The Josh Innes Show - Caitlin Clark Is Lady Tiger Woods
Episode Date: May 28, 2025Caitlin Clark is injured. She will miss the next few weeks. The ticket prices for games have plummeted . I don't know that any athlete has ever meant more to a particular sport than Clark means to ...the WNBA right now. It's crazy. I attempt to find some comparisons. Also, it's hysterical how the rest of the WNBA doesn't want to accept this reality. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

So I don't want to spend a ton of time talking about the WNBA, but I understand that we've
done multiple episodes almost daily about this, but that's more about a cultural story
and not the product on the court, because if we're being honest, no one gives a shit
about the product on the court.
They only care about the female drama in it and the WNBA's dumb investigation for the
monkey noises, which is concluded, and we're just enjoying watching the WNBA eat itself. It's fascinating, and I want to be clear
I'm not rooting for the demise of the WNBA because I dislike the idea of
there being women's basketball or anything like that. There could be a
billion different sports. I don't give a shit. Women's lacrosse, women's tennis,
men's gymnastics, whatever. I don't give a shit. It's just funny watching people who've been given this
opportunity, this golden goose, an opportunity for a league
that's been a money loser forever, but you're given this
golden goose, you're given this opportunity with this Caitlin
Clark, and you guys hate her so much that you will let it ruin
your league. It's funny to me. If this were men doing this, I
would find this funny. If men
in a particular sport, if there were like men's water polo and somehow there were some
freakishly huge celebrity that was a water polo player, yet the other water polo players
couldn't handle the fact that this new water polo player was getting all this attention,
that they sabotaged water polo, I'd laugh at them
too, and I would want their demise because I like when people lose when they don't understand
the bigger picture.
That's probably one of my great skills is understanding the bigger picture.
Doesn't mean I always do the right thing and I fuck myself up a lot of the time.
You could literally sit here and say, Josh Josh you were making hundreds of thousands of dollars to talk about on 790 in Houston and all
you had to do was not piss off the Houston Rockets yet you couldn't help
yourself. Look I'm one of them. I totally get it. When you look back on that it's
very easy to say, Josh every opportunity you've had you found some reason to fuck
things up. Totally. Maybe I want other people to suffer in the ways I've suffered at my own hands
so I enjoy watching these idiots in the WNBA ruin their
opportunity and turn their league into a soap opera
because they don't like Caitlin Clark. But I'm not going to
spend a ton of time talking about that. But Caitlin Clark
is out for a couple of weeks with an injury and you want to
know who's got the worst of this? People who bought tickets to see Caitlin Clark the last couple of weeks. an injury and you want to know who's got the worst of this people who bought tickets to see Caitlin
Clark the last couple of weeks. Let's play for the next couple
of weeks. I should say let's play a couple commercials and
we'll give you the details.
This is fascinating. So this headline reads Caitlin Clark
injury effect ticket prices drastically fall with Indiana
fever star out. So let's I don't know. I haven't read the details of the story and I don't drastically fall with Indiana fever star out. So let's, I don't know,
I haven't read the details of the story and I don't know where the Indiana fever are playing,
but like let's imagine you're a road fan, like she's playing the Chicago sky on the road or
playing the Phoenix Mercury on the road or the New York Liberty on the road or whatever NBA lady
teams there are out there on the road and she's playing them and like some little girl has an
opportunity to see Caitlin Clark and dad bought her a
birthday gift and went on the secondary market and spent a
shitload of money on tickets to see Caitlin Clark and then
there is no Caitlin Clark. I don't know that there's not a
human in any other sport that has this effect. Not one and
maybe it's because like in baseball like Otani or Aaron
Judge would be the kind of guys that people
want to see. Well, if they come to town, you're going to get
three opportunities to see them. It's not a one-time deal
and it's not an event sport like basketball where there's only
you know, relatively speaking half in most instances half of
the baseball games, you know, so you it's a different world.
I've been trying to think of other athletes that would truly have
this kind of impact on a sport or have ever had this kind of
impact on a sport like the obvious answer is like Tiger
Woods. If Tiger Woods is playing in your golf tournament
during Prime Tiger Woods, those tickets are going for a shit
ton of money versus you know, hey, our biggest name here is is
VJ Singh like okay nobody
gives a shit but if Tigers play like the Houston Open if Tiger would play the Houston Open it'd be
a huge deal if Tiger didn't it wouldn't have the same impact like and Tiger of course would always
play the majors in the big tournaments but it's it's the same as it is in every other sport well
basketball is kind of like golf in this way where like some of these dudes will choose their load management in cities that aren't as glamorous. Like Memphis fans
would always feel kind of screwed because like, oh wow, LeBron, load management on the day LeBron
comes to town. Like that's to me when people like, like it's one thing like to like load management,
real talk, for some of these guys should happen at home. You play 41 home games every year in the NBA. LeBron's
load management should happen in LA and not in Memphis. Like
people are never going to have the opportunity to see LeBron
or Memphis or New Orleans or places like that. But anyway, I
digress. But like a Tiger Woods, if he played the Houston Open
or the St. Jude Open or whatever it's called in Memphis, that
would be a huge deal for those tournaments. If he didn't, it wouldn't be a
huge deal. Caitlin Clark is like that. Like maybe when
McGuire and Sosa were coming to town during the home run chase,
I know that that was a huge deal and like I lived in Baton Rouge
and I knew people who were driving from Baton Rouge to
Houston to see Mark McGuire in Houston, but in that era,
they'd probably play nine or ten games in Houston over the course of a season, right?
So like you'd have multiple opportunities, but it was a huge
deal to see Mark McGuire or Sammy Sosa in 1998 or Barry
Bonds in 2001, but very rarely is there a player that you will
spend premium dollars to see in this era that like totally
changes the game and changes the ticket price. Now, if you find like if
you find out that like you've got 76ers tickets and you find
out on the day of that LeBron is not going to play then those
ticket prices are going to go down in value, but nobody does
what this Caitlin Clark does and who knows how long that's
going to last. It might be a very fleeting thing, but very
few people in the history of sports have had this impact.
Like I would imagine like when it was Michael Jordan's
farewell tour with the Wizards, like a buddy of mine and his
dad went to see Michael in New Orleans on that final tour. I
say final tour, but it basically was. I mean the team went very
good. It was like a farewell tour for MJ. I bet those tickets
were far more expensive then than they normally
would have been to see the New Orleans Hornets. So, I mean, obviously people have had moments
and farewell tours will have that impact, but nobody has the impact. Like, Caitlin Clark
is Tiger Woods. Like, if you think about a sport that's kind of off-brand that the masses
don't consume, the masses weren't consuming golf and the masses certainly weren't consuming
the WNBA
but you bring somebody in and somebody completely changes the game. That's why it's hysterical to
watch these dummies in the WNBA piss away this golden goose of an opportunity. It's called all
boats rise with the tide man and they don't understand that they don't get the concept of all boats rise
with the tide. Anywho, Caitlin Clark injury effect ticket prices drastically
fall with Indiana Fever star out. The Caitlin Clark effect has brought a
plenty of attention and high demand to see the Indiana Fever but the WNBA is
seen an opposite side of
that effect, less intrigued when she's injured. Clark will be
sidelined for at least two weeks as she suffered a left quad
strain following Indiana's 90-88 loss to the Defendee and
Champion New York Liberty on Saturday. Missing two weeks
means Clark will miss at least the next four games, and it's
had a drastic effect on ticket prices for those contests, particularly the two road games during that stretch at the
Washington Mystics and at the Chicago Sky. Hey, good for Angel Reese. This can be her
little moment. Maybe they'll get a win. Let's see. Ticket prices have drastically
fallen since Monday's news of Clark's injury. For the four games Clark will miss, the average ticket price was 71% more expensive prior to the news than
Tuesday as the averages dropped from $137 to $80 according to tick pick data
provided to USA Today Sports. The road games in Washington and Chicago have
been heavily impacted as both removed to bigger arenas to accommodate the demand to see Clark." God, that's fantastic! That's hysterical! They're like, guys, listen,
we normally play in smaller arenas, but Caitlin Clark's coming to town, so we're going to play
in the big arena. And then what happens? She's hurt. You have to acknowledge it's funny because
they deserve this. They deserve this because they're stupid. They deserve it. And by the way,
like I can understand to a degree like living in a world
where like you think you're a big deal and then someone else
comes in here and you feel you're better than that person
and this person gets all the attention and I can see where
it would kind of piss you off. I understand that world.
But you also have to understand the world you've been living in.
Like you have to be delusional to think that three years ago anyone gave a shit about the WNBA.
So you may have been the best player in the WNBA three years ago
and now this other person comes in and you're jelly
and you're like this bitch is coming in here trying to steal my sunshine and steal my moment.
Well guess what?
I guarantee you weren't moving to bigger arenas
because of something that someone in the league three years ago
was doing but now you are. So maybe you should kiss this
chick's ass. You can play up the role of hating her all you want
but you might want to understand that you're all potentially
going to make more money because of this person but you don't
understand the bottom line because you guys are stupid
because you're not used to being in a situation where anybody
gives a shit about what you're doing. The Washington game
moved from Care First Arena to CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore,
which has more than 6,000 extra capacity. Prior to the injury
news, the cheapest ticket sold for the game was $41 per tick
pick. Now the get-in price is $14 as of Tuesday night.
The average purchase price went from $115 to $83. This person is the star and you guys
refuse to acknowledge it. Again, I'm not asking you to bend over and kiss someone's ass, you
know, like publicly, but man, you guys seem to to really really hate this chick and be super duper resentful of this chick and she is the reason that people are paying
attention to your shit. The Sky vs. The Fever game was even more affected as
it was supposed to be another edition of Clark vs. Angel Reese, which by the way is
not a thing. A forward that can't shoot versus someone who can hit from the logo
is not a true rivalry.
This is not Bird versus Magic here. This would be like if you were like, hey look, it's Magic
versus Robert Parrish. It ain't a rivalry. The contest was moved to United Center, the
first time WNBA games would be played in the 20,000 plus seat arena. On Sunday. The cheapest ticket was $86 on Tick Pick as of Tuesday night. It's now $25.
So Angel Reese look, I just want you to know that people are
watching the games for me too, and I want y'all to understand
that respect that yes ma'am. So when they thought that Caitlin
Clark was coming to town, they moved the game to United
Center and the tickets were at cheapest $86 to get in and now they are $25, $60 cheaper for the get in price.
The average purchase price was $210.
The average ticket price for Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese at the United Center was $210. Now the average is 95.
That is a 121% change, a drop in 121% over a day when they found out
Caitlin Clark wasn't there. Honey, they're not there for you. They are there for her. Yes, I give you credit for
talking shit to her and building this racial thing with these
dipshits on on on I don't know out kick but they are not there
to watch you miss layups and rebound them. They were there
to see her in your town. That's got to just rattle you to some degree.
For the home games, May 30th against the Connecticut Sun and June 3rd versus the Mystics, the cheapest
ticket option on TickPick are $13 and $11 respectively.
Freaking wild, man.
So the first game she might be available to return is June 10th at the Atlanta Dream.
Didn't know that was a team.
The cheapest ticket for the contest at Gateway Center Arena is $147.
The next four road games after that against the Golden State Valkyries, the Las Vegas
Aces, the Seattle Storm, and Dallas Wings all have get-in prices of at least $100, and
the game against Paige Becker's in Dallas starts at $141.
Like look if you have any self-awareness, if you're Angel Reese you're like, fuck.
You mean to tell me the lowest ticket price to get into this game at United Center was
$86 when they thought old girl was here.
Old girl isn't here and it drops 121%.
That's got to be a little bit of a shot to the psyche, right? It's it's hysterical and it's just hysterical that
these gals in this league and the internet don't seem to
grasp that this is the moment and the moment's happening
because of this person. She is the **** Beatles right now.
She's Kendrick Lamar playing a like giant football. Kendrick
Lamar is coming to St. Louis and playing
the football stadium. We still have a football stadium even though we don't have a team.
They're going to play in the football stadium. She is Kendrick Lamar. She is the Beatles. She's
filling up stadiums. They moved your game to United Center because of her because she's not there. They quite literally could move your game to DePaul and you wouldn't fill it up. It's wild.
