The Josh Innes Show - Do You Believe Anything?

Episode Date: May 13, 2025

A friend of mine told me that I'm bordering on "Facebook Uncle" status as it relates to me believing that everyone is full of shit. Am I wrong? Is it wrong that I don't have faith in people? Is it w...rong that I don't believe anything I see on social media? Is it wrong that I think everyone has an ulterior motive? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Glad you guys are with us today. Appreciate all of you for listening, all of you for downloading.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Tell your friends to download. Hell, even if they don't listen, just tell them to download. The more downloads downloads the better That's a way we can make a couple of bucks doing this and hopefully you find it entertaining as well I'm not just doing this like hey, I'm gonna try to make a couple of bucks. I'm gonna provide shit content for you I'm actually out here trying to do some shit. You'll find entertaining. I know it's not what I've always done I know I don't have a cast of people around me. I know it's just me and my dog sitting here in our underwear Well, he's here in our underwear.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Well, he's not in his underwear. He's technically naked, but I'm in my underwear every day doing this. So you guys have some stuff to listen to, some quality entertainment. Some of the episodes are better than others. I shouldn't say episodes. They're segments. I try to treat this like a radio show would be podcast, and that's why I podcast them separately in each individual Segment because there might be something you're interested in and that you're not like I got a buddy that listens that doesn't care about the NBA
Starting point is 00:02:11 So he just skips those episodes listens to the other shit. So I get that I respect that I'm cool with it I know that there's a lot of commercials I'm trying to get all of them in as early in the episode as possible So then we can just have a nice long stretch of 15-20 minutes of exciting discussion. But look, I appreciate you guys. Tell everybody about it. Feel free to send me an email, joshannishow.gmail.com. DM me if you'd like on whatever social media you use other than Facebook, of course, because I'm not on Facebook because Facebook is terrible but I appreciate you guys. You're awesome, you're great, thank you, I appreciate it. The support is awesome
Starting point is 00:02:51 and hopefully it just continues to get bigger and hopefully we get a job somewhere soon and then we can kind of get back to doing a full-on pot and maybe you wouldn't even like that. Maybe you like it better the way it is now, but the ambition is to eventually get to a point where it sounds, you know, it's got Jilly involved and you know, it's more like that, not just me, you know, telling stories and ranting and raving, but maybe you enjoy that. I don't know. But anyway, all right, let's play a couple commercials here right out of the shoot and let's talk about conspiracies. All right, so I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and this friend of mine, well here's how it all started. When I saw the
Starting point is 00:03:32 Lance McCuller stuff the other day my first thought was okay this is convenient that this guy is getting death threats on a day that he pitches like shit and now the story isn't the fact that he pitched like shit. Now the story is that somebody, some Yahoo sent a death threat. We don't know if it's a viable death threat, we don't know, but the guy pitched like shit and right after the game his manager's like, this is unacceptable, and the story becomes that fans are awful and terrible and no one's talking about Lance McCullers sucking, right? And that was my angle on it. So I was talking to my friend about this, and he's like, I don't know, I
Starting point is 00:04:07 think you're kind of like tinfoil hatting this thing. I'm like, I'm not really tinfoil hatting it. I don't trust anything. I think everybody's full of shit. And he says, you know, you're bordering on, you know, your uncle on Facebook kind of territory with your thoughts. And I'm like, that's not fucking true. My thoughts, generally speaking, are not outrageous thoughts. I just don't trust anyone and I don't believe anyone and I think everyone is pretty much full of shit. Is
Starting point is 00:04:33 that terrible? Like do other, I feel like other people feel this way. I feel like other people feel the way I do. I feel like other people see things and don't take them on the surface. That's everybody, right? Like the second, like and it's not just like news stories. I really don't trust news stories because I think news people have become more inept. I think news giving has become more inept. I just, I don't buy into the news. You know, you see stories and you see people. We talked about
Starting point is 00:05:04 this the other day. There was a story on like the Channel 4 news here in St. Louis on their website and the story was about how the Bengals could move to St. Louis and in the story, the only details given about how the Bengals could move to St. Louis is that the Bengals may not get a stadium, thus they may relocate. Thus, the fans speculated that maybe it's possible that they could move to St. Louis. No other information was given. News outlets run with it. I'm listening to sports radio the next day and dipshits
Starting point is 00:05:38 on the radio are talking about it like it's real. I do not trust the news and it's not because of Trump. It's not because of right wing, left wing. I don't believe trust the news and it's not because of Trump, it's not because of right-wing, left-wing. I don't believe in the news because I don't believe that it is really a credible outlet anymore. I think we're hiring dipshits. I think people are bad at their jobs. I think people are extremely biased one way or the other. I don't trust news. I don't trust cable news. I don't trust anything when it comes to that. I don't trust social media, right? But I got a buddy telling me, hey, I think you're almost tinfoil hat uncle on Twitter type of guy, uncle on Facebook now when you're talking about
Starting point is 00:06:12 this McCullers thing. I'm like, listen, I'm not dismissing that somebody said something vile and that somebody said something terrible that is a threat or whatever and I'm not defending it, right? But what I am saying is it is convenient. That was my point that I told him it's convenient that this is the day we get all worked up. When you've already said you've gotten death threats from people before, I'm talking to this friend of mine, he's gotten death threats before. I've gotten death threats before. You don't know if they're viable or not. So again, I'm not telling you that Lance McCullers is full of shit that it didn't happen. I'm sure
Starting point is 00:06:44 that it did happen and I'm going to tell you Lance McCullers is full of shit that it didn't happen I'm sure that it did happen and I'm gonna tell you that the Astros aren't full of shit and that it didn't happen I'm sure it did it was just convenient the way it played out with the story and the way the story went from seven runs and a third of an inning to we have to have a referendum on how terrible fans are and how awful everybody is and blah blah blah blah blah so with that said I'm apparently tinfoil hat guy. Apparently I am uncle on Facebook guy. But I think I represent most people.
Starting point is 00:07:13 And I think most people have hit a point in our world where everything is such bullshit that you cannot trust anything. And it's tiring, it's exhausting. Don't get me wrong. It is exhausting to sit here every day and every single story you read you are skeptical of. I believe nothing. Absolutely nothing. Was that the old tagline for
Starting point is 00:07:36 the X-Files? Was it believe everything or believe nothing in one of those type of deals? I don't trust people. I don't trust the internet. I don't trust people. I don't trust the internet. I don't trust the news. And it is exhausting. If you are like me, you know what this is like. You would love to just be able to log on, see a story about something and go, ah, I buy it. But you don't because it's impossible to buy it. And why can't you buy it? Because you don't buy anything.
Starting point is 00:08:01 And why don't you buy anything? Because everybody is so full of shit that it is impossible to believe things. We talk about this all the time right you look at the internet how many times do you see someone doing something and the first thing you think is they're clearly full of shit they're doing this because of the social currency they're doing this because it'll help them with their job like I like like I work in the media world or I
Starting point is 00:08:23 did work in the media world and maybe I'll work in the media world again at some point who knows but when I see people my first thought is what's in it for them. Are they saying something they truly believe or are they afraid of being canceled? Are they afraid of being fired from their job? Are they saying something because they want people to love them more like I listen to sports radio all the time and I feel like 99% of the shit I hear from people is just trying to get a reaction from people.
Starting point is 00:08:51 I don't think these people believe the shit they're saying. I believe they are all in their little cities, are all part of their little team cults. I think that these people go out and just say whatever they need to say to get the most likes and retweets from people. I think most people in social media, sports media are all full of shit and are saying things that they think they need to say for the sake of existing. I don't want to work in that world. I don't want to operate in that world. I hate that fucking world. It is, it's just like tell me this, when you see the way people rush to the defense of someone or you see someone
Starting point is 00:09:24 say something, when you see these things, what is your first thought? When you see the way people rush to the defense of someone or you see someone say something when you see these things What is your first thought when you see someone? Like saying something that's so fucking Pollyanna and bullshit Are you like do you really believe that or are you just saying that because that's what you think you are supposed to say in this situation I Fear that we are in a part of our world now I fear that we are in a part of our world now where people don't even know what their real thoughts are anymore because they're petrified to have them one way or the other. And we've got some fucked up people in the world too, man. Like you go back 15 years ago when I got to Houston, I never felt like black guys, whatever, don't like me, Mexican guys don't like me, whatever. I just felt like dudes like me or dudes didn't like me. Now we all specify via race whether or not we think this group likes us or not.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Apparently there's this new thing on the internet called black fatigue is a thing and it's like white people who are all just, we're sick of all the black people shit, right? Which on one hand sounds terrible to say something like, oh, there's black fatigue. But on the other hand, white people have been told they're fucking terrible for the last 15 fucking years, right? So like, what did you think was going to happen? Then you see videos of black dudes who are also like, I also have black fatigue. Then you go, then you go look at the comments on some of these things,
Starting point is 00:10:40 right? And it's fucking crazy. When you look at the comments, and I know the comment section is kind of the worst of the worst, and usually people's names aren't on it. And it's fucking crazy. When you look at the comments, and I know the comment section is kind of the worst of the worst and usually people's names aren't on it, and there's either like a picture of George Washington wearing a MAGA hat as a profile picture, or there's you know some like hardcore liberal person with like a nose ring like a bone sticking through their nose like one of those type of nose rings you know. and like these people are fucking lunatics. But when you read the comments on stories, these stories, these comments, it is impossible to have any faith in anything. Now, are some of these probably bullshit and
Starting point is 00:11:17 bots and shit just to try to piss people off? Yes. But you see some of the shit people say and you're amazed that anybody says them. They're fucking wild and that goes for all groups. That's black people, that's white people, that's whomever. You read these comments and you're like holy fucking shit we are doomed. Like and I'm telling you and I say this all the time, social media is the death of our society. It's given a voice like I hear something I believe not everybody's voice matters. Some people are just dipshits and shouldn't have a voice there. That's mean. That's whatever. It's reality. That's the problem I have with what the way the media world is now. It used to be there
Starting point is 00:11:59 were some people that had a voice and you might have disagreed with them, but you'd go okay, whatever. Now everybody's got a voice and what I've learned and no matter what the subject 99% of these people are dipshits. They're either if it's sports they're super homers that want to fight with people on social media about their team and have nothing insightful to say. If it's politics it's this side is right you're wrong. If it's anything it's just stupid. People are dipshits. This world is loaded with stupid people and not everybody should have a voice. You should say whatever the fuck you want, but your voice, not everybody's voice should have impact. Not everybody's voice should be impacting
Starting point is 00:12:36 people because I'm of the belief that either some people are really fucking stupid and are putting their shit out there and people are gobbling it up or that people are just deliberately putting out horrible things to try to drum up controversy and everything else. Because I'll hear people's opinions on shit and I'll go, there's no way you fucking believe that. There's no way you believe that, but you're doing that because you're addicted to the rush you get
Starting point is 00:13:01 from people liking your shit. And I get it, it's intoxicating. It really is when you start posting shit like I'll post random shit about Philadelphia, like nine out of 10 things won't get anything. But like if I post like one day I posted about how great the Philly parade looks like it was, I think got like 10,000 likes and it's intoxicating it like it engulfs you and it can alter your opinion on something like deep down. I know that me working in
Starting point is 00:13:29 Philadelphia would just lead to me going crazy again because I hate everything about the way sports radio operates in Philadelphia and it drives me **** bad **** like it's just I hate the topics. I hate the way the topics are approached. I hate the **** low hanging fruit questions debate for callers because the hosts aren't very good I hate it and I know I hate it But then I'll post something like that and get 10,000 likes and I'm like well shit I might just go to Philadelphia and try to dominate again
Starting point is 00:13:56 Even though I know deep down it probably is a disaster and deep down. I'll probably hate it and deep down I'll be fighting with people on social media. I'm like, you know what, in this very moment, I just got 10,000 likes on a post, I think I can make it. Oh, I just got 700 likes on this, I think I can make it. And that's what social media does. Social media has this amazing ability to turn you into someone,
Starting point is 00:14:20 to make you believe something that isn't real. I mean, 99% of the shit on there isn't real. The hate that people allegedly feel for each other in the country is not real. It's all manufactured by social media, but you see it and then you get angry, right? Like I swear to you, my Twitter ends up on for you and I don't put it there.
Starting point is 00:14:41 And I won't even notice, I'll scroll through and then I'm seeing shit that I'm like why the fuck am I why am I seeing Jason Whitlock videos I don't want to see Jason Whitlock videos so then I click on the Jason Whitlock video because it's talking about this black fatigue or whatever right so I click on that about black fatigue I'm watching this video and I start looking at the comments and when I tell you that like I'm amazed that people are so
Starting point is 00:15:05 emboldened to say the shit people say. Shit that nobody would ever say to a human to their face and I know I'm explaining how social media works like duh Josh but it is fucked the things that people say. Fucked. And I'm like how does this get out there? Like, what are we doing? This is terrible. And that's just kind of the way the world is. And the fight will be, well, it's free speech and you should be able to say whatever you want. Sure. But man, people say some fucked up shit.
Starting point is 00:15:36 I mean, just gnarly stuff, dude. And I'm like, how do you put that out there? Like, how do you type that in and fucking hit send and hit and be a press send? It's bonkers. And that goes for everybody because I've told you go look at like an urban radio station social media and like see a video of like of you know like I don't know a picture of some black dude with a white woman and just go read the comments. I mean it is just a it is just a non-stop white people are terrible. Black dudes who fuck white women are terrible. I mean it's I mean it is just a nonstop, white people are terrible, black dudes who fuck white women are terrible.
Starting point is 00:16:06 I mean it is just a nonstop fucking, like it is nuts and it is not just one group of people that do it. It is fucking everybody and it is bonkers. So back to my friend who tells me, oh well then you're just, you're like the uncle on Facebook that doesn't believe anything. Why would I believe anything? Trust me, I'd like to just I'd love to believe everything I see. I'd love to believe that everything is fine.
Starting point is 00:16:32 I'd love to believe that like when there's some story about some homeless guy that, you know, helps somebody with their car and then gets all these donations from people on GoFundMe. I want to believe it's real, but then we find out it's not real. I just question everything and I can't help it because I would love to be naive to these things and not do that. I would love to be like these people that get out their little pitchforks and say oh sports fans are terrible and death threat like I'd like to do that but my first thought is not hmm like this person's a piece of shit it's hmm why are they
Starting point is 00:17:05 bringing this up because I'm sure guys get hate all the time why now oh why now because the guy gave up seven runs in a third of an inning ah yes and that's my issue I don't trust anything I don't believe in anyone when I see someone deliver an opinion on something like I wish I had that. I so badly wish I could be full of shit. And that might sound like the most arrogant thing anyone's ever said. I wish I had the ability to be full of shit, but I don't. I wish I could get on there.
Starting point is 00:17:35 And like, there's a block that I have inside of me that will not allow me to do it. If someone was like, hey Josh, here's a job, go in there and act like you think blank blank and blank are the greatest things ever. Like I don't know that I could and maybe that makes me a dip shit and maybe you're like what the fuck bro and maybe I could if the opportunity came about if someone came to me today
Starting point is 00:17:55 and said go to Fox Sports one and say that LeBron's the greatest fucking basketball player ever and that white people need to shut the fuck up and I'd be like, okay, it's million bucks. Why not? But I hate it. Like I hate disingenuous people. I hate people that are just saying shit for reaction. I hate it. It's just not what I'm
Starting point is 00:18:17 into. So again, I'm not trying to be holier than that or some sort of sanctimonious fuck. I mean, I've done my fair share of dumb shit. So I'm not telling you that I'm perfect or whatever. I'm just telling you that I'm so put off by everything I see because I feel like everybody's full of shit and everybody's just saying what they think they need to say because people are addicted to social media and they're addicted to the likes and they're addicted to the reaction
Starting point is 00:18:39 of people because it is addicting. It is easy to get addicted to that shit. So and the thing is I started this whole segment with the intention of talking about the NBA draft lottery and now I've gone almost 20 minutes on just the idea of people being full of shit. So here's what we'll do. We'll do that in the next segment.
