What's up everybody? This is Chad L. Coleman, Fred Johnson, from The Expans, and you're listening to The Horror Returns. All right, guys, Lance and Philip here. We're still walking around the Comic Palooza grounds, and we've actually come upon Houston Haunted Tours. What is Houston Haunted Tours?

It's a private little tour company that I have. Currently, I run three different tour routes into Houston area, and they're over three hours long each. Really? Yes, sir. Okay. Didn't even know Houston had that many haunts to go to. What are some of the highlights on your tours? I have three different tours, and one of them, well, two of them, we go into different cemeteries.

We explore some abandoned cemeteries, some that have been overgrown, like you see in this photo that I have right here. This is an African-American cemetery, probably the oldest one in Houston. Really? It goes back to at least 1860s, and there's some markers in there. And it's overground, the fence has been broken, and I can take people in there at night. And where exactly are your tours? Are you just downtown, or do you go to other parts of Houston? This is a lot towards southeast Houston.

But I also have a pub crawl in downtown Houston. We visit a few bars. Okay. We have 100 legends surrounding them. That is something our listeners might be interesting. Tell us about the pub crawl. Where do you meet? How do we sign up? Where do we find you? Great. Okay, we meet near a restaurant, which is probably the most haunted restaurant in downtown. And then we start from there, and I walk them a few blocks around, and we just go to the different bars.

I explain the legends around them, surrounding them. We also go underneath the street bridge to visit what is an alleged entrance to a crypt that was there before the Civil War. Really? Now, is this downtown or what part of Houston is the Krypton? Yeah, it is in downtown. Okay. What is the history behind that? Can you fill our listeners in a little bit on what led to this? My interest in it? Well, I'm a historian. I'm a member of the Harris County Historical Commission. We're the ones who do the historical markers.

I've done a few over the years for some cemeteries. And so I have an interest in history. But I've also had an interest in hearing ghost stories. I've loved people's ghost stories, paranormal activities, UFO stories, that kind of thing. So I decided to match these two interests that I have into this tour company. I've done tours for other companies before and the past, but the last two years I went on my own now. This is an independent company that I run. We'd love to come and do a podcast while we're actually on the tour at some point.

Do you do these year-round? Yes, sir. I'm available all year long. Okay. 365 days. We started dusk, so depending on the time of the year. All right. So let's say I wanted to go to a tour next week. Tell us all about Dawn paranormal. What do you guys do? So we are an investigative group, and we investigate homes or businesses, and we will tell you yes or no if it's haunted. And if you want to get rid of it, we'll try to help you get rid of it.

How long have you guys been doing this? Oh, my gosh. We started 2011 as a brew. We can actually just walk into a place and tell you, yeah, there's something here, no, there's not. Do you have other divisions besides Houston, or is it just the Houston group that you guys are involved in? Travel places, but mainly we stay here in Houston. We don't get very many calls for people. What brings you guys to Comic Palooza?

We usually have a paranormal track. Mr. Michael Varhola is usually in charge of the paranormal track, and we usually have panel discussions on different topics. Last year we talked about cleansing techniques, protective techniques, ghost hunting 101, why we do it. And this year, he just happened to be out of the country. Oh, that's not good. Bad timing. Yeah, bad timing.

So hopefully, if you guys are here next year, we'll have some panel discussions in place next year. Okay, but in the meantime, if, wait a minute, wait a minute. Phillips got a question. Is there any famous places in Houston that you've checked out? I saw in your book here, the Spaghetti Warehouse in Houston. I know I've heard that before. An investigated, public investigation. They did have some public investigation.

And there was some pretty, yeah, We could feel stuff there. And we were getting, we were getting, our equipment was telling us that, yeah, there was stuff there. Okay, so you guys have been to the Spaghetti Warehouse? Was it on a professional basis? Or you guys just happened to be there? Were you called in? No, it was a public tour.

Okay. So they used to do, I don't know if they still do it, but they used to do public investigations where you could just go in. Oh, the Winchie brothers. We're from Spring. Have you guys been there before? We have been there. We used to hang out at Spirit Quest. I don't know if you've ever heard of that place.

No, enlighten us. We haven't heard of that. Let our listeners know. Do we have listeners all over the world, actually? Spirit Quest, they're an awesome store. Joshua, what's your rank? I am captain and commander of the USS Endurance, a commanding officer. And what exactly do you guys do? We represent various charities. Today we're representing the Southeast Texas Food Bank. And internally in our chapter, we support various STEM, as in science, technology, engineering, math. We built a 3D printer. We work with our local astronomy club to do some stargazing.

We have cadets, kids. We work with various projects with them from building robotic arms and things of that nature. Oh, it sounds like a worthwhile endeavor. How long have you guys been doing this? So our chapter finishes its first full year of being a fully commissioned chapter May 22nd, 2017. Okay. And we started on August 6th of 2015. And you were showing me the ship here.

You said this isn't the enterprise. Which ship do you guys have commissioned? So this is a sovereign-class ship. This is the USS Endurance, NCC-75010. Okay, excellent. So what brings you guys to Comic-Palooza? We want to promote Starfleet International, the international organization with chapters worldwide,

It's called Rockabilly Road Trip. And it sounds weird, but it's kind of like supernatural, you know, except with a hot chick and, yeah, an insane, like, mechanic. So, yeah, and it's based, it's got a lot of classic monsters in it, stuff like that. And you can get it through Stratom Comics, yeah. So is there a website for Stratom? I mean, if we want to find your artwork, like, we're looking at it here, but we can't describe what we're looking at to our listeners.

And also, in September, we're going to be unveiling the Rockley Road Trip car, like the actual car, you know, and that's going to be at the crab festival in Louisiana. And as soon as the car is done, after we do the big unveiling and stuff like that, we're also going to be running, like, small webisodes like skits, kind of like jackass, except. What got you specifically into horror? I mean, was it something you were into as a kid? Yeah. I started doing superhero stuff to kind of make money a little bit. Right. Well, we are at Comic Palooza. I'm like the horror because I was more comfortable doing it. You know, I mean, you guys, yeah.

Yeah. So, yeah. And also, I have a wicked fairy tale series that I'm doing. This is Red Riding Hood, yeah. Oh, man, dude, that looks amazing, man. Here's the thing, like, everybody's knocking it and stuff like that, but you know what? I think, like, if you remember the original, right? Yeah, of course. The tackiest, most corneous part of that movie was when he turned the spider, right? I mean, it looked like, it looked like somebody stuffed. Yeah. It looks like a Muppet. So I'm thinking if they do it right, right, I mean, with the technology we have today,

like I think they might be able to. But then again, you know what, Stephen King and his son, Joe Hill, right? Two of my favorite writers, but every time their books get translated into movies, like horns. It's never what I imagine. It's never what I envisioned. I was so jacked about horns. I don't even care that Harry Potter's playing the good from horns, right? Say, he's a pretty good little actor, dude.

He's coming up. Yeah, he was really good, you know? But because he's also doing a lot of the hammer stuff, too, like the new Hammer movies. What the fuck are you talking about, dude? Fill us in, man. What are you talking about? What was the Lady in Black? Yes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that was him, right? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you know, and that was, that was hammer. Yeah, okay. But, anyway, so, like, I was so jacked to go see horns, and then when I seen it, I was really pissed off because they gave the director, like, too much leadway on it. They never stuck to the book.

Right? Like, I think the first 15 minutes of the movie had nothing to do with the book. It was horrific. It was horrific. And I don't even, look, I'm not even going to get into it because I'm just going to get more pissed off. But, you get into it. I know, right? Dude, it's so easy for me to slip into something like that. But yeah, so, I don't know. So what's your favorite horror movie growing up, man? Favorite, Hellraiser, the original, personal. Or Rawhead Red. Anything by Clyde Barker coming out. You know, there's a new Rawhead Rex movie coming out.

Is it really? Yeah, I think they're going to redo it. I heard they were redoing Hellraiser, but I never... Without Douglas Bradley, it's not going to be the same. Yeah, he was the pinhead, you know? But also, like, Nightbreed. You're no Nightbreed. Yeah, of course.

Cool. And news that came out right after that is we're getting a Deadpool adult animated series coming to FX. And this is coming from Donald Glover. Donald Glover? Yes, he's going to be involved. I don't know if he's voicing anybody, but I know he's going to be involved in it.

I think the making of it. Interesting. So is this going to be like Atlanta Part 2 or what? I know because of the success of Atlanta, he's got some kind of deal with FX. Right. So I think he's just going to, he's a producer on this. So I don't necessarily know all the details. But this is coming 2018.

Right. Okay. We're looking forward to seeing that, I'm sure, right? Yeah. Okay. On to probably the biggest news of the past week. We're not getting a Hellboy 3, but we're getting a Hellboy R-rated reboot from Neil Marshall. Really? Okay, cool.

And if anybody doesn't know Neil Marshall, he's done the movies The Descent, Doomsday, and he's done some episodes for Game of Thrones? Okay. Correct me if I'm wrong. Is Doomsday the movie that starts out like it looks like it looks like. like they're in King Arthur's Times and then they're in a fast car and it looks like they're in the future. Is Matthew McDowell in that movie? Yes, he is.

Okay, yeah, that movie's a trip, man. I really enjoyed that movie. It was just fucked up. It was really weird. It was something completely different. Yeah, it was. If no one's seen it, I recommend it. Right.

What was the coolest thing you've seen? The coolest thing, I think, is they had a big old haunted house thing, and we actually got a quick interview with these guys,

but they had a setup that was, it was just super elaborate. I mean, there's these big horror clowns, and there's this big tall thing that they've got, and it's all kinds of horror-related junk. And the clowns have been walking around. We ran into them like four times, They're a little jugglo-ish, but they seem pretty cool. Nice.

Any celebrities you've seen so far? Yeah, we ran into a couple of Friday of the 13th celebrities. See, in this one, they've got them all off to, like, one side of the building, and they're a little more rigid on how they have the lines and everything set up. They've got, like, these big velvet gates and shit that you have to walk through to get to each celebrity. So if they have a line in front of them We kind of just don't really want to mess with them Because we're only here for a day

I think this is going to introduce a lot of newer ones. From what I understand it, it's going to tie into the movie universe. Okay.

So, yeah, I mean, it's a little weird they released the teaser, because I think at the end of the teaser, it says they're going to release the trailer on the 15th. So I don't understand why they just wouldn't release the trailer or wait. Yeah, yeah, just a couple of days because that wasn't really much of a trailer at all. And I'm looking at the cast list. I believe you met this guy at Frightmare, Texas Frightmare, Jeff Daniel Phillips. Oh, yeah, from 31. Yes, he is in the, he's going to be on the show here.

I'm actually looking forward to this one more than any sequels to any of the other ones except Daredevil or Punisher, you know?

I think it looks, just from the, like, little fight scenes that they showed where everybody kind of took a turn on that one guy, I'm pretty stoked about this one, man. And I'm going to go out on a live and say, and I think we're going to get a better improved Iron Fist than what we got in this series. I don't know. He still kind of looked like a little weenie in the trailer I saw, man. You know, I'm not sure about this. I don't know if that's just the way he's supposed to play the character, but I don't know. I'm talking about the fight.

The fight scenes really is what bothered me. Yeah, me too. And I really like that. They can't have Daredevil come in there and just like lay the smackdown. And then Iron Fist is jumping around like a fucking fairy the whole time, you know? Yeah. And I really enjoyed that clip where he's trying to fight Luke Cage and gets knocked down. Yeah.

And then just gets up and just Iron Fist the shit out of his face. Yeah, that was kind of cool. Because when you watch the Iron Fist series, you just kind of wonder, why didn't you just use the Iron Fist more than you did? Right. Yeah, that's something he didn't do too much of. Yeah, like, he seems to be in, like, trouble a lot in that series. Right.

Like, how many times is this superhero going to get his ass whooped? And, uh, sad that he's not going to be in the show, um, is John Bernthal is not listed at all. Oh, no punisher showing up, huh? He's here. Yeah, he's here. Which I'm crossing my fingers for like the last episode, maybe a post-credit scene that sets up his series. Well, he may just show up in the show and they just didn't show it to you on the preview or have him in the credits or whatever. Yeah, that is true.

But that's, I mean, if he's not even listed in the credits, it's kind of an outside chance. Then we're getting a release date on this August 18th. All right. Philip. The Hidden Land of Kun Lun was inspired by various stories, including James Hilton's Lost Horizon and Tales of Today.

Matt. Rosario Dawson is the only actress to appear in all four Marvel series on Netflix, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. She will be in Defenders. Yeah, looks like from the preview, she's also going to be in Defenders. And says, Finn Jones prepared four hours daily before filming began. Do you believe that? Oh, my gosh, it depends. I don't know. He says he did two hours of martial arts training and two hours of weight training every day. Okay. I don't know about the weight training now.

Yeah, I know. He was kind of a small guy. Well, that's what he said. He said he wanted to have more of a toned and athletic look instead of being like a muscle-bound gym rat like most of the superheroes are. Now you put it that way. I can see that. So, yeah, that totally makes sense to me except that, I don't know, man. I was a little bit disappointed with a lot of the fight scenes in this series.

honestly, you know? Yeah. I was totally taken out because originally the whole big thing was people that got to review the show early really shitted on the first six episodes. Yeah. Those were actually really good to me. I thought they were too.

Yeah, I was hanging with it through the first six and shoot maybe even ten episodes, you know? Yeah. It was just a fighting. I just really think he didn't have time to prepare properly. Yeah. And just...

I'm totally in agreement with you. And just a couple scenes and defenders, it looks like he's had more time to prepare, so... Yeah. Well, like I said, that one scene where they're taking turns, whooping that dude's ass, and he jumps in at the very end and does like a Superman punch. Yeah.

And that looked kind of cool, man. So hopefully he does a little better. How would you say that it compares to the other Netflix Marvel series? if I had to rate them, it'd probably be four out of the four. Yeah. Because Daredevil set the bar really high. Yeah.

And Jessica Jones, I did not expect anything from it, and that's up there with Daredevil for me. It was good. It was better than I thought it was going to be. You guys told me to watch it, and it took me a while to get around to it. And it has... I did love it. And it has one of the best Marvel villains in it.

Yeah. I forgot his name in it, but in the comic books he goes by The Purple Man. Yeah, yeah, the Purple Man. He was pretty unstoppable, you know? Yeah. I think I liked it maybe better than the Luke Cage series. Yeah, Luke Cage, kind of like Iron Fist, kind of lost me near the end. Yeah, I mean, I think Jessica Jones and Daredevil are way above and beyond,

and they're going to bring this whole Defenders thing all the way back up, I think. They're going to be the one, the glue that holds it together. Yeah, I believe so. Looking at some more notes I have since it's comic blues, we're going to be reviewing a lot of comic book movies from here, from now till next year. Yeah? We got 14 coming out. And so we're trying to keep things interesting because most of the podcast guys have kind of set back up on the table in the back all day and just kind of recorded in silence. And we took a little different approach. Yeah. Well, I believe, you know, we go off the rails a lot. So yeah, it happens. It fits the show. Everybody's going to hell that goes at this convention. Yes.

And we're like, like, give them space. Like, they have nine cops on them. like, get them people's face, let them speak. And they're like, okay, okay. He's the one editing. Here we go. I love how they make themselves around one trash can. Right.

Because they, I remember what I went up there because I wanted to like mess with them. And I told them, I told them this. Like I said, can you see my phone? And at the phone brightened stuff really dark. He said, no, I can't see it. You'll have to go over there in the shade. And I'm like, why aren't you over in the shade? And I said, he told me, well, he likes it here, like standing here.

Uh-oh. We just, we just lots some lights. Oh, seven o'clock, I think they're shutting down now. Next to the trash. Right? Yeah. Turn the lights off on us. Yeah.

I mean, they're where they belong. They're where they feel comfortable. Right. Whatever. Why should I stand in their way? Fair enough. All right. So that's, I guess we're more or less being told that the lights are going out.

The party's almost over. It is almost time for Comic Palooza Saturday. Yeah. Get off the fire. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here. Right. All right. Well, that was a good recording that was probably one of the strangest ones we've ever known.
