All right, what's going on, everybody?
It's Josh.
Glad you guys are there.
I know I've done kind of a soft rejoin of the podcast or a soft launch.
Actually, a very soft launch on the pod, on the return of the pod.
It's a very soft launch.
I mean, I didn't even have everything even working yesterday, but I wanted to put something
out there so people could maybe get it, consume it, whatever.
So I appreciate anybody who's listened to it, but I'll get it out there a little bit better next
time. I think we're on Spotify now, so you can find the podcast on Spotify. You can find the
podcast on Apple, wherever you get podcasts. And we'll be back on YouTube. We're not going to do
Twitch, but we are going to do YouTube. And I just got to get
all the stuff lined up for it. But the plan is to be on YouTube. And we have a YouTube channel
already anyway. Just search for The Josh Ennis Show. When you search for The Josh Ennis Show,
you'll see the pink and black and blue logo. And just go follow that. Subscribe to that channel.
And anytime I do anything video
wise, that's where I'm going to be. So if you haven't subscribed to the podcast, subscribe to
the podcast. Now I am live on Instagram for a few minutes here, just seeing some feedback from
people as we start recording this now. So I'm seeing a lot of people jump into their, to the
chat there. And I appreciate you guys.
So that's on Instagram.
But again, if you're listening to this, obviously you know, but podcast is on Apple.
It's on Spotify.
Search for The Josh Ennis Show.
There are places or other podcasts that are The Josh Ennis Show, because I'm not original
in naming things, so everything's The Josh Ennis show, because I'm not original in naming things. So everything's the Josh Ennis show. Look for the classic 2019 original Josh Ennis show logo, black with the
pink letters and the blue letters. Look for that. We call it the 80s hair metal Josh Ennis show logo.
Look for that. And that's the podcast you should follow. Cause I know that like the, some of the other podcasts from the radio stations I've worked at, those are still up there. So
that's not what we're looking for here. Look for the Josh and his show classic just logo people
who've been around since the beginning, you know, the classic just logo, pink, black, kind of a blue
Tommy Pat's ass. Is it on Apple? Yes. So Apple podcast,
just search for the Josh NS show. You know how to spell it. I N N E S Tommy's a good guy too.
Uh, so appreciate you. Like, I know that I talked a bunch of shit on the first podcast yesterday
and look, I'm going to continue to talk shit. And I'm kind of like an emotional rollercoaster
on things because some days I'm, you know,
doing a little bit better.
Let me rewind.
I'm not like in some sort of mental breakdown or like infinite sorrow over everything right
now.
That's not how I am.
Like I'm just looking for a gig.
I'm getting paid to look for a gig basically for a while.
That's where I'm at right now.
So I'm not in a position
in my life where I'm like super depressed about it, but there are days that I get a little bit
antsier or a little bit more revved up to be back at it. Like, first of all, I'm just ready to get
the fuck out of St. Louis. Um, that is like my main ambition in life at this point is to find a
job and get the hell out of St. Louis. Um, nothing against St. Louis. It was my dream to live and work here turned out to not be such a dream, but, um,
you know, I'm trying to get the hell out of here and find a gig. Like I got a lot of stuff already
packed up. Like the day I got fired, I'm like, I know I ain't getting another job in St. Louis.
There are no jobs here. Um, so I, and I don't want to be here anyway. So mostly because I didn't feel like what I was doing,
what my style wasn't really a fit here. I just think this is a very kind of
very lame radio place. And not to say there aren't good radio people here. I think there
are some good radio people here. So there are some talented people here. It's just that my style
is not exactly what fits and as
we talked about in the first podcast and if you didn't listen to yesterday's podcast I've laid out
like my entire ambition for like a Houston podcast takeover I think it's prime for it I think it's
ready for it I think it'd be big and I play I talked about that yesterday so I I'm excited about that. And hopefully it becomes
something. I got to manifest it. I got to make it something. I must go forward with it. So
that's what I'm doing. But I'm also still looking for a gig, all that. But when people ask,
I see some of the comments. Are you bringing Scotty with you? No. I mean, me and Scott are
not a package. When I got to St. Louis,
they hired me. They said, we need someone to be on the air with you. I said, great,
let's meet people. Um, and they introduced me to another guy before Scott, who was fine.
He was a very nice guy. Uh, didn't seem like it was the kind of fit. Um, the next day they took
me to meet Scott. We were at a bar. Scott had already been drinking. When I got there,
we had a great fucking time.
We laughed.
It was awesome.
And I love Scott as a human being.
But A, I don't think Scott would leave here.
B, we're not a package deal.
I've never had a package deal scenario.
Everywhere I've ever gotten a job,
everywhere I've gotten a job before, it's been me.
So I've never actually brought a show anywhere with me.
So Scott would not be one of the,
that's not an insult to Scott.
I love Scott.
I enjoy being around him every day.
We're buddies.
I text him all the time.
I like laughing with the guy.
So all that's great.
And I think he's great for that on the air,
but there's just no place for it.
Uh, what about Jim?
Uh, Jim mud's got such a great job.
Now there ain't a chance in fucking hell.
Jim would ever do anything with me.
Now I will tell you this, that, um, last Saturday I was hanging out with Jim because
Jim was in town for the Sammy Hagar show.
And thanks to Mike Reno name drop, by way Mike Reno the lead singer of Loverboy
got me tickets to the show my dad reached out to him because he knows him and it was a sold-out
show 20,000 people one of the biggest crowds they've ever had at the Sammy Hagar show here
Sammy Hagar is the biggest artist to play in St. Louis he is St. Louis's guy I know a lot of the
Houston people wouldn't know this a lot of the the people from Philly or whoever you watch me, Nashville, you wouldn't realize this. Sammy
Hagar, who's not from St. Louis is like the biggest artist in St. Louis and has been for 40
years. They love Sammy Hagar here. 20,000 people at the Sammy Hagar show was sold out. You couldn't
get tickets for cheaper than five, 600, whatever it was online. So I reached out to my dad because my dad knows Mike Reno.
Loverboy was the opening act.
So I said, Dad, can you get it hooked up?
And sure as shit, I was convinced it wasn't going to happen.
But I go to the, I will call to the box office.
And I go, I need four.
There's four here for Josh Ennis.
And sure enough, Mike Reno
came through my buddy who I've never met, but Mike Reno came through of all people. So I got to have
great seats for that show. And it was fun. And Jim mud was in town with me for that. Then a couple
yesterday, I get a text at like seven in the morning. And if you didn't know this, that, um,
Jim works for Michael Berry,
who is, for those who don't know, is a conservative talk show host, not really in the vein of like
the Limbaugh's and guys like that, but like more, call him a little bit more folksy, you know,
more of a conversationalist, right? And Jim works for him behind the scenes. He's not on the air. Jim sends me a text yesterday and he says,
we're getting syndicated by premier.
Now,
Michael Berry is already syndicated.
I think what you would call self syndicated,
but now they've been picked up by like the biggest syndication company on the
planet.
And Jim's probably about to become rich as shit.
He's already doing so well for himself,
better than he ever did with me. Wait, we were on the air. We had a good time and we love each other,
but financially and everything else, Jim Mudd's living the fucking life. I don't think he has any
debt. His kids are off in college. He's making this Michael, uh, Barry cash. And, uh, so if I
were to go to Jim right now and be like, Hey, you want to come join me in an attempt to launch a podcast?
I'd be tempted to go fuck myself.
Why?
Because Jim is living the dream.
Now, if it was on top of that, maybe he would.
And as I talked about in yesterday's pod, and again, if you haven't subscribed, the podcast is just The Josh Ennis Show.
And look for the pink logo.
The pink, it's black with the pink letters
and everything, the old school Josh Ennis show logo, because there's a couple others out there.
But if I were to say, hey, I want to do this venture where I want to get back to Texas and
I want to create a fucking badass, epic Houston based podcast because no one's doing anything
like that there. No one's having the kind of fun that I want to have. No one's out at the bars like I want to be at.
No one's living that kind of life that I would love to.
I think it'd be huge.
Houston's ripe for that.
And I think if I asked Jim to come be part of some of that stuff, he would.
But I know this, and I know I'm rehashing a little bit from yesterday's episode,
but I'm talking to people live on Instagram right now as well, and some may not know that also go subscribe to the YouTube channel. I didn't even realize it's got like
1500 subscribers. I never use it. So we'll do some live stuff on there once I get everything
set up for it. But I think if I went to Jim and said, Jim, be part of some of the stuff I'm doing
on YouTube, he'd do it. And he would have a fun time with it because he and I are best good
friends. But like compared to where Jim was when I had him come work for me at 790,
which was, you know, he was a producer at 16.
He's making decent money.
But I think whenever I wanted to bring him to 790,
I was able to give him like 10, 15 grand more, something like that,
and made it easy for him to come over.
And he loved working with me and we had a good time.
We'd become best friends anyway.
But there's nothing I could come to Jim right now
who's about to be making Michael Berry money
on Premier Radio networks to work behind his ears.
There ain't a fucking thing on the planet I could do.
I could offer Jim maybe backstage to Sammy,
which, by the way, we did have backstage passes
to meet Mike Reno, but we got there too late.
Maybe we could have snuck around and met Mike Reno and Sammy,
who knows? Sammy's one of my heroes, but it didn't work out that way. And I just got blitzed.
And Jim just enjoys his life of chomping on gummies and listening to his old country music and making Michael Berry money. He can work from anywhere. That's why he and his wife travel so
much. And I never knew Jim to be this kind of guy.
But Jim is able to travel.
Jim is able to go anywhere and not take days off of work because the job he's got allows
him to work remotely like that and make sick money and work for Michael Berry.
His show is about to blow up huge nationally on Premier Radio Network.
Like, good for them, man.
Good for them. So I like back when
I hired him at seven 90, I knew that there was a pause that I would, I, when I was offering him
was better than what he was getting there. I can't offer him. I can't get myself a job.
As I told you guys yesterday, I reach out to some of these places and some of them just tell me to
go fuck myself. If they even answer, I did get a nice answer from one radio station, and I can't tell you who it is,
and they actually at least listen to my stuff, so that's good.
You know who actually has been nice?
I did reach out to 610 in Houston, not because I was looking for a job.
I know they just hired this young guy that's working with Lopez.
Hell, I wish St. Louis would have fired me two months earlier,
and maybe I could have had a shot at that. Who knows? Or maybe I wouldn't have. Maybe they think wish St. Louis would have fired me two months earlier and maybe I could
have had a shot at that. Who knows? But, or maybe I wouldn't have, maybe they think I suck. I don't
know. But I reached out to them and just, I like, I love talking to Lopez who was nice enough to ask
me to be on his show when they did the, I guess that would have been June 10th when they were
doing the 610 day where they were talking to old, uh, six, 10 hosts
and everything. And, um, he, uh, had me on there and it was really cool. Cause I consider six 10
to be kind of my home base. Uh, and I kind of always will. Um, and I know I'm kind of a vagabond.
I'm a guy that gets around a lot. I'm a guy that, uh, you know, town to town up and down the dial.
I know that's kind of who I am, but as far as where I consider my radio
home, and I don't even know how to truly define what I consider, um, home, right. I don't know
how to fully break that down, but if I were to tear them and say, Hey, these are the radio stations
that I consider my stations versus ones that I was just kind of passing through, um, which are a lot,
um, six 10 in Houston would have been number one. I stayed, I think I was there the longest.
Uh, I was there for about four years. Um, I had a lot of fun working there. I had great
relationships with so many people that worked at other stations in the building. Um, you know,
I got to do a lot of cool stuff there. I met Jilly there. I have a lot of good friends there. So like, that's the kind of place that when I go back and look at it, I consider 610 to
be 1A for me.
Like that is the radio station for me.
And then I guess after that, I guess WIP would be there.
And then I would put Nashville.
I liked working with Battle and I love Jonathan there.
And I was actually talking to Jonathan because I was like, hey, do you guys have anything?
And he's like, not for you.
But I was talking with him, and he's like, you know what?
People here miss you, like the people in the building.
I'm like, that's a first.
Usually when I leave, people are like, thank the fuck Christ, this guy's out of here.
So it's nice to hear that at least I made an impression on people and they actually like me.
Now granted, only four people work in the building.
But hey, if all four of those people like me, that's four more than like me at $7.90.
So I got that going for me, which is nice.
But yeah, so, and I can't really get into a ton of details on what happened to me here in St. Louis or anything like that.
Maybe one day I can.
But I'm just not even going to bother with it. But hello, Frank James, who's in this chat that says,
instant chub, you're back. Thank you. Damn right, Nashville on top of the list. Battle,
go tell your boss to bring me back. I'll come back. Although rock radio, classic rock radio classic rock radio isn't like my aspiration in life it's not like what i aspire
to do um i mean i look if it's a fun gig and we're talking and having a good time yes um but my
but my what's the word i'm looking for my passion my skill set does not lend itself to playing 13
songs an hour on a classic rock stage where
most of the songs are 10 minutes anyway.
Like I'm not someone who's programmed to just go out and play stairway to heaven.
That's not who I am.
You know, I, I didn't dislike it.
Uh, I thought I was pretty fucking good at it to tell you the truth.
Um, you know, that's kind of what I do.
Like I, I was able to take something that, you know, look in Nashville.
Um, not that the rock was a bad station before I got there, but, um, Nashville, when I got
there, we went to like number one, pretty quickly.
Me and battle were number one for like three quarters.
I'm getting bonuses.
I'm like, fuck, I'm back.
You know?
So like I can do it.
My preference is to talk with
people. My preference is to do long form stuff. Um, you know, that's what I prefer to do. Uh,
I don't like to sit in a box for four hours and talk for two minutes at a time that bores me.
And I think that that hurts me in some of those situations.
So, yes.
Hello, Connor Burns, who says,
I was too young for the radio but loved you and Jilly on the pod back in the COVID days.
Thank you.
Now I feel old.
There was somebody who was too young to listen to me on the radio seven years ago.
How old are you, 12?
But thank you, Connor.
Hey, Daniel Gotera, hello. Hey, Daniel Guterra, hello.
Yes, I'm repping the White Sox today.
Jilly and I have big plans that somehow if they can set the all-time losses record,
we're going to drive to Chicago to see them.
Bring back the burner phone.
Look, I don't know that you need a burner phone for this kind of shit anymore.
Again, this is very rudimentary what I'm doing right now.
This is a very scaled-down thing.
I mean, I could get a call tomorrow and they could say, we want you in this town. And I got, and I'm going,
you know, my plan is obviously to boost this back up, make it look good, put it on YouTube, go follow the YouTube channel, by the way, Josh and his show. And we can do all that.
And it'll be great right now. This is just a scaled down bare bones. I'm on, I'm in the studio that my wife usually does all
of her shit in. Um, this is a very, um, very rudimentary video setup right now. Uh, but I
plan on, on doing things a lot better. And I told you that my goal is to get back on the radio. Look,
I look, I might take any radio job in Texas at this point. Doesn't
matter the town, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Lubbock. I want to get back down to Texas
and I want to get to within driving distance of Houston so I can build this podcast that I have
in my mind, which is this epic, fun, obnoxious, beer drinking, fun, rowdy party for Houston sports and entertainment listeners.
That's the ambition that I have. That's the goal that I have because I think that's what's missing.
And that's what I want to do. And obviously, there's nothing in Houston right now. But if
there was something somewhere in Texas that I could drive my fat ass down to Houston and do
some shit, I'm down for it because I think it's ripe for it and honestly Houston's my favorite place in the world when it comes to living I love the people there
I'm passionate about the place I consider it a home it's drivable to um to Baton Rouge go see
LSU so that's kind of one of my ambitions there uh god let's see gotta get the video aspect going
so you can clip shit and go viral. Well, I'm working on that.
Uh, ask AJ if San Antonio has a gig for you.
I need to reach out to him.
I do talk to AJ pretty frequently though, uh, because AJ is bad as it's weird that AJ
and I became buddies in the way that we became buddies.
Uh, because again, like he knew of me and I knew of him and I'm sure we'd spoken to
each other.
Uh, but we became just good friends during COVID.
That's how we became buddies.
And he and I chat pretty often and text and how I became friends with all those people
over at 97.5, you know, but yeah, they, so me and AJ are buds.
Look, I'd love to go work with him.
I've listened to his show down there.
I think his show sounds pretty good.
I see that Ace says, RIP Fred. We pour one out or raise our glass to our departed homie fred
but um i think the show that aj is doing down in san antonio
is um in some ways better than the show uh that he was doing at 97.5 and man we had some great
times at 97.5 down there too a A lot of fun, but, um,
but yeah, it was a good time. So, uh, let's see here. Just scrolling through some of this. Albert
Castro, uh, says, yes, he's back. Thank you. Yes. Um, anyway, so, uh, due to do, um, hello, miss Pat and bell Vegas. Nice to hear from you. Look. And I,
and, and as much as I talk about St. Louis and how there's a lot of people that didn't really
like what I was doing or get what I was doing and just didn't want things to change here.
Look, cause this is how I am. I focus on the negative more than I focus on the positive.
That's kind of my MO. There was a lot of positive
shit that happened here in the way of people being very nice. We brought out a lot of people
to remotes. Look, I went to the Sammy Hagar show the other night and I'm getting stopped by
everybody. Man, we miss you on the radio. I appreciate that. That's very nice. There were
a lot of people that actually liked what we were doing. There were a lot of people on the sports that like what I did, but you know how you can just get a feeling about a place and be like,
yeah, this is probably just not it. And it's probably all for the best. That's probably.
Ah, chili keeps this damn room hot. Anyway, so yeah, I know this is kind of another kind of recap pod. Again,
if you guys haven't subscribed to the actual podcast yet, just search for the Josh Ennis show
with the pink logo. I know there's like 10 Josh Ennis shows that are out there.
They're all mine. They're not fake. We just never go away. So they're just out there.
Hey, you can go back and listen to old episodes of the casey show i do that sometimes just to see like did this actually suck or was it pretty good and uh i've listened to a lot of it because
i was having to find stuff to put on a demo and i'm like you know what the shit ain't all that bad
it was pretty good you know just wrong place wrong time i guess but um i thought there was a lot of
it was really good so um well what's been podcast i mean
sometimes scott would forget to podcast things so not every episode is there but um no there was a
lot of solid shit on there you know because i had to put together a demo just to let you behind the
scenes i had to put together a demo for rock you know just in case somebody that's a rock
programmer's like well what do you sound like? And I had to give them this.
And I have a sports demo, and I have all sorts of other demos.
And I got shit on this thing.
The problem is I think a lot of the great stuff is from when me and Jim and Jilly were doing things.
So a lot of the stuff I sent out is still from there.
It's like eight years old.
I'm like, listen, this is the apex of what I can be.
This is when I am at my best.
I'm certainly not going to send you more current stuff that I don't think is good just because it's current, but I thought there was some decent stuff that I did that I put on some of those, but anyway, so YouTube channel. And
again, I'm talking to everybody that's on Instagram, YouTube channel, make sure you check
that out. YouTube search for the Josh and a shows, Spotify, Apple, The Josh Ennis Show.
I appreciate you guys.
Let me try to get out of here and kind of do a little bit more on the actual pod here.
Hold on.
Boy, this room is hot.
How the hell do I get out of here?
And thanks to everybody, by the way.
You guys are killer.
You're wonderful.
I appreciate you.
I'll see you guys on there at another time.
All right, there we go. Now, anyway, going to Indianapolis on Saturday and Jillian and I are,
we're going to go watch the Texans on Sunday. It's an easy drive from here. It's about three
hours, three and a half hours. So that'll be good. I see some people saying that the Texans are going to have a step back
because nobody expected them to be good a year ago. Now people are expecting, I don't buy that.
You got a quarterback, you're loaded with talent. I love the coach. I love everything they do.
The Texans are winning the division. People are like, hey, don't sleep on the Colts. Okay,
maybe don't, but don't sleep on the Texans. I think the Texans are going to be damn good.
They could end up being like, do I think they're going to be the one seed?
No, but would it be completely absurd to think that they would be?
No.
It's going to be a tight race for that.
Could the Chiefs get it?
Sure.
Could the Bengals get it?
Sure.
Could the Ravens get it?
Sure.
I don't think anybody else in the division could. I don't think
the Jaguars are in play for that. I don't think the Colts are in play for that. The Titans are
going to be bad. So they're not. But you go down the list of teams that could be the one seed and
get the bye. The Texans, their expectation should be to be there or be in the running for that late in the season.
And it's believable. That's the fascinating thing. The interesting thing about where we are as people
who consume the Texans and the Texans have been on my radar since the middle of 2009, really,
because that's when I moved to Houston and they've been on my radar ever since.
But if you go back to 2009 when they finished 9-7,
that was my first half season there.
They played the last game of the season at home against the Patriots.
And I think Bernard Pollard had a touchdown in that game.
And the Patriots had Brady play and then took him out, put a backup in,
and they kind of rotated.
It was a weird game.
Game didn't really matter to the Patriots, but it mattered to the Texans.
And not to make the playoffs,
but to have their first winning season ever.
And I think that Pollard had,
he had like a fumble recovery for a touchdown
and I think an interception.
And these are how I remember things,
or this is how I remember things,
just thinking about things that my buddy Bernard Pollard did,
but that's how that was.
And at that moment, just going nine and seven
was a big deal. Then the next year they fall off a cliff and they have these epic losses and they
finish six and 10. Then the playoff year happens. Next man up third string quarterback, TJ Yates,
bada bang. But the next year it was 2012 where you'd argue the most expectations leading up to basically to this point,
if you look from 2002 to 2024, the only other time the expectations were even remotely as high
as they are now was coming off of 10 and six second round of the playoffs. They, they beat
the Bengals in that year. They go on to the second round of the playoffs
lose to the patriots i believe in 2011 they're coming off of that they're hyped you have big
belief in them they go into uh 2012 i think i'm conflating a couple of things here take it back
2011 they go into 2012 really hyped up a lot of expectation and they finish great they play
very well that season they go 12 and 4 they're great hype goes into the next year in 2013 and
they start out 2-0 they have an epic comeback on Monday Night Football against the Chargers
and then it all falls apart they lose 14 games in a row and Kubiak has a mini stroke and all the
pick sixes from Schaub, Case Keenum
has to play. They almost pull off a couple of upsets in places like Kansas City. Wade becomes
the coach. And really since that point, there have been hopes. But even in that era, there were no
realistic hopes that they could win the Super Bowl. That didn't exist for the Texans. That's
not who they were as an organization. When we watched the Texans, we thought, hey, they could win the Super Bowl. That didn't exist for the Texans. That's not who they were as an organization.
When we watched the Texans, we thought,
hey, they could be pretty good.
Matt Schaub is fine,
but is Matt Schaub ever gonna really win the Super Bowl?
If you lined up in a post-season game
and you said Matt Schaub has to go to Boston
or Matt Schaub has to go to Kansas City
or Matt Schaub has to go to Baltimore,
did anybody truly believe that Matt Schaub could do
it? And the answer is no. So you had hopes and the team was watchable and they were good. And
the defense was nasty under Wade Phillips. And like you had like positivity, it wasn't negative.
It wasn't, you know, God, we're going to go two and 14. There was positivity around the organization.
And you think maybe you catch a couple of breaks, you win a home playoff game. And maybe if the
matchup is right, who knows, but you, you didn't have that belief that Matt Schaub could go or
anybody who was going to be the quarterback was going to be able to go to any of those places,
put Pittsburgh on that list as well. Like you didn't believe in any of the, like you knew he
could beat the bangles because the bangles had Marvin Lewis and that was the bangles and they didn't win
playoff games. You felt good playing home games against the bangles. Some of your most marquee
wins in franchise history were against the bangles, beating the bangles with TJ Yates to
go to the playoffs, beating the bangles with the pick six from J J J watt near halftime,
beat the bangles the next year you beat the Bengals. That's all well and good.
But you didn't feel, if you looked at the elite teams of the AFC,
which in that era, elite teams with elite quarterbacks, you'd go Brady.
I guess you'd still, now at that time, Manning was a tougher one
because Manning was kind of in flux.
He was about to go to Denver because he was hurt.
But you could throw in Andrew Luck in his early days in there too.
You'd throw in Pittsburgh. You'd throw in the Patriots, obviously the Ravens.
Those were the teams that you did not believe the Texans were on that level with. You knew
they were fine and you knew they could win kind of a lousy division or maybe whatever,
but you didn't believe that they could truly go in and beat people. Where we sit today, a couple of days,
really a day from the start of the football season,
is we watch the Texans, and we say, guess what?
If they made it to the Super Bowl, it wouldn't be a shock.
Now, it'd be maybe a surprise.
They're not the favorites to go there,
but for the first time in our existence,
as fans of this team, and I put myself
in the category of fan, and I know that people knock me. You got 10 teams. I do. That's just
kind of how I am. That comes with moving from place to place. Even though they suck, I still
love the Saints. But the Texans are my secondary club. That's who I, look, my wife roots for them.
A lot of my listeners root for them. My people
love them. I'm going to the game on Sunday. I'm going to try to make it down to Houston for a
game. I went to a game last year in Houston. That's my club. Same thing. I love the St. Louis
Cardinals, even though they're dog shit right now. But I love the Astros. Like I love Houston.
Houston is my place. I love the people. I love the teams. So I'll consider it an us, a unit here. This is
the first time as someone, and I've been associated with this franchise in some way for the last 15
years, since November of 2009. First game I attended was a Monday night football game against
the Titans. Vince Young and the Titans beat the Texans on Monday night football. Baronis makes
the kick, all that. And since then I have followed every move this team makes.
It's just how it's been.
This is the first time
that we can legitimately,
because we didn't know this last year.
We knew that, hey,
we got a young guy and he might be killer.
He might not.
So last year was a surprise.
Burst on the scene.
Holy shit. New coach, new quarterback,
dynamic plays. Whoa. This year and for the foreseeable future, as long as number seven
is the quarterback, we are legit Superbowl contenders. Doesn't mean you're going to make
it every year. Doesn't mean you're the favorite to make it every year. As long as Mahomes still plays in Kansas City and Andy Reid's calling the plays I don't
know that there will ever be a time that they are not the favorite but let us not forget a couple
years ago was it 19 that Deshaun Watson a pretty legit NFL quarterback before he started getting
jerked off and rubbing tugs and harassing women before well I guess during that maybe it's because
he wasn't doing that anymore that he sucks now you the judge, but Deshaun Watson and the Texans took a massive lead into
Kansas city and still lost that game. And during that game, none of us believe they were going to
hold onto that lead. It was O'Brien, which big ups to Bill O'Brien in Boston college, just,
just given it hard to Florida state who I despise. I hate Mike Norvell with a passion.
So good job, Billy O.
Somehow I like him now.
I guess when he's not your coach being terrible and he's someone else's coach, you like him
a little bit more.
And I kind of like him.
Maybe he's softened up a little bit.
I dig it.
But you knew that Mahomes was going to find a way to win that game because they have a
guy that you look at and say he can do it.
I feel like we've got that guy.
This isn't like some sort of breaking news here.
Anybody who watches him knows that.
If you lined up and took this Texans team with the coaching they have and the talent
they have on the field, which arguably the talent on the offensive side of the ball for
the Texans top to bottom, at least at the skill positions, I'd say the Texans you could argue is better. I get that you still have Kelsey and Rasheed Rice.
I get that. But if you kind of look top to bottom in the relationship that Stroud has with these
guys, wide receiver position, Texans are better. So when I watch them and you tell me, Josh,
what's the difference between the kind of good vibes you might've had in 12 versus the good vibes you have now. Those good vibes were wishful thinking back
then. Like you knew they'd be fine, but it would be pie in the sky optimist. If anybody called 610
when I worked there in 2012 and said, this Texans team's going to the Superbowl, you'd laugh at them
because the other teams had the better guy. Now there are a couple teams that have the better guy,
but you truly believe that in the right situation it could happen.
Like if the Texans lined up and had to go to Arrowhead Stadium
for a chance to go to the Super Bowl,
would Patrick Mahomes be favored?
Not knowing anything else about it, would he be favored?
Yes.
Would the Chiefs be favored?
Yes.
Do they have a head coaching advantage with Andy Reid over D'Amico?
Yes.
But you think you have a legit shot.
That's the difference between that and Matt Schaub going into Foxborough in 2012.
That's the difference.
Quarterback gives you hope.
And back then, I'll give Schaub credit for what he was.
Schaub wasn't as bad as people like to
say, and it ended terribly with all the pick sixes, so I get why people feel the way they feel,
but if you go back and objectively look at it, he had a couple of really good years. He had a
de facto Pro Bowl year. Nobody else wanted to play. He was an alternate. He got in. He threw
for like 4,700 yards that year, so that's fine, but if you look top to bottom roster, coach, quarterback,
this is legitimately the first time in franchise history that it's not pie in the sky optimism
to say that they could go to the Superbowl. Are they going to, I still don't believe it.
There's still Patrick Mahomes. I also don't buy Lamar. So like
people love to blow Lamar, prove it. He hadn't done it. He hadn't gone over there and done it.
Pat Mahomes still got you. Joe Burrow has gone there and at least gone to the Super Bowl. He's
done it. But man, when I look at this, like this is the most fun. Like I, like the years of Brock
Osweiler or go down the list of guys that bill o'brien had
as quarterback i wouldn't make a three and a half hour drive to go watch them in a playoff or a
regular season game i want to go to indianapolis because it's drivable and cj stroud is playing
and this team is damn good and that friends is exciting and that is something that we've never had,
and that's why when I look at the possibility
for Houston being a hotbed
for some sort of epic, badass podcast,
Astros are still the Astros until proven otherwise.
Look what the Mariners are doing.
They're doing Mariners shit.
You know what the Astros are doing?
They're doing Astros shit.
When October rolls around,
I don't write off the Astros ever. They find ways. May not always win When October rolls around, I don't write off the
Astros ever. They find ways. May not always win the World Series, but I don't write them off.
And then you've got the Texans doing what they're doing. It's a sports hotbed right now,
and it's awesome. Well, I got a bunch of stuff to probably get into tomorrow.
Opener of the season tomorrow as well so that's fun I got a couple of
stories that I didn't get into today because I was talking to the people on the Instagram chat
there but again subscribe to the YouTube channel let me know you did it send me some DMs say hello
we're back baby
