Episode 141. Welcome back to the show, guys. Happy Friday.
hello coming to you live from my couch
it's Jacqueline it's 9 30 p.m let's do a podcast let's hang out on a Friday night I've got a glass
of wine I've got my puppy I'm watching some tv I'm having a good time so this is going to be
just I'm going to preface that I'm going to preface the episode by saying
um I this might be 10 minutes this might be 10 minutes okay uh the goal is one episode a day
for a year okay I have a newborn child with me it's now day three of no sleep and it's all I can
do to to form a sentence right now and on top of that I'm just like honestly I've been I've been
drinking a couple I've this is my second glass of wine I don't know what else to say I'm gonna be
honest with you I'm drinking wine watching tv hanging hanging out with my puppy and it hit me
9 30 p.m. gotta do a podcast so maybe I'll have fun maybe I'll be here for an hour and a half
two hours who the fuck knows but I just want to tell you guys what happened today uh with him I
think I kind of told maybe did I tell did I tell you guys on Instagram I think I did um assuming
you if you listen you follow me I don't know by the way if you're new I'm here seven days a week
hit that subscribe button um yeah this is my audio diary this is where I talk about my life
talk about what I'm trying to do my goals things I need to work on it's like personal therapy
I've been doing it since September so come along the ride hit that subscribe button uh
it's a lot of fun I feel like I don't know I could reflect on how crazy it is that I've done it I
haven't missed a day for 141 days, but Jesus, today's one of those days where I'm like, it's
going to be 10 minutes. Um, so I guess I'll pick up where I left off. Uh, was it last night? So I
had a repeat of the first night as far as, uh, Jimmy, my new golden retriever. If you're new,
I've got a eight week old golden retriever now named Jimmy Dean, little Jimmy. He's sleeping
behind me on the couch um his tummy was upset but I had a repeat of night one which which means he
shit five times um throughout the night with a really bad diarrhea just I know trigger warning
if you don't want to hear about that sorry I should have said that before but that's all I'm
going to talk about as far as um his bodily functions and fluids coming out just know it
happened for the second night in a row and I was more prepared this time like I the first night was
literally a shit show where I it was unexpected I didn't realize that he was gonna do that um
because it was my first night with him right so night two I had all the wipeys ready I had all
the like pads ready to clean them up with um I had like a garbage in my room to put everything in
Uh, cause I'm not, see, I honestly, I honestly think it'd be worse if he, well, who knows
if he would have shit in his crate.
Cause I'm going to crate train him on Monday when I, uh, now the crate is delayed until
Monday.
I thought it was coming today, but crate training is where, uh, you keep them in a confined
space where they can't really, they don't have space to go to the bathroom in one corner
and then sleep in the other corner.
dogs don't eat or shit where they sleep you know so the idea is you keep them in the you keep them
in the crate and then when they start whining and like moving around they need to go to the
bathroom and then that's when you train them to go that's like for the potty training I'm excited
to do this with him when he acts like he needs to go to the bathroom we'll immediately go outside
so he'll associate like I have to pee immediately go outside so anyways I'm going to start that up
after he gets better. Cause he, he was at the vet today. He's got some meds in him right now.
Um, he's got a little puppy tummy problem. So anyways, what was I saying? Um, yeah, I wonder
like if I had him in a crate, if he would have had diarrhea all night like that. Anyways, so night
two, I was a lot more prepared. Um, I slept a lot better with him. He seemed like he slept, uh,
longer um even though we woke up every couple hours to like go to the bathroom so anyways I
woke up I wasn't as tired I kind of slept in with him a little bit uh till like eight which is kind
of late for me I had a lot of stuff to do this morning um so he just like laid across because
all the pooping happened to the middle of the night and then like from 5 a.m till 8 we just
slept hard together and he was my little neck pillow like he sleeps across my neck it's like
a little like I'm on an airplane and he's the perfect size so yeah he just chilled there and
we slept good so I felt like I was well rested when I woke up compared to the first day I woke
up because I didn't sleep at all and uh I still didn't last night okay why am I making this about
my sleep schedule and how little I sleep. Sorry. Um, so what am I trying to say? Um,
I woke up and at a meeting early this morning, kind of early midday, mid morning, uh, did that.
And here's the problem I had with him is when I woke up, he was really lethargic and he wasn't
eating he wasn't drinking he was still having uh bathroom problems I don't want to keep talking
about you know what diarrhea but he was still having issues all morning with that and it was
like on the half hour he was having to go and so it was kind of it was looking bad and there was
blood in it like at some points like I'm just being straight up like he has a virus or something
in his intestines so after my meeting I rushed him into the vet and dropped him off I kind of
gave them all the details and it's common like I've had puppies before like this this happens
you know they get vaccinated like he's got his first rounds of everything but he can still get
parasites worms you know bacteria infections it's easy because he's he's still new to this
little world so whatever I dropped him off they were so amazing I found a vet close to me in
San Diego, like five minutes from me. And I call my mom after, cause she's been on the phone with
me all day. And I told her, I'm like, he is going to have a career of treatment with this facility.
Like the customer service I received at this vet made me speechless. Like when I left, I was just
like, Whoa. And I don't know if it's cause it's they're, they're like animal people. And I feel
like animal people, like people that deal with animals all day might just be amazing and nice.
and just, I don't know. And I was so pleased with their care and like what they told me and how they
talked to me. And, um, it kind of just gave me peace of mind. That's really why I brought him
in because at the end of the day, he could probably ride this out and get better on his own, but
I wanted to, um, like get it, get, I wanted to hear it from a professional what was wrong with
him so I basically picked him up um they they gave me anti-diarrhea gel which he kind of liked
I'm looking at him right now he kind of liked it the taste because it's a little syringe you stick
in his mouth and he licks it so he did okay with that but the um the other medication they gave me
and I, it's been like, he has to have literally a fourth of a pill. Like I cut it up in fourth.
So it's super tiny and he's a smart little dude. I mean, he, I hit it in a tree. I hit it as good
as possible, but he ate the tree and then spit out the pill. Like he's already doing that. And so I'm
like, great. Um, he had like a fourth of the fourth of a pill. So he had some of it and I still have
to give him the rest tonight because anyways so yeah I have some medication and then um now it's
just all about like keeping him hydrated and keeping him like you know calm and and keeping
track of his um eating and everything I mean he kind of ate tonight not really uh I'm just gonna
let him do his thing you can't force a dog like I feel like animals we can learn a lot from animals
I was telling my mom this I feel like a lot of times when people get sick they're like they eat
a bunch of saltine crackers and chicken noodle soup. And I feel like that helps for certain
sicknesses, but I feel like the best thing to do when you're sick is to fast and like,
let your body heal and rest your, and your digestive system takes up something like 60%
of your energy to, um, process all your food. So it, I don't know, like if you're, if you have
a compromised immune system and you're sick, I think it's best to eat as little, eat as little
as possible and hydrate and get your electrolytes. So anyways, he's going to probably fast until
tomorrow morning. Um, I wanted him to eat. So when his medication went in, he would have something
in his tummy, but anyways, so what else happened today? Um, I guess like call my mom for a long
time she's talking to me about like talking to me about when we had puppies and stuff how she
would take care of all this stuff and she's like now you're having to deal with it and I was like
yeah because I had golden retrievers like I've had this is number four Jimmy's number four so
I it's hitting me that my parents did everything in terms of like taking to them taking them to
the vet giving them their little meds like it's I had no clue what was going on because I was
little when we raised him. So, uh, still like pinching myself that I have him. Um, I keep
envisioning the bigger years or like when he's like a big boy and we can go on long runs and
walks and I can go to the park with him. Um, I think that's going to be the sweetest thing is
just like having a pal to like take around town and travel with me. And, um, yeah, it was kind
of a, I was telling my mom too, I was like, it actually happened really fast. The whole process
of me finding him and buying him. Um, I think I said this before on the other episodes about my
dog. Uh, he came up, I found him and then I jumped right on him because I've been looking at other
goldens and there's like, you know, reserve, they're all reserved. They're all, you know,
I can't find any available golden. So when I found him, I had to, had to do it. And I think
it's a great way to start out 2021 like I started the first month of the dog and I'll have him all
year and I kind of think it's a symbolic thing not to be cheesy but you know I got him on the 20th
it was like a new beginning with the U.S. and the new president and then I got a new puppy and I
don't know my mom told me I should name him Scranton Scranton Scranton that's where uh
Joe Biden's from Scranton right PA no is he from Delaware I don't know whatever um when I was at
her office over Christmas Christmas time uh I made a big sailor hat like a like a origami
sailor hat thing what do you call those you know in school when you're in like second grade
you'd make a paper hat okay basically I don't know why the fuck I did this but I'd sit in her office
with a giant paper hat on and then we were like just I think we were probably making fun of
something he did this is fucked up but uh we were talking about Joe Biden and then
in like a fun way guys understand like we here's the thing I respect the fact
okay he is elderly like he's old and it's hard to like seriously uh make fun of him or joke
or do any of that because you have to you write it off as oh well he's older and it's just like
a different rhythm than what we're used to as far as our presidents I mean we had Obama who's
what the youngest and then Trump and then high energy Trump who's like out there and then now
of Biden who's like the polar opposite of both of them so um I just write everything off that's kind
of funny and different as you know it's an age thing it's a I don't know so fucking I was in
her office I don't know why I'm telling this story hi uh I was I wrote Scranton across the hat and
then she like turned around at her desk and saw me back there and I was like fucking around wearing
my Scranton hat. But yeah, we talking about, why was I talking about that? I don't know. So yeah,
I was just on the phone with her. It was my brother's birthday today. It was my little
brother's birthday. He's 25. Dinner, get him anything. I called him though yesterday or he
called me and I was like, what do you want? And he's like, honestly, I don't like, and I get that
like on birthdays I literally want nothing I don't like gifts I don't care about my birthday
it's not a big deal um I don't even like if people don't even like I don't even get mad if
someone forgets it's my birthday or doesn't wish I don't hold it against people I feel like my
birthday is just a day and you know if I'm with people go out to dinner and like call it call it
good but um I've never been like a birthday diva type of person who celebrates it for a month or a
week or I just don't really care that much um I don't know there's something about that though
that's like I think it's like I don't like I like putting on parties for other people
like I love entertaining I love being a hostess I love like like um housewarming parties and
just any dinner party setup or whatever like I love putting that shit on for a group of people
but the last thing I want to do is like be the center of the show or like center of attention
and have everyone over because it's because of me and my birthday like I just don't do well with
that and I don't know what it is what is that what does that mean like I'm uh I don't know
it's not like I'm not happy with I don't know what is that because I obviously I'm gonna I'm
an obvious attention whore look what I do here I'm here seven days a week like all I do online
is I want attention here's a new picture here's a new Instagram story here's a new podcast please
give me attention, validate me. I need attention. I need attention. So why am I not, why am I not
like that about my birthday? I'm just kidding, obviously. I just, you know, wrote off, speaking
of writing off Biden and his age, or giving him a pass because of his age. I feel like I finally
got over the internal battle I had with social media where I felt like I'm this vain narcissistic
look at me person who's like always posting pics of herself and like making all of her content
about who like me and I finally like wrote that off as this is just a way of life now like this
is literally what people do every single person like okay not everyone obviously but people have
phones people have profiles people post what they're up to it's like a normal thing that
enough people do that it's not I'm not like unique or special because I have an Instagram story about
my life or a new picture of myself like that's nothing that's not groundbreaking it's not
something I should be like um I shouldn't feel weird about that I should just embrace it and do
it. Like I shouldn't think about it. Like I used to, or I thought I obviously didn't ever stop
doing it, but I, in the back of my head, I'm like, Oh, people probably think I'm just like
full of myself. And just like this narcissistic, like, I just like the way I look. And I just love
taking selfies and look at me and you know, it's just not even like that. Um, however I do,
I do enjoy the process of taking pictures. I don't know why I've always liked that. It's ever
since I got my uh not to flex in seventh grade I bought myself a macbook and uh the little white
one you know it's so big like when I went home for Christmas I my mom had them out and I put it
next to my new mac and it's crazy how thick they were compared to the new ones now but anyways ever
since I got my macbook in seventh grade I started taking selfies like constantly on photo booth
and I even took my senior picture this is such an insane thing to admit I don't think I've ever
told anyone my senior picture in my yearbook was taken I took it myself on my macbook sideways
like I made it porch like portrait style like vertical and took a selfie and I liked it so
much I said fuck it I'll just make this my senior pic I didn't have them professionally done like I
didn't have you know I didn't go on some like photo shoot in a barn with a fucking or sit on a
hay bale hay bale like everyone else like I or it was always like a swing and you'd be like yeah
next to a truck like an old truck um so anyways speaking of like taking pics pics of myself I
like the I just enjoy it like I don't care I don't think that's weird to admit but I was even saying
this. What was this 10 minute podcast I'm supposed to tell you about my day? I forget where I left
off. Whatever. So honestly, what am I going to do tonight? I feel like this is what I have to do
with him is we, if I can get him tired while he's already sleeping, but he might perk up and we
might play before bed so if I can get him more tired I think he'll sleep hard that's the goal
um but I think tonight will be a lot better than the first two nights uh because of the medication
if it works I think it's going to take honestly it's probably going to take a week for him to get
really solid again but um by the way you know day three right of the puppy day three of me
podcasting about the puppy it's going to be like that for a bit I have nothing else to report on
other than I'm a 24 seven single mom with my baby. Like this is my life. Uh, you know, like,
I don't know. It's just like all I can really tell you guys about. Um, uh, it's going to be
cool though. Like, Oh, what was I going to say? Oh yeah. He's kind of getting tinier. Like,
so I'm gonna be with him 24 7 so I'm gonna be enjoying like every step of his growth and I'll
be able to like it like it's not like I'm in college and then my mom gets a dog and then I
see it and then I come back for I see it at Christmas come back for spring break and he's
so much bigger like I'm gonna see that was a weird example I'm gonna see him 24 7 I'll be
I'm never leaving his side. So I'll always, what am I trying to say? Him growing might seem slower
to me. You know what I mean? So, um, the reason I said it seems like he's shrinking is cause he's
been, uh, he's lost weight cause of his lack of eating and, uh, shitting. So it's just weird how
bony he is right now. And his little tummy, like every time I pick him up, it's like, I can feel
all of his ribs. Puppies lose weight so quick. But here's what hasn't changed since day one is
he, well, today was rough. This morning he was very lethargic and he wasn't really
playing or anything, but he's been in good spirits. He likes to play around. He likes to
chase me, bite me. He's fun. He has good energy and he hasn't stopped drinking water for the most
part so those are the two things that I'm like I feel good about um that's how puppies die from
these issues like the the stuff he's going through is they are dehydrated and then they end up dying
of dehydration I'm constantly well not constantly but this morning I was like pushing his gums like
making sure and like pulling his skin to check if he was dehydrated but he's he's solid he's just
gotta rest a lot yeah he's perfect anyways um that was my day thanks for tuning in episode what
141 141 I'm literally watching a podcast on YouTube tonight for my Friday night with a glass
of wine and my puppy like that's my like okay I like I'll own this about myself like my this is
my perfect night. I'm in on a Friday. I finally have a, I finally have my golden retriever. I
finally have a dog. Uh, I'm watching a funny conversation. I'm watching a podcast on YouTube,
just hanging out with some people. Um, uh, and I'm drinking a little, little vino. That's my,
I don't know. I don't need a lot to make me happy. And, um, I think this puppy though,
the best thing, the biggest change in me so far in three days has been me thinking about him
constantly. And I'm like, prior to like, I'm prioritizing my thoughts are all about Jimmy
first and then me. So I catch myself, which I need to like balance that out eventually. But
right now I'm like hands-on I catch myself going like this morning I'm getting him all ready this
morning like getting things you know cleaned up and getting him fresh fresh water and I'm putting
his food out even though he didn't eat it I'm like getting all of his stuff set out and then
I'm like wait I have yet to brush my teeth I haven't made myself coffee yet I haven't drank
water I'm just like making sure he's good first so that's probably been the weirdest thing is
like constantly thinking about him and making sure he's good. Um, versus like taking care of
myself first, which is, uh, I don't know. He's young. I got to keep him going. And today was
a little scary, but shout out to that, that I went to, I can't think of the name on the top of my
head. Banfield pan. I think it's banned something in San Diego. Um, they're awesome. Like I,
I, like I said, I, I called my mom and I'm like, I'm going to, this place shocked me with their
customer service. I'm going to come back here, like back here. Why am I talking like this?
I'm going to come back there for his entire life. Um, anything else to report on? I literally have
no clue what's going on in the world. I have no concept of time. Like, oh, I know what I was
gonna say I feel like I've been staying up pretty well obviously I've been up all night but um
like last night I think I just sat on the couch with him and let him sleep on me I was like half
asleep half awake until like 12 30 so I feel like it helps if I just kind of like stay up really
late, like past midnight, and then go to bed. I don't know. Versus having a, oh, bubba.
He's hiccuping. You're okay. He's twitching. He was just sleeping. Guys, this is real time.
I'm caring for my child. He was peeping and jumping, hiccuping. Is he having a seizure?
This is what I get worried about. Puppies, when they dream, they, you know, they make noise and
they move. You're okay, bub. I keep calling him, so his name's Jimmy Dean, right? But around the
house, he's Bubba. Little Bubba. Yeah, go back to sleep. You're okay. Yeah, it's weird how you
make a little pet name for them. It just like happens. Oh, now he's on his back. He wants me
there you go it's funny how Bubba just naturally came came out when I'd be like because whenever
when he was really sick like this morning uh I was like it's it's gonna be okay Bubba Bubba Bubba
like you got it and I started crying I got really emotional this morning actually it was rough like
I um I just looked at him I got really emo like I could even do it now just like I love him so
much already and I just just to know that he's not fully healthy because here's what I'll say
it's kind of weird to me maybe I should have noticed this day one um that as a puppy he wasn't
like jumping off the walls like yipping I don't know if puppies bark his age like I don't know
do they like he wasn't making a lot of noise or going crazy like some puppies I've seen so
he's probably had a little bug in his tummy for a few days I think it takes like seven days for
the symptoms to start so that's probably what happened happened and then um I just can't wait
to see him perk up and like be his good old self and uh yeah you're just dreaming and shaking
I thought I was witnessing a seizure that did kind of freak me out for a sec
he's good it's uh probably a little insane of me though to watch like
okay I literally I don't know how long I did this today but before like before I took him the vet
I had to wait for my appointment I had like 30 minutes to wait to drive him in and it was pretty
bad like I needed to get him in and I was literally sitting there watching his uh tummy
rise and fall rise and fall like making sure he's still going like that is one of the things I feel
I find myself constantly doing with him like just checking making sure he's still got a pulse you
know making sure that heart's still strong he's so I wish I could show like share what he looks
like right now just curled up like a little teddy bear I hope he sleeps on my neck that's
really nice when he does that yeah all right I should get going because I'm just talking to him
now um episode 141 thanks for hanging out uh I know I'm kind of tired and just like but
But this is what single motherhood must feel like in real life.
But I can only imagine.
I feel like a baby would be 10x this.
He's just a puppy.
But I don't know.
It might be kind of similar.
It's got to be.
Because for the most part, they sleep.
They sleep, eat, and shit.
And you just have to deal with that.
And, you know, babies shit in diapers.
He shits outside.
So it's a whole new thing.
You got to take him out.
potty training is going to be a whole new whole new world here in the city I'm not used to that
because usually I've been potty training dogs in farmland you know they've got
their outhouse is the fucking field you know it's not like a little sidewalk
you know I have to tell you a story so I have a theory that a guy I'm gonna end up with I don't
know for some reason I just saw him pick up his dog shit and I'm like yep you're it he was walking
around the city and I was I was on a walk like a week ago and uh just like I told you guys the
story about how I finally like walked in this city like I finally took a big walk around it
instead of my usual route and I was like a block behind a dude with a dog um from the back I'm like
yeah you're probably really hot and then you know you could just tell sometimes from the back and
then he like I so I ended up passing him as he literally the timing was I caught up to him because
he was waiting for his dog to shit his dog shit and then he like looked at me I looked at him and
I just like like okay all right taking notes here hope to see you again and then he picked up his
dog shit and then I kept walking and I thought that was funny because if I if I ever come across
so let's just say I end up going on a date with this guy I'll remember that encounter
that's a great start him picking I like my first impression of you was you picking up your dog
shit on the on the sidewalk um so I don't know that's kind of like the is that's is that like a
I don't know if that how to characterize that as far as like is that attractive or kind of awkward
or um I don't think there's anything cute about picking up your dog shit I don't know it's just
like everyone you just have to do it you just do it and dog people all understand it's just part of
like what you do you know so it's not it's not like it's awkward but I don't know that was kind
of funny all right I'm gonna go I'm gonna snuggle with him yeah he's like a little teddy bear right
now and uh I'm gonna try to have a good night's sleep tonight and I hope you do too or whenever
you're listening to this I hope you have a good day uh follow me on Instagram for all the updates
I'm posting them all of all of I'm posting Jimmy all over my story right now uh while he's growing
up so follow me on Instagram subscribe to the podcast and yeah I'll talk to you guys tomorrow
for Saturday's Q&A number what are we on 16 yeah Saturday Q&A number 16 tomorrow
tune back in I'll be here with Jimmy all right love you guys have a good day night whenever
you're listening okay I'm annoyed okay I don't know how to end this how do I end this all right
Bye.
Bye.
