in horror
All right so here we are again at the horror returns
Thank you guys for joining us

Brian what's that all about man
Yeah a good friend of the show
Steve from the League of Geeks
hooked us up with a new intro
and like the
really give you our appreciation and thanks man it's awesome way to go steve
right on steve keep it green all right it takes it takes a village so uh we're all here
we got philip we got lance we got brian and the nez is back
oh well look dude now hold on man you've you've dominated my entire week of podcast listening
man, because you didn't have anything for three or four weeks,
and then you got three, if not four,
that you put out this week or something, right?
Yeah, we dropped three of them.
But those of you that do listen to my solo one,
I got a new interface, so I'm still messing with it,
trying to figure it out.
And when it was just me on the mic by myself,
only the audio came out like on the left side.
and all the interviews I did on it came out fine, but that one thing did.
I guess I was glad I didn't talk too long, so, but I couldn't figure out what I did, man.
It pissed me off.
I tried it and uploaded it like three or four times, and it kept coming out the same.
Yeah.
Other than that, I was in my car, so I never really noticed it, man.
Okay.
Well, those of you that listen to it with the earbuds or whatever, sorry.
Oh, sorry.
I'm still coughing if you're listening to the show getting over my cold, but I'm good, man.
Everything's good.
E-society, we dropped two of them because, yeah, we did take a long break, and we threw out two this week.
Wait a minute.
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
What about the E-Society Star Wars special?
What?
Was that a third one, or was that?
Because I thought you did that one and two other E-Society for some reason.
No, we never did.
We never did one.
The movie came out.
We were supposed to do it, but it's just Christmas and all that got in the way.
And we finally sat down and did it.
All right.
It was three hours of goodness.
So I hope you guys listened to it.
I'm worried if you have the flu.
Do you have the flu?
No.
I'm over everything.
This cough won't go away.
I don't trust you.
No flu here.
This is no flu zone.
Is it hot?
down there? Yeah, it's pretty hot today.
It finally did. Yeah, it's sort of warmed up. It's like 70-ish.
Yeah. It was 79 the other day.
Last week when I was in Mansfield, it was nice and 60 when I got there, then it dropped to 20.
And it was freezing rain and everything.
Yeah, we keep bouncing back and forth down here. Texas weather never can decide what it wants to do, though.
Yep. I'm sure it's not as cold as you are, Brian.
We're nice and toasty 22 degrees.
Woo!
You don't do it.
You don't even need a heater.
All right, Kev, you want to get to your cool of the week, man?
I think we got a lot to talk about tonight.
I'm pretty sure you guys mentioned this, the ritual.
Did you guys see that?
Yes.
I didn't. I haven't seen it yet.
I made a Zee's to watch it because he's not a horror.
horror movie watchers, so
we both watched it,
and I enjoyed it.
Maybe not as much as him.
It was a good movie, man.
I mean, I liked it.
I was kind of surprised.
I didn't watch no trailers.
I didn't read into it.
Some listeners were like, hey, man,
are you going to do the ritual?
And I was like, well, what's that?
And then someone told me it was on Netflix.
I was all right, so we both sat down and watched it,
and I loved it.
I thought it was an awesome film.
Yeah.
I mean, without spoiling it, what's the basic premise?
Something bad happens in the beginning, and then it gets crazy, and then into more badness.
But I really want to give it away.
I'm going to go with that one.
That may be the best review of the year.
I'm going to just say, after all the shitty shit, the horror movies we've seen, it's the best horror movie so far.
Oh, yes.
I'm glad to hear that, man.
Where did you find it?
Is it on Netflix?
It's on Netflix.
Yeah, it's Netflix original.
Okay.
Shit.
I'll check it out.
Yeah, probably better than the Cloverfield paradox, I'm guessing.
No, that was hell of good.
Nah, come on, dude, I saw it.
What's with that fucking, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Well, we don't, we can spoil it a little.
I like that guy.
What's with that appendage that was writing shit on the ground without being attached to anything?
My fucking arm.
It was a cystic, them.
What I, I mean, we talked about on East Society, but what I loved about it is that it, to me, it answered my questions.
that I had from the first movie and the second movie.
I don't have no idea where it's going to go with this fourth movie.
I hear World War II time, but I, okay, I'll see what they do, what they do.
And the fifth one, I have no idea where that's going to go.
Right.
But I just did, this movie did leave it up to more questions that I got.
Because at the very end, if you've seen it, the very, very end, I was like, wait, what?
And then it was over.
So, I mean, I don't want to do it.
It is fairly new to everyone.
That was my problem.
The very end of it, I was like, where did that come from?
Why did we not see more of that shit?
That's what makes a Cloverfield movie.
Yeah, it only got 30 seconds of it, right?
But that's typical with the Cloverfield.
Ten seconds of it.
Yeah.
Hey, Kevin.
Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry, man. Go ahead.
No, I wanted way more of that.
I mean, they kept teasing it.
They teased it in the trailer.
Yeah.
And I was like, oh, sweet.
I mean, especially during the Super Bowl.
That's what they made it seem like it was going to be that big monster.
And I was like, okay, we're in space.
And then it just got crazy from there.
Maybe in the next one, right?
I hope so.
Hey, Kevin, but if you don't mind, man, I know it's not really a horror movie.
But tell us a little bit.
I heard you talk about a movie that sounded like, because I've been on kind of a Western kick a little bit.
But it sounded really good.
Tell us about hostiles, man.
that movie was really depressing and just
it was just a rough time
I want to say it was after the Civil War
and after
Custer's last stand because they do mention that
and it was just
when I seen the trailer I thought it was to me being Native American
I thought it was just going to be just
okay cowboys and Indians we're going to
These are the bad guys.
The Indians are the bad guys.
And we're just going to go with that.
Right.
I was kind of worried that they were going to return to the old stereotypical Cowboys and Indians type of movie.
That's just what I got from the trailer.
But when I saw it, it just totally blew me away on what it was.
I mean, I said it on E-Society.
Right now at 2018, Hostels is my number one movie of the year.
I loved it.
I laughed.
I cried.
And it was just an all-around just.
amazing film. Christian Bale, he's good
and everything he does.
And this, there's just another
notch in his belt.
And West Dutie, amazing
actor. He was
the chief that was in the
movie. It was basically,
Christian Bale had to take
West Dutie's character and his family
to back to their home.
And, because he was
dying of cancer. And that was
his orders. Like, hey,
we have him in prison. He's
dying, we need to get rid of them, you need
to take them over there for your last mission.
And Christian Bail was like, I don't want to do that
because I hate these people.
And I've killed millions of them,
women and children. They didn't show
any of this. They kept talking about it.
But it was just their story
of from leaving their military
outpost trying to get back to the reservation
to drop West Dutie off
and his family. And just the stuff that went
along with that
along the way was like, oh my God,
it was just. I was
only one sitting in the theater, so
the tears were flowing.
But, oh man, it was an amazing film.
If you guys haven't seen it, do you check it out?
I've heard good things.
I love westerns.
Hey, so, Brian,
Brian, I think you're not so cool of the week
might have been your theater experience for Black Panther.
Hell, yeah.
Why does that not surprise me?
Oh, my God.
Well, first, let me say,
it started out with my movie pass.
I did the update on my app
I went there
Right
It pulled up my theater
Pulled up my showtime
But it would not allow me to check in
Because it says I need to be
Within 100 yards of the theater
Right
Mind you, I'm standing in the theater
Oh
Well that counts
So I had to
I had to pay out of pocket
Oh no
And then I had the
The worst thing
When you get a movie pass, right?
And yeah
And then me and my wife
Thought we would avoid the crowds
By going to the
two o'clock afternoon showing.
Didn't happen? No.
And everybody brought their kids, which these kids should have been in school.
And I had kids running through aisles, running in and out the theater.
Then there was a minute where security came in and was kind of like walking through the crowd.
And they got me kind of feeling a little iffy.
I thought I was going to have to grab my wife and get out of there.
I was like, you know, somebody have a gun in here or something.
What's going on?
No.
And yeah, it was, it almost ruined my experience with the movie.
Oh, boy.
Well, hopefully you were allowed to actually see the movie so you can give a decent review.
You've got the shittiest theaters in America.
No, last week.
Every week, man, there's a new theater story from you.
Yeah, and I try to go different times.
I'm like, okay, it happened this time last week, so let me go a different day.
No. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to pick a different theater.
That's funny.
Wow. Shit.
I don't really have a cool of the week this week.
No, you're kidding.
I think maybe my cool of the week was watching Sean White win the gold medal.
There you go.
That was pretty kick-ass.
Aside from that, I watched Black Panther and Blade.
Oh, no, I did watch It Stains the Sands Red.
Yeah?
You checked it out.
Yeah, and it was great.
It had so many twists and turns that you didn't really see coming.
And I thought it was a really well-done movie.
And not like Oscar-winning artsy-farty well-done movie,
like well-done movie where you can watch it and it was really fun to watch.
It actually made sense.
Yeah, like I really enjoyed this one.
It was great, man.
I was super impressed.
I can understand why it's on some top five list from a lot of,
a lot of our people. Oh, badass. That's worth checking out. Yeah, definitely.
All right. Phil up. Yes, sir. I got a question for you. Being in the military, going back to
Sean White, it was kind of a big thing that was on the news. When he was celebrating and when he
was unfolding the flag and it scraped the ground, did you get mad and not want to watch the Olympics again?
Oh, Jesus, no, that's dumb.
I thought it was, especially in the age that we're in now,
where things are almost anti-American,
I loved that he was in tears and crying
and draped the flag over his back
and just, like, wept with joy that he finally got that.
I thought it was great.
It made me proud to be an American again.
because everyone like slipped out it like barely
hit the ground a few seconds if that it's not like he threw it on the ground and stepped on it
but everyone made it seem like he drug it down the mountain while he was snowboarding
man i never even heard about this facebook bitches man quit
finding shit to get mad about okay just relax
let it be i thought it was dumb that they brought up his whole like i he
They ran into some sort of indiscretion that happened.
I mean, I don't know the extenses of it or whatever,
but some indiscretion that happened years and years and years ago
and it has already been settled,
and some reporter asked him about it.
And now that's all I see the news stories about,
is Sean White had some sort of sexual misconduct bullshit.
And I think that's dumb.
Yeah, I read that too as well.
But, I mean, just, I mean, right,
it was seconds after.
he had won what we saw on TV
and I went on Facebook
and I was all happy I posted his last run
because that was a glorious run
that was amazing. Yeah.
And then all in the comments was
just, oh my God, the flag
touched the ground. I'm never watching the Olympics
again. Wow, that is
terrible. That's some dumb shit
from the other side too, man.
I'll tell you one thing. Maybe it's Russian
meddling. I'll tell you
one thing. If I was Sean
White in his position,
And with his fame, there'd be more than just a few sexual indiscretions.
Believe me.
I would imagine.
Plus, he was in a band when it happened.
Oh, come on.
The guy's not only a gold medal fucking winning snowboarder.
How much cooler can you get?
Oh, yeah, he's also in a rock band.
Basically, he's a pussy magnet that looks like carrot top.
Yeah.
All right, I'm moving on.
I'm moving on to my cool of the week, if you guys don't mind.
Are you saying Caratop is not
Episemagnet?
He probably is.
You seeing how buff that guy is?
I know, right?
That dude hits a gun.
Yeah, yeah.
Caratop is buff now, isn't he?
All right, well, I was,
we almost had a first ever three week in a row
cool of the week, guys.
Almost.
It was this close.
Because altered carbon
is fucking blowing my mind, dude.
It's so good.
Episode after episode.
Kevin, you weren't as high on it,
were you?
I have not watched it
Theo's watching it
and he's kind of like
eh
you know
kind of good
kind of bad
right
I think it's just not
his
cup of tea
he watches
he watches
he watches a ton of stuff
and I mean
I try to watch
what he watches
I mean I love him to death
and he knows that
and I always
I always give him shit
if it's something
that he loves
that I don't
but
I don't know
I eventually want to see it
I've heard many people
saying it was good
I've read all kinds of good
things I just haven't actually sat down and watched it yet.
Is it slow?
No, it's not slow at all, dude.
No, it's super.
It's not like Blade Runner slow?
No, no.
Yeah, I think it is kind of set in the Blade Runner universe.
Right, that makes sense.
Because if you look at the special effects and the way the buildings are set up and the way the
groups of people are, walking around with umbrellas and stuff like that.
Blade Runner takes forever to get going.
Like, you can't be doing other shit while you're watching it.
You'll enjoy this, I think.
Okay.
But as you guys know, I told you I've been watching two episodes a week, and I've checked out two more this week.
And the sixth one was just fucking phenomenal.
It's called Man with My Face.
Nice.
So you can switch bodies.
So imagine if you met yourself in a fighting situation where you had to fight for your life against the body that you used to inherit that you used to look in the mirror every day.
Oh.
It's a trip.
It's really awesome.
And it really scratched that, that episode really scratched that blood-dry bitch that I've been missing lately.
Okay.
Because it was so over the top.
Brian, you checked it out yet?
I'm done with the series.
Oh, cool.
All right.
What are you thinking, man?
I love the series.
And those of you who are not all the way in on this, yeah, I think, Lance, you're right.
When you get to about episode six or seven, I think you'll be fully in on this.
If, you know, just hang around.
But, yeah, I loved it.
I don't want to give too much away because you're not to finish with it.
but if they do more seasons, I'm all the way in.
That is.
Is it better than World?
Is it better than what?
Westworld.
That's tough, dude.
It's different in Westworld.
Yeah.
I'm talking about some big names in Westworld.
It's not as cerebral.
It's a much easier.
And I like that.
I appreciate the fact that the story is very easy to follow.
It's not this.
Jim Knight Shilin, bullshit.
It's a straightforward story.
He follows the trail.
He's trying to solve this guy's murder, basically, or attempted murder.
And, I mean, it's, I never feel like I'm lost when I'm watching it.
I always feel like I'm keeping up with the story, which is nice.
Okay.
That answered a lot of questions for me right there.
But it did get overshadowed by the finale of Star Trek Discovery.
Unfortunately, I can't say a single word about it, because I don't want to spoil it for anybody.
I know a lot of people are behind because they're waiting to get the all access just for like the free trial.
Good though?
And check them off.
Dude, the finale blew me away.
Wow.
Yeah.
Now it is my Star Trek.
Oh, finally.
All right.
100% on board.
When is this in the timeline?
It is about 10 years before Captain Kirk and his crew set off.
Oh.
Yeah.
So it's really close.
So the original?
Star Trek or this new JJ Abrams one?
No, it's not in the, it's not in the J.J. Abrams universe.
It's in the television universe.
So it follows exactly 10 years before Captain Kirk from the original TV series.
Oh, that's cool. And then they bring it all together?
They're starting to bring it all together.
Yeah, well, they have to.
Yeah, but as far as I can tell, I don't see where they've really missed a beat as far as the
timeline. That's cool. And that's hard to do with Star Trek.
Yeah.
Because the, I mean, trust me, Trekkies will, if you get something fucked up or different from the true history, they'll call you out on it.
And I haven't seen anything yet that's been off.
So they're doing a really good job of keeping it in universe.
Star Trek and Star Wars, man.
Yeah, good.
Yeah, I'm happy with it.
So I can check it out, everybody.
Speaking of JJ Abrams' universe and we just talked about Cloverfield, did you realize,
there's all kinds of
like Easter eggs
and everything
he's done that links
everything he's done together
like lost and fringe and
force of weapons and starch
I have no idea what you're talking about
man I'll
I'll find this I watched this video on
YouTube and this one dude broke it
down we need a link
and I was like whoa
okay I mean I don't know if they all link together
but there's stuff in everything
he's done. I want to say
even in the Mission Impossible movies, the one he directed,
there was something
that linked everything he's done
together. So that they're all
like the same universe or just
little Easter eggs that he puts in each movie?
I think it's what I got,
some people were saying it linked everything
together, but what I got out of it was
it's just, I think,
something that he does to link everything
that he's done together. I don't know
if it's all one big circle and
and it will all come together eventually.
I don't know.
I'll find that video.
I'll find that video. Thank you.
I've never heard about any of that.
So I'd be very curious to...
Couldn't have picked a better person to do it with, though.
That's like him and Steven Spielberg at this point, really?
All right, Brian.
We got any news this week?
Real quick, I had a Netflix week, so I recommend 1922, a dark song, and Super Dark Times.
I recommend all three of those movies.
Okay.
Oh, Dark Song is one of those you love it or you hate it.
I haven't watched it.
Yeah.
I dug it.
Cool.
All right.
Yes, now we can get into the news.
Hold on.
One more thing.
Did you guys, is it called Open House or whatever?
No.
I'm not going to watch it.
These guys convince me not to waste my time.
I hated it.
I hated it.
Yeah, me too.
because that was Theo's homework I gave him to watch that movie.
I haven't watched it yet.
We're going to talk about it on the Next East Society.
Oh, no.
All right.
I wish it was better tuned.
That's some shit homework.
Okay.
We talked about American gods losing its showrunner.
They've hired a new one.
Jesse Alexander, and he's worked closely with Brian Fuller on shows like Cannibal and Star Trek Discovery.
Well, okay.
Hoping for the best, man, hoping for the best.
So the apprentice has taken the reins here, huh?
Yes, and he will be working closely with Neil Gaiman, and they said that a show will be more
closer to the source material.
It's already pretty damn close to the source material.
I don't know how they could get it any closer.
Okay.
Um, from what I read, I think, uh, they had wrote about six episodes for season two and they're tossing all that out.
So maybe that's what they're talking about.
Maybe season two was kind of going off to a different direction.
I get it.
I get it.
So Gaman's kind of probably working with him and reeling it back into the actual novel, huh?
Yeah, that's what I think is going on.
Uh, season two was due, uh, January.
So it'll be quite a, uh,
Yeah, quite a while.
Okay, I got plenty of time to rewatch one then.
Yeah, it seems like everything doesn't come out until January.
Damn.
As far as TV shows.
Speaking of Brian Fuller, he was supposed to do a reboot of Amazing Stories,
which is that the rights are owned by Apple, and he has left that also.
So I don't know what he's going.
He's, don't time me down, huh?
Pretty much.
he's having a crisis
Let's see
We had a lot of movies get
Delayed here
Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron's
Alita Battle Angel
Is being pushed back
From July 20th to December 21st
Wow
That's a big push
Fucking horrible right there
Because that's putting it right around
Aquaman and the bumblebee
Transformers movie.
So say what you want, but
when it comes to putting it in
with those movies, I don't think that's
going to be the first choice for a lot of people to go see.
Probably not. Probably not.
I want to see it. I mean, I just saw the trailer, and it
looked amazing to me.
Yeah. It looked pretty cool.
Oh, quick.
One more cool. One more cool of the week
really fast. I've never seen
the first two movies, but I saw Maze Runner.
the death cure or whatever.
I thought it was an awesome film.
Oh, yeah.
I saw you posted that on Facebook,
and I'm thinking,
what the fuck?
I would totally watch that.
Is this young adult week for the Ness or what?
I liked the first couple of Maze runners, man.
Yeah, I like the first one.
I haven't seen anyone,
any of the other ones, though.
Yeah.
I mean,
they're hungry games-ish,
but they're,
I mean,
they're fun, right?
A little buddy of mine wanted to see it,
so I took him to go see it,
because he read the books,
and I was babysitting.
So he read the books and seen the first two movies, and I was like, well, I have no idea what this is.
So I just took it for what it is.
Oh, my God.
I thought it was amazing.
Now I need to watch the first two.
Well, that'll surprise you, man.
Sometimes you get a good surprise like that.
Yeah, I thought the first one was really good, man.
Go check it out.
All right.
Let's see.
More movies pushed.
The Predator got moved from August 3rd.
No.
Predator only got moved a month.
August 3rd to September 14th.
Oh,
takes it up right out of the summer movie season.
Yes.
And the nun from The Conjuring,
which is the next Spinoff movie,
July 13th, originally,
and is now being moved to September 7th.
What?
Well, that's close to October.
Yeah, I guess.
It's still a summer movie, but...
They must be in some stiff competition
during the summer this year, huh?
I must...
I mean, what are the big...
The big one's coming out besides Jurassic.
Kevin, you should know.
Didn't y'all do it?
Have y'all done your summer preview yet?
Probably not quite yet, huh?
I can't.
Isn't Mission Impossible coming out in the summer?
Probably.
Is there a Fast and Furious movie this year?
No.
I think it's next year.
Okay.
Yeah, I don't know what's in August.
Oh, Bumblebee, right?
oh July I know July is going to be
shit I don't even think that I was going to say
Ant Man in the Wasp but I think that's June so I don't know what's in July
Yes we'll find out
Deadpool's May right when is Infinity Wars is that this year
That's May that would do that's in May
That's May yeah
May is Avengers
Solo and Deadpool
Marvel ain't fucking around yeah yeah May's gonna be
Disney's gonna be a bloodbath huh at the box office he's gonna be on
top.
Battle Royale!
They're like, let me see how much
I can fuck myself.
So, let's do it.
I think the order for July
is going to be, Avengers is going to be first,
Solo is going to be second, and I think
Deadpool will be, as
far as, my opinion, as
like, fan thing.
I mean, I'm off for Solo on top, but
I don't know. We'll see, but I think Avengers
has a little more
hyped up for everyone. I think I'm
most excited about Deadpool.
I actually am too
after seeing the trailer.
That's how I can't see you, man.
And a last bit of news here.
Have you guys ever seen a short film,
Kung Fury?
Yes, of course.
Director David Sandberg,
not to be confused with David F. Sandberg,
is he's making a
feature-length sequel to his short
film, and they've already
casted Michael
Fastbender, David
Hasselhoff, and Arnold
Schwarzenegger? Yes.
I heard Clint Eastwood may be in it.
Arnold? Yes.
I heard that rumor too, so
but officially
Michael Fastbender, Schwarzenegger,
and Hasselhoff is in the movie.
Don't hassle the Hoff, man.
Speaking of Arnold, did you see
I don't know what this is, but I'm sold.
He had a movie that just came out not too
long ago. One of the dudes from
from, Taryn Killam
from Saturday Night Live, he directed
and wrote it. Oh, yeah.
Get Shorty, but like
Kill Gunther or something like that, right?
Yeah. Did you guys
see that? Uh-uh. I was
going to, but somebody
kind of told me he's only in the movie for like
five, ten minutes.
If that. Okay.
Oh, if that.
I mean, it was a chopper.
I liked it, but
Why are you putting Arnold on the cover?
He's on the cover and hardly in it.
Oh, man.
Yeah, he's like front and center on the cover, right?
Yeah.
That's the only reason that I picked it up and got home watched it,
and I was like, oh, okay.
Oh, shit.
Killing Gunther.
That's it.
Aye, aye, aye.
All right.
And on.
On that note, that is all the news.
Because he deserved to die.
What else, Kevin?
Did you guys, I don't remember what you guys talked about last week, but did you guys mention that Jimmy
Lee Curtis is finished or she wrapped all the stuff she's shooting in the new Halloween?
Oh.
Yeah, she's done.
Okay.
So I'm expecting the trailer here pretty soon because I think they might be almost done
wrapping the movie already.
so.
Cool.
What that thing was a couple weeks ago, that new picture that came out of her.
What have you, what do you guys think of it?
I didn't care for it, dude.
That's not my Jamie Lee Curtis, man.
That looked like an old witch.
But, I'm sorry, dude, I'm just.
I think it's fitting with how she would look now.
That's what I, the movie.
That's what I thought.
I mean,
Too much activity, man.
I love Jamie Lee.
But when I saw that picture and she looks how she would look now,
I mean, from back in, what was that, 79, when the first one came out.
True, true.
She's in good shape.
I don't know how old she is.
And I wouldn't say no, but I kind of like the long hair.
I mean, I love you, Jamie, with your short hair, but I'm a long hair guy.
Right.
Yeah.
I think she looked good.
All right, well, listen, Kevin, we got us a big old Jeep here, man.
Got us a Jeep and we're getting ready to jump in.
Are you with us, Kevin?
You know it.
Are you with us?
Where are we going, brother?
Where are we going?
Down to the trailer part.
Good, the bad, the weird, the big, the small, the fucked up.
What do we got this week, Brian?
First trailer we're going to talk about is YouTube.
Reds, Cobra Kai.
No, I'm just fucking with you guys.
But I know, I know Kevin,
I know we're going to be watching this show, though.
Oh, you know it.
Woo!
Is Rick Blair going to be in it?
Oh, my God.
It's the Karate Kid TV show.
Oh, my God, man.
That's finally coming out, uh?
I'm naked with butter.
Oh, my God.
I can't wait.
We got real kinky real quick.
That's what you call T-M-I.
Oh, my.
my God. I had no idea that
was coming. A buddy of mine sent me a picture
of the standoff between Johnny and
Daniel. And I was like,
what is this? I thought it was just a parody.
He was, dude, it's a trailer. Look for it. So I
found it. And oh, my
God. My nipples are hard.
I cannot
wait. My son has YouTube
bread, so I had to get his
bathroom and everything. That's
my only problem, because I don't have
YouTube bread. I had no
desire to get YouTube read.
Right.
Nor does anybody else.
You know, the only, the only people I know that have YouTube read are, like, young kids.
Right.
Because it's a lot of them, like, YouTube personalities that make TV shows.
Jake, Jake Paul and all that bullshit.
They're bringing...
I don't think he's making everything.
Look, they're painting out the bad guy to be the good guy.
They're bringing Cobra Coy back.
That's what these kids are doing it.
Oh, no, it is Ralph Baccio. You got to be kidding me.
What?
Yeah.
doing. Come on, guys.
You guys are excited
about this? I, yes.
Yes.
Yes. Shame on you. Shame on you, man.
Come on.
Ralph Monti
and Johnny's probably
in his 50s, but
oh man, I cannot wait.
Oh, wow. Okay.
It's going to be glorious.
Is it going to be like a sitcom or what?
I believe it's a 10-episode
drama.
Drama.
I don't even know what to call it, but I'm watching it.
Hell yeah.
All right.
You guys enjoy.
Hey, send me some reports back, will you?
I'll watch it as long as I don't have to get YouTube read.
Because I'm not paying for that shit.
I'm sure once it air, it'll be out there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We'll be out there.
All right.
Our first trailer.
You hear that YouTube?
Oh, go on.
Our first trailer we're going to talk about is us and them starring Jack Roth, which is Tim Roth's son.
I thought that.
I was going to ask you that, man.
Yes.
Directed by Joe Martin.
What did you guys think?
I got a bad feeling the trailer gave everything away.
I also thought the same thing.
Yes.
I thought we watched the whole movie already.
Yeah.
It's like Guy Ritchie's love child, man.
This was super British.
There better be a Twitter.
because if not, we already know what's going to happen.
We already know what's going to happen.
Yeah.
Something tells me there's no twist.
It may be interesting.
Probably worth watching.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't think it's going to be a bad movie.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't know.
Watching it, it looks like the typical hold rich people hostage for something.
And it seems like one of the guys is super interested in the money.
and the main guy is interested in something else.
So I don't know.
It looked kind of run to the mill.
Right.
He's the leader of the Cobra Guy.
You know what?
That would have changed my whole mindset of this movie.
Us and them do March 10th.
Okay.
You guys enjoy.
I like the name of it.
It's created.
Yeah, it's a sound like a Pink Floyd song.
Yes, exactly.
Very good.
Our next movie, I think, Lance, you're interested in this one,
10 by 10, starring Kelly Riley and Luke Evans.
Actually, you know what?
I got to tell you, you guys know how I feel about Luke Evans,
but it's looked like a pretty fucking interesting trailer.
Yeah.
I got to tell you.
I don't know what the hell was going on, and I like that.
Yeah.
It's definitely a room.
I think we've seen this movie a couple of times already.
Yeah.
And we reviewed it a couple times.
Yeah, it looked like split.
And then it also looked like, what was that movie?
Pet?
Pet.
Hopefully it'll bring something new to the table.
Kevin, what are you thinking, man?
Or the room.
Oh, my God.
It was interesting.
I mean, I like Luke Evans.
I mean, Dracula, if you want to go that way.
But it didn't give anything away in the trailer.
Oh, actually, maybe it kind of did, huh?
There at the very end.
I think so.
I think whoever made this isn't that dumb, so I'm hoping.
I'm hoping that wasn't the end that they showed.
I agree.
I think that was misdirection.
Yeah, it looks pretty good.
I'll check it out.
I don't know about the last one.
This one I will.
Yeah.
This is...
This one is...
Go ahead.
I was going to say this is the one that I'm probably most excited about that we watched.
Yeah.
I like the name of the movie.
the 10 by 10.
I definitely is a room where they're stuck.
I don't know what else about it, but I'm digging the redhead.
I'm digging Luke Evans.
Right.
I'll dig it.
Yeah, she's cute.
That's for sure.
April 13th.
Little ways to wait, actually.
I know you're not big on Luke Evans, Lance.
I thought you were going to bring up in Cool of the week.
a show you watched
where you're not all so big on that actor.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah, you kind of
gave in and watched it,
Waco?
Oh.
It started out great, man.
I took,
I took,
Pete MC's advice
from last week's binge cast,
and I started with episode
three.
Oh, went backwards.
Yeah, episode three was
fucking amazing in the first ten minutes,
because it was the shootout.
Oh,
Dude, it went downhill fast.
They're criminally underusing
Shannon, Michael Shannon.
Criminally.
I'm not into it, brother.
I'm done.
I tapped out about half a minute.
Episode three, I'm finished.
You know, I was going to start it,
but I wanted to talk to you first,
because I don't know.
Nothing about it really kind of caught my attention,
but the way Pete was talking about it,
maybe it is best you started backwards.
I don't know.
I don't know, man.
He made it sound pretty,
exciting and I tried it and it started out gangbusters man and it went pretty quickly downhill
what channel is this on paramount channel whatever the hell that is uh paramount used to be spike tv
oh okay oh the fog the old spike tv huh well they just yeah they're they're doing a they're a whole
different they're going to a whole different direction now so paramount huh well kevin you're the only
guy I know that finished the fog. What'd you think, man?
You wanted to season two, didn't you? Oh, the mist. I'm sorry.
Hell yeah, it did. The way it ended, I
want to know what was going to happen. And I wanted to see
some fucking monsters, but we didn't get any. But if they
do, which I doubt, if someone is listening and you guys want
to continue the story, please make it into a
even if it's a book, I read it. Making them a comic book, make it into
an hour short to wrap up the series something.
I want to see where that train was going.
Maybe Netflix will pick it up.
Well, we actually interviewed the showrunner,
and he was definitely hoping for more than one season.
Remember that?
Yeah.
Yeah, he was like, so I think he did that on purpose.
He set it up slowly.
He left it very wide open.
Reach out to him again and ask him what was the ending.
We can do that.
Actually, Lars, if you're listening, dude.
Well, I've still got all the contact info.
Yeah.
Yeah, we can do that for you.
Kevin, we'll do that just for you, man.
Who did it?
Christian Torp.
There you go.
That's right.
Yeah, Christian Torp.
Yeah.
Because I remember the interview, but I just couldn't remember the guy's name.
Yeah, Christian Torp, man.
And Lars knows him?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's how we got the hookup for the interview, man.
Lars knows a lot of people.
Dave, bud.
Yeah, find out the end.
for me, because I need to know where that train was going.
You can make it happen, man.
Fair enough.
All right.
Our last trailer is Looking Glass starring Nicholas Cage and who I assume is Robin Tooney.
Right.
Directed by Tim Hunter.
I watched this movie this morning.
So I'm going to let you guys.
Yeah.
It was available.
It was available.
I kind of
I kind of
I was on this
Nicholas Cage thing
because I liked his performance
in Mom and Dad
And I'm hearing
I'm hearing a lot of good things
About his next movie
Mandy
Right
It's basically like a revenge movie
And he's got a chainsaw
And all kinds of crazy shit
So I gave this one to try
So before I say anything
What did you guys think about
The trailer?
I want to see it.
Yeah, me too, man.
I mean, Nicholas Cage is still a draw, whatever you may think about him.
Is he making a crazy comeback?
What's happening here?
He kind of is, isn't he?
Well, he hasn't never left.
I mean, he's been making movie after movie.
He needs to, man.
You know what this guy's tax deficit is?
He's making shit movie after shit movie.
He's lost all of his houses.
Yeah, I think he's just, he's taking shit movies just to make money.
but I think you throw him in there
in a good movie
and he can do his thing
which I'm not going to give anything away about this movie
but I liked him in this movie
I did Robin Tuni
Robin Tuni did not age well
I will say that
I don't know what with actresses nowadays
but it seems like when I see an actress
I haven't seen since like the 90s
they look like super skinny
and what were you saying
Wasn't she in the craft?
Yeah.
Okay.
Just like Nev Campbell in the Rock movie that's coming out, Skyscraper.
She looks back.
I don't like, she looks all super skinny and like her face is all sunken in.
I don't like that shit.
Not good, man.
That sucks because I used to have a huge crush on Neb Campbell.
You know what?
Well, who didn't?
Meth is a hell of a truck.
God damn it.
But I kind of dug this movie.
I kind of dug this movie, but it wasn't nothing that you haven't seen before.
Ah, okay.
Was it a good twist?
No, I kind of, if you pay attention to the movie, you kind of, you kind of see what's going on by the end.
But it is available, if you guys know what I mean.
Was there a decent lesbian scene in it?
Yeah, there was.
There might have been a dog collar or not.
a leash and stuff like that.
Now we're talking.
So, go ahead.
His last movie in the theater was
2016
Soudin or Soden, however
you want to say it. I never saw that.
I haven't seen that one either.
I didn't either, but I'm looking at his IMDB
and that was the last thing he was in
and, geez,
he must have done
uh,
that was a
been two years ago
seven,
eight movies already.
What was a mom and dad?
Oh,
yeah.
Sound like he does one
every other month,
huh?
Yeah,
he's,
it's 27,
he did one,
two,
six,
seven movies in 2017.
He's got a new one
coming called,
Mandy Bureau.
And he has seven,
seven more projects coming.
I'm hearing a lot of people
talk about Mandy,
though.
Yeah?
Yeah,
I heard it's crazy Nick Cage with a chainsaw.
Okay.
That's all me right there.
I don't even know what the plot is, but.
I don't think you necessarily have to label it crazy Nick Cage
because that's just who he is.
Just Nick Cage, yeah?
Nick Cage with the chainsaw.
All right, gotcha.
He's already crazy.
So Looking Glass is available right now.
Okay.
And that is the last trailer.
That's the trailers.
All right, Philip.
Feedback time?
Samantha Bean says this was suggested for us to watch.
I think I recall seeing someone discuss it in here, but I can't seem to find it.
Thoughts, yay or nay.
Brian?
I have talked to Samantha.
I have not seen the movie in a while, but it was, I remember kind of digging it.
It's a very dark, claustrophobic space movie.
Right.
So, yeah.
That's what I told her.
I couldn't remember the movie.
I've never seen it.
Oh, okay.
So this is not Overfield Pandorum.
This is the, okay, I got you.
Pandora.
No.
I remember.
You've seen it?
I've seen it.
I've seen it.
I don't remember it.
I think Dennis Quaid is in it and Ben Foster.
Okay.
Oh.
Pretty good.
I think they, there.
That wasn't bad.
That's a good cast then.
Yeah.
It wasn't a bad.
Now it's coming.
I think it's like basically.
they're on a ship.
It's a bunch of people, and they're going to another planet,
so they're all, like, sleep and hyper sleep.
And then something happens to some of the passengers,
and they get kind of changed into these creatures,
and they're basically stuck on this ship.
That sounds a little silly.
It was kind of cool.
It was like the one with Chris Pratt.
What was it called?
Jurassic Park.
No.
Passengers.
It was like passengers, but,
not so family friendly friendly.
It was, yeah, it took a horror twist.
Yeah, it's not bad.
Yeah, it's not bad.
Let's see.
Pacific Rim Uprising.
Eric King says this movie looks like hot garbage.
Agreed, Eric.
Well said.
He also says, I'll be there opening weekend with my sexual role.
I will too.
God damn it.
We will all want to review.
Josh Youngblood says I'll give you my review right now
This movie is fucking awesome
Yes
On the way home
My boys and I will argue about which
Yeager is the best
Okay
Let's see
Regarding the ritual
Darren Wilson says
I'm nobody listened to
But I'd recommend this
We listen to you
Yeah of course we do
we're listening to you right now brother
there you have it
uh jesse bollinger
says other than the babysitter
I feel like it's the best
horror original movie on
Netflix
that says a lot
man yeah the babysitter was awesome
if you haven't seen that check it out
and that's a shout out
our buddy at horocopia right
uh Kevin
horror copia
movie copia big guys
yeah
blind freaking
line, aka Big Jesse.
Yeah, there you go.
That's him.
Yeah.
Philip, I think you'll dig the ritual because it's got that Blair Witch bar to it.
All right.
I'll definitely check that out.
Fucking, I'll watch it tonight.
Let's see.
I get his name wrong.
Every single time I say it.
Lars from Denmark?
No.
Las Elkjar.
Lasse El Jarre.
Says, saw some of it today.
But had to work, so stopped.
Really enjoyed what I saw.
sorry lassie
let's see we got a dark song
Ryan Steven says I tried to watch it
and got bored so past
What is a dark song
That's the one Brian saw this week
That was one of his cool movies
It's very
It's one of those movies
Like you said Lance
You'll love it or hate it
Okay
And it's slow
It's slow if you hang in there
I like where it's going
The end kind of gave me
Like it creeped me
out a little bit of where it was going.
And it's, it's all about, like, a ritual and stuff like that and how far you'll go to
complete this ritual, you know, to get what you want.
And it, it worked for me.
Yeah, Ryan Stevens did not like it.
Don Anelli says, I'm sorry, man.
I don't know if he's the one that suggested it or what.
Darren Wilson says, I mostly liked it.
Mostly.
Okay.
Uh-oh, we just got some quick feedback from Patrick.
Yeah.
I don't have that.
Kevin, you were watching...
If it's Star Wars, I don't want to hear it.
It's not.
Kevin, you're watching a movie called The Long Riders?
Yes.
The Long Riders.
And I said, sounds like a porno.
Patrick said, uh...
Oh, he says, I think that's the Dong Writers.
Leave it to Patrick.
We got that one on VHS, ladies and gentlemen.
Uh, it's a good one.
Jenna Jameson, check it out.
Jenna Jameson, uh, doing listener feedback?
Did she, did Jenna Jameson listens to our podcast?
No, I don't know.
Oh, okay.
I imagine not.
Okay.
You threw me off, dude.
No, no, that was a joke.
I was getting pretty excited.
All right.
Anyway, so Darren Wilson says he mostly liked the dark song.
It wasn't in his top ten.
and it gets a lot of hate.
Regarding the E-society Star Wars episode.
Uh-oh.
You ready?
Of course our buddy Patrick Lee.
Here we go, Brian.
Here we go.
Says Kevin Ness, loving the episode.
You are truly a die-hard Star Wars fan boy.
You keep pointing out a lot of bad shit in the movie,
yet waver not on how much you loved it.
Good stuff.
He even did his Yoda voice.
Yet you whim or not?
I'm there with you, Kev.
Together, we will say,
fuck you, Patrick.
Wait a minute, wait a minute.
Hold on, hold on.
I've got a theory here.
I've got a theory here.
You guys remember how Luke treated Ray when she showed up.
I think Patrick may be,
Patrick may actually be a Jedi master.
Maybe.
He's fucking with us to harden us up.
He's trying to chain us.
He's starting to chain us. Yes, he is.
We'll all be Jedi Masters.
Absolutely, Patrick.
You know what?
All hell, Patrick.
I'll give Patrick credit because he's found ways to sneak in little Last Jedi references.
Oh, yeah?
He's, yeah, he snuck him in there with, like, the Cloverfield Paradox and altered carbon.
Oh, yeah.
He throws them jabs in there when he can't.
Every chance he gets.
He's like, hey, yeah, I really love this movie.
Hey, but Star Wars sucks, so fuck you guys.
My God damn it, every time.
We'll all have them in a room.
When we're down in tech.
Oh, that's right.
I'll have to turn the camera on.
Wait a minute, that sounded bad.
Four guys in the room.
Lightsaber duel, nah.
Hold on.
That's when shit got weird.
Jessica Jones Season 2 announcement, finally.
Denny Lewis says more like Jessica Nope.
Oh, come on, Danny.
He doesn't like Jessica Jones?
No, that's a great show.
Are you kidding?
No, move on.
Come on, Denny.
He's wrong.
Move on.
All right.
I still finish that.
It's good.
You'll like it.
I thought it was good.
I started it and I started the defenders and just haven't even got through them yet.
Yeah, better than the defenders and Luke C.
Absolutely.
Ryan Steven says the first season was great
I'll be watching this second
They did a better job with her than they did with the Punisher
Oh I'm not about that
I'm not I'm kind of agree with that
Yeah like I loved what they did with the Punisher in the Daredevil season 2
Right
But I tried to watch the the series
Uh huh I liked it
It was very slow though
Yeah very I probably only got through six or seven
episodes and then I kind of forgot about it.
Wow.
And I'm the punisher guy, man.
That was my jam.
I'm kind of looking like the Punisher right now.
I'm very interested.
I'm very interested in this next season because I think what really did it for me and
Jessica Jones was David Tennant as the villain.
Yeah, and he won't be around.
Yeah, he was pretty awesome.
Well, yeah, but she did an awesome job as Jessica Jones, too.
Yeah.
I love her a little snarky attitude.
I like Luke Cage better in that one than his own series.
Yeah. Well, it got way too, like, I don't know, 70s shaft shit.
And I like that. I enjoyed the first half, though.
I liked the first villain that they killed off better than the second villain.
It was cool for an episode.
Right. But when you do it for an entire series, it's like, okay.
Fair enough. I've had enough.
Let's see.
On the news, Cloverfield 5. We're on 5 now.
That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
We've been through three.
We have one greenlit and Cleverfield 5.
That's what we're talking about.
So not even on the docket yet.
You haven't seen four.
May have cast Daisy Ridley.
Denny?
Whoa.
Adam Bunch, Cloverfield 5, was filmed in 2005, and we just never knew it.
It's very possible.
One morning we will wake up and it will have been inceptioned onto our memories.
Oh, boy.
That was fucking awesome.
I could not have come up with anything better myself.
That was amazing.
Patrick Lear says this explains how episode nine will be Cloverfield 6.
There you go.
There you go.
Can we move on, please?
I'm telling you, man, I could have posted the, what did we talk about earlier, the
Cobra Kai trailer, and he would have found some way to talk about the last Jedi.
I got it.
Well, it makes sense that he's talking about it with Cloverfield, at least,
because they would have found some way to make it a Cloverfield movie.
Unbelievable, man.
Let's see.
In the honor of the upcoming release of Marvel's Black Panther on February 16th,
which is, what is that today?
Friday.
Yesterday.
Two days ago.
Or no.
Where are you at?
Cloverfield.
In the honor of upcoming release of Marvel's Black Panther on yesterday,
besides the king of Wakanda, Tachala, who is your favorite royal superhero?
Ooh, interesting question.
Not too many, I don't think.
That's the one makes you think.
Art Callie says, I know me and Lance have been waiting for this sequel for quite a while coming to America, me.
It's not a sequel to coming to America.
Yes, that could be it.
That would be awesome.
Black Panther and Coming to America.
I'm sold.
Aye, aye, aye.
Speaking of coming to America.
Right.
How well do you guys know that movie?
Pretty well.
It's been a while since I've seen it, but yeah.
A buddy of mine was like, dude, he goes, he loved the movie.
He goes, but I was waiting for that one guy to come in and sing, you are my queen to me.
Oh, and my panther?
Yeah.
That's awesome.
Let's see.
Patrick Lear, again, says, King of Latvaria, Dr. Doom.
Okay, that's a good one.
Yeah, I'll take it.
If somebody would make a good movie about him,
and so those shitty Fantastic Four movies.
I know, man.
Fantastic Four can not get it right, huh?
Nope.
Can't get right.
Give it time.
Yeah, one day.
They had a good cast.
Well, it's under Disney now, right?
Yep.
Yeah.
All right.
See what happens.
I want to shit all over Star Wars,
but Marvel can do no wrong because they're under Disney.
Pts.
Patrick, so is Star Wars.
Shh, don't tell anyone.
Uh, Brian Stitcher.
Ah, there you go.
I'm going to throw a storm in there because she's married to Black Panther.
Yep.
I hope we see that in a future movie somewhere.
Oh, now that it's all under that umbrella, we could.
An X-Men reunion.
Right?
I can dig.

That's guaranteed.
That's what they're being made for.
Yes, sir.
Because we need to keep our drinks cold while we're walking around.
Yes, sir.
Exactly.
And we've got to get out to our celebrity people.
I got to keep Brad Doriff's beer that we're going to give him cold.
Forgive me as a soundbike.
That's Chuck.
In Chuckie's voice.
You're going to see a lot of Jason's with the horror returns coosies.
I'm telling you.
It's going to work.
And complimentary.
Complementary beverages.
is right? Get your name in early before
they all sell out.
Well, you can pull around a wagon, or you're going to
have them all in a backpack?
Hey, to quote
last week's show, that would be telling.
All right, so on that note, it's time for
our featured attractions. And this week,
courtesy of
Brian, our show
scheduler, yet again,
horror returns
brings you superhero week.
as we check out Black Panther.
Okay, now this one I can get into.
Were you mad at it?
Yeah, not at all.
This I can really get into, though, 1998's Blade.
Hell yeah.
All right, so we'll start with Blade, the trivia directed by Stephen Norrington.
He was also known for the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Death Machine.
I've seen that one.
I haven't either.
Uh, writer, David.
Yeah, I know.
League suck, too.
Did you see that one, Kevin?
No, I love it.
You did?
I didn't like it.
All the guys going around on the submarine.
I loved it.
I loved it.
All right.
That's cool.
To each their own.
Now, writer, now, this is a very, very, very interesting writer, Kevin.
David S. Goyer.
Does that name ring a bell?
I noticed that this watch.
I've seen this movie a jillion times and never paid attention to it.
This last time watching it this morning, I was like, whoa, fuck, he wrote this?
Yeah, I'm going to tell you just a few things he's done.
done. He's done
Charles Bands'
Full Moon pictures
feature the original
demonic toys. He
kind of cut his teeth on that.
And then he jumped way,
way, way, way
up from that
and wrote all three of
Christopher Nolan's Dark Night trilogy.
Wow.
And then he fell
and he stumbled to begin a little bit
and did Batman versus Superman
Dawn of Justice.
You know what?
He's always working.
Yeah, he's always working.
You've made that place in history.
He was currently going to do the Masters of Universe reboot.
Oh, that would be awesome.
But some concept art got out of some of the characters,
and a lot of people hated it,
and coincidentally, he's left the project.
That's not good, man.
It's concept art, everyone.
Well, yeah, but for all the hate that, you know, Dawn of Justice got,
I don't blame him.
All right, well, Wesley Snipes became attached to this project because he was in discussions with Marvel Comics to play.
What superhero do you guess, Brian?
Just give it a guess.
Superman.
Nope.
Kevin, do you want to guess?
Yeah, that's it.
There is.
Black Panther.
You got it, brother.
All right.
When Goyar first pitched the idea of doing a Blade movie, the executives at New Line felt there were only three actors who could possibly do the role.
one we know very well
Wesley Snipes
All right
Number two
Ladies Love
Denzel Washington
Well of course
And number three
The cowboy
The cowboy himself
From Peewee's playhouse
Lawrence Fishburn
Okay
They also wanted
Ladies Love
LL Cool J
LL Cool J
LL Cool J
Yeah
He was
He was really close to getting it
Yeah
Oh shit
actually he might have been pretty damn good
yeah well he would have been
yeah not as good as Wesley Snipes
not even he would have been fucking better than
sticky fingers that was the
blade from the TV series
oh yeah
I didn't see that slow
slow you roll I like that show
I like it too I like it too
oh my god I can't
I cannot bring myself to finish that
series I did I thought it was awesome and
I was mad that canceled it
Who are we talking about?
He's a rapper.
His name is Sticky Fingers.
Oh, that was his name.
Okay.
Yeah.
There you go.
He was in that rap group, uh, Onyx.
Oh, okay.
Damn.
Da-da-da-da-da.
I got you.
Uh, okay.
Okay, I got you now.
Yeah.
We're with you, man.
Let's go, uh, let's go Wesley Snipes instead.
Yeah.
I'll take Snipes.
Uh, but listen to this.
This might have been better.
Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate up you.
Where have I heard that?
Now, this might have been better.
Jet Lee was originally the offered the part of Deacon Frost.
Oh.
But I don't like that.
Yeah, instead he did lethal weapon for, so, you know.
Better choice.
I don't like what Jet Lee's a bad guy.
I like Jet Lee and anything.
Except that he doesn't have a whole lot of speaking parts, usually.
He's just there to kill.
Kick ass and take names.
I was first introduced to Jet Leigh with Lethal Weapon 4.
So after I saw him in that, I went and watched all his old movies.
I had no idea who he was.
Kick ass, that's who he is.
Yep.
Well, what did you guys think about it?
Kevin?
Oh, sorry.
I loved it.
This was a movie.
I knew the character from the comics.
Noah had no idea this one.
movie was coming out. I think it was on its last run in the little rinky-dink town that I live in.
They had it. It played in a, we have two theaters here. And the newer theater, there's a
backroom closet theater. The screen is like maybe as big as your TV set.
That sounds sticky. So I went back. They said, yeah, Blade, because my buddy was, hey, should check
it out. It's good. I went, oh, okay, cool. So I went and saw it, had no idea what it was going to be
about and
nothing to do
with the comic story
but it was
awesome.
I love this
movie.
I mean,
the two of the
two that came after
the second one
was decent
because,
uh,
what's his name
directed it?
Uh,
Guillermo del Toro.
Yeah,
that one was cool.
And the third one,
ooh,
if it wasn't for
uh,
Triple H and,
um,
Deadpool,
I don't think I would have liked it as,
as much,
but Ryan Reynolds is Jessica Biel,
man,
uh,
with their shoulder muscles shining.
but this one
it was an amazing film
I loved it
it was late 90s
CGII
some of it was good
some of it was ify
but I liked the story
on what they were trying to do
and Stephen Dorff is
Deacon Frost he was awesome
and I can't remember the actor's name
that played Quinn
I've always liked him
and everything he's done
being either a comedic role or serious
but he was good in this
and just all the characters that they throw into it.
I was kind of pissed that Tracy Lores was only in it for a second,
and then that was it.
She got dusted right in the beginning.
But that song by Ruthless E, I don't like that techno noise,
but the song in the beginning when they were in that meat locker or wherever,
oh, my God, I think that fit, that whole action scene.
And just when the big blood came out of the spickets and everything,
I just thought that song tied that whole.
scene and when it went right into the action, I thought it was amazing.
I know when, to go back to the TV show, when I couldn't see anyone else being
blade.
And then when that show came out, I went to the panel like Comic-Con and they showed us
whatever before the show came on.
And I was on board with it.
The story was stupid and everything.
But the movie was just amazing.
I mean, I heard there was rumors that Wesley wanted to make a fourth one.
My fingers across did they do, but...
I heard that too, and it's supposed to be his daughter, right?
I'm not sure.
And I heard that Marvel, they want to do it again, but I don't think...
I don't think they want Wesley a part of it.
I don't know.
That's what I'm worried about.
Yeah, I don't know.
We'll see.
But overall, this movie's badass.
Hell yeah.
Dude, I love this movie.
X-Men gets a lot of the credit for starting this superhero movement, you know?
And Blade came out before then, dude.
This was the first really kick-ass superhero movie.
R-rated superhero movie with a black main character, right?
Wesley's, they could not have picked a better person to play Blade.
He was badass, too.
Them Wesley Snipes.
He was awesome.
He had the, what is it, the Brazilian fucking fighting thing going on?
There were some great fights.
Yeah, man, I can't remember the name of it right now, but it was kick-ass.
It did have some hokey CGI, you know.
Especially toward the end.
Yeah.
We were talking about that earlier with the flying demons.
And all the blood raining down and all that.
But they didn't make it.
main focal point of the movie, and it didn't take me out of it at all. I loved his little one-liners.
I loved Chris Christopherson in this movie. I love Stephen Dorff in this movie. This is probably
my favorite role from all three of those people, including wrestling snipes. Yeah? Yeah. And I
Dorff? Yeah, Stephen Dorff? Oh, fuck that douchebag, man. Oh, no, I loved him in this movie.
No, I loved him in this movie. He looked like one of the lost boys lost in this movie.
Well, he did, but he was awesome.
He pulled it off, man.
He was a vampire.
I don't know, man.
I would have been happier with Udo Kier is the main bad guy.
Also,
uh,
also before, uh, vampires were cool in the movie.
It's sexy and shiny and...
Dude, this movie set a lot of precedence for fucking Hollywood, man.
And, uh, I don't think it gets enough credit for, for what it did.
Yeah, say what you want about Deadpool being groundbreaking,
being R-rated.
And say what you want.
one about Black Panther being groundbreaking
with a black hero.
Wesley did it first and he did it best
bitch. Yeah, he did it best.
And they didn't do it with any kind of
fucking secret message coming
through or anything, man.
It was a kick-ass
superhero movie. Yeah.
And it was what it was.
And it was awesome. I love
it. Yeah. Well, I think you got my review
in too. Brian, have you gone yet?
No.
Blade is kick-ass.
thinking about this movie is kick-ass.
The fight scenes are badass.
His car, which I believe is, what,
a 68 charger?
Oh, yeah.
Makes sense.
68.
I like this world that we got to go into
everything from the vampire
language. I like there were certain scenes
where they were speaking in the language,
and they kind of, at the end,
the voice would change and would be more, like,
demonic.
And I thought that was really cool.
Just everything.
and, you know, you got, the more you got into this world,
everything from the little weird Asian schoolgirl rap group in that club.
Oh, yeah.
Which was cool.
That was very influential.
Super Quentin Tarantino.
Speaking of Super Quentin Tarantino, that fight scene in the nightclub.
Hell yeah.
Yeah, and it's just, they gave you enough to not, you know, question stuff.
Like, you know, some of the, some of the, what were they called?
Familiar, the humans that wanted to be vampires, they would have them,
little marks and they told you what it was.
You didn't really have to really get into it that much.
That little dweeat cop.
The only thing, the one graph I had, you guys already brought it up, was the, the
CGI doesn't hold up, especially when they would use those, um, those little darts or
needles or whatever that exploded vampires.
Hell, it was 1998, man.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But other than that, you know, Blade is, blade is definitely.
a classic, you know, it was
doing the superhero shit
before that was really
superhero movies. And I think a lot
of people don't even know that Blade is even
a Marvel character. Right.
And I have heard
of them doing another Blade, but I heard it
might be a Netflix series.
I'll go for that.
Yeah. And I would
love for them to do it because I know there's a comic
series where it focuses on his
daughter. And you can bring
Wesley in as a, you know, he can
cameo every episode. He can be like
what is the guy from Daredevil? Stick.
Yeah. Right. You know, kind of shows up every now and then.
He kicks ass. Hopefully he won't look that old.
I hope he does show up.
Yeah. Wesley Snipes was so kickass in this movie.
He brought like just the right amount of street
into it. You know what I mean? Yeah. I mean, I know
Wesley made some mistakes and I'm not talking about the tax shit.
You know, I heard he was on the third blade movie.
he was very difficult to work with and wanted to kind of have things his way.
But I think he's paid his debt.
And, you know, I think a way for him to come back is another Blade movie, whether it's a movie or a series.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm down, man.
I'm all in.
I think a lot of people would be happy to see that.
Always bet on black.
Now you're going to make me watch that movie, Passenger 57.
Oh, yeah, that was good.
what i mean what i loved uh other than it this being uh in the marvel universe i mean i grew up
uh the first time i've heard of blade was in uh issue number 10 uh the tomb of dracula when uh
blades wow okay blades for appearance and that was back in 73 i didn't read it in 73
uh i rated i read later but um seeing them when the movie blade was out i was like okay cool i knew what
Blade looked like in the comic book.
If you guys have no idea what he looks up,
look him up in his first appearance.
He's got an afro and everything.
I would have been cool with that,
plus that was the 70s.
But seeing him
in Wesley in this
his blade for the first time,
I was just like, oh my God.
I just loved his
little flat top
and the big tattoo that he had in the back of his head
that went to his back and just his
whole battle gear that he wore.
He was a cool motherfucker.
I know they changed it up as the next two movies,
but in this one being the first movie,
he looked awesome.
I was always hoping that they would make the Tomb of Dracula another movie,
or make it into a movie,
because that was an interesting comic series.
But in a world of just superheroes and all that,
I doubt they would even touch the Tomb of Dracula story.
But I don't know.
Any of you Marvel guys listening, make it happen.
Oh, I'm sure they're all listening, Kevin.
All the big execs at Disney and Marvel are staying tuned.
You hear you there, you motherfuckers.
They just fucking can't wait until the next episode of the horror returns.
Every week.
All right, fuck.
You guys ready for scores?
Yep.
Kevin?
10.
This movie was awesome.
Wow.
Damn.
Strong words, man.
Dude, not bad.
I'm gonna do a nine.
I really love this movie.
I mean, the only thing that it doesn't get a 10 for is maybe some of the hokey CGI.
But again, you know, doesn't take you out of the story.
They don't do it.
They're not overkill with it.
And it is what it is for the time frame.
Yeah, I was over.
all ready to give this movie a seven and a half
when I finished watching it, but the more
I'm thinking about it looking back
and realizing how much this influenced
what we're seeing today and
all the other vampire movies
and it's just had a lot of influence, a lot of influence.
And the more I think about it,
you know, thinking about the Deadpool connection
and the Black, fuck, the Black Panther
connection and everything else. I mean, this did
at first. So I got to go with eight.
Give it a good solid eight, Brian.
I'm going to give it a nine and a half.
This is a movie that I can constantly rewatch this movie and it doesn't get old for me.
So, nine and a half.
All right.
So that's Blade.
Consensus, incredibly highly recommended to check it out.
To the, yeah.
So now it's time to move on to the big one, the main featured attraction, which of course, unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Black Panther came out this.
week.
Yeah, because it's got a hell
a lot of hype.
Director Ryan Coogler,
also known for Fruitvale Station
and Creed.
Real quick.
Kevin, are you bummed
that Ryan Coogler is not doing Creed
2?
Yeah, I was hoping
he was going to do it,
but I think after doing this,
he's
I guess the new hot director,
so I think
he's going to be moving on to something bigger.
than for his next project.
Who knows?
I'm not sure, but...
Bigger than the Rocky universe?
Right?
Kevin.
I would...
You're in the Marvel universe.
Yeah, I mean, I guess...
I don't know.
I would want him to redo Creed.
I wanted him a part of Creed, too,
but now I'm sure he was just too busy with this project,
because I'm sure it took a long time for them to make it.
But I don't know.
We'll see.
I am bummed that he's not a part of Creed, though.
He's doing Cloverfield 7.
already filmed
it was a creed movie but they changed
it's all right so Ryan Coogler also wrote it along with
Joe Robert Cole
he's also known for a television show that Jack suggested
to us last week American Crime Story
Oh yeah I haven't watched it yet
Yeah he's the head writer
The Black Panther character was created in July
1966
Yeah, let's, you know what?
Let's go ahead and get this.
Let's clear the air, guys.
Yeah.
We do not talk politics on the horror returns, but with this movie, you can't help it.
Yeah.
So there's going to be a little bit of talk that we may not normally do, but I think all of our listener base is going to be cool with it.
But the Black Panther character was created in 66, and that was actually two months before the founding of the Black Panther Party.
Oh, I didn't know you had it written.
Many people mistakenly assume the name referenced the party, and so the character,
and so the man renamed the character Black Leopard.
Damn the man.
However, neither the readers nor the creators cared for that title.
It didn't last for long.
So, back to Black Panther.
It doesn't have a nice ring to it, Black Leopard.
The Leopards have spots.
You can't be a black leopard.
Well, there were spots on some of the costumes in the movie, but we'll get into that
later.
Dark leopard is going to be a sci-fi movie.
Right.
Asylum.
Brian, I want to know what you think about this, all right?
Close your eyes and imagine.
You ready?
John Boyega was originally considered for the role.
What do you think?
I'm glad they passed on that.
Okay, cool.
Yeah, he's good, but in this, I don't think so.
I'm not sold on John Boyega yet.
I want that movie that, I,
I read that he was going to be doing.
He's going to be playing a young Mike Tyson.
Okay.
Oh.
I can see him as that.
If he can get the talk about that.
He has the look.
Yeah.
He does not have the look of Black Panther, however.
I would have been very disappointed.
I don't know if he can get the talk down.
The accent.
We'll see, huh?
Okay.
Final piece of trivia, director, Ryan Coogler, brought in consultants who are experts on African
History and Political.
politics to work on defining Wakanda.
There are many African countries, each one with different histories,
mythologies, and cultures.
There are several tribes who live amongst each other,
and together they make the identity of the country.
We honed in on some of the history and cultural influences from different African countries
and then made estimations.
And I don't know about you guys, but I think it shows in the final product.
So Kevin, our guest, what'd you think, man?
Oh, that wasn't a good sound.
It wasn't what I wanted because he was badass in Civil War.
I was kind of let down with this one.
No!
It was good.
It was good.
I mean, I enjoyed it, but I wanted a little more.
And the CGI was kind of not that good in some parts, in some parts.
Okay.
I liked the story.
I loved the story and what was in it.
The director, Ryan Cogler, he's an amazing director.
I loved everything that he has done that's been on the big screen, be it at Fruitvale Station,
and Creed.
And plus, the big plus for me,
loving him, he is from my hometown,
Oakland, California, East Oakland.
I got to represent.
And, but,
I don't know, man.
I mean, I just, I was so excited
and so hyped to see this movie.
I sat down.
It started off with a bang
with my favorite hip-hop artist,
too short in the trunk was bumping.
It was right after the little intro of the first scenes.
And it said,
Oakland,
California.
It was a late night showing.
I was the only one at the year.
I thought about it.
Yeah,
I threw my hands up.
I threw my hands up.
I had to represent.
And then two short kicked in.
And for anyone that doesn't know Oakland,
that was not filmed in Oakland because I had no idea where that building was,
where they were.
I think it was filmed in Atlanta,
actually.
And that C.
of the Tribune building that the
Oakland Tribune is our newspaper
in Oakland. That was sweet to see
that really quick.
And
I don't know, man.
I think what I was
let down by on was
the action. I mean...
Oh, what are you talking about, dude?
Did you not see the South Korean
scenes?
That was good. I liked it when they were in
the city. But once when they're out
in Wakanda and all that and
out in the country, you know,
It was too busy, too, too CGI busy, fake, oh man, dude.
Fake scenery.
I was kind of like, man.
You can't see me right now, but I'm nodding my head.
I was kind of like, oh, okay.
I mean, I don't know, man.
I just wanted a little bit more.
Too cartoonish.
Yes, I wanted a little bit more.
Like I said, the story was good.
Everybody in it was phenomenal.
All the acting was in.
I was kind of iffy on Michael B. Jordan.
I love him, though.
I was kind of iffy on his character.
His character was probably my favorite in this.
Same here, dude.
We agree on that.
Yeah, mine too, man.
Mine too.
As Killmonger, I thought he did an amazing job.
I liked how he would just, like, still Street Hood, and he had that Oakland vibe.
So I really love that.
I think that's mainly why I loved this character.
But I don't know, man.
I just wanted a little bit more.
I mean, I know some people are probably telling me, what the fuck did you watch?
I watched the same movie as you guys did.
but I just wanted a little bit more in this movie.
Oh, man.
I mean, I'm not saying I hated it.
I'm going to see it again.
My son wants to see it.
But maybe I was tired.
Maybe I'll enjoy it, the second viewing.
But I left the theater, like, okay.
I mean, that's it.
But I know there was everybody online and everything, like, oh, my God, this is amazing.
and this was the best Marvel movie ever,
I wouldn't go that far.
I wouldn't go that far necessarily.
Yeah.
Winter Soldier was my favorite one out of the MCU.
But I don't know, man.
I think I need to watch it again.
Maybe I'm something.
Maybe I said, maybe I was tired
because I did see it like almost midnight
when it came on.
And I don't know.
I mean, I mean, I don't know.
I need to see it again.
But I mean, right now I was just,
I felt a little.
I left the theater a little empty with this character that I've known since I was a little kid.
And all, like I said, it was awesome to see him in Civil War.
But in this time around, I was just like, okay.
And as far as-
Drop off a little bit for you.
Yeah, and as far as movie crowds, my crowd sucked.
They were just, you could hear crickets.
I mean, they were just-
Really?
Yeah, I mean, they was just, I was like, I think I was the only one.
the loudest one in there.
Wow.
I laughed everything, but it was just
everybody else was all quiet.
And I was like, okay, man, you guys suck.
But all right, whatever.
Somebody who's vaping some
weed in our theater
and my wife was losing her
fucking mind. She kept staring
at me and I'm like, I'm not
fucking doing anything. What am I supposed to do?
Wow, we all had some
exciting experiences, huh?
Wait, she was
I want to move on. No, hey, hey.
All right, Kevin, we're good, dude, but I want to know what Brian has to think,
because you're the one who sat through the really shitty theater experience.
Oh, shitty crowd aside, I thought this movie was amazing.
I do feel like some of the CGI was kind of not that good.
I'll talk about it later, but...
Okay.
Overall, I like...
You almost saw some stuff I missed, because I thought it was pretty decent.
I'll bring it up.
And my only two gripes was there.
there was some wonky
CGR for me
and there was also
some of the accents
I wasn't buying
and maybe it's because
I know the actors
and maybe it just felt like
I'm just listening
to that actor
try to do an accent
instead of them
talking as this character
and it just kind of took me out
like my wife went with me
and she kind of pointed out
with one of the people
in the movie and she was like
are you buying this?
And one of the scenes
she, there's something, I'll bring it up later.
She also had a problem with, but overall,
I thought the movie was amazing.
I liked the story.
I liked the kind of journey that he kind of went because, yeah,
you got a badass Black Panther and Civil War,
but I think this was kind of a different one.
He was kind of going through becoming this king of Wakanda and just being tested and,
you know, finding out stuff that he didn't know about, about his family.
And I think it was kind of, it kind of took him out of this,
took him out of his
zones basically and I think that's why
you know he kind of was the way
he was in this movie but
a lot of people are saying
Michael B. Jordan is the best Marvel villain
since Loki. I don't necessarily
know if he is
but he is definitely one of my favorites
along with Andy Circus. I really
like Andy Circus in this movie
which I'll bring
those two up later. It is
another gripe I have with this movie
but overall I thought this
movie was badass.
And I love that it was a self-contained story.
We didn't have to hear about what's going on with Captain America.
What's going on with this?
What's going on with that?
It was all about Black Panther and Wakanda.
Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
They didn't need to throw in other characters to try to carry this film.
Yeah.
And I mean, after hearing what you said, I think, I just thought of it, I think what made me like,
or what made me think
I wanted more in this is
his reasonings for in
I'm not spoiling you guys should have seen Civil War already
when his dad died in civil war
he was in a different state of mind
he was pissed that his dad was murdered
so he was out for blood and
yeah he wanted to kick ass
yeah he just in that situation
he just had a one track mind and that's I'm a
I'm a kill whoever killed my father
yeah I think
I think that was my biggest problem with
because he was so badass in Civil War
and he was out for blood
and like you said in this one, it was a different
story. He was trying to be
king and he wanted to do this and that.
I don't want to spoil anything right yet, but
I was like, okay, I think
that was my big problem right there.
I mean, he was a different mindset.
Yeah. Well, he's king.
He wasn't out for revenge. He wasn't out for
revenge. He wasn't as mad as he was
in Civil War. I think that was
what I
was, I didn't like.
I mean, but I'm thinking about it now, I, I'm okay.
Well, it was, like I said, he was in a different mindset.
So I think that was my problem with it.
Yeah.
I mean, if you're going to be the king, you have to be a judicious leader.
If you're going to be the leader of a nation, just saying.
I did love it.
I don't, I think it maybe got a lot of undue high.
It definitely is not the best Marvel movie I've ever seen.
It's not the best origin story I've ever seen
because you put this up against Iron Man
and I think it maybe falls a little flat.
It's not a bad movie by any means.
I really did love it.
I loved that it was a Marvel movie
with like the who's who of black actors and actresses.
Like, man, I'm really,
amazed that Oprah didn't show up in this movie.
You know what I mean?
You got everybody from Forrest Whitaker to Michael V. Jordan to everybody, you know?
You should have had Tyler Perry in there.
Right.
No.
You should not have had Tyler.
They filmed in Atlanta and in Georgia.
I thought that they relied a lot on CGI.
I don't think that it was necessarily bad CGI.
I just think that it was so much.
that it got a little overwhelming.
Yeah, I get that.
I feel like this whole movie was shot in front of a green screen.
And that was, that, that put me off a little bit.
I felt like they had some messages to put out, which didn't necessarily need to be there.
We'll talk about that later in spoilers.
I'll probably talk about some of it now.
Well, just a general.
I mean, obviously in general, you're going to have some.
some, you know, black activism movements in there, which I felt were kind of unnecessary.
Well, here's what I get out of it.
And I don't even interrupt you because I'm, you know, do my review here in a minute.
But to me, it seems like Wakanda is what one of the countries of Africa could have been had the white man not invaded.
As far as the wealth and as far as, you know, controlling their own resources.
I really thought about it like that.
Yeah, I don't know.
I just kind of saw that in there.
And it kind of hit a nerve, you know?
Yeah.
So I thought that was kind of important to at least recognize that, you know?
And that's why they kind of felt like they had to keep it secret and keep it under wraps.
And I'm okay with that.
It was, I can't get too much into it because it's a Michael B. Jordan thing when he gets there.
And Cougler loves working with Michael B. Jordan, man.
He's in his upcoming movie, too.
Don't get me wrong.
The guy was awesome.
this movie.
I just,
I don't,
I don't think I,
I,
was he believable,
though.
Yeah,
I'm not sure.
It's,
and it wasn't him.
I think that he,
he acted the part
amazingly.
I,
I just,
I'm not sure I like
the way the character
was written.
Tichala
was awesome.
Michone was
a nipple-rific in the movie.
Dude,
she was hot.
She was,
she was killing it.
Um, the chick from, uh, black, black mirror.
Black Mirror.
Yeah, that's what I'm going to say.
My favorite character is his little sister.
The skinny little red doll from Black Mirror was, was the sister in this movie, and she was fantastic.
Yeah, she was great, man.
I loved her.
See, and this is, this is, and that's, I don't know.
I'll wait.
Can we say it yet?
No, I'll wait.
Okay.
I loved Angela Bassett, even though...
I love her in anything she does, man.
I mean, her role wasn't super huge, but she was...
She killed it and what she had.
I don't think she ages.
Yeah, no, she doesn't, obviously.
I like the story.
I just, I think maybe it got a little extra hype.
I still loved the movie.
I really do.
I think it was great.
I don't think it's the best Marvel movie.
to have come out. I don't think it's the best
Marvel origin story to come out.
But it is definitely
definitely worth watching.
And I feel like I like
the whole African vibe they got going
and the whole black power thing.
They did their homework. Yeah, man.
I'm digging all of that.
Like, I loved
every second of that. I loved
that it was a Marvel movie
that had a cast of a
majority of black
people. You don't
see that all the time. Right. With like Captain
America. But it wasn't...
It was a mainstream
movie. Yes.
That had a majority black cast.
And I think that was
really cool. I think that they should do more
of that. And not
so much, well, here's a black cast,
but they have to be typecast in a black movie.
You know what I mean? Right. I thought that
was cool. That's a good point, man.
So...
Maybe that's not
the best way to end it.
I mean, look, I'm going to put it this way.
But it was great.
All right, you guys know how I feel about superhero movies, right?
I mean, I read comic books religiously when I was in junior high and high school.
I'm burned out, guys.
I'm fucking burned out on this superhero bullshit.
There's too much shit coming out.
And here we are.
We're doing a horror movie podcast.
I'm cool with the occasional, like, two or three times a year we do an action movie like John Wick.
two or three times a year
we do a science fiction movie
but god damn it's like we do
fucking superhero movies six or seven times a year
but guess what
I really like this movie
it was so much fun man
it was so kinetic
from start to finish
and I mean you want to talk about
literally the best
costume
ever
this fucking costume
what it can do
we'll talk about it in spoilers
I think I like
Michael B. Jordan's better. Oh, but you know what? I wouldn't have said that. I'll worry. I did.
It's all good, man. But you know what? I didn't. I didn't love. I'll tell you what,
I didn't love the choice of a actor for Black Panther. I actually think, and I told you this earlier,
I thought Michael B. Jordan might could have done a better Black Panther. Oh. You know?
I don't know. Okay. That's cool, man. That's cool. I'm not mad.
No problem with that. Disagring. But I really think he put in a good performance.
Um, some of the costumes, when they got to parts early in the movie, it's not super spoilery.
And that's also in the trailer where they're showing the cliffs with all the different tribal members and their costumes.
And it shows you how much diversity is in the continent of Africa that it's not what you think where it's just one tiny little place.
Like what they show you on TV.
It kind of looks like they're all, you know, skinny kids, uh, people, you know, walking around with face paint on.
And that's pretty much it, right?
They don't go into all the details of it being an entire continent.
Like North Africa is more Middle Eastern in nature.
South Africa's got its own vibe where it's kind of like colder climate
and a lot of European influence and stuff like that.
You saw all that in this movie, and I kind of enjoyed that.
And I loved that scene where they showed the cliff,
and they started on the bottom and the camera panned up,
and you saw all the different people in their costumes from the area they were from.
I like the fact that they showed different people,
from different tribes, like, you know, the colder parts, the hotter, the warmer parts, the jungle area, the mountain area.
I just thought they did a pretty good job of bringing all that together.
It wasn't far-fetched, like when they went down underground and showed all that?
Yes, super far-fetched.
Less we forget, this is a comic book movie, you know.
But for me, like I said, my favorite character far and away was the little sister.
I loved her.
She was just fantastic, man.
I felt like she could beat anybody.
She had enough spunk and spirit.
She could kick anybody's ass.
I'll wait.
Yeah, we got to wait.
But I will say my favorite part of the movie,
and this isn't given too much away because it's kind of early
is when they went to South Korea on that mission.
But there was a car chase scene that would have put any of the fast.
I will challenge it against any Fast and the Furious movie car scene, period.
I'm done.
I don't know.
It wasn't better than the one in Tokyo Drift.
All right.
Tokyo drift, man.
So do I.
It's all good, man.
But I loved it.
Are we ready for scores or everybody going through?
Yeah, we'll do scores.
All right.
I'll give it an eight right now.
That's damn good, dude.
I mean, like I said, I mean, I had some problems with it.
And like I said, it wasn't what I wanted.
But, I mean, overall, it was still a good movie and the story was awesome.
So, I mean, I didn't like, I didn't hate it.
it. It's not like I'm not going to see it again, and I will buy it when it comes out. But,
yeah, I mean, I think that's the highest I can go is at eight. Eight's good, man. Eight's
fucking strong, dude. Problems aside, I'm going to give it a nine. I had fun from beginning
to end. You know, my wife don't really do these kind of movies, and I mean, she was all in on this
movie, which I think kind of just added to my enjoyment of this. I mean, she,
bought the collectible cup and popcorn
for this movie, so
she was excited.
It made me excited, and
I'm gonna go with a nine.
That's really good.
All right.
The moment of truth.
I don't want you to think
that my
like trying to,
I'm just trying to slow your role a little bit.
It's not the greatest movie you've ever fucking seen.
I'm going to give it an eight. That's true.
Eight? That's strong, dude. I think it was still a great
movie, dude. Marvel can do no wrong.
and uh... wow sounds like we've had a great week on the horror returns i think yeah i think this one
uh was was was right up there with some of the greats uh it just it just is not it's not
the best movie you've ever seen in your entire life so you get ready for that all right
but it is great go see it yeah i'm i'm going with the score uh like i said blade i walked out
thinking 7.5 but but you guys kind of talked me into an eight especially when i thought about the
influence. I walked out of the theater from this one with eight in my mind, and I'm sticking
with it. It's a good strong eight. Okay. So this movie to me is as good as Blade. As much as I love
Blade, and I'd watch it over and over and over, I think I'd do the same with this. I really enjoyed it.
And you know what? Claw, uh, Circus. Andy Circus. Hey, guys, uh, I blew Phillips mind. Oh, yeah.
When I told him who all Andy Circus has played before. It didn't click. I know how I did.
It's a list of people that you wouldn't think you is.
Okay, so what's the list?
Who has he played?
Caesar from Planet of the...
Golm.
Gollum from Loader the Rings.
Snoke.
Snoke.
He was also...
The Peter Jackson, King Kong movie.
He was King Kong.
King.
Which he was also...
He also played himself in the movie as one of the crew.
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned
This is a motherfucking
Spoiler alert
You've been fucking warned
This is a motherfucking spoiler alert
You've been fucking warned
Nice
I loved him in this one
I thought that he was wild and crazy
Wildly crazy guy
And he was like on top of it man
I hope he was
I hope somebody finds him
And gives him some elixir to bring him back to life
I hope to be that guy one day.
Spoiler.
All right.
Oh, shit.
Oh, no.
Spoiler alert.
Oh, fuck.
All right.
And on that note,
this is our motherfucking spoiler alert.
You've been fucking warned.
Maybe I should do it a little early.
Oh, man.
Hold on.
I met him once, Andy Circus, at Comic-Con.
And he is, like, one of the coolest.
stars you won't meet.
He was...
What does that not surprise me?
He was so awesome.
I mean, like you said,
he's done a ton of awesome roles.
And he can be mean.
He could be an asshole in the film.
But when you,
he's standing right in front of you,
he is amazing.
He is so nice and so polite.
And it's not just like,
oh, hey, I love you.
I love your movies.
They're like, oh, right on.
And he'll ask you questions.
Well, what did you like?
What did you like about this?
role that I did.
No shit.
I had a huge conversation with him, and he did that with everybody that wanted to meet him.
It wasn't just, okay, here, I'll sign whatever, take a picture of you, goodbye.
No, he had an actual competition.
Put down your hundred bucks for an autograph and get the fuck out of here.
I actually met him, and he was staying in our hotel.
No shit.
I met him in the lobby, so he was really cool.
Wow.
Yeah, you guys know he's doing a, um,
jungle book movie, like a darker version, where he's directing it to.
I think I heard that.
Yeah, he's also doing motion capture for it as I don't know which character he's going to be,
but I'm very interested in that movie.
Hmm.
Sounds pretty interesting, man.
What did you guys think about Martin Freeman's role in the movie?
I like they gave him more than what you got from Civil War.
Right.
Because I thought he was just going to be,
just one of the supporting actors
and then he actually
are we in spoilers?
We're in full spoilers
I approve that
when I said in that major character death
so I think we probably have to play the spoiler alert
before we would normally play it
but we can fix that in editing
I like they gave him something to do
and you got a little backstory
that he was actually in a fighter pilot
because you know
that would have been really awesome
if he just all of a sudden jumped in this this simulation or whatever whatever it was that put you actually controlling a one of those jets so i like they they gave him more to do he was actually a part of the story instead of just being this yes agreed cia guy that just asked a few questions and what did you guys think about our our main man uh mr get out daniel cauluya what an asshole man he'd my
He fucking, what a turn code, huh?
He sold out, man.
I mean, I wanted him to be...
He disappointed me, man.
I wanted him to be badass and all that, and he just turned out to be a slout, and then...
Right.
Okay, I'm done with you.
I was like, they should have took your body and get out, get out of here.
Unbelievable, man.
One of the things I did have a problem with, and I told my wife before we even went
in there, I was like, I hope
they don't kill off the villain
in this movie.
Like, they do every Marvel movie, and they
killed two.
And I really, I really
liked both of them.
Did they kill them all?
I mean,
I've got a feeling Claw's going to be
back somehow. I guess
he can't be, though, can he?
He was, he looked pretty dead. He was pretty dead.
Yeah, God damn it.
You know, he looked extra dead
dead.
That was what I have to.
He said, that's where Michael B. Jordan showed up and said,
Yo, Auntie, I got a gift for you.
Okay, well, okay, that was my issue I had with Michael B. Jordan.
Not necessarily him personally, because I love him,
and I love the character that he played.
I feel like, though, even though he was from the mean streets of Oakland,
you know what?
Go ahead.
I said, you know it.
I got represent.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
No, even though he's from the mean streets of Oakland, man,
if he's a big, bad, like, Navy SEAL, like, government-el overthrowing motherfucker.
Right.
Is he really going to be that down to earth or down in the streets?
I feel like some of that gangsta is going to get washed away a little bit.
I don't think so.
I don't think so because I think he...
I think because he dropped the line.
I've been, I've been waiting for this moment all my life.
I think he was always who he was, even with all that training, all those, all those people he killed, which a little fact I read those scars on his body, which are the marks for people he killed.
Yeah.
They're supposed to be over 2,200 on his body.
Shit.
I thought that was cool.
I like that part of it.
But I think he was just always who he was and he never forgot who he was.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I found it a little far-fetched, man.
Yeah, I don't know, man.
Like, to make it that far in life and to be that thug life is a little rough.
And, uh...
Yeah, it seemed like he would have been a little bit more, uh, cerebral or a little...
Right.
At least, you know, under the, under the radar, shall we say?
But then again, I think...
He pops up into Wakanda and he's like, bitch, I'm from here.
What's up, Auntie?
I'm like...
But I think, like, it works for him because he...
This guy is ever, what Ross knew who he was, because he was one of his guys.
But him being who he was and being with Claw, they never real, they never even thought to think that he was like CIA.
That's true.
That's true, man.
Oh, yeah, that's true.
Yeah, he might have really just thrown him off.
That might have been like the shell game type thing, you know?
Well, I mean, I can see what you're saying, though.
And then I had a little bit of an issue.
It sort of threw me off.
when he started talking about his ancestors,
you know,
coming across on boats
and jumping off ships
and all this shit.
And I'm like,
what,
aren't you from Wakanda?
I thought that was...
Right.
But like I was telling you earlier, man,
he was raised in America.
So he kind of earned it.
Yeah.
But it was,
I mean,
he was just throwing it out there.
I was like...
Right.
Just because you're black
does not mean you're related
to all the black people.
Yeah.
But what is...
Those are not your ancestors.
Your ancestors.
ancestors are here. You're talking to them right now. What are you talking about?
Still kind of hit a nerve with me when he said that. I thought it was kind of cool.
Yeah. I was, I was getting what he was saying. He'd rather die than to live in chains and prison.
A lot of people have said that. I get that. Thomas Jefferson said that. And he owned slaves, right?
Yeah. I get that. It was just, ah, I felt like it was a bit much and it was kind of unnecessary for the movie.
It was deep. It was kind of.
Yeah.
Some of the...
Some of the actors,
did you have a problem
with their accent?
Which ones were we talking about?
I did.
I was confident.
Angela Bassett and Forrest Whitaker,
I felt like
were Angela Bassett and Forrest Whitaker
doing accents.
I just had a problem with
Forrest Whitaker's lazy eye.
But does he always...
They fixed it.
They fixed it.
That's always there.
Come on.
That's all Guerrera.
I don't know how you can...
I think that they have that accent, but it's just a very theatrical voice.
And I think it works.
They're like doing Shakespeare, basically.
I think it works for any accent.
So I don't have a problem with them.
I mean, I didn't have a real problem.
I just took it as I've seen them in so much that I know that, you know, that's not their accent.
But it just, I don't know, it just came off.
They're a little too established for you to break everything you remember about them and relearn who they are.
But if you really think about it, I mean, it's not like they would have.
really been speaking English to begin with.
Right.
Yeah, I mean, I just thought, like, the actor, I can't remember his name, from Get Out,
and then the actress I played Black Panther's sister.
Yeah.
They're British.
They're British.
And they do a hell of a job with the accent.
Yeah.
I don't think anybody else had a problem with it.
I mean, Michone, she's not British, right?
Oh, she kicked so much of the ass.
in this movie.
She kicked a lot of ass in this movie.
She was probably my favorite character.
You're talking about going from one hairstyle to the other.
She was so amazing.
She actually,
she actually in real life has very,
very short hair.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So this was too difficult.
This was straight up her shaving it off.
Yeah, right?
But she kicked out.
She was hotter in this one than she was in,
and then she is in Walking Dead by a lot.
Yeah.
I mean, she was like,
just other than her being just tough and badass, man, she was sexy in this.
Right?
She was the one that I wanted more of her.
I mean, give us a movie of her and her little battle forts.
We may get it.
She's still around and tell the tale.
Yeah, she is in the trailer for the Avengers movie.
Not a surprise.
How is she not a superhero at this point, right?
I mean, if anybody's going to be a superhero.
superhero she should be. That was, uh, yeah, she, she put on a hell of a performance. And I loved,
I also loved love that even though Michael B. Jordan was this ass hat that came in and took over,
right? She was still like, look, this is, this is my job. Yeah, I'm, I am loyal to the crown. Yep.
And this is what I do. I'm not just going to abandon that. Until a certain point. Yeah, well, I mean,
Well, technically, technically she didn't abandon him, though, because the combat ritual was not finished.
Right.
So she didn't abandon Michael B. Jordan.
But she realized he hadn't died.
True.
Yeah.
Because it was a battle either to the death or until one of them tapped out, right?
She stood up her moral ground, and I love that.
They were like, well, the wrong person won.
Well, right.
That fucking sucks.
This is my job.
Speaking about
When
Black Panther
I can't remember his name
But remember he was fighting
With that first guy
Before he became king
Yeah
Yeah
The apes
Yeah
Oh love those guys too
Which they changed
They changed them
His name
Because in the comics
He's man ape
And they changed that for the poopie
Well
That makes sense
During that fight, during that fight, you had a man apes, his guards, and then you had Mishone and her crew.
Do you notice how they kept moving in?
Yeah, closer.
Purs them toward the edge there.
Of course I did.
So I was like, what were they supposed to do, push them off the edge?
Yeah.
There has to be a winner.
Right to the death, man.
I mean, but they kept moving forward and forward.
No, I love that.
Kemp, I love that part, dude.
I'm not saying I hated it, but I was wondering, well, what if they were so, so battling so good and they couldn't throw one, one off?
Were those, all of them going to just push both of them off?
Maybe they didn't have time to wait.
I was kind of thinking, I was thinking, what if one of them accidentally fell off while they were fighting?
Yeah, because I'm sure.
Forrest Whitaker is president.
I don't know if you've stepped in water, like a waterfall thing.
Right.
The constant water, the floor gets like real slick and slippery.
It's not exactly stable, is it?
He was right on the edge with that triangle in there.
Literally.
Yeah.
I thought both of them were going to slip off.
I did too, man.
I did too, dude.
I thought, I also thought, speaking of the ape guy,
I felt like a lot of the, not his in particular, because I felt like his humor was pretty spot on.
Some of it didn't quite hit for me.
No, I agree.
Yeah, but the movie was not revolved around that.
So I didn't really have a problem with it.
When it came from, I believe her name was Shuri, a Black Panther sister.
Yes.
It worked for me.
And I don't think it, I think it should have just.
came from her, not really from anybody else.
Yeah.
And that was one of my kind of gripes, knowing the character, that they didn't really establish her,
because her intelligence is on the level of Tony Stark.
Right.
And they didn't really, and she's only 16 in the movie.
Well, she had a long way to develop still.
I feel like hopefully they'll, they'll feature her in some other movies.
Oh, you know they will.
You know they will.
I think they would have to.
I mean, she was such, just from going online, she was a big fan favorite.
And so they would have to continue with her.
And I think it was a good choice to use her as, I don't want to say comic relief,
but I mean, all the stuff that she was saying was not, what wasn't all funny, but it was good coming out of that character.
As well as when Bilbo had his little, his little comedy.
Bilbo.
It was Bilbo.
Yeah, he did all right.
His little one-liners.
I always think of Watson from Sherlock.
How did you guys feel about La Pita Nyongos character,
which was Black Panthers' love interest?
I was kind of meh on that, you know?
I didn't think she really stood out that much, to be honest.
They didn't really play her up a whole lot.
I thought she was beautiful.
Don't get me wrong.
Like in that scene with the casino and she's in that little green drette.
Wow.
But aside from that, like, she didn't kick near his mind.
much ass as I'm going to. Yeah, I expected
more. Yeah. Yeah, because they
I mean, they didn't, like you said, they didn't build her
up, but they mentioned how she's, she's
a Wakandan spy.
Right. And I just kind of,
you know, I was a little underwhelmed,
especially the fight scenes.
Yeah, I'm sure we'll get more later.
Yeah, like the fight scenes with
Michone, I keep calling her that, because I don't
know what the fuck the real name is.
But, uh, like,
her fight scenes were incredible. She
was great. She was spinning that fucking
spear around her neck and
doing some real bow staff shit
and yeah
his
Oh that that scene where she
flipped off the car and landed on the hood or whatever
Yeah pretty amazing
That was badass
Yeah that was kick ass too
But yeah the
Nah the other chick
I thought she
She sort of fell into the background to me
Except that she has a really beautiful face
you guys
and yeah I'm here
all right sorry
and one quick thing that
one last thing that I liked
I mentioned that we didn't need to have
a whole bunch of Marvel characters in this
I did like in the credit scene
we did get Bucky
and I was just to ask you guys
what the fuck was that all about
I got the first post credit
but I didn't get that one
in Civil War
they brought him to Wakanda to hide out
and not only hide out, but you remember he, he had a lot of brainwashing.
Right.
Right.
They're basically kind of fixing him.
Okay.
And getting his mind together.
So that was, I like that.
Some, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was casca to drink or whatever that stuff's
called.
It makes you trip.
So, so.
So basically, basically, I like how they just kind of, you didn't need him in the movie,
but that little credit scene was to kind of like, remember, he still.
here and, you know, they're fixing him.
Which I hope
he gets a vibranium arm.
That whole time.
That'll be kick-ass. During the
whole movie, all
I can think of, where's
Bucky? I was hoping
that they were going to, hey man, we need
help. We got to win a soldier.
Let's bring him out. And I was
for that final battle.
My fingers were
crossed and they were going to bring him out.
but it's good that they didn't
and I'm glad that they did
pop him up at the very
at the last
credit scene
but yeah man
I was just like where's Bucky
I mean
yeah
they didn't
you know at the end of the day
you know they're all Wakandans
and I don't think they wanted Bucky to come
murder everybody and
right
I think one of the things
that I didn't like was
the way the movie
was going. It was awesome, just all being
all the humans fighting. And then
when they brought in that big monster or whatever
the hell it was, I was kind of like, oh, really?
But... You mean the rhinos? I don't know.
No, um,
wasn't that like a monster man
in this thing? You might think of something else.
I think I'm not. I think I'm missed that part.
Oh, no. I did have a
problem with them all. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Cloverfield. I remember that. Yeah. They brought in
Cloverfield, dude.
This is actually a
Cloverfield movie.
And the movie ended it, it went
bwaw,
wow,
wow,
wow,
wow.
I actually,
I did have a problem
with them all
fighting each other
towards the end.
I thought that that was,
uh,
kind of silly.
Kind of,
yeah,
kind of silly.
I thought it was very game,
Game of Thrones-ish,
well,
yeah,
but I mean like,
okay,
so,
um,
the,
the dude that played and get out,
right?
Mm-hmm.
He was supposed to be like his,
his best buddy,
right?
or whatever?
Yeah, and he turned on it.
Yeah.
But then he kind of tried to turn back at the end.
Yeah, his tribe
was the border tribe,
which they were in charge of
guarding the border.
And they were in charge of the rhinos.
Yeah.
Yeah, but he sure flipped on him pretty quick.
He's like...
Yeah, he did.
Yeah, I know you've been my king,
and we've had all this peace and everything,
but this guy brought me a dead white boy,
so I hate you now.
and we're going to fight.
I thought that that was kind of ridiculous.
All right.
So on that note,
all right, one thing I will say, though,
the speech that he gave on the first after-credit scene,
pretty inspirational speech.
Oh, yeah, that was good.
Could it be a mistake to bring Wakanda out into the open totally like that?
Like, just totally, all of a sudden, everything's wide open?
I don't know about that.
I would have brought it out kind of,
gradually, you know what I mean?
I...
Before the credit scene, he kind of
already did that with the spaceship.
Yeah, I know.
Let the kids play basketball, see the spaceship.
I wouldn't agree with that, necessarily.
I mean, it's kind of the same thing
that Tony Stark did. He's like, hey, fuck,
I'm going to throw my nuts on the table, and this is...
It is what it is. What's up?
I did like the speech, though. It's very Star Trek.
Yeah.
Very inclusive.
Yeah. I think it will have implications on
on what's going to happen
of Wakanda, though.
Ah, okay.
I think
that will be
one of the,
maybe be one of the problems
in the second movie.
I mean, not a problem
with the movie,
but with the king
bringing out,
okay, we're in this hidden city,
but now we're going to
unleash it to the world.
I kind of have a feeling
and somebody,
some characters
to be like,
no, we can't do that.
We still got to stay hidden
and all this.
So,
I don't know,
maybe that'll,
be a storyline but I have no idea
where they're going to go with the second one.
Stay tuned. Black Panther 2
coming soon. A theater near
you. I think one of the main
problems I had with this movie,
yeah, they gave you a little history lesson
in the beginning of the movie.
I wanted a,
I think what I wanted the most was
an origin story of
Black Panther because
they really didn't give us that.
You threw in Black Panther in Civil
War and now you're giving them
giving us to this movie now after Civil War.
I was kind of satisfied with what they showed at the beginning.
I mean, as far, I mean, a lot of people that do not know who Black Panther is, only what we saw in Civil War,
because they were kind of like, well, who is this guy?
What made him want to be Black Panther and all this?
I mean, I think people wanted to see that, as well as me, I just wanted to see.
I knew how and where it started, but I wanted to see it.
But we're apparently not going to get that.
That was cool.
I kind of have a feeling the second one, the second movie in this Black Panther series.
I think I'll like it a lot more than I did with this one because it's set in stone right now.
We know what's going on.
He's a king.
We took care of a killmonger, which I thought was stupid.
I think it would have been better to have him going to the deck than die.
I'm not convinced he's dead.
how do you not bring back that character?
Yeah, he was, I think, yeah, maybe.
He was too strong of a bad guy, and then he's just going to kill him off.
And I know Marvel has a history of killing off all their bad guys, but my fingers are crossed.
I don't know.
We'll see.
Yeah, he was a pretty awesome bad guy.
I'll give him that.
Right.
All right, cool.
So until the next movie, we'll have to wait.
Kevin, where can our listeners find you, man?
Everyone knows.
Go to Podbean.
Dot com and look up Skaternez podcast network.
It'll pop up.

And it's been an amazing ride.
And hopefully I can keep continuing on with everything that we've done so far, as well as being.
Hopefully, you fuck you, you asshole.
I'll be so fucking humble.
You know you're going to continue on, bitch.
Oh, yeah, I'm going to.
Theo, he's not going to.
He's no way.
We don't see it end in sight.

Next week, we will finally get a good horror movie in 2018.
Let's hope so.
Let's hope so.
There's a big old question mark on that.
I don't know.
You guys were saying the other horror movie.
Maybe it was really good though, right?
Well, it's Annihilation as well as sunshine.
Brian, tell us about Sunshine, man.
It is a sci-fi movie, and it is directed by Danny Boyle,
and written by the director of Annihilation, Alex Garland.
Annihilation is Padmei herself, right?
Yep.
And we got Balker.
in it.
Tessa Thompson.
Okay.
Oh, that's right.
She is in it.
And we also have a particular Jedi pilot, don't we, Kevin?
Oh.
Poe Damran, isn't it?
Is he in there?
He said Poe Damran, too.
Right?
I can never think of the actor's real name.
I don't know what the hell is real name is.
Oscar Isaac.
Yeah, I was like Oscar.
Isaac.
He's Po Damran.
It'll be nothing else.
There you go.
So,
until the horror returns again, Keeb.
Everyone in Oakland, California, I gotta represent.
I love you all.
Oakland is in my heart, no matter what.
But everyone, we are out of here, so good night.
Wakanda forever!
