Back to another episode of THR Quick Reviews.
I'm your host, Brian.
And today we are going to talk about the 2021 sci-fi horror film Meander.
Let's go to Google, as we usually do for a quick synopsis.
A woman gets locked in a series of bizarre tubes filled with dangerous traps.
Now, when you hear that synopsis, very similar to a previous film,
I believe it was a Canadian horror film, sci-fi horror film called The Cube.
Very similar premise.
Very.
Of course, we always go to IMDB to read their synopsis.
It might be a little better.
It might not be.
And it's pretty much the same thing.
A woman finds herself locked in a series of strange tunnels full of deadly traps.
Pretty much same thing.
This is directed by...
and written by Matthew Thoree
starring
Gaya Weiss, Peter Frenzine,
Ramon Lebert,
and that is pretty much it.
There is not many people in it,
and it works for the movie.
Let's jump right into the review here.
Pre-warn, spoilers.
I'm going to get minor spoilers.
I'm not going to get too deep into it,
but I enjoyed this movie.
tremendously. I thought it was well-acted,
well-written, well-directed,
practical effects throughout.
I believe, now I'm thinking about it, it might have been a little bit of
CG, but not a lot. If there was, it was done correctly.
Everybody knows I'm big into practical effects.
I don't mind CGI when it's done right,
and this was perfect for me.
Essentially, a woman gets picked up on the side of the road by a man who quickly gives you very sketchy vibes.
And if you get that feeling, you are correct to have them because he eventually attacks her, knocks her out.
And when she wakes up, she is trapped in a series of tubes that have traps like fire, gas, electricity.
some tubes might close in on itself and just crush your body.
And yeah, it is a scary situation to be in.
And I knew nothing about this movie going into it.
And when I was watching it and the sci-fi angle kicked in,
which I didn't know nothing about, I liked it.
When the alien aspect was introduced,
man it just kind of up the movie for me I was I was in I was really pulling for this lady to
get out the character's name was Lisa you come to find out the guy that attacked her
his name is Adam he's in there too he had nothing to do with her being in the tube they
both got put in the tube they're in these suits with these wristbands basically they
indicate how much time you have because you can't stay in one spot you got to constantly keep moving
and the time will the bracelet will light up and basically tell you your time's
counting down and you got to keep moving and there is another aspect to the main character
Lisa that gets introduced that just hit me hit me right in the fields I my heart went out to
her which made me want to just see her pull through the
and get to the end and make it through as soon as she could.
And, yeah, I'm not going to spoil the ending,
but yeah, just the tubes and the traps.
It was very simple, but effective.
Definitely not a place you want to find yourself.
And, yeah, I just, I love this film.
And I mentioned the cube earlier.
definitely would pair this up as a double feature.
I think this would be an awesome double feature.
You never know.
I think we did the queue before.
I'm not sure.
I got to check,
but this might be on the regular show sometime down the line.
You know,
I like to pair of similar movies.
You know how the horror returns does it.
But yeah, definitely great mix of sci-fi and horror.
And it added another angle there.
Like I said,
tell you too much about her backstory, but when you get what happened to her in her life,
it makes you pull for her even more.
So I definitely like that angle.
And the director, Matthew Thoree, definitely going to check out his films after this
because I think he did a fantastic job on this.
So hats off you, sir.
Definitely going to check out your work from now on.
So, yeah, I'm going to end it right there.
Quick reviews.
I've been thinking about the direction how I want to take these
because this is brand new to me doing these solo reviews.
They're just going to be quick, five to ten minutes.
Nothing too extravagant.
Just my quick thoughts, quick description, synopsis.
Do I recommend it?
And I definitely recommend this movie.
So definitely check it out.
I believe if you have Amazon Prime,
is on there.
So if you have Amazon Prime,
you have no excuse, check it out.
