And welcome, everybody to the everyday faith podcast.
This is Jeff Gaffney, your host.
Thank you so much for tuning in with this on the program.
today and every program. We have the co-host of the show, Dr. Wayne Fry. He is the lead pastor
at Faith Christian Center International. Dr. Fry, it's always great to hang out with you. Happy Labor
Day. You're a hardworking man and appreciate your time today. I'm super excited to be with you
today. What a beautiful day. We were just talking as we were prepping for the show. It's, doesn't you
feel like it's incredible to be alive when you breathe in that September. Here we are in
September. That September air in the morning is fantastic. It's been absolutely gorgeous lately.
Well, I have a couple places that I want to talk about. In the format of this show,
I'm going to be asking Dr. Frye some faith questions, and he happens to be my pastor.
He's the most anointed man that I know and has taught me faith from A to Z, and I'm back to A again.
I like that.
I like that.
Because I need a little bit more.
And he's so patient with me.
And, you know, I appreciate that.
But you're a great teacher.
And, you know, the format of the show is that, you know, I think the questions I have, there are questions that many others have similar to
questions so if you're watching the show and you have a question go ahead and and type it in the chat
if um if you have prayer requests at any time throughout the show we'd love that too we'd be
honored to pray for you and uh if if you come along in agreement with us you can type in an amen too
but pastor fry here's where i'd like to start today i have two passages i'll give you a little
preview. So I'm going to go Old Testament, New Testament. I want to start in the Old Testament. I'm going
to go to Genesis 13. Okay. And you know what I'm going to talk about there. And then I'm going to go
into the New Testament, Matthew Chapter 8, something that is new, fresh, and dear to my heart.
And I think these two may actually end up connecting to each other in some way,
but we'll explore that.
But here's how I want to tee up the first question for you.
On Genesis 13, it happens to be, the reason I chose that passage,
that was the first lesson I ever saw you teach live.
And I'm not going to get into all the backstory,
but it was essentially a supernatural event for me to get.
to your church. And I want to give a shout out because when I got to your church, and I don't
want to spend a lot of time on this, but I was in a, I was in a really discouraged place. I'll use
that word. I was, it was a painful period of my life. We were just coming out of COVID. So this
is just a couple years ago. We were coming out of COVID. I had, for a number of reasons,
found myself somewhat dejected, rejected, brokenhearted. And you wouldn't have known that
necessarily by seeing me. But on the inside, I was maybe even the walking embodiment of the
spirit of heaviness at that period in my life. And so to sort of supernaturally end up at
your church. Let me go a little bit further on this because I think you'll like this.
So, so I end up at Faith Christian Center International and I don't know anybody except for one
person, William Tilleri. And God was I glad to see him. And so William Tilleri is one of the ushers.
And so when I saw him, you know, he and I hadn't seen each other in quite a while.
It's after COVID. Nobody had seen anybody.
for a period of time.
I see him and I give him the bro hug and, you know,
we dab each other up and come to find out he's the usher.
So I say to William, as he's leading me into the church,
I'm like, you mind putting me in the back?
Like, I'll take the back corner if you don't mind.
Like, am I allowed to have any input to where I sit?
And that brother, he is so cool.
he basically put me in a full Nelson and took me into what we would refer to as the overflow
seat, which is right behind Dr. Fry and his wife, Dr. Wendy. So I sit in there, that's cool.
I was like, all right, I'll follow your lead, William. So here I am. And it was powerful. I understand
why it's the overflow seat. I mean, you and Dr. Wendy anointed people.
And there's a lot that I respect about both of you, but what I was really looking for in my life was the fact that you appeared to be in what I call spiritual alignment.
You know, a man who doesn't just talk it but lives it.
You know, both those two things come together.
Sometimes you talk it and, you know, you run into people, but they don't live it.
And, you know, I was looking for, you know, I was like, well,
I want what he has.
And so I'm in the overflow seat, and the first message that you teach is on Genesis 13.
So I'm going to ask you to just give us a few highlights of the Genesis 13 passage.
It's the breakup between, it's Abraham, but at that time it was Abram.
the breakup between Abram and Lot and really what was important to me for this period of time in my life
was you spoke about vision and the importance of vision and I need you to know that at that period of time
I was struggling for vision and you taught on this and as soon as you taught and I'm going to let you take it away in just a second
But as soon as you taught on this, it was as if everybody else in the sanctuary disappeared.
And now my spiritual coach is pouring into me.
And that was a very important Sunday in the history of my life.
So that's a long-winded way of saying, thank you for that.
Thank you to William Tillery for keeping me in the full Nelson and not letting me
peek out the back. Right, right. And, you know, I got there, received that message, and honestly,
never looked back. Praise God. Praise God. Well, thank you for sharing. You know, I do what I do.
And, you know, sometimes I don't get those backstories of how a certain lesson or a certain
principle or a certain Sunday has really impacted, you know, a person. So thank you for sharing.
Like this past Sunday, you know, I'm teaching on, you know, destiny. I'm teaching on, you know,
I'm going to get to Genesis 13 in the second. I'm teaching on destiny and everybody has a destiny.
And as a young man sitting in the congregation, he comes up later. He's like, everything you spoke
was what I needed to hear the day. And I'm now, I just had a reset and I'm ready to go forward.
And I was like, it's just, it's just amazing how, you know, a word, one word from God can really impact the person and shift and change their outlook or their vision or where they're headed in life.
And so when you go back to Genesis.
13, as you kind of preface it a little bit. So we have this clash of Abram and Lot because over the years
they have grown in terms of people, servants, assets, cattle, the whole nine yards. And so where they
were staying, it just became too small and too tight. And so where lots people were having contention
with Abrams people, Abrams people was having tension with lots people. And Abram got to the point
It's like one day he's like, listen, we got too much, and so we got to break this up, right?
And so he tells Lott, he gives him the choice, he gives him the preference, which I thought was interesting because he's the patriarch.
He's the one who heard from God, right?
It was Lott who snuck in to the wagon or snuck in to the caravan or whatever.
God never told Lott to follow him or to go where he'd tell him to go.
He told Abram, and so Abram obeyed God, don't know what.
what Lott thought, I guess he figured, I'm getting out of here too.
And so he kind of ends up with Abram.
But yet Abram gives him his preference.
He's like, you choose where you want to go and wherever you want to go.
I'm going to be good with it.
And I'll take the last or the rest.
And so you think about he's the elders, he's the patriarch, he's the one that heard from God,
he's the one that's been leading this whole thing, but yet he gives lot preference.
So Lott then, you know, looks towards Sodom and says, okay, I'm going over there. He says, fine. But in that moment, which is, which is I appreciate so much and I love this passage of script. In that moment, right around verse 14 of Genesis 13, God then speaks to Abram one more time. And he says, Abraham, from right where you are, he says, look to the north, look to the south, look to the east, and look to the west. He says, whatever you can see,
or how far you can see, I'll deliver it to you.
And so that principle there says, now, if we can see it,
God can deliver it to us.
The scripture says we walk by sight,
faith and not by sight,
but we still need to be able to see something
in order to achieve something or receive something
because that's how God delivers it to us.
It's a beautiful story, and it impacted me
because, again, when I first heard that message,
my head was down,
and I was not looking up and so when you listen to that and it's and it's interesting you know on my
faith journey to be you know that here we are talking about the book of Genesis the very first
book in the Bible the 13th chapter of Genesis like what does that book what does that
scripture from way back when what does that have to do with me
And to receive that word and understand, well, that has everything to do with my position that I was in at that time, my head was down, I had no vision, and I needed the command to look up, look up, look up, look up.
And what God was drawing me and using you to teach me was God was saying, I've got so much more for you, but you're going to have.
have to do your part you're going to have to lift your head up right right too so so often people are
you know just basically focused on what's in front of them like what go dealing with this in life okay
this situation has and and it has the ability uh or a situation has the ability to take all of our
focus and so i love that's why the scripture says lift up your head first you got to you got to
choose now to take your eyes off what is and then be able to lift up your head and be able to lift up your head
and be willing to look at something that that's possible that's available to you.
Let me mention this as, again, part of my story, the backstory, as I'm receiving this message
on lifting up your head and the importance of vision, I want you to understand that the spirit
of heaviness that I spoke about, what happens, if any of our listening,
have felt this spirit of heaviness, which is, again, I'd like to refer to that as
really heavy discouragement. I'm not going to go any further with that, but there's
further, there's cousins to it, deeper versions of it, but it was heavy discouragement
combined with rejection, heartache, other things. There's a whole basketful. But what happens
is, and this is, I'd like to get your opinion on this, Dr. Fry, is the spirit of heaviness
removes a lot of your vision because what ends up, for me, what I found, I was walking around
in, you know, you might call it a dark cloud or foggy, it might be another way, it's just,
I couldn't find my vision. And what I need you to understand, Dr. Frye, is that,
when you are in that position, you are wide open for the attack of the enemy.
I mean to tell you, because you have no vision, you can't see where you're going,
and all of a sudden, you take a body, oh, you know, this thought comes in, and you haven't armored up,
you haven't grabbed the shield of faith for the fiery dog.
arts of the enemy, right? And so you're just under attack. But this is a, I'll call this kind of a
parallel lesson that you gave me. The Bible is very clear in Isaiah 61, which is a chapter that's
dear to both of us, is that for the spirit of heaviness, put on the garment of praise. So I learned
that. And when I learned that, guess what?
what happens the fog disappears right and when you combine the disappearance of the heaviness the
disappearance of the fog the disappearance of the fog the funk and um dark cloud then then all of a
sudden you can lift your head and get that vision that you're referencing in genesis 13 but in order to
break, to break the spirit of heaviness, I had to learn myself. You can teach it to me. You can
preach it to me. But I have to myself put on that garment of praise. And it started so simple for me.
It was just like, thank you God that, you know, I made it to church today. Thank you, God, that I have a car that
has some gasoline in it, Lord. Thank you for that. And then it builds. And it builds. And then all of a
sudden, that's gone. And then when you lift your head, God gives you that message that he has
so much more for you. And I wanted to share that for the listener who maybe is feeling a little
down for whatever reason. There are so many ways that the enemy tries to attack us and keep us
dejected. But I wanted to make sure that you heard for the spirit of heaviness, put on a garment
of praise. It's part of my testimony. And then this passage in Genesis, I would encourage you to
visit that passage on your own in Genesis. Read it. It comes down at the bottom of that chapter.
I believe it's sort of the end of chapter 13. But just read the whole chapter. And you will
understand this principle of lifting up your head. Because the other part that I wanted to bring in,
the Bible also says
without vision
the people perish
you've got to have a vision
yeah one translation says people
cast off restraints which simply means they do
whatever they feel like doing in the moment
there's no direction there's no
there's no strategy no intent
it's just like whatever you feel like doing
and sometimes when people are dealing with the spirit of
evidence they don't want to do anything
it's like I because because of the
discouragement that they're that they're
now kind of walking in or living under, it just zaps their energy and they don't want to do
anything. And so when you don't do anything, or you don't do anything, nothing happens, nothing
changes. It just remains the same and kind of bills and snowballs over time. But you brought
out some good points when dealing with this spirit of heaviness or discouragement and the whole
basket full of stuff that goes along with it, you know, the first cousins of the scarcely.
Well, you know.
A whole basket of demons that go along with it, I can tell you.
And it goes back to one of the comments I was making is that discouragement, you know,
is designed that just capture your focus.
Like all you're thinking about is why me, woe me, you know, everybody's against me, nobody's for me.
God has left me.
My friends have left me.
My family has left me.
You know, I can't do anything right.
You know, if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
Now, all these things just kind of begin to grow on the inside of your thinking.
And now that just captures your focus.
And now when you bring in Isaiah 61, where he says, okay, for the spirit of heaviness, put on the garment of praise, there is a divine supernatural exchange that's available.
And I think it's powerful that you mentioned that now that's our part.
God is not going to remove the garment of heaven.
and then cloak you with the spirit of praise,
that's something that we do.
We take off.
We remove or we exchange the heaviness that we're under
and we take on or put on the government of praise.
It's almost, if we can illustrate it,
like it's almost like changing a jacket.
Like, you know, you maybe had a light jacket during the day
and then in the evening it gets a little cooler.
You don't go out in that same jacket.
You now put on something else.
So in the same way, that's the exchange between the Spirit of Heaviness and the Garmin of Praise.
But now, the important thing to understand is that when you praise God, guess what?
Your focus changes.
Yes.
Your focus changes from what is or what's discouraging or what's heavy.
And now because you're praising God, you're now focused now goes to God.
Who can do all things.
Who can heal, who can deliver, who can pick us up.
from from where we are so now praising god now takes your focus from uh on to god and now just
i don't know um i guess supernaturally i would say you do literally lighten up yes and you square
your shoulders and and you begin to lift up your head and it's like okay it's yeah it's gonna be
okay yes it's okay i okay god's good right god's powerful god's great he has he has plans
for me. You know, Jeremiah 229, he has plans for me.
Psalm 115, he's thinking of me. You know, those kind of things.
Through our praise of God, now God begins to be able to minister to us and say, okay, I got
you. I got you. I'm not, I'm still here. May not feel like it in the moment, but I'm still here
because I never leave you. So important, so important. And I think that also, when that exchange
happens for the spirit of heaven is put on the garment of praise, I believe from experience,
it puts you in position to receive.
Yes.
And so now when you've repositioned yourself out of the fog and the dark cloud that you're walking around in,
now you can receive from the Lord and there's everything available to receive when you start
thinking about it because the praise has brought you into the presence of God.
And you've taught on it many times.
Psalm 16, in his presence, is fullness of joy.
So there's joy there for me.
But I've got to get out of the funk.
Right.
I got to get out of the mist, the fog, the dark cloud.
I got to lift my head up and position myself, reposition myself to receive.
And you've taught on that so well.
And now I'm to the point, Dr. Fry, I need to get to Matthew 8 because there's so much here.
But I want you to know that I now preemptively put on the garment.
I might even say this.
I never take it off.
Amen.
That's right.
That's right.
And you mentioned something earlier as well.
You're like, okay, it's easy to make that exchange.
It's just the thought that people have, that it's hard.
Like, what do I have God?
What do I have the thank God for?
Right.
You know, when you're really going through, that's one of those questions that people have.
I mean, this is not working.
This is not working.
That didn't work.
That didn't work.
I don't know what to do now.
What is it that I have to thank God for?
Okay, you're living, you know, you're alive, you're breathing, you know, you have clothes, whatever.
Just the simplest things can redirect that focus and redirect.
You know, your outlook just by thinking, okay, let me stop.
Let me just stop.
Okay, let me take a moment and let me find what I can be thankful.
And it's not hard.
Again, I'm still here.
All this stuff I've been through could have taken me.
I could have been done, but I'm still here, right?
I'm still functioning.
I haven't gone crazy yet.
You know what I?
Those kind of things.
And I might be maybe talking to someone in the audience now that's face.
in the challenge or that that really feels like they're at the end of their road and really sometimes
you know god is always with us but sometimes when we get to that place uh is where we really become
aware yes that god is really there and god is really for me and so i just want to encourage someone
that that may be listening to us or watching us right now that hey it's not over you you still got
opportunities but you got to change your outlet you got to change what you're focused on
I know it's tough.
I know it's been in rough patch, but no, just begin to lift up your head.
Change your posture, change your position.
Take on, put on that garment of praise and watch God speak to you and lead you into another place in life.
Pastor Fry, I really, I want to, the spirit is telling me to call an audible and head over to James Chapter 1.
But I'm not going to do that.
But we will revisit that on the program, because I've already announced we're going to
Matthew chapter 8 and that is such a fresh word that I want to unpack for our listeners and again
this is the everyday faith podcast Jeff Gaffney your host Dr. Wayne Frye he's a lead pastor at
Faith Christian International thank you so much for tuning in if you have any questions if you
have any comments if you have any prayer requests we'd love to hear from you so just keep
them come. I appreciate you all so much for tuning in. Now we're going to shift to Matthew
chapter 8. Let me set this stage and then I'll hand it to you. Matthew chapter 8, wow,
so powerful. I know I've read it before, but we just unpack this as a church recently. And so what
happens in Matthew chapter 8 is you have to kind of look back and maybe even start back at Matthew
chapter 5, which is where Jesus goes up and preaches what's known as the sermon on the
Mount or the beatitudes. And so it's a, that's a whole other show for us to unpack. But it's
almost like he's bringing out kind of the, here's, here's the new vision of the kingdom of
God. He's revealing this. And there's huge.
crowds that are now following Jesus and listening to this message and hearing about the kingdom
of heaven straight from the mouth of Jesus. So you can imagine this is a very powerful sermon.
It's been written about in, I guess, three of the four Gospels. And very powerful, very impactful.
you get to the end of Matthew chapter 7 and what Matthew chapter 7 reveals is as the sermon is finishing
those that were listening to the sermon were astounded by his authority he spoke with such authority
and so that that was something that they took away from that along with many other things but they were
really talking about his authority. And so now Jesus finished a sermon. He's coming down the hill.
He was up the hill. Now he's coming down. And I'd love to talk about when somebody has an intersection
with Jesus. And we have in chapter 8, it's called the leper meets Jesus, essentially. And before we
talk about that. I want you to know something, Dr. Fry, that the Lord revealed to me as I've thought
more about this passage, the intersection with Jesus and this leper. I've thought about it a lot
because we're going to get to in just a second. So hang in there, listeners. But I think that that leper
was on the periphery of the crowd that heard the sermon on the mount.
But he knew his place.
A leper in those days, he couldn't come close.
But he's out on the periphery,
and he's hearing about the kingdom of God.
He's hearing it.
And one of the principles that you've taught so well
is that faith comes by hearing.
Right.
In hearing the Word of God.
So he's hearing it straight from the mouth of Jesus.
I believe what that leper, this is just my belief, and it may be a romantic notion, but I believe
that the leper heard, one of the many things that he heard was seek first the kingdom, and all
these things will be given to you as well.
That's just my belief.
There's nothing that directly correlates it, but it's there kind of, it flows in that
direction. So nonetheless, he's coming down the mountain. That was my own commentary. It's coming
down the mountain. Here's Jesus coming down the mountain. Everybody's following down the mountain.
And now, sort of, I picture it as, you know, out of the woods, out of the shadows, this leper
jumps right in front of Jesus. And it says that he fell down and worshipped Jesus first.
and then the leper out of desperation the leper you have to understand in those days the leper was he was headed
one direction towards death eventually and he had no doubt experienced pain beyond anything that we
can really understand not only physical pain but emotional pain the lepers were outcasts yes
everybody
ridicule
everybody would have turned their back
on the leper
and in some ways
the customs in those days
forced you to stay away from the leper
and for your own health reasons
because in some ways it was contagious
but the leper falls down in front of Jesus
and you can imagine
there's a huge crowd following Jesus down the hill
what's this leper doing the leper comes
and he worships
and then he gets right up in the face of
Jesus boldly. Your word. Boldly. Yes. He boldly. He doesn't, he doesn't sheepishly. I mean, he comes in
bold and he worships who pays respect to Jesus, worships. And then he says, Lord, you can heal me
if you really want to. Right. And then Jesus says, I'm going to pass it to you.
Jesus says the words that are still ringing in my ear.
Jesus says to him, he says,
of course I want to heal you.
Be healed.
And he was healed.
Absolutely.
Instantly, the scripture says.
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable passage.
And I'm just captivated by, again, I'll hand it to you for your comments on it,
but I'm captivated by when we see in action.
both the um ability of jesus to his ability to heal and his willingness to heal that putting that
together and then of course we see the love and compassion of jesus and so so again i'm handing
this to you but as as as we study that and we say well how does that apply to me i'm i'm gonna let
you answer some of that, but, um, but I'm just, I'm just captivated. It's, it's Matthew chapter
eight, well worth the read. And we've been studying it in the passion translation, but all the
translations are incredible. And that interaction, what would you say about it, Dr. Fra. Well, we,
you bring out, you know, and you're kind of laying it out, you bring out some good points. And
while you were talking, this is what kind of was highlighted, you know, in, in, in me, uh, as you
were talking because when when i'm looking at scripture and especially stories of uh you know exploits
and and miracles and those kind of things i i like to i like to do my best to to pull up a chair
and and kind of be in the moment like put myself in the region put myself in the time put myself in
that moment almost like a fly on the wall kind of kind of mentality like okay what what can i
What can I extract out of this?
What's he really saying to provide this particular example in scripture?
Because the Bible says that there was so many exploits of Jesus that there are not enough books available to contain them.
So what about this one that we should be paying attention to?
And so I like to pull up a chair and like, okay, all right, let's watch this all play out.
There's a deep lesson here for us.
And so when you were talking about it, you was like, okay, this man had leprosy.
He was, he had to be on the outskirts.
He couldn't be in the, in the crowd.
You didn't have a front row seat, right?
He didn't, he wasn't in the first few rows.
Probably wouldn't in the back row.
Probably wouldn't even in the region, maybe on the hill, you know, maybe over in some, some, some brush or something like that because he couldn't be in public.
But as you was talking and you kind of highlighted that, the distance that he had was from Jesus,
or had to be from Jesus or the public had to have made him lean in more to hear what he was saying.
Amen.
Because, you know, the further you're away, that was no microphones and PA systems, you know, in that time.
So the further somebody is away from Jesus, you know, they had to lean in.
And that's something about, you know, that posture that, okay, you're on the front row.
You can hear everything.
You know, you can pass notes.
you can, you know, you talk to your neighbor, comment, and those kind of things.
But when you're far away and then you're, and then you have a need like he had to be healed
because there was no medical remedy for leprosy.
It was like a miracle or death.
And so here he is leaning in, and I think him leaning in, put him in a different kind of posture
than many of the other ones that were around.
And so he could hear what he really needed to hear.
And that faith came.
So now he comes, and I believe probably where he was sitting and whatnot,
the path of Jesus probably came right on down there.
And he was probably like, this is my moment.
This is my moment right now.
If it's not now, it may be never.
Might come to Jesus moment.
Exactly.
This is it.
So he jumps out, as I kind of see it in my mind, he jumps out and comes right to Jesus.
And listen, you can heal me if you want to.
Because if he didn't come boldly, there would have been people that would have pushed him away or don't come close.
Don't come close to the rabbi.
Exactly.
So he had to seize the moment.
Right.
And so he had, so in addition to that, he had to, in his mind, again, I'm in the story now.
In his mind, he had to navigate a path where he could, he would not touch or he would or he would not be recognized.
by the crowds that were with Jesus
because the moment somebody
sees the leprosy, it's like
ah, leprosy, leprosy.
Get them out.
It's like, you know, it's five along fire, right?
Right.
And so now he has strategically
probably covered up, probably cloaked,
probably draped, and probably just coming in
and just strategically, you know,
and again, I'm in the story now.
Just kind of like, all right, okay, all right.
And then boom, right in front of Jesus.
Jesus, don't wait.
any tight don't waste in time worships first yes worships first that's important which got jesus's
attention yes jesus now teaching all these people all of a sudden one man comes out of nowhere
and starts worship where was the leper yeah where was the worship from everybody else
this one man comes out of the blue and now he's worship whoa whoa what what and then when he
finished his worship he said jesus you can heal me if you want to and jesus says of
course I do. Man, that's powerful. Be healed instantly. And so that's the intersection because
most people, like we've, we've had conversation before, but most people have no issue with the
ability of God. God can do all things. Jesus can do all things. The only thing he can't do is
fail. And the only thing he can't do is lie. So we are emphatic about that. But now when it comes
down to his willingness. Williness. Yes. He is able.
but is he willing to heal me?
Is he willing to do something for me?
And this passage of this story, this example,
is the resounding announcement that not only is he able,
he is willing.
And not only is he willing,
he has a, he has a desire to meet your need.
Can you package that?
We only have a few minutes left.
but can you package that for the listener who needs to hear that Jesus, of course Jesus, can
heal you, meaning that this story wasn't just a one and done for the leper, that this posture,
attitude, willingness, ability of Jesus is available for the listener as well.
Absolutely, because the scripta tells us that God is no respect to persons.
And so what he would do for one, he's willing to do for others.
And unfortunately, wrong teaching and incomplete teaching has said,
okay, people need to now qualify for what Jesus can do for.
That's not what scripture really teaches.
Scripture teaches that Jesus, through his obedience, qualified us.
Amen.
Right?
So now, we now, we now.
what we understand he's able to do we now need to embrace not only he's able to do it but he's also
willing to do it and i don't have to go through hoops i don't have to jump through hoops i don't have
to uh you know do backflips i don't have to do everything right for three consecutive days and
then god uh would do something for me no i can come just as i am i just as i am and god is open
he's compassionate and he's willing to meet us right where we have a need but it requires our boldness
and our faith to approach him and as a as a believer in god and as a believer in jesus we have
certain rights and privileges absolutely right and so as you start to understand uh by his stripes
i am healed and so when you take that message and you
overlay that into Matthew chapter 8 that kind of shows you that you too you don't just have to read
about it with the leper but you the listener can step into this moment yes right this is for you
exactly exactly and me and us right because scripture in my scriptures are written for us to
find out what's what's ours or what's for us even for the especially for the believer but even
a non-believer that might be watching us right now that having entered into a relationship
with Jesus, there's things available even for them. That's the born-again experience.
Yes. There's a love and compassion of Jesus because the scripture says he's died for us all,
not just those of us who have accepted him. And he's died for us all. And so he's not even going to
cast away or push away or keep away those that don't yet have a relationship with him because
it's the goodness of God that leads men to repentance. And so no matter, listen to no matter what
you're facing, no matter what level of life that you're in, Jesus is here for you. God has set this
up, this up for you to be minister to, to be blessed, to be healed, to be whole. Just do as we're
talking about the leper. Be bold enough and come to God and say, God, you can do this for me if you
want to, and I know that God will respond. Of course, I do. Receive it. Amen. And if there's any of our
listeners who, maybe they're on the outside of faith, they haven't crossed the line of faith,
you know, I'm reminded of Romans chapter 10 versus 9 and 10. When you study the scripture,
the scripture there says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord,
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
You will be saved.
We will be saved.
And so, Pastor Fry, we're like totally out of time.
But I did want to mention in the balance of chapter 8 of Matthew, it actually goes to the next story is the centurion.
And I thought about this, how beautiful the gospel is.
the fact that we have the leper being healed,
kind of low man on the totem pole,
and then the centurion, right?
Man of authority.
So we have the leper and the centurion,
both receive healing in the same chapter of the Bible,
totally different kind of class,
where they're located,
class-wise and um but but yet they they both end up you know humbly coming to the lord there's a
humility that and and maybe next week on the show we'll because we're out of time we'll tackle a
little bit of the centurion because i love that story as well and and jesus comes out and and really
um pays respect to the centurion and of of um
of all the people that he compliments.
Here's a Gentile soldier who he ends up saying,
I've not seen great faith like this.
And so kind of the ultimate faith compliment, right, by Jesus.
But we'll talk about that maybe next week.
That's our teaser for next week's show.
Okay, excellent, excellent.
Gosh, but I tell you, I can talk about this all day.
And that chapter in Matthew, again, the beginning portion of Matthew with the interaction with the leper has been, it has really ministered to me.
And one other thing is, you know, we're running out of time.
But as I think back to the leper in the crowd, the other message that I feel like the leper has sort of embodied and,
lived out when it comes to the sermon on the mount and what he might have received he sort of the
fulfillment of because you mentioned that the the leper was leaning in to hear the message of jesus right
and so what i thought of was those blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
for they will be filled right and boy did the leper
hunger there was a hunger there and you know later we see that the centurion had a certain type of hunger
but hunger maybe maybe that's synonymous in some ways with the boldness yeah you know they kind of
one maybe one feeds the other right boldness passion the whole nine yards one of our mentors years
ago used to tell us this that um god is only obligated to give drink to those that are thirsty
And so you see that even in the life of Jesus that there were people around them all the time, but you don't see everybody receiving.
Sometimes they would just surround him just to receive the extras, the whatever, just to hang out around Jesus.
But then there were some that the scripture highlights that had a different posture, they had a different kind of understanding of who Jesus was.
And then they walked away with much more than what a lot of the crowd did.
Amen. Oh, it's been so much fun hanging out with you. Thank you to all of our listeners for tuning in today for the Everyday Faith podcast. We'll be on every Monday. So check us out on all the different channels. Pastor Fry, again, I just want to, again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for just teaching me so much about faith. And you've been very patient with me.
lovingly corrected me from time to time. But you know, you need that as you as you're as you're
walking the faith or trying to walk in the faith life. You need somebody that you can turn to.
And that ends up being kind of the purpose of this whole show. I've asked Dr. Frye so many
questions. We thought wouldn't it be interesting if our friends Jerry Miller and Judah Wenkauer could
allow us on their program and they invited us in and Lord is good to us. Absolutely. Amen.
Well, it's been a pleasure. You have any big Labor Day plans? No, no, just relaxing.
Good. You should. You're a hardworking guy. And so I want to pray for all of our listeners
to all that are tuning in today or maybe you see this program.
later on. And again, we're so thankful for you checking out the show. We just pray that the Lord
would bless you and keep you. May his face shun upon you and bring you peace. This is the
everyday faith podcast. Thank you so much again for tuning in. And again, don't forget,
if you have any prayer requests or comments or certainly questions, we welcome them. And
gosh, it's been a blast. I can't wait to do it again, Dr. Fry. Yeah, me too. We're looking
forward to it. You know, we have certainly other scriptures that come to mind just off of our
discussion today. One of the ones that I just read real quickly, I think we're heading to the
end line here, but in the Psalms, when you mentioned that the leper had to sort of navigate his way
to Jesus, I know you'll know this passage, but this just kind of came to mind because I was just
reading this recently. I think it's in Psalm 119. One of the verses in Psalm 119, it said that,
that your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
So, you know, our encouragement, again, is getting the word and watch what it'll do for you.
It'll minister.
I mean, it's been life-changing for me.
Exactly.
Yeah.
I want to, before we sign off, I just want to just encourage people.
They're looking for a good church home.
Amen.
They want to come and hear the word of God, fellowship.
shift and worship with us. We're every Sunday at 10 a.m. Faith Christians sent to the National
2186 Richmond Road, Charlottesville, Virginia. We love to have any of it. Oh, and let me tell you,
your life will never be the same. All for the better. Praise God. Absolutely. A great, great family.
Also, I want to thank some of the folks that have tuned in on the show. Thank you to Sister Mary for tuning in.
You know, she has been just a godsend to me.
She's been somebody who's been really supportive and poured into me.
Just a wonderful woman.
And she's been on the show.
And also, Sister Wunay.
Sister Wene, whenever you're given one of your talks,
preaching, teaching, and the phrase, but God comes in, she always kind of turns to me
and says, but God. It's sort of like, you know, this, this was happening and that was happening
and that was happening. But God. But God came in and interviewed. Well, again, I think we're out of time.
Thank you so much. And we'll see you guys next week on the Everyday Faith podcast.
Praise God.
God bless.
God bless.
Thank you.
