Dad, I know you're pissed, but it's really not that big of a deal.
Are you kidding me?
Getting arrested and going to jail for vandalism isn't a big deal to you?
It's not like I was trying to rob the building.
I just wanted to skate the rail.
It's private property, for Christ's sakes.
First you're feeling out of school, now you're getting arrested.
Don't you realize you're throwing your life away?
I'm not throwing anything away.
Yes, you are!
And for what?
So you can skate bro with your little friends?
God damn it. This is fucking ridiculous.
What's ridiculous?
I'm doing something I'm good at or I'm not doing what you want me to do.
This isn't about me. It's about your future.
No, it isn't. I'm sorry. I'm going to be a fucking baseball player like you wanted me to be and have the life that you threw away.
I didn't throw anything away. I took responsibility. Something you know nothing about.
What do you know? Look at you. You fucking hate your job. You hate mom. You hate me for being born.
And most of all, you fucking hate yourself.
But you fucking don't do that way. I can't know.
Everybody welcome back to another episode of THR Presents Stream Feens. I'm your host, Bron,
and with me as always is the E-society skate god himself.
My brother Nez, what's up, man?
I'm good, man.
I'm still out there, everyone, even though I'm way overweight and all that, but I'm still doing it.
I've been riding since I was nine, and I'm almost 50 in that couple months.
I'm still out there.
Can't do all the shit I used to do when I was light, but I had.
I'm still out there.
That's what counts, man.
I'm still out there pushing.
Always trying to look for that
that ultimate line
and just pure speed whenever I can.
It's an expensive
game we're playing.
It ain't a sport, no matter what anyone tells you.
Skateboarding is a way of life.
You do it.
Once you begin, you do it to the end.
So that's a you true repatripping.
out there know what I'm talking about all these other guys that come into it and then just quit now you're in for the long haul so when it's time for me to lay in a box make sure my skateboard's with me so I can keep on ripping but oh man this is a film that I never even heard of where did you find this one I remember when a movie we're talking about everybody's 2009 street dreams I
I had first heard about it when Rob Deer Dick had that show,
a fantasy factory.
And he,
one of the episodes,
they were doing like a screening at the factory.
He like set up like a basically indoor theater.
And I just thought it was a cool idea.
You know,
it was a movie for skateboarders made by skateboarders.
And there's a few people I recognize that are in the movie.
And, um,
Yeah, just always always wanted to see it and then one day I just seen it pop up on Amazon Prime and I was like, you know, what better time than now?
If you guys don't have Amazon, it's on YouTube. So I was watching it. I watched it on there. Well, I watched it twice.
Well, I watched it like all the way through twice and then I listened to it as I was working.
man, street dreams.
You were just given a second chance there.
You're going to start taking life a little more seriously.
I just don't understand.
Your grades, your absences, all seem to suggest that you have no interest in graduating.
Go, go, go!
We try to encourage him at home, but there seems to be interested in other things.
I saw you trying something crazy over there. What was that?
360-foot crooked grind down a handrail.
You're living in a fantasy land.
We'll live, man.
If you can give me a tape with that on it, I can pretty much guarantee you a spot on the team.
No problem.
We're cutting the knobs off the university, rail.
I need you guys to help.
You've been riding my hotel since day one.
Because all I see is a kid that takes rides in my van and moves off of my board hookup.
First you're failing out of school.
Now you're getting arrested.
Don't you realize that you're throwing your life away?
I'm not throwing anything away.
Yes, you are!
this was an awesome film.
I didn't know
nothing about it. I didn't read into it.
I didn't watch no trailers or nothing.
All I knew was who was in it.
This is the new generation
of skaters. I mean, everybody knows Rob
Deerdeck because of the MTV
stuff, ridiculousness.
Robin Big,
big, rest in peace.
Has cameo in this movie?
Yeah, I mean, I figured he would have been in it more,
but he was in it for, like,
second, but it's all good.
That was drama, wasn't it?
His cousin? Yeah, showing his
ass. Yeah.
This was, according
to when they were on Fantasy Factory,
this was, I think, drama was
16, 17 years old
when they filmed the movie.
Okay.
Showed his ass.
Hairy ass.
I know.
I was like, it's a damn.
But, I mean, this, it was a cool
story. I liked
what was happening
before we dive into it. Run through
synopsis. Okay.
Let's go with Google.
Google actually has a short
to the point one. Up and coming
skater runs off to compete in a
competition where he could become
the next star.
Okay.
RMDB,
the story based
the story is based where
skateboard
culture is the most foreign, the Midwest.
Derek Cabrera,
like all skaters, sorry,
damn, this is a lengthy one.
Yeah, it is.
Like all skaters, has a dream of being sponsored
and one day going pro.
He is an up-and-coming skater with all the talent,
but has the world against him.
Parents, friends, and schoolmates
can't understand how Derek has so much
passion for something he has no future.
has no future in his eye in their eyes i ain't going to read this whole thing this is going
this is the whole damn movie here yeah it is it was it was written by a rob dear dick so
okay that's pretty much yeah you that's the whole summary the whole movie in one paragraph uh the
star is of course the rob dear dick paul rodriguez ryan dunn terry kennedy shout out the fly
society ryan sheckler adam white
which his I and D.B.
picture where he looks old as shit
now.
Brendan Miller,
C.C. Sheffield,
Jordan and
Valichich,
Yancey, Eris,
and so on.
Like we said,
cameos. I'm sure there's probably some
skate cameos that you recognize that I
don't recognize, but there was cameos
by a big,
Black Boykins,
uh,
drama,
Christopher Drama Path.
And,
uh,
did you ever
see anybody else in there?
Um,
I'm not too hip on the,
on these new rippers.
Oh,
uh,
that are out there.
I mean,
the only one that I caught was,
uh,
Carl Watson.
He was,
um,
that they have him as the
roster guy that answers the door when,
um,
Ryan Dunn was getting,
uh,
the,
the coffee cream.
stuff.
Is that petulia smell?
Can you do that?
Is coffee creamer flammable?
I didn't know until watching this movie.
I was trying to figure out what he was doing with all the creamer.
And then he was dumping it off the second floor of the hotel they were at.
And then it just ignited.
And I was very confused.
What the fuck just happened?
His buddy was at the bottom.
what was his name?
I think his name was Terry or Reese,
but he's Terry Kennedy in the film.
Or his real name is Terry Kennedy.
He's a real skateboarder.
He was Reese.
He was the black guy.
He was down the bottom with a lighter or something.
And then Ryan Dunn, Crash or Cash was his name.
He was dumping that stuff off the energy.
Boys and girls don't try that,
Especially young boys,
don't try that shit.
You'll burn your house down.
I'm sure somebody did.
Yeah,
I mean,
I don't know what's in Kramer and I don't drink coffee.
So I don't know.
Whatever's in is flammable.
So watch your cigarettes when you're dumping that in your coffee.
But as far as the skateboarders,
all of them,
the main guys,
Paul Rodriguez,
Rob Deardek,
Terry Kennedy,
Ryan Shekler and
there was a bunch of other dudes
that were in it just were out there skating
and a lot of just extras
a lot of rippers that came to the park
I guess that skate park
they used in Ohio that was
the park that Rob Deerick
paid for and designed
there was a little
faulty on one of the designs
because they were going down
doing tricks down one of those rails
and the landing wasn't
very much because then you just rolled right into
the grass. I was like, man, who designed that part?
But anyway, it's just what I caught.
But
this movie, I mean, I thought it was
good.
Rob Deerdick, everyone knows
who he is. Paul Rodriguez,
I mainly know his dad,
the comedian Paul Rodriguez.
So, and he looks
just like him, a younger version
of him. So
it's cool. I had
I remember when I first found out
that his son was a skateboarder
And I was like, oh, cool.
So I watched his earlier videos.
And he's a dad now.
So I think he's got a daughter.
And just watching him come up in the skate game.
I thought that was cool.
And I thought he did a really good job in this.
I don't know if this was this very first time acting.
But it was, the acting wasn't the greatest in this.
But, I mean, they're skateboarders.
They're not actors.
So, I mean, you can, you can.
look the other way with it.
As Rob Deerick said,
this was a movie
written and made
for skaters by skaters, which
was cool. So I thought that was awesome.
I actually, I think
Rob did a fucking great job in a movie
because I was just telling my
wife for somebody that's so
likable
that you see on TV all the time.
He played a fucking
asshole in this movie throughout
majority of the movie.
Yeah, man.
I was like,
okay,
it was good that he wasn't the main star.
Mm-hmm.
Because, yes,
he was one of the writers,
Rob Deirdick,
Elisa Delson,
and Nino Sicala or whatever.
Those three wrote the story for this.
I mean,
it was Rob Deardke's idea and story,
but he needed someone
to actually turn his story
into a screenplay.
So he got one of his friends and they got another friend and they said,
all right,
let's do this.
And they did it.
From what I understand,
he was shopping it around,
but nobody really wanted it.
They were like,
nah,
there's too much cussing in this.
I mean,
you got a bunch of nobody's in it.
I'm sure he was trying to sell it as just as a movie,
but to the regular Hollywood people or whoever are the ones of Greenlight's
movies and puts them out.
they don't know any of these people as far as the skateboarders.
And because I'm sure Rob did, they say, man, there's a big audience for this.
There's millions and millions of skaters out there that will come watch it.
And let's just do it.
But they're like, eh, it was too big of a risk for them to go, all right, we'll do it.
So, but I, he said he, they took it on tour.
They went and did it all.
over different kinds of places, but
just nobody went and seen it.
Yeah, the skateboarders all went out and saw it,
but it just didn't make any
kind of an impact as far as
box office.
So, I was like, I mean, that would suck
because he was telling a story about it.
He goes, yeah, I put in like over a million
dollars of his own money.
And, I mean, that's dedication
for your, to make a film.
like that.
A big production.
I mean, it wasn't just him and his friends in a camera.
I mean, this was an actual movie movie where they had probably multiple cameras,
especially dealing with the skateboarding.
You got to do that one trick over and over and over again with multiple shots.
And as well as adding the music, because the only two songs in this that I recognized in it
that were pretty, I guess,
hits was
that one Lincoln Park
in the beginning.
I don't know
all Lincoln Park songs,
but there was one of theirs
in the beginning,
and I'm sure
that probably cost some money
unless Rob knows them
and they just said,
yeah, use it.
Eric B. and Rockin.
Rock Kim,
Don't sweat the technique.
Those are the only two songs
that I knew that were in this.
And there was some other ones,
but I don't know
who those artists were.
Yeah,
they had a couple songs by Nause.
And there was,
There was some recognizable music in there.
Yeah, so I'm sure if they didn't let him use it, maybe I'm sure you had to pay them to put their music in his film.
The thing that I liked at the very beginning, right before we actually see anything, it says there are 13 million skateboarders in the United States alone.
10 million identify themselves as street skaters.
This is their story.
I thought that was a good little
summary kind of
right from the beginning of what
the skate culture is
I mean skate culture to me is
has changed throughout the years
I started skating in the late 70s
and
well I got my first time I got on a board
was in the late 70s my brother had a skateboard
but I actually really got like
dedicated diehard into it in 1980 when I was nine.
So I didn't know it was going to be what it was.
Yes, we had the skateboarders of the 70s and everything.
And we didn't just before we dove into all the Bones Brigade and all of them in the 80s.
But I mean, skateboarding was always there.
Me growing up in Oakland and us living on a hill.
Butboarding and all that didn't think that this was going to be a big part of my life and it still is today
I ride my skateboard pretty much every single day unless it's rain and snowing
But I mean even if it's just from my truck to
To the to the airport terminal where I work
I mean that that's skateboarding man I'm on there and I ride around even if I get a break at work
Not doing tricks or anything I'm just rolling around
and everything, but I mean, that to me, that's skateboarding.
I mean, doesn't matter, doesn't matter what you ride, it's that you ride.
And that, that's what I, that's what I mean when, when you talk about skate culture.
Just, especially now from what these, these cats are out there, these guys and gals that are out there doing it, man.
It's there and they were nobody was doing the tricks that they do now, back when I was out there doing my thing when I was young.
Yeah, we had kickflips and we had impossibles and everything, but a lot of it was just not doing all this crazy big things.
Nobody was going this big unless you were riding half pipes or pools or anything.
Nobody was going this big.
I mean, going big to us was trying to allie down a huge set of stairs or landing that and then trying kick flips down it.
But then all these different flip tricks and then guys started doing rails.
and everything in it
and just the crazy combos
from flipping tricks to grinds
to just nose pivots
and manuals and everything
somebody probably don't even know
how I'm talking about
but it's just
it's changed
so much
it's raining
I think it is
sorry
luckily I skated already
but
I
from 70's
skateboarding for just skinny little boards, clay wheels, or the urethane wheels that came later.
But it's just changed so much.
From a little skinny-ass skateboard to the big giant skateboard we had in the 80s now to the little narrow ones that are the guys that are right now.
That all the boards is, I mean, 80s was all different kinds of shapes.
Now everybody's board is the exact same shape, either it's wider or thinner or lower.
longer or shorter, but it's still that same shape the way it is.
And when we were out there, man, we only had tails.
There was no no flipped up noses, no concave.
These were flat skateboards.
And we were out there doing it.
I mean, I ride one now I hooked up a cruiser board that I ride around that's flat as a board.
But, I mean, that's, I had to get used to that again because I was so used to the skateboards in this one.
But in this film, it spoke to me not just as a skateboarder.
It spoke to me as what this young character or what this Paul Rodriguez, Derek Cabrera was his name.
What he was going through in his life.
Because this is just a basic story of this guy I love skateboarding, hangs out with his buddies.
and one of them is sponsored
and he wants to be sponsored.
That was something that was with us.
I mean, if not all of us,
maybe one of us would be sponsored by anything.
None of us ever did.
I'm not saying I'm sponsored by them,
but I get flow to some free trucks
when I'm around them.
But they, to me, that's a sponsor.
I've been riding for Avenue.
trucks for the past couple years.
And I haven't paid for skateboard trucks for the last four years.
So, I mean, in my eyes, I would say that they sponsored me for riding trucks.
They needed fat, heavy riders to test out these skateboard trucks.
But anyway, but what, so Derek Cabrero was just coming up.
He was still at home.
He was a high school kid, living with his mom and dad.
and just skating and having a good time.
He had his girlfriend,
just how he was living his life was skateboarding was the number one thing.
And watching this,
I was like,
damn,
that's how I was.
I mean,
yes,
I went to school and I still lived at home.
Yeah.
I wouldn't really say had girlfriends.
Let's just say I had friends.
But not doing good in school.
because all he was thinking about was skateboarding.
All he was thinking about was landing that big trick.
And that's how we all were.
We were always trying something new.
We wanted to land this one trick.
And we eventually did land them.
But going to school every day and just not even giving a fuck about school and anything else.
Just pure skateboarding.
And that's all we thought about.
And then the girls come in.
Kind of slow rolls for a little bit.
But because it starts out with just these guys out there just having a good time skateboarding.
I mean, everyone, just whole crew, Derek and his crew, everyone just ripping it up.
I don't know if they were at a school or wherever they were.
The cops show up.
And that's what put a big smile on my face because soon as a cop shows up, someone just yells out, pigs, 50, one time.
Whatever you guys call the cops today.
it was pigs in one time when I was out there doing it and everybody just fucking took off
I was just like yeah I mean that it was it's just bring me back to I'm I don't run from
cops now I'll just too fat to run I'll just take the ticket if I get busted but I mean
that it was cool because everyone just just jetted and everyone was running for the fence and
climbing over and Ryan Dunn said it best man
Because when one of the guys, I believe it was Mickey, the guy that was the camera guy.
Man, why'd you guys wait for me?
And Ryan Dunn Cash, he was like, hey, man, everyone's for everyone for themselves when the cops show up.
And that's true, man, because as soon as you, someone yells cops, everyone just, every direction takes off.
And if you get caught, I mean, that's on you.
Mikey was a good dude, though.
he even had time to pick up what's his name shoe
Terry Kennedy's shoe that he lost running
He's like here you forgot this
I mean that that was cool
I mean that was a good opening other than just watching these guys rip
This this cool spot
I always say this when I talk about skateboarding you young guys and gals today
You guys don't know how lucky you guys have it
we didn't have skate parks when we were growing up.
There's like skateboard parks on fucking every corner and every little town,
every little city in the planet,
even in other parts of the world.
I mean, skateboarding is that big.
I know there was time in the 80s when they were saying it kind of died out.
I never thought so because I always had a skateboard and I was still able to do it whenever I could.
So it never really died out to me
But I wasn't in that lifestyle of being in the spotlight for riding a skateboard
So I can understand when the pros were saying that skateboard died out
Much less being a skateboard company
In those dark times of skateboarding
But yeah so after all that and everyone we meet Derek and his crew
Cash Troy Reese and Mikey
Troy Rob Deeradette
I mean, he's awesome.
I do watch his ridiculous and whatever that new show he's got going on.
Every crew has that dick, that hater.
No matter what, but you guys have been friends so long, you just deal with him.
I won't say who that is that was in my crew, and we've gotten to many fist fights, but we're still boys.
Everybody has a Troy.
Yeah.
I still got that love for my brother, man.
We've been there through thick and thin, just duped it out.
I don't know how many times, but we always still friends today.
Yeah, this Troy, though, is a little, I, me speak just the way I grew up,
because there's a scene in a movie where he's supposed to be lookout,
and he purposely lets them get arrested.
See.
Where I grew up, that's, that's the equivalent of snitching, right?
There that's they're,
we're not shaking hands and.
Yeah.
I mean,
we,
we all,
I mean,
this,
at points in this movie,
it was like,
man,
someone was following us around the camera and stealing everything
that happened to us because that,
exactly that scene.
That's what happened.
One,
one of my boys,
the other one that's,
I don't know if he listens to the show,
but if he is,
he knows who,
he knows what I'm talking about.
But I was like,
damn.
I mean,
I mean,
that's,
That's, it was just pure haters.
That's it.
There was no way around it.
I mean,
even there was another character and a Brad,
the little jog boy that used to skateboard with him,
but now he thought he was too cool.
He ain't no real skater.
No, hell no, he ain't.
You talk about how I grew up.
I was like, shut the fuck out.
See, that was a motherfucker.
We beat up all the time.
But yeah, so Derek,
he's just doing his skateboarding,
having fun of his friends still at home goes
to school not giving a fuck he's got
a girlfriend and
she's a cheerleader
Derek Cabrero he
he's Mexican and his
girlfriend's blonde white cheerleader
and she
wants to pull him
into this different lifestyle
right there
with that with Derek and his
girlfriend I think her name was Samantha
played by Jordan
Valorich
I think that's a
Valor
something whatever
yeah
again I had friends
I didn't have girlfriends
I didn't have time
for girlfriends
I mean I was too busy
skating and living life
but
there was one of my friends
that I was kind of messing around with
she
she that's why I was like
damn man
someone stole my whole story
but it was like this
I was in a situation of this
yeah for those of the news of the show
I'm Native American and dark skin long hair.
Metal head skateboarder.
And she was, this is how we always did it.
I lived down in the flatlands of Oakland.
She lived up in the hills of Oakland.
And up in the hills was the more the rich kids and the little hood kids were down here where I lived.
And some people might have said, oh, she was just slumming it with a little dark skinned boy down in the flat.
I didn't care, man.
I didn't see skin color or anything, man.
She was cool when I met her and then, yeah, anyway.
But yeah, his girlfriend was, she was cheerleaders, just about the party.
And then there was this other guy, Brad, that used to want to, they used to skate with them,
but then he just grew up, quote, unquote, and became this rich boy asshole because he was having a party.
and speaking of Brad he was um
a young
uh
bison and uh tree fighter
the legend of Chun Lee
I had to go back
I was reading what because I looked at him
and I'm like where have I seen this guy
so I looked at up and I went
ah
I hate this kid even more now
but anyway
um
So yeah, they went to some party
And he didn't want to go
But she was like I want you there
I want you there
He gets there's girlfriend's already drunk
And again I went through the same situation
Yeah come to this party and I get there
Well I didn't roll in her by myself
I always rolled deep with my crew
Now some my friends that I was came with all the time
Didn't go to same school I went to
So
We'd go up into the hills to some rich kids house
And
I was nothing but Brad's in there
Just fucking
And we, the thing it was, they used to be cool when we were younger, but then as they got older
and the girls came along and then they have cars and they want to be cool.
And it's like they didn't even want to be friends with me anymore.
So I was like, well, you guys want a true friend to begin with.
So, but yeah, Brad, clearly you can see he was trying to get on Samantha.
And Derek knew, but I don't think really, Derek really cared.
but his girlfriend was just all about the party.
She was all fucking drunk already there.
I was always wondering when we went to these parties,
where everyone got the kegs from?
All teenagers.
Yeah, well, when there's a bunch of brads,
there's a certain kind of privilege that comes with that.
But not every party,
was bad. I mean, I had been to plenty
ragers and had a good time with
a lot of guys up in the hills. But
this Brad dude, man,
I just didn't even like his face, the
way he looked. Who knows? Maybe this guy
is, this, uh, Brendan Miller is a
cool cat, but he played
the asshole jock
rich boy in, in this
movie. So I'm glad he wasn't in it
very long, but
Derek just
got fed of them. I mean, fuck this. I mean, this
ain't my scene. You're a drunk bitch. I'm
out of here. So he, but she
And I like the way
he handle it too, especially.
And I've known
girls like this because they,
they see each other again at school.
And in her mind,
that never happened. And he's
just kind of looking at her like,
I'm not breaking up with you because I
already broke up with you. It's over.
This is not working.
They didn't break up at the party. They broke up at that
barbecue or whatever.
Oh, when, when her dad called him
what do you call him?
Immigrant.
Yeah.
I mean, again,
I went through that.
So that's what I was like,
God damn, man.
In the film,
Derek goes to this barbecue
what's going on
at Samantha's house.
Her whole family's there,
dad, everybody.
And Brad.
Yeah, and Brad.
He's there.
And the dad don't give a fuck.
His name is Dan Reynolds,
played by Peter Reck.
Raquel or I think that's his name.
But she's like, yeah, you should come to party.
My dad's got a surprise for you.
And Paul, Derek's like, all right.
So he shows up and sees Brad there.
And her dad comes over.
Yeah, Brad's here.
He's a cool guy.
Whatever, whatever.
Then he comes over.
Her dad starts talking to Derek.
Hey, man.
He goes, just after you graduate, man, I can hook you up with a job wherever he works.
He goes, we'll start you off in the mail room.
And then Derek's kind of like, uh,
I don't know if I really see myself being in the mail room.
And then when his dad, the true colors came out.
And he goes, well, if you don't like that, we can put you in the warehouse with the other immigrants.
Ooh.
It wasn't said to me that way, but that's the way it was said to me.
Her dad knew I was native.
And that's when they just not in these words.
Only good Indian is a dead Indian.
He didn't say those exact words, but that's what he meant.
when he said it to me.
And I was like, really, all right.
Was I, did I really?
I thought she was cool in the beginning.
And then it just came down to a messing around type of thing.
And then I just got sick of her.
I wouldn't say we broke up because we were never really together.
It was more of just, hey, a hookup whenever we could.
But anyway.
Yeah, friends with benefits.
Yeah.
So Derek was like, you know what?
man, fuck that.
And then his dad was, he was like, man, fuck you.
I'm out of here.
So he was getting relieved and Samantha goes, no, I want you to stay.
And he goes, no, you're fucking dad's a racist.
And he's like, now he's not.
He goes, well, do you think you're too good and all this?
And he was like, just fuck you, bitch, I'm out of here.
He didn't say those words, but that, that's what he was saying.
Because she was, she seemed like she was drunk already at her family party.
Mm-hmm.
And she was like, well, you don't need we get out of here.
You're a loser.
Go fucking.
with your friends or whatever.
So he was like,
pull your pants up.
I know, man.
I was a fucking bitch.
Sorry,
girls,
but that would have been the young me.
I'm too old for all that now.
But then that was a thing,
though.
I mean,
that's why this movie spoke to me.
I was like,
God damn,
man.
I went through shit like this,
multiple times with the parents.
and I don't know anyway
so
he's just like
all right man whatever
but um
they uh
who is it um
Troy Rob Deirder
he was going to be in a
a skate contest that was going on in Tampa
but um
he was bringing his whole crew with him
but Derek was trying this
this trick
uh that he wanted to do because he wanted to go down to that
to that amateur contest as well
and try to enter.
But if he figured if he landed this
trick, this big trick, he was
thinking of...
Yeah, the knack.
Yeah, maybe it would...
Not a chance.
Oh, maybe it would
help him get sponsored.
Because he was looking for that big trick.
I mean, there was
the skate companies
that were interested in him,
because he was trying to put this
sponsor me video together.
So his big trick was
a tray flip,
crooked grind
down this rail.
Some of you probably don't know what I'm talking about.
Basically,
kick the board 360 and it flips to land on the very front truck.
And on just the front and kind of like a combo of the truck touching the rail and your nose of the skateboard and slide down and then just landing.
Just type in YouTube.
You guys interested in one.
I'm just 360 crooked grind.
That's what it is.
or watch street dreams.
It's on YouTube.
And you can see what he was trying to do.
So that's what he was trying to do.
They found a rail that they all wanted to do.
So they're like, hey, man, let's go here and we'll do it.
So they go there one night and they find out that the rail has these little skateboard stoppers.
Basically, someone just welded on some nuts, not nuts, but those like bolt screw heads or whatever onto the,
onto the rail and there's a lot of things you can do to things to prevent skaters from skating
it but these guys I mean they were all about it and it was obviously a perfect rail for them to
do so they Derek came over the idea you know what let's go back and we're going to cut those
those little knobs off and then we're going to get that rail so but I mean in between all the
the acting and everything there was there was a lot of
lot of good skateboarding, uh, of them just out there doing tricks, mainly Rob and
and Derek and whoever else was around as well as, uh, Reese, uh, the young black
gentleman that was with him.
Yeah, uh, Ryan Dunn just occasionally carried a skateboard around.
Yeah, Ryan Dunn was the, uh, uh, um, what do you call him?
This is comedic relief.
Yeah, like the comic relief, which I always figured that I was, I don't know why.
Maybe it's just because him being.
and close friends with band margera i always figured that he at least knew how to ride a skateboard but i
didn't see him not once step on a skateboard no all he did did he was there but he all he did was
party and drink and uh when the cop showed him he just ran um because it because it looked like the one kid
learned enough to at least ride it the one i played mike yeah i mean he didn't do no tricks but at least
you know he looked capable of going forward on which is a lot more than i could do so uh yeah
ryan dunn's character cash i mean again that's what i liked about this movie everyone's got
a cash in their crew as well everyone's got a troll asshole troy and everyone's got a hell of funny
and uh keep everyone together cash i mean because it Ryan done to me he stole this whole movie every scene he
had and he was in this lot.
It sucks that he's no longer with us.
I met Ryan Dunn once at
a Comic Con for the Jackass 3D party and he
was fucking cool.
He was so cool. We sat there and
bullshitted fucking ate burgers and powered a couple of beers and laughed
around.
Just that little time that I got to share with him,
I just thought he was an awesome guy.
It sucked on how he passed
in a car accident.
but man he's going to be missed um and watching this film with him in it i was like damn man i just
it sucks man i mean we all got to go at some point but it was it was just it was just sad
when i when i found out that that he had passed but yeah man he was fucking hilarious
everything he said it was always something raunchy and just that was my other buddy man he
was like exactly like him.
Oh, he's did crazy as shit.
Made us laugh all the time.
And I know he's living in San Francisco somewhere, but he's, you don't skate anymore.
But he, he was, he was our cash, man.
But, so, so they go back.
They try to cut the, the knobs off with, I don't know, like a sand grinder or something.
To cut those bolts off.
But they were like, all right, Troy, you're going to be.
over there across the street in the parking lot
and if you see the cops call
Reese, Reese will come over and tell us, we'll turn
off the lights and hide if the cops
show up. So Derek
and
Mikey, Mikey is the one that
brought the little
grinder thing.
So Derek's the one starting to cut it
and they're kind of worried that it's kind of loud
but they're like, ah, Reese
and Troy said they couldn't hear it, so they were all
good. But then
they didn't, I don't know why they didn't notice
this but there was a security camera pointing down right onto them to where they were
and uh Troy Troy's sitting there in the car and here comes the police car
Troy pulls out his phone he looks at it and this fuck that I mean earlier also I mean
go back really quick earlier in the film Troy and Derek kind of got into it because
there's they were dude they were just trying to do tricks scape or
But, I mean, you got that Troy that's just, he was the one that was sponsored.
He was considered the best out of their crew.
And Derek was just trying to, trying to get his and come up.
And Troy was hating that Derek is getting better.
I mean, just skateboarding, man.
It's, it's not a contest.
But to, I mean, yeah, to us.
And it got a little competition
Got into little competitions every now and then
But um
Troy was just like
Just being that asshole like man
You'll never make that trick you're trying
And you're never gonna be anything
I mean it's
It was sad and it sucked and it made me mad
But yeah man I heard that shit too
With my buddy but
I mean Troy was another level
of just he was willing to let his boys go down
by the cops then and then try to help
I was like damn because it
when the cops were rolling by Troy had his phone out
getting ready to call text them
and he just turned his phone off and set it down
and then the cops came up
Reese saw him then
and he was like man don't stop don't stop
and then they stopped and Reese
I don't know why he ran out in front of the cops
he should have ran the other direction
but he was going to go tell his boys that the cops were coming.
So the cops, he's like, I got cops, cops.
And they're like, I don't know why they just didn't drop everything and run,
but I understood Mikey.
It was actually his uncle's equipment.
And he was like, I can't leave it here.
My uncle kill me.
Yeah, it was a generator, lights and tools and just like the whole,
I could see him not wanting to leave his uncle's equipment.
Yeah, so they get busted.
The cops like, don't run.
I mean, they didn't even try to run.
They were like, I mean, Derek was a cool kid.
He wasn't just going to let Mikey go down by himself.
So I was like, all right, man, I'll stay here.
And the cops took him.
But, okay, let me go back a little bit more.
I jumped at the gun.
Earlier in the film, when we were talking about that Derek was just fucking up in school,
his parents found out he had missed like seven days of school this school year.
And they were just trying to come on, man, you got to go to school.
And his counselors were like, I know, I know you can do the work.
And I know you're smart.
You just got to put yourself more into your schoolwork and leave skateboarding.
Or not leave it, but just kind of set it aside for a while and concentrate on the schoolwork.
Mom and dad were the same way.
Come on.
You're throwing your life away.
Why don't you just finish school so you can go to college and all that?
I mean, the stuff that every parent has said, I've said it to my kids as well.
But, and he was just, he was all about skateboarding.
And again, that was me.
I did, I did well enough to graduate.
And I mean, did I do my best?
No.
Am I blaming skateboarding?
No, I can't blame skateboarding.
It was my choice.
I mean, life is full of choices.
And I chose to skateboard and run around, be stupid.
then really concentrate on my schoolwork.
But I got to give a shout out to my buddy Terry.
He was in 10th grade and I was a senior.
If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have graduated.
He was my little skateboard buddy.
He'd go, come on, let's go skate.
And I said, I got to do this schoolwork.
And he would sit down and just fucking, if he didn't give me the answers,
he would just, okay, do it like this, do it like this.
He helped me through my whole senior year.
And that little motherfucker, I give him all the credit.
it for him helping me pass my senior year.
So Terry, brother, if you're listening, I love you, man.
I don't know if you're still skating, but anyway.
So he was battling that.
And his mom and dad, or mainly his dad, was just on his case all the time.
So back, the cops got him.
They got Derek.
They got Mikey.
I don't know if they went to jail.
Did they just go to, like, security?
There was, I think it was one of those, like, little.
police little
kind of
like we have a
we have a bunch here they're like little
little kind of offices or whatever
I thought they were like on a college
campus or something and this was yeah
they usually they usually have
like like there's a mall here where there's like
it says the police department but it's just like a little
office that they have access to
and I think it was kind of like that
Yeah, I figured it was that because they just confiscated all their stuff and told them
said, look, man, you're not going to get this back for like until like a month or something
like that.
So, Mike, you're like, well, all right, I'll get yelled at.
At least I get it back.
But Derek's dad came and the cops told and said, yeah, man, they were out there after vandalizing
the rail.
And this is why he goes, well, I'm not going to press any charges.
not too much damage was done.
I don't even think he got that first little nut off.
I think he just started and that's when the cops showed up.
So they just let him go to his dad.
So as he's driving home,
he drops off Mikey,
get out and tell your friends.
You can't see them for a while.
But when Derek gets home,
this is when his dad really,
really dives into him.
I can understand on how Derek felt.
And as a father,
I can understand his his side of it.
Yeah, because in this little,
this little argument,
it's,
it's not long,
this whole scene,
but you get a lot out of it.
I mean,
he's coming at his dad,
basically,
he was like,
you don't even like mom.
And you're,
you're upset at me because I didn't become a baseball player.
And you try to become one and you failed at it.
And it's like a lot of stuff gets dropped here within these,
like,
Three minute, three minute scene.
I don't even think it was that.
It seemed, it seemed short.
I played the very, some of the clip in the very beginning.
You guys didn't know what that was.
But I was like, man, I mean, I understood Derek side of it.
Like, I'm just, I'm skateboarding.
I'm trying to do something with myself.
I mean, trying to be a professional skateboarder.
Yeah, maybe been not back in my day.
They were getting paid.
Now these guys today, man, these guys that do make it, man.
they make good money with all their sponsorships and everything.
But as far as you making that money, don't be stupid with it.
Because a lot of skateboarders get all this big money thrown at them and they party and buy
cars and houses and dumb.
And then something had happened.
You could hurt yourself.
And it just, it can all go away.
All that money can just stop.
But you don't have anymore because you just blew through it all for nothing.
in the life of the party.
But yeah, I understood Derek's side of it about I wanted to be a professional skateboard and I could see his dad's part of it.
But his dad came at him like, you're doing something that doesn't mean anything.
It's a waste of time.
You're, you're vandalizing private property.
But Derek says, he goes, look, man, we were just having fun at skateboarding.
He goes, it's not like I went in there and robbed that building.
I mean, see, it's two different sides, which I can see both sides.
Did I get into it with my parent?
Maybe it wasn't my dad or my mom over, yeah, skateboarding and not going to school and all that.
Because his dad, his dad threw everything at him.
Like, you're not doing good in school.
You're cutting school and you're running around being stupid with your friends and you're skateboarding.
You're out vandalizing.
He threw it.
It was a lot of stuff built up that he just, his dad exploded.
on him and Derek
he exploded on him too
because like Brian said he goes yeah
you dare when he was going off because you don't even
like mom you don't like me or you're
you're mad that I was born and
and you hate your life and you hate your job
and all this but
his dad was like what
they kind of cut him off though
I mean because his dad was man I did fucking
everything for you
I understood that too
I was like I mean I
think back on what my parents did
their sacrifice of what they did for us.
And I was like, yeah, I mean, being a father, I can understand that.
And I've said that to my kids as well.
Look, man, I've done fucking everything for you guys.
Don't act like I don't.
And I still do everything.
Talking to my daughter right now.
But I still do everything for them.
All of them.
Even my grandsons, I do stuff with them.
I'll always do stuff for them no matter what.
It changes when you become a parent because I talk.
my kids all the time. If you
did the shit that I did
when I was your age, I would
kick your ass.
And I'm just,
I mean, my, my, my oldest,
they, they, they, they, they,
they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they,
nowhere near the level I was. So,
yeah, you, you're, you're right, man. You, you, you,
you understand both sides, you know, uh, you know,
coming up the way we did. And then now being fathers,
you see you sympathize with both sides.
Yeah, man, I thought that that was a powerful scene to me out of the whole film.
And Paul Rodriguez, I don't, again, I don't know if he's done more, if he's done acting before this.
I thought that was, I thought he did an awesome performance in that scene.
I bought it.
I heard what he was saying.
I heard what his dad was saying.
I mean, I never seen his dad and anything else, but,
but that,
that scene,
that scene,
that part got me.
I was like,
damn.
I mean,
and again,
being on both sides of that argument.
Oh,
he's in that Selena show.
Is he?
He plays,
uh,
Roger Garcia.
I don't.
It's,
it says recurring roles,
so.
Um,
I would have to see.
I'm thinking he is one of the music guys that they were dealing with.
There's no pictures of Selena in this.
But yeah, I think he was just one of the music views they were dealing with in that whole series.
Yeah, they don't show anything.
I just, I assume he was one of them.
You know what he was.
Okay, I see a picture now.
Yeah, he was one of the dudes in the music industry.
He popped in there a few times.
But again, I felt that that scene.
And then to where Derek was like, man, fuck this.
He ran inside, grabbed the skateboard and what he could grab and just took off.
Called up his buddies because everyone was getting ready to go to Tampa the next day.
He was like, hey, man, do you guys leave yet?
And he goes, nah, man, we're getting ready to go.
He goes, all right, man, well, if it's cool, I'm coming.
And they're like, oh, fuck, yeah.
So they all pile into the car and take off.
Earlier in the film, they all went to, this all took place in Chicago.
And they all went to Ohio to some skate park.
And they were out there just skating because they heard this was the place to go.
So they were out there skating.
and they said there was other pros.
You can get into your guy, huh?
What's good?
Oh, Ryan Schaeckler.
He was cool in this movie, but again.
Bieber haircut.
That show he did, man, ruined it for me, man.
I was just like, how you just seemed like a spoiled little brat in that his little reality show he had.
But anyway, I thought he did a good job.
I'd seen him act and other things.
I mean, if he continues to act, cool.
I mean, I think he can do it.
I mean, playing a little bit parts like this,
I don't know if he can carry a whole movie or not.
But I thought every time he was on the screen when he was acting,
I thought he did a good job.
So when they get down there, they're all skating and ripping.
Troy's trying to do his run to get ready for the contests.
and Derek's out there going big,
trying to do his big trick,
the knack.
That's what they were calling it throughout the whole movie.
And Mikey was filming him,
but then Troy was like,
come on, man, I got this line.
Come over and film me.
You're like, fuck him.
He's nobody.
Come over and help me.
So Mikey's like, all right.
So he goes over because Troy is not, man.
Or Derek's like, go ahead, go film him.
So while Derek's out there skating around
and then he kind of runs into Eric is Ryan Schaeckler and then
no no he he Derek goes and sits down for a minute and I don't know why he went right up to that girl and sat right next to her
I would yeah I thought she was pretty hot Cc Sheffield she played Taylor
I like them cool girls and the Chuck Taylor's yeah that smoke
so he went up and I just started talking to her and then that's when Eric come Ryan Schaker comes
riding up oh hey what's up oh that was awesome trick you're trying to do over there what is it
they kind of get into it uh talking about it and they find out that yeah we're we're going to
Tampa too oh maybe I'll see you down there so they kind of hey they Derek and Taylor kind of hit
it off a little bit and then they there goes back to trying his trick and then Troy's over
there trying to do his his little run but can't do it he's just fuck getting mad I mean all right
this is something that that that I would bring up.
These guys,
these actors,
these characters that are in this film,
they did,
of course,
they're skateboarders and they did everything.
Mainly,
Paul Rodriguez,
when he's trying to do that
tray flip crook on that rail,
I'm sure he has done it many times before.
But to pretend that you can't land it,
I mean,
they're in the air they mean they're going big on all these tricks
I mean
I guess you can just go up and then hit it and just jump right off
but I mean these are these are like stunt guys
that do I mean they did all their own skateboarding there was no
alright I can't do this trick I'm gonna bring somebody else in
but I was I was giving it I was giving it to them like
them going up doing that trick
other than Allian really high and hitting that
the front of his board,
excuse me,
on the rail,
but then bailing.
I mean,
it's,
it's like playing Russian roulette.
Yeah,
you can probably bail the trick,
but you don't know
which way your board's going to go
when you kick it away
or if he,
he kind of leapt forward.
I was like,
damn.
I mean,
because even at the end
when he was trying that trick
when he was falling,
like he was almost getting it
and falling.
And it didn't look like
he landed it
and then just kicked it.
away. Real
quick question. Do you think he really
wrecked his nuts
later on in the movie?
No.
For a second there, I was like,
you're fucking dedicated, because
that looked like it fucking hurt
a lot. I don't
know. Maybe it might have.
I don't know. He just
his acting, but.
Shout out to Mikey.
He's like, I'll get your ice pack.
He's like, you're going to ice down
my nuts.
But, I mean, again, I'll give it to these guys, man.
I mean, even Rob Deer, Troy, I can't, don't really remember what he was trying to do,
but it wasn't on anything really high.
I mean, Derek was over there trying to do it on his tricks onto a handrail.
And Derek was just trying to do it up on the ledge of this block.
And he kept messing up and getting all mad.
And then, I mean, Troy got so mad.
And Derek was almost getting it.
And he had, like, everybody over there watching.
watching him yeah, hyping him up. That's another thing that I loved.
When you're trying something big and your boys are there or just whoever's there and
everyone's watching you and come on, come on. I mean, just just hyping you up to do it.
Shout out to my buddy Gav. We had many, many hype sessions. It was like if we both be trying
the same trick and sometimes I would land first and then sometimes he would, but we would
pump each other up.
And everyone I've skateboarded with my whole life,
GAV was the one that always hyped me up.
I mean,
just so many times like,
ah,
fuck.
We always had that same attitude.
Like,
well,
shit,
if you can do it,
I can do it.
So it was like that.
But it was never like a competition,
like how Troy was a Derek.
Troy was just flat out hater.
He wanted to be number one.
But I like that scene,
though,
because Troy was just so mad.
He couldn't get,
his, the tricks he was trying.
So he was like, fuck it, man.
Let's go.
And then they're like, what are you doing, man?
D's about to land it.
And he goes, I don't give a fuck.
I drove you guys down here.
It's my ride.
Let's go.
So Derek and everyone were like, man, whatever.
Let's go.
I mean, you can't argue with your ride, especially when he drove from another state.
So he's, you got to jump in.
But Troy was that asshole.
I mean, it was hard to see Rob Deerick as that.
Because you see him on TV.
I don't know.
this guy how he is in real life,
but I assume he's cool.
My buddy knows him,
and he never says anything bad about him.
But he,
when we see him on TV,
I think that's how he is.
Hell of cool,
hella funny.
Yeah,
I heard he's very,
he's very nice,
very generous person in real life.
So it's,
it's really crazy to kind of see him in this role,
which there are at times where I feel like he kind of holds back,
just because I think,
in real life he's just that nice of a guy.
Yeah, I mean, it was, it was tough for me to buy it from him on being this asshole.
So I was, all right, man, but he's acting.
Good for him.
I mean, I didn't buy it, but he did what he had to do.
That was a, that was a surprise.
Because when you hear this is a film made by Rob Derrida, you figured he would be the star of this thing.
And he wasn't.
So, I mean, to me right there, that shows.
you how awesome this guy.
Look, I wrote this.
I'm putting my money in,
but I'm going to let my buddy be the star.
Yeah,
because I want to say he specifically picked Paul Rodriguez
to be the star of this movie.
So they end up leaving,
and then, yeah,
they go through the whole police thing
and the rail and all that.
And then Derek gets into his dad.
They leave and the fucking I'm going to Tampa with everyone.
So they start making their way down to Tampa.
They get down there.
and then they get to the to the little motel where they're staying and this is where they're out there playing skate with some other skateboarders and Troy goes and gets the room and this is when Cash and Reese are running from room to room trying to get all the the the creamery the creamers from for the coffee oh man that was that first one that first room they went it to hey man he goes damn you have to paint
those pants on every day.
And that guy's like,
well,
fuck you.
Well,
take it easy,
Sid vicious.
And then when they go to the next room and all those guys in
all the black guys are in there and they're like,
oh, man.
Excuse me,
Dura,
but can we,
can we scream her?
He tried to go in and everyone was like,
oh, man,
it looks like everyone was going to pull their guns out on them.
He was like,
oh, man,
don't shoot me.
And then he got,
they get on all that.
So Troy's fun.
All right, man,
let's go to the room with our,
before the, oh, no, the security came.
Hey, I got thought to tell you guys to stop skateboarding the parking lot.
And then they're, he's getting, they're all getting yelled at by security.
And then you're here to be, boom, you see that big ball of flames.
It was cash dumping the creamery down on Therese when he was lighting.
I'm going to have to look that up, see if that works.
I won't try it, but.
If it does work, you have, it probably, you probably have to have a lot of it.
Because, yeah, he had it in like, uh, um,
like he's got just a piece of paper and just piled a bunch it looked like there was at least
if not two cups of that powdered creamer so i i don't know there was a lot
because he started dumping it down and then uh rees was at the bottom of the lighter
and then as soon as that flame hit it it went whoo-s that thing was huge and then everyone
was running they all the fucking cash got all burned up uh like singe his face was all
like got
I don't know if it was from the flame or whatever
but he had dark ash
all over his face and
they went into the room
and then
they were just gonna grind
Derek was ready to go to sleep
they're like no man fuck you gotta
we're gonna go party and
they end up going to some bar
and uh
Derek he was underage
it is flammable
oh is it
powdered non-dairy creamer is flammable
if it gets too
anti-caped
I guess that's what it says dispersed in the air like a cloud
it can explode
all right boys and girls don't try it
just watch it in the movie
but cash would have been the one to do that
dumb shit because he
he was crazy this whole movie
so they're at this
just some bar and everyone's in there drinking
and having a good time fucking Troy is just
getting wasted
and um
oh this part was
funny because when
Reese and Derek are talking to some chicks
and Mikey as well
Cash comes around
Oh man, can you guys help me?
He goes, can you see what time it is?
And
yeah, my buddy that was crazy
would do stupid shit like this.
The girls go look down and he
like had his dick out of his pants.
I mean,
was it his no or was it something fake?
They just show it really fast,
but they all went,
ah,
they all start screaming.
And then
the girls walk away
and they're like damn cash what are you doing
because they chase the girls away
but then Troy comes over
and he's he's just being stupid
drunk and gives him shots
and he kind of gets into it with
um
with Derek or Derek's like
yeah man whatever
but then uh
why did that dude come up to them
did they start talking shit
uh
I don't know I think he was just
kind of felt like
maybe he had a problem with Troy
because Troy was at this point
getting drunk and kind of
I don't know
his his attitude was really
coming out that that douche kind of
attitude was coming out so
I think maybe he didn't like
how he was acting and I think they ended
up bumping into each other
yeah because they just
slammed some shots and then when that
dude came over
cash got in between him and Troy was like yeah
fuck you then he leaned over
and bah he leaned over
Bha, he clocked that dude.
He fell on the ground.
And then, uh, Cash just got that dude on the ground just started stomping him.
This is when, uh, Big came running in and, uh, picked him up and took him out.
They carried him outside.
Troy, Troy had, uh, ran off and hid.
Yeah.
And then, uh, because when Big picked him up, he was a security guard.
If big is, uh, what was his name?
His real name, Chris, uh, Chris Boykins.
Yeah.
Uh, he picked him.
him up there's some cops outside I don't talk to you and then so cash ended up spending a night
in the drunk tank and uh the guys were like Troy was out oh man it was awesome you see me beat that
guy's ass or whatever he said and then they're like man I can do that to cash I he's I he's a big
boy you'll be all right they like he ain't been in the drunk tank before and he goes come
on man I'm hungry let's go so they all end up going somewhere to eat and this is when Troy
just it's all fucked up just eating and talking hell of shit and they're like man can
you do this man because that's fucked up he's our boy and then Troy's like fuck you if it wasn't
for me you wouldn't be here he was yelling at Derek and he goes he goes he goes I didn't I didn't
even I was the one that didn't tell you guys that the cops were coming so it got into a big
old argument like man fuck you're the reason that we got arrested and all this and like fuck you and
then Derek's I mean fuck this I'm out of here because Troy just was just being that asshole
So Derek just kind of grabbed his board
And started skating
And then his boys
That Reese and Mikey
Hey, where are you going? Where are you going?
And he just took off
And he ends up running into
Taylor and Eric
So they're like, hey, what are you doing?
I'm just, I'm down there
What'd you do? Skate all over Chicago
And he's like, no, I'm just
Yeah, I'm down here
Yeah, but I kind of lost
My place to crash
And like, hey, well, you can come crash with us
is what Taylor said.
So they're like, all right, cool.
So he jumps in and goes to them to their little motel.
And yeah, it's Eric Taylor and drama.
I don't know what his name was in this.
He was just there.
What's drama's real name?
Chris Paff.
Yeah, him.
Yeah, and his earlier, I don't know if it was later in the movie,
but I know the little montage,
a little skate montage in the beginning.
You can see his brother,
a big cat skating at the skate park.
So they go back to their little room in the,
Taylor and Derek go outside for a smoke,
and they're just talking Eric and drama are in the room.
So when they go out,
they go running to the window and they're peeking out watching them.
And Derek, Derek's talking to her.
Like, yeah, and how come you don't have a girlfriend
or how come you don't have a boyfriend?
just like I got just left this bitch and I just left this dude and they're about to kiss.
And then Eric says something like ooh or whatever and then they go look and then they see a drama's butt pressed up against the window.
And then Taylor goes, you asshole?
And Eric goes, what?
You want to see asshole?
And then drama opens up.
They don't show it.
Drama opens up his cheeks and they go.
and that was the end of the night.
We get that now we're in Tampa.
We're at the skate contest and just a lot of awesome skating.
Other than Derek and Troy and Reese was out there for a little bit,
but then it was just all the people that were in the contest.
They did practice runs,
and then they had two preliminaries,
and then it came down to the finals.
And it was like the top five
We're gonna win this contest
So just a lot of awesome skateboarding
During the prelims and everything
Troy like
Shoulder checks Derek and then they kind of get into a little bit
Like what the fuck? And he goes, you get a fuck out of
Stay out of my way
And he goes, you ain't you ain't gonna do nothing
This is Troy yelling at Derek and Derek
For all the shit that Troy has done up to this point
Derek is still like, man, man, whatever.
He just didn't want to hear it.
I mean, Derek understood why Troy was being the asshole that he is.
So he's like, man, whatever.
Because all his other buddies, man, fucking, man, don't worry about him.
You just worry about it and get yours.
So they're out there doing all the tricks and everything.
Finally comes down to the preliminary run.
And Derek tries his trick but doesn't make it.
But he does.
He skates pretty good.
Troy
he was just doing
watching this the first time I was thinking
he wasn't doing anything big
he was just doing kind of some
basic stuff basic tricks
I couldn't do them
but I mean I'm just saying for to be
trying to win this contest
or mainly so you can get into the finals
you kind of go a little big big
and you can't just go out there
and do the stuff that he was doing
thinking you're going to make it to the finals
So he's like he Troy makes it
And Derek does his run
But he messes up on his last trick
And that's the big NAC that he was trying
The big tray flip crook
Down the rail but he kept messing up
So there um
Dave Duncan was the um
The guy on the mic the announcer the guy that was running the old thing
He's a skateboarder out there
So one of the OG guys
Um so
It was good uh
He's not even listed in any of the credits.
Well, not on IMDB.
I think he did during the movie.
But that was Dave Duncan on the mic.
If you've seen this movie and you didn't know who it was.
But anyway, so yeah, we got the finalists posted over there.
So everyone goes over there.
Troy walks over there.
I love this scene.
Troy is like, fuck, man.
He goes, what?
He's yelling about Derek.
And he goes, man.
And he goes, he gets to be in the finals.
He goes, he fell on his last trick.
And he's just hell of mad that he didn't, he didn't make it into the finals.
And just going, oh, if it wasn't for me, he wouldn't be here and all this.
And then Derek comes over and looks and he sees it.
Eric, Ryan Schaeckler and his sister Taylor come over.
And then that's when Troy's in Derek's face.
And then Eric's like, dude, you go, you did just a basic run.
He goes, you're just mad because his little, his mess up was better than your whole.
run and Troy was like fuck you
you go to who are you you little bitch
beat your ass and I don't know he didn't sell those
say those words but that's what he would say yeah
this is the part where I kind of
felt like the real
rob was not a letting him the acting
rob like like yell at Ryan
Schaeckler or or the
actress playing his sister like because
I don't know like when he started yelling
at her like it sounded like he was
yelling but he was cleaning it up
like he didn't want to go
too hard. Because yeah, because she
was like, yeah, he goes, what do you? Don't, don't
talk to him like that. He turned a shut up, bitch.
And he goes, you get, get out of my
face. And that's when Derek jumped.
Dude, what's the matter to you? Don't be talking like, don't say
none to them like that. And he's like,
fuck you, if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't be
here. And before he got, this, I
love this scene right here.
I'll just play the clip right
here. You're in the finals because
his ending trick was better than your entire run.
Shut the fuck up before I paddle you.
I can give a fuck who you ride for. Leave him
I'm out of this.
You wouldn't even fucking be here in the first place
if it wasn't for me.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, easy up, man.
Can someone get me a fluorescent pink nipple for my dick
so Troy here can feed on it, keep his mouth busy from bitching?
Dude, the little twirp is right.
You laid it safe and now you're paying the price,
so let it go.
It's not even that.
This dude wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for me.
And he wasn't here?
Somebody else would have phased you out, man.
Why you got a problem with him in the first place?
He's not trying to take your spot.
He's trying to make himself one.
Yo, let this arrogant cock sucker be less of you.
You didn't come here to piss out.
Troy, you and I are going to get some popcorn and watch our friend in the finals.
All right.
What Ryan Dunn said, what Ryan Dunn, Cash said to Troy was fucking, it made sense because he just fucked, dude.
He goes, fuck, man.
He goes, he goes, you played it safe and to get to where you were supposed to be at in the contest.
And it wasn't any good.
And he's like, man, this is your buddy, man.
because this is your friend and he goes
fuck and man we're just going to go in there
eat popcorn and watch
our friend
uh
the battle in the finals
you guys heard the clip but i mean i thought
what he said right there was true
he's like man we were friends
we came as friends we need to leave
as friends but i mean that was true though
yeah as much as he didn't like it
it shut Troy's ass up
it did yeah man because
again, I mean, Cash was that
the comic relief and
just the guy that got into trouble. He just got
out of jail before they
went to the contest.
Came in talking shit too.
Yeah. Because throughout the movie, he was
constantly talking
about Reese's, uh, his, neither
his mom or his sister.
Like, constantly, that's how you know
they're good friends because he's constantly
saying something about either one of them.
Yeah, but I mean, he
that was like all truth right
there. I mean, he's just like, man, we're friends. You guys know each other forever, man. What the
fuck? I mean, but it shut him down. He, Troy just, deep down, Troy knew it was true. So he just
man, he just kept quiet as cash. Like, come on, man, we're going to go here and watch our
friend, uh, win this shit. And then he kind of gets him in a headlock and takes him out of it.
Man, right there, man. And that almost brought me to tears. I was kind of like, fuck, man. I mean,
would it have it affected me that much if it was another actor no but since it was
Ryan done I was kind of like oh man and again he was the one that was doing all this
crazy shit throughout the whole movie up to this point well he continued to do more crazy
shit but he made fucking perfect sense and he had to be the one to to
yell at Troy to just tell him to fucking knock that shit off so I thought that was
fucking awesome I mean I loved that scene that
that was probably one of my favorite scenes in the whole film.
But, man.
So they go back out there.
Derek,
Derek's in it.
Eric was in it too as well.
Ryan Shackle,
I know he made it to the finals.
So,
I don't know.
They show,
there's a montage really quick of everybody out there,
but then they concentrate on Derek's run,
doing all his crazy tricks.
Just flips and all this grinds and everything, but then he goes to his big trick, his tray flip crook down the rail.
He ends his run with that, but doesn't make it.
And everyone's like, ah, but to me, the judges this far, they're judging him on everything that he's done.
I don't really understand how they judge these contests.
I mean, I'm sure every contest is different.
but he they they they were judging I judged once but how I was doing on just how big the tricks
these guys were going for ongoing on that's the only time I've only judged once one contest but
so he doesn't make it but everyone's like on ah but then he kind of gets up really quick and
he wants to give it another shot and Dave Duncan's like oh man he's good again he goes hey man
well the contest is over.
I mean,
we can't count this,
but we're going to let him do it.
So he goes up,
tries it again,
and messes,
and messes up,
and then everyone's going,
one more time,
one more time,
then he gets up.
I love how they shot this.
They,
other than multiple angles,
they,
they did it really slow in slow motion.
So he goes up,
does the flip trick,
grabs it,
hits the rail,
boom,
and lands perfectly.
and everybody's all juice for him and everything boys ran out there yeah you did it you did
it and everyone everybody and the mother was in their film in it but i like how they kept showing
troy every now and then while even during derrick's run he was kind of like you could see that
he still wanted to be that that that hater but he was he was like he was there for his boy he was
kind of give him the nods like all right all right man you're cool because after
he had landed and everybody and then that's when Troy
go, hey man, that was sick brother.
And then yeah, they kind of hug each other and all that.
I like when
yeah,
just go back to Troy real quick.
He still had to play it off though.
Like he had to look at it one more time.
Yeah.
To the camera.
It was like, yeah, that was pretty good.
You know.
I was like, you know it was badass, man.
This is a nice trick.
You know.
Cash comes running in.
Yeah.
gives Derek a hug, then he grabs Troy,
and then flips him around,
so it's dry up on him from the back.
Ah, yeah, my buddies.
He's done that plenty of time.
Not to just me, everybody in the crew.
But he was one of our crazy friends.
But yeah, so,
Derek actually, this is another thing I liked about this film.
Other than he didn't make it during the contest,
I mean, we knew he was going to make.
naked before the movie ended, but he
actually came in
fifth place in the contest.
So it wasn't like,
yeah, he wasn't like thrashing
when Cory Webster,
aka Thanos, won
the L.A. downhill.
He just
he placed, but he
just didn't win. But that
wasn't enough. I mean, the guys that were watching
him, one of the, one of
Troy's friends earlier
in the film, the guy that had a
company he goes yeah man you make that trip man you're on the team and then because he went he
that guy was there he came hey man he goes dude he goes dude if you want to be on the team man
you made it dude you can and there was kind well i didn't win he was it don't matter man you
made that trick and you want to be on the team told him you don't even need to finish that video
yeah if you want it you got it he was like yeah so i mean all it ends well everybody's friends again
Derek got his sponsor
and then he gets
the girl at the end
but uh... which i have to say
cc sheffield is
upgrade no no disrespect to
the cheerleader ex-girlfriend
but like I said
I do like them cool girls
with with the Chuck Taylor's
you can ace the cigarettes
maybe my younger years
I was all right but now no
no
no one nowadays is probably fucking vaping
well
it's not as bad
not as bad yeah not as bad for you it's bad but not as bad
anyway so yeah they kind of
I assume she didn't live in Chicago
so
he ended up giving her big smooch
and then everyone jumps in the car
and then they go hauling ass back to Illinois
I liked all the outtakes and everything
at the end of the film during the credits.
But again, for what this movie was,
I thought it was awesome.
I'm going to have to see if it's on Blu-ray or DVD or whatever
because I would like to own this.
I thought it was a really good story.
I thought everybody in it did their parts.
I mean, other than these guys were just ripping skaters.
Was the acting the greatest?
No.
but I think to me as a skateboarder and a guy that loves watching movies and enjoys a good story,
I thought this story was good.
It spoke to me in many, many parts of the film, like I explained throughout.
But I thought it was really good job, man.
If Paul Rodriguez continues to act, I guess I could just click on his name and see if he's done anything else.
who was in Selena?
Yeah, we talked about it.
God damn.
Go back and see exactly where.
I guess he was in some short.
He was the curse of Lala Rona?
I don't remember that
horrible-ass movie.
Was this the
who was? Okay.
I'm not
have to go back and I've seen that movie once.
I don't even remember.
But I guess he's out there doing it.
I mean,
nothing huge,
but he's out to making movies.
So,
again,
he did what he was supposed to do.
He
wasn't the greatest
actor, but
the parts
where it counted, I thought,
he did a good job.
The scene when he got into it with his dad,
the scene when Derek and Troy were kind of going at it,
I thought he good.
I mean,
it wasn't just,
they didn't just hire him for a skateboarder,
for his skateboarding,
but he's good that he did.
I mean,
I liked that the skateboarders were the actors.
They didn't,
they weren't just,
they got some guys that act,
and then,
all right,
we're going to get these skateboarders to do the stunts.
I'm glad they didn't do they didn't do that.
So if Rob Deerdeck does more, which I hope, I hope he does,
because he had a hard time doing this one.
The little interview that I saw, he said he put in, like, again,
he put in over a million dollars of his own money.
And he probably didn't even get back.
But I guess, um, this movie came out 2009.
And so 10 years ago or no, shit, 20.
No, no, I'm sorry.
you got to do the math it's late it was a while ago yeah it's over 10 years ago um but
he um i guess he was at home and it was going through mail or whatever and then he saw a check
for 17 dollars for uh for this and it's like what is it he said it was a 17 dollar check from
uh i guess people that bought it on iTunes and he's like oh i made some money i mean he
He didn't care that he didn't make millions of dollars from this movie.
He just wanted to make a movie and put his buddies in it.
And it was a movie that he wrote with the help of his friends and everything.
And he did it.
So I can give it to him for that.
Again, I loved it for what it was, not just because of the skateboarding.
I loved this story on how it spoke to me in a personal level throughout this film.
So as far as the director,
it looks like he's done a ton of stuff.
He's only got three directing stuff,
other than this film, some short video,
and then I guess he directed two episodes of,
what's firsthand?
I never heard of that.
But he's done a lot of, he's a cinematographer.
He's done a lot of big things.
So good to see that he did this.
So again, I really enjoy this film.
I thought it was awesome.
If you guys have Amazon Prime, it's on there, or everyone's got YouTube.
You can watch it on there.
But I thought this was an awesome choice, man.
Thank you because I had never even heard of this film.
Thank you for telling us some of your stories, man.
I mean, I hope this will.
get us more skate society episodes um yeah i'll claim this as episode two
skate society because i this movie was awesome other than the awesome skateboarding and all of it
every time they had skateboarding on the screen it was there wasn't a lot but it was good that
they focused on uh skateboarding as well as the story so i i i
thought it was good.
There was a good balance of both.
I know some people, when you,
when you have skateboarding movies,
all they want is skateboarding in it.
But it's good that they,
they balance it out.
So awesome film.
I guess,
again,
I could be here all night talking about this.
It's my pick,
and I didn't even pick
anything.
I was,
uh,
gonna think of
the comedy
route
but
um
see what we can
pick with
do something serious
or do I want to do
comedy
have we
have we even done any
comedies
with any of these shows
we've done
uh
oh
I'm a street fighter
I mean
Friday after next
yeah
I think
that's
That's the only comedy we did.
All right.
You know what?
Fuck it.
Let's do a comedy.
I ain't seen this in a while.
I'm going to go to...
I guess I can pull that up.
This is on HBO Max.
But I don't know.
What year came on.
I want to say 1990.
But this is the...
Yep, 1990.
This is the 1990
Kid and Play.
Classic.
uh,
there was a trilogy,
but then they made the fourth movie,
which I don't even know.
It doesn't count.
I don't even know if they're in it,
but we're going to start with the first one.
And this is a house party.
Nice.
I just saw that it was on HBO Max.
So all of them are on there.
Well,
one, two, three,
and four,
which I,
the disregard for.
Have you seen it?
Yeah.
Okay.
Well,
I haven't seen it.
So we're,
we're going to talk about the,
the first one
next week
well I guess now
I gotta watch it
it is
connected
I mean
the Bernie Max
nephews from
the third one
immature
yeah it's them
in the fourth one
I like them in that third one
but
all right I know
we'll see
I'll have to check it
I haven't seen
I didn't even know they made it
until like
recently.
So, but,
uh,
yeah,
come back next week,
uh,
for a 1990s,
uh,
house party.
Nice.
All right.
Uh,
anything else going on?
Uh,
I don't know yet.
Um,
we were supposed to,
we were supposed to drop a new East society,
but just life got in the way.
So,
but,
um,
I don't even know what we put out last.
Uh,
we got more coming.
Uh,
that's all I can tell you.
Um,
I know you guys, you guys did a check-in episode.
Theo did the NBA check-in, which, real quick on the NBA.
I know people are excited to go get back into the arenas, but keep your stuff to yourself.
Don't throw nothing at the players.
Don't spit on the players.
You can't say whatever you want to the players or their families sitting court aside.
that stuff that shit is stupid that's what uh when we did that check in that's what he was talking
about i i don't watch NBA so i don't yeah the the one that to me was this i mean it it's been
happening since they've been letting people in slowly because there was an incident with lebron
where a certain entitled woman sitting courtside thought she can get up and say whatever she wanted
to him with whatever kind of language she wanted to
to use and
pulled the old. You don't know who my
husband is routine.
But the most disgusting
one was
when a New York was playing
or Atlanta in New York, their series
Trey Young plays for Atlanta
and one of the
fans for the Knicks
spat on him.
It was standing courtside, which
could have ended up even more worse
because 50 cent and his
girlfriend were sitting there. And he
spit over 50 cent to spit on
Tray Young and that could have went left field
super fast.
Damn. Because that's what Theo
was saying. He was saying that
it happens, but
not as much as it's been happening lately.
Yeah. It's people,
players going back to the locker rooms
and getting stuff dumped on them.
I know one of the,
I can't think of what team he plays
for, but his family with
his parents were at the game and I guess they were being verbally attacked with racial comments by some of the fans and it it's got to stop.
I mean,
you're going to make it to where they're just not going to have fans for the rest of the playoffs.
And I know every,
like I said,
I know everybody's excited,
but,
you know,
be a decent person.
Yeah,
man,
it's just,
your team's not going the way you wanted to,
man,
and go home.
He ain't got to be a bitch and spit and throw things.
I mean, that's...
Yeah.
I don't know.
I mean, is it worth it being banned for life from these events?
No.
But don't be mad when these players retaliate and knock your block off.
And then try to sue.
You ain't winning, but...
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't know.
Uh, but yeah, as far as that, I mean, we, we got episode coming.
I don't know when, but it's coming.
Uh, we might drop a, uh, uh, a rewind really soon.
I won't go into what it is until it's out, but, uh, I know that'll probably be out before the next episode.
Mike's going to come on.
We're going to do, uh, his favorite movie anniversary for his, his favorite movie.
So if you guys know Mike in a personal level, you know what it is, but I won't tell you guys.
And, uh, yeah, I guess that's it.
But come back next week for a house party here on THR present stream fiends and then check out action returns with Beverly Hills Cop 3 triple axle or whatever they called it.
Fun world or whatever.
Oh, my gosh.
Yeah, come back and check out that.
And then the next couple of weeks we got.
Some commentaries.
The first one is
Patreon picks
from one of our donors
for,
what is it,
Texas Chainsaw Masker 2.
And then next week
after that,
we are going to be
doing the original
stepfather movie
commentary for Father's Day.
Thought we'd actually
do one of these holidays
for once.
So stay tuned for that.
And,
uh,
there's nothing else
tell everybody
like I said
be good to each other
be a decent human being
and stay safe
