Starting point is 00:00:00 what's up guys happy wednesday it's episode 243 welcome back to the show Good morning. Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone. Oh shit, hold on. I don't know how to stop the music. Oh, there we go. Good morning. Happy Cinco de Mayo. I don't know. Happy, what is it, Wednesday? Let's do a podcast. Hi, welcome back to the show I didn't really I didn't really practice that and now my dog is coming over jumping all over my desk because he's excited about the mariachi music Jimmy I got a podcast but I gotta talk to the people right now so yeah hi it's Jacqueline welcome back to the show hit that subscribe button uh I'm gonna set the scene really quick before I get into the main
Starting point is 00:01:20 topic of today's episode which I'm not gonna say where I'm gonna tease it there there are multiple topics your brain is gonna feel really good when you're done listening today like you're gonna feel it's gonna be stimulated and then yeah so anyways let me first set the scene Jesus um hi how's your week going uh welcome to my home I'm sitting in my kitchen drinking a coffee looking out the window I'm uh wearing my big ass Carhartt hoodie and some slippers and that's it and you know what I gotta be honest so I'm from Washington right and something that's still a challenge for me or for my brain to comprehend is is the marine layer the marine layer so every morning in California or out where I live in San Diego San Diego there's a
Starting point is 00:02:18 thick like blanket of clouds overhead and they're sometimes they're kind of dark and so my brain because I'm from Washington thinks it's going to rain it still thinks that even though what happens traditionally when it's not actually going to rain here is the marine layer lifts and the sun comes through at like 10 a.m and it's beautiful and it's great and it's blue sky and it's sunny but anyways like I still struggle and I feel like sometimes because I get depressed by rain like so easily sometimes my days start off kind of like I feel kind of tired and gloomy just because of the marine layer so yeah anyways not to talk about the weather but there you go I'm trying to set the scene um should I tell you about my coffee it's kind of different today I haven't done this
Starting point is 00:03:01 before actually I haven't done this in a long ass time I'm drinking an iced americano no no no no know. I'm drinking a protein coffee. How did I just say iced Americano? Like this is literally not that I'm drinking a protein coffee. I like mixed protein powder. Cause I went on a really long walk with Jimmy this morning. So I'm, I feel hungry. Usually I fast, but like, no, you guys don't give a fuck about details, but like, anyways, I felt really hungry. So I made a protein coffee. I put um a scoop of protein powder and water water water water put a scoop of protein powder and water together and then I don't know I like made it into a I mean I basically made chocolate milk but without I didn't use almond milk because I don't have any I still have to grocery shop
Starting point is 00:03:49 that's my that's also a life update I need I still have no food it's it's a joke like you should open my if you didn't listen to yesterday's episode if you open so if you open my fridge right now. There is a, all you see is a pan with saran wrap over it of chicken that I baked on Sunday. And then, oh my God, life update. I, oh my, I've, I've so many updates. I have so many updates. Hold on. Cause you're like, okay, wait, wait, wait. I got to put a little pin here on my thing to remember to say this. Not sick. Okay. Um, spoiler alert. She's not sick. Um, there's literally just a pan of chicken thighs and a bottle of spirulina powder and that's it and condiments so yeah I don't have almond milk so I mixed um I mixed water and protein powder as like the chocolate milk or
Starting point is 00:04:40 whatever and then I poured it over iced espresso and it's good I feel like it's gonna fill me up and it's kind of like a breakfast coffee I don't know but my update is yesterday yesterday I was horizontal I was sick same with Monday I was feeling like shit all day uh I don't think it was COVID but I felt it wasn't like I had a cough or excuse me a cold I did have a little cough I had like this feeling over my body that was like a flu I don't know anyways life update is that I am holy I need to okay Jacqueline coffee I just I need to like okay the caffeine officially just spiked to a different level and i feel like i i don't know i don't know what just happened but i'm on six tangents and i'm trying to keep this together um okay so i waited
Starting point is 00:05:38 until like 7 p.m for my wellness formula vitamins to to get delivered by amazon jesus so fuck where am I I feel like I okay I'm gonna drink water sorry sorry I'm really sorry okay hold on I was sick Monday Tuesday really bad I felt like I had a flu-like sickness I didn't have like a cold where I just felt like my throat hurt it was like my whole body ached I felt like shit I I was sleep I slept for like four hours like the anyways yesterday yesterday I waited all day for my special vitamins to get delivered and at 7 p.m when they got here I took 15 of them and I woke up today and I'm fine so it worked my plan worked I knew as soon as I got those delivered I would take a bunch of them and I'd wake up cured and
Starting point is 00:06:41 it worked okay there's the there's life update we got to talk about I need to cut to the chase have I set the scene enough for you I'm drinking coffee's going behind the laptop so I don't keep drinking it and get I just I know it's a broken record I know it's fucking annoying every time I podcast I'm like I'm so I'm over caffeinated oh my god I'm drinking too much coffee I need to like slow down every episode that I drink coffee anyways it's also the morning so let me people watch for you to finish setting the scene my cute old lady neighbor just parked her Honda CRV she's walking inside with a red purse it looks like a coach bag I used to sell those yeah a leather coach bag and then I don't know you know I'm gonna assume what she's holding
Starting point is 00:07:29 is a package of croissants or some shit from the grocery store she just like walked in with the it looks like pastries are inside like I know she just went to Vons early because old people go to Vons really early or they go grocery shopping super early and she's bringing her husband pastries like they they're she got like some croissants that's really cute that reminds me of my grandma like something my grandparents would do um and I've been watching her lavender grow she's got this amazing lavender bush and I'm just a real I'm I don't she doesn't interact with people I think she's went during COVID I she's I saw her come out of her house in 2020 one time and she were like it was bad like
Starting point is 00:08:14 they they hid my neighbors hid all of 2020 because they're older so yeah it's good to see her and I'm curious like at some point I want to have a conversation with her but she's she just she doesn't really talk to people she's very you know anyways so there you go there's the people watching segment let's talk about condom sales so here's what we're gonna do today um I have okay I'm gonna like do a pregnant pause collect myself before I keep going. I think I need to do more of this. I need to pause more during the podcast. Okay. I'm ready. Here's what we're going to do today. I have an array of notes in random videos I've saved and shit from like TikTok with interesting,
Starting point is 00:09:07 full of interesting topics. Okay. So what I'm going to do today is I'm going to pull them up and I'm going to Google a lot of shit and we're going to find out new, interesting information together. So number one is condom sales. Okay. This is business insider. Condom sales skyrocket as vaccinated singles get ready for a summer of sex, experts say. Condom sales increased after slumping during the pandemic. Okay. Of course. CNN reported condom sales shot up 23.4% between March and April, 2021. Manufacturers say the uptick in condom sales could be linked to more singles getting vaccinated. Okay. Oh, this is condom sales have skyrocketed as sky. Oh, this is dumb okay condom sales have skyrocketed as hot vax summer approaches oh my god
Starting point is 00:10:12 so yeah okay cool Jacqueline skyrocket condom sales skyrocketed or they went up 23.4 percent wow Jacqueline thank you so much I didn't know that that was so interesting I don't know why I like made a big deal about this but um okay cool of course they did like it's this this makes sense. I'm not surprised, but here's something I am surprised by. Here's an interesting statistic for you. According to the match.com 2020 singles in America survey, 71% of singles reported they haven't had sex during the pandemic. 71%. I don't know why that seems like super high or like, I just think that I feel like that's a huge number, but, um, or huge percentage of single people, but okay, there you go. 71% didn't have sex in 2020. Um, and then here's another survey
Starting point is 00:11:07 20, uh, according to the 2021 skin sex and intimacy survey, 39% of respondents reporting reported having an increased sex drive since the start of the pandemic. Okay. No shit. I don't know. was this worth your time i just read some stats uh excited for condom companies this summer i feel like if that percentage is only going to keep going um so yeah cool uh there's something in the air though there's definitely something in the air like people i i can just tell like it's gonna be a lot of i i'm gonna see i feel like i'm gonna be in pacific beach and people are gonna be fucking on the streets like literally just like in public out in like people are just gonna be humping each other left and right it's gonna be insane um okay the the next topic we're
Starting point is 00:12:02 gonna talk about is itching itching itching we're gonna go from condoms to itching because i want to find out why we get itchy why i'm asking google why do we itch i'm fascinated by this i saw a tiktok video that inspired me to look this up why do we itch i don't understand it um because it's like it comes out of nowhere nothing will be touching you and you'll have an itch so what is that i need to know i need to know what's happening in my body or like what's happening and I don't the air like why do we itch randomly this is a common question here it's got to be something with our nerves right like there's our nerves do something and that makes us have an itch because you know what you know what it is it's like well currently I think
Starting point is 00:12:56 I talked to you guys about this like a week or so ago or even well okay I've been my cat or excuse not my calves, my shins are so itchy all the time to the point of like, I, I don't even like right now. Okay. I'm like, I'm not even touching them, but I can tell, like, I can feel that they're itchy. Does that make sense? Like I can feel, what is that? Why does that happen? I don't understand it. I know they're like, I can feel it. I want, I've had to ignore a lot of my urges to itch them because I don't want to ruin my fucking skin or anything but like it's I don't know why that something's happening in my in my shins like something's changed because I've never had itchy skin I've never and at one point like when I first got Jimmy I thought I was allergic to him
Starting point is 00:13:49 because I kept having really itchy um legs like if I was laying on the couch with like shorts on or something and he laid on my thighs my thighs would be super itchy so I was like oh my am I allergic to my dog like I don't know so let's look this up um why do we get itchy? Why does scratching feel better? Let's do this. Chemicals released in the skin send a message to the spine through nerves in the skin. Okay, whoa. Chemicals released in the skin send a message to the spine through nerves in the skin. Then the spine communicates with the brain and we become itchy my nose like as I'm reading this I my nose fucking itches like it's there someone in the simulate whoever's controlling me in the simulation is fucking
Starting point is 00:14:40 with me now I'm like I can't I have like oh my god my apple watch underneath the itches fuck I feel like this is like yawning if you see someone yawn you yawn you yawn if you read about itching you're gonna start itching what the fuck I'm all of us okay is this uh what's called predictive programming what the fuck is that called where i'm being like or not predictive programming but it's okay sorry um one of the most common causes of itch on the skin is dry skin no shit what which causes micro fractures within the skin skin barrier this causes okay obviously okay causes of itchy skin I feel like in my case it's dry skin but like it but okay here's the thing I drink a shit ton of
Starting point is 00:15:35 water I drink so much water I'm like I don't have issues drinking up enough water I know that about myself like I pee I don't know I drink a lot of water and then after I shave my legs whenever I'm in the shower. Even if I don't, I put on, I preach this so many fucking times. I do, um, my moisturizer, my plain moisturizer mixed with almond oil. Am I, am I allergic to almond oil? Like I've never had issues, but all of a sudden I'm like, anyways, so I hydrate my skin. I drink a lot of water. I don't know why. Like, I, I feel like they're itchy for no fucking reason. Cause my skin isn't dry. Maybe there's something going on with my shin bone. Is there like something growing on my shin bone? I don't know. Why is it so hard to resist scratching
Starting point is 00:16:32 an itch? Itching is an inherently harassing and annoying sensation. Our natural instinct instinct is to eliminate it okay um I want to find out what was the last part why it feels so good to itch your skin um anyways I feel like I'm spending way too much time on talking about why our skin itches one of the recommendations if you feel like you have to itch yourself and you don't want to like scratch or if you don't want to like, like scratch too hard or anything, it's to keep your hands busy. Like use a stress ball. Oh, you know, the fucking worst thing is when you have an itch under your foot and you're, you're wearing shoes. Like why does that happen? That's a, that's a very
Starting point is 00:17:21 specific moment in your life. We've all had it. You're wearing tennis shoes and the middle bottom part of your foot itches. Explain that. And there isn't a little rock in there. There isn't a little, you know it's just like a fucking I just itched my eyebrow like everything's itchy right now I don't like this I don't like this I've never I feel like I'm making everyone listening uncomfortable talking about itching including myself yeah like why does the arch of your foot just randomly itch when you're wearing shoes I don't get it and it's like a very it's like a certain spot or like on your back like that one spot will itch it's like why I don't know okay I'm gonna move on um so the next topic is blow pen blow pens blow b-l-o pens now one of my favorite
Starting point is 00:18:17 lanes, one of my favorite lanes I, I, I like, uh, scrolling in on TikTok is early 2000s or like nineties, uh, nineties kid toys or whatever. And like early 2000s nostalgia. Yeah. Like nineties nostalgia, especially with like kid toys and crafts and shit. So blow pens haven't been in my brain since I owned them. I think I had a box of them. Um, but anyways, do you ever, so all I'm going to say is this, the, uh, the fucking, let me go back to my Safari. I think I was Googling. Where was I Googling it? Blow pens. Um, Google image search, blow pens. It is the most, basically these kids. Okay. Just like, I honestly don't want to say anything else. I just want to say, go to Google images, look at the blow pens, look at the pictures of
Starting point is 00:19:25 the kids doing it. It looks sexual. It looks inappropriate. You know, I feel like, I don't know. I can't unsee it. I can't unsee it. Just everything about the way they're holding the blow pens the way they're putting their mouth around the blow pens the way they're positioning the blow pens the way they're looking at the like every it's just it's it's I can't believe this was a I don't know that's where my head goes like I'm an adult now like that's where my head goes but like the reason why I'm like what the fuck is because these are like like this girl's wearing pigtails she's like fucking anyways she's like six and like who comes up with that like oh here let me describe it a blow a blow pen is basically a marker type thing that you blow into
Starting point is 00:20:17 to color with and then however it works makes the ink like spray out like a fucking like a spray can or like a spray paint bottle or whatever the fuck and then you can like draw or you can like color with it with your mouth and like move it around do you get what I'm saying so like who why was that necessary why did that have to be a thing like why did why was that like why was that a I don't know but just google image it if you're like well if you're a fucking pedophile go with google image anyways uh but I I wanted to mention that because for obviously what I just said but then uh because it's now I see like when you're older you notice shit that you're like whoa when I was a
Starting point is 00:21:05 kid I would have never thought that but now that I'm older and I know shit about life and how this world works I see stuff but um anyways another reason I wanted to mention is because there's so many things that like as I get older that keep getting unlocked that I use the word like unlocked like they get unlocked from my past like something I've never I haven't thought of since I was like 12 and then all of a sudden a TikTok will roll through my feed and I'll be like oh my god and it's so I don't know what it does to me it just makes me happier it makes me feel like wow life used to be so fun and so cool and so good when you were a kid and I don't know I like to be reminded of the shit I used to play with or like do or especially like the outfits we would
Starting point is 00:21:46 wear like what is it with the whole I remember in uh I don't know like 2000 early 2000s up to like eighth grade it's like I'd say like 2008 even through high school we kind of did this but why was it a thing for girls to layer their camis like you'd put on a white cami with white lace on the bottom and that was like a status thing like if you had the white lace showing you were cool I remember this because when we went to um or excuse me at the school I went to we had to wear a uniform every day and we had these white polos that we had to tuck in but we would fuck around and we would be little rebels and we would wear our white camis and our shirt and our polos untucked and it was like a layered look and then the the biggest flex was this if you
Starting point is 00:22:41 had the white cami with the hollister bird uh embroidery showing that's a that was like okay she's the she's the baddest bitch in this fucking cafeteria right now and then if you also had the polo at the bottom if the bottom of the polo also had the Hollister Eagle thing seagull embroidery like you were the shit and I feel like that was such a everybody knew it it was something that went unsaid it was something that went unsaid but like if you shop especially because I went to a private school where you couldn't wear like regular clothes if yeah anytime you had something from Abercrombie Hollister or American Eagle you were the shit and it was like especially if your shirt said it like if your graphic tee
Starting point is 00:23:32 if you had like a graphic tee that said it I don't know but I don't know why like why did all the girls in early 2000s we'd wear like short jean skirts like we'd wear yeah jean skirts with, like, black leggings underneath that went down to, like, half, like, halfway down our calves, and then a cami, and then, like, two camis staggered, so you can see the different colors or whatever, and then, like, a graphic tee, and then one of those stupid bags that was, like, a hobo bag with, like, sequins and shit, yeah, I don't know, we were, and then what's crazy is, like, some of these trends are coming back and I'm like oh my god the trend cycle is go the trend cycle is going so fast right now that every week it's something new it's like it's we're in a washing machine
Starting point is 00:24:24 with our with our fashion trends right now and I I'm it's so obnoxious it's so in our face it's like I don't know I think personal style is fucking dead and that sucks like especially with um like people on social media like it's no one has a it's like everyone looks exactly everyone dresses exactly the same there's no like no one's doing their own thing or like where i don't know there's a lot of copycatting especially with like um everyone's trying to dress like hayley bieber everyone's trying to dress like um what's what's her name fucking princess diana from the 90s which is amazing shout out princess diana but like i don't know how many more biker short crew neck uh gold jewelry fucking high sock outfits can we put together before i have
Starting point is 00:25:20 an aneurysm or like a neon blazer with a hoodie underneath like holy shit that's so cool i don't know people look good though i feel like a lot of people have great style um but the trend cycle that's what i'm trying to say is so every it's like holy fuck like we're gonna we're going from the the 90s to the early 2000s to the 80s to the 70s it's like all spiraling so anyways um okay now we're gonna talk about the highway systems in america and how they came to be because um, I don't understand, first of all, this is inspired by a TikTok, let me shout this person out, um, this is from Iamjamist, Iamjamist on TikTok, she made a great point, like, and I've thought about this before, like, when they built roads, highways, everything, like,
Starting point is 00:26:20 how did they just get a bunch of concrete and then decide like how the route was going to go and like, how did they start and how did they, I don't know. So let's just like Google how, how did highways start? Yeah. Right. I don't care how stupid I sound right now. I'm just, I'm genuinely curious in this topic or about this topic and um like you know what I mean when you see like a windy road it's like how did they why is is because of the way the land was laid out but like how did you know where to connect I don't know especially like back in the day day like back in the deep like fucking GPS didn't exist um the United States government's efforts to construct national network of highways began on an ad hoc basis i don't know what that means
Starting point is 00:27:20 what does ad hoc mean ad it's probably abbreviation for something ad hoc meaning enter um oh when necessary or needed ad hoc i just learned something at an on an ad hoc basis with the passage of the federal aid road act of 1916 which provided 75 million dollars over a five-year period for matching funds to the states for the construction and improvement of highways earl warren invented california's or he helped create california's highway system okay do you guys know what I mean like I just feel I don't know I not to like bring up the simulation because I think that's fucking cliche and annoying like some days I'm like yeah that's we're 100% like we get a simulation like how do we just build all these fucking roads I
Starting point is 00:28:22 don't get it like I get it but I don't especially at first is what I mean like especially like I guess it started out as trails and then the trails expanded and then they found like concrete was a thing and then they started like pouring concrete and then they're like well we're just going to cover this trail this dirt gravel patch of you know trail we've been using or whatever we're going to cover it with concrete and make it an official road and then over time I guess every road was just patched up with concrete or every like trail dirt patch path and then because they were already established as we explored all the little all the little trails and shit and then oh my god but then towns
Starting point is 00:29:10 yeah like every town was a main street and that was probably okay whoa again i say i think shit in my head then i try to verbalize it it makes sense in my head but when I say it I don't feel like it makes sense to you guys so I'm just gonna keep it shut keep it shut um let me see though if I have like where did the first highway wait a minute wait a minute I'm gonna google the first portion of a highway wait the start how fucking stupid do i sound right now i feel like i don't know i just want to like see a picture route 66 okay like where's this first where okay wait where the sidewalk ends bitch shell silverstein was a great uh that was one of my favorite books growing up where the sidewalk
Starting point is 00:30:06 ends where does the rail where does the fucking high where does i where the start i'm gonna google the start of I-5, bitch. That's the highway I'm most familiar with. Now, I know there's different slang terms for freeway, highway, interstate. Highway, freeway, interstate. Life is a highway. I don't know. I say them all. I say highway. Get on the five. I say get on the five. But people in California, like in San Diego, it's like the 805, the five it's like we have all these crisscrossing uh highways anyways freeway highway potato potato okay wait the start of i-5 is in canada it's not that exciting i mean it's just like it's not like it just has a dead end or does it i don't
Starting point is 00:30:59 get it you know what i mean though like it doesn't does it go all the way up to the fucking north poll like it doesn't it's got to have a start wait a minute if I go on maps on my phone holy shit I could probably find this quick I wait I five I gotta go to the surf shop today and get my fucking package I don't want to I just remembered that gotta get my blazer vancouver okay i-5 99 okay we're in white rock bc wait does i-5 stop in oh so i-5 turns into the 99 in vancouver bc the 99 goes all the way to wait wait then there's like the one in canada that wait where does the 99 goes to the one hold on i really want to see this but here's the thing that's what happens is like they all turn
Starting point is 00:32:10 into something else but the 99 is going all the way up to holy shit you could take the 99 in canada oh my god we're up in are we in alaska are we in prince george wait holy shit no it goes like all the way i gotta follow it i'm on a mission i gotta follow it where's that 99 okay that's the 20 okay oh my god so basically like just goes all the way up canada but then it's like where's the end of it they all just combine you know what it is there isn't an end holy shit i just spent 15 minutes i just answered my own question look they all connect there isn't an end they all run into each other it's a circle it's a web it's a fucking highway systems are webs there isn't a beginning and there isn't an end you go on one it connects to another
Starting point is 00:33:08 as soon as the, it's like the five goes up to Blaine, Washington, then it switches over to, and when you go to white, cross the border to White Rock, BC, turns into the 99, the 99 turns into the 20, if you go all the way up to fucking the North Pole or whatever, cool, okay, great topic, Jacqueline, wow, we're learning, our brains, does your brain feel better, I feel like I'm just making it worse. Okay. So this I am Jamest TikTok has another topic, uh, that I want to talk about that she doesn't understand, which are, um, like cuss words, like swear words, like the topic. So who decides the swear words are bad, are bad. Like who initially decided that fuck was a bad word or like shit or damn or hell or whatever like the origin of curse words is the next google
Starting point is 00:34:03 search the origin of swear words enter in english swear words and curse words like shit like shit have a german root german okay like shit have a german german german germanic germanic root as likely does fuck though damn and piss come from old french and ultimately latin the more technical and polite alternatives are often the more tech oh my god read a paragraph read a paragraph without, like, what the fuck? I'm going to start over. In English, swear. I am, I can't read. I can't read. What the, okay. I never do this bad. Okay, I swear, One thing I notice about myself when I podcast is that whenever there's a paragraph I have to read from a news article or whatever, I usually don't fuck it up. I'm pretty good at it.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Today's a different story. Let me start again. Start for the third time. In English, swear words and curse words, like shit, have a Germanic root. as likely does fuck though damn and piss come from old english fuck i just fucked up old french and ultimately latin the more technical and polite alternatives are often latin in origin such as defecate or excrete for shit and fornicate or copulate for fuck okay um who invented swear words common google search here we don't know how the earliest speakers of english swore
Starting point is 00:36:00 because it wasn't written down before the 15th century which is which is when swearing first appeared in writing most writing was done by monks and they were too good and their work too important for them to write down swear words oh the guardian who invented swearing is frick a bad word dude what fucking mormon asked that question to google is frick a bad word frickin frickin freak oh one of my sorry i don't know if it was that what fucked up anyways my pet peeve is when people don't say fuck and they use other words instead of fuck or like freaking oh my that's freaking unbelievable freaking freaking like i for example was
Starting point is 00:36:49 in a relationship before where that was thrown around freaking freaking freaking frick it was all thrown around in conversation and it was the most it was the biggest it was a fucking turn off say fuck don't say frick fuck get it right okay I just like I was like what the what the fuck say just stop saying like freaking freaking unbelievable I was that's freaking unbelievable freaking I can't do it I can't do it fuck or get the fuck out that's what it is okay so I still haven't found me my uh I still haven't found out how the shit got started or honestly I read the paragraph and I didn't comprehend what I was reading I was just reading words and I don't like I said or I found out that um uh shit is has shit has Germanic root
Starting point is 00:37:45 from germany so same shit and fuck come from germany damn and piss come from france and then the polite alternatives are from latin have latin origin like defecate excrete these are not like these are not even bad words they're more polite fornicate cope okay so the etymology of the top seven curse words I've never talked about these topics before and like where did we go we went from hey I'm sitting in my kitchen looks like it's gonna rain we went from that to hey condom sales are up hey condom sales are up 71% of singles didn't have sex in 2020 we learned that then we went to hey blow pens google image search blow pens and uh get mad or like or be disgusted or like what the fuck
Starting point is 00:38:45 google image search blow pens i had i unlocked some things from my childhood and then i talked about camisoles and jean skirts and fashion and i talked about i bitched about how fashion is so it's moving so quickly now that it's like in a washing machine it's like every week is a new decade something a new decade is trending every other week um and then I talked about itching and dude I've got great memory oh my god wait am I really nailing this down right now holy shit we talked about itching we talked about now swear words was there oh we talked about itching highways and now swear words jimmy come over here come here jim let's take a little break before i keep going on swearing are there any other topics though i mean what let's like let's
Starting point is 00:39:40 read some shit here about swearing and then let's uh move on potty mouth grammar nerds of the world unite potty-mouthed grammar nerds of the world unite i was in a fight with a fellow introvert the other day it's rare but it does happen anyway this companion of mine happens to take his grammar pretty seriously so i'm always on my grammatical guard so i'm always on my grammatical guard around him lest he correct me for an accidental slip-up. Because we were fighting over the use of the serial comma, what else? Things got pretty heated between us. As two young language buffs, we both tend to take advantage of all the words
Starting point is 00:40:35 available in a fight, even those that might not be so acceptable, and what some would call polite company. We've both been known to use what we can only describe as inventive curses in the past, especially when discussing controversial matters of punctuation. Curse like a sailor, study like a scholar. Are you ready for your most risque English lesson ever? I promise not to curse at you or offend you, but i will be introduced introducing you to the following seven words using their actual spelling holy shit no dashes stars or hashtags will be included to shield your delicate eyes but considering it's all this all the all the name of learning it's okay fun fact for you
Starting point is 00:41:28 fun fact for you did you know that the combination of various symbols to represent an obscenity like percent at hashtag money sign exclamation point is called growlix growlix so when you oh wow okay i just learned that when you put a bunch of symbols instead of writing the word out it's called growlix oh my gosh they have what is this called the etymology of the top seven curse words so they literally break down each curse word. What one do we want to start with? There's seven curse words. We've got shit, piss, ass, hell, damn, bitch, fuck. Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tit. Dude, the fucking Blink-182 song, right? Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker,
Starting point is 00:42:29 motherfucker, shit, shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cock, sucker, motherfucker, what song is this, I forgot the name of it, uh, blink 182, uh, family reunion, this is the name of the fucking song, family reunion, shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cock, sucker, motherfucker, tit, fart, turd, and twat, shit, piss, fuck, I fucked your mom, and I want to suck my dad, I forgot this song, I gotta play it, i gotta play it oh my god we're throwing the shit back today we're talking about blow pens we're talking about blink 182 family reunion uh blink i fucked your mom what that's a great lyric okay 182 um here we go wait i can't play it's gonna be copyright but i'm playing like the first
Starting point is 00:43:24 part of it oh my god what are the top comments here all rise for the Call of Duty multiplayer anthem Billie Eilish my songs are very deep blink 182
Starting point is 00:43:54 hold my skateboard 13 year old girls oh my god this is so deep I remember just screaming this song with my friends in middle school shit piss fuck cock sucker brother fucker tip bar turn it to a shit piss okay so let's like break down some words here should we just start with fuck I mean the etymology of the top seven curse words let's just start with fuck i'm curious so fuck uh is uh okay this is the big one well one of the big ones the other big ones were a bit too big for us to put in print wow okay what am i saying so the origin of fuck is early 16th century of germanic origin okay um possibly from an indo-european root meaning strike meaning strike shared by latin
Starting point is 00:45:00 the latin meaning fist okay i don't this is fucking boring isn't it interesting that in today's world it's more offensive to refer to compilation in a vulgar way vulgar way than it is to wish eternal eternal damnation on someone I personally think our priorities are a bit out of whack on this one but alas I don't make the rules what the fuck are you doing oh fuck I stubbed my toe I'm so fucking tired that is fucked up in conclusion I hope you feel as much as I'm reading this fucking post I think I'm just gonna end the swearing segment with finding out about fuck it came it's origins early 16th century it's from germany um that's what i'd expect i'd expect
Starting point is 00:45:53 fuck to come from the germans um but i'm just gonna say this i'm gonna end the swearing segment with saying um i got coached on okay well my shout out to my dad he like what did he say about swearing like he taught us how to emphasize swear words in the right way like there's a way to say a swear word in a sentence to really give it a punch or like to really pack a punch pack a punch so I remember learning how to do that really young um we also had so for the longest time when we were kids we'd be in our van in our booster seats and did you guys have booster seats like that was like a big deal we got booster seats that like they sat us up higher it was like safer if you're a kid to be in a car in a booster seat apparently I don't
Starting point is 00:46:50 know um I think we got them at Costco where did we get those I don't know anyways but I remember for the longest time, the only word we were allowed to say, the only cuss word we could say out loud in front of our parents was, well, it wasn't even a cuss word. We could say crap, crap, oh crap, oh crap. I remember like crap, crap was the big, it was like thrown around left and right because we couldn't say shit. We couldn't say fuck. It was always crap.
Starting point is 00:47:21 And then there was a, there was a moment when we matured there. I have two other siblings, by the way, if you're like, okay, what's going on in the van? Like who's all there? My parents and my two siblings. But I remember there's a moment when we, when we got older and we matured where we could say shit. And I remember it started to slip out of me. It started to come out. We started saying shit a little more often and it really made my mom mad. I remember crap is okay. Crap is always okay. But then shit really made her go, come on guys, don't swear cut that out you know she'd get really like oh my god stop swearing don't swear even now when I swear she's super triggered like uh she's actually the reason I'm swear I feel like
Starting point is 00:48:06 I swear I probably swear every podcast but she's the reason I cut back so much she's part of the reason because she's like or I even noticed in a really pop there's a really popular podcast I listen to um or I used to listen to and I noticed how the cussing would take away from the talking points and the content like it was cloudy it wasn't adding it was taking away when I listened to the episode I was like it's you're riding on the cussing to a little too much here or something like it just I noticed it from podcast host podcast host I was like oh there's a there's levels to swearing like you can swear more you can swear less and so anyways but yeah still to this day my mom doesn't like like we all swear but like she still
Starting point is 00:48:48 we'll go oh come on jacqueline don't say that um i'm trying to be a little more i don't know grown and just sophisticated and posh and fucking classy i gotta watch myself now but yeah i remember when shit was like a big like it started we started saying it more and then it just kind of like shit it was like the floodgates are open now we're saying fuck now we're just going out we're just yeah but um i can't believe my dad well i can't believe it's so like i'm glad he taught us how to swear because there's a way to do it there's a way to there's a way to say it and you know to really get your point across with a with a swear word like if you're going to use them you got to say it right
Starting point is 00:49:35 um like how would i say that is fucked up in 10 ways like you could say that is fucked up and it could mean so many I'm so fucking tired so fucking tired see I'm so fucking tired oh fuck oh I stumbled too
Starting point is 00:49:59 dude I have to piss how classy was that mom so life is a highway I want to ride it all night long um what's this episode where are we at what did we cover i think i recapped it already but like is there any other topics are there topics i want to keep going on do we want to learn about any other cuss words like damn hell asses are kind of boring
Starting point is 00:50:30 i mean shit is like it's kind of comes from like feces from poop from to defecate which is inherently, like, shit is, like, feces are gross, and so it's kind of a negative word as it is, so I feel like shit, what does it say here? Even more interesting is the fact that the word shit actually used to be neutral, with no vulgar connotations well i feel like in england or in the uk people say shit they say shite wait what did they fucking say shite shit they don't i don't know if it's like they'll be like oh that's shit that's shit that's shit that's shit they'll just like say
Starting point is 00:51:25 like that's bad that's shit i think yeah i don't know it's more nonchalant or it's like less of a swear word seems like there but they have interesting dude I used to have this um when I my dad got me a book before I um went to London it was like full of British slang it was really interesting like some of the shit they say maybe that'll be my trip this year I don't know it's probably not gonna happen this year but I need to get back there i need to fucking like my evil plan is to find someone to i just okay here's where i'm at i just want to fucking okay i'm probably going to date around i don't know more a little bit more but like the end goal is to like lock it down get into a long
Starting point is 00:52:20 term serious committed relationship with someone and then like travel with them a little bit and then like have like go back i want to take someone to london so bad i just want to like travel around and do shit so yeah but i really think i need to get back there i have a travel bug like bigger than ever now which used to not be the case for the longest time especially when i first moved to california i was like i'm on vacation every day like i i it's starting to wear like it's kind worn off a little bit i still feel like that but um for the first couple years i like didn't care about flying to a different country and like traveling like i wasn't it wasn't on my radar where now i'm like kind of eager i'm like i fucking i'm i have cabin fever of this country
Starting point is 00:53:05 and like get me out of here so yeah oh i think i'm gonna end it where's jim sometimes he lays behind me and I'm like I feel like okay there's something about having a dog where you like know where they are without looking like you can feel their presence or their energy like you can just tell and he's not behind me but I thought he was like I felt him behind me but he's not where is he he's probably in his little corner he's so weird like why do dogs prefer the hard floor like I've got all these cute cushiony options for him to lay on and then he chooses the hardwood floor like is it because it's cooler should i get him one of those beds raised up to like like a cooling mat thing i don't know all right happy wednesday
Starting point is 00:53:56 thanks for hanging out um hope you enjoyed these random topics i don't know i was just in the mood to like look up a bunch of shit that i was curious about and share it with you and yeah just like bring up topics that are not talked about all the time I guess or like whatever um so yeah hit that subscribe button I'm here seven days a week and if you want to support the show support my podcasting journey uh head over to patreon.com slash tjms and that'll give you access to my bonus exclusive fancy fucking what's content my cool content
