Welcome to the first episode of THR Quick Reviews.
I'm your host, Brian.
With these quick reviews, they could be five minutes, they could be 10 minutes, 15, who knows.
I'm just trying to throw them out there.
I do watch a lot of movies, some of them I want to talk about, and I'm going to give this a try.
The first movie we're going to talk about is As the Village Sleeps.
I believe this was a
2021 release, if I'm not mistaken.
Let's go to Google for a quick synopsis.
A birthday celebration takes a turn for the worst
when a strange party game gets out of hand
and triggers a deadly fight among a group of family and friends.
Hmm.
All right, let's head over to RMDB, see what their synopsis is.
A smart yet naive college girl.
organizes a birthday celebration at her stepfather's cabin,
bringing together a volatile group of friends and family.
While playing a mysterious party game,
nightmares blend with reality and the friends struggle to survive
as the living game attacks and turns them against each other.
I guess that's what the movie was.
and let's see
this is starring Chloe
you guys know how I butcher names
Camamere Winnie Doe
Mark Adam Gauth
Michael Gunn
Shia Luna
Tyler
Menna Lucas
Daniel Oligan
Oliver Rotono
Eleanor
Cereval
and so on.
This is directed by Terry Spears and written by Chloe.
Bellad.
I'm sure I butcher every one of those names.
I apologize.
First initial thoughts.
The movie starts out pretty strange.
You get a scene with a female and I don't know if it's her boyfriend or friend, brother, family.
member, I don't know, they're kind of driving. She hasn't pulled over. She has this car. She's going to go burn it or bury it or whatever. And then she gets attacked by what seems to be some kind of werewolf. Cool. I'm into I'm into werewolf movies. Then we kind of jump into a whole other thing with the group of friends that are staring at a house. The main girl, it's her families or her father's home that he owns. And it's built on.
a reservation and nobody's really likable in this movie you just can't get
behind anybody they're gonna have a party they have some guys coming over the
guys come over they're in a band come to find out one of them is the main
girl's ex-boyfriend you got that whole kind of backstory that really
doesn't go anywhere then you have the
main girls, I'm assuming her step-sister, who is Native American and shows up with her,
I don't know, her friend, boyfriend.
I don't know.
They never really establish anything in this movie.
And they have, obviously, a rocky relationship being that the father married somebody else,
and they're not really close.
and she invites her to stay for the party.
They party.
They play this weird game called, I can't remember,
lynch the wolf or something,
which they don't explain the rules.
The game makes no sense.
And then by the end of the night,
one by one, people start disappearing.
What makes you think is by a,
some kind of wolf or werewolf, but you never see anything.
You never see the wolf.
You never really see anybody get killed.
Nothing's ever explained.
Like I said, the characters are completely unlikable, annoying.
And then the movie ends.
They somehow get through the game by changing the rules, which doesn't make any sense.
and that's the end of the movie.
Whoever survives, it survives.
They kind of just act like everybody that ended up missing doesn't really matter.
And then credits roll.
Like I said, these reviews are going to be very short.
I can't recommend this movie.
The plot was weak.
The kills were weak.
They mention a wolf.
You never see that.
certain characters are introduced in this movie and they go nowhere with it.
They mention a reservation and Native American folklore, which they never get into,
which would have been super interesting if they did.
But like I said, poor execution, characters are not likable, weak kills.
I can't give this a recommendation.
So if anybody wants to watch this, this is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
