Here's another story about this.
Texas football's treatment of Holly Row is reflective of the rampant backlash
towards successful women in sports by Zachary Draves.
I don't know who Zachary Draves is, but what ends up happening is what I get is,
I open up whatever the search engine is on this computer.
whatever this shit is.
And it takes me to this page, which is obviously a lot of shit that's just trolling stuff, that just is bullshit.
But I guess this is from SB Nation.
And SB Nation is still a thing.
The late great glorious Steinem.
Well, that's where this story is going already.
The late great Gloria Steinem.
I believe that she was the late great Hannibal Lecter, great doctor, once said about domestic violence.
violence against women. There was no word for it. It was called life. It was just the way that it was.
Well, again, nothing actually happened here. There's not, there was no actual violence towards women.
It just so happened that the person that got blown off was a woman. If that person was Tom Rinaldi or
insert any other male sideline reporter, which there aren't a ton of them, but like if there was
like a Tom Rinaldi and he got punched, nobody would be offended by it.
Thankfully, I feel like I should read this like, thankfully in large part due to the women's liberation movement.
Like this guy is like, this guy has a vagina hat because he thought it was going to get him laid in 2016.
Thankfully in large part due to the women's liberation movement, we have some laws on the books, protections for abuse against victims and survivors, 24-7 shelters, awareness campaigns, and education in schools on an issue that was once hidden in the shafts.
Well, again, nobody actually got hit by anyone.
I don't know.
Like, I wonder if Zachary Draves here is aware that Holly Roe didn't actually get slapped by Steve
Sarkesian.
And actually, Steve Sarkeesian's woke as fuck.
His wife's black.
So he gets like 400 woke points.
What do you get Zachary Draves?
Like, you don't get special points for writing about how domestic violence or violence
against women is bad and using glorious
Steinem lines, are you married to
a black lady as a successful white guy?
I don't think you get that.
I think Steve Sarkeesian
Defeatheed. Steve Sarkeesian, by the way,
didn't actually punch anyone.
He just walked away from an interview to go celebrate
with his team. Oh no,
what a piece of shit.
And yet, there is still an
undercurrent of normalization when it
permeates everyday
vernacular and attitudes
towards women.
that humor that can be rooted in a worldview dominated by pathological patriarchy where women are seen as less than.
No, it's not women are seen as less than.
It's sideline reporters are seen as less than because they are.
Howard Eskin, when he was the sideline reporter for the Eagles, was less than because he was a sideline reporter.
sideline reporters are in fact less than.
They don't do anything of great significance.
They're there to be on camera like two times.
Before the game when they talk to the coach and after at halftime when they talk to the coach,
maybe three times for a grand total of 47 seconds.
The best is the halftime interview like teams down by 25 or something.
Coach, what do you got to adjust in the second half?
I don't know.
We've got to play better.
All right, thanks, coach.
This was certainly the case with the University of Texas football program and their treatment of ESPN sideline reporter Holly Row.
How did they treat Holly Row poorly?
How did they treat this person poorly?
That would be my question.
Why?
Because one player on the team found the video funny?
Some doofus in college found this funny?
Let's see.
Last Saturday after Texas pulled off a historic comeback went over Ohio State, Longhorn's head coach Sarkegee, blew off a postgame interview with Row on the field.
He threw up the hookum horn's hand gesture before walking away, leaving him.
Roe understandably frustrated. Yes, I'm sorry that you didn't get your 47 second interview where you
got to ask the coach, hey, coach, how do you feel right now? Coach, have you ever been part of a
game like this before ever? You know, those kind of great questions. Therefore, shortly after,
an AI generated meme circulated featuring Sarkeesian slapping Roe across the face. Now this,
Now this is triggering here.
In a subsequent press conference, a question was posed to Texas quarterback Arch Manning
asking him what he thought of the interview clip.
A wide smile emerged on Manning's face as he responded,
I've seen a few AI edits of stuff, but that's about it.
I saw an AI edit of Sark's interview.
Have you all seen that one?
That's a good one.
If him slapping Holly Row, it's hilarious.
So of course, now Arch Manning is a terrible human being
because he finds women getting slapped funny.
I'd argue that's equality.
I'd argue it's equality when someone like Arch Manning finds it hysterical that a woman gets slapped and a man can get slapped.
Everybody can get slapped.
We can all get slapped.
What if it would have been a situation where one of these lesbian basketball coaches slapped a lady thing?
I mean, would that have counted?
Would we have been offended by that?
I'm sure something like that exists somewhere.
I'm sure there's some AI edit of, you know, Caitlin Clark getting punched in the face.
Actually, those aren't AI edits.
Those are real videos.
but like Caitlin Clark getting punched by somebody.
Audible laughter burst out at the presser
among a group of male reporters,
as if the idea of hurting not just a prominent accomplished woman,
but any woman is somehow amusing.
And the fact that nobody in the room stood up,
spoke up and called out,
really says a lot about them and the character.
It says something about their character
that some guy in a press conference didn't go,
hey, you know what?
Fuck that.
You know what?
This is terrible.
Why are we laughing at this? Shame on you, Arch Manning, you stupid patriarchal piece of shit.
And also, while I got you, how did you feel about that comeback? Have you ever been part of a game like that before?
As for Manning, I don't want to hear the argument that he didn't know better or he was just a kid.
Well, I guarantee that this same guy would make that argument when some other player does something stupid on the field that people are ripping him for or that some guy goes out and commits a crime or something or does something stupid.
you'd find every reason to defend the guy.
But Arch's never going to get the benefit of the doubt,
which I understand because Arch comes from this, you know,
holier than thou family,
and he's been seemingly given everything,
and he's been given fame,
and he probably had access to money and other shit
that other people didn't have.
So I understand where he's going to get,
he's not going to get the benefit of the doubt on shit,
but I guarantee you Zachary Draves here
would give the benefit of some guy,
to some other guy doing something stupid, but not ours.
First off, he's 22 years old.
He's a legal adult.
Secondly, he should know better.
As do the other adult men in the room.
What should they know better about?
They should know better than to not make a video of some lady getting slapped by Steve Sarkesian.
They should know better.
They should know better than to not do anything wrong.
Shame on you for doing nothing wrong, Archmanning.
You should know better.
Speaking of should have known better today is Richard Mark's birthday.
I know this because that's what I talk about.
on the radio now.
Third, when you were part of a prominent family like his, you're under greater scrutiny.
No, he's the quarterback at fucking Texas.
The fact that he's one of the mannings doesn't put him under greater scrutiny in a situation
like this.
It puts him under greater scrutiny when it comes to playing quarterback in college at Texas.
Being a manning puts you under greater scrutiny.
He's not under greater scrutiny in a situation like this because he's one of the mannings.
To his credit, Manning posted an apology on Instagram.
What a sad world.
As for Holly Roe, everyone should know by that now that she's a beloved member of the women's basketball community.
Okay, cool.
Like, super.
So, like, why aren't you yet?
Like, you know the one person who hasn't gotten shit?
Now, granted, we don't know who this person is.
But, like, the idea of making this AI doesn't bother any of these people.
It's that the people who happened upon it and saw it and chuckled.
Like, those are the horrible people.
She has been there every step of the way
as women's college basketball
and the WNBA rose in recent years.
Yes, she was there whenever Angel Reese
taunted Caitlin Clark,
thus making the WNBA a super political
Fox News show and not a sport anymore.
Yay, Holly.
For every great moment, Holly was there.
She has interviewed every great player in the game
and her past, by the way, these are not interviews.
I will push back a little bit
on the idea that she's interviewing these people.
Now, before games and stuff,
she sits in there and they're all in on these meetings and they talk to coaches and players.
So they know the kind of like that's what happens, you know, the day before a game, two days before
a game, they get to a city.
You know, they're sitting in like a conference room at a stadium or at a hotel and the coach
will give them whatever information he wants to give them.
Like I used to do that kind of shit for high school, obviously a much smaller scale,
but it was a live TV broadcast of high school football.
I'd call the coach, be like, hey, it's Josh.
I'm with the Cox for a game of the week.
do you mind if I come over, can you give me a time that works for you?
Can I come over to the school and just, you know, ask you some questions, get some
pronunciations on names for kids, tell me their back stories so I can build my spotting
chart so I know some stories about these guys for the game.
And I'd go sit in a coach's office and we'd shoot the shit for 45 minutes.
I'd run a recorder on it.
I'd go back, listen to the tape and I would build a board that way.
So like, that's common.
So you have a conversation.
But the idea that, like, that Edward R. Murrow is somehow being disrespected here,
like, you only give a shit because she's a woman.
Tom Rinaldi does a lot of fine shit, too.
He's run off to Fox or wherever he is.
I don't even know that he fucking exists anymore.
Let's see.
The mistreatment she has experienced from Texas football is yet another example of an ongoing backlash
against the progress made in women's sports.
It is not.
It is not.
That's the beauty is anytime something happens to somebody,
of an oppressed group. It is a sign that the oppressed group as a whole is being mistreated.
That is not the case. This is not the case. It's just she happened to be the person that
Sarkesian blew off because he didn't do the interview. Did he do an interview at halftime when his
team's losing? I'm sure, like, I don't know if he did or if it was Ryan Day who did the interview
at halftime. I wasn't watching. But which one of them did the interview at that point?
There's a question for you. But it is not some sort of.
of backlash against the progress made by women in sports.
Now, there is a backlash against women in sports,
because that's being done mostly by right-wing people
who have just basically co-opted women's sports
for their own political messaging.
That's true.
But the mistreatment she has experienced.
Like, what mistreatment is it?
Because the coach blew off an interview.
Coaches are short and blow-off interviews all the time.
Because Arch Manning, a doofist laughed at it.
Like, oh, dear.
Let's see. This year alone has been chock full of reactionary responses such as former
unaccomplished NBA players, Ennis Cantor and Royce White drafting themselves into the WNBA.
I do like how now Royce White is unaccomplished by these people, but I guarantee when he was
not playing because he was afraid to fly, these liberal rider types were like, this guy's being
heroic, just like the right-wing people were probably saying he was a giant pussy back then, but
now he's a hero. The online hate and threats directed at WNBA players, particularly those who
are black and or LGBTQ. You know who else gets online threats all the time? Fun fact.
Dudes. I guarantee the same. Now, is there bad shit said about WNBA players? Sure.
Like, do you think that men athletes and celebrities don't get bad shit said about them all the time by
lunatics? Dude, I'm a nobody and I got two pages of tweets or text messages from some guy that was so
pissed I wasn't doing the podcast that he said I was fucking diddled by my dad. A sports betting company
choosing to promote a hyper-sexualized ad featuring Sydney.
Oh, my God.
Dude, just like, go stick your dick in a light socket.
You are the worst.
Like, who gives a shit if the sports betting abs?
My God.
Like, Sidney is someone I will defend to the Hill.
You know, like, when I saw these right-wing people going nuts over this stupid
olive oil built fucking Sophie Cunningham, I'm like, whatever.
You guys just like her because she said that, you know, she said something politically that you enjoy.
and she puts some videos out where she's dancing to country music because you're that easy.
But big picture, she's just there.
By the way, black boyfriend, love it.
But Sidney Sweeney is legit smoking hot.
So I will defend Sidney Sweeney.
I will go to the tops of the mountains to defend Sidney Sweeney.
I will not accept Sidney Slander from a bunch of angry lesbians and dudes, I guess.
This may not even be a real person.
How many times do you read a story like this and you're like,
I don't think this person's even real?
Like someone just threw this into, you know, chat GPT, they spit out a shitty story, they put a fake name on it.
Zachary Draves.
Examples of rampant misogyny extend beyond sports and are particularly glaring in politics.
Some in both political parties have stood behind candidates with a history of violence against women.
A member of Congress decided to bestow an honor upon R&B singer Chris Brown.
The president, who has been accused of abuse towards women, has been emboldened to be
and degrade women reporters doing their jobs.
He berates everyone.
The survivors of Jeffrey Epstein are still awaiting justice from the powers that be that have shunned them.
Now what we've done, what this story has done is we've taken a story about someone in a menial job.
Sideline reporting is a menial job.
And we have now taken that and we've turned it into, can you believe the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein are awaiting justice?
So that's where we've gone here.
It's like A plus B equals potato is what we've done here.
We've gone from story about woman getting blown off on the sideline
and doofist football player laughing at some AI at it.
We've gone from that to Epstein shit.
A clear pattern explains why this behavior towards Holly Rowe isn't in a vacuum.
Grown men need to step up.
It's long overdone.
do. Call this out for what it is. I'm not. Set an example of professionalism in sports to politics
and other areas of society. Not only that, but set an example for other men and boys to follow
on what to be and what not to be. Be an ally to women and girls. Call out misogyny and sexism
where it comes up, especially when it comes from your inner circle. Yeah, I guarantee that,
you know, some dudes sitting around with Arch Manning and they're all laughing at this video.
Like, you want to be the one guy in that video and that group that's like, Arch, why are we
laughing at this. This is misogyny towards
women. Arch, I refuse
to laugh at this because
Zachary Draves of the
H.B. Nation will write a story about how
we're terrible, so no. I'm not
going to do that. I will not engage with this
rampant misogyny. I'm not. I'm not going to
do that. No. No,
Arch. Arch, be
better. And if you don't delete that from
your phone right now, we can't be friends anymore,
Arch.
Understand that one and three women
are victims of rape, physical violence,
and stalking by intimate partners, per the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
Of course, Holly Row is not.
Holly Row is the victim of some coach blowing her off for an interview.
But I'm glad that this is where we got.
I'm glad that we went from Holly Row got blown off for an interview to,
hey, did you know that women are raped?
One and three women are raped and treated poorly by their partner?
As for Holly Row, keep doing what you're doing and keep being you.
Yes, keep asking pointless questions.
again, I'm not saying this because she's a fucking woman.
I'm saying this because she's a sideline reporter.
Sideline reporters are worthless.
ESPN fires a billion people every year.
Like somehow they keep finding new people to fire.
Somehow ESPN is out here like, we are firing people every day.
Yet we're keeping sideline reporters employed.
That makes any fucking sense.
