in tears on the field after a fan yelled derogatory comments about his deceased mother at a rate
field on Tuesday night in Chicago.
Let's see, let's read some of the story.
Manager Tory Lovolo put his arm around Marte near the mound during the
pitching change in the bottom of the seventh inning. Marte wiped
tears from his eyes repeatedly during the half inning. The
incident angered teammates, including shortstop Giroldo
Perdomo, who went on an expletive laden rant in which he
called for Major League Baseball to do more to police the
behavior of fans. Well, I don't know what the hell you're going
to do to police people yelling inappropriate shit. I mean,
you can kick them out of the ball game, I guess, but that's about the extent of it.
They're not going to put you in fucking jail for yelling something at a player. Marte declined
comment through a team spokesman following Arizona's 4-1 win in which Marte hit a home
run. Marte's mother died in a car accident in the Dominican Republic in 2017, an accident that
occurred not long after Marte had talked to her on the phone. See the manager said the comments
were made toward Marte during his at bat in the top of the seventh inning. The manager and the
bench coach asked to have the fan removed. The man was ejected according to the team's spokesman.
That can't happen, Perdomo said. Everybody knows how Cattel is. He's fun. He plays the game hard.
I feel bad for him. I feel mad about it. I hope MLB can do something with that guy. I don't know
who it was, but they've got to do something. They can't continue that shit here in Major League
Baseball. Well, again, what are you going to do? It's not like you can like you can't arrest somebody for being an asshole
You can't put them in jail. You just ban them from the ballpark. I'm sure which I think has already happened in fact
Predomo said he should be banned for sure. I think that's already happened
I think that's come down here in the last couple minutes, but okay. So here we go White Sox ban
Fan for taunt of cattel Martez late mother.
Let's play some commercials and let's talk about this.

So the thing that's weird about this, and I always hate this, and I'm not saying this
guy did or didn't say something terrible.
We have no idea what he said.
Multiple people heard it. people that are reputable
Heard it so I'm sure the guy said something fucked up
but like
I'd like to know what it was that was said in the context in which it was said now
That is not me saying go out and be an asshole
That's not me saying hey go to the ballpark and treat players like shit
But that's kind of part of what goes along with it. People say fucked up shit.
People take shots at you.
People end up fighting with you.
And oh by the way, in this world of basically no limits on how much booze you can buy at
a ball game and all the betting and shit you can do on sports now that these leagues are
in bed with by the way.
I mean hell, whenever you watch a baseball game in most cities, you're watching it on
fan dual sports network.
Okay, before that it was ballies. These leagues are in bed with betting, they're in bed with alcohol, right?
So like, what do you think is going to happen when some jemokes are at a ball game, they're
hammered, maybe they're betting on the game, maybe they're pissed off, whatever it is,
and they're going to say dumb shit to people, and you have to reap what you sow as a league when that
type of shit happens. You want to keep making money off of these vices, if you will? I mean, dude, that dipshit, I'm not defending the dipshit who jumped over the
the stands in Pittsburgh, but that dude was fucking hammered. And dudes that were of age
were buying an underage dude booze. Now he was 20 years old, so is it really that big of a deal?
But still, that's what you're getting. You're getting more people who are angry about betting.
We talked about that with the Lance McCullers thing when everybody was like, oh, that's what you're getting. You're getting more people who are angry about betting. We talked about that with the Lance McCullers thing when everybody was like,
oh, there's a viable threat on Lance McCullers life and Lance McCullers children.
Now I was like, that's probably just some asshole that bet on the game and was talking shit.
And sure enough, it was just some asshole who bet on the game and was talking shit.
Now, it doesn't make it right, but that's how this shit works.
Now, I have no idea what this guy said.
I don't know if this guy knew that the guy's mom was dead.
It may have been a situation where you're talking shit about somebody's mom, like people
talk shit about moms.
Again, I have no idea, so I'm not defending it, but like I'll tell you my situation.
I've told you this before.
Like the time I was talking shit about this guy that was a writer in Philadelphia who
was saying that I sucked and I said, go play in traffic and then everybody got worked up
because apparently this guy had been hit by a car before and I'm like I didn't fucking
know that.
I don't know who this person is.
It's just a common phrase go play in traffic.
So is this that type of situation where he's like saying something about your mom like
go home to your mommy or some shit and the guy didn't even know that could tell Marta's mom is dead. Who knows that? Like that's the
other thing I would say is I have no I I didn't know that like I don't know could tell Marta's
backstory. I don't know about the death of his mother. I don't know how she died. I don't
know. It's not my life and I don't recall the story. So does this guy know that Marte's mom was dead
and he was using that to talk like this is going to sound like I'm defending the guy.
But I will say this. I do have a little bit more faith in people that I just don't believe kind of
like when you hear stories about how somebody's throwing out racial slurs at a ball game and
you're like I find that hard to believe because I just don't
believe someone's going to be in the stands yelling racial slurs
at someone. This isn't, you know, Mexican soccer here. Like
I just like while people are shitheads and we got a lot of
bad people roaming the earth, shitty people, and people are
hammered at ballgames and all that. Like anytime I hear a
story about inappropriate comments from fans and their
racial, I'm like, can we kind of dig down a little bit deeper in
this and see? Because a lot of times when we hear about this shit, it kind of goes away.
You know, like monkey noises in Indiana, which magically just went away after a nine day
long investigation found that there were no monkey noises. And maybe I'm just a jaded
person. But when I hear about this kind of stuff,
I struggle because I wanna know the context.
And a lot of people view me as a bad guy
because I just don't look at things on the surface.
Because really, I guess what you should do
is anytime you hear fan in the stands,
shit's on guy's dead mom,
your first instinct should just be,
oh, what a piece of shit son
of a bitch and grab your pearls and go to Twitter and say this guy is terrible but my
first thought is okay I want to know what he said I want to know the context of what
he said I want to know I want to know everything now in this case you've got multiple people
managers coaches whatever hearing the shit these people were yelling. I just don't know.
Like I want to know what was said. Like the guy has admitted that he said the things he said.
So is it a situation where he's just doing general insults, throwing out general insults at someone
and oops, it just so happens that this guy's mom died in a car accident or was he like saying
something like, oh, you're're as bad as dead mom.
Where's dead mom like I don't know.
And so I went to read it and I was like when like the people who root for the team of the
fan who did the bad thing always kind of ride in and they want you to know that the rest
of their fans aren't shitheads like I saw.
It's like Philly people right but? But like Philly's different.
Was there a fan story this weekend? Oh, like there was like a fight in the stands at the
college baseball championship. And every time there's fans that fight in something, the argument,
you see like a Philly fan pop up and they're like, Oh, I didn't know Philly fans were at the college
World Series. And they say that sarcastically, as if to say that Philly fans are the only bad people to do shit.
They have a complex about that.
It's actually sad.
They're complex about that.
It's lazy, low hanging fruit sports radio topic there every time a fight happens somewhere
else, who would imagine that happened in Philly, right?
Like that's what you get from those people.
But what you end up with in this case is you get fans that ride
in on their white horse and want you to know that they're ashamed
that players or fans that root for their team do that and that
not all their fans are like that. So like this one from nine
hours ago on Reddit, if anyone is aware of what was said to
Cattell Marte tonight, it was unacceptable. Diamondbacks fans
are donating to MLB charities in honor of his mother. We would be honored if we if you chipped
in like, so somebody said something and now you guys are
going to donate money to charity to somehow make you feel better
about yourself over something you didn't do. Like, like this
guy said something we don't none of them know what it was. Like
this person says if you're aware of what was said to could tell
Marte it was unacceptable. So are you intimating to me that like, actually, let
me read the story. Something was said about Marte's mother who died in a car accident
in 2017. We don't know exactly what was said, but we can show that there are thousands of
good people for every horrible comment made. It would mean the world to our fan base and
I hope to Kat tell that something good comes
of this. Here are the D-Backs charities but feel free to give however much or however
little." Look, if a guy said something about a dude's dead mom it's a really shitty thing
to do, but I'm not going to reach into my fucking pocket and pay like and donate money
to some charity because some dickhead of the 14 people at a White Sox game, some dickhead
yelled out something about a guy's mom, I'm not going to run to charity. The shit people
do online fascinates me. It's like they pearl clutch and they're like, can you believe all
this bullshit? Can you believe this? That he said this? Now, if it was something heinous,
like when we did the bit in Philly where we raised the money for the women's center in Dallas, well that was because the Cowboys had signed Greg
Hardy and Greg Hardy was a known piece of shit, and like that made some sense and we
raised like $40,000 I think it was or close to it over a weekend for a women's center
in Dallas.
Like what, like so some asshole yells like something about this guy's dead mom at a
ball game and you expect people to line up to donate money?
Go fuck yourself, man.
No offense.
It's possible for you to be appalled by something without you having to send money to someone
to make up for it.
What the fuck are we doing?
Let me read some of the comments, see if anybody actually knows this.
Or if somebody's...
Oh shit, they won't let me look at some of those.
But let's see.
Let's see, I swear sometimes fans just treat players like animals in a zoo exhibit.
Well, the thing is, and I'm not saying to be assholes at a ball game, but part of being
a fan and buying a ticket is talking a little shit.
It's possible to go too far and perhaps this was.
Again, I cannot tell you the guy went too far if I do not know what he said. And there's too much shit that we have seen where people have made shit up that
I don't believe shit. So like, fault me, say I'm the dickhead. I need to hear what was
said.
Let's see. This is some La Liga shit. Well, yeah, that's what I said. Mexican soccer. Let's see. I don't know in
what world it's acceptable to yell at zoo animals either lol blah blah blah blah. And
look, I'm not defending the dude. But everybody what I don't like is when people are so quick
to rush to the internet with no evidence at all
They don't know what happened. They've got the word of somebody and that's fine
Like I'm going to assume I will give the player and the manager the benefit of the doubt that someone said something shitty
But I'd like to know what it was in the context of what was said
Did this person even know the guy's mom was it did any of you listening to this podcast?
And there's a good number of you that listen how many of you listening to this podcast, and there's a good number of you that listen, how many of you listening to this podcast today even know that Cattell Marte's mom was dead?
If you did, fine. I had no fucking clue. So like, I wouldn't know to pull that one out of the
holster and be like, I don't know, it's weird. I will say that it's a strange situation. That's all.
weird is all I will say that it's a strange situation. That's all. I also get annoyed when a fan does something bad and then everybody on the team every other fan has to let you know that
their fans are not all bad and this guy's a bad apple and don't let them spoil the whole bunch girl
like like like if some asshole punched somebody at a Cardinals game my first thought wouldn't be
run to the internet let everyone know that we're not all like that.
Well, no shit, of course you're not.
How many times does someone get punched at a ball game?
Not that often.
How many people are at ball games?
Thousands of people.
One dude at like, let's say 3 million people go to baseball games in St. Louis or Detroit
or Chicago or wherever over the course of a year.
How many times does someone get punched in the face?
A handful?
The percentage is very fucking low.
So you don't need to run to the internet and let the whole world know that your fans really
aren't all that bad.
We're really just good people.
Don't let that impact us.
Lord.
Anywho, let's see.
Let's get to some other stuff.
Now again, I want to be clear.
I don't condone saying dumb shit.
I don't yell dumb shit at people. I will yell shit at refs like sometimes I'll get super worked
up about refs and some calls, but I'm not going to shit like
that's just not what I do. I don't go to a ball game to shit
on people and I think if you it's fun if you fuck with players
and you do it in a cool way and like you're not a total
Neanderthal about it like I have no issue with that. That's part
of buying the ticket right like that's part of the interaction, especially in a
sport like baseball. Football, it's harder to do. Baseball,
you can be sitting out in right field and the right fielder's
out there with an ear shot and you can just shit on the guy
and that's kind of part of it. When you throw out racial slurs
and shit, things are a little different. But or in this case,
ripping the dude's dead mom. I don't know, like the guy's been
banned, fine. I'd like to know what was said and maybe someone
will eventually have it. But one thing I will not do is run out
to the internet and tell you, I just want to let you know that
White Sox fans are really good people despite this guy. Yes,
there's millions of White Sox fans maybe in the world. And I'm
gonna assume they're all shitty because one guy yelled some shit
like I don't know, whatever. Alright, more to come.
