Starting point is 00:00:00 Good Friday, Friday afternoon guys. My name is Jerry Miller. Thank you kindly for joining us on the I Love Seaville show. It's great to connect with you guys through the I Love Seaville network on a busy afternoon for news in our studio in downtown Charlottesville. A lot we're going to cover in the program. We have the Department of Justice that is, the DOJ is flexing their muscle trying to get Jim Ryan to resign. They are leveraging federal funding
Starting point is 00:00:35 to get the president of the University of Virginia to resign. Is this overstep? Is this overreach? Is this the Department of Justice, you know, basically acting within its power and capabilities? How will the University of Virginia respond? The New York Times in a report yesterday has much of the University of Virginia community in a sense of uncertainty, some in a sense ‑‑ in a fit of rage, others basically saying this was brewing and breeding for some time. As the University
Starting point is 00:01:16 of Virginia seems to be doing the three‑card Monte, the hustler on the corner of Midtown and Manhattan with the cardboard box and a little white ball under three cups doing the do-si-do, trying to hustle tourists out of a $100 bill with the University of Virginia rebranding or redirecting diversity, equity and inclusion under different monikers despite pressure from the Board of Visitors, despite pressure from the governor, despite pressure from Trump's administration to eradicate diversity, equity and inclusion in totality from Thomas Jefferson's university. Some have said that all they're doing is rebranding DEI and not eradicating it.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Now, ladies and gentlemen, Trump's administration has the University of Virginia under investigation by the DOJ for continuing diversity, equity and inclusion practices despite President Trump saying no more. We're going to talk about this today. The University of Virginia has issued a response. Judah Wickhauer has a take, I have a take. Curious of what your take is the viewer and listener. This show is interactive. We want you, the
Starting point is 00:02:25 viewer and listener, to offer perspective on this topic. We'll talk on today's show, ladies and gentlemen, Bounce, Play and Create closing after 15 years in Seminole Square. This has had a handful of different owners, Bounce, Play and Create. The current owners have announced on Instagram that they are officially closing. 15 years, is that iconic status? It may not be the exact definition of iconic, but 15 years is a generation of serving the Charlottesville
Starting point is 00:02:56 community. And bounce play and create is now closing. We'll talk about that. How about this crazy story? The rats are taking over the courthouse. This is like Ratatouille in the kitchen. Rats are taking over the newly built courthouse and are closing the courthouse potentially until the rat infestation is under control. We'll talk about that today. There's a petition to save Kroger. This boggles my mind. Are people that infatuated with Kroger, that in love with the hydraulic Kroger, that a petition is needed? Why not just go to Rio Hill or Barracks Road to do your grocery shopping? Now, I'm saying this as someone who does not do grocery shopping for his family unit. So if I'm incorrect or wrong here, let me know. A lot we're going to cover on the program. We
Starting point is 00:03:56 remind the viewers and listeners, I've touched on this in previous shows, but it's in the headline rundown. Heading out of town to the beach for vacation. We'll be back in the saddle on Monday, July 14th. So the I Love Seaville Network taking a well-earned respite and vacation until Monday, July 14th. And when we return, you will see some new talent infused into the I Love Seville network. Very excited for that new talent. A lot we're going to cover on the show. I have two story items that did not make the rundown. One of them, Virginia tennis alum Chris Rodish, a 2024 graduate graduate has earned a spot in the main drawl of the Wimbledon tennis championships. He's currently ranked 163 in the world.
Starting point is 00:04:52 He earned his position in the main drawl by winning three matches in a qualifying tournament. This is pretty monumental news. The 34th Wimbledon main drawl appearance for the Virginia men's tennis program, Roddish becomes the 10th different Cavalier to play in Wibbleden's main draw. So when Wibbleden starts, ladies and gentlemen, on the 30th, which is Monday, you have a UVA tennis player in the draw and 2024 graduate Chris Roddish. And I wish him the best of luck. Another piece of news that did not make the rundown.
Starting point is 00:05:31 I showed photos yesterday of Blue Ridge Brewery, the first brewery in Charlottesville history, photos from 1989. Can you put those photos on screen? These photos that are on screen now, are they on screen now? Take a look at the screen. 1989 Blue Ridge Brewery, the first brewery in Charlottesville and in central Virginia. It has since closed. This location on West Main Street is where Star Hill was founded.
Starting point is 00:06:01 This is Blue Ridge Brewery and Restaurant in 1989. These photos were published, I learned this after the show, from Dave Warwick, who's the brewmaster of Three Notched. He sent me this message, he says, first the show was fantastic, as always Jerry. I say thank you Dave, Dave you make some of the best beer, not just in Virginia, not just on the East Coast, but in the world. I sincerely mean that, Dave Warwick. He says, Jerry, just thought you might be interested in knowing that Charlie Papazin, I'm going to go with Papazin, Dave,
Starting point is 00:06:42 is the founder of the Brewers Association. He's one of the very biggest, if not the biggest, name in American craft beer. Until he retired recently, if you won a medal at the World Beer Cup or the Great American Beer Festival, you shook his hand. The highest honor for a brewer. Even cooler that he went to the University of Virginia and he shared the story of Blue Ridge Brewery on social media. So I want to highlight what happened here.
Starting point is 00:07:09 I saw these photos circulating on social media, 1989 Blue Ridge Brewery, the first brewery in Charlottetown. I talked about these photos on yesterday's show. After yesterday's show, I got a direct message from Dave Warwick, who's the brewmaster at Three Notch. He's a friend of mine, he's an A plus guy, one of the most stand up guys you will ever meet ever, Dave Warwick. Die Hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Die Hard Saved by the Bell fan, Die Hard 90210 fan,
Starting point is 00:07:38 knows pop culture like the Pope knows holy water, Dave Warwick. He sends me a direct message and he says the man who published these photos is a UVA graduate and the founder of the Brewers Association, the guy legitimately who you shake his hand when you win a national beer award as a brewer. He also highlights that this Charlie guy has recently retired, Papi Zane, I'm butchering the last name as they butcher most people's last names on this program. It's Judah Whitecower today and Jerry Millenstein. So I want to thank Dave for the back run on this and I'm grateful and feel honored that someone of Dave's caliber is even watching the program and I sincerely mean that, my friend.
Starting point is 00:08:22 All right, let's get to the nitty-gr. Studio camera in a two shot, please, Judah Whitecower. Judah Whitecower, I kid because I care. Good god, so much to cover, dude. Not enough space in the rundown. You're going to have, first of all, maybe Judah's most important headline that's on screen. He's going to have a hiatus from me for a couple of weeks and somewhere inside Judah is singing a song of happiness. I'm sure there will be daily, if not hourly,
Starting point is 00:08:55 if not minute by minute phone calls. He kids, but not really. It will certainly be daily check ins on work production. If not, probably every three hour request for FaceTime on work production. But that is the nature of business ownership. Headline most intriguing to you, is it Jim Ryan? Yeah, it's pretty close to my most ‑‑ Dude can't catch a break. He can't catch a break! He can't catch a break. And this, I mean, this may be, this could be a push to get something done before we get a new governor. It's just, it's, it's, we'll set the stage for this story in T minus 90 seconds.
Starting point is 00:09:43 We want to give some love to Charlottesville Sanitary Supply. 61 years in business, John Vermillion and Andrew Vermillion are the creme de la creme. The Vermillion family is four generations in Alamaro County and their family business, Charlottesville Sanitary Supply, is three generations long. East High Street, the physical location, and online at Charlottesville Sanitary Supply.
Starting point is 00:10:06 This business is a special, special business. Support the businesses that you want to see survive. As yet another business is closing, this one, Bounce Play and Create, will get to that story in a matter of moments. I also want to highlight what we're doing with Charlottesville business brokers. If you are on the cusp of closing your business, the cusp of retiring, or if you're doing with Charlottesville Business Brokers. If you are on the cusp of closing your business, the cusp of retiring, or if you're doing extremely well and you wanna cash out with your business,
Starting point is 00:10:30 Charlottesville Business Brokers, our firm, a division of the Miller organization, is who you wanna contact. More than $4 million in business transactions over the last 24 months. We're working on a business right now, ladies and gentlemen, where the seller's willing to carry some paper, paying himself well north of $500,000
Starting point is 00:10:48 in the home services category. He's got a boatload of branded vehicles and a lot of upside with the business. Now, before you start DMing me and saying, I want more information, a non-disclosure agreement is going to be signed, proof of financials, before I provide you anything from my client. But this is as good a business as I've ever sold. And it's at a $2.5 million asking price. He will carry paper on a 10-year term at a fixed interest rate, and there will be a lease back.
Starting point is 00:11:23 But the upside on this purchase is significant. Charlottesville Business Brokers, online at Charlottesvillebusinessbrokers.com. I'm going to set the stage for Jim Ryan. If you have a photo of Jim Ryan before he took office at UVA and a photo of Jim Ryan right now, you will see a man that is extremely weathered, a man that has been whittled down like a number two pencil following the SATs. Okay? Now, this particular, this is a national headline, if not a global headline.
Starting point is 00:11:58 This is in the effing New York Times. This is the most prominent paper some would say in the world. I push back on that and say the most prominent paper in the world is the Wall Street Journal. I say maybe even in the number two slot is the Financial Times, New York Times in the three slot, but still some people say the New York Times is the most prominent paper in the world.
Starting point is 00:12:18 And according to a report yesterday in the New York Times, the Department of Justice is more than pressuring. They are bullying the University of Virginia to can pink slip Jim Ryan or risk losing federal funding. This is a monumental story. The story gets even more significant or even more clouded, the dynamic even more soap opera-esque with the... The, I mean, when you find out that the two of the people who are behind this new push are part of the U.S. Attorney's General Office of Civil Rights, they are a pair of UVA law graduates. One of them defended a Jewish student who had alleged that he was getting bombarded with anti-Semitic remarks among other things, threats potentially, and also was behind Morgan Bettinger getting an undisclosed
Starting point is 00:13:30 settlement from the university after her, whatever you want to call the university's lack of action to help her out. Listen to this, guys. Listen to this, guys. Listen to this, Judah. Listen to this, viewers and listeners. Donald Trump's administration is pressuring the University of Virginia, and it's utilizing two UVA law graduates to do the dirty work. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Donald Trump has two UVA law graduates doing the dirty work to shit can a UVA president because Trump doesn't like the fact that his edict of eradicating and eviscerating diversity, equity, and inclusion has not been followed. Not only has Trump offered that edict, but the Board of Visitors have also demanded that diversity, equity, and inclusion be eradicated from the University of Virginia. We are hearing the Jefferson Council is reporting and it's no secret that DEI is just being disguised or rebranded
Starting point is 00:14:56 as a different moniker at UVA. DEI administrators are being shuffled to different departments and DEI administrators are being shuffled to different departments. And DEI effort is being clouded or misrepresented as other efforts in this university ecosystem. Now Trump and the DOJ are flexing muscle. And the muscle they're flexing is hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars of federal contribution to the University of Virginia. Money so important to the University of Virginia that UVA issues a press release today basically bootlicking the federal government and the DOJ saying we need your money and stuck
Starting point is 00:15:48 somewhere in the crossfire right in the middle of this brouhaha is Jim Ryan whose tenure at UVA is checkered with questionable decision-making. In this particular circumstance, is Jim Ryan a fall guy? Is Jim Ryan the wrong guy? Is Jim Ryan stuck in a rock and a hard place? Is Jim Ryan receiving undue, unnecessary, and unfair pressure? Judah, first your take. Viewers and listeners, your take. I will offer my take last. My take is that Jim Ryan is stuck in the middle of a political battle and it's one that oddly,
Starting point is 00:16:42 is just odd. I mean, the Board of Visitors could, if it wanted to, fire Jim Ryan without cause. That's part of their power. But as Chris Graham notes ‑‑ Augusta Free Press, Chris Graham. Augusta Free Press. He notes that if the Board of Visitors were to fire Ryan, it would come with over $1 million price tag. They would owe him a year of his base salary as well as six months of vested sabbatical leave, which would come to $750,000 for his salary and 375 for the sabbatical. I'm not sure why they would want to save that money when I mean if that was the cost of keeping hundreds of millions of dollars from the federal government. Just seems strange, this go around.
Starting point is 00:17:51 I don't think that take is accurate. What Chris Graham is offering. I think what's really happening here, and are we online? Looks like we're having a bit of an issue. What is the issue we're having here? It's hard to tell, but it looks like we have a problem with the Internet coming through the... Is it online, yes or no?
Starting point is 00:18:19 OBS. Looks like we're dropping a lot of frames, but we have not cut off switchboard yet. So is that a yes or no? That means hopefully we'll get the ‑‑ so is that a yes or no? We're still recording. Okay. So we're not online? I don't think we're getting out anywhere. Can you let the viewers and listener know what's going on here? We seem to be running into an issue with our Internet connection. And it is cutting our frames, heading through the system.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Okay. I think we're back up and running here. We apologize. We're at the mercy of an Internet service provider and technology in Charlottesville with cell phones, with landlines and with ISPs and technology in general has been pretty miserable of late. Whose Verizon service has been down recently? Raise your hand if that's impacted you. It's certainly impacted me. I thank President Ryan, ladies and gentlemen. And, Judy, you need to give an update to the viewers and listeners who are hammering me with messages here. We're still experiencing issues. I don't think I can change anything in settings while we're live, but I'm going to see what I can do. He is, ladies and gentlemen, in this situation stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Starting point is 00:19:57 The Department of Justice is, my standpoint, the definition of overreach here. Why is the federal government flexing muscle and leveraging federal funding at a state university, at a public university in Virginia? This is a board of visitors conversation. This is board of visitors topic topic matter and this is Board of Visitors decision making. It's a bad look for UVA and frankly the Board of Visitors needed to do a better job of managing what is happening here. The BOV needs to jump in and take control of this situation. Is Jim Ryan's history with leadership littered and checkered with questionable decision making? Yes it is.
Starting point is 00:20:54 But in this particular circumstance, ladies and gentlemen, in this particular circumstance, the federal government and Donald Trump's administration should by no means be intervening with who is leading the University of Virginia. You may disagree with me on that. I'm not saying Jim Ryan is perfect. I think Jim Ryan has lukewarm support from UVA staff, administrators, mental management, upper management, lukewarm support. But in this particular case, I am on the side of Jim Ryan, not because I back his decision
Starting point is 00:21:34 making, but I'm on the side that the federal government should not be determining what is happening with this man's career and presidency at UVA. Yeah, I would tend to agree. The question is, what does the BOV do? The question is, what does the BOV do with limited time left with Yonkin and the governor's mansion? Those are all questions we need to ask. Anything you want to add to this?
Starting point is 00:22:12 No, I definitely think that this is government overreach, and it's not something that they should be involved in. Does he survive? I think he probably does. You think he survives? I mean, does he resign or is he fired? I don't think it's likely that he'll resign. And I think if they were going to fire him, they should have already done it. I agree with that. What a mess. Oh, and UVA needs the federal funding. Yeah, no doubt.
Starting point is 00:22:58 What a mess. Next topic, what do you got, Judah Wichower? We've got bounce, play, and create. 15 years, ladies and gentlemen, bounce, play, and create. 15 years of offering kids something to do and their families inside. Inside, ladies and gentlemen, is key. 15 years of serving the community. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:23:42 I'm surprised, frankly, it's made it this long. You think? It's gone through multiple ownership teams. I know of three. It may be more. Seminole Square, more turnover there. A massive space that could be vacant for a while. I'm not going to call it iconic, but 15 years is a generation of history. We'll add the business to the close list.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Please make a note of that and do that after the show. I think it's iloveseville.com forward slash closed. Sad story. A business that catered to kids and kept them off screens and technology is fine by me. A business catering to kids and having them do athletic aerobic activity away from screens, is closing its doors. What needs to happen in this community for local businesses to make it? That's a good question. Especially local businesses tied to children. You want to add something to this?
Starting point is 00:25:12 Yeah, I think it's a, you're right. It's a, it's a shame. I mean, it's a, 15 years is, is a, a good run for a business. And it's sad that Charlottesville keeps losing out on, on, you know, entertainment. Dude, did Jim Ryan just resign? Did he? I just got a text message from somebody that said, Jim Ryan just resigned. Wow.
Starting point is 00:25:36 All right, this is literally, is this breaking news during the show? I won't utilize your name. Did Jim Ryan just resign? Is the feed up and running? Looks like it, yeah. No. That's not. Did that just happen? I just got a text message. I'm literally having a text message sent to me. New York Times. I'm message sent to me, New York Times. I'm literally just responding to a text message. That's all I know at this point. Can you send me the link? I won't utilize your name on this. I am not seeing this on the New York Times site. Oh, my God. It literally just got posted
Starting point is 00:26:23 four minutes ago. University of Virginia president Jim Ryan resigns under pressure from Trump administration. Wow. The New York Times is reporting a story published, is this feed up and running right now? Yeah. We are at 100% broadcasting capability. We're green. Thank you for the anonymous texture
Starting point is 00:26:49 who sent me this information. The New York Times is reporting as of four minutes ago that Jim Ryan has officially resigned. Holy bejeebus. Thank you anonymous texture. This is happening in real time on the show. What do you make of this story? The University of Virginia president resigns under pressure from Trump administration. That's the headline in the New York Times right now. I'm surprised. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Do you have to reconnect YouTube? Let me check. Unbelievable. I'm completely at a loss for words right now. I'm never at a loss for words. You do have to reconnect YouTube. What a time to go on vacation. Margie King is absolutely flabbergasted by this. You need to put a headline up, New York Times reporting Jim Ryan has resigned. Deep Throat says you think Jim Ryan was looking to leave anyway, right? Yale would have been the best way, but second best way is to do what you were going to do
Starting point is 00:28:22 anyway and become a martyr and hero to the anti-Trump community. I get that deep throat, but does he become a martyr to the Trump community here? Does he become a martyr to the anti-Trump community here, Jim Ryan? Or does he become yet another whipping boy for Donald Trump? Like, you know what Trump is going to do now is he's going to tout Jim Ryan's resignation and keep Charlottesville in the news even more. Update the headline on screen if you can. New York Times reporting Jim Ryan has resigned. Holy Bejebus.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Ginny Hu, what do you make of this? Jason Noble, what do you make of this? What is the strategy behind him resigning? The person who sent me this text message who I very much trust your opinion very much, I will not say who you are because you haven't given me clearance to say who you are. And you understand that I respect anonymity when anonymity is needed. What do you make of this story? What is the strategy behind this? Is it what Deep Throat is saying? He then becomes a martyr for the anti-Trump? You're saying the strategy for Jim Ryan, his strategy
Starting point is 00:29:59 in resigning. I mean does he really want to become the poster boy for anti-Trump sentiment? Where does he take that? Right. Like, does he become what? Does that get him a job somewhere? Is that, I mean, I have a lot of questions. I ask them. We're doing this literally in real time. This literally happened four minutes ago. It's on their website. I'm looking at the headline. Breaking four minutes ago. Do we think he does this because he feels it's in the best interest of UVA to get out of the spotlight? Does he do it because he feels that UVA needs that money and he's the stumbling block to keeping federal money coming into UVA?
Starting point is 00:30:58 I mean, that's very altruistic. Spencer Pushard, Coco's Adventure Factory is taking the place of big lots and not bounce play and create. But I appreciate that question from Spencer Pushard. Deep Throat, take the counterfactual. Let's say he stays in a job he probably was looking to leave anyway. Then people say Jim Ryan is causing UVA to lose funding. He is making himself more important than the university. You see what he's saying? He's saying that he's the biggest stumbling block to the federal money, right? Yeah, that they're saying he's putting himself ahead of the university by not resigning. But Ryan resigning makes him not the poster boy for the anti-Trump
Starting point is 00:31:54 movement. It makes him a whipping boy that Trump is now going to tout on the national and global media circuit for the next week and change. Trump is going to leverage the fact that he got Jim Ryan to resign. It's going to keep Charlottesville and UVA in the news. It saved the Board of Visitors. Goodness gracious, did this save the board of visitors from doing dirty, dirty work? Somewhere the Jefferson council is jumping for glee. Deep Throat says now Jim Ryan leaves. It isn't because he failed or wore out his welcome, but rather he was the victim of Donald Trump. And he put the University of Virginia first by residing to save the federal funding. I see the argument he's making.
Starting point is 00:33:01 Does it make him more hirable by going out? Margie King-Collins says I just got a news alert. This is absolutely unbelievable. Randy O'Neill says, under his watch, fraud, athletes murdered, hospital mismanagement, and that list can grow. The pepper spraying of students. The redacted reports. The anti-Semitism. The escalated cost of attendance. The bloated payroll. loaded payroll? UVA health? I thought at this point at the end of June that he was going to survive. It did seem that way. Like potentially if he just held on eventually the pressure like potentially if he just held on, eventually the pressure would let up. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:34:13 The president of Thomas Jefferson's University has just resigned according to a report broken minutes ago in the New York Times. He has resigned under significant stress and pressure from the Department of Justice, a DOJ effort led by two UVA law graduates. Now the Board of Visitors is left finding a replacement for Jim Ryan. Questions I have. Will a replacement for Jim Ryan.
Starting point is 00:34:45 Questions I have. Will the replacement for Jim Ryan be managed and handled by Glenn Youngkin's appointed Board of Visitors? Will they now bust their ass Glenn Youngkin's Board of Visitors to hire Jim Ryan's replacement before a new governor comes in and can change the makeup of the board. You saw what a governor was able to do with getting Burt Ellis fired ‑‑ with firing Burt Ellis for malfeasance. Basically, governor discretion. And winsome Earl Sears I would not say is favored to win the governor's mansion. It doesn't seem that way.
Starting point is 00:35:26 The GOP across the board looks really weak this election cycle in the commonwealth. So if you have a Democrat favored to win the White House, if you have a Democrat favored to win the governor's mansion, excuse me, and this Democrat favored to win the governor's mansion can basically at her discretion appoint board members, especially with the decision like a BOV hiring a president, does the current BOV push to hire Jim Ryan's replacement because it's a conservative, young and dominated BOV. And who would that president be? How much a role has Ken Cuccinelli played in this? If any. How much a role does he play in the higher? What's Bert Ellis doing right now? What's the only thing that Bert Ellis regrets about this entire decision is that he was not at the table making the decision himself and or determining the future of UVA as president,
Starting point is 00:36:32 UVA as whoever the UVA picks as president. This is a significant day in Charlottesville history. You do not have presidents of universities as esteemed and as acclaimed as the University of Virginia resigning under this kind of duress and pressure. Has it happened? And this also comes after an outpouring of support from the group Wahoos for UVA. Deep Throat says, like Randy O'Neill highlighted, all that legitimate failure gets forgotten now. And he departs UVA not a result of his failures anymore, but because Trump the dictator was overreaching. That's a great point. God, I'm thinking about this right now.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Ginny Hu, I hope it's a sign they are actually going to change things at UVA rather than a feel-good measure so people will stop paying attention to what is really happening. That's from Ginny Hu, who's a UVA alum. So this is what he's saying. He's saying that DOJ pressuring Jim Ryan to resign. Jim Ryan, this story breaks yesterday in the New York Times. Jim Ryan sleeps on it, talks with his family, and less than 24 hours later chooses to resign. He chooses to resign because now he is the scapegoat of Donald Trump overreach.
Starting point is 00:38:20 And all his transgressions and leadership failures will never be remembered either with his legacy after he's left this earth, or while he's searching for a new job as president of another education of higher learning. On his resume, he will say, or he'd be able to point to Trump overreach as opposed to pro-Palestine pepper spraying students, UVA health, white collar racketeering, three murdered football players
Starting point is 00:38:54 despite red flags with the gunmen who murdered the football players and injured two others, escalating costs of tuition, redacted reports times two. Was it Morgan Benninger saga with Ziana Bryant and how that was mismanaged? Fumbled. He does say, deep throat says this as well as other viewers and listeners, that he does highlight that he was going to leave soon anyway. God, what a crazy day. This breaks during the show. Just after our own. Philip Dowell says this in Scottsville, I can't say how happy I am about this. UVA needs to change for the better. Thank you, Trump. Margie King Collins, so I guess athletics
Starting point is 00:39:52 isn't the only department failing, falling to hell and back. God damn, this is crazy. This is crazy. This is a historic day in Charlottesville. Yeah. Does the Board of Visitors hire a new president before the end of the year? I figure they've got to try. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:40:44 This is now breaking. Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is considered the leading contender to replace Jim Ryan. There's a protest planned today at the Rotunda at 3 p.m. Let me understand something. That is going to create a firestorm. This is bananas. Let me understand something. Glenn Yonkin fires Bert Ellis. Glenn Yonkin replaces Bert Ellis with Ken Cuccinelli. Tries to.
Starting point is 00:41:35 The Democrats refuse to approve his appointment. Any of his appointments at multiple schools. Cuccinelli is lingering in Board of Visitors purgatory. And now Cuccinelli is the favorite to be picked by the Board of Visitors, according to media reports, to replace Jim Ryan? You realize that a majority of staff and students at UVA are going to hate Cuccinelli as UVA president? Do we even think that he'll be able to get anything done with the staff and students completely against him?
Starting point is 00:42:44 Deep Throat says this. Albert Graves is watching the program. We have two TV stations, print and radio, watching us right now. Deepthroat says, come on, Cuccinelli, this is just a shock candidate. So when the Board of Visitors does come up with a non-leftist candidate, everyone will be relieved it's not Ken Cuccinelli. This is gamesmanship, he says. That's another good point. What the fuck is going on here? What is going on here? It's nuts.
Starting point is 00:43:19 This town is nuts. Why is there always this nuts, why is this always crazy stuff happening in this town? Do we not have a ton of conversation for your cocktail party? Conan Owen, if it's up to the all-Young and BOV to hire the president, Virginia Democrats are going to do the circular firing squad of blame.
Starting point is 00:43:52 Conan Owen, the media is reporting that Cuccinelli is the favorite to replace Jim Ryan. There's no way that Cuccinelli with his politics would be the guy that the Board of Visitors picks. This guy is blatantly on record as a self-described, a vehement self-described homosexuality opponent. He's prohibited same-sex marriages. He's vehemently opposed to climate change. He's investigated climate scientists as an attorney general, as the attorney general.
Starting point is 00:44:46 I think some Democrats and leftists would want Bert Ellis as president over Ken Cuccinelli. Oh, 100%. Georgia Gilmer says, if I didn't know any better, this would be April Fool's Day, in my opinion. This is like Bizarro World from Seinfeld. Albert Graves says, overreach is doing what you are told when you receive federal funding. No, excuse me. Albert Graves says, overreach is not doing
Starting point is 00:45:24 what you are told when you receive federal funding. No, excuse me. Albert Graves says, overreach is not doing what you were told when you receive federal funding, not to mention how UVA Hospital has robbed the government and Medicaid patients of millions of dollars. Go woke, you go broke. Bye bye, Jim Ryan. Lawsuits are coming for you next. And then Albert Graves says, maybe Ken Cuccinelli will lead a change in the woke university. And he says, bye bye Jim.
Starting point is 00:45:50 Does the board of visitors hire a president before Yonkin is out of office? And Ginny Hu says, oh my God, this is our very own soap opera. This is getting so good. Pop the popcorn. who says, oh my God, this is our very own soap opera. This is getting so good. Pop the popcorn. No doubt. What the hell is going on?
Starting point is 00:46:18 Does Jim Ryan get another job as president? He made another school? Yeah. Does this make him more hirable? Being Trump's whipping boy? What's the difference between being Trump's whipping boy or being the martyr for the anti-Trump movement? I mean, I'm not sure how Trump would continue to treat Ryan as a whipping boy. You don't think Donald Trump is going to utilize the Jim Ryan resignation to toot his own horde saying I caused this, they didn't listen to me, They didn't eradicate DEI. He resigned because of me.
Starting point is 00:47:08 I used my power as president and the leverage I have with the federal funding allocator to change one of the most prestigious and prominent universities in our nation. But what is that worth? To Trump? A lot. What's it worth? To Trump? A lot. What's it worth to anyone else? Trump has made his brand on that. He's made his brand on touting that he can control Elon Musk.
Starting point is 00:47:39 He's made his brand on bullying Jerome Powell. He's made his brand on calling Joe Biden a geriatric with no mental capabilities. And Kamala Harris is nothing more than a teleprompter reader who used to appear in hip hop music videos as a background dancer. He's made his brand questioning the integrity of the Clintons. This is what he does. He's a touter. But what's the touting worth?
Starting point is 00:48:18 New cycle, strengthening his base, ego. Okay. Flex. strengthening his base, ego, flex. Does that stop Ryan from getting another job? What stops Ryan from getting another job is if they... They're afraid that Trump comes after them? That, yes, or they dig into Ryan's time at UVA and look beyond the martyrdom. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Unbelievable. It's now hitting the local media that he's resigned. I'm not surprised. According to the New York Times report, Jim Ryan tendered a letter of resignation to the Board of Visitors yesterday. Wow. Which said Ryan's departure could be effective immediately, but would not happen after August 15th. What does that mean? happen after August 15th.
Starting point is 00:49:45 What does that mean? He would resign now, but if they need him to stay, he would not stay beyond August 15th. This is crazy. This is crazy. And we're going on vacation tomorrow. I know this is like two weeks of content. Deep Throat asked the question, does he get to stay on as a professor at UVA if he wants? Would he want to? Would he want to?
Starting point is 00:50:35 I know he owns a house in Earleysville. Jim does. Yeah, 100%, Conan Owen, 100% the BOV gets to appoint the President. 100%. Absolutely the BOV gets to appoint the president. 100%. Absolutely the BOV gets to appoint the president. That's why a lot of us are wondering if the BOV is going to appoint the president now before a new governor starts. Yeah. Which if you're the Jefferson council, you're going to be pushing the BOV and Yonkin to appoint a president as soon as possible. I'm just reading what I'm finding online. I also don't buy that Cuccinelli is going to be the president of the UVA. It just doesn't make sense that Cuccinelli would be named
Starting point is 00:52:01 president. What do you want that? If he was named president, why would, if president. If he was named president, why would they have put him on the BOV to replace Bert Ellis? Maybe they wanted him at the BOV, but they found a different role for him now that they've had so much pushback. Still I can't imagine Cuccinelli getting anything done at UVA. He's gonna get stonewalled every step he takes. 100% and one of Jim Ryan's biggest strengths in a lot of ways Jim Ryan's Teflon, his bulletproof vest, was his ability to fundraise. He was an
Starting point is 00:52:43 exceptional exceptional exceptional, exceptional fundraiser. And the fundraising he's doing is with one percenters. And one percenters oftentimes, especially one percenters that donate to universities, are extremely liberal. And one percenters that donate to universities at the kind of clip that Jim Ryan was fundraising would be vehemently opposed to donating any money to Cooch. A hundred percent. So maybe the play is what he's saying deep throat that Cooch is a pawn where the actual
Starting point is 00:53:16 pick is going to be conservative, but he's not going to be as radically conservative as Cooch. So anyone that comes in that's not as radically conservative as Cooch, the left is going to be like, thank God it's not Cooch. So anyone that comes in that's not as radically conservative as Cooch, the left is gonna be like, thank God it's not Cooch. They do what Judas says, they wipe their brow and say, okay, let's go. At least it's not Cooch. What the hell is going on here? This is nuts. There's a protest today at the Rotunda at 3 PM. How many of the people protesting will be UVA administrators and professors? And there's not going to be, there's no students.
Starting point is 00:53:57 So the protest today at 3 PM, is that going to be all UVA professors and administrators? Because the students aren't in town. Right. I'm sure there are some in town, but. Thank you, Albert Graves. Follow the story. Friday edition of the I Love Seville show. Next two weeks are going to be a bonanza.
Starting point is 00:54:35 Judah Wickower, Jerry Miller, if you're just tuning into the program, the New York Times is reporting Jim Ryan has resigned. As president of the University of Virginia, ending a term that is checkered with questionable leadership, but without question, propped up by some of the most significant fundraising in University of Virginia history. Jim Ryan, the seventh president at the University of Virginia, no longer on Cars Hill. And that's how we close the show before vacation. Thank you kindly for joining us. Judah Wickauer and Jerry Miller...
