Episode 24, Welcome to the Basketball Podcast.
From the bottom of my heart, this one was inspired by and dedicated to Kobe Bryant.
Hello. Happy Sunday. How are we doing? How's it going? It's Jacqueline. Another day, another
podcast. We're doing this bitch seven days a week and I am still having so much fun. And today we're
going to have a lot of fun because I obviously, yeah, not to be depressing. This was inspired by,
episode 24, Kobe Bryant. It's crazy to even think about. I don't want to get depressed right now,
But I played a lot of basketball in my life and just felt like this would be appropriate, you know, to make an episode all about basketball.
So that's what that's what I'm going to do today. I love telling stories. I think you guys like it when I tell my life stories.
So, yeah, I'm going to go through like my childhood. The first time I remember touching a basketball all the way up until my last time, which was, you know, high school.
And here's the thing. I'm not some like rock star D1 athlete, then WNBA point guard type of chick
who's just like this incredible basketball player. But it was such a huge part of my life. And I
spent so many hours in basketball practice and at basketball camps and playing games and everything.
So I just feel like it'd be fun to talk about it today. And I don't know if any of you out there
have played a lot of basketball or still still do but um I don't know we can just sit here and
reminisce together so anyways I'm gonna go over obviously coffee fact right off the bat and drink
some coffee right now just after I said that I'm just like really wired today it's Sunday morning
I'm like today's the basketball episode I can't wait to reminisce about basketball I was literally
on my high school basketballs um like the website and I was like holy shit I haven't checked this
since I was fucking like a senior in high school it's so weird to like look back um so anyways I'm
really excited I'm like feeling warm and fuzzy so I'm gonna do the coffee fact and we do the 24
hour update um good news I'm not pregnant okay got my period yesterday cut into the chase I know I
feel like I've been super like dramatic all week like I haven't got my period yet and you guys are
probably like hold like you're just like bracing yourselves like Jacqueline you're you're not
getting your, you're probably pregnant. Like, aren't you freaked out? And I'm just letting
you know, that'd be impossible, but I got it. I got it yesterday and I am proud to be a woman
in this, uh, in this, uh, in a man's world. What am I saying? Why did I cut right to that
24 hour update? I didn't even do the fucking coffee fact. Dude, this is what coffee fucking
does to me. I need to hear it. Here's the thing. I need to stop talking about my coffee consumption
and just like, it's getting the point now where I'm thinking about doing like a fruit cleanse or
some bullshit where you like don't drink coffee and you wake up with fruit every morning instead
I don't know it's getting kind of like I think I'm over obviously I'm over consuming it we all
know this I crash the afternoon every day okay so instead of going to like a bullshit like
coffeefact.com website I found or I just asked Google a question I'm like how many coffee shops
are in the U.S. so this is what it kicked back it kicked you it gave me this um Jesus Jacqueline
slow down okay I'm just so excited I love podcasting okay so I asked Google how many
podcast how many coffee shops are in the U.S. and it kicked back 22,842 coffee shops
uh in the U.S. and then it gave me some stats like how much people spend per year
on coffee average $1,100 a year uh that's insane like three dollars a day there's so many stats
here about like coffee shops in the u.s obviously the most is starbucks duncan number two i think
i don't know it's just cool there's this interactive map what website am i on you guys
are like jacqueline get to the basketball stories we don't want this shit but i love doing coffee
facts it's my little thing anyways um thinkum.com thinknum.com interactive maps with all the coffee
shops than the U S which is, it's a, I love infographics, man. I love interactive maps.
I love colorful shit where I'm like, I don't know. It's cool. Oh wait, this is like worldwide. You
can look everywhere in the world. Yeah. We're killing the game here over in the U S I think
we have the most per square mile or whatever. Okay. There's your coffee fact. We have 22,842
coffee shops in the U S next. We're going to do the, uh, moving right along. What did I say
yesterday I was like you know I fucking love a podcast cliche transition like all right switching
gears time for the 24-hour update let's do it all right so got my period we already went over that
you guys are really like involved in I don't know like everything in my life so yeah now you know
and uh I'll be honest like I was suffering a little bit last night I was like I'm feeling
cramps for the first time in my life. Like I never get cramps and I know it was bad because I was
Googling like what to do. I've never had to like do anything for cramps before. I don't know if
it's like related to the fact that it took like, it's like two weeks late or whatever. And I'm
like, and now it's just, I don't know. I hate being a girl sometimes. It's just so frustrating.
um but I did cry the day before I was like looking at something on my phone and I just got I got
teary-eyed and that's a good sign I feel like whenever I cry the next day I'm gonna get my
period so enough talking about this you guys are like shut the fuck up we just want the basketball
stuff uh that's rude I need to be more um I need to have a better I need to talk nicer to myself
um I'm this my stories about my life are important even the TMI gross details you guys want to know
everything so here we are okay so what else happened yesterday I worked out typical this
is not the workout podcast but yeah I worked out yesterday it was great um I didn't hike
I went to tenant I went and saw that movie so that was good um dude so much popcorn too much
popcorn probably I love just like movie theater popcorn come on it just it hits diff it hits diff
as the Gen Z kids would say like the butter machine you know what I mean oh my god it's just
so I'm disgusting like I I'm never more at home as my as my like inner fat ass self than when I'm
sitting in a like a movie theater seat with my big ass thing of popcorn and I get the XL bitch
I don't get like the small bag I get the biggest one and I and I fill it up I get a refill so um
anyways it wasn't I wasn't by myself so that's not as bad as it sounds okay um I'm embarrassed
oh my gosh um oh yeah again stayed up really late my sleep schedule is kind of getting off
right now I'm noticing like it's shifting because I keep staying up later and later and so I'm like
waking up later and I don't like this about myself when this happens because I'm like I start feeling
less productive and more groggy and things start slipping because for a while over the last couple
months I've been waking up like at 6 a.m every day so that's not the case right now it's like
you know nice 9 a.m roll out of bedtime yesterday I was like 10 30 so not proud of that um anyways
another update about my 24 hours is I finally feel like I'm taking amazing care of my hair
I think I mentioned yesterday that it's been breaking off because I've left it up in a bun
pretty much the entire year and it's like always up you know what I mean like 90% of the time my
hair is up in a bun or whatever so I'm finally like oh my gosh I want to take really good care
of my hair because I'll be on camera I'm starting to I'm starting to feel like you know what I have
to take my like, like appearance more seriously now because dude, I'm showing up October 1st on
YouTube every single fucking day of doing this podcast. So I better get with it. So anyways,
I did like a hair mask and my hair like feels really nice and healthy now. So anyways, I feel
like that's, I mean, not much, I don't really have much to update other than that about my 24 hours.
I was just, it was a nice Saturday, you know, saw a movie, worked out. I don't know, stayed up late.
it was great okay so let's uh jump into the basketball stories so one sec
coffee's so fucking beautiful man I just I get like emotional maybe it's because I'm on my period
but like I drink it I'm like it's too good I don't understand um I just am obsessed so
basketball it's gonna we're gonna do this whole I'm gonna basically take you through my life cycle
with like my life. What am I saying? My experience as a basketball player from like the time I first
touched a basketball all the way until my last game in high school. So it was kind of hard to
come up with like, cause I, I, you know, everything just like came out off the top of my head this
morning. I wasn't trying to like go ask friends and family, like, do you remember any stories,
you know, for my basketball days? Can you like bring something up to like help me come up with
something to talk about, but this is what I came up with off the top of my head. It's a lot,
um, like, I remember, so I'm gonna just start you out. Basically, I, I, like, knew really young my
mom played basketball in high school. I don't know why, like, that was just, like, the first time
I remember, like, I guess knowing about basketball, or maybe I saw it in, like, TV shows and stuff,
or like obviously on TV. My parents were watching basketball games on TV, but I remember like a
specific moment when I was sitting, I was probably like, I don't know, like four years old, maybe
like around that age, really young. I remember in my first house, the farmhouse I've mentioned
before with like the barns that didn't have any cows in it that we just lived in. Oh yeah,
an ingrown trampoline. So that house, I remember dribbling a basketball, just like sitting down,
like you know just like a little kid sitting down and like patting the ball really fast just
back and forth and I think my mom or dad like they were showing me how to do it
and I feel like that was the first memory I have like actually touching a basketball and then when
I got older so like when I started going to um school like kindergarten I skipped I didn't go
to preschool by the way new fact I don't think I've said that before I skipped preschool um but
I remember in like kindergarten my mom was trying to teach me like how to dribble and move with the
ball instead of just like I don't know I don't know if my parents were trying to like mold me
into this basketball player from a young age looking back I'm like I think that's the course
they wanted me to like I don't know I never I like I said I'm not some like amazing basketball
player that's like you know what I mean like you know when you watch like the WNBA like I'm not
even close to that. I never was, but I don't know. I feel like they just, they always put balls in
our hands and like, you know, I did everything. And at the time I was also dancing and acting and
doing all those things too. But anyways, I remember I'm trying to keep the basketball
theme here so we could talk about the other hob or the other activities I did, but I'm going to
stick with basketball for this one. Um, there is a turning point though. I will mention my other
activities and when those things broke off anyways. So my mom was like trying to teach me how to
dribble and move I think and so when I was on the playground I remember this like super just
like this moment when I came out of um the lunchroom I used to go to school my private
school is this really long it's so like old when I think about it like looking at the building now
it's like this long brick building one level and there is a lunchroom the cafeteria and I think at
the time like that was the basketball court too anyways I remember like coming out of the lunch
room with my basketball for recess after lunch and like jetting out dribbling and running with
the ball dribbling and that's like the first time I remember like oh my gosh I can do it
because I think for the longest time my mom was trying to get me to dribble and not just be in
one place she's like you can move with the ball so that's like the first time I remember like
feeling like I was flying like dribbling the ball like really really like playing with the basketball
um obviously you like couldn't really shoot it to a normal hoop at that point but um
yeah and then you know before that when I was like really little I think I've seen some pictures
when we were my siblings and I were like toddler age with like a tiny plastic basketball hoop
in our play like in our play area so I think I was playing with like little tiny nerf size balls
even before that but anyways so then like in elementary school obviously playing at recess
with basketballs was a thing for me like we started I think I've mentioned in the past like
how bump playing bump at recess when I was in like I don't know like fourth fifth sixth all
the way through eighth grade was such a big deal like the whole school would play at recess it was
so much fun and obviously like for me it was so I was super competitive about it because I was like
if I can beat the boys you know maybe they'll like me or whatever I don't know and I would do
that like if you ever beat your crush it was like such a big deal and I did that I remember winning
games of bump and I'm like the girl on the playground like the I'm not like one of the
older boys you know what I mean it was like I was playing against the eighth graders and
probably sixth grade beating them I'm just I'm pretty sure like that was happening a couple
times I'm pretty sure you can fact check me if you went to school with me and like say that
Jacqueline you're full of shit you sucked um but let's see what else um fifth grade is like when
that's when my career started man that's when everything fucking popped off at that point
I was doing a lot of like I said acting and dancing I think I did jazz for like a little bit
oh I also did a lot of Scottish Highland dancing where you put a kilt on you do like your little
sword dance patty balls and high cuts I think is what the dance moves were called anyways I like
segued away from that and then pretty much fifth grade when I played basketball or started playing
basketball was when I like branched off from the acting stuff and went more towards just sports
I was also doing swim team I way earlier before that I played soccer anyways basketball I want
to stick to basketball so um I remember that was like the start of in fifth grade is like that's
when the first like that's when you could play basketball at my school and um I remember my
friend Lauren's dad coached us he's really fun and I was always like me and me and Lauren were
like the point guards I think I remember that and obviously like we're just these little fifth
graders. Like we don't really know what we're doing, but that's when you learn about like how
to, you know, do plays and like screen someone. And, um, you know, that was the first time doing
like basketball practice, running lines, learning how to shoot the whole thing. And I remember I
got, I think I went to big five. Yes. I totally remember this. I was, um, I think that's a year
of fifth grade is when I had my first pair of like, what were my shoes in fifth grade? I think
they were like k-swiss or etnies I don't know they were but then I remember I don't know why
I'm telling you that but those are my casual day shoes in fourth grade I had these little red like
mary jane shoes I remember getting these little leather shoes dude you know uniforms and then like
I've said this before but your your shoes were everything that was like your that was your um
that's how you were in like that was your identity or whatever so my basketball shoes though for
practice where and one all black shoes I got at big five I still remember like going there and
like having the person help me pick them out and yeah literally I was wearing all black and one
shoes so fifth grade anyways yeah that was like you know my first experience obviously dribbling
a ball around I think at that point I'm pretty sure we were in one of our second house as a
family and I think that's the year my brother got a basketball hoop like a really nice one like a
normal sized one I think that's yeah Santa that year brought us I got a my sister and I got
mountain bikes I remember they're these red mountain bikes and my brother got a basketball
hoop pretty sure that was a year and um that's when we could like actually practice at home and
like you know really get or form and shit down like practicing free throws and stuff um I also
that year I think I got a basketball it was cool maybe for my birthday but it had a palm on it so
like had two palms to show you like how to position your hands um so I'd like I remember
laying in my bed as a little girl like fifth grade like practicing like flicking my wrist
throwing the ball up to the ceiling I'm at the point now so like I'm like way grown and like I
haven't touched a basketball in so long I used to play around at the rec center at my college but
like it's so weird to like shoot a ball now but I'm kind of I'm considering getting a like a nice
ball just to like play around within my apartment just like shoot just practice like my shot I don't
know why I'm like it's it's fun um obviously yeah I thought it was fun I played for so many fucking
years so yeah fifth grade I was a little you know point guard friend's dad was the coach it was
really fun I remember that's like such a it was such a fun experience traveling to new schools
that I hadn't hadn't been to before and going to their gyms and it felt like it was it was so like
intense and exciting and like oh my gosh like the school's watching us play it and I'm this
little fifth grader like probably oh I think I fouled out for the first time that year too
in fifth grade yeah I'm pretty sure I remember like her dad got really like coach got mad at me
I think that was sixth grade too anyways um let's see so fifth grade let's speed up to sixth grade
kind of same thing um except that's the year I started playing I like I don't know if it was
like I don't know if I was allowed to but I played AU on the seventh grade team when I was in sixth
grade I don't know I think my mom was coaching or no it was not the next year um I'm trying to
think yeah so sixth grade I still played at my private school you know probably same shit my
friend's dad was a coach the fun guy and then I would go this is crazy like this is why I feel
like I wanted to talk about basketball a lot and like do a whole episode about it because I
literally remember going to my private school like my basketball practice and then going to
AAU practice later and I did that for so many years like well not so many like three years
straight I did that where I had like two practices in a night hold on and then sometimes CrossFit
oh man I love reminiscing okay so it's crazy yeah so remember sixth grade my sister she was
officially allowed or like this is so weird like I was like playing on the seventh grade team in
sixth grade my sister this is why I'm saying it I'm pretty sure my sister started playing AU
in seventh grade I like I don't know like I have these weird I don't remember it clearly but
I'm pretty sure like we played together and we were both like the guards on the team and
I don't know I'm like having a hard time remembering that I'm pretty sure she played
a season of AAU AAU was like the you guys might know what it's that is it's like the
how do I explain it it's like the what's the term like um elite league no it's like
the, it's like a league of a bunch of teams. AAU, let me look it up. Like, you know what? Just let
me just do my fucking research. What does AAU stands for? It's like a, uh, amateur athletic
union. Yeah. It's just like a league. It's like more advanced, I guess, than like playing for
your school. If that makes sense. I don't know how to explain it, but anyways, um, I'm pretty
sure my sister played for like a season. I played with her. And then I'm pretty sure if I remember
my mom was the coach as well there's a lot of like blurry lines or blurry memories happening
this morning when I was trying to come up with this but um anyways I so sixth grade I basically
same shit played for my private school played AU with my sister um seventh grade so this is when
shit got this is when shit started popping off for me so seventh grade I played AU and I tried out
I think that's when I officially could try out and play with the girls from like the public middle
schools it was so much fun because I got to meet new girls and we all like our two coaches were
these super fun dads and I don't know it was such a fun time in my life like seventh and eighth grade
AU it was so fun and it was so intense like I remember trying out and just trying so hard I was
like I'm the girl from the private school like I'm I don't know anyone here I want to try to I want
to like prove myself and at that time I was definitely spending a lot of hours outside of
practice like you know at home trying to get better and like again I'm not anything special
like I held my own out there I was you know a great I feel like I'd always had a really nice
shot and I was good at free throws and defense and stuff but um free throws and defense those
are my specialties what am I saying but yeah that's that was a cool time in seventh grade because
I played for my school again private school and then I'd go to AU practice as well
and seventh grade and eighth grade if I recall still trying to like work this out remember it
as I'm telling you guys these stories I'm like trying to remember things I'm pretty sure my mom
coached which was kind of weird when I think about it like she was having us do crossfit workouts
at basketball practice and I remember like doing box jumps on the bleachers and like running
forever and just it was so intense my mom was like a drill sergeant because at the time she
was a CrossFit coach, and she, like, taught kettlebells. She even taught, like, she trained
Navy SEALs out at the base out on Whidbey Island. She, like, trained them at one of the CrossFits
out there, which was cool. She was this badass coach, right? And I remember my friends all loved
her because she was, like, it was a different vibe than what we had before. And anyway, so I
remember, like, I'd go to that practice in seventh grade. I'm just going to blur seventh and eighth
grade together because it's kind of the same thing, if that makes sense. It's, like, my middle
school basketball experience my I'm pretty sure my mom coached both years but um yeah I would go
to basketball at my Catholic school and then I go to AU later like what the fuck I'm seriously like
how did I do that and do homework this is like insane to me to remember but um anyway so I just
like I kind of want to talk about AU and everything like it was so intense like I remember
getting my coaches to just scream at us and like get so pissed off like at games it was so intense
like if you ever got the ball stolen or if you ever just effed up in any way I felt like this
the nervous feeling in my body I cannot even like I don't it's you can't compare it to anything else
like your coach getting mad at you is like it's a whole thing and I'm sure if you've played sports
out there you know what I'm talking about you just feel so like like now you got to prove it to them
that you can do better and it was it was great I mean they kept you in line and they kept you
they pushed you to push you to be better because at the end of the day like they see potential in
you they know you're capable and they want want you to get better and um there's got you know
they're really constructive about their yelling and screaming obviously um but sometimes it was
like towards the other coaches and it was just so intense and I remember like my weekends in middle
school were like dedicated to driving like two hours to go to a school for like a tournament
like we go to a high school like somewhere random in Washington and then there was like
50 teams there and they would occupy like the games would occupy every court that the high
school had and you'd have to like you know you'd have your game times and sometimes I think we
played like two or three games in a day or no we play like three in a weekend like some days I feel
like we had two games it was intense so if you've ever played AAU basketball out there in like
middle school you know what I'm talking about it's so crazy and there's just so much going on
like people just sitting around with their like the team's all sitting in rows just kind of like
waiting around and they've got their fucking Gatorades and their chewy bars just sitting
they're prepping and they've got their big ass duffel bags and it was just like this giant hang
session while you watch other teams play and then the anxiety before games was it's I can't describe
it it's I love that it's like a good feeling like that it's like that good nervousness if you know
what I mean but I don't know I tried to say really early when I started podcasting like the first
few episodes i'm like i feel like an athlete again i feel like i'm getting that same adrenaline rush
before before games when i when i podcast but to be honest i'm sitting here now like this
this isn't like this is nothing compared to that pre-basketball game anxiety oh my god and it just
gets worse especially in fucking high school and you got the whole entire school surrounding you
and then the other schools you know student section screaming at you so we're just getting
warmed up here. Let me drink some coffee. Are we enjoying this part? I don't know. How are you
doing? I said, I do basketball episodes. So here it is. I'm doing my best, but it's a bit all over
the place, but we're, we're getting, we're, we'll get through it. Um, yeah, I remember, um, there
was a specific team when, when we played AU. So I think it was, there's two, Mount Baker. So Mount
Baker and then Stanwood those girls were like hyenas like insanely scrappy and they were like
getting their fingernails out when they are guarding you and it was so intense and I remember
like the feeling of like someone really closely guarding you while you had the ball I'm just it
can it's so fucking intense and you're like doing your best to like keep the ball and not get it
stolen and then as soon this is the thing about girls so like girls basketball is it's just
different you know what I mean like when the girl as soon as you pick the ball up as soon as you
pick the ball up you've got like if they're doing a zone you've got two girls like like arms straight
up like squaring you off like you have no like you can't do anything they're so like all over you
and I don't know like I just remember that being like I can't like then if you had the ball up
above your head or something trying to like pass it to someone they just grab it out and yeah so
anyways I remember a couple teams yeah Mott Baker and Stanwood were like
fucking insane girl like the girls were just crazy and um I feel like our teams like my
basketball teams in AU were always like we were good but we weren't like some of these other teams
that were like especially the girls up up north like these girls from um was it linwood washington
they were like in different breed up there so yeah that was kind of my like middle school
basketball experience um i just remember like practices were so intense but i wasn't dude
if i only knew what i was about to get into in high school like oh you thought au was intense
wait till you fucking play varsity basketball and you're you're the one in charge of the team
as a little point guard like wait till you get there so anyway so that kind of wraps up that
was like fifth grade through eighth grade um I don't know trying to see here if I have any
oh I remember so I tried out obviously for AU and I got to play with the the girls from the
public middle schools and I got to make new friends um that way which is really fun but I
remember like seeing because the boys AU would practice like around the same time as us and I
remember for the first time I was like, cause think about it. I went to a private school. I
was looking at the same boys for like 10 years or like eight years. You know what I mean? Like
we had the same, like my classmates were the same, my entire elementary and middle school
experience. And I remember seeing the middle school boys that were playing basketball for
the first time. I was like, Oh shit. Like these are the cute boys in town. Like this is where
they're at. And they were all playing basketball. So I don't know. It was kind of fun. Like,
you know, you're trying to be like, I don't know. I would like sometimes like get to practice early
or like whatever like kind of hang around while they were playing just like you know
stare at them and shit their shirts off doing their fucking lay-in drills yeah so that was a
fun time just like you know seeing who the boys were who because you know what I knew the next
year I was going to high school with all of them so that was fun dude like I said in past episodes
I feel like my entire like I guess like middle school and high school experience was just like
like being in love with so many cute boys and just like having so many crushes on cute boys
because they're all there's like you're thrown into this pile of people in schools you're
constantly around them like all the time you know what I mean so anyways so that was like yeah
fifth through eighth grade um great time I just love like going to other schools and playing
other teams it was like so fun to ride the bus and yeah so okay let's talk about high school so
here goes here's where shit takes a fucking turn all right so my high school was a 4a 4a sized high
school which I guess was the biggest in the state at the time I think it has to do with how many
students go there my class had like 500 kids in it I think so it was like 2,000 kids in the school
anyways we were part of the Northwest Conference this was Mount Vernon High School by the way and
I'm just gonna say what high school it was in Washington um dude you guys can probably like
look up shit I don't know no you probably can't anymore but I was on the website actually this
morning and I'm like oh my gosh they changed the uniforms again there's like these girls look so
little I can't believe like when you're when you're in high school you feel like the seniors
like when you're a freshman look so big and intimidating and now I'm looking at these
seniors and they look like you're just like little kids it's so weird growing up um so anyways I was
in the uh yeah northwest northwest conference for a size school and anyways I'll cut to the chase so
that my first uh uh semester of school I was doing swim team in the in the winter or excuse
me in the fall and then the winter came when the winter came I tried out for um the high school
basketball team for the first time and um I remember like getting so nervous and like practicing a
little bit you know what I mean like doing my shit beforehand and I'm pretty sure was I playing
AU and fucking freshman year no I don't think I could anymore anyways enough about dude I just
talk so much about AAU and shit like okay enough about those days are gone so now I'm in high
school so I remember like tryouts were so scary we had this giant we call it the field house
we had this giant like field house which was a it was like the it was a section it was like the
I don't know how to explain it like two giant basketball courts outside of the main gym and I
remember like there were so many girls that are trying out it was so intense and I made my freshman
year pretty much all the girls from AU yeah I'm pretty sure all of us made the green team
the green team which is like the there's was there a wait no no we made the freshman wait
I'm trying to remember there was varsity JV freshman and then the green team I think was
like the girls none of the girls that didn't make that I was like C team right it was like not JV
or varsity but I think they called it I think it was just freshman freshman team I don't know how
it works anyways um so yeah my one of my cool teachers my forget what she what her subject she
taught was it was um I don't know she was obsessed with Brett Favre it was kind of weird she had like
a Brett Favre tattoo like his number on her wrist anyways she was really cool total like basketball
coach type of type of lady and um it was fun like my freshman year basketball was fun because I
didn't have any expectations to like you know be on varsity or anything but I remember my mom like
she would say like oh yeah I played when I was a freshman I played varsity and so I was like wow
mom um times are you know it's different world out here there's like these girls are 10 times
like I feel like basketball now versus like when she was in high school is like so different
not to like downplay how good my mom probably was but um anyways I was like okay I'm a freshman I
didn't really care that much that I was you know not on varsity but what am I saying basically all
my AU friends were like on the same, we were all on the same team again, which was super fun. Um,
I think at the very end of my freshman year, they like let me sit on the JV bench. And then I'm
pretty sure a couple of times. Yeah. A couple of times in my freshman year season, they would like
call us up to the main gym during practice to like test us out on the court. And I remember
that was so like, I was so intimidated and scared. I was like, Oh my gosh, like, I don't want to mess
up it's like so grand in the main gym like my school had this giant like it was this wooden
setup like the entire gym was wood like the the bleachers and stuff a lot of schools got
upgraded with those plastic colorful benches with like their school colors my gym was like this
shiny like wood shit everywhere and it just felt so grand when you went up there with the big
lights on and anyways um so yeah a couple of times my freshman year I got to like go up and
practice with the because the JV and varsity practice together I think that was towards the
end of the season and then if I recall I think like literally like the last game of the season
the varsity coach like let a couple of us go sit on the bench for a JV game and I don't know it was
like it it was cool I think one of my good friends she was like she's a really good point guard she
got to play a couple times on JV which was like cool to see so yeah that was like freshman year
um also in high school this is when we started going to basketball camp every summer which was
like dude I I was really trying my best this morning to remember like details from going to
basketball camp each summer but I'm like why can't I remember like exactly what we did am I
it's weird like I can't I mean I have really my memory for a lot of my shit for my childhood is
really good except like I can't like can't come up with basketball summer like summer basketball
camp um memories but I remember so yeah freshman year summer we went to basketball camp I think we
went to Gonzaga uh Gonzaga Gonzaga University and um you know we took the bus there we were there
for like a week there's a bunch of basketball like you go there and I think we like signed up
for different shit like we wanted to go work on like different you know like techniques or I don't
know like there's all these stations everywhere throughout the day you went to and um it was fun
because when we went to Gonzaga we were it was like we were in college and you know I'm a little
freshman like oh you know I'm in a dorm we had like I got to have a dorm roommate and we went
to the cafeteria that's where they fed us and it felt like I was in college so it was really really
fun and we played a bunch of games together as a team like a bunch of bonding games and
yeah so summer basketball camp is always like the highlight of my summer also very intense like you
go there and there's girls from all over the state that are just like insanely good um okay so let's
move on to my sophomore year um I made JV I'm pretty sure yeah I mean of course yeah I made JV
uh which was fun because now that's that's when I could go up to that main gym and practice and
play with the varsity girls and I remember like so I'm a sophomore and I'm like these seniors I'm
pretty sure we had a senior who was like 6'2 and she was like a giant and I was like oh my like
I don't know whenever I practice with the like once I started practicing with varsity I'm like
these girls are just like they're just so big and aggressive and intense and like they're really
good at three pointers and shit and I'm like oh my gosh I gotta like prove myself I just remember
spending so much time like at home practicing my fucking free throws like that's what I would
practice like I just got good at free throws I was like well if you know push comes to shove
when we have two seconds left and I gotta make this game-winning shot I better be fucking good
at it. So I, yeah, I just remember practicing my free throws and I will, I was really good
at free throws. I will say I was great at free throws. So my, yeah, so sophomore year
practice, practicing with varsity, that's when like practice was so much more intense
than ever because I don't know, my freshman year wasn't, I don't know, Ms. Hag wasn't
like that intense with us, but you know, we get punished and stuff and have to run lines
more and um the coat everything was faster and more intense and like compare okay the thing is
if you watch girls basketball in high school like fast is like it looks like it's in slow motion and
i will say that i'll admit that like i'm i'm not trying to be a shit talker about girls basketball
but it's different like come on it's not like you're i don't know it felt fast for us and
whatever. So sophomore year, kind of same shit, different year with playing basketball. I was on
JV. I remember, okay, so this was the year I broke a girl's front teeth. So here's a story time
worth telling. Maybe this is like, I don't know. It's like a good thing to, hold on, let me drink
some coffee. It's kind of a crazy story. So my sophomore year, I'm on JV and we're playing
Marysville High School, which was one of the most scrappy teams in the conference. Like they were,
they were really in fact i think they were 5a i don't think they were in our conference like they
were i think the biggest school in the in the state and i remember during my jv game i i don't
know what happened but i mean i was aggressive like i was always i was a very aggressive player
i do remember like especially on defense like i was i was just in your fucking space like the
whole time and i was like that and i boxed the fuck out of you and there was a shot i was like
boxing people out and just bump like it was so weird boxing girls out like when I think about
like the like the motion of doing that is just so like you're basically just like shoving your ass
in another girl's crotch and you're like putting your legs out really wide and you're like putting
your hands up and it's so like and I don't know when I think about it now like I was just like
constantly like rubbing myself around girls like trying to like create space and I don't know it
was just kind of like it's weird to like look back on I haven't played basketball in a while so
anyways so this Marysville game and knock your girl's teeth out I remember I don't really
recall the exact situation it was probably towards the end of the game but
if I remember there was yes okay I'm pretty sure a girl so the other team they were shooting a
free throw it's probably fourth quarter and they were shooting a free throw and I
in the second shot she missed and I went up to get it with another girl and I think I
ripped the ball down and that girl fell like flat on her face pretty sure that's how it happened
yeah i like we were rebounding the uh the ball after the free throw and she fell flat on her
face and i remember it was like you know the refs were like whistle blown they're like holy shit and
this girl was just like on the ground and then i saw teeth on the fucking court i saw these little
like white chips everywhere i'm like oh fuck and i remember like you know me i'm like i i laugh
through not funny situations and i remember just being like oh what did i just do i mean like it's
one of those things you can't really it's not like it was my I didn't like push her I didn't
do anything crazy it was just like the situation where we're both jumping up high to grab the ball
I rip it and then she loses her footing probably and falls straight down but I felt like I I don't
know I was like contributing to her teeth falling out anyways so that was a weird time I remember
like that was the story everyone loved to fucking tell about me Jacqueline knocked a girl's front
teeth out pretty sure that was my sophomore year so anyways um trying to think what else I can talk
about I don't know I just remember like so many fucking basketball practices and then in my
sophomore year no then let's move to my junior year so JV junior year I cried I didn't make
varsity um I remember there was a new coach that year I think yeah she's like younger she used to
play in college I was so offended when they called me in the room after tryouts my junior year I was
just like what the fuck like I was pissed and I started crying and I remember like I didn't want
to walk out and people like because they would like call you in to the office and tell you what
team you made it was so intense and um yeah I like made JV my junior year I'm like what the
fuck is this because like everyone else made varsity except me and I think their justification
was like Jacqueline we want you to get a lot of playing time we think you're an amazing point
guard we just really want you to like lead the team on jv be the point guard be the star and
then you'll obviously like swing up to varsity and play with them but you'll like your main gig
is fucking jv and i'm like fuck this shit i cried i was so pissed i i that was my fuel that's that
making jv and not varsity was like my oh my god game on like i was just so fucking pissed i remember
being such a try hard at the beginning of that season like oh because we were practicing with
Jay or we were practicing with varsity obviously together and I was like oh okay so we're running
lines well guess who's gonna win every single time me like anything we were doing like at practice
where there was you had to win or like there was yeah like running lines especially or any sort of
like I don't know like I'm trying to think of a drill there's so many fucking drills I love that's
the thing I love about practice is like how many fun drills we did anyways I was such a try hard
because I was like I'll prove it I'll be the I'll be the most in shape person here I'm gonna try the
hardest give it my all and I think they noticed that you know I was also cross-fitting dude I was
okay this is what was bad I think I overdid it because I was cross-fitting after basketball
practice a few times a week because my parents um they were like we we went to like there's a
CrossFit gym kind of close to our high school. Our CrossFit gym, like, we stayed with the same
people, like, for, I don't know, like, 10 years about, and they moved their gym, like, three times,
but anyways, why am I telling you that? They moved closer to the high school, and I remember there
was, like, an MMA. It was, like, half MMA and then half CrossFit inside. It was cool. I would go to
CrossFit after basketball practice, and I remember I was doing fucking, like, Murph or something one
day, I don't even remember, it was a very, it was a workout where I did a lot of pull-ups,
stupid ass decision, and I remember not being able to shoot a basketball, because my fucking arms
were so sore from my CrossFit workout, and I had to explain that to my coach, I'm like, look, coach,
like, I'm trying to get in really good shape, and like, you know, that's what I'm going to CrossFit
for right now, and she's like, I can't, why are you doing both, you're overdoing it, obviously,
I was overdoing it. Um, and she was kind of like intimidating. I don't know how to explain it. Like
she just like, I don't know. She was like super nice, but like there's something about her that
was like, I just think anytime you have like a coach, you're just like, I want to prove it to
you. You know what I mean? So I ended up playing a lot of varsity my junior year. I'm pretty sure
I just ended up on varsity. I think they just like officially brought me over at one point,
if I remember right. But, um, that's also your, I think we got new uniforms, which is cool. I
was number three, it was always, so, oh, yeah, I should tell you guys my numbers, so I was 33
forever, 33 from, like, all the way, like, middle school AAU, I think, all the way to
my junior year, I was number three, and my senior year, I was number three, and it's embarrassing
if I told you why I took that number up, but I'm not going to say it, I don't know why that's even
embarrassing what I was about to say it's not it kind of is a boy I had a crush on was also number
three but he always had a girlfriend it was very like I don't know oh my gosh I just exposed my
crush in high school but it's actually funny because we matched on tinder why am I saying
this if you know who you are this is awkward I'm very I'm like blushing right now for no
fucking reason it's been like a decade since I've even seen you um but I remember like I had a crush
on this guy in high school we had the same basketball number and I fucking like it was
always my whole high school experience I've said this so many times is basically me having crush
on crushes on boys that always had girlfriends they were like always for like a lot like a long
time I remember anyways my um in in college my like freshman year we matched on tinder somehow
and like I confessed like I always had a crush on him I think he said the same I was like what
the fuck you know what I mean I should like dude I think oh my god I want to keep this on the
basketball I want to keep the basketball theme up but why do I feel like I've never so by the way
I don't think I've ever deleted like barely deleted people on tinder ever if I like go to
the very bottom wait oh I think I did wait yeah well obviously he deleted his by now he's like
it's been like 10 years I don't think I have him anymore on this I just love like I love going back
to my tinder matches being like why did I even consider like what the fuck like why did I think
you were hot or whatever. I go to Tinder, honestly, just to, like, browse when I'm bored. I, like,
I don't, I, like, don't even, like, I don't do, I don't use it for anything. Like, I don't actually,
like, meet up with people. Like, I have in the past, but not recently. Like, every now and then
I'll just be, like, oh, I wonder who's around. And then, yeah. I did the love of my life on it
once, which was a really good time. But anyways, that's another story for another day.
well I said the love of my life what who I thought was but you know what I mean it's just
like always like that right you thought wrong bitch okay so fucking what was I just saying oh
my numbers of my jerseys because we got new jerseys in um I think junior and senior year
we had these like nice new ones they were like a lighter weight material they weren't like those
shiny uniforms they were like the modern style you know what I mean and um I always hated so
like I kind of I don't know I was like bigger in high school if that makes sense like I was just
like awkwardly shaped I was always like annoyed by my body because it was like I was like growing
and like I don't know changing and I hated how like my basketball shorts like cut my waist off
and then if I like it would like show like if I had anything hanging over a little bit it was like
always really embarrassing so I literally wore like the tightest spandex underneath my basketball
shorts possible. Like literally Spanx. I remember like constricting my fucking gut as much as
possible. Cause I was just like embarrassed. I was like, I don't want anyone to see like any
kind of like roles and shit coming out. I just, that was always like, I don't know why that was
my insecurity. Like the biggest insecurity in high school, which looking back was like fucking
nothing. Um, so anyways, then, okay. Obviously went to basketball camp that summer. Um, I don't
even know how we did in the conference like the thing is I wish I could remember like how my teams
did and like we never went to state like we got we went to like playoffs or whatever we never like
made it all the way um so it's not like we were this amazing team but we held our own you know
what I mean we held our own with our fucking defense like we were good at defense and
offense was a shit show sometimes so let's talk about varsity on my my senior year um pretty sure
yeah same coach that's when it was like okay Jacqueline you got to carry this fucking team
on your back you're the point guard now you're a senior in high school and it was like me and
two other girls um we all had like different point guard styles I don't even know what mine
was I always felt like I was the best like well you always think you're like better than you
actually are you know what I mean like I felt like I was so confused I'm like why are they being
like looked at as like the good ones and I'm like the best point guards and then I'm sitting here
like dude anyways um not to like they were good too I don't know we were all like different with
our styles of playing um but let's see I feel like my senior year was the most fun because like we
were the oldest and at that point I felt like we were really in our groove as a team like we had
some younger girls that were really good um like one in particular that I think she was like a
freshman and she played up with us which was really cool so I felt like that year was so fun
because like we all hung out together and shit outside of practice and um I haven't even mentioned
like assemblies so as like a basketball player or any if you were on any team in high school
during assemblies each season they would like call your team out you'd have to like go and do a
little like skit or some shit in front of the whole school and I was in leadership class my
junior and senior year yeah and I remember like I feel like we walked out to some like
I don't know like soldier boy shit song or something and like danced I can't remember
honestly it sucks I can't remember but um that was kind of part of being on teams in high school
like being shown off in an assembly this is kind of sad like thinking about it I'm like dude
like it felt like such a big deal at the time and looking back I'm like dude this is stupid
I mean it meant something though when you're younger like you just I don't know
so yeah let's talk about varsity year senior year let's wrap this bitch up um okay I feel like
my senior year was the year I found out well junior year is kind of when it started but like
senior year is when I was like the fucking clown of the group like everyone like if we ever hung
out outside of practice or like even on the bus on the way to games or like in the locker room
like I was starting to I don't know what it was but like I remember we all had like our
our shitty like first edition iPhones at that point and like our like old ass like Verizon
like Voyager phones I don't even know like we had like old ass phones but I remember like
there are so many videos circulating of me at that time like in the locker room me doing shit
or like out I don't even know like on the bus I wish I could uncover some of these videos I'm
sure they're long gone but that's when I was like wait like I am not trying to be funny or I'm not
trying to make a scene or I'm just like fucking around and the girls would just die laughing all
the time around me and I don't know when I reflected on that in the past episodes of like
when I remember like being like I don't know like being seen as a funny person for the I don't know
like because I've it's so many fucking people tell me and I'm just like all right whatever it
just kind of how I am but it was like Jacqueline is the center of fucking attention like I was
decent as a point guard on the team like I could keep talking about basketball I'm just trying to
talk about like how I was as a I don't know it's like a teammate or like my like vibe senior year
but I don't know it was such a like a it's like weird to look back on the videos they took of me
and like all the weird shit I would do and this also happened like when I really think about it
this was going on in middle school too with the girls from my private school like we would just
do crazy funny shit and I remember like being the ring ring ring leader of all that dude why am I
getting dry mouth this is disgusting um dude coffee I just drank water why did I reach for that I want
coffee dude just get me a fucking IV this shit's so good um so yeah senior year was so fun we had
a senior sleepover at my friend Carly's house and she had like a really nice house I remember like
going to I was like damn this is a nice house um that was always fun like going to one of your
friends houses for the first time and you're like holy shit this is possible like this is what nice
houses look like like my family we grew up in a very like we grew up in an older we always had
like older homes they were nice but they were like it was like going to a new house like with
all the modern new shit because we never I never lived in a house like that does that make sense
okay mom I don't want to shit on our houses they were always nice if you're listening like we
always had really nice houses but they weren't like going off to like the big new development
area in town anyways so Carly's house we had a senior sleepover oh my god okay this is a this
is a story story we're sharing so I did my best this morning I was like I wrote some bullet points
here of what went down on this sleepover it was a thing like I feel like every year the seniors
had a sleep sleepover together like all the girls would um on the team would get together and this
it was a crazy fucking night uh it ended up involving the police or the police got involved
um if I recall we all show up to Carly's house and this is like probably in the afternoon like
after school or I don't know it's like a weekend right and then we go to her house and then we
decided oh we're gonna go start this night off we're gonna go to this insane asylum which is
this abandoned, it's called like Northwest hospital. I believe my cousin just went there
and took a bunch of pictures. Actually. I'm like, why were you there? It's like this weird
farm slash insane asylum with like the bed still in it and shit. Like, I don't even know. I
actually, so I was the one, I was the one like, cause I don't like getting scared. I don't like
sketchy situations. And, um, I was like, Oh, I'm sitting in the car and I was so freaked out. So
I was a chicken the whole time, and let me look it up on Google, Northwest Hospital,
in, like, asylum, I don't know, so, yeah, that's how the night started, we all went there,
or Northern State Hospital, so it was a mental hospital that began in the 70s,
and, yeah, anyways, this is up in, like, Cedar Woolly, Washington, up in that area, I believe,
anyways wow this is like you have to kind of be from there to understand what I'm talking about
so the night started at this insane asylum and I remember all the girls like they all went with
like we had flashlights it was dark out it was like cold you know this is in the winter time
during basketball season and we all like drove in like we all like packed in different cars and
I think there was like probably like I don't know we there was a lot of seniors like 13 of us
probably and oh my gosh i even think we like smuggled in one of the younger girls to the
sleepover like nobody knew that she was there because it was technically for seniors but anyway
she was cool um so we started there and then we went to fucking walmart i believe i'm trying to
recall and we got spray paint because in there's this uh our rival city burlington the tigers so
we were the Bulldogs, our, the city closest to us that we were, like, our biggest rivals were the
fucking Tigers, and Burlington Edison Tigers, okay, if you know who I'm, what I'm talking about,
this is so weird, I'm, like, reminiscing right now, and I don't know, you're probably from
my area, but, um, my area, my hood, um, but there is a big giant bee, so there's a bee on this hill
overlooking Burlington that was in white, I believe, and, um, this is, like, a thing people
used to do all the time like back in my mom's day you know what I mean and I feel like my mom
instigated this she's like look you guys your girls have to do this this is like what you do
um like in this yeah so if you might you might see where this is going so we uh went to Walmart
and got a bunch of I think it was like green yeah like green and white paint and we drove up I think
like all of us all 13 of us packed in my friend Carly's car and um we drove to the top of Burlington
of this hill in Burlington and it was really residential it wasn't like you to access the
side of the hill with a b on it because the reason why this is a big deal is this like this is like
us being rebels you know what I mean I'm like fucking how old was I at that time 17 no I was
six yeah I was 17 so oh my gosh like I'm trying to think of like what 17 year olds do now like
they would never do this shit they would be like they would I don't know do some like Instagram
they would like expose the rival team and like do some shit on Instagram probably
anyways um so this hill overlooks the whole city so when people wake up in the morning they can see
the giant M over the B if you like did it right you know what I mean you try to like graffiti over
it so that night we're uh piled in our car we drive up the hill and it's kind of awkward because
there's houses around and we didn't really know how to access the B and I think what ended up
happening is there was like a, oh, I stayed in the car. I always, I was the biggest chicken of
the night. I did not fucking do any, I was too nervous to do anything that night. And I was like,
I don't know. I was just like, you guys do it. And I, that doesn't sound like me now. I'd be
like the fucking ringleader. You know what I mean? I'd be the one out there with the spray cans and
shit. And, um, cause back in the day, like I gave a fuck a little more about like authority and law
and like following the rules like I was so like scared to like break rules and shit and like
do illegal things and you know what I mean like I was just like trying to yeah it's probably because
I was yeah just like my parents were like strict and went to a fucking private school and anyway
okay so they're out on the hill somehow there's a little trail or something like chain link fence
I think they had to jump over they're on the hill they're doing this and um we've got like the car
parked pretty sure we had like fucking lights on or something we're just like in the neighborhood
and this is where it gets scary like all of a sudden okay there you know what I feel like we
backed up next to like a cell tower on the top of this hill as they were spray painting the bee
and um I remember like hiding I actually did get outside of the carpet I was like hiding off to
the side or something just kind of like watching them do it and all of a sudden we see like lights
like blue and red right we're like oh fuck so everyone sprints into Carly's car and I don't
even remember like the gist of it I feel like we were like drive away drive away you know like
let's get out of here because the cops are fucking here and uh they I don't know it was kind of like
I don't know if they knew what they probably knew what we were doing but they uh it was so funny
because my was who who was in the back just freaking out she's like we're going to jail
we're going to jail we're going to jail she's like I have a 4.0 I'm going to fucking um Harvard
or whatever she's like I'm going where did she go she's like she's like the valedictorian of
her school she's like I can't go to jail I'm like the top of her class I don't know she's like
crying about something like that so scared like actually crying tears and I just had this like
it's I don't know I had like this butterfly in my stomach type of feeling like oh my gosh the
cop's gonna like what's the worst that's gonna happen like we're all in this together there's
13 of us were like I don't know what I don't know I wasn't that nervous I'm like shit like
the worst shit happens like all the time this is nothing and um Carly's in the car she's like in
the driver's seat I think I was in the passenger seat cop um oh and they're hiding all the girls
in the back were like hiding all the spray cans and shit and um I didn't even know how it went
but he like hey what you doing tonight or you can't be up here some bullshit like that like
I think we ended up just driving away like off the hook like it's fine um because they didn't
really do much damage I feel like they barely drew anything to like yeah I'm sure one of the
neighbors around the area like called and said like there's some people trespassing
behind her house or some shit a bunch of girls like being loud are you guys even I feel like
I'm just running my mouth and telling the story and it's like this has to do with basketball
because this was like our senior night I guess I don't know so that's kind of how the night went
went to the insane asylum we went to the fucking we went to walmart then we went to
the hill and then after that i'm trying to remember
for some reason was that did were we like oh well that didn't work so let's go burn
something in some grass instead no we didn't do that i think we ended up going back to your house
we stayed up all night we played like 10 fingers you know what i mean everyone's like have you ever
had sex before and then like put a finger down or like have you ever done this with a boy before
put a finger down and um I always won that game uh it was great you know just not being able to
relate to my friends who are all sexually active at the time so that was cool um anyways so we just
like hung out at our house I remember like staying up really late the next morning like just I don't
know like having a great Saturday in fact I think we might have had a game the next day anyways it
was a good time so I feel like that was the highlight of my senior year season hanging out
with all the girls at that time I remember I had bangs I every fall in winter I would dye my hair
really dark and I had like bangs straight across kind of like Anne Hathaway style if that makes
sense so yeah I'm trying to like think of anything else I could pepper in about basketball I mean
one of the highlights about playing in high school is we'd go down to UW University of
Washington and we'd watch the boys or girls basketball games. Like we'd get tickets as a team
and like we'd all go down there and, um, it was super fun having like a little field trip as a
team down there. Um, I don't know. It was so cool. Like just being around, you know, when I, when I
think about it, here's me just like having some, I don't know, just like some feels about basketball.
It was such a huge part of my life and it really like, how do I encapsulate this or how do I sum
this up I feel like it was really good for me and it really helped me like learn what's like how to
be a good teammate and you know what it's like to perform under pressure and having the anxiety
before a game like all those feelings of like pressure and performance the combination of that
like I don't know it was good for me I think if I didn't play sports and I never knew what that
felt like I don't know how my life would I don't know how I would have turned out I guess or like
I wouldn't I maybe be more weak-minded maybe a little bit or I don't know and I think that is
also good just to get your energy out because when you're young you're just like riled up all the
time and when you exhaust yourself at practice it was it's like good for you obviously like there's
nothing like getting like you know getting yelled at at practice or like messing up in practice
then have your coach like making you run lines the worst drill I remember this so this is like
side story I can tell the worst drill ever was like we had so it wasn't like the it was yeah
one of the worst everyone had to shoot a free throw and make two in a row before we could stop
running everyone on the team varsity and jv so we'd start running laps around the gym someone
would go up to the free throw line and shoot they had to make two in a row then the next person would
and then once every single person made two in a row we stopped running and I feel like that shit
went on for like a full full fucking hour which looking back I'm like look it's like going on a
jog it wasn't that big of a deal but I remember how much of a like it felt like fucking hell
um but I'll I'm proud of myself like when I was pissed off for making JV I was like look I'm
gonna win every set of lines and I remember there's me and my friend I think her name yeah
Darian yeah she um hi if you're listening you're probably not um but she was really fast I remember
like us two were always like in the front there's a couple other girls that were fast I don't know
you know the thing is about running lines in practice it's just like some people just don't
try that hard and then if you try hard you'll win every time like if you actually like push yourself
I just remember getting really good at like pivoting and like going back I don't know
sometimes I still run lines at the gym like I'll go into the side room where there's like
I guess it's like the room where people do like dance class and shit like Zumba class
there's like a wood floor and mirrors and shit and I'll I'll do lines in there sometimes like
I'll just do my little like you know I'll go how does it start you go like free throw line
baseline half court baseline other free throw line baseline full court baseline damn I remember
okay I'm trying to think of drills that were just like so intense I don't know any like like defense
drills. Damn. I just, man, basketball. What a time. Did it, did you guys play basketball? Was
it like a huge part of your life? I mean, I literally, when I think about it, I just talked
about like fifth grade all the way up to high school. And I knew I wasn't going to play in
college. I didn't even want to. It was just like, I was like good enough to like, like hold my own
on my varsity team in high school. And like, I wasn't, I always knew like I wasn't a college
level athlete at basketball um I think if I stuck to swimming I probably could be like if I um
stayed with that and like really tried on swim team I probably could have been really good
I was really good like my freshman year I made state swimming which I thought was so cool I think
I was just on like a relay though I think I closed it down too I was like the last person to swim I
was the fucking Michael Phelps the group closing the show it was a good it was a good time I was
fast. Like I was a sprinter when I swam. I just love talking myself up. Um, what was I going to
say? Oh, I mentioned earlier that before I played basketball as a kid, I was doing a lot of like
plays and artsy fartsy shit. And I, I was more involved in acting and I guess like dance and
that kind of stuff. But basketball, like once fifth grade hit, it kind of like all, well,
I kept doing plays until like, I think it was in eighth grade still. I did my last one
maybe later than that. I didn't, I was in high school. I was in acting in high school. Um,
but anyways, I, I completely like stopped all my artsy fartsy stuff. Once I started playing
basketball, like stripped it away. I was like just dedicated to sports, played like every sport,
but how was this episode I knocked off my uh episode 24 episode basketball episode
it's cool you know when I think about it it's kind of nice like I just told my entire basketball
story and this is in a little package I can always go back to him like sit and reminisce you know
what I mean you guys love it when I reminisce you love it when I talk about the past because I feel
like it's I don't know it's like we all have a childhood we all have a high school like we all
remember our high school days and stuff and I don't know it's like good to reflect on it and
be grateful for it I mean it made me who I am and it's fun to it's like fun to go back like when I
was on my high school website today I even got on their fucking lunch menu list thing and I'm like
they're still eating the same bean and cheese burritos with queso dead pepperoni pizza what's
this one sandwich turkey and cheese wrap like it's like the same fucking menu we had
ew they're chocolate milk fat free one percent all the options here they got fucking
like friday hamburger and fries ew i don't know it was fun to like go on my high school website
and i was like whoa i haven't been here since literally high school and then i'm looking at
pictures because they have a section here you can like look at pictures of kids and i'm like they
look so little and i looked at the winter sports like the girls basketball team and i don't
recognize anyone I recognize any coaches I like am so out of touch with my hometown high school
and everything but I'll be honest like okay let me drink some some coffee for a second this morning
when I was on the high school website I'm like I just felt so warm and fuzzy and I'm like I don't
think I could I'm not like planning on going back and being a high school teacher or whatever like
but there's something to be said about like that was my like it's my home you know what I mean like
when I think of my when I think of Mount Vernon when I think of my high school when I think of
like my childhood and everything about it like that's what I know so well through and through
like those buildings the people in town like if that makes sense and part of moving to a new city
and like being in your 20s and like this whole shit show I'm trying to like put together my
shit show of a life I'm trying to piece together right now like it's just different it doesn't feel
like you're connected to all those things that you grew up with anymore because you're so far
away from it but I'm sure like I think I have friends that are still like no I do from high
school that are like literally like teaching at the school coaching at the school like they're
still involved and I think that's cool I think that's awesome like you know they kind of think
it's that's home that's home for them and they stuck around and I didn't do that and I know I'm
sure a lot of you out there can relate a lot of us you know we pack up and move away and it changes
I don't know just changes the course of your your life and I don't know sometimes I sound sad when
I talk about it but I don't know I'm happy because it's kind of like okay that was a chapter I'm
grateful for it it made me who I am but it's a new you know dude I'm in a I'm in a new place and
I'm podcasting every day now and I fucking love it this is a great great episode um I'm probably
going to end it now trying to go over all my notes notes I wrote here so it looks like it
started out with me in my kitchen dribbling in one place a little ball all the way to my senior
year my last game you know I didn't really talk about my performance as a basketball player but
like I feel like my strong suits like I mentioned were like I was I feel like good at defense like
I knew okay if I sucked if I like lost the ball or if I I don't know took a shitty shot like I
could prove myself and I could like redeem myself on defense you know what I mean so I feel like
that was my strong suit like I was good at defense I was fast like on the court I was fast I guess
I don't know did I feel like I could have talked more about like a game that I played
I just remember like we kind of sucked when I think about the conference like we were like
so many other other so many of the other teams are so intense when they played compared to us
like sometimes we were like I don't know it was like a train wreck and to be honest so
I'll be honest like it was I think the worst thing ever was like senior year home game you've
got the entire school in there all the parents the other team and other people and just like
fucking up in front of everyone that was good for me you know what I mean like that was good
for me but it sucked at the time it was just like oh fuck you know what I mean like oh oh you know
what I think the worst part about that was I think this is what I was gonna say this is why it's kind
of like kind of embarrassing to admit but when the guys from the like when all the like other
basketball guys were watching from like the boys teams they're like watching our games and like I
just was so embarrassed for myself in front of the boys like that's why I was embarrassed when I
really think about it I didn't care if I fucked up in front of my friends like I didn't care if
I fucked up in front of parents I was just concerned with what the boys thought of me I was
like dude I just look like an idiot doing this like shooting that air ball and I'm trying to
ask this boy to tolo or whatever in the springtime and he's probably gonna you know what I mean like
I would just be like concerned with them watching me and I don't know there's always okay this is
the thing too I love talking about boys it's like my favorite thing I love talking about me
like having crushes and whatnot but there was always so every high school that we would go to
there's like I remember Anacortes high school had like the hottest point guard and I remember oh my
gosh just speaking of this is episode 24 dedicated to Kobe obviously but I remember being like we're
the only literally I remember thinking like him and I were the only people in the fucking
conference with these Kobe shoes on like I remember that not a lot of people had them I mean
yes a lot of people had them but I was just like paying attention the fact that us two had them I
was like I wore Kobe's like all of high school like I think they came out my sophomore wait when
did he make his first pair I think it was like 2009 yeah I got Kobe's custom off of uh nike.com
I remember we had to have black and white shoes and I like customized them and made them all like
cool and I had like this like holographic material put on them and shit I think they were like
they're not even like when I think of like how expensive shoes were back then compared to now
it's like not that much I think they were like 150 I feel like now they'd be like way more than
that anyways I uh had Kobe's in this there's always like cute point guards and like cute
basketball players at other schools I always was like dang I wish I went to this school
and then I remember like stalking like the most you could do back in the day because I didn't
have Instagram really at that time I think Instagram happened when I was in college like
freshman year of college 2012 ish um I remember like stalking Facebook and like finding I would
go and like look them up from the roster like purposely get uh like I would make sure I kept
the brochure whatever the fuck it's called like the game brochure thing with both teams and then
anyways I would like stalk them on Facebook and I'd be like oh you're cute so yeah I think it's
worth mentioning yeah I wore like my favorite shoes were Kobe's and I sold them I'm so pissed
I sold them I sold them like a couple years ago before I moved to San Diego
so someone out there they've got them they've got my pair of high school basketball shoes and
oh man it's weird it's like so weird to think about just like reflecting on Kobe and like
here's the thing I didn't really mention him at all in this podcast or I didn't really mention
like who I looked up to as a basketball player when I was younger but he was fucking up there
you know what I mean like he was one of them I know I was like obsessed there's a lot of players
I was obsessed with like I was obsessed with fucking Dwayne Wade forever because he was number
three and he played for the Heat I was like yay Dwayne Wade we got the same number and you got
some great biceps on you. I love, I was, I was in love with Dwayne Wade. Who else was I? Oh,
Isaiah Thomas. Is that who it was? Was I obsessed with him? Um, I don't know. I didn't even mention
this. So my brother, he's a couple of years younger than me. We had an, he like got his
first Xbox one year. Right. And I, I remember this is 2005 NBA live to that or no, was it NBA
alive 2005 was he playing on live back then i remember we had like it was like ea sports it's
in the game like the intro thing to all the like sport games he had for his xbox so i don't know i
just remember playing that and then like the courts like sometimes you could play like you'd
play in nba um you'd play in like the stadiums but then also you go to like the streets and play on
like a court in the city which was cool in the game do i think what other basketball games i had
on the xbox like he always got the newest ones all the nba yeah the nba live games is that what
they're called i don't know i'm just still reminiscing like what other basketball shit
could i talk about oh um going i went to i saw the did i see the globetrotters one time yeah
i saw them i didn't really go to a lot of like oh we had the sonics and then they moved so in
Seattle like I went to some Sonics games I think most of like the like not I mean it wasn't
professional as college but I went to a lot of University of Washington basketball games
um like my family would go sometimes then obviously with my teammates we would go I watched
a lot of basketball on uh I loved watching like following March Madness all through high school
I was always trying to like beat the boys as fucking brackets and like do better than them
and I remember one of the guys I had a crush on was like always he was like so good at it I was
just like what the fuck and then one of like the really older boys I think this was like my freshman
year I think we were in the same like art class maybe I think he was in the same art class
is this the one is this year with North Carolina one I don't know I feel like he was obsessed
North Carolina I was like it's my favorite team too and like I was like oh you're hot and I'm
just like trying to be like you it's always like if you like like the same team that
the boy you liked liked if that makes sense i don't know if like you knew stats if you knew
players you could talk about it the shit i would do for the to try to get the boys to impress me
is just like out of control and now like my life is so the opposite like i i literally at this point
literally the amount of headspace and like effort i put in trying to attract men is like
nothing I don't my efforts in like the shit I do in my life has nothing to do with that
if you're if I'm like trying it's like not authentic if I'm just like doing whatever
and then someone happens to like it like me talking on the podcast every day or just like me
I don't know screwing around on my Instagram stories like just doing random shit like that's
me and I'm in the past I feel like a lot of the shit I did was like oh I'm hoping that by making
myself look nice and like doing this thing a guy's gonna like me and then that's how I get my
validation you know it's all about learning and growing so I need to wrap this podcast up you
know what maybe like I could have done a better job um I feel like I am somewhat of a train wreck
when I tell stories because I just spit like whatever memories I have off the top of my head
out is is like it's just rusty because I haven't really like thought about it before other than
today but I don't know basketball episode is complete um it's weird I'm like dude I'm filling
this notebook up man episode 25 tomorrow episode 25 Monday we're gonna start off the week with
some fucking Monday motivation Jacqueline and then I know I'm gonna start out with like Monday
motivation Jacqueline podcast seven days a week that's your motivation so it's so cool I love
podcasting. I don't feel like I squeezed everything out today. How did we like that basketball story
time? I keep asking because I'm nervous. I'm like, oh, I just loved when I really think about it. I
mean, life is so good. And I just love, I love looking back and like thinking, wow, what a good
time. Just those hours I spent in a gym playing basketball. And like the hours I spent like
trying hard after practice being like I heard that Michael Jordan would stay after practice
or before practice or like I heard about players that would like put in extra hours outside of
their practices and I'm like I want to be like that so there's some phases I had where I'd be
like trying to impress the coach and stay after practice you know what I mean like hey coach you
want to rebound for me or whatever and I'd like do a bunch of shoot a bunch of threes for 30 minutes
I don't know dude there's nothing better than shooting a three-point shot in high school during
an intense game and like making it front of the whole school I fucking live for that shit
I guess that's the same feeling of like as that I get from posting a story that says here's my
latest podcast it's like shot that three and fucking made it I posted a new one it's kind of
the same I'm trying to like my I've said this so many times I'm just trying to like emulate or like
trying to like create something here where every day feels like that like that I'm so like so proud
of myself I just made that shot or oh I'm so proud of myself to just post another podcast you know I
mean I don't know it's good to be proud of yourself it's good to be like working towards something
getting better um it's gonna take me I know it's gonna take me probably a good solid I don't know
like, three years to get really good at this, meaning, like, I don't know, I just, like, don't
ramble and, like, say I don't know every two seconds. I should probably listen to the episodes,
though, to, like, practice or, like, come up or, like, or, like, or, like, I don't know, just
find things that I could improve or whatever, like, listen to myself and learn what I could
improve but dude it's just like I said yesterday I just want to put out content as if we're hanging
out so I'm not trying to overthink this I'm just talking and posting man one take fuck it we're
gonna have a video podcast this Thursday can't wait October 1st you can go over to my YouTube
channel and subscribe watch the uh the latest content from the quarantine my quarantine vlogs
I tried hard to make can catch up on those and then oh my gosh I haven't even mentioned so if
you want to support the podcast you can go over to patreon.com slash tjms to support the show
we currently have one patron and he's going to get his big fat shout out after this after the
podcast ends I do my shout outs it's a lot of fun um I can't wait to have like oh and I I will be
posting so if you want to see some behind the scenes Jacqueline playing basketball content
today I'm releasing photos of me playing basketball so if you want to see those go
over to patreon to see those um it's kind of funny to look at pictures of myself in high school like
holy shit oh my god so yeah I'm posting those today which will be fun I I think um if I can
if I can find some videos of me playing basketball I'm gonna post those too so anyways um let me
check my phone to see some shit on my instagram if I can um add anything more to today's podcast
some talking points my family group text is lit up right now we got my brother on a walk
we're on a hike with his girlfriend it looks like they have a cute dog mom sent a picture
of the backyard dude this microphone what the fuck i'm loving the low quality uh microphone
i feel like it's it i don't know it's just like it's it's just it's raw and uncut and natural
man it's not like i i don't know what am i saying if the project if the production quality was too
nice. I would feel like, I don't know, too much pressure, I guess. Okay. I'm going to look at my
sister's story. Oh, she's coloring with my cousin. So cute. I'm going to say so cute.
And I miss her so much. Um, just looking on Instagram DMs and see what I got here. My mom.
Yummo. I posted my coffee this morning, of course. Got an OG excited for today's episode,
like in his reply do you guys like when i walk through instagram i don't know dm requests
one of the girls i follow got a new car that's cool she got an um what's this car called
i don't know it's like a nissan but it's not
i don't know i always like it when people like she wrote here that she's like been wanting this
forever and then she finally got it i think that's awesome let's scroll let's just scroll
and talk about what I'm seeing Emma Chamberlain posted a new picture with her coffee it looks
like she's got oh the new Chamberlain coffee is out now I'm so fucking proud of it I hope you
love it oh my gosh that's exciting for her Chamberlain coffee see I love it all these
I follow a lot of girls that are doing big things what's this it's a cute new um the really cute
new branding it's so her the colors and everything she loves her dark green she loves her dark green
got summer ray new picks dude she's goddess next pick let's see kim k jumping in some water wait
is that yeah next pick um i follow by the way a lot of hashtags on instagram do you guys do that
i i love it because then every time there's something posted that's related to that hash
or that someone hashtags that with what am I fucking saying shows up I don't know um
another video Tim Dillon posted something here I don't know he's funny funny
did you guys watch this is the home edit the home edit Instagram I know I've said a lot of times
that like I get annoyed by how like pristine and aesthetic and organized everything fucking is now
and it's like I can't even look at my pantry sometimes because I'm like I don't have those
cute little jars with labels on them for all my shit like you know how people um they'll like
take out their they'll dump the cereal out of the box into a nice little container and then
they'll label it then they'll have like all matching containers in their kitchen so I've
shit on that a lot because I'm like look it's just so I'm like great now I have to do that
for my because sometimes it's like if you see something on Instagram enough like if you see
enough pantries on fucking Instagram enough you start going oh that's how it should be done like
that's the way people are doing it and so then you look at yours around like fuck so anyways
speaking of the home edit I do follow it for um because I like interior design I like organization
I can't fully shit on it I just get annoyed sometimes I'm like why does everything have
to be so fucking perfect on here but I watch their Netflix um they have a series going on
on Netflix, the home edit does where it's basically these two women that do home organization for
celebrities. And I don't know people that pay them a lot of money to come to their house and
organize it or whatever, but it's really, it's really interesting how they, um, it'd be a fun
job. Like when I think about it, going to people's houses, I would, I would personally enjoy it
because I love organizing shit, but I don't know. It's like, they're extremists about it. I mean,
they go, it's, it's cool. They go really hard with people's closets and their pantries and
their garages and if you need organization ideas go to the home edit the home edit instagram
okay let's keep scrolling um we got fucking someone in italy that's beautiful dude europe
just does it better man i just like every time i follow a lot of europeans and i'm like what are
we doing here what are we fucking doing here um something political i don't want to read that
I'm just ending the podcast on Instagram scroll for you guys just trying to narrate my experience
I never that's the thing do you guys notice like if you do well do you scroll on your feed or do
you just watch stories like I I'll do like a couple scrolls and then I'll just like watch a
couple stories and then bounce off um let's go to my discover page dude I am hating how reels
like takes up my discover page I don't like reels I just it's annoying um oh my gosh literally if I
even look at a picture of Harry Styles once my entire discover page becomes Harry Styles
it looks like he just shot a new music music video in Italy Harry Styles um like that's what
my algorithm or whatever does if I look at a picture of someone like my entire discover page
will just be them for the next day which I'm not mad at he's uh not not hard to look at so that's
cool um anyways back to the scrolling yeah I like don't really scroll like I feel like before
stories like all you did was scroll and now I don't really do that so I feel like I miss a lot
of people's posts unless it's like the first one um we're just hanging out now this is part where
you can probably tune out of the podcast and whatever but if you're still listening hi do
you guys just listen to this passively? Like sometimes I put on a podcast and I'm like
doing something, but it's in the background and I don't know. I don't care. I should be
more disciplined and end this. I think this is like an hour and a half, but whatever.
Patience is the core ingredient to success. Gary V. Love it. Love it. Okay. So something here,
something there, enough, enough looking at Instagram. I've been cutting my, so I've been,
I'm not going to tell you my number. I'm, I don't know. I feel like I tell you guys everything. I
might as well tell you how many hours I spent on Instagram, but I've been like putting on the
little notification thing. That's like, it goes off if you've been on it past your goal and I'm
cutting back like every week I've been going back a half hour and I'm proud of myself. So I really
don't scroll on it that much anymore. Like what I just did pisses me off. Cause I'm like, I didn't
need to do that, I really didn't do anything, and it just added to my daily hours, so anyways, I'm
like, I post on Instagram, and I get the fuck out, that's the thing, you post, you dip out, you don't
need to sit there and scroll, like, I add to my story, that's it, all right, what's happening,
tomorrow's Monday, we got a great podcast tomorrow going for you, I don't know what the topic's gonna
be, I'm gonna obviously update you on what I do today, I'm so hungry, I'm gonna make food right
now food make the same fucking food i eat every day my fucking oatmeal and oatmeal and egg whites
my raspberries and uh another coffee for sure um i don't know am i just chill today it's sunday i
do kind of want all right i wanted to hike so i'm probably gonna do that later i am gonna do that
later and um what else do some research what's going on in the world for tomorrow's podcast
um I'm just on my my excuse me my my tabs on my internet on my internet oh Amazon I got I have a
delivery today oh I have an update so I thought I found my AC right we all know that that was
actually my heater talked about that a couple podcasts ago oh it was delivered yesterday okay
good my thing got delivered so I found life update I found I you know when you see something
every day and you're like oh like you don't you stop like paying attention to it I have a fucking
huge AC fan on one of my ceilings in one of my rooms and I'm like what the fuck there's a remote
I've been like staring at there's a remote in one of the drawers in this house when I moved in
that's for that fan. And I was like, what the fuck? It literally has like little, um,
like snowflakes on it, like cool air type, you know what I mean? Like it's for the fan
and I've been like neglecting or I haven't, I haven't like thought about using that ever.
And so anyways, I was on Amazon on my computer right now because I got batteries for the
controller and it got delivered. So that's exciting. I'm going to have some cool,
cool air going for once. Cause we're having, it looks like I checked the weather this week
in San Diego. It's going to be like another heat wave. Oh, I'm looking at another thing
I got delivered. Okay guys. So I was going to tease about this yesterday, but I'm going
to tease about it today. I have this new beauty secret that I've been doing. That's how would
I say this a little bit x-rated if that makes sense a little bit just like I'm not comfortable
talking about it you know what I mean like I feel like I need to like you got I have to say like
okay I will reveal this sexual not it's kind of sexual beauty secret this kind of like inappropriate
sexual beauty secret I've been doing um I need to like say like when this happens or like by this
date, or you guys have to da-da-da before I reveal it, but I want to reveal it, I think, I think I'm
going to tease about it every few weeks or so, because I do want to share it, because it is
life-changing, honestly, and I think it could work for men and women, yes, it will, yeah, obviously,
it would work for men and women, and I'm looking at, I'm looking at what I, the thing I want to
talk about, which I will not be talking, you know what, what if I say, okay, when I get,
it seems like such a low number but I'm like already impressed by like one patron if I get
when I get 10 patrons I will reveal this new sexual beauty secret Jacqueline has been
doing for a while well sort of recent and I don't know I love doing shit like that I'm gonna like
tease you guys and I'm gonna talk about it when I have 10 patrons that's the that is the uh that's
gonna be the big reveal so I don't know I did it this morning and I was like damn why isn't anyone
else fucking doing this this is the this is so like this is the best beauty secret of all time
so anyways um oh another thing I didn't mention for my 24-hour update I watched
Hilary Duff is Duff's Hilary Duff on Whitney Cummings podcast and oh my gosh guys like she
is just a ball of light like she's the I mean her energy is so she's like an angel on earth and I
grew up watching Lizzie McGuire and so so cool to watch her on Whitney's podcast like she's a mom
she's got two kids she's married and she's just so she never went crazy she's like a childhood or
uh you know she was like the Hannah Montana before Hannah Montana you know what I mean
she stayed, like, super normal for, like, she's never, she's never really gone crazy or done
anything off, you know what I mean, she's just, like, apple pie, her, she's the most beautiful
smile, just most, like, charming personality, and she's so kind, and I love the sound of her voice,
it's, like, I can't even do it, she's just so sweet, when the way she talks is so sweet,
I wish I had a sweet voice anyways uh see I enjoyed part of my end of the episode 24 hour
update as I watched her on Whitney's podcast and I just was like damn this is oh Whitney said
something funny she's like you are like what I go see my therapist to become like you are that
like what I'm trying to be is you and that is what therapy is not it's like that's what I'm there for
so I thought that was funny all right well I think this dragged on enough um happy Sunday
thanks for hanging out as always it has been a pleasure being your host today telling you about
my basketball life my basketball history crazy time and um I hope you're having a great Sunday
I will be uh here tomorrow for your Monday podcast dude and we're having burrito Tuesday
on Tuesday I decided I'm getting a burrito every fucking Tuesday I can't wait I'm like holding off
I'm like I'm gonna get a burrito every fucking Tuesday from here on out it's my thing I'm doing
it every Tuesday I've established it so we've got Monday tomorrow I need to establish what Monday's
gonna be like the theme Tuesday burrito Tuesday Wednesday WAP Wednesday someone said that's what
I should do on my um live the other night but I don't I kind of want to change WAP Wednesday
and we have thick Thursday I don't know in the future I'm gonna do different like certain days
of the week will um like if you're a patron patreon.com slash tjms if you want to support
the show the patrons will have power in some of the episodes so like they will be it'll be like
a patreon a patron only q a or like there's gonna be something works just for them so
anyways all right that's enough for the show today uh stick around if you're a patron i'll
be shouting you out you know who you are and um have a great sunday i'll talk to you tomorrow
all right bye guys all right we have a very special patreon.com slash tjms patron shout
out today once again this one goes out to the one and only ricky jensen the one and only patron of
the show. Hello. Hello, Ricky. Ricky, Ricky, Ricky. I love saying your name. I'm trying to like make
it worth it for you to stick around right now because you're the only patron. All right, today
we're doing kitchen utensils, Ricky. If you were a kitchen utensil, I'm just imagining you as a
cheese grater. I don't know why. I personally love cheese. I think you'd be the cheese grater in the
kitchen if you were a utensil. I've got you as the, so far, if you were a crayon, you'd be the
screaming green color which I honestly didn't even know existed until a few days ago when I
did a little research for that shout out and then you were also a grocery store employee yesterday
Ricky was the meat counter employee at the grocery store and today Ricky's the cheese grater all
right so there's your shout out like I've said in the past it's gonna be so much more fun to do
these when there's like a handful of people and not just one person because then I could talk
about all the kitchen utensils and talk about all the people that would be kitchen utensils
um I don't know it's fun for me I love getting creative with this there's I've literally like a
document of like 50 different topics so far and I have to come up with literally like one every
single day of the year doing these shout outs so it's gonna be a lot of fun um in the future
obviously but thanks for supporting the show as always I really appreciate it and uh you'll be
getting those basketball picks me today so that's fun thanks for uh being the patron today all right
this is always awkward ending this thank you all right that's all I got shout out Ricky all right
