Starting point is 00:02:00 the most interesting. Let's get into that, all right? So things in the NFL after one week that are the biggest storylines, maybe not things that are going to continue, but things that made you look and go, huh, there's something here. I'll look at, I'm just going to roll through. I've got the whole schedule of games from last week, the final score is all that. I got the scoreboard. I'm going to look at these, and I'm going to find one thing from each of these games that stands out to me about the big picture of each of the, maybe not each team involved. But from that game, the one thing that stands out to me as a long-term interesting talking point or something, and an observation, a long-term kind of
Starting point is 00:02:39 observation. We will do that after these words. Hey, it's Josh. When I found out my friend got a great deal on a wool coat from winners, I started wondering. Is every fabulous item I see from winners? Like that woman over there with the designer jeans. Are those from winners?
Starting point is 00:07:25 Ooh, are those beautiful gold earrings? Did she pay full price, or that leather tote, or that cashmere sweater, or those knee-high boots, that dress, that jacket, those shoes? Is anyone paying full price for anything? Stop wondering, start winning. Winners, find fabulous for less. All right, let's start with the Cowboys and the Eagles. The first thing that comes to mind from that is, again, that the Eagles are just a machine. They're well-run, arguably the best-run team in the NFL, arguably the best-run team in the NFL, arguably the best-run team.
Starting point is 00:07:57 team in sports and like think about this you've got a team like the eagles who is oh they're always moving like they pick up tank bigsby over the week they were apparently really really deep in on micah parsons and we're willing to give up draft picks howie roseman is really freaking good at what he does he is amazing and it's amazing to me that 10 years ago when i'm in philadelphia this man has sent down the hall and demoted while chip kelly is running wild and i'm over there you know, saying they give the guy some, the guy's pretty good at his fucking job. And people had turned on him. They're like, nah, Chip Kelly must be the brains of this.
Starting point is 00:08:31 If it means we got to get rid of how we fight. And now 10 years later, here sits Howie Roseman, the best GM in the NFL, maybe the best GM in all of sports. And they just keep the train rolling. Oh, Jalen Hertz isn't as good as Josh Allen or Lamar or Patrick Mahomes. Doesn't fucking matter. He's good enough for the Eagles. He kills it with the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:08:52 He crushes it. He fits what they do there. and they're just a fucking machine. Kansas City and the Chargers. I think the biggest takeaway is that, I mean, obviously you lose Xavier Worthy for the year with the shoulder injury. It's more and more apparent that Kelsey is cooked. Like, he is just done. He said last year, hey, I, you know, I was more focused on my acting career, being a Thespian than being this.
Starting point is 00:09:17 I don't know that Patrick Mahomes has legitimately has the weapons to be. successful. Now he's obviously great and he's won with lesser before. My biggest takeaway from this is twofold. I think the Chargers are legit. If you get things going, I think they're well coached. Now they're better coached than they were with Brandon Staley. And I love the quarterback play. I love the weapons they have. Ladd McConkey is obviously great. Like you've got ballers out there that is a good team. Those are two very good teams. I think the Chargers could win that division because it's wild. The Chiefs are kind of like the Patriots with Tom Brady. You'd go into the season thinking that they're not loaded, they're not that stacked,
Starting point is 00:09:57 they're not that good, but then they keep winning the division. Maybe the Chiefs will win 13 games and run away with the division, but I think Kelsey is clearly cooked still, and I think that we're about to see the downside of this Chief's dynasty. And I think the AFC West is really freaking good. Let's see, the Cardinals and the Saints. The Saints may not be as bad as we thought, but that doesn't mean they're going to win any more games than we thought, right? So you look at the Saints. I think they're over under was four and a half wins. I think you could have gotten positive money on under five wins. They're not going to win more than five games. Spencer Rattler is not going to be a viable NFL starter. He's fine. Think about what the Saints are doing. And I heard my buddy Matt say this the other day and I was floored because it just hit you when you actually hear it. The Saints do not have a quarterback on their roster that has won an NFL football game. That is remarkable. I also don't really view the Cardinals as some sort of true viable threat either. Really, if I'm the Cardinals, I'm a six-point favorite,
Starting point is 00:10:59 and I get that it's the NFL and you're on the road opening week of the season and maybe the Saints don't suck as bad as everybody thought they'd suck. But you kind of limped through that game, and it was just a slog. I'm not overly impressed with them, although I love some of their playmakers, man. Let's see, Miami and the Colts. This is the most interesting, one of the most interesting at least, because you've got the resurrection of Daniel Jones. Is it a one-off thing, or is Daniel Jones not fixed, but is a new place, new teammates, change of scenery, get out of the pressure of New York, go to Indianapolis where there is zero pressure?
Starting point is 00:11:35 Is this the place that Daniel Jones is going to thrive? Is this his Tampa for Baker Mayfield? We did a whole show about this a couple days ago about quarterbacks getting to a new place and adapting to the new place and thriving in a new place and thriving in a new. new place once getting out of a more toxic situation. And there's a trickle down. What does it mean for Anthony Richardson, this guy that everybody's in love with? Oh my God, Anthony Richard keeps getting,
Starting point is 00:11:58 Richardson keeps getting screwed. What if Daniel Jones is just the dude there? What if this is his resurrection? And as far as Miami goes, I mean, they look like they're on a death march. After one week, it just looks like Miami is out of sight, out of mind, and Mike McDaniel's
Starting point is 00:12:15 going to be whacked here in the next couple weeks. Vegas and the Patriots, Gino can still sling I think Mike Vrable's a good coach I just don't think they have players in New England I mean they have some decent guys and they put up some passing yardage totals and that's great if you bet that
Starting point is 00:12:31 but the Raiders, my biggest takeaway from this is that we saw the Chargers take on the Chiefs and I think both of those are solid football teams you add the Raiders and we saw what happened in the Broncos, the Broncos are supposed to be good and I think they're going to be good. The AFC West probably, maybe, could be the most competitive division in the NFL?
Starting point is 00:12:54 I mean, look, and look what we saw in the AFC South. Jacksonville won. The Colts of Daniel Jones is doing what he's doing can play. You've got the Texans who I think are still the slight favorite to win that division. All of a sudden, and other than Tennessee, but like, Tennessee is the only bad one, but there's some competitive divisions in the league. Pittsburgh and the Jets, biggest takeaway from that is that Aaron Rogers can still sling. Maybe it just was a shitty situation with the Jets.
Starting point is 00:13:22 But Aaron Rogers, some of the throws he was making looked like a different human than he was last year. If that's the Rogers you're getting, Pittsburgh's going to win a lot of games. They're going to win 10 plus. I think I have them in one of my parlay is to win more than 7 because they're always a lock to be a team that can get to 8. Could they win 10? Could they actually be a viable threat in their division? Like we keep seeing their division and it's always, well, Cincinnati and are they a legit threat? Now, last year they were a threat until they weren't.
Starting point is 00:13:52 But that's because Rusty Wilson sucks. What happens with Pittsburgh now with Aaron Rogers? If that's what we're getting, if we're getting more of that out of Aaron Rogers, I know it's an obvious statement. But if you're getting more of that, Aaron Rogers, they can beat Baltimore. They can play with Baltimore. Absolutely. The Giants in Washington, the biggest takeaway from theirs that we are another, we're still about two weeks or so away from seeing Jackson Dart, but that's going to be a different football team when we do
Starting point is 00:14:17 see Jackson Dart. Apparently, Rusty Wilson is starting this week, probably going to be the end of the road because they're probably going to suck again offensively. And then we get to see Jackson Dart. Credit to Washington, too, because a lot of people had them circled as a let down team and, you know, like coming off of last year. Hey, they got the job done. They kicked the shit out of them. That's more of a Giants thing than a Washington thing, but whatever. Let's see, Jacksonville and Carolina, that was a weird game because of the long delay. Jacksonville's probably going to win that division. My other takeaway is that Carolina is still worthless.
Starting point is 00:14:50 So Carolina is still worthless. And Jacksonville with the way, they did that with Brian Thomas Jr. Being a non-factor, they did that with the game having a long-ass delay. Jacksonville has a very legitimate chance of winning that division. And the AFC South, outside of Tennessee, and who knows what happens once you get Cam Ward, five, six, seven games into his career because he'd made some throws. I was watching Dan Orlovsky talk about it. I mean, your boy was
Starting point is 00:15:15 making some throws. I got a lot of drops. If this is true, eight drops he had, and allegedly four were in the fourth quarter. So I thank them for dropping it because I needed Denver to win, so thank you. But I think the AFC South is going to be super competitive as well. And not just competitive because all the teams
Starting point is 00:15:31 suck. Like there are divisions like that in some years where every team's fighting for eight and eight. I think Jacksonville's legitimately good. I don't know what the Texans are. and then you could throw in the Colts if Daniel Jones continues doing that, of course. Cincinnati and Cleveland, wild. The first thing that comes to mind thinking of that game is Joe Burrow has so many games where he throws for 350 and four touchdowns and loses.
Starting point is 00:15:54 This game is one of the worst he's ever played and they win. Who knew? Figure that one out. Good job Joe getting the W there. My thought is they won that game playing like shit. Their offensive line is still not very good. Defense is fine against the Cleveland, but let's see what. happens. I still don't think their defense is that good. Their offensive line is still a problem.
Starting point is 00:16:12 But 17-16, got the job done. They win a game that Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase are basically no-shows. Tampa and Atlanta, I love both of these quarterbacks. Fucking love them. I cannot get enough a baker. I am in love with this guy, and I think Pennix is going to be a rock star. I can't wait until the second game of this series. I just love this rivalry. The NFC South sucks. The Saints suck. The Panthers suck. But the two-tons. Top teams, Tampa and Atlanta, are fun as shit. And I can't wait for the next time these two teams play. I love the redemption of Baker Mayfield.
Starting point is 00:16:48 I think Pinnix is going to be a stud. I took him to throw for over 4,000 yards this year and he's well on his way. Love that game. Can't wait until they play again. These are two teams that are loaded with playmakers, fun, explosive teams, young quarterback, redemption story quarterback in Baker, cannot get enough. I'll be honest with you on San Francisco and Seattle. I don't think I saw second of that game
Starting point is 00:17:10 because I was trying to watch the Detroit game for obvious reasons. Here's the biggest concern. If you're San Francisco, you're missing Kittle for a couple weeks now. You've got other dudes dealing with injuries. Purdy's got issues. I think San Francisco came into this year as an overrated team. People thought they'd bounce back. I don't think they're going to bounce back.
Starting point is 00:17:29 They won this game. Good for them. But I'm not buying into San Francisco. Denver, when I think of Denver beating Tennessee, They did what they were supposed to do. They were the biggest favorite of the weekend. They won by eight. Good for them.
Starting point is 00:17:43 When I look at Denver, I go back to the AFC West thing. The AFC West is fun. And even with a team like Vegas, I don't know what Vegas is going to do, but I know that Gino can sling it and Pete Carroll's fun. So I got that. I've got Denver, who I don't think is going to fall off a cliff this year. I've got the Chargers and the Chiefs. That division's going to kick ass.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Detroit and Green Bay. My first thought that comes to this one is, I worry about Detroit. And I think everybody does after that, but new coordinator, so you give them a little bit of time, but their offensive line play wasn't very good. Defensively weren't, they weren't very good. There's a statistic about Jared Goff, and it's something like he's won a shit ton of games with Ben Johnson and with Homeboy in L.A. McVeigh, and he has not won a football game with any other offensive coordinators. Now, you're probably going to see numbers similar to that with a lot of people, like shocker, you have a good coach and you're successful. Who knew?
Starting point is 00:18:38 But, yeah, I think Detroit's a concern. I think they're still super competitive and they're going to figure it out. But what if Jared Gough turns back into a pumpkin without Ben Johnson? You know, like those are the thoughts that come to your mind. They're loaded with talent. Skill players, they're one of the best teams in the league in terms of skill players, arguably the best running back duo in the league. You got Amin Ra, one of the top receivers in the game. James and Williams just signed a new deal.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Laporte is fun at Tied in. Like, they got players. Watch out for this Isaac Tesla that they drafted. He can play. But offensive line is truly a concern. And Green Bay, I'll believe it when I see it with Green Bay, because everybody's in love with Jure and Love, but what is he won? Texans and Rams.
Starting point is 00:19:25 I don't really, didn't learn much about the Rams from that. What I did learn is the Texans need to figure shit out. I'm also concerned about them big picture. The Texans' big picture is, like, what are they? Their offensive line play was bad. Play calling seemed bad. Defensively, they were fine. I guess if you want to look for a positive,
Starting point is 00:19:45 the offense looked dreadful. CJ wasn't very good. But you got the ball near the red zone late in the game with a chance to win a peanut punch beat you. But maybe you drive and win that game and we look at it differently. But they are truly in a bad way offensive line-wise. They didn't look good in that one. Rams, I don't take much from that game. Like Stafford can still sling.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Like, if he's healthy, he's still very good. They lose Cooper Cup. They replace him with Devante Adams. That's an upgrade at this point. So they've got skill guys. Like, the Rams are still there. Buffalo and Baltimore, just fucking, I mean, what else do you take away from that? You take away from the thing that Josh Allen continues to be incredible.
Starting point is 00:20:23 And Lamar can play as well? Harbaugh continues to blow late games. But can Josh? Like, it's hard because Josh is so good. But then you look at him and go, hey, can you actually win the whole thing? And until proven otherwise, first thought, that comes to mind is no. And then Minnesota and Chicago, if you would have asked me in the first half,
Starting point is 00:20:40 I would have said, well, Ben Johnson's fixed Caleb Williams. After four quarters, you go, no, Caleb Williams, maybe can't be fixed. And really the first thing that comes to mind from that game is I still think J.J. McCarthy sucks, and I don't think he's going to be a great NFL starter. He sucked in college. He just handed the ball off in college. He sucked for three quarters in this game. And then he found some sort of miracle in that game and good for him and give him credit.
Starting point is 00:21:03 You don't knock him for winning a game. but I don't think he's any good. And I don't think Minnesota is going to win a ton of games either. I was buying into Chicago. It's hard to do that after they collapsed the way they did in that game at home. So that's the biggest takeaway from that. And that's the biggest takeaway from all the games in the weekend. And we'll have more to come.
