Quiet on the sad says Judah.
Good Friday afternoon, guys.
I'm Jerry Miller, and thank you kindly for joining us on the water cooler of content and conversation in Charlottesville, Almaro County, and across central Virginia.
This, my friends, is the I Love Seville Show.
A lot to cover on the broadcast, including last night to Almore County School Board meeting, 15 people are itching and scratching.
and clawing and fighting for Allison Spillman's at-large seat on the school board.
I'm not sure it's the most democratic process filling Allison Spillman's seat,
a seat that became open after Allison Spillman shocked Almaro County by quitting.
It's quitting. Yes, it's quitting midterm.
Is it democratic that six-sufficient?
school boards that have shown suspect leadership,
suspect decision-making,
suspect communication,
and frankly,
suspect character traits,
are personally selecting the replacement for Spillman?
Is that democracy to you?
Is that democracy for you?
Are you not perplexed or curious why this is not,
a vote of the kind
where Almaro Countyans
get to select the at-large
position. I want to talk about that on the show.
I want to talk about what we saw last night.
I want to talk about the sales tax referendum
that's coming down in the pipeline.
Is it progressive or is it regressive?
A one-cent uptick
and sales tax
strictly, strictly
for capital improvement
within our school systems. Schools are
are a cross-isle unifying storyline.
You would think, especially in this community,
Almarrow and Charlottesville,
that is very quick to tax,
that this referendum will pass.
But is it truly the best forward?
I wanna talk about that on the program today.
I wanna discuss Bob Good,
our former congressman here in the fifth district.
Bobby Good, he ripped the president, Donald Trump.
you're seeing a splintered GOP, a splintered Republican Party, the national level,
at the Commonwealth-wide level, maybe not so much locally when it comes to what Trump is doing.
Actually, I think it's splintered locally.
I'd say the Republican Party locally is splintered with its support and backing of the president.
Bob Good rips Trump and that $5,000 to buy votes.
We'll talk about that on the program today.
There's a lot we're going to cover on the broadcasts.
We have a new business that's opened.
Nothing but burgers on the Little John spot on the UVA corner.
Conan Owen is on site right now.
Let's give him some love, Sir Speedy, Central Virginia.
Conan Owen.
He's doing the signage, the vinyl lettering, and the interior branding and signage.
He's setting me pictures right now.
I'm giving you props on the show right now.
Nothing but Burgers is opening in the old Little John spot.
And it looks awesome.
I'd love to be able to, can I somehow get you these photos without you interrupting the broadcast
so you can put them on screen, Judah?
What's the best way for me to do that?
I mean, any way you do it, I'm going to have to check email.
Is that going to interrupt the broadcasts?
Probably not.
Nothing but Burgers opening in the former Little John's location on the UVA corner.
And the spot looks awesome.
I sent those to you, Judah.
Their actual size, so maybe you can put them on screen.
They'll be in your inbox in about 30 seconds.
I literally just received them.
I want to see space is full, and I understand the mindset that, hey, this isn't a truly,
locally owned and operated business.
it's opening on our treasured UVA corner that's going to influence not just the four-year period here in Charlestville for UVA students,
but their memories of the University of Virginia, which without question influenced these students and encourages them to maybe return to Charlottesville on the back end of their professional careers, the middle end, maybe even the front end.
Heck, I didn't leave. I loved Charlottesville so much after going to the University of Virginia. I stayed.
and then I found myself starting a business 18 and a half years ago in my 20s.
So this experience of the UVA corner, the nightlife, the party scene, the outdoors, the sports, the hiking, all the stuff we love, the culture, the music, all the stuff we love, without question is influencing 18 to 22 year olds in this time of their life where they are impression.
and influenceable and have an incredible zest for life.
And as they experience some of the best times of their lives,
the first true independence of their lives, college,
they wax nostalgic of it.
They yearn for it as they mature into adulthood.
And as we mature into adulthood,
and as we get into this 9 to 5, this 9 to 6, this 9 to 7,
whether you want to admit this or not,
Charlestville and Almore County are now a 60, 70-hour workweek town.
You find that you're not getting ahead.
I understand that.
Are you working 40 hours a week?
Perhaps that's why you're not getting ahead.
You may not want to hear it, but it's a 60 hour a week, not a 40-hour work week community.
That's what happens when you have $140,000 median family household income and rising.
18 to 22-year-olds waxed nostalgic of zest and carefree college life,
which is influenced by what they experience.
and some say that having corporate chains and out-of-town businesses on the UVA corner
is going to disrupt that nostalgia and influence it in ways that may not be positive.
I'm not buying that.
I would rather have a business in Little Johns than have the storefront sit vacant.
And I'm looking forward to the success of nothing but burgers.
We'll talk about it on the show, and we're going to show some photos.
Do we have those photos ready to go?
Just the best.
Man, Judah Wickhauer is an enterprising individual.
I'm going to show you two pictures from the grand opening of nothing but burgers from partner in front of the show, Conan Owen, the owner of SurSpeedia Central Virginia, that's on location right now doing the signage.
We'll talk about that on the show.
I want to talk tourism in the community.
Charlottesville and Almore County tourism has surpassed $1 billion, $1 billion, which is a record-setting amount for tourism in Almoreau County and Charlottesville.
I'll ask you this question. You got those photos? You ready to put them on screen?
Here's nothing but burgers. We're going to show you two photos, viewers and listeners.
This is the type of content you don't get from any other media platform.
This is literally straight from Conan Owen, who's on location at Nothing But Burgers doing the signage.
Put the photos on screen. They're on screen? Just rotate them on screen. Look at the screen.
Viewers and listeners, look at the screen. There's the outside. Burgers, Fresh Cut Fries, Milkshakes. I like the logo.
look at the interior of nothing but burgers.
Let me know when the interior is on screen.
It gives me like an old school like greasy spoon vibe, doesn't it?
Yeah, definitely.
Keep rotating the photos.
It looks great, right?
Conan, you did a hell of a job here.
Is this the outside on screen?
Put the storefront out.
Put the storefront back on.
Tell me when it's on there.
There it is.
When you're looking at the storefront on screen now,
look outside the door of the storefront, Judah.
You see in the concrete on the cement,
was it say a university drugstore?
Yeah.
Look at how nostalgic this is.
This is the kind of stuff I love about Charlottesville.
I was in the Nothing But Burgers guys now open on the UVA quarter
in the former Little John spot.
Put the inside back on.
Just this reminds me of the branding of that,
your favorite blanket, that every time you grab it and you sit on the couch or you get in bed
or you sit in the lazy boy and you wrap yourself in that comfortable blanket, you just feel
at home. It just brings back warm memories. That's what this branding palette looks like to me.
All right, put you and I on a two shot. Judah Wickhauer. It's time everyone in this community
sees that face of yours over there. His name is Judah Wickhauer. We've dubbed him the Jack of All
Wits. He's a key contributor to this talk show and has worked
at this firm for 16 plus years. The most tenured employee at the firm save yours truly is this man,
Judah Wickhauer. It's his second favorite day of the work week, Friday. It's not a payday Friday.
It's paid every two weeks, but it is Friday nevertheless. And Judah Wickhauer next week,
on vacation with the Wickhauer clan in the outer banks, they've reserved and booked a beachfront mansion
where he will be enjoying the finer things of life,
the spoils of life with friends and family next week.
The I Love Seville Network on a programming note is off air next week.
Judah's on vacation.
I'm on vacation with my fantastic family.
We work hard, we play hard.
Are you cutting me off on my two-shot?
It looks like my fantastic, I'm having a good hair day here.
Is my hair cut off over there?
I'm having a good hair day.
keep her head down and you'll be fine.
Thank you, cameraman, who's supposed to frame the talent and not cut the talent off with the framing.
I mean, if you're going to go like this, then it's kind of hard.
It's difficult for the cameraman if the talent's moving around.
Tushay, Tusha.
Jude, I'm going to tell, I'm going to relay my morning to the viewers and listeners
and localize it for them from a storyline standpoint.
I got to the office this morning at 8.30 a.m.
Our building, we own a good chunk of this building on the corner of 4th and Market Street.
8.30 a.m. I had a new lease signing with a with a client that's been a client of ours, not just for our consultancy, where we help we help her and her business gain market share.
She owns the number one cleaning company in Charlottesville, Almer, and Central Virginia.
Her name is Shelly Quick, Michelle Quick, Shelly Quick.
And Shelly Quick is just a fabulous, fabulous person.
We've helped Shelly Quick gain market share by positioning her brand digitally, her website, mobile website,
her digital presence in a strategic way, and it's really driven top-line revenue for her.
We've also helped Blue Ridge Professional Cleaning and Shelly Quick secure commercial space.
First in our building, the Macklin building here, where she's,
She's leased a couple of offices.
She's quickly outgrown that space and is now today moving into the Wells Fargo building on the downtown mall on the fifth floor
where she's going to have a fabulous view of the downtown mall with a windowed office and plenty of storage and space for her team to call headquarters.
She's a lifetime Charlottesvillian.
She moved out the area for a short period of time, but Charlottesville's home and the downtown mall in particular for Shelly Quick.
is special to her. She's been up and down these bricks and before they were pedestrian for a long
period of time. Shelly's awesome. To see her face when she got the keys and the fob and her new office
on the fifth floor of the Wells Fargo building made my day. She was absolutely smiling ear to ear.
She thanked me. She was grateful, over the top grateful. She didn't have to be. This is my job. This is
how I make my living. But I saw the American dream play.
out with Shelly as someone who previously was in bookkeeping decided to go into business for herself
to start a cleaning company. Her initial headquarters were storage units, literally storage units.
And then she goes from storage units to our building to now one of the most significant pieces of
real estate, a building that first started construction in 1914 as the Jefferson National Bank.
I have photos that were sent to me earlier today from the 1960s with the bank hall and a cocktail party.
They obviously aren't going to be able to see this.
I love to put them on screen one time.
Then after that meeting with Shelly, I had a client come in, another client come in, that's looking for, to purchase a business.
So we're helping broker a deal with him to potentially buy a business.
This is a guy that's credentialed and has worked white-collar jobs.
It's been at the pinnacle of the profession.
If I mentioned his previous employer, you would be like, why leave that job?
I asked that question.
And he said, because I want to go in a business for myself.
And he's willing to work a service industry business.
He's willing to build a business from scratch.
And what I did was I walked him for a couple hours around the downtown mall,
showed him office space, commercial space, where he could launch a business.
and we discussed a service business, a client of mine that's looking to sell.
We reviewed financials, talk P&L, balance sheet, seller discretionary earnings,
what kind of valuation for that business.
I talked cash on hand, financing, SBA, or if he wants me to find financing for him.
And it's a glimpse into what I love doing, which is helping people, making human connection,
and figuring out ways to help people actualize their dream through business.
It's an absolute joy to do this.
It's my favorite aspect of what I do,
even more so than hosting this talk show.
And where I'm going with this is this community is absolutely,
absolutely,
from the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top,
comprised of so much talent and so much commitment to bettering Charlottesville.
Look, we may disagree with the city council, and we may disagree with an Almore County Board of Supervisors,
and we may disagree with the city manager and how they go about their business.
But I do believe they're committed to bettering Charlottesville.
Now, this Almore County School Board scenario, I am extremely suspect.
My son calls it suss.
That's suss.
That's so suss, Dad.
First, I'm like, son, the word is suspect.
The abbreviation of suspect to suss, A, doesn't make you sound smart.
And B, it takes an extra second for you to say suspect for suss.
I'm like, stop saying suss.
He goes, that's suss, dad.
What you just did right there was suss.
I said, stop saying suss, son.
He goes, you're being suss, dad.
We're getting old.
We're getting old.
Come on old fuddy daddy daddy over here.
Every.
Every group of kids has had their shortened words, and some of them have even made it into the national lexicon.
William McChesney, welcome to the broadcast.
I face-time Juan Sarmiento into the show yesterday.
I'm going to FaceTime a viewer and listener into this show today from my phone.
If you leave a comment in the feed, and it's a very fantastic comment, and you're willing to get FaceTime into the show for about 30 seconds, let us know.
We're going to try something new on the I Love Seville show, weaving viewers and listeners into the program via FaceTime.
We'll improve this technology.
Initially, it's going to be on my phone.
But via FaceTime into the show as we make the platform even more dynamic and even more the number one platform in the community.
Put your comments in the fee.
If they're great, I'm going to ask if I can FaceTime you into the show.
Judah, Almar County School Board.
I think we got a couple of headlines there.
15 candidates for Allison Spillman's spot.
They interviewed yesterday in 12-minute segments.
Down from 19.
It was initially 19.
Now 15 went to a school board.
I know some of these people.
A lot of these people watch and listen to this show on a regular basis, by the way.
I mean, Jolene Pizarzik, she watches and listens to the show.
Leslie Pryor, Daisy Rojas, watches and listens to the show.
She's also been very vocal in this whole scandal.
Conan saying it's not on LinkedIn, not on LinkedIn, but on all the other ones.
Where do you want to start? Do you want to start with William Woodard? He's an attorney. He spoke last night. I just leased office space to Will Woodrow.
I spoke to him when he came by for that and we discussed briefly his application to you.
One of the 15 candidates, Will Woodrow, William Woodrow, is in a local attorney who previously had office place in the Lewis and Clark building.
We just transitioned them to the Wells Fargo building literally this week.
I gave him the keys yesterday.
The lease was signed last week.
Fantastic human being.
Yeah, definitely.
Steve.
I know that after speaking with him, I would 100% appreciate him in that seat.
Common sense guy.
Yeah.
lives in the Murray School District.
Steve Colizhar,
a previous school board member.
Daisy Rojas watches the show.
Half of these candidates on a daily basis
are watching our show.
Where do you want to go on the 15 of 19?
Judah Wickhauer.
Where do I want to go on last night's meeting?
Where do you want to go on people filling Allison Spillman?
The school board members themselves picking the seat.
suss
suss folks
picking somebody
that can go suss it up with them later on
I think my
you know
part of me
doubts that the
voting habits are going to change
meaning that
even if we put this to a vote
we would still end up with
likely
would we
you're saying the same
candidate anyway. If this was put up,
Ginny Who, do you buy that?
I don't know if it would be the same candidate
that they would choose, but I
think someone like
I think
some of the people would never have a chance
either way.
Considering that most of the
remaining school board members
are in all
likelihood, Democrats
and left-leaning.
And
we all know that the
voting habits in Almerall County in Charlottesville are largely the same.
Out of all those candidates that we have, that's no guarantee that the school board would
choose the same people that voters would, but I think we can safely weed out some candidates
that the school board is not likely to choose and people that the voters are unlikely to choose.
Sadly, that probably includes people like William Woodrow and Daisy Ross.
Ginny Who, her photo on screen.
I like these comments, and I'm going to mention them live on air.
May I face time you into the show as well.
I just sent that to Ginny Who via Twitter.
Ginny Who says this.
Schools should not get another dimension until they fix safety and academic issues.
They've already wasted plenty of our money.
Ginny Who also adds, I met several of the people running.
Ginny who says they are worthy candidates, worthy candidates who will never be chosen
because they differ from the hive mind.
Yeah.
I mean, I've heard through the grapevine, I don't have this as, as, I don't take this as fact.
I've heard through the grapevine that the fix was in for Steve Colazar.
Oh, yeah.
The 79 year old, soon to be 80 year old.
Steve Colossar.
He is the safe candidate, especially for, I think, the school board.
That's, that's it right there.
They said he's the safe candidate.
I don't think he's going to push back on whatever decisions they decide to make.
But we'll see.
Tom Starchel watching the program, the Golden Apple Award winner, Tom Starchel.
He says this, his photo on screen.
Does anyone on this planet really believe these candidates got a fair evaluation?
The fix is in from the start.
I think for the first time and a long time,
there's a chance for voters to really look and listen to the candidates.
maybe.
Here's the question that I have for the viewers and listeners.
Are you ready for this, Judah Wickhauer?
15 candidates, one seat, who gets the power?
That's the lower third on screen.
15 candidates for one seat is an extraordinary amount of interest.
The immediate question is why.
Is it healthy civic engagement, or is it evidence that people believe that
Almore County Public Schools are at a pivotal moment. That's what we have to ask ourselves.
Ask this question at your cocktail and charcutory party tonight. It's a tailgate night.
UVA and Norfolk State play. It's a 44.5 point line. It's not going to be a close contest.
You're probably going to spend more time, ladies and gentlemen, tailgating and drinking and
consuming cocktails. I could FaceTime you via Ginny Who via Facebook Method.
That's probably how we're going to do it.
Tell me your last name again.
Put it in the Facebook.
And then I'll bring you into the show.
This is the question that I have for you of viewers and listeners.
15 people for one spot is extraordinary.
Yeah.
Is it an indication that Almorel Countians are civically engaged and want to give back?
Or is it an indication that Almaro Countyans realize we're at a pivotal moment
for our school system, the six largest county in the Commonwealth,
and they feel more compelled than ever to get engaged and participate to right the ship.
Like, do they actually have trust in the school system?
I would like to think that we have such a large candidate pool
because the candidates want to make sure that the school board has a bit of transparency,
the real word I'm looking for is, I can't find it, but basically somebody to watch and make sure a watch talk, for lack of a better word, to make sure that the candidates are all working together towards the same goal, which is the protection of our children.
That being said, I don't know if that's, I don't know if that's the case or not.
What criteria will the six members actually use when they pick this candidate?
Experience, educational philosophy, political compatibility, parental perspectives, professional backgrounds, independence.
Will the six Alamaro County sit a sitting school board members?
will they find someone, will they select somebody
that is going to hold them accountable, or just
tow the company line?
Right.
Do they realize at this critically important crossroads?
Do they realize at this critically important crossroads
that our school system and this pick
is not just to rebuild trust,
is not just to help keep our kids safe,
we're hearing predator stories at other schools
at Almarat County Public Schools.
We've already got predator stories at Woodbrook,
predator stories at Holly Mead.
We're hearing sketchiness at Western Henley and Brownsville now.
Do these six members realize
that whoever they pick to fill Allison Spillman Spot
is going to help choose the next superintendent?
Do they realize that whoever fills this Allison Spillman spot
is going to be
a key partner with this referendum, I would bet the referendum passes, and I would bet a regressive
tax is going to go into play that pops us whenever we're buying and selling stuff just to
allocate money to schools and capital improvement. Well, guess what? This person that they select
is going to determine how that money is allocated. I mean, think about the importance here.
You can make an argument that this spot that they're filling is as important spot as any, any, the school board has filled.
Yeah.
Agree or disagree, Judah Wickhauer.
I agree.
I'm going to try to FaceTime Ginny Who.
I agree especially because I think that it's going to show where their hearts are.
Are there hearts in covering their backsides or are their hearts in
Ginny finding and...
Hello.
We're going to put Ginny's photo on screen and we're going to have Ginny offer commentary.
You look fantastic, Ginny.
Where are you going?
Are you going to go...
She's in the Costco parking lot.
I got her right next to the speaker.
We're trying a new dynamic with the show.
You are literally our second try doing this and I think this could make the show great.
Your photo is now on screen, live on air and people are going to be able to hear your voice
as I put it right next to the microphone.
I would love for your commentary on anything on what you saw last night
or anything Almaro County Public School related.
Phil Reese as well, because back in the day,
I actually toyed with the idea of running for school board.
And so there are several excellent candidates,
but they're never going to get chosen.
They won't get chosen whether the school board chooses them
or, like, Duda was saying whether we get to vote.
So it begins of the high.
What do you make of this fiasco that,
is Almar County Public Schools right now.
I tell you my DMs are full of people asking home school questions
and wanting to know what they can do to get started.
Just a PSA, you could pull your child from school at any time of the school year
if that's something that you're leaning towards.
I just, you know, they were already failing our kids academically
and now they can't even keep them safe.
And as a parent, that breaks my heart.
I just, and it breaks my heart for parents who feel like they have to start.
stay within the system, but they don't have a choice.
Because I can't imagine sending my kids off and worrying about, I mean, more than a normal
parent worries, right?
But thinking something could happen to them every single day.
Amen.
Last one for you.
Take her commentary on Kate a cuff and Rebecca Burlid.
The text we talked about yesterday with Matt Haasen closed session, I know you've got to take
on that.
Yeah.
Obviously, I mean, there were dealing.
We all suspected there were wheelings and dealings behind the scenes, right?
And it just proves it that we can't trust these people.
And it, but you know what?
They're so full of themselves and so sure that they can get away with all of this.
They'll never step down willingly.
You're awesome.
I hope you have a great weekend.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
You have a good one.
Bye.
Bye.
Ginny Who right there.
I like this integration.
We're going to have to figure out how to optimize it some more,
but I would love to feature the commentary from viewers and listeners into the show and video capacity.
Ginny has so much to offer.
All our viewers and listeners do.
John, Deep Throat, Vanessa Parkhill, Carol Thorpe.
Yeah.
Well, I'm going to think about it over vacation.
You think about it over vacation.
the technology of bringing in a video conference call into the show live on air from viewers and listeners.
I think it would be, we can allocate a segment to it, like 10 minutes of the show,
two minutes of viewer and listener, five viewers and listeners to pontificate our offer commentary
on anything that's new cycle related, and we would feature viewers and listeners that are vetted
and key members of the family.
We're not going to just put viewers and listeners on screen.
that we don't trust and we have embedded,
they gotta be key members of the family.
That would make the program better.
And I'll close with this,
is a talking point for your tailgate tonight?
It's not gonna be a close game,
you're gonna be spending most of your time at the tailgate.
And as a talking point tonight, viewers and listeners,
ask yourself this question.
The 15 people that are trying to fill Allison Spillman's spot.
Are they doing it because they are civically engaged?
Are they doing it because they realize
the school systems at a pivotal movement.
There are now rumor mill, sketchy, sketchy, sketchy stuff
at Western Henley and Brownsville,
along with the actual on-the-record stuff we know
about Woodbrook and Holly Me.
Whoever fills this spot is not only expected
to rebuild the trust with the community,
but they're also expected to keep our children safe moving forward,
safe from predators
find the next superintendent
of Amar County Public Schools
fix the performance
test-wise that has clearly
slipped post-COVID
and figure out what to do with this referendum
that most likely will pass come November.
This is a critical, critical moment
for the sixth largest county in the Commonwealth.
All right, let's give some attention.
Vanessa Parkhill said she
absolutely loved Ginny Who Live. I love it. Vanessa Parkhill, you're going to be on here one day,
too. Same with you, Tom Starchel, the Golden Apple Award winner. Do you to put that big, beautiful
brain of yours in motion of how we integrate with the five softwares that we're already using,
another cog with the video conference into the show. We obviously can do the photo of the viewer
and listener on screen, and at bare minimum, I would love for you to integrate some kind of
kind of on-air now branding below their photo so people know that they're talking but in in an ideal
setting I would like to video conference in the viewer and listener into the show if you go to the
studio camera can you go to the studio camera please you're on the studio camera we could with this
big center TV that I'm pointing to viewers and listeners look see that big TV this is like a 70 inch
TV. I could
Apple TV
I think we're better off using the...
Apple TV from my phone to that big TV
where the viewer and listeners faces on that
big TV talking and we capture the
audio on air. But you don't
like that? Capture the audio
by holding your phone up to the
mic.
I mean a better
solution I think would be to
use the system we've already got in place
to get people
connected, that would connect them to your computer.
We have to do it on the fly, though. It has to be, it's not going to be planned.
We could just have one set up and ready to go.
It would have to be completely on the fly and tapable and very adaptable.
I mean, it would be a matter of you sending someone a link.
See, I think that's a step too much.
Comments continue to put them in the feed. I'll think about it. I'll think about it.
Handsome Hank Martin's photo on screen.
handsome Hank Martin says last night's performance by Rebecca Berlin reinforces her inadequacies as chairwoman.
The last minute changing of previously established rules and her seemingly unwillingness to enforce her own edicts was an embarrassment.
Yes, indeed, the tax is assuredly regressive and we know full well, given this school board's slimyness, the money will go to whatever they want it to and will hide.
and will hide it in bureaucracy.
Hank Martin also says,
despite its attempts to spin the narrative otherwise by the school board,
there is no trust or faith in Almore County Public Schools presently,
and no, this school board will not select anyone
who will adequately represent student safety
and parents and taxpayers' concerns.
The attitude they've shown since the 10th of June
with the Halimi Town Hall is still in effect,
and they seem unwillingly to build that trust again.
It's all about institutional self-preservation.
Jason Noble watching the show. He's a smart guy. Let's get Jason Noble's photo on screen.
Pardon my millennialism, Judah and Jerry, but we don't need any weak boomer energy on that
board. That's what Jason says. And he asked, was there a standout interview? I think there were
a lot of standout interviews, frankly. I think there were a lot of standout interviews. George
Gilmer has your back here. Don't make Judah think about work on vacation. He's not
you. You mean you don't think about work 24-7-365?
As little as possible. That's reassuring. I think about work 24-7-365.
See, the problem is that that doesn't give your mind a chance to refresh. There are times
when you hit a block and the best thing you can do is stop thinking about it and let your mind,
it's like dreams. My body doesn't work that way. I don't care. Dreams are the way you work through
issues. I'm just saying
I find
that oftentimes when I'm
having trouble with something,
I've got to think about other things.
I've got to stop and smell the roses,
look at the clouds, and
when I come back fresh... You normally rip
darts? When I come back fresh the next day.
A lung butter stick?
Yeah, sure.
But when I come back the next day,
the answer is there. It
just needed a little time to
bake in the oven.
so to speak.
Okay.
And that's why this works here, because I'm the absolute opposite of that.
I'm consumed with it.
Yeah.
Absolutely consuming it.
And it's worked.
That's why it works.
And I'm not saying your way is wrong.
Questionable.
Your way's not wrong.
Your way's not wrong.
My way's just more right.
Sure it is.
Spencer Pushard watching the program.
I may have a couple of ideas how to integrate it,
Jerry, I'll DM you. Spencer Pushard would know. If there's an audio visual technician that you need,
that you, if you have a need for audio visual services, you contact Blue Ridge Audio Video.
And Spencer Pushard. He is fantastic in the audio video department. Spencer Pusher. Spencer, we should get you as a partner and advertiser on the show,
a nominal amount of money. It will yield ridiculous return on investment for your business.
ridiculous return on investment.
All right.
We should go to the next topic.
Judah Wickhauer, what is it, at the 115 marker?
Do we want to hit on the taxes, or would you say we've already covered that?
I mean, does anyone not think the referendum is going to pass?
I mean, is this a prop out for us, Judah?
Are you going to take the no side?
Oh, man.
Shoot.
No, I don't want to prop it on this.
I'm fairly certain.
that the Admiral County will probably vote yes.
Well, it's not just Almar County.
I'm also very certain the referendum's going to pass as well.
You're talking about overall, yeah, I got you.
Is it not regressive?
Every tax is regressive.
Right.
The people that are chomping at the bit pushing this forward
are the people where this is going to be impacted,
negatively impact the most.
Yet they don't see it.
It's like the $80 million for Bufre
Middle School renovation.
Wait, you're saying, did I hear you say
that the people who are pushing it
are the ones that are going to be most affected by it?
I don't know if that's necessarily true.
What do you mean?
The people pushing it aren't the, you know,
aren't the people in Fifeville or...
Matthew Gilligan's pushing it.
He lives in the prospect neighborhood.
Yeah, but he's clearly not worried about it.
All right. Okay. My point is this. A sales tax increase is not going to negatively impact wealthy or upper class. Like it's going to impact lower class and lower middle class.
Yeah, definitely. Am I right? A percent bump is peanuts for people who have deep pockets, but it's another death of a thousand cuts for.
a household that is popsicle sticks and band-aiding the budget.
And the problem is always...
That's my point.
And the problem is always is other people deciding to do what,
deciding what to do with your money.
And...
That's another issue I have.
Painting it as compassion or whatever brush they want to paint it as.
The problem is that, and oftentimes they'll even try to quote,
you know, religion, when the fact of the matter is, they can give as much as they want.
And someone else deciding what to do with my money is not compassion for me or from me.
It's I know better than you, and I'm going to take your money and use it where I think is most appropriate.
Pingo.
Sad better than me.
Perfect.
succinct, well-articulated, and fantastically commentated.
Thank you.
Sincerely mean that.
Patrick McAdams watching the program, his photo on screen.
He is one of the greatest lacrosse players to ever matriculate through Almore County Public Schools,
went back to Almore County Public Schools,
and one time was the head coach at Almore High School,
and is now a father who's got a kid in Almore County Public Schools
and just wants to do the best by his school.
kid. That's what we all do. Patrick's got a couple of comments on YouTube. I know this guy
firsthand. I've had cold beers with this guy firsthand all around A-plus guy. School board should be
non-partisan. The Alamore County School Board feels tribal. Maybe it's time for change. And full
disclosure, Jerry, we live in this. Oh, he now lives in the city and the son is at Charlottesville
High School, but I have a niece and nephew in the county. Patrick's brother is,
one of my longest friends, Mike McAdams, known that guy for 20 plus years.
Whole McAdams family, great A-plus dudes.
Josh, I'll even include you in there, Josh.
Patrick says, hive mind is exactly right.
Apparently Stanton as a school board candidate who wears beard,
who wears beard in a dress, unsettlingly, the thought of them walking
into the school to meet the kids.
I guess that would be either
transitioning school board member
or is it cross-dressing
the preferred nomenclature?
What is the preferred nomenclature
if you're wearing the clothes of the
opposite sex? Is that not cross-dressing?
Cross-dressing, transvestite?
I don't know.
I mean, if we don't know
their status in terms of
sex or sexuality,
I think...
Is that non-binary?
Again, it's something
you'd probably have to ask the person in question.
I don't know.
Holly Foster watching the program.
Her photo. She's got a new photo. I enjoyed
seeing and hearing Ginny Who as well.
This is a great feature.
You and Judah have a great vacation.
Thank you.
All right. 120. Next headline. Judah,
what do you got?
Let's see.
Tourism.
I mean, money coming in from tourism last year.
Nearly cracked a billion dollars.
Nearly $1,100,000 in revenue from tourism.
It's over $1 billion in 2025, which is a record.
$603.5 million in visitor spending in Almaro County,
a 2.8 increase over to 2024.
In the city of Charlottesville, 427,700,000 in visitor spending, a 6.3% increase in 2024.
So both Alamaro County and Charlottesville City combined are nearly $1.1 billion.
Let's just say $1 billion plus.
Yeah.
That is crazy.
Yeah.
A 2.8 increase, 2.8 in Almorea County, 2024 versus 2025, and a 6.3 increase in Charlottesville City, 24 versus 2025.
Here's my take on this.
Are you ready?
First, great to see Charlottesville rebound.
Yep.
Without question, the jurisdiction locally that has the most headwinds is Charlestville.
It's got the most headwinds because of visibility, really.
It's got the most headwinds because of politics.
because of the homelessness.
Perceived crime,
although I don't think that's an actual real factor,
but maybe the perception is.
Activism, A11 and A12,
we still haven't recovered A11 and A12,
Charlottesville City.
Statues, still hasn't recovered.
Post-COVID still hasn't recovered.
So a 6.3% uptick,
2024 versus 2025 for Charlottesville,
is invigorating, relieving,
Shosen is a KPI of recovering.
Key performance indicator.
Almaro County,
Almore County carries Central Virginia viewers and listeners.
You may not know this or not.
The University of Virginia is Almar County.
Even the stuff in the city, it's Almar County.
Almar County's got the vast territory of Central Virginia.
It's the six largest county in the Commonwealth.
Almore County's got the most rooftops.
Almore County's got the most businesses.
Almore County's got the most venues, the most vineyards, the most wineries.
Do they have the most breweries?
Is it safe to say Amar County has the most breweries?
That might be a toss-up with Charlottesville.
Charlestville might actually have the most breweries, right?
I'm trying to think which breweries actually...
Are in Al-Mar County?
Yeah.
Star Hill, Pro-Ranata.
That's two.
Star Hill pro-Ranana.
What else is in Almara County that's a brewery?
I mean, we know the obvious ones.
All right, Charlottesville City's got more breweries.
So for Almaro County to uptick 2024 versus 2025,
about 3%, 2.8%, that's also big time.
Put it in perspective, Judah, what strikes you from this?
I mean, I think despite all of,
despite Charlottesville ending up back in coming out of someone's lips,
whether it's talking about A11 and 12,
which is especially irritating when that person has never even been here,
to, you know, COVID was COVID.
Every place was messed up by COVID.
I think it's hopefully, how do I put this?
Not a wake-up call for city council and,
and the Admiral County Board of Supervisors.
But, you know, there's speaking about,
speaking of raising tax dollars for whatever purpose,
whether it's schools or something else,
this is concrete money
that doesn't rely on taxing people
who perhaps can't afford
another rise in taxes.
Listen to the numbers here, guys.
Albaro captured $603.5 million.
$603.5 million.
Charlestville, $427.7 million.
I'll give you more data.
Restaurants, wineries, bars,
and other food and beverage businesses
accounted for $375.9 million.
Lodging hotels generated 223.1 million.
Tourism supports an estimated 7,217 local jobs.
7,217 local jobs.
This is as big a business as Charlottesville and Almore County has.
Charlottesville and Almore County appeared to be maximizing this economy, the tourism economy.
You see why hotels continue to be built.
We're not close to being over-hoteled.
You've got to wonder, is the downtown mall capturing the spending?
Like UVA, the corner, and Almore County are.
If there's one pocket that might be underachieving,
as of now. It's the downtown mall.
Another reason for the
the policy to limit camping
and the storage of possessions in public.
Juan Diego Wade, Lloyd Snook, and Natalie Oström.
It's up to you because magic money, Fleischer,
and move out of your parents' basement pain
are not going to do this. They're going to try to
manipulate and bamboozle people by calling it
the criminalization of homelessness, criminalizing homelessness.
But oceanomics, snookering, and what did Don Gathers call Juan Diego Wade?
I don't think we can use that word.
Don Gathers can, but we can't.
I think we have before.
We can use that?
We can't call him what Don Gathers call.
Don Gathers called Juan Diego Wade and Uncle Tom.
Among other things.
Yeah.
Mike Signor 2.0.
All right, I'll call him Mike Signer 2.0.
Mike Signer 2.0.
You want to use the Blancropian?
I don't think we can use that word.
Mike Signor 2.0
Oceanomics and Snookering
we can use. It's up to
them to vote yes on the policy.
They're the ones and it passes 3-2.
All right.
Next story, what do you got?
And let's give some love to Snow's
outdoor living.
Snow's Outdoor Living.
We got Trevor Chandler
coming on the show from Snow's Outdoor Living.
He's a landscape designer.
Trevor Chandler's going to come on the show on
Wednesday, September 23rd.
And Trevor Chandler is going to, he grew up in Charlottesville.
I just found this out from Trevor Chandler.
We're going to have to get Trevor Chandler's photo on screen.
Trevor Chandler sent me this, and we're going to talk about this on the show.
He grew up in Charlottesville.
He's a key lieutenant of Corbin Snow, Trevor Chandler.
I want to start getting his photo on screen.
You took his picture.
We'll do that.
We'll do that when we get back from vacation.
Trevor Chandler says one story that immediately comes to mind that we can talk about
on the I Love Seville show is the down.
downtown mall. My great grandpa planted all of those trees back when Snow's was a tree company.
Now it's really cool to see that as the trees are dying from old age and urban conditions,
the city is carving them into statues on the mall. And his great grandpa planted the trees on the
mall. That's awesome. That is awesome. And I do like how they're repurposing the trees. I would
like to do it with the tree in our courtyard. Can we carve that oak tree into a statue? I don't like
that oak tree. What would you like the statue to be of? You? No. I'm not Trump. I'm not Trump.
I don't know. How about Pocahontas? I don't know. That's a good question. Can you carve? I don't know
what you would carve that into. A cavalier?
Cavalier?
Maybe.
I mean, vote.
We vote to name the Christmas tree.
Good Lord.
Do we really want to go that route?
We know what they named the Christmas tree last year, right?
What do they name it?
I think it was like oatmeal three or something like that.
Let me see.
It was suitably absurd.
Oatmeal three.
That's bananas.
All right.
Next headline, what is it, Judah?
And Snow's Outdoor Living, if you need anything outdoor done,
we're having a patio and a fire pit built.
Guys, the patio and the fire pit, I can't wait to show you the finished product.
I'll probably do that today or this weekend.
It's going to be awesome.
Trevor and Corbyn's team at Snow's has made this process so enjoyable.
Patios and hardscapes and fire pits,
handpicked plantings, hydranias,
freshly laid sod, some turf and the difficult places to manicure.
the the return on investment on
outdoor hardscape is not just
financial it's quality of life
it's quality of life
what was the name of the tree juda you got to smirk on your face
there have been some good ones in previous years
or at least some fun ones
I'm guessing that there were some more before 2020
2020 was spruce Bader Ginsburg
2021 was oh here what 20 this is what I saw
2021 is oatmeal
Oatmeal
2022 was son of oatmeal
Then we get back to some fun ones
23 was Spruce Willis
Followed in 2024 by Spruce Lee
And then last year we had
Oatmeal the third
I'm not a fan of the oatmeal ones
I don't get the oatmeal ones
Why are you naming your
Christmas tree, oatmeal.
Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me.
Seriously, what are you doing here?
Next comment.
Next headline, Judah Wickauer, please.
Please, Juno.
Do we want to go back to Burgers?
I mean, we put the photos back on screen.
Nothing but Burgers is now open on the Little John spot.
There's a UVA graduate that's tied to this business.
Nothing but Burgers.
Conan Owen.
Conan Owen.
I have a hard time with that.
Conan Owen.
did the signage for nothing but burgers.
Five times fast?
I don't think I could do that.
Can you do that five times fast?
I don't know.
Conan Owen. Conan Owen.
Conan Owen. Conan Owen. Conan Owen.
How's five times fast?
Yeah, that wasn't bad.
Nothing but burgers now open in the former Little John's location.
Next headline, what do you got you to work on?
Former Congressman Bob Good.
90 seconds on this one. Let's go 30 to 60 seconds on this one.
It kind of surprised me.
Bob Good and Donald Trump don't get along.
Not that Donald Trump even knows who Bob Good is, but Bob Good rips Trump all the time.
And he's basically like, dude, what are you doing?
You're buying votes with this $5,000 on top of creating massive debt for our country,
which is the exact opposite on what you campaigned on.
Right.
Not to mention the fact that he's probably not even legally allowed to do it.
Yeah.
Dude, the Republicans are even calling out Donald Trump for this.
Because it's insane.
It's insane.
It's the school, it's the middle school president or the elementary school president
where you win the presidency at your high school or your middle school
by giving everyone free candy, promising them all day recess, pizza parties, and two extra
prom.
Except I think the amount he's offering is roughly equal to our yearly deficit.
It's insanity.
It's nuts.
It's insanity.
But this is the man that is doing.
ballrooms, wants to rename
golfs, and wants to rename
Straits, wants to put a statue
of himself and
currency of himself out there.
It's a megalomaniac.
Next headline, what do you got?
As we give attention to Charlottesville Sanitary Supply
and Charlottesville Swimming Pool Company, and their
recently launched division, Virginia vacuum
company. If you need a vacuum,
you go one place, and it's
John and Andrew Vermillion on East High Street.
They are authorized dealers
of a lot of brands. Our favorite is
meala. Once you get a meal
vacuum, you will never want
another vacuum, especially if you
have pets.
Warrantied, a repair man on
site, mila vacuums are the best.
And Virginia vacuum company
and division of Charlottesville Sanitary Supply
is where you purchase your vacuums.
Goodness gracious, the meal of vacuum is amazing.
Next headline, what do you got?
I think that's pretty much it.
All right, that's the talk show.
We are off next week.
Judah's with his family at a mansion on the beach of,
is it Corolla you go to?
Yep, Carolla.
Corolla?
Corolla?
All the way at the top of the outer banks.
It's a little more, it's a little quieter, I think, than further down, like, say,
duck where all the shopping is.
It fits our MO.
You find Judah.
ripping a dart and doing a crossword puzzle
while overlooking the sunset at the beach
probably from the deck of the mansion, right?
We've never been beachside.
That's like double the cost, I think, of any place.
Okay, you'll find Judah ripping a dart, doing a crossword puzzle
on the other side of the road looking at the sunset over the ocean.
I don't know how close will be.
While drinking a goza.
Potentially.
There you go.
Enjoy your vacation. You've earned it.
Thank you.
I love Seville Network off air next week.
I'm also on vacation with my family, and I'm very much looking forward to it.
Back in the saddle, ladies and gentlemen, on Monday, September 21,
with a new wrinkle for the show where we're going to try to integrate FaceTime perspective, video perspective,
from viewers and listeners, like I've done with Juan Sor Miento and Ginny Who.
Judah's going to think about it throughout his entire vacation to figure out of us.
I'm already giving you an option.
I'm Jerry Miller.
He's Judah Wick Cowher, and this is the number one media platform in Charlton.
So long, everybody.
It's the I Love Civil Show.
