You don't hear it?
Oh, I don't even notice it.
I usually drown it out with the radio.
How's this?

Way better.

Mayor of Kingstown, new season now streaming on Paramount Plus.
I think I'm going to go see Rocky 4 in the theater tonight.
Although I know that this Rocky 4 director's cut is also like on Amazon Prime and I could watch it for free at home.
I want to see Rocky 4 on the big screen like it's 1985.
the way the good Lord and intended it to be seen.
I told you that over the weekend I saw Back to the Future in the theater, and it was lovely.
And out of all the movies I've seen lately, and I don't know if Demir still listens to the podcast or not,
but I think he can attest to this because he runs the movie theaters in Houston that I go to a lot of movies.
Granted, I go in off hours.
Like I'm not going at peak times.
I'm not going at 7 o'clock on a Saturday or at night usually.
Generally speaking, when I go to the movies, I go to the movies.
you know, one in the afternoon on a Saturday.
So it's not totally fair.
But there were times in life when the movie theaters were full of people at, you know, at 1 o'clock on a Saturday.
And depending on the movie, I'm sure they are.
Like the big superhero movies I'm sure still do or K-pop demon hunters or whatever shit, I'm sure those are still full.
I tend to also see movies that are kind of offbeat or whatever, not, you know, the big name movies, right?
So maybe that impacts it.
But generally speaking, when I go to the movies on a Saturday, I will be lucky to be in a theater with five other people.
I saw Spinal Tap a couple weeks ago at a mall movie theater and an outlet mall.
And there were me, Jilly, and I think there was another couple in there, like a man and a woman, and one other dude.
There were five total people seen Spinal Tap.
What else have I seen lately?
I saw him, which was the number one movie at the box office.
The week it came out, and we went to see it a couple weeks ago.
I think it was in its opening weekend.
It was in one of the biggest theaters in the place, and this is the God's Honest Truth.
I saw him.
It was me and Jilly and not another soul in the theater.
In the biggest house they had, two people.
Very rarely do I go to a movie that they're a full house?
I couldn't tell you.
Maybe the closest I've come to full houses are when we used to go to the movies in St. Louis on
Tuesday nights because it was cheap and people would go. So like we saw Beetlejuice. It was a pretty
full house. We saw Twisters. It was a pretty full house. Tuesday nights, we'd get a full house
because it was cheaper tickets. It was at night. So tonight we'll probably encounter more people.
But first of all, let me play a couple commercials and I'll continue.
You know what's better than the one big thing? Two big things. Exactly. The new iPhone 17

So we went to see Back to the Future.
It was in an IMAX theater.
Also, these theaters here, and there are some that have good seats, but I'm amazed by the number of
movie theaters in Michigan that don't have recliners.
And these theaters are so old that the cup holders are not even equipped to handle the giant
morbidly obese person-sized cups of sodipop that you get now at the theater, the barrels
of sodipop.
Like the cup holders are so small that they were like made to hold like, you know, a 16-ounce
soda.
Like that's how old these seats are.
And we went to see Back to the Future, which you want to talk about something wild.
For 50 bucks, they were selling this Back to the Future popcorn holder and cup.
But the popcorn holder actually lit up like it was the Delorean.
It was pretty fucking cool.
I didn't buy it.
But it was pretty cool.
There were more people in the theater on Saturday afternoon seen Back to the Future, a 40-year-old movie, a movie celebrating its 40th anniversary.
There were more people in the theater for that than there were for any other movie we've seen since we've moved to Michigan.
And we've probably seen 10 movies since we've been here, give or take, 10?
Maybe 6, 7.
like that point being there were more people seeing a 40 year old movie than seeing current
movies than we've gone again maybe it's not the end all be all maybe that's because you know
we see movies that are a little bit more offbeat that you know maybe people aren't seen like
spinal tap and other shit like that you know those are the kind of movies that we go see
what was the movie we saw the other day that we thought was really good there's another one
it wasn't back to the future obviously was good it's one my favorite movies of all time but back
to the future is great. There were more people seeing that than seeing others. I would imagine
that tonight, if I go see Rocky 4, the director's cut, I would imagine that we're going to end up
with more people in that. That'll probably be one of the biggest crowds we've seen for a movie
here would be for Rocky 4. People love nostalgia. And Rocky 4, director's cut, is certainly
nostalgia. And that is something I am looking forward to. So that's probably something I'm going to
see. I probably have to do it. Like, I feel like I must go to this movie because it's Rocky
and I love Rocky and all that. What was the damn movie we saw a couple weeks ago? We saw a movie
a couple weeks. Good fortune. I know I talked about it on here. Good fortune was really
fucking good. I would urge you to go see that. It's with Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogan
and Assisi Sansari and what's her name, Kiki Palmer. It was actually a really good
movie and it had a solid message.
It was funny. I laughed my ass off
at it. Good movie. I would
encourage you to go see that movie.
Other than that, like I think last
weekend was one of the worst box office weekends
and forever. You start
to look at the totals. They were
down a ton last week. Mostly
because you've got shitty movies like the Springsteen
movie that are out.
But Rocky 4, back when movies were movies,
can we all agree that
Rocky 3 is the best of the Rocky
sequels? And one of my exercise
that I do pretty regularly is, you know, ranking the Rocky movies, right?
So if you, and none of my opinions have really changed, and I'll tell you the truth,
I don't remember a lot of the shit that happened in any of the Creed movies.
They have not been rewatchable movies for me.
These Creed movies, that's the difference.
You could argue that the Creed movies are better quote-unquote movies and more, you know,
they're better overall movies than, say, Rocky 4 if people are looking for, you know,
winning Oscars and getting great reviews.
They're not rewatchable.
That's one of the things I've learned about movies in this era is there aren't a,
there's not a huge rewatchability factor for a lot of them, right?
So, like, Rocky 4, you could watch 1,000 times.
And maybe it's because you watched it when you were a kid.
But maybe it's because it was just designed to be a movie that people want to watch.
It's a pleasing.
It's a people-pleasing movie.
I could not tell you what happened in any of the Creed movies.
I saw all of them, right?
I think there were three,
where there are three Creed movies?
I saw them all.
I know the basic concept of them.
I know the backstory,
and he's Adonis Creed and he's Apollo Creed's son
and Rocky Trains him and all that shit.
Like, they were Rocky movies.
They were the same fucking movie.
Then you would go out there and be like,
well, this one has, you know,
Dolph Lundgren's son.
It was Rocky Four.
Like, so I don't remember any of those.
They don't stick with me.
They don't, like, I don't watch those,
you know, rewatch them.
I have never once turned on one of these Creed movies.
I have watched Rocky 4 1,000 times.
I've watched Rocky 3 1,000 times.
So I am not going to include the Creed movies because the Creed movies don't mean anything to me.
But the best of the Rocky movies just straight up could watch it a thousand times.
My favorite Rocky movie is Rocky 3.
Now just the favorite sequel.
My favorite Rocky movie is Rocky 3.
Just straight up watchability, hour and a half, put it on.
It's fun.
We're fighting.
33% of it is a music video.
And that's been determined.
Someone actually watched Rocky 4 and counted all the minutes that were music videos and montages.
And it's one-third of the movie as a montage.
So you get the point.
So there's that.
I would go three.
I would go one.
I would go four.
I would go five.
No, sorry.
I take that back.
Three, one, four.
Five.
I would go with five.
Rocky Balboa and Rocky 2.
Rocky 2 will always be my least favorite because it's just a regurgitated Rocky 1.
He's slightly dumber.
He's got a little bit more money.
He's slightly dumber.
Adrian is slightly less enthusiastic about him fighting.
Training montages, same shit.
It's the same fucking movie, except he wins.
So, spoiler alert, he wins.
So Rocky 2 will be at the bottom of the list for me.
Always be at the bottom of the list.
Rocky Balbole was a shockingly good movie
because when you hear that there's going to be a Rocky movie
for the first time in 16 years
you're like, how are they going to make this work?
They made it work.
Rocky 2 is a really good movie.
Sorry, Rocky 6.
I guess that would have been Rocky Balboa was pretty good.
Couldn't tell you anything about the Creed movies.
I saw them once, never watched them again.
But tonight, I think I'm going to go,
tonight I'm going to sit my ass.
I'm going to spend money to see a movie I could watch for free.
Same with Back to the Future.
But when I tell you, Back to the Future,
hit differently on the big screen,
especially in IMA screen.
It wasn't in 3D or anything like that.
So it's not like this was a movie that I was watching like with goggles on or some shit.
But when a screen is that large, you notice certain things you didn't notice because my whole life has been spent watching back to the future on screens ranging from 18 inches to 65 inches.
It's never been something I've watched on a giant IMAX screen.
So you start to see little details in the movie that you didn't see, like little placement of little things, like things in the background, things you never noticed before.
And you didn't notice them before because you watch them on such a.
small screen, you don't see them. And in some cases, maybe it's condensed and made smaller for
television, so it's just not in the shot anyway. But I loved it. And like, I'm watching this.
And it's, like, there's a home feeling about watching movies like that. And I think that's the
era we're in right now. Find me a movie that you're going to watch that's brand new in this
era that you're going to watch 100 times. And not even young kids from this era. There aren't movies
that young kids are watching right now that they're going to rewatch a hundred times. Like,
I don't think there are. When we were kids, they all were like that.
You'd watch the Sandlot a hundred times or Little Big League a hundred times or Rookie of the Year a hundred times or home or bound a hundred times.
Home alone.
You watch all these movies a hundred times.
I don't know if there are movies that are coming out now that kids are rewatching to that level.
I don't know that this is the era of rewatching movies.
I think it's kind of a one-off and then you go into your podcasts or you go into your whatever.
And I don't know.
And part of it is because I think the movies suck.
I don't think people are seeing good movies.
but what comedy comedies are the ones that people rewatch the most are like action movies or comedies
what comedies are out there that people are going to go and rewatch that a young kid sees now for the
first time laughs his ass off and maybe I just don't know because I don't relate to kids I don't
know but what movies are like that right now that people are just rewatching to that level
and I don't know that they exist and maybe we were just a different generation since we didn't
have phones and we didn't have online sports betting and we didn't have all the technology
these kids have now, maybe we just had to re-watch movies because that's all we had.
You know, like what other option did you have? You weren't going to go, what are you going to
go, what are you, a fucking book? What are you, a nerd? No, you're going to sit around and you're
going to watch movies a hundred times. You know, that's just what we did. Kids today can go watch
a new porn every five minutes on the hub, on their phone. They don't need it. So I just don't
think that exists anymore. Like that movie, good fortune that I saw. I will probably
never watch that movie again. And it's a great movie. I told you, I went to see it. I laughed
my ass off. It was a great movie. I will probably never watch that movie again. The thought
of watching that movie again will never cross my mind. I will watch it once. It will disappear
into the ether. It'll be gone. It'll go into the air and disappear. Poof, in a cloud
of dust. And I'll never think of it again. Yet, 20 years ago, I went to see wedding crashes,
which I think is also coming back to the theaters. I'll have to go see it. But wedding crashes,
I saw five times in the theater alone.
I would just go see it randomly because I thought it was fucking great.
And I've watched it a million times.
I don't think we're ever going to have that again.
Like that's a good radio topic.
Again, I don't get a ton of calls, but I think that'd be a great radio topic.
And I've got to write that down somewhere.
That's a solid topic.
But like we don't do that anymore.
We don't rewatch movies anymore.
So anyway, more to come.
