Starting point is 00:00:00 what's up guys it's episode 368 welcome back to the show hey what's up it's jacqueline welcome back to the show I know. It's a little corny. Just let it happen. Okay. This is something new for the show. All right. I'll kill it because I'm sitting with my new Rodecaster Pro 2. We're adding music. We're adding sound effects on the show now. And I just got it, what, two days ago. And it's so great. It's so fun. But I have to use all the pre-loaded sound effects right now because like this. um because I haven't uploaded my own yet and um that's gonna be a fun a fun thing to do because yeah anyways I've got a Rodecaster Pro 2 I'm currently um
Starting point is 00:01:10 I'm tired okay I slept eight and a half hours last night I'm tired but I want to talk to you today I'm gonna talk to you about two things uh one that's gonna potentially get me fired the second is about a scam a scam that I'm currently involved in with Corey in our backyard or a scam we went through a few days ago um with a contractor it's not a scam but I want to talk to you about the crazy yeah like situation with a contractor we went through so um because as you know if you're new hi I'm Jacqueline um hi welcome back to the show this is my podcast uh I'm I just moved on Valentine's Day to a new home with my fiance Corey and we are redoing our entire backyard right now and that's kind of like the that's the biggest project we're working on
Starting point is 00:02:05 because the house is basically done so anyways that's going on um but yeah I welcome back to the show hi how are you are your eyes okay did you watch the eclipse is your heart happy or sad about OJ Simpson dying what else happened this week um I don't know it's uh I'm I'm tired you know why I'm tired I slept eight and a half hours um it's it's that time okay I usually don't like to talk about my bodily functions and I think it's so annoying when influencers are like I'm on my period today and I'm bloated and I'm whatever I don't like I never do that so this is like a very rare occasion that i'm bringing you into my womanhood but um it's it's that time okay i'm tired um and it's like day two so it's rough you know and i ate a lot of sushi last night
Starting point is 00:03:00 and a lot of ice cream i skipped the gym and i'm just it's one of those days i'm like and i and i gotta bust this out so the reason why i'm doing this right now oh my god so i had to cancel an appointment we're at an appointment for at the vet canceled um because jimmy's got a really bad skin problem right now that we're trying to solve so that got canceled and i have this window of time to podcast but i also got an ambush uh hey by the way we're having a guy come by to do lighting stuff today so uh cory's gonna come home and we're gonna go to lunch and this guy's gonna do our lighting for our trees outside and anyway so like i'm podcasting hi welcome back to the show hope you had a great week i hope uh i didn't watch the eclipse i mean i'm in southern california so like
Starting point is 00:03:49 i don't know it was it was a nothing burger here but that was cool um that happened oj simpson died i don't know like what else is going on the world i don't really care i just want to talk to you guys about honestly my job and um because i have a nine-to-five and uh the scam the scam i'm involved in or like the scam that potentially could have happened it was never gonna happen but i just want to tell you i just want to tell the story um so yeah please hit that subscribe button wherever you're listening right now i'm on apple spotify google podcast hit your breaker overcast wherever you listen to podcasts please hit that subscribe button and don't forget to review the show five stars please hit that five star review button on apple or spotify helps me out helps
Starting point is 00:04:38 people find out about the show and finally if you want to support the show patreon.com slash tjms it's five dollars a month it's my little tip jar so head over to patreon.com slash tjms to become a patron there and follow me on Instagram and TikTok at Jacqueline Monroe. All right, let's get into it. So I did have this thought speaking of skipping the gym. I did have this, this thought the other day and this guy literally made a TikTok about it, but I want to tell you a story also about a gym thing when I was in college. I don't know why I'm going in this angle right now. Like what else? Let me set the scene. Okay. We're going to talk about like, go, cause I go to the gym every morning and I always have this thought and this guy made a tiktok about it so I'm gonna play
Starting point is 00:05:25 the tiktok but um yeah let me set the scene like literally wearing um the baggiest Adam Sandler outfit ever right now like this is I'm in a big Padres hoodie and like Adidas sweatpants and I'm I haven't washed my face it's bad like this is like this is like the okay this is me I'm I'm in my 2020 form right now I'm in my 2020 mode like just grubby tired bloated my skin's actually my skin's doing really well um I so my my two things I talked about this last week my two goals my wedding prep is literally don't pick your face and walk 10,000 steps a day that's it like I'm making it I'm making it really simple for myself because anyways but yeah my skin's actually doing really great right now but like it still has my skincare on from last night and I don't
Starting point is 00:06:25 know I'm like a little crusty musty so um this is like I would say my true form my true like my my brand is very yeah Adam Sandler very um it's like such a not to call myself a hot girl but Like, if you know, you know, I feel like there's like memes about it. Like you're either a complete trash bag, rat, like ugly, crusty version of yourself, or you're like, you know, tan, perfect skin, nails, nails, tan hair, hot outfit, like in the club vibes, like full face of makeup. Like it's one or the other. There's no in between.
Starting point is 00:07:10 I do have a daily routine. I posted about it a lot, but of my like five minute makeup and my, like how I pull myself together quickly and look decent without taking a lot of time. But today I'm, I'm, I'm fully just not looking great. Uh, cool. So yeah, that's like, oh, and I, we got a coffee this morning. We woke up late. Okay. I need to tell you this other thing that's going on with our dog. Okay. so we have the scam we've got my job that's potentially I literally am like about to make a series called day one of me talking about my corporate job until they fire me day two of me talking about my corporate job until they fire me like guys I think I'm not gonna be ah fuck I can't
Starting point is 00:07:59 say this out loud ah shit this is gonna get me fired exactly that's a whole like see I'm I'm in I'm testing the water right now just know that um it's a anyways we'll get into it I want to talk about that we got to talk about this gym tiktok this guy talked about on his tiktok that's super like i think about all the time and then louis is not sleeping through the night and we've conditioned him louis our english bulldog and literally for the last like two to three weeks at 12 30 2 30 4 a.m 4 30 a.m he sits outside of our door and he whines and he wants to come cuddle with us and sleep with us and i'm like okay well he can't sleep with us because he sounds like a bear snoring like we won't i sleep hard but cory can't sleep through that so and we don't let we
Starting point is 00:08:51 don't let our dogs sleep in our bed like while we're sleeping they sleep they honestly just like sleep on the couches we don't have doggy beds we do have doggy beds but they sleep on the couches and it's this new thing and last night um i'm on duty now because i feel like cory's been taking care of it the whole time and now i'm like i got it i feel like we have a new it's like it's like this is like the newborn baby thing it's like all night long they're they cry you have to get up you have to tend to them you know and then they put them back down it's like literally the same thing with louis and um god's really testing us right now like it's like this is you know this is what it's going to be like. So, uh, we make jokes about that too. It's, it's so, it's exactly like
Starting point is 00:09:33 having a newborn anyways. Um, yeah, he hasn't been sleeping through the night and I don't know why. I feel like it's, he's just so conditioned cause we sleep, we cuddle with them before they go to bed. And then, um, wait, are you still with me? Still? Are you still, is this putting you need to sleep wake up we're talking about dogs okay cool just I gotta remember I got sound effects now I gotta like you know use them where I can so yeah we cuddle with them before they go to bed and then I think he just wants to stay in the bed anyways it's like so annoying and I was up at 4 30 and then for some reason our alarm didn't go off to go to the gym what what am i oh i was gonna tell you we we went and got a coffee we went and got a coffee we still
Starting point is 00:10:26 don't have a coffee maker here so we're like every morning we're like we want coffee we have to go get it you know we do have a french press but the coffee grounds we have suck and i like need to get better ones because i just it's not fun to make coffee because it tastes bad so yeah and then we have a crew here currently just like we did last week the same crew for a different project uh in our backyard working um so they built the wall that was last week this week they're building the stairs and i'll get into the the other contractor in a sec but first uh yeah louis not sleeping but let me play this this talk of uh dude i sound so like this is so 2020 if you know you know like oh it's like i'm grossed out i'm like so annoyed by
Starting point is 00:11:15 myself i'm like i need to like i need to be more like bubbly and like hi guys like hope you had a great week like oh my god let's talk about like stuff like let's talk about like what shows are happening right now like is selling sunset on is i don't talk about like reality shows like um love is blind ended i think it's over are we in the bachelor era now like what are we talking about in the pop culture and reality tv space like i don't have a lot to mention about any of that because like literally oh my god this was such okay new topic already a new tangent we're not going to talk about the gym thing um i spend okay our routine a night is like okay we have dinner either we go to dinner last night we went to sushi the night before we had italian the night
Starting point is 00:12:09 before that I made dinner. So it's like multiple times a week we're eating out or we're making dinner at home. It's kind of like half and half. And then we come home and for the most part, I like start getting ready for bed. Like I'll, I always, I, I shower every night, every morning, every night, every morning after the gym, every night, just what I do to shower day person. Um, and I like wind down get ready for bed at this point Corey's watching shows he's watching tv he's like in bed like he just goes to bed and I have this whole routine I'm like in the shower I'm doing skincare stuff I'm like whitening my teeth I'm getting my hair nice or whatever perfectly putting a messy bun for the next day so it looks nice like I'm it takes me I don't know I'm probably
Starting point is 00:13:04 in the bathroom for like 45 minutes and so what I realized is like I don't sit and chill and watch shows anymore I I literally catch like 15 minutes of whatever he was watching and then I pass out like I just don't hang and watch tv ever like we watched the oh yeah the NCAA uh championship we did watch that go Purdue I think I don't know we were rooting for Purdue UConn won we were rooting for Purdue those guys are so fucking tall and when you hear how tall they are I'm like 7'4 or like 7 like they're so the two uh two what are they called forwards guard not guards posts we used to call them posts in uh high 3a high school basketball back when I went to high school posts i don't know whatever they're tall as fuck but like yeah like i'll catch like a sporting event
Starting point is 00:14:00 on tv i'll catch we'll watch movies here and there like on the weekends like on a sunday afternoon or something but i'm really not watching any tv no reality no bravo no nothing and what's funny is i listen to so many podcasts shout out i listen to the toast i love i'm a big time Jackie and Claudia fan and um I get my pop culture and all my reality tv updates through them but I have no clue like I don't watch the shows I just hear about the shows you know what I mean so um it's just like a life that I don't live and I and I wish I I wish I had I don't know more downtime to do that but I'm in the I'm in the bathroom doing my routines and I don't know why everything takes me so long everything takes me I don't know why I'm just a I'm a slow person
Starting point is 00:14:47 everything takes me hours hours even this podcast i'll be here for the next three watch this will be a two-hour episode watch it watch it happen so anyways i don't really know about the tv sphere what's happening there and i'm moving on we're playing this tiktok um going to the gym is really crazy because you will see like the same like coterie of people like every day like five or six days a week and something i've realized recently is like it's like people you see all the time but you're not speaking to them you're not actually interacting with them but on some subconscious level i have created personalities and backstories for all of them in a way that is like not active it's totally passive but it's very
Starting point is 00:15:30 real the other day there's this french guy who goes to my gym he was using a machine i needed to use and i noticed he was getting upright as i was walking towards it i was like oh perfect and so i went to use it and he was like hey buddy let me just wipe that down really quick because he's not French he's actually fully not French I made that up at some point and knew in my soul and he's not there's a guy and once I realized that I was like wait who else I've been doing this there's a guy I was like oh I just assumed you were a copywriter based on your face I actually you could be a cop I actually literally don't know it's so scary to sort of unpack like I've created an entire world that I place myself in someone I I think there's a guy who I kind of like low-key think is my
Starting point is 00:16:11 cousin he's not my cousin it's a lot to unlearn going so yeah I literally think about this every time I'm at the gym or like I notice it because you literally and I and I with Corey and I talk about this or like I mention it every now and then I'm like it's so wild how we're like so up in each other's ass every day like elbow to elbow using the machines like lifting dumbbells like next to each other on the benches and like we're just all around each other but we're so like in our own worlds with our headphones and our music and no one really the most you do is like acknowledge your existence if they're like walking past you or like ask if you can use the machine next and like it ends there you know what I mean like it's just obviously people hang and
Starting point is 00:17:01 socialize and like people know each other there and you do see that like people talking and I think that's great like I do that when Corey and I are working out together like we'll talk during our workout sometimes but it's so weird there's so many people you see every single day for like years sometimes and you don't even know anything about them but you you make up like you have identities for them in your head or you imagine their vibe or like their like personality or like what like especially in the locker rooms like I see the same girls all the time and I do know I i feel like i talked to a lot of them it's like at this point i've been at my gym for what a year and a half so i like you know obviously at this point i've like talked and like met people through
Starting point is 00:17:43 the locker room and but um there's a lot of people like that come and go and you're like i've no it's just like a they're like a character in your head um and then what was i gonna say um but i just think it's weird i'm like especially because it'd be like you go to school and you're sitting in a class all day with the same people or for like the hour class you have in the morning and you don't know any of them but you're all together you know it's just weird I just think I think about it a lot um but this reminds me of when I was in college and there was this guy at my gym who my the character I had in my head for him was he was a greek god and um sounds so dumb but like literally I had a crush on this guy for I'd say it the crush was like
Starting point is 00:18:36 the gym crush was like a three-month thing where every time I was at the gym he was at the gym we can't we went at the same time it was one of those everyone knows what this is you everyone has this everyone's been through it you know what that's like you go to the gym same time someone else does you know you don't talk you don't know who they are but like you think they're hot or whatever and they think you get like a vibe from them you know what I mean it's like one of those things a gym a gym crush like a typical gym crush well um this guy was like you know he was chiseled like a greek god like he was just like beautiful you have this like longish not long hair but like slick back dark hair and like this amazing jawline and great everything about him was like you know
Starting point is 00:19:18 like a kendall and um a greek kendall and i don't know why i thought of him as greek he just whatever. Anyways, this lasted like three months where it was like, you get those like things, the butterfly things. Like when you see them, you're like, Oh fuck, they're here. Oh my God. And it's just like, I feel like they're staring at me, but they're not like, they're literally, they don't give a fuck about you. And like this guy turns out, well, long story short, I, I don't know what kind of hoops I jumped through on Instagram at that time. This was like 2014 13 i don't know 15 a long time ago because i don't know what kind of searchability i guess it was similar i don't know what kind of hoops i jumped through um but somehow i found his
Starting point is 00:20:03 instagram i don't know i potentially searched the college gyms no that that would have been there would have been way too many followers i'm trying to think how the hell did i find them I think I was looking at like the frats he looked like he was in a frat maybe I saw something on his bag I don't I don't fucking I have no clue I don't um wait I don't fucking know um see how like clunky that is this is something you do in post-production if you're really trying to bleep something out you know what I mean you don't do it during the fucking show so somehow i found his instagram i dm'd him oh my god i wonder i bet it's still you know how like dms on instagram like they go back forever and um i don't even know what i said i was probably like
Starting point is 00:20:53 hey i think you're cute something like that i see you work out at my gym cool he was like i'm so flattered that's so nice of you i'm gay so for three months i'm like every time he rolled up in his honda accord his new honda i swear it was like was it the new honda accord at the time like when they changed the body style and it made it look or was it the civic i think no it was a civic it was a white honda i remember this so well it was a white honda civic three months and then he's like i'm gay and i'm like oh my god wonderful great thank you for closing this chapter of my in my mind this book in my mind um you never know that is why like don't let a gym crush last too long like figure out who they are and like find out quickly because that because then you might
Starting point is 00:21:32 be like hopeful about something and you find out oh they're not they're they're into guys they're not into girls and then I was looking at his pictures and I go oh this tracks like in his because I saw his profile and I was looking at his pictures and I was like yeah this is definitely him but then when he said I'm gay and then I looked at his photos I was like oh yeah okay I get it now cool um gay guys have the best that's the thing it they're so the there i have gay guys like they have the best but they take they take good fucking care of their bodies and shit and i i swear i probably had so many crushes on um like gay guys without realizing it because i don't know especially the ones that are really like under they're not super
Starting point is 00:22:18 like flam um yeah like flamboyant or you can't you can't really tell by the way they talk you know they're just they happen to be gay uh tim dylan oh my god literally i think this was back in 2020 yeah it was this was like tim dylan clubhouse days um 2020 peak pandemic i'm figuring out who he is for the first time i'm listening to his podcast i'm like tuning into his clubhouses with like was he trying to like he was talking about like crypto at the time with like fucking Bryce Hall and like or like I don't know the TikTok kids like does anyone I don't know if anyone remembers that I was watching his podcast I was like following him on social media and I was like I literally was like I think Tim Nolte's hot I think he's a hot man the reason I'm laughing is
Starting point is 00:23:10 because it's like because he's overweight am I being fat phobic right now oh my god I was like for a bigger guy I was like he's hot I thought he was hot and then I found out I don't know two months later and I wasn't this was something in the back of my mind I was like oh he's a good looking guy if that makes sense really good looking he happens to be oh you know a fat guy but like I think he's whatever and then I found out oh Tim Dillon's gay and that was such a mind fuck because he would never know like he's not very it doesn't he doesn't like read as a gay guy like when he talks and how he acts I don't know his just so is that a I don't know that's like a crazy thing to admit that I thought Tim Dillon was hot back in the pandemic until I mean
Starting point is 00:23:56 I think he's beautiful he's what is a beautiful beautiful blue eyes why am I talking about this is like not again the podcast but um because I still want to talk to you about the scam the backyard scam um okay let me okay and then we'll talk about should I just like speed you up about my job my mom I was facetiming my mom and she's like you got to talk about this you got to this is such a great like juicy story and interesting and um there's so many layers and like you could really probably help people and like I don't know um it's just the whole like corporate bullshit thing you know what I mean and it's it's like it's almost like at the end of the day I almost
Starting point is 00:24:46 don't want to even waste my breath about it because it's so like it's so it's such a like waste of my time to even give it and because it's like I don't care enough it's like it's so dumb that I'm like but I think it's like a juicy interesting like you know you'd probably take my side and be like yeah this is all fucking bullshit you know yeah you shouldn't you know whatever so so maybe I'll tell you I'll tell you that after the it's just the same stuff everyone deals with in the corporate world um it's definitely one of those like backstabbing situations bait and switch situations like departmental changes situations where you know everything gets turned upside down and then you have to like totally do something new
Starting point is 00:25:30 and like perform but you don't have any KPIs anymore and it's just like all fuzzy and confusing and every everything is like changing every day and you have new it's just a lot and um yeah but so speaking of okay another another news okay let me hold on I do have my once again i'm sitting on my heating pad sitting on my heating pad i'm overheating my plan is to get this get this out get this recorded and um shower and like do myself up a little bit before cory gets home for lunch so we can so i can like go to lunch and look decent and um yeah so sweat my dick off right now on this heating I'm like well I'll shower after so it's fine uh I got an SI joint SI joint problem right now like
Starting point is 00:26:26 I have a slightly shorter right leg and um a hip impingement on the right side that's been lasting for probably since December so I'm really trying to fix it and um sitting doesn't obviously help anything it's like so bad to sit um but sometimes it feels good to have the heating pad on it just like kind of soothes my low back and um cool all right so last weekend uh cory goes hey i'm this is the transition wait let me get into the transition music here we're gonna do uh last weekend we'll figure this out together okay like i i know it's like corny but um last weekend cory's like we went to the gym in the morning he's like hey by the way we're having a contractor come by and take he's going to take a look at the backyard and give us some
Starting point is 00:27:25 recommendations like at noon okay so the appointment was at noon i'm like cool you know i'm used to this like every week every day someone's coming by the house to work on the house to you know give us a quote on something it's like ever ever since we moved in like someone's here probably every other day. Um, so I'm like used to this. I'm like, great. Um, cool. You know, and I didn't ask any follow-up questions. I was just like, okay, well, and he goes, you know, I want you to like, obviously be involved in this and give your input on what we want to do back there. And so like, um, cause I planned on, I was going to do a deep clean on Sunday. Cause I told like, I've been talking about like getting my time back and being more efficient with my time.
Starting point is 00:28:07 And I literally was like, Corey, like we don't need the maids to come by anymore. Like I, I'm, I want to deep clean. Like I, I love, I love deep cleaning like the whole house. Like it's, it's so therapeutic. I enjoy it. Like it's actually something that I, I love like playing a podcast and like obviously wearing my headphones for like hours on end, cleaning the house, meal prepping, like getting the house all beautiful, lighting candles.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Like I love that shit. And I like doing it once a week, once a, actually no, we're doing it once a month. so we are being intentional about me not doing it too often because then I'll be like I should have been working on my podcast and I should have been doing this and that and I but you were cleaning inside like I'm not I don't do laundry every day I do it once a week now like we have I have to put the brakes on me cleaning like it's actually a it's been an issue because the time I should be working on the priority stuff I'm totally distracted and in spraying down like cabinets and windows and laundry and you know so um I do the dishes every
Starting point is 00:29:12 day that's like the thing that's a constant but everything else kind of gets pushed back for one day a week or the deep clean once a month so anyways I was like oh my god I'm telling you this because it's like the appointments at noon and uh I want you to be here and or meet with us so you can be involved and um I had planned a deep clean the whole afternoon so I was thinking okay we get go get home from the gym I shower and clean up and then I get into cleaning but I've got this appointment in between that so okay cool all right the guys show up now I want to preface by saying they were lovely they were lovely they will find their ideal client someone will, uh, they're out there. They, they said out of the three meetings they go to every
Starting point is 00:30:02 day, at least one person signs up. So they're fine. Um, or not signed up. I mean, it is one of those things where you felt like you were signing up for something, but, um, yeah, someone will, uh, do a contracting deal with them. So, um, but again, they were lovely, um, really nice, like genuine guys okay that's there's no issue there with them at all um so but okay they i i guess i just didn't know what we were getting into and neither did cory so i'm assuming okay the contractor the backyard um the landscaping contractor comes by the house he goes in the backyard we've had other people do this so i'm kind of used to what they do okay they come in the backyard and they um it's my mic a little hot tone it down a little bit there okay cool
Starting point is 00:30:55 um they scope it out they ask us questions like what were you planning on doing um what's your like dream back here what would you want to see like dream big tell me kind of everything you want what's your lifestyle like like what kind of things do you like that would be nice to have back here um budget um you know and then they would do their based on that they would measure things out um you know say oh we'll come back with a we'll draw this up and come back with a quote and you know we'll see if we want to work together so it's like a kind of a high buy thing it's like this you know it's like a yeah they're just coming by to check it out and you know give us a quote and dip so um this this appointment was a little different so they and again I had
Starting point is 00:31:45 no idea what was going to happen neither did Corey basically they show up shake your hands hi hi um immediately like start walking down our backyard now we have a big slopey backyard so we're trying to figure out how to make it functional um how we can level things out and make it flat so we can actually have like a a normal yard and um anyways they immediately like start walking down the yard and we were kind of talking like hey you know like um oh like this is my fiance jacqueline is how cory introduced me and um you know he's like oh congratulations when you're getting married and oh and we're telling him oh we just bought this house so and he was kind of relating to us like yeah you know i we had i had recently gotten married like i don't know
Starting point is 00:32:33 the last few years let's say and we bought a house too and i know how that can be and you know he's like on our level like hey this is a lot and then you're trying to do this backyard holy shit this is going to be a big you know big expensive year for you so they kind of like go in the backyard and everything's like normal at this point you know we're he's asking us like what um he was kind of sizing up our retaining wall we just had built like who the fuck did this and like he was kind of making it seem like they didn't do a good job or something i don't know um but I think it's we found out later it's because he doesn't like Keystone so I think it was because of that but um he was just kind of like staring around looking at things and kind
Starting point is 00:33:16 of assessing like what needs to be done and what he could do and um we were just kind of talking about ideas and uh the possibilities of our backyard so cool like that happened um and then we go up to the we go up on our deck and um he's he pulls out his phone and he shows us examples of his work and like what he's done and other in his clients backyards that have like a steep slope and he's showing us pictures and um cool you know and then we the at this point i feel like it's been an hour a good hour i'd say they were there maybe 45 minutes of this okay we're it's already like this is a long time they're here then we sit down to now we're at the table now we're at our back we're on the deck and we sit down at our patio table and um he like has this big briefcase
Starting point is 00:34:15 thing and his guy with him was just quiet the whole time playing with her dog super nice guy just he was i guess he was on he was in training you know just kind of there to observe this process and what what goes down and then it's like okay we're sitting there and he's drawing up kind of the the drawing of what we could because basically what we decided is like what's the priority what do we need the most right now we need a way to get down into our backyard so we need stairs so we're like okay if we just because we're like trying to do things in pieces and we already have a landscaper so like we don't need that we just want like the structure built in and then we want to fill in the corners so we need the stairs that's really why we need to hire him
Starting point is 00:35:03 is for stairs we've got and then he measured so then we decided that then he goes down and he measures and he goes okay you have 60 feet here 70 feet you need x y you need 58 stairs something like that i don't know they're measuring and they come back up and get out their um um, you know, the graph paper to start drawing, you know, what the stairs could look like and where we should put in a landing spot. And cool. So this is like, you know, we've decided we want stairs. And then it's like, Oh my God. Then at some point it's like, he pulls out a piece of paper and he asked, he's starting to ask, he's starting to ask us trivia questions about contractors and California laws. And like, uh, have you ever heard of this website where you
Starting point is 00:35:52 can look up your contractor and see what his license by his licensing number and to see if he's legit because most people don't know this. And then they're working with someone who's not actually a licensed landscaper, their general contractor. And so technically they can't do landscaping. And so it'd be like having a heart surgeon do dental work on you. And he was like, you know giving us these examples of like basically how to not get scammed and cory the thing is cory's in real estate he knows all this stuff like he's like okay okay okay cool i'm sitting there now it's been like an hour 10 i'm sitting there like okay this is starting to look like a spiel like a big thing um i used to work in timeshare sales i had a timeshare sales job
Starting point is 00:36:35 for a very short time but this is kind of how i was trained there's a lot of like storytelling a lot of like you're relating to them you're asking them questions and you're doing like the if I was to tell you that and I don't know it was one of those things so I was just like okay I see where this is going I'm like all right first of all I'm fresh out of the shower wet hair skincare on no hat I'm baking in the sun I don't know why I didn't get a hat and sunglasses but Like, I know I, I got a few wrinkles that day from just sitting out there in the hot sun, like going through this pitch. And, um, but, but, but, but I will include this.
Starting point is 00:37:16 I was sitting there and I was kind of getting like, what the fuck? Okay. Like, come on. Like, like what's, you know, how much is this going to cost? Like can we cut to the chase here? But I was like, you know what? First of all, it's not every day that you meet an immigrant because this man had immigrant. He was a immigrant from Israel.
Starting point is 00:37:31 He's Israeli. I think he moved less than 10 years ago. Like he's recently, he moved here. He kind of was talking about where it came from and how he didn't, he he's from a big family and he never had anything until he built, built his businesses. And I guess the U S when he moved and, you know, he was able to basically, basically level up his life and have a family. And he bought a house here and he loves San Diego. Anyways, it was like one of those things I was like, Oh, this is so wonderful you know and it's not every day you like meet someone like this who has a great story and instead of being short and like annoyed I was like no like this is interesting you know like
Starting point is 00:38:09 it's good it's good to like meet people and learn that's a thing when he was talking to me about looking up your contractor and their licensing number and all this I was like oh I never knew this this is good information for me to know so you know while I do want to go inside and you know pop a hard kombucha and start cleaning because like I like to have a little cocktail while I clean sometimes on the weekends well I do want to go listen to a podcast and probably the Tim Dillon show and clean the house you know and I want and I want to get to it because I've got like comforters to clean and a lot of laundry and you know I was like you know what it's not every day this you get to learn and meet someone you know from a different country so I was like
Starting point is 00:38:54 uh, cool. I'm in like, let's do this. So, uh, anyways, I'm just like, okay, cool. We're learning about the California laws, contractors, and he's asking us trivia. And then he goes at one point, he goes, okay, now I'm going to tell you who I am, you know, what I'm about and what this is going to cost or like, and what I can do for you and what it's going to cost. and at the end if we if you decide that you don't want to work with me wonderful we'll part way as friends if you do want to work with me we'll sign this today and we'll get going on and it was one of those things i was like all right okay so now we're we're we're locking in now i feel like i'm buying a car or like it's like a fucking i'm buying a timeshare at this point it's an hour and
Starting point is 00:39:48 half on a Sunday and I'm like it's just already way too long and I'm so like what did we what is going on I'm just so like what is going on and again super nice but it was just kind of a mind fuck like I didn't realize like this was a presentation type thing so then you know he's talking about his like quality of work and who he hires and I don't know it was like who I am what i'm about and he's like all about integrity and accountability and ethic being ethical is how he pays his um workers because you know blah blah blah blah all right now i'll cut to the chase now we're at let's just say we're at two hours now because it definitely was that we this was a two hour plus meeting um trying to think if there's any other like funny business funny things that
Starting point is 00:40:44 happened oh he has to go to the bathroom and his guy did and I was like okay I don't like when people go into our house like stranger like I'm just like not into that like that's how long they were there though my point is like they were there long enough to like need to go to the bathroom okay and that was just like a weird like like I don't know wasn't super stoked about that but um anyways then it's like okay I'm gonna drop draw this up or I'm gonna calculate material costs labor costs discounts because he goes oh you know if i if you sign up with me today it'll save you 15 so you know but if you don't then you basically have like 60 days to tell me if you want to work with me and then this will be closed so all right we're sitting there i'm twiddling my thumbs i'm
Starting point is 00:41:35 just kind of like you know watching him calculate stuff and write numbers on a piece of paper and um it's like materials labor whatever else and the totals right and it's just like all on piece of paper all right now i i have to like tell you this full circle story so i'm going to bring you up bring you in from that day to today all right okay he turned now think in your mind right now. Okay. If you were to build, now we were doing concrete, a concrete staircase in a backyard with like 50 steps. Think in your mind right now, what that would cost. Now, I don't know much about construction or contracting work or hiring contractors. I know that labor is like most of the cost so I get it but imagine in your mind like what that would cost to
Starting point is 00:42:38 uh to do in a backyard okay so Corey's thinking max in his head I know it I know what he's thinking I just without even asking him I know what his max is probably and like what he would assume the max would be in his head and I'm thinking my head with the max of me. And I think mine was probably a lot lower than his. I don't know. Anyways, he turns the paper around. Now, should I tell you the number without the 15% off discount or the number with the 15%? $74,000. seventy four thousand dollars he quoted us
Starting point is 00:43:30 for stairs in our to pour concrete stairs in our backyard seventy four thousand dollars now i again i don't know much about construction i don't know you know but i know i know that material costs are material costs like i know that's a thing right like they can't really finagle that because those are just like standard industry standards and cost rise and fall and they go up a lot because of um demand and supply and you know obviously like anything else um that's like a fixed thing they can't really scam you on or like inflate but i guess in this case i don't know how the fuck those stairs would have cost 70 because it's not like he was doing uh the landscaping and building out a gazebo and a
Starting point is 00:44:22 fire pit and a shed for our tool like it wasn't like that kind of thing it was like just stairs no handrail oh yeah and i asked i think when i was just like playing quite like playing i was like does this include the handrail like he's like no this is just stairs so i was like and then he pushes the paper you see the 74 000 and then he just pushes it and sits back and everyone knows like when you it's just like the salesy tactic thing Corey just immediately shut him down he's like this is way too much this is this is way too fun and and here's the thing I don't care how much money you have I don't care what you can afford I don't care that is an insane amount for stairs I don't and again I don't know much
Starting point is 00:45:08 about the industry I don't know we're not like this isn't some fucking I don't know Montecito or like a uh in San Diego here like we're not in like some 12 million dollar rancho Santa Fe like mansion where you have like the most beautiful steps with stones from Morocco and like it's not one of those things this is basic ass concrete that we're probably going to cover with cobblestones at some point because like I want it to look a little more like you know snazzy and a little less basic so literally you know what i mean so 74 000 for that are you fuck it was just such a like what is going on and again it was like two hours to find out that this is going to cost 74 000 cory's like he's like how he's like how much did you think it was going to cost and cory's
Starting point is 00:45:58 like at most like 20 grand 20 74 are you fucking kidding me so long story short let me speed you up to uh the present day without giving you actual numbers of what we're actually spending just know that um this is the thing of course he's gonna say this basically he's like if you work with anyone that does this for less than my price like they're cutting corners somewhere and they're they're lying to you and they're cutting corners and like if you get someone to do this for twenty thousand dollars like there's probably going to be you know like basically like they're going to be damaged in a year or there's going to be a hazard with the stuff like they're going to fall apart like if they do it for 20 like literally that's what he
Starting point is 00:46:50 straight face told us and I'm like what if we told you that we're literally the next week getting this done the same fucking thing done for should I like tell you how little it's actually costing or won't cory get mad at me because he probably doesn't want me to say like how just know it's like 300 times fucking less like this is the price of what it should be i mean it is so not that much it is like what if i told you it's way less than 10 grand way less than 10 grand way less than 10 grand and he quoted us seventy four thousand dollars that's a fucking college tuition that's an annual salary that is like that's a new car like it was just so like it was such a mindfuck and like i don't know it just goes to show you like yeah again great guy his his work's great
Starting point is 00:47:46 i looked at his his work and then i was looking at his reviews because i'm like who does he get like who get who what kind of clients does he have like what kind of people are like you know forking over this kind of cash and of course it's like fucking Barbara well even I'm a Yelp review like a Barbara you know what I mean like I just feel like it's older retired people that are like I need stairs my back here or like I need this done and they'll just like you know they don't know maybe they're not as educated or they don't push back or like know that you can I don't know if you're not educated on like what things cost and what things could cost and if you don't do your research and kind of understand the scope of
Starting point is 00:48:26 things like you'll get you'll pay way too fucking much with I feel like everything when it comes to housework and like renovations and landscaping and yeah so that was just a fun crazy turn of events and we laugh about it literally every day Corey since then every single day like we call each other and I and I'm just like well first of all it was actually $63,000 if we had signed up on that day with a 15% off discount so um yeah every day I'm like Corey $74,000 like we just look at each other and then we're laughing we're just looking at our backyard like they're building the fucking stairs for like nothing not nothing we are paying you know it's costing us but not that much not 75 grand 74 grand so and i i was telling him like we're literally gonna be like
Starting point is 00:49:18 i don't know in the middle of a grocery store or like on vacation we'll be in like the maldives and one of us will randomly look at the other person and just be like 74 000 or we'll be like we'll be like on vacation and we'll be like at a pyramid, like in Mexico, walking up the, I don't know if you can like, if tourists are allowed to like walking up the steps, like anytime we're on like steep steps, we'll be like 74,000. So yeah, that was, uh, that was our Sunday. Um, I did continue to clean and, uh, I just, I love, and that's the thing I was talking to my mom. Cause it's hard for me like I don't know I have like it's hard for me to watch people do manual labor especially especially in our backyard where like we don't have act we don't have the access is
Starting point is 00:50:12 really limited on like what you can bring in it like for machinery and trucks so they have to do a lot of things through buckets and wheelbarrows you know what I mean so I'm like watching them work and I was like facetiming my mom and I was like it's like hard for me to watch I don't know why I don't like going out there and just staring at them work. Like it bothers me. And like, they're literally out there right now, right now as I'm speaking. But, um, she goes, Jacqueline, she's like, remember who the fuck you are. And she's like, she's like, excuse me, remember who the fuck you are. Um, cause she's like, you did, she's like, you know what that's like, you know what it's like to uh take a bunch of after your mom edges the flower beds take a bunch
Starting point is 00:50:59 of grass and like grass patches and dirt and haul it in a wheelbarrow like 15 times back and forth on a Saturday like you know what that's like like you've like my entire childhood and I was asking Corey this last night at dinner because I come from a lifestyle of like working around a lot of farm animals and like farm stuff and like manual labor jobs and like just doing a lot of like landscaping stuff and like mowing the lawn and like garden work and I don't know gardening work and I feel like a lot of my childhood I had like dirty dirt under my fingernails and like dirty feet and I'm just like working you know and uh I was asking Corey because Corey like had he had a completely different type of childhood which is wonderful and he you know it's just like
Starting point is 00:51:56 a different thing like um I'm it's like we're both grateful for our upbringings and they both served us in different different ways and like they're they're just different not there's not like a good or a bad thing it's just like he had a different kind of blessing and I had a different kind of blessing if that makes sense and um i'm so like like honky-tonk fucking farm girl over here and like i i noticed that when we were in mammoth i'm like snowed in and he has it in him so it's like he hasn't done a lot of things before because he hasn't been put in a lot of like i don't know i've been just in a lot of situations where i have to like you know use a shovel and fucking i don't know what i'm saying but um he's like he'll grind with
Starting point is 00:52:48 me and like i just feel like i'm so it's in my dna where like for him it's like a new everything's like a new experience or something he hasn't done a ton if that makes sense like physical manual labor like work-wise you know like he's not he can do construction like he can do it all but it's not like his um bread and butter it's not like his you know lifestyle something he's like done a lot so but when I was when my mom said that she's like basically like remember who you are remember where you came from like this is like you know what that's like and it's like there's so something so rewarding about physical or manual labor like and I know if you're if that's your job you're doing every day maybe you don't feel that I don't know I don't know if they love their job or hate
Starting point is 00:53:34 their job but you can I'm projecting I'm like oh you know that sucks you have to like haul these heavy things and dig and build and I'm like maybe they're out there fucking enjoying it you know but um that's something I have struggled with for so long with working like it's especially when I first started working professional like jobs out of college for me to feel just because of how how I was raised work to me is like you're moving you're you're like hustling you're like using your body you're hauling two by fours to your dad who's gonna build a barn for your horse or like you're hauling um yeah like wheelbarrows full of shit you're lifting things to in the back of a truck that's getting hauled away to the dump you're like it's all like you're using your body
Starting point is 00:54:29 you're you're you know it's manually or you're doing housework like I was you know mopping the floors and cleaning the windows and deep cleaning the bathrooms like I'm just like working you know and so it was and when I did my first jobs were all like retail or I was doing like fast food like I'm making ice cream cones I'm you know I'm moving around while I work I'm cleaning off tables and then I go to retail and I'm folding clothes and I'm using my body more and then I go sit at a desk and then I'm staring at spreadsheets and then I'm staring at like emails and I'm just stationary and I'm staring at a screen and I'm like it's a totally different cadence and so that that that was a huge struggle for me to like do those first jobs out of college that were very
Starting point is 00:55:16 like professional corporate you know and I'm at the point now where I've done it long enough and I'm still doing it where it's like I don't it's just the way it is like I don't think about it too much but on a Sunday here's something that's so true I am happiest during my day not when I'm working because like it's just for me it's like I don't live to work I work till it's like I don't I'm happy it's obviously when I'm podcasting and I'm sitting and I'm stationary and I'm flapping my gums but when I go from the spreadsheets and the emails and my corporate job to like the kitchen or the bathroom and I'm cleaning or I'm like running an errand or I'm brushing the dogs or I'm you know I'm like watering the garden or I'm whatever that's when
Starting point is 00:56:00 I'm like happy I'm like happy I'm like doing something because I'm moving and I'm involved my body's involved and it's like you see like the before and after or like I don't know so um I don't see a lot of it's not mentally like rewarding to just complete a spreadsheet and then turn it in that doesn't satisfy me like cleaning a toilet so I'm just getting I don't know but um yeah like the manual labor thing growing up was like so ingrained to the point where that's kind of I think I don't think that will ever go away and um yeah so okay did I finished complete the complete the loop of the what's it called the stairs the seventy four thousand dollars a contractor scammy thing we went through yes i did and complete i fucked that up
Starting point is 00:56:57 okay that's like that segment's over we'll work on these sound effects at a later date um so should i just say going to work because here's the thing like people okay people like okay you have there's so many content creators you like watch on your phones like you're scrolling your social media and you're like oh this is a beautiful like outfit and she's a blogger and she has a amazon storefront and she's making tiktoks of her makeup and she's you know like maybe she got she's got a podcast or a YouTube channel or whatever but like you would never know that her actual like job that keeps the lights on her and maybe that also keeps lights on but like is a corporate job maybe it's fully
Starting point is 00:57:49 remote because it's like a better fit for like her social media jobs too so like and that's like so me right like a lot of people it's like they don't lead with like their job job they lead with their content creation and like them being a content creator and I feel like there's so many people out there that are that's their life and they don't really talk about it and I'm one of those people like I'm just starting to talk about it because like something that has occurred to me as a content creator as a podcast host is that corporate kills my creativity my brain does not fire like it used to when I first started this podcast when I that was when I first had my that was my first remote corporate it was a startup job it was kind of it wasn't corporate
Starting point is 00:58:35 yet that that wasn't a corporate vibe but um anyways my I feel like the corporate world if you're a creative person who's got like a podcast or you know you make tiktoks or content for social media that's like aesthetically pleasing and beautiful and you are creative like that um when you sit behind a desk all day and work your corporate job and then switch into that there's your mental capacity for creation is so squashed and that if you do that every single day five days a week like over time it's like calcifying your brain and you're just like turning into this drone and this like like corporate yeah like robot and that I feel like has happened to me and it's been a huge behind the scenes struggle because a lot of the times
Starting point is 00:59:31 I'm like I've been talking Corey and I talk about my podcast literally every day it's like such a huge part of our relationship and he knows like this is my thing and he's like my biggest supporter and um it's wild to like think back to where I started and that kind of energy I had and that kind of creativity and out of the box thinking and I was quick I was like so much quicker and like I feel like I was funnier and just like more carefree and I maybe it's a I always say this maybe it's a maturity thing maybe it's because I'm older now and I'm more like serious I don't know like I'm settling down and I'm getting married like I don't know but I my brain like it it loves to feel that kind of freedom that mental freedom and creativity all the time where it's like I can
Starting point is 01:00:18 And I don't like what I used to do is I was very, um, throughout the week and while I podcast is seven days a week, but when it went to a weekly show, like throughout the week, I would note different things that I would observe in my life and in the world. And, um, you know, when I was out and about like at a restaurant or at the gym or whatever, and I would reference that and I would talk about it in my podcast and I'd always have some sort of like jackass creative spin on it, some sort of like bit about it. And it was like this fun thing I always did. I had notes going on all week. I had like, I was writing them down and I, it was a,
Starting point is 01:00:53 and it's like, Oh, Jacqueline, we'll just keep up that habit. Like keep doing it. But, but, but, but I just don't notice things like that anymore. It's weird. Like I have to, I don't, I'm not that, I'm not quick like that anymore. It's like, I I'm like, what the fuck? I just don't. That makes sense. It's like, that's kind of dwindled and wilted a little bit or a lot of it. and sometimes my podcast gets all serious like I know we're talking like a serious topic topic right now but like sometimes I'm like damn it what is this it's like obviously the show needs to evolve and grow and change and you know you don't want your show to be the same thing forever like you it's going to grow with you and so what I think's happened is like okay I went into the
Starting point is 01:01:37 corporate world fully remote corporate job world and continuing my podcast and what you kind of I think the arc is like my penile gland. Fuck it. No, what's it called? It's not the thing that solidifies when you're 25 or something. My, um,
Starting point is 01:01:54 is that a genital reference? Penile gland. What is your penile gland? Penile gland. It's the, uh, helps to control the circadian circadian cycle of sleep and wakefulness
Starting point is 01:02:16 by secreting melatonin okay so it has to do with your sleep um but yeah i just feel like my brain creative side has been you know that gland that fucking creativity corner of my brain has been kind of uh calloused and i don't like it i don't like it and it's not good for me because that's not that doesn't make me happy and I it's like I was talking to my therapist and she's like you have to schedule in like because of the way your brain is like you need you require it you need to schedule in creativity time like every day even if you're not going to do a podcast even if you're not going to make something like a creative thing on social media or whatever you do she's like she's like it could be as simple as like putting your makeup on like you need to make
Starting point is 01:03:05 sure you get your creativity it needs to come out every single day you got it you got to squeeze that because and tend to it because this is what's gonna you're just gonna continue this like death of your mind of your creative mind and it's again I know I know I know I'm not the only one that's what I'm talking about I think so many people can relate to this where they're like I'm a creative person and I have this corporate job and I'll do all I do all day stare at spreadsheets and I just feel like I'm dying inside and it's like yeah because you are because you're fucking not built for that and this is this isn't the part of the podcast where I'm like oh this is gonna get me fired because I'm sure I work with a lot of creatives that feel the same way at my
Starting point is 01:03:44 company and you know like they're sucking it up too so um again it's relatable it's talked about I feel like a lot or I don't know if it's talked about a lot but uh yeah corporate kills creativity i wonder if that's a google search like a an uh what's it called a study corporate kills i just like the ring of that corporate kills creativity creativity creativity how to kill creativity harvard harvard business review organizations routinely kill creativity with fake deadlines and impossible tight ones the former
Starting point is 01:04:28 many times corporate culture tends to kill creativity and it discourages someone from being the unique person they are corporate culture is killing our creativity this is an article last summer here I like read it why does corporate
Starting point is 01:04:50 culture kill creativity passion connection to connection to customers I'm thinking specifically a cable law um there's a book I guess called creative people must be stopped by David A. Owens anyways just speaking from my own experience it's like something that you have to manage and you have to be on top of because you'll end up like me where you're like okay i've been podcasting for three years and like eight months now and you're like what the fuck has happened to me like what what the fuck has happened to me like i no it's not like i don't
Starting point is 01:05:36 know who i am anymore i just don't feel fun anymore i don't feel creative anymore i don't feel like that side of my brain lights up like it used to do i need to do mushrooms do i need to fucking do I need I feel like I'm due for like a I need to dude where's that guy that gave me DMT that one time on our first date I think he's married with a wife and kid now so I actually did look him up and he unblocked me because I swear he blocked me after we broke up from that like literal two-week relationship but um shout out to you because that was so crazy and um i can't believe that was the first date thing we did together that was my i've told the story before this is like the old og kind of side of me where i would like go i would decide to become
Starting point is 01:06:25 unhinged and talk about my you know experiences and in that episode wherever it lives i have no clue um in the past i'm assuming like 2021 maybe i told a story about doing seven drugs on my first date with a man that i met on hinge and um seven drugs in one night and it wasn't like uh oh my god like fuck why did i just see now i'm like did i want to say that like it was wild because like literally it ended with dmt twice and um that was so like i'm so grateful for that experience because i will never forget it for the rest of my life and that literally was like speaking of glands in your brain that shit fucking it oh i have never seen anything like it it was the most incredible experience i've ever had spiritually like mentally i don't know like whatever that
Starting point is 01:07:24 realm is like i totally went there and i saw it and i was looking at the gesture laughing at me and shit and i saw the i mean his entire face and the the entire room around me turned into like a living bark with like neon color it was just like one of those things like look up google images of what dmt looks like like literally that's what it looks like and that's what you like see so but i don't know if i'm do i haven't done i haven't i haven't gotten stoned in over a year i don't i'm just like dude i gotta wake my brain up i gotta do and that's the thing i like what my therapist said like do something creative every day big or small like schedule it in make sure you're getting it done and so like the other night for example cory and i went out for italian
Starting point is 01:08:09 and it's like our it's our thing we are my top restaurant choice okay i always pick my number one and this ebbs and flows italian or steakhouse i love a steakhouse dinner a full-on like you're getting the nice glass of red wine you're getting beautiful uh you know cuts of bread and butter with fucking sprinkled smoky salt on top or something like a champagne butter and you're doing the bread and you're doing the maybe the grilled artichoke oh the octopus or something a little uh little starter salad and then you're going full meat and potatoes followed by a beautiful dessert and you're four or five glasses of wine deep at that point by the end of it and you're like so full and you're just like I love life and I'm so happy right now I love a steakhouse
Starting point is 01:09:04 dinner I love I think my favorite so far in San Diego is Island Prime oh Manhattan's in La Jolla is really good if you're down in San Diego those are my top right now but see Eddie V's is a classic okay you know that we all know Eddie V's um there's there's a few there's a few but uh Fleming's is it Fleming's is decent um but I love steakhouse dinner and I love an Italian dinner a full-on Italian dinner where you're eating everything like you're not trying to be skinny at all you're not trying you don't care you're just like I'm eating pasta pizza fried calamari I'm eating bread I'm eating cheese I'm eating spumoni after I'm eating the tiramisu I'm drinking the wine like okay those are my top two and the ebb and flow I but I think my favorite is Italian
Starting point is 01:09:58 so anyways Italian steakhouse sushi Mexican that's kind of the flow I never go for the gastropub let's have a burger and fries fucking vibe I don't do that every now and then we'll do it but it's not like oh i'm dying for a burger right now ever um so anyways back to the story lost my train of thought talking about creativity i was talking about food i was talking about oh the other day the other night i'm getting ready to go to this italian restaurant and i had my makeup on from the day and typically i touch it up and i just add a little more concealer touch up my lips and i go it's like two seconds right but I was like you know what Cory's taking a shower I have time
Starting point is 01:10:45 already put on I already put on my new outfit that Cory bought me last week and shout out that was so nice um he took me on a little shopping spree spontaneous surprise just because like let's get you some clothes that was really nice um and put on my outfit and I'm like you know what I'm going to go in with my makeup tonight and I'm going to do it. I'm going to like push, pump it up. I'm going to pump it up. And it was so Zen. I was like doing my, cause I like never do that anymore. I'm like, I can't tell you the last time I did a full beat of makeup, you know, like that's important that I like do, I maintain that and I do that more often. And so yeah, all these little things are like dying down. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. Like, remember who you
Starting point is 01:11:28 are remember where you came from like not only did you load wheelbarrows full of uh dirt and mud and grass and sticks and growing up not only did that's who you are like you wear a full face of makeup regularly and you put on those lashes and you like you know what i mean like you glam up like that's part of who you are and it's like you're creative come on like get it together it's like literally get it together um it's like doing the things that make you happy you know you got to maintain that and but yeah corporate kills creativity prove me wrong um it's soul-sucking and i gotta figure this out because like literally um i'm in the night i'm on thin ice right now should i get into that is this part that's gonna get me fired i'm literally
Starting point is 01:12:14 like dude day like tiktok series part one of me talking about my corporate job until they fire me part two of me talking about my corporate job every day until they fire me part three of me talked about it's just like again I said this in the beginning it's so nothing but they made it seem like it was such a big deal you know what I mean it was like oh I'm on the hot seat okay let me just tell you what happened without you know defaming the company by using I'm not going to say names I'm not going to say specifics um nothing like that okay but essentially back in early feb we uh we got like a new director hired and he was having us kind of stop everything we were doing and we were like doing immediately doing a project for him he got fired the next
Starting point is 01:13:07 week okay so we lost like a week of work and a lot of what i do requires um maintaining relationships pitching people following up getting on calls like you're massaging relationships that's what I do it's a constant at my at my job and so like for that week it basically went to zero because we had to do this project which is fine because typically we have projects on the side that we're working on so I'm used to that but this is one of those all hands on deck stop everything you're doing situations all right he's fired in a week um a week later the top manager of my department who's been there for I don't know like 25 years gets fired okay this is a new segment way i gotta do this hold on fucking hell the volume talking about my corporate job and hoping
Starting point is 01:13:59 they don't fire me segment we'll work on that so we're just and honestly like the morale is so low and like my co-worker i started with quit literally last week and he's actually moving to San Diego so shout out like we got to meet up because I know we'll probably talk about this situation because it's not fun um just like you know how that is ever and everyone's been here everyone knows like what it's like to work for a company and everything's fucking bullshit and you're just like burnout and you're annoyed and you're like confused and you can't keep up with the new changes and you're just like exhausted and you just like you're you're like oh you know I just got to ride this out right so the top manager it's like my boss's boss's boss whatever
Starting point is 01:14:45 he gets fired in a week two people are fired and I'm sure this is when my co-worker started looking for a new job because he's like oh shit I see where this is going I'm next so like basically they hire someone else or someone that had been there for she's a new person but she was appointed the new director of what our department is so you know she got moved to us and literally it was like first off you're not getting a review for 2023 so fuck off like usually we get a review early in the new year like you're not getting reviewed that's the first thing they tell us and then they go all of your kpis key performance indicators if you're not familiar those are the things like when you when you get hired for a company and you go to work
Starting point is 01:15:37 Those are the little measurable goals you have monthly, quarterly, yearly that they can track your progress on and they can kind of keep track of where you're at and how you're doing. So those are KPIs, right? They're very clear. They're very specific. When you go to work every day, you know that the task you're working on contributes to that kpi and you're constantly working towards you know like meeting all your kpi goals right
Starting point is 01:16:11 that's just the flow of and that's what i was when i was hired like that's what you you know that's what that's what we did basically okay two people get fired a new person comes on as our director and then they're like all the kpis that you have are gone bye you don't do those anymore all those relationships you were working on those calls you were scheduling those people you're in contact with like bye like you don't do that anymore like they're they're stopped right now those don't matter no review no more KPIs do this competitive analysis project cool so I'm like all right I get it we're trying to like assess our department and come up with data on it so we are like mine all the data on what we do and blah blah blah so we can like readjust
Starting point is 01:17:05 and relay the foundation so we can start off from a better place moving forward so like intermittently you're going to do this analysis project and collect all this data so you can like basically do your job better and get better results so I'm like I get it okay it's like quality work instead of quantity you're not chasing numbers now you're chasing okay cool so literally it's basically like mumbo jumbo so many email threads chains people just going back and forth about i don't know what for like three weeks but or like for the first two weeks of this and eventually i think there was like a due date on it it was like early march or like yeah i think it was i don't know what's the date today yeah and this is interesting are you hi are
Starting point is 01:17:56 you here we're talking about corporate bullshit right now because i just need to like vent and i want to tell you about my life and this is my life right now and this is what's going on so uh at some point it's like a date is put down of like when to get this done by i'm like okay um so in my head i'm like okay all i have my only responsibility right now is this project that's it everything else is like i i'm not being paid to do this right now or it's not part of my goals right now uh i won't be they won't measure me on those old kpis so like i don't need to do them right so like cool i'm just doing this project i'm just working on this and we're all pulling our heads together and long story short the communication just sucks and it's just so
Starting point is 01:18:49 vague and it's so like the email that was sent to us about our quote-unquote new KPIs now they have to be specific measurable and like realistic and quantifiable like you have to put numbers with like you have to have something you have to have a goal post you have to understand the clear like task and the goal and the if it's a certain number every month you have to get like it's it's right there in front of you and it's easy to understand but what we were sent was quote unquote our new kpis the document was titled new kpis like 2024 for like march or whatever and the entire document was titled like the competitive competitive analysis like assignment so it wasn't a kpi sheet with new kpis it was a it was a an assignment brief
Starting point is 01:19:40 it was an assignment brief okay so i'm like all right so we really didn't get new kpis we're just supposed to work on this assignment okay i got it whatever the title of the document wasn't it was unclear with what you had put in the document does that make sense so and i didn't catch this at first i'm just like okay this is the proposal or this is the assignment brief for the project cool now when I tell you the next group meetings we had like weekly meetings when we talked about this proposal we spent the entire hour going through each bullet point together like as a group we're like there's only a handful of us my on my team so it's like you know just one of those things we're like a little team we're going through each bullet point
Starting point is 01:20:25 and they're so theoretical conceptual vague non-specific and we're like trying to come up with what each one means and like what kind of research we should do for each one and we're like not getting anywhere we're just coming up with ideas ourselves and we're like making it up basically because it's so like this whole simon brief is so yeah conceptual vague like like nothing specific no examples or like I it was just so confusing and long story short I end the meeting by saying like we basically just wasted an hour of our lives like we need to have her send specific examples of what she wants because we're making it up and so we're going to turn in this proposal or we're going to do this proposal in front of her and because each
Starting point is 01:21:10 of us are tasked to do that at the end of the assignment and she's probably not going to get what she wants because we're not clear on what she even wants in the first place but by the way she by these uh you know because of these vague bullet points here so we're all just like okay well what the fuck we just we're just like yeah good point i'll ask her so then i'm not my manager is like okay yeah i'll get clarity let's get clarity i'll ask her like let's see if we can get some examples blah blah obviously none of this happens okay the assignment brief is the assignment brief the whole time we're all working off those vague bullet points and some of them are easy ish to understand some of them aren't and blah blah blah time goes on
Starting point is 01:21:56 we're mining data we're looking things up we're researching we're getting our analysis projects put together each of us individually and there's like a date that it's due and then a date you'll meet and do the proposal with her so okay um and something to note here is that i'm being told the entire time that okay you're semi-new to the company you have fresh eyes like think outside the box go above and above and beyond um you know even if it's like not super realistic like basically dream big dream big for the company come up with a proposal based on the analysis you find like that would you know that's big and bold basically so I'm like great I like doing that I like to dream big and think big. And I've worked for a lot of startup companies with crazy CEOs
Starting point is 01:22:48 that have all these big dreams and big ideas. Like I know how they think, like I'll apply that thinking to this project, you know? So that's what I'm told to do by my manager. So I'm like, all right, keeping that in mind while I do this. Basically speed up to like the day before this is due. We have a channel, a Slack channel for our whole team, global team. And everyone's like, do we do a powerpoint are we working off a word document here when we do our proposal like what are we doing like what does she want mind you she's on this thread she could probably read all this isn't responding to any of it no one knows anything everyone's just like going off of this brief this assignment brief and basing their proposal off of what whatever's in that and
Starting point is 01:23:33 I'm a stickler all right first of all I'm like not gonna do a backflip in a cartwheel and go crazy and go above and beyond especially when for something like this where it's like it's so unclear I'm just gonna do exactly what it says you know what I mean like whatever you put in your your brief of what you want from us I'll just respond to each one and based on what it's asking or what you, you know, the concept of it. So I'm sure my colleagues were like sweating their dick off and like, Oh yeah, I shouldn't have said that when I'm talking about my company. Um, I, and they were probably like, I don't know, go and create, I don't know what they were doing. I don't, I didn't see their site, their proposals, but basically mine was very
Starting point is 01:24:27 to the point okay exactly what she asked for I gave a response and a response accordingly to each question each section of the the assignment brief all right uh schedule a call for the proposal it's my time to shine I you know meet with her and it's wonderful I'm like fuck because at first I was like this was such a confusing pile of nonsense for so long and my manager has been like what the fuck i can't get any answers out of her like she says it's clear and i'm saying and we're all confused and she keeps telling me oh it's clear it's clear it's clear i don't get what the confusion is so the tone has just been like this is so annoying we're being stopped we're not being not only reviewed we're not doing our old kpis anymore
Starting point is 01:25:13 we're basically mining data and doing analysis now for like a month and should i include that I'm grateful that I'm even in a position to complain about this because if I do get fired, like I'll be fine. I'll be fine. Okay. Like plenty of privilege or like, what's that fucking TikTok or like, like announce your privilege. Oh my God. I had to get on a DEI meeting. Oh my God. Should I bitch about that too? And someone had said they noticed their whiteness when they lived in Hawaii because of the Islanders or something. I don't, it was, I don't know. You know how I feel about. Maybe you don't know how I feel about the DEI programs out there, but, um, maybe they will fire me cause I'm white and they're not meeting their colored people, their other non other races
Starting point is 01:26:04 besides white numbers. And they have to put a different race inside my position. I don't know. Um, maybe, I don't know. Maybe that's what's going on behind the scenes of all this. I'm not even to the point I'm not even to the crazy call I had the ambush call so on the day of the call with my the director you know it's like a 30-minute call and I do the proposal and it's wonderful and she's asking me questions and I'm giving her answers and we're having conversations and I'm explaining my what I found and it's like really conversational and not really like serious like doing this proposal and I'm going through each thing and it's all no it was great I ended the call like letting everyone know my team like hey that went really well like you know it was great
Starting point is 01:26:49 and my co-worker said the same thing she's like yeah I had a great call with her too and everything is like wonderful and I felt great after and um now I do want to note this okay I was asked by my manager the day before hey you know or the morning of the morning of like hey just if if you want to do a walkthrough with me um just if you want to do a walkthrough with me of your proposal before you do it with her like just you know I'm available if you want to do that and I said no I got it handled I feel confident you know at that time I was like I know what I'm doing like I I don't need to like walk through this like it's I got it you know I was feeling confident about my proposal even though the whole thing was vague and like confusing at first like I was like what I put
Starting point is 01:27:36 down here I can talk about I can read upon each thing and give her you know I can fill her in fine no issues so uh cool so the proposal went well um I don't know like now proposal's done we kind of have like a spreadsheet that we went back to that we had to like clean up and work on so I was like okay that's what I'm that's my daily flow now I'm working on that after that assignment's done it's like hey it's done i did the proposal now i'm going back into like spreadsheets and worky work stuff like you know getting back on the grind um still don't have new kpis i'm just like tasked with actually at this point we were coming up with ideas of what we should work on that's the truth we were like oh well moving forward it seems like we're going
Starting point is 01:28:28 to need to do this so we should work on this it seems like this is where it's heading so we should get on top of it now but it wasn't like clear you know what I mean we were kind of coming up with it how to stay busy how to look like you're you know it's like literally like what okay we were just told to do this assignment you don't have any KPIs anymore and it's like now what you know it's kind of like twiddle your thumbs no you have to like do something I guess so we were just kind of like coming up with what to do um until we sort of finally got KPIs and this was like i got these i'm trying to remember the timing of it all but long story short i don't know a week after my proposal with my director
Starting point is 01:29:12 i don't know was this like a thursday okay i was kind of having a breakdown with cory that morning about my job and just like so how i was just so like what the fuck you know and it was just funny and then like that day or like the day before my co-worker announced he was that was his last week and I was like oh my god that's crazy um he's out which I I just assumed like oh and by the way like other people had left in the in that month like a few people besides the ones that got fired or let go excuse me um so yeah he was out the next day it was like 3 30 in the afternoon my or like 3 20 in the afternoon let's say I get it I get a slack like hey can you meet in 10
Starting point is 01:30:03 minutes um for for uh touch base you know like hey and I'm like sure of course like okay send me a zoom invite cool all right I get on this call uh is this like really long I hope you're locked in right now because I'm fucking locked into this story because I'm trying to remember it and I like telling this I like telling stories what is my true calling story storytelling podcasting storytelling love it here for it okay so 3 20 a.m um or p.m stay with me if you're falling asleep um yeah I get the zoom invite like can you meet in 10 minutes great I'm like cool i get on the the zoom i enter the room or whatever what do you call it you enter the meeting launch the meeting i launched the meeting okay my face pops up
Starting point is 01:31:05 an hr lady's face pops up the director that i did a proposal in front of her face pops up my boss's face pops up now just me being me I go oh okay that's literally what I said oh okay oh oh okay okay what's going on here I said that like so like you know just like in that in that tone like because I'm like oh shit I'm on the hot seat like what's going on like I thought this was my um a touch base meeting with my manager and now I'm being ambushed by everyone and it's got the HR lady here and I know what this is about maybe I don't know am I getting fired I don't fucking know and it's very somber and serious I know Jacqueline you're here today because of your performance and we have this document we're gonna read your manager's gonna go through it and we're
Starting point is 01:32:04 going to discuss your performance and what we'd like to see because the goal of today's call is to get clarity and be on the same page about where you're at so we can you know basically help you move forward in a positive direction and do your job better blah blah blah okay the document is a I don't know four to five page breakdown of my performance or my lack of I guess poor performance on the mostly about I guess the main thing was about the proposal the yeah the proposal was all about like hey like literally they held things against me in that okay and I popped off I didn't get to the point I'll maybe I'll touch on that I will touch on that
Starting point is 01:33:03 but it was one of those bait and switch things and backstabbing things where my manager was like go above and beyond and you know include things that are outside the box then and like for example one thing i included was like there's an international journalism conference in italy and in one of the segments or one of the sections of the proposal where we talk about like how could we incorporate ourselves into the physical world because we're all remote of the media and journalists and you know how where can where can we go you know what conferences can we attend to enrich our or bring you know brand awareness and increase our visibility and our own like individual knowledge of the industry and like where should we go to do you know so
Starting point is 01:33:51 include examples of conferences in 2024 and beyond okay cool so like literally I'm like never been to a conference with this company I don't know what the budget is um not trying to be like ignorant but I was again told think outside the box like you know include like it all or like even if it doesn't seem even if it's like okay whatever I included Italy I included Italy in the document about my poor performance that was detailed like as it because it was um like not realistic or i like basically shame on you for saying we should fly to italy to the international and again i'm like okay let's think above and beyond like what's like the highest top tier shit we could do go to fucking italy to an international journalism conference how cool and mind you we have a
Starting point is 01:34:43 global team it's not like we're all based in the u.s so and i did include an option for the u.s and there weren't a lot of options to begin with okay that's something to note in this industry like there's certain sure we could have gone to south by southwest but at that point it already happened like there's a lot of you know u.s based conferences and things but anyways they used that against me in the in this document and it was like something like I shouldn't have done same with like um I included like a list media people and journal journalists in my proposal I was told be realistic oh like basically what the fuck that's unrealistic you're not like not and and the Italy thing when I was literally working on my proposal with my manager and I was
Starting point is 01:35:37 showing her these conferences abroad and like i don't know there's one in maybe denmark um as well like in europe she was like on her head like oh yeah yeah like it wasn't it wasn't there was no pushback it was all like yeah like include yeah these are going to include these are good to include so and i know she's protecting her ass and her job because you know that everyone is and so she probably got heat from the director and now she's gotta act like okay yeah she it was crazy because she's reading this all to me and i'm like i can't believe you're saying this right now because you were approving all these things so that was an example there was also a big thing that happened in our industry middle of this assignment maybe like towards the end of it
Starting point is 01:36:16 big thing happened in our industry that shook shit up with the ap and um i was basically it was basically like in the document like yeah that would have been nice for you to include because i had told you about it uh before you know you that's something that would have been nice to include in your proposal but you chose not to so because of that like basically there this whole thing was like if you don't get your shit together like you're basically like gonna be terminated or like potential term you know it's one of those things and then like another one oh my god the craziest one was like um because you didn't want to do a walkthrough of your proposal with your manager like um that was bad too because I was a confident employee
Starting point is 01:37:06 who said I got it that was used against me um there was also a term that they said on my proposal I used incorrectly or I didn't get right or something like that something within our department in a term we use and what's so funny is I when I was pushing back and flapping my gums and i'll get into that part because it's it's really important that i say what i said to them um or i feel like it's important this shit doesn't matter period it doesn't okay none of this matters it's a waste of my breath it's a waste of my time but we've this is a good like story of what it's like to work in the corporate world and get stabbed in the back and kind of yeah blindsided and it goes to show you how like you're just you're so
Starting point is 01:37:53 replaceable you're so like unimportant to the company like it's just dumb shit so and it's a story it's interesting it's got layers so we're doing it um there was a term that they were like trying to catch me on or something in this document and um I when I had pushed back and flapped my gums I was basically like um this term has always been related to x y and z I've never heard it in the context of ABC. So I don't know when that changed, but this is how I was trained and this is what I've known. And the context of this term, blah, blah, blah. It was basically like, it's all, it's all bullshit. Okay. What's so funny is that I recently got new KPIs officially, not for the whole year, just for April. And they changed the term related to this
Starting point is 01:38:49 thing I just without saying what it is I don't want to you wouldn't understand it's within my department like how we talk but I'm like what the fuck because the original term they had it's so it's so dumb so yeah those are like the detail there's other stuff like um yeah it's basically like you were too unrealistic and you should have done a walkthrough with your manager before you did it but you chose it was so dumb it's all i'm like this is all nonsense this is all like it's such a reach all of it was such a reach oh you said you wanted to send us to italy oh shame on you like come on so all right let me just tell you how i handle this i am my mother's daughter uh first and foremost i come from a my mom is a
Starting point is 01:39:48 former she's not in this world anymore executive and she's still oh i thought the doggy's barking she was always in a man's role always a the director of whatever she's doing always the head honcho you know that was my mom just total like boss babe in the era of women going to work and putting on suits next to men for the first time like that was my mom and she killed it and i watched her work i watched her you know stand up for herself many times because there was a lot of discrimination when she was a the dogs are barking i don't know if you can hear that hey um is it cory is he home fuck you gotta go to lunch so literally i start seeing she's like reading down the document i'm already seeing okay this is
Starting point is 01:40:37 bullshit this is bullshit in my head i'm like logging clocking all this okay and i just basically stop the conversation and i say i'm like pushing back on whatever she had just said and i'm like whoa what's going on like um and oh you're home i'm talking about what happened with work i'm talking about what happened with work i'm podcasting no are you gonna be inside or outside you're gonna look okay he's gonna go look at her steps okay fine we can podcast he's heard this story probably 10 times like or he's he knows about it doesn't matter um am I gonna be like do I have stage fright right now no I don't um okay so I
Starting point is 01:41:27 like basically was like I cut him off and I was like you know I pushed back on whatever she just said and I'm like no that's not you know I was just like heated immediately and whatever I was saying I don't remember specifically but the HR lady was like Jacqueline Jacqueline I appreciate you sharing your thoughts however you need to get your manager is going to continue complete reading she's going to finish reading the document and then you have an opportunity after we send this to you in your email to rebuttal and share your thoughts with us via email and I was like oh no like I basically was like um look we have a 30 minute time block here for this meeting and don't treat me like a robot like no because first of all we're all there's
Starting point is 01:42:23 four i said there's four professional adult women here in this zoom who have all worked in person before and sat across from each other in meetings like this or put it i don't i'm like butchering this because cory's home and the dogs are walking everywhere and I'm like should I end the podcast because now I'm like I'm getting flustered can you tell basically I was like you're gonna give me hold on okay we're back I was getting all heated because I'm talking about the story that's making me heated and then like Louie's little paws are crackling around the floor and there's like people in the house and the lighting guy and I don't know so let me get back into it I was literally like look this letter is already
Starting point is 01:43:09 wasting my time because this doesn't reflect the conversations i've had with my manager and you i'm not gonna say your name the director um so i'm not really sure what's going on and uh number two you're gonna give me the floor for five minutes because we've got a 30 minute time block here and i'm not a robot okay i would like the ability to discuss this like a human being with the rest of you here because like I said we've all been in in the environment of a workplace before where this conversation we all know would be happening across a table where we would be openly discussing it so no I'm not going to sit and listen to the rest of the letter and write my rebuttal in an email okay we're going to talk about it so I literally motor mouthed for a good
Starting point is 01:43:59 five minutes I really did and they were silent shout out they were really nice and quiet like I wanted them to be and um then my director pushed back to what I said and she goes god and I wanted to say like to my manager like I don't understand any of this or whatever because um this makes or like I can't believe you're you're uh saying this right now because I've heard nothing but negative things about the director's name uh come out of your mouth over the last few weeks so what the fuck basically and um i also wanted to say when my director was like you're a x y and z saying my title of my position you're a she repeated like you're a this is what you do like you're a you're supposed to know all of this stuff like the thing is about a corporate
Starting point is 01:44:51 job is look you get hired they give you a salary you agree on that salary and then you have a manager who i'm a cog in the wheel that's the type of job i have just straight up that's what i do a lot of people have jobs like that they're they know what they're getting into it's a you go to work you complete tasks repeat rinse repeat it's very much like there's not a lot of um rubbing elbows with the board of directors and talking to your team and like it's this fluid you know i'm part of this organization and I'm on calls with people that in my company about what we're doing and no I'm not that high up I'm literally like spreadsheets emails you know outreach blah blah so which is fine that's what I wanted that's what I signed up for because I that's how I
Starting point is 01:45:42 that's what I have the capacity to do I don't do well with uh fuck it sounds like I could I'm honestly i'm so above this shit but uh and it's gonna get me fired we're letting it all hang out today so um i'm like selling myself short you know what i mean that's how i feel like i that's where i feel like i'm at in life right now like i'm so over over this corporate what am i saying i'm this is what i'm doing right now talking to you is what i should be doing period that's what i'm cut out for us, what I should be doing. It shouldn't be like, I should not be crying about a spreadsheet, you know, but you know, I, it's a, I'm a realist. I understand the way it's like
Starting point is 01:46:31 for my own. Uh, and I used to say this and I don't think I believe in this now. It's not something that's really important to me now. I used to say when I had this podcast, I like having a corporate job or I like having a day job because it makes me feel like I'm actually plugged into the world. and actually like contributing to society and I'm actually like I'm not just some you know content creator fucking off for fun every day fucking fucking off for fun every day and just dicking around so it felt good to have a steady paycheck and a corporate job and like that kind of rhythm and health care and benefits and all that stuff because it was like it made me feel like, Ooh, I'm not just a, I'm not just a podcast host. Who's just
Starting point is 01:47:18 blabbing her gums every day. You know what I mean? So that's definitely changed. Now it's like, I got a, I don't know what I'm going to do. I think, you know what I'm, I'm not going to say it, but literally, um, I wanted to say when my director was like, but you're this, this is your job. This is what you're supposed to do. They, they want you when you work a corporate job they oh yeah that's what I was saying you're hired you get a salary you agree on that whatever and then you have a manager you have someone training you on specific tasks that you do when you come in to work every day now when you're remote there's not a lot of you can't go over to your manager's desk like it's just not a conversational environment you can go
Starting point is 01:48:03 on slack you can get on a zoom call like you can call them up of course and we do do that we check in we figure things out over those communication channels but the nature of what I do is very much like you have a task you do the task and it leads you to you complete the task and then you go to the next it's just that's what you're hired so it's not like and this is what everyone in the corporate world wants you to do all the higher-ups they want you to care about everything every aspect of the company and they want you to really be invested in blah blah blah blah and so when my director was saying that to me I'm like yeah but you're paying me like I almost wanted to say this it's like so not true because it's like I definitely make more than this but she she was
Starting point is 01:48:47 like well you're in this you're this this is your job you're supposed to know this stuff and I'm like I don't know how that related to anything I had said or anything in the document because the document doesn't showcase my lack of understanding about the industry or my what's called my um like poor performance or what are my uh understanding my in understanding my there's a word for it incompetency incompetency nothing and it didn't have to do with any of that other than that term they were trying to catch me on which that was so not right and it was so they were not right you know what i mean like they fucked it up and they actually fixed it on my new KPIs like I said so um and anyways when she said that I literally wanted to be like yeah
Starting point is 01:49:39 well you're uh paying me like a fast food worker at McDonald's so you know I'd be happy to talk about you know honestly like this is what I want to say I honestly like you know how you okay I literally had like three days after of like coming up with ideas in my head of what I would have said in this conversation if I had had it over again and I literally burst out into tears after and cory called me immediately like i don't know if that was like godly he like knew something was wrong or like he was just calling to check in but it was literally the timing was i get off the zoom call after 30 minutes of like pumping fucking my chest and standing up for myself and just being like fuck this to them and then just started crying getting all emotional and then cory calls
Starting point is 01:50:19 like and he's like what happened are you okay no but i literally was like look if i had to do it all over again I'd be like dude I just want to sit back put my arms behind my head and be like quiet and not heated first of all because don't ever do that but I did it and you know what sometimes it's good to pop off and I did I chose violence and it is what it is I didn't swear I should I wanted to say bullshit I think I said nonsense kind of cringy but um uh the thing is is they all okay I won't get into that um I just wish I took a the approach of like you're wasting my time like I'm this is just uninteresting to me and a big you're just I just don't care basically because like you know you're
Starting point is 01:51:09 not paying me enough to care about any of this so I'd be happy to talk about giving me a race let's have a conversation about that because this doesn't I'm not this isn't like clocking on my brain as a concern or something I should care about because I'm simply not being paid enough to care about it like literally I wanted to take that angle and I actually did tell my manager that in her next one I won't call them next week um and she actually swept it swept that shit under the rug she was like hey how are you you know and lovely people honestly great people it's just the game we're playing you know what I mean um really I really have no bad blood or like negative vibes or feelings it's just people protecting their ass there's obviously money being uh not
Starting point is 01:51:55 made or no like the company losing money or something they're making changes people are getting fired like there's a lot of stuff happening that i'm not even aware of that is trickling down to me and that's just how corporate america works right and so like i don't really have any animosity or negative feelings about my boss because she's lovely and we have a great relationship but like i had to address that shit with her i had to be like she asked me like you know she went through the agenda and everything all like normal and just I'm sitting there it's silent let a good 20 seconds hang over the air before I even responded to what she had just said and I go like basically what the fuck was last week like what was that
Starting point is 01:52:32 why'd you stab me in the back I really said that and it was just like well I just you know I want to move forward in a positive direction and it's like oh they all have to say that no one's real and that's the thing that's why like can you tell like I'm just not cut out for that environment like I'm too no bullshit and I'm too like straight up real like what's the word like um I'm not fake that's the thing that's the oh my god I just I just said it and it's so obvious like corporate speak corporate uh the corporate environment is so fakey and you have to mask all day long and fake smile and pretend like everything's okay and you know you know it's all it's like me on the DEI mandatory live training I get into a chat room because I guess you can
Starting point is 01:53:23 do that on zoom you can like break away into like separate rooms within the meeting which I didn't know this is like the first time I got to do that which is kind of cool three lovely co-workers I've never met from across the world one was like in the UK the other one was probably in Alabama I don't know she had like an accent from the south um we had to like share our thoughts or like what we want to learn today and you know of course I bullshit and said oh I want to have an open mind and even though I already have a strong opinion that I'm so dumb like I who cares right like I have strong feelings about certain things in this world and like the DEI program I'm just super against because I think it's inherently it's
Starting point is 01:53:56 racist like it straight up is and um yeah and I without saying it like that I was like you know I personally don't agree with this program and I'm just I'm here today to have an open mind and hear the other side of the conversation because I know that that's important you know but um what was I saying oh I'm too like and I'm not trying to be abrasive I'm abrasive I think you just get to a point where it's like you can't handle the bullshit anymore you can't handle the fake masking and the fakeness anymore and you're like and it's easy so this company and what I do and like my job is so it fits in the in the in terms of if this was in person in office and I had to like do this all day long and be
Starting point is 01:54:41 with this these people and be fake all day long it would kill me but the fact that I can be in the comfort of my own home and not have to deal with that it makes it digestible I think a lot of people could relate to that it's like one of those um it's like a yeah so anyways long story short I'm on thin ice thin ice and um I don't know what the future holds but just know that I popped off and we're moving forward in a positive direction and the director is now attending my one-on-one meetings with my manager and I noticed that our meeting next week is only 30 minutes typically they're an hour am i getting fired potentially yes so um wouldn't be surprised uh i'd like to play last man standing like make them fire me make it hard for them to fire me
Starting point is 01:55:26 like i kind of want to pull that card because there's no it's just so what it's just and the thing is is they have to write these letters and they have to do these meetings and they have to do these steps because they're covering their ass for legal purposes and like i know like this decision to fire me probably already was made and it's you know this is the the process of it and you know it is what it is like I'm I always say like I mean the last time I moved on from the company before this one I literally found a job in 30 days like I have no issue it's not I don't know so that's what's really going on in my life like legit um I'm doing a lot of construction projects around our not a lot honestly just the backyard
Starting point is 01:56:14 we're under construction here at the casa de uh seagull and uh quarry's last name that i'm adopting i don't know how i'm gonna do that it's definitely not changing to the jacqueline seagull show by the way we're not doing that um it's the jacqueline monroe show will always be that i think i'm i'm a fan here's the thing i am very traditional so like of course yes i will be taking his last name but I don't this this will always be my I guess stage name you know what I mean like it might be hyphenated like on my social media or like I'll have his last name in my but it won't be the show name if that makes sense I don't even know if I'll do that I don't think I'm going to change like my Instagram handle I don't know like I feel like people have like a it's respectful
Starting point is 01:57:02 or it's disrespectful or it's respectful or it's customary or it's like or it's all bs like some women are like i'm not taking his i'm never gonna take a man's last name i'm like i kind of get that like it's your identity your whole life and then you've built like for me the jocelyn monroe show and then overnight i have to change my last name and just be that now it's like it is exciting there's something about it that's like great but also not at the same time so um okay so yeah we are under construction here at Casa de Segal we're doing the backyard we are on thin ice but moving forward in a positive direction at my job my day job and uh what else we're uh not we're making up ideas of who people are at the gym in our head and we're
Starting point is 01:57:52 seeing them every day and it's weird because we don't know who they are but we just see them every day um we are not sleeping through the night with our bulldog our english bulldog he is crying we are uh we're adam sandler today we're fucking gross we need to shower we need to clean up um i didn't update you cory did come home and he went back to work um and we were skipping lunch because I'm podcasting so but the electrician's here he set them all up so that's good um so yeah what else happened today $74,000 which I titled this episode I literally have an episode title and this is like early the TJMS the Jacqueline Monroe show show days literally called this is gonna get me fired
Starting point is 01:58:43 you know what's wild to think about the 30 days so I recorded a podcast seven days a week for 300 300 days the first 30 days I literally went into a hole I didn't work at the startup company I was hired to work at like I was I literally didn't do shit I didn't go to meet I literally just was like I'm podcasting I don't know what kind of personality disorder that is or what kind of like disease I know but it literally was like the 30 days after 30 days of me just doing it and my my um boss was he was cool he's like hey I see you started a podcast that's awesome um basically like supportive and like cool because it's a startup and you work with like young people that are cool and open-minded
Starting point is 01:59:35 and like I don't know and um he was basically like that's cool like let's get back to work which I was like great yeah I do need to get paid to afford this rent so like yeah please keep me on on the payroll but uh but yeah I'm doing a podcast it was just so weird how I literally was like so locked into this thing or I did it and I didn't even like work I was just like or I didn't even know that was a weird that was one of those jobs where it was like it wasn't a it was a brand new startup like three months old you know what I mean so and yeah so I think that's it rest in peace actually I don't know rest in hell rest in I don't I'm not so super well versed in the OJ Simpson
Starting point is 02:00:22 uh oh my god people are making conspiracies about the connection between OJ Simpson and Diddy and why he's dead now I don't know That's not true because he had literal prostate Cancer But yeah that's crazy I was at the gym and Corey was like Pointing at the TV he's like holy shit OJ Simpson
Starting point is 02:00:44 Died and it didn't clock in my brain Like the OJ Simpson Because I'm looking at the screen and there's a football player There and it didn't Really look like him I don't know it was just like he had a helmet On maybe couldn't really Tell who it was but I'm like oh that's crazy in my Head in my little
Starting point is 02:01:00 like ditzy white girl had I'm like I don't know I don't know how to label my race because I'm against labels and label because it's irrelevant why do I have to say that I'm a white girl I mean I am a white girl but like okay whatever um I'm like oh that's crazy like a football player out there has the same name as like OJ Simpson oh they have the same name but how did he die like I was like oh he died that's sad like a football player died oh sad no I didn't realize it's like oj simpson bronco chase oj simpson murderer but alleged not convicted should have been in prison for life oj simpson oh okay so yeah so that happened um the eclipse happened did not watch i guess it's not happening until 2006 2026 wait what the fuck 20 what's the year 2026
Starting point is 02:01:46 um so yeah uh what are we doing this weekend great question we are i already got a mani pedi so i don't need to do that probably golf probably house stuff um oh do i have exciting things to tease i'm going to vegas next month uh i might have to go to newport actually oh teasing actually i'm not going to talk about that actually now it's fun because now like why is she going to newport where is she going what is she doing um that's a potential thing the newport thing and the reason i'm going thing that I'm like excited about but I don't know if I'm gonna do it thing um we are what else is oh my god the the masters masters week tiger let me type in the masters right now
Starting point is 02:02:53 I think chef is last night at sushi I think Scotty's just so consistent yeah wait am i saying that right scotty shuffler yeah shuffler shuffler de chambeau homa uh we got de chambeau minus seven shuffler minus seven where is rory in this lineup because come on he's not gonna do it he's minus one he could he could do it state what is it day the purse is 18 million shit is that higher what was the purse last year master's purse 2023 aren't they bumping it up because of the live merger thing 2023 over the years oh yeah 1946 master's purse is $2,500 let me see
Starting point is 02:03:59 the evolution of the masters winning winners payout okay wait a minute john rom okay wait a minute holy shit dude okay am i reading this right the evolution of masters winners payout oh my god the purse is 18 million this year it's it was 3 million 240 000 last year when john john rom won holy shit what if i text cory with like act like i i do know what's going on i do love golf and i do care and i do watch it and everything but like and i do play and i'm just like such a golf nerd oh my god master's purse i just want to see what he writes back is 18 mil with those like big eyes
Starting point is 02:04:57 it's because of live 100 that's isn't that like the whole thing um they kind of had to do that because of live last year it was yeah i think i'm getting that right i mean it says it here april 11th through 14th augustin national golf course 18 million dollars yeah okay so we're rooting for rory as always we want him to win his fucking yeah we want him to win in the masters so he can be part of the uh what's the reason for that there's like the when you win every major this is the major he hasn't won but only how many people
Starting point is 02:05:51 you know who's getting close or who's what is brooks at wait is he in here wait a minute kepka where is kepka tiger woods plus one is he out john ron plus one kepka is plus two oh shit okay see i love golf i really i'm just like i'm so happy here's the thing i always say this like at some point in your twenties, you have to pick something. I'm a big, I'm going into my thirties starting in July, but something that I had an epiphany on in my twenties is like, you've got to pick, like, it feels good to pick something and have your thing and like decide. And now you can like have this hobby or this project you work on or this goal, whatever career career is what you
Starting point is 02:06:47 got to pick too. Right. And I pick podcasting and then I also pick golf. And the thing is that I love about golf is like I can do it for the rest of my life I can travel and I can do it Corey's going on a golf trip with his friends in like a week or so like anywhere you go there's golf courses like it's so fun to like try new golf oh my god like I love the country club vibes and the like the great food and the drinking on the course it's like a good time it's a social thing you meet people literally can't recommend golf enough it's so great I love the culture around it like um yeah I'm just and it's so wild it's so full circle because growing up my dad was always like you should play golf you should play golf I never play golf
Starting point is 02:07:36 until I literally was I think this is my since I'm 2022 I started learning for the first time ever um but then growing up i watched golf on tv all the time like i loved watching golf on tv and i i don't know it's always like around golf and i walk because i watched it or i was always like aware of it but um yeah now it's like i'm playing i don't know it's like full circle and now i'm like into it so i was gonna go to this girls trip thing in vegas for a like a golf a master's golf weekend but I decided not to go would have been fun I need to go I need I miss the club I need to go I I need here's what I need to do I need we've been talking oh I just got a new outfit from a from a brand that they sent to me so I'm gonna probably put that on and
Starting point is 02:08:32 do like a post in it but or I have to so I will but um I need to like get dressed up and I need to like go on a hot date with Corey or like go out out like I need I need it I miss it I need it I need well I'm going to Vegas next month but not for something like that so um wait the purse is 18 million it gets divvied up obviously because there's multiple I'm so dumb. I'm not dumb. No. How do I do a record scratch? No, I'm not stupid. I shouldn't have said that. So 18 million gets divvied up. The winner gets 3 million. That's what Corey said, right? Oh, duh. the purse is the entire purse like if you open your purse and you have all this money to give
Starting point is 02:09:33 to all the people that rank you have to disperse it and the winner gets three million that doesn't seem like a lot golfers don't get i feel like they should get paid more i know like obviously the guys that went to live are making bank but you look at like i don't know i think basketball players get paid the most so um oh i could talk forever what time is it okay so i got the new roadcaster pro 2 we're really into it we're gonna figure out the uh sound effects and i'll have my own you know background music and everything uploaded so that'll be fun um yeah things are coming along I I don't want to leave could this be I love podcasting what should I search now to have I should oh my god I need to be a streamer dude I need to be a twitch streamer like
Starting point is 02:10:37 I think you know what I should just live stream my podcast and then I'll end the show the actual podcast that you tune into on Spotify or whatever and Apple but then I'll like keep talking and then that'll just be the live stream I don't know I just should be doing this all day long I should live stream my corporate job like or like while I'm working just like me typing emails people live stream now it's like it's like a people tell me I should do all the time I just I haven't really explored it but um what are like the trends right now like what are we what are we wearing like you know i don't know oh lisa randa what happened oh my god
Starting point is 02:11:32 um yeah she's overfilled okay their critics slammed her look of course they did she said they weren't not a good look for me he's surprised with graduation okay Travis Kelsey okay I'm just reading page six right now oh you know what was actually kind of nice to see I'm sure everyone's in the like beauty community maybe or like instagram girl community or like i don't know the female podcast host community like my i don't know what i'm what am i saying kendall jenner just did like a get ready with me with vogue and it was like damn she's got real skin like she's like aging and i don't mean that like i mean so am i like we're fucking i think she's younger than me how old is kendall kendall jenner
Starting point is 02:12:24 but you saw like you see the wrinkles on her forehead you see the texture of her skin like the way they filmed it I don't know they like didn't use any filters or anything and she was like super like pleasant and I don't know like her personality was like super natural and like she's just kind of like a girl's girl not I hate the girl's girl thing you know that but it was like damn okay Kendall like how old is Kendall and she was doing this like eyebrow trick with her gua sha how old is Kendall 28 yeah she looks I mean she looked great in it I just I was like watching this video I'm like damn I've never seen like Kendall's like real raw features and everything like nothing bad like
Starting point is 02:13:09 obviously she's a supermodel she's gorgeous but like it was just seeing the skin most people like I feel like they always have like the certain lighting that you can't tell but um yeah it was just kind of a cool thing to see okay ending the podcast with a tip that i saw because i got to uh i just remember this and this is a closet organization tip so uh actually should i just play the tiktok i will because i can now with my new road caster pro 2 hold on let me just play it whatever pops up i don't want that to happen okay my closet theory is that we have it all wrong we are told that we need to organize our closets in monochrome so like all the whites all the grays like leading into like that gradual gradient of
Starting point is 02:14:05 color and everything's color organized i used to do that i don't think that's the answer i think the answer is boutique style if i don't know if that's already a thing i think it's boutique style what do I mean by that what's the difference between you walking into a department store and you going into like a small niche curated boutique I'll tell you what it is you go to a department store and everything is mushed into like look at all the black look at all the white look at all the color at least that's what I think of when I go to department stores if your department store is not like that please do not come for me that's what I think of and so what happens when you organize your closet in that way is everything starts to blend together and none of
Starting point is 02:14:43 your pieces have a unique identity so you have a bunch of black I don't know tank tops or blouses they all start to look the same because they're all next to each other and it's just black right I just reorganized my closet and if you know me you know I do this almost every two and a half three okay so like let me it's like a five minute video but basically she shows what she did like how she redid it her closet because I personally do everything by color like tops well I have my closets in sections where I have like formal tops casual tops workout tops but within those categories they're all monochrome honestly that works fine okay we're not trying to okay honestly with that it actually I don't have an issue with like okay but it's a great
Starting point is 02:15:29 idea I feel like for um what I would do this with is all of my clothes that are more like like casual elevated or like casual like nice pants nice tops you know like jackets I would what she did is she like intermixed them so because I was just at a boutique last weekend shout out Bobby Rocco here in Bird Rock in San Diego and it's so true because when you go through a rack at a boutique you're inspired by what you're seeing because like you're seeing like a jacket next to a tank top next to a pair of pants you're like oh there's an outfit and then you go to the next thing and it's like a dress with I don't know like a two-piece set dress thing and then you're like oh that's that's an outfit and then you it's like as you look through it it's
Starting point is 02:16:25 telling a story of like what the outfit could be and so what I want to do is like do the same thing where I put the the nice pants with the tops that would go with it next to each other and then I do the jackets that could go with that to complete the outfit and then I rinse repeat and then I you know you put like outfit combinations jacket like pants top jacket skirt top cardigan uh whatever combo uh uh shorts just in a way where as you go through your closet you're seeing the the outfit story i don't know it's a cool idea i just thought the way she showed i mean i have such a i'm in like in a identity not an identity crisis with my clothes but like I feel like I have such a basic style where I'm like I could go I could go so much harder
Starting point is 02:17:21 but I definitely feel like you go through like body changes I don't know how to explain it I'm just like I have to like try harder I think I don't know or I dress like more like conservatively than I probably I don't not not conservatively like I dress more like I don't have fun I don't choose I have fun things I just don't choose to wear them if that makes sense I always go with a safe like neutral you know jeans and a nude long sleeve top with a you know belt and little heels with my jeans I guess it looks great though like it looks it looks nice so um I definitely want to oh my god this is like kind of an inside thing but when I go on video again for my podcast like one thing that's so apparent when I watch pod
Starting point is 02:18:23 or not watch well sometimes depends who I'm watching but when I watch myself on my old clips like i want to have like fun tops because you'll only see the top half like i really want to like i don't know like i just want to like get funky weird tops and then i have a closet in my podcast studio and i just want to like fill it it'll be like my wardrobe you know what i mean and then i'll have these like cool tops to choose from instead of wearing like a basic tee all the time and like i don't know because something like when you when you create content there's like an element of there's like a costume or there's like a you know how when like people get ready and they put the little band over their head like that's part of the shtick that's part of
Starting point is 02:19:07 the costume that's part of the you know yes they'd still do it if if they weren't on camera like I do that I put on my little bunny ear thing uh when I wash my face and I put on my makeup but um yeah I don't know I just think it'd be fun to have like a little fun funky wardrobe of I don't know just tops with like visual interest I think that's what it is like most of my tops are really basic like I need tops with more life in them for the camera so coming soon all right that's it this was a long one um as always um gonna live stream bye podcasting live streaming actually can just turn into a podcast uh thank you so much for hanging out thanks for being here i hope you had a great week um what did i say in the beginning i hope your eyes are fine from the
