that's cool yeah I'm down to fire here man we'll we'll put you up with you for sure man I yeah like I
Starting point is 02:02:34 say when's the next one it's coming up right here yeah it's always it's always in early May and actually now that you now that you mention it if you go to their website Texas Frightmare, and if you check out, I think it's on the 6th, August 6th, they're going to be announcing everything. So they'll announce all the guests. They'll open the hotel, the actual hotel there, they'll open it up for people to check in. So if you want to stay at the hotel where the convention's actually going on, you can do that if you jump in really fast and you can also buy your tickets. So all that's coming up on August the 6th. Are you guys going again?
Starting point is 02:03:12 Oh, hell yeah. Nice. Did you guys get a hotel? Did you guys live close to it? Or did you get a hotel? We got a hotel, but I think this time we're going to try to actually stay there. Oh, yeah, definitely. Yeah, we stayed in a couple of different places close by, but it's not the same, man.
Starting point is 02:03:27 Yeah. Brian's coming down. Oh, nice. You are? Finally going on. No, I'm not going to say try. I'm coming. I'm definitely coming.
Starting point is 02:03:35 Will you guys do a live episode from there? Oh, yeah, for sure. We're thinking about doing some things, maybe starting a YouTube channel, something. And, you know. Oh, very cool. Yeah, absolutely. We'll do a couple of things for sure. But, man, we appreciate you being on the show.
Starting point is 02:03:52 You know, obviously, we're going to check out your podcast and encourage our listeners too as well. Now, you said it's it's Bad Boys Podcast Network. Is that right? Like, what's the actual thing? Oh, it's just Bad Boyspodcast.com. Okay, you guys are on iTunes, right? Yeah, because there's a lot of bad boys on there. But, yeah, because I think there's a bad boys one.
Starting point is 02:04:13 but I think we're the bad boys. The bad boys. Because on our website it's just bad boys podcast.com, but I believe on the iTunes, it's like, yeah. All right. If you see the TVPC logo, I appreciate that. Thank you. Yeah, we'll put some links on the podcast notes
Starting point is 02:04:30 that we're putting up this week for sure. Okay. So they'll be able to find it. Yeah, we'll definitely, one, two or three of us will like to be on your show in the next week or two if that's good. We'll definitely work that out. That'd be great, thank you.
Starting point is 02:04:42 And I'll get with you on the side for that. So, uh... Anyway, I want to thank you guys for listening to another episode of The Horror Returns. You guys know where to find us. And next week, our good friend Jay Black is coming on with us again. We're going to talk about, uh, the Dark Tower, as well as the Shining. Uh, so until the Horror returns again. Buenos Natchos.
Starting point is 02:05:05 I've already used that, but I was going to do it again.
