The Josh Innes Show - Drunken College Football Ramblings
Episode Date: September 21, 2026LSU Lost. While I'm upset, I just don't feel the same angst I would have in the past. Why? I think part of it is because I don't believe the dudes playing at these schools care as much as they once... did. So why should I? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Oh, hello, friends.
What time is it?
It is 12.06 in the morning on Sunday into Monday.
Sunday night football is over, and I am just in here in the studio.
I don't know how many beers deep I am.
We did Miller Lights Day.
It's been forever, really, since I've had a day of Miller Lights,
and I do enjoy a good Miller Life.
I mean, I drink Bush Lights most of the time,
but I just felt like kind of a different taste, you know?
and the Miller lights brought the heat.
So I've got some Miller lights,
and I've got a couple sitting in front of me right now.
We've been, I mean, we started late today, actually,
because I didn't start drinking anything until after the Saints game,
which, by the way, Saints got a big win as like a nine-point underdog against Baltimore.
Eat shit Baltimore.
Eat shit, Lamar.
Eat shit everybody.
As the Saints are now one-in-one, so that feels nice.
That's good, especially after the fucking LSU game on Saturday where we got our dicks knocked around a little bit.
It was nice to see the Saints get a nice little win.
Saints should be 2-0.
They were robbed of the game against Detroit because of the intention to throw the ball forward despite throwing the ball backwards, as you know.
But the Saints are one-on-one, which brings me great joy.
I really love this Tyler Shock, man.
I dig this dude a lot.
He's got balls on him.
Now, they start slow every damn game.
That's the problem is they were down 17 to 9 at one point in this game.
Maybe was it 17 to 3 at one point?
Yeah, because it was 17 to 6 at halftime, right?
And my man's out there and, you know, they have slow starts, slow start, a lot of puns, nothing really happening.
And then in the second half is just kind of like, fuck it, yolo.
I mean, is that the best way to put it?
They just kind of yolo this shit.
And the Saints rally again, and this time they actually get the job done.
Now, first of all, let me play a couple of conversations.
commercials here and we'll continue.

I mean, if we're being real, okay, I don't believe that Chuck on the,
on both of those attempts at the goal line that were quarterback snakes,
I don't believe either one of those got in.
Okay, fine.
You want to bitch and say they didn't get in?
You want to say the Saints cheated?
You want to say that was bullshit?
Okay, fine.
You can do that.
Or, I could tell you the reality, which is, on the fourth downplay, Shuck got his fucking head ripped off.
There was a face mask where the guy's head was almost twisted at half.
It was like the Exorcist.
They almost twisted my man's head off, and nobody called it.
Therefore, I don't feel bad about you blown the call.
Also, the Saints got screwed week one.
on a call I've never seen before, something I've never heard before, the intention to throw it forward.
So, fuck off. Oh, by the way, the Saints got screwed out of a Super Bowl by the worst no call in history.
So, by the way, I don't give a shit if you think the Saints got the benefit of a call to win that game.
Good, good. I'm glad the Saints got a fucking call that benefited them to win the game because we never get calls that benefit us to win the game.
So eat shit. And now we're one and one. Like, are the Saints a playoff team? Probably not.
Who knows what the Saints are?
But at least they're giving me some sort of pleasure, you know.
In previous years, the last handful of years, the Saints haven't been worth watching.
The first two weeks of the year, two pretty tough games.
I mean, the Lions are possibly, probably, maybe a playoff team.
And now you look in that division, who knows what's going to happen in that division,
if Caleb's out for an extended period of time.
So that kind of opens the door a little bit more for the Lions.
So the Lions very well could be a playoff team.
Baltimore is going to be a playoff team.
And the Saints went toe to toe to toe with both of them.
Could have easily won both of those games.
Could be a 2-0 football team right now.
So, you know, they're not.
It is what it is.
But, um, I, look, I find myself enjoying watching them.
Now, as it relates to LSU shit, and I'm kind of all over the place, but I've had a lot of beer.
So whatever, bear with me.
It's, you know, 12, 10 in the morning.
Here in the central time zone, it is very, uh, late, okay?
Uh, just wrapped up watching Sunday night football, a little.
while ago. Actually, look, I don't even know where to start. It was a giant weekend, great
weekend of football. College football, nothing overly special happened outside of LSU losing.
I'm not shocked that LSU lost. Where do I start? Shit, where do I even start with this shit?
I was surprised that the Lane hate game didn't have more drama than it did in terms of the way
the fans reacted. Now, that when he went back to Tennessee a couple years ago, people threw
shit on the field, but that was also because there was a really bad call and there was everything
else. The Ole Miss people didn't throw shit on the field. I was hoping for more drama. There
wasn't more drama and good for them. Ole Miss won their little Super Bowl and that's fine.
Once they lose Trinidad Chamble's, which by the way, let me start there. And I'm not bitching
that Trinidad Chamblez can play. I don't care that he can play and I'm not trying to tell you that
he shouldn't. But the whole world sat there and told you that LSU was trying to bring in pro players,
Pro players.
Okay, that was the whole point.
LSU was trying to sign pros.
All right, well, let's look up Dayquan Wright.
All right, Dayquan Wright.
How old is Dayquan Wright?
Deiwan Wright is a, let's see, he's 23 years old.
All right, Dayquan Wright, 23 years old.
He was an off-season or practice squad player with the Eagles and the Browns.
Didn't do anything with those teams.
But he is 20, sorry, he's 22 years old.
Actually, he just turned, wait, is today his birthday?
the 21st, how about that? My man turns 23 today. All right. Now, let's look up Trinidad. Let's see,
Trinidad Chambliss. Trinidad Chambliss is, how old? 24. Just turned 24 back in August.
So how do we really determine what makes somebody a pro or what makes somebody someone who stayed too
long in college? Because remember that Trinidad Chambliss went to court and fought to get a six year
of eligibility and he got it and I have no problem with that.
But the whole world seems to think that LSU is a bunch of cheating sacks of shit,
a bunch of people that go out and try to bring in pro players.
Well, this dude's fucking 24.
So when I ask people, I say, well, tell me what makes, and by the way, I'm not, LSU didn't
lose because they didn't have Dayquan ride or whatever.
I mean, it is what it is.
LSU lost because they weren't good enough.
That's reality.
But when we start looking at this shit and people start talking about pro players and you
say, well, LSU was trying to bring in pro players and that's not what you should do.
All right, well, then I ask, what makes a pro?
Because to me, somebody getting paid to do a fucking job makes them a pro.
And they'll say, well, it's more than that.
It's about like age and maturity.
Great, Trinidad Chamblez is 24.
He's been playing college football since 2021.
It is 2026.
So please, cut the shit.
Like, we've got to get out of this world where it's like, oh, my God, we, you know, there's this idea that these guys are amateurs.
They're not fucking amateurs.
None of them are amateurs. Trinidad Chambliss went to court.
Where are all the details on this?
Let's see.
Trinidad Chamblis, he goes to court to fight for a six-year of eligibility.
November 2025, Ole Miss filed a waiver request with the NCAA to allow Chambliss a six-year of eligibility as he did not play during his sophomore season at Farris State in 2022 due to persistent respiratory issues.
And you know what they did?
They're like, hey, brain.
it on. And they did. They went to court on February 5th, 2026. Chamble's appeal was rejected again,
following another appeal, a judge granted Chambliss an injunction and allowing it to play a six year
that was on February 12th. Nobody cared about that. But LSU goes out here and they're like,
well, we're going to get a guy who was granted another year of eligibility after he had already
left. And it's like, oh my God, LSU is trying to bring in professional players.
Like if you have an issue with some guy leaving college and going to the pros for five minutes and then coming back to college, that's one thing.
But cut the shit.
Cut the shit about LSU bringing in pro players.
It's such a dumb fucking thing.
You know they're not pro players.
They never play the snapper pro football yet you sit there and dick swing over this.
It's all fucking stupid.
And then you get guys who are 24, 25 years old playing college sports.
And it's like, no, that's not a big deal because Lane Kiffin's not there.
coach. If Lang Kiffin were their coach, you think it's the biggest thing ever. If Lane Kiffin were the one
fighting to get Trin-Trenad Chambliss another year of eligibility and it was to play for Lang Kiffin,
you'd probably have a problem with Trinidad Tramblis. I also understand I just said Trinidad
Tramblis. I've had a lot of beer, okay? So, LSU game. I really don't like this Sam
Levitt. In fact, I hate him. I liked him when he was at Arizona State. He was kind of, you know,
a little nice little story there in Arizona State. It made a college football.
playoff push a couple years ago, and that was a fine little thing.
But it's a different world when you're hanging out at LSU and playing in the SEC
as opposed to kind of flying under the radar at Arizona State and whatever fucking conference they play in now.
Shit, man.
Like, I have a thought.
I have college football thoughts here.
Please indulge me in my college football thoughts for a minute.
I liked college football and college athletics more when at least it kind of
seem like these guys wanted to play at the universities for more than just money, right?
Like, money was always involved and people are getting paid under the table.
Like, I'm aware of that, and I get that, okay?
That is what it is.
What I don't like, actually, let me rewind.
Look, I'm an LSU guy.
I lived in Baton Rouge for a large part of my life.
My family lives in Baton Rouge.
I love LSU, okay?
Went to LSU for a couple years.
I love this place.
There was a time when it felt like.
Like you would get guys from the state of Louisiana and they went to LSU, probably because they were getting paid under the table, but also because it felt like that's what you were supposed to do.
You had a commitment to Louisiana State University, to the state of Louisiana.
You were in.
You grew up there.
Your family loved LSU.
You loved LSU.
Your family wants to watch you play at LSU.
And there was a passion for playing at LSU.
And you might stay there for two, three, four, five fucking years.
And you'd be like, okay.
Like, that makes sense.
Like, there's a passion.
Then I watch slap dicks like this Sam Levitt.
No offense to Sam Levitt, but Sam Levitt took four and a half million dollars to
come play at LSU.
I have no idea if Sam Levitt has any passion for LSU.
Like, he probably came here because there have been multiple guys that have won Heisman
trophies and have won championships at LSU.
And it's like, hey, this is the best bet for me.
Oh, and by the way, I'm getting paid, you know, four and a half million dollars a year.
So my passion for it is not nearly as strong as it used to be because I don't see any of these people, okay?
I don't see many, many of these players.
I'm sure there are some, but most of these players that I watch do not come across to me as people that are there because they have a passion for LSU.
And maybe there's a naivete about that coming from me, and I understand that.
But it's not just LSU.
Imagine you're in Pennsylvania, and it's Penn State or Pitt or wherever.
or you're in Texas and it's UT or it's A&M or wherever.
Like you want to believe that those guys are at that university,
at least in some part, because they have a passion for it and that is where they want to be.
Right.
Like that's the belief you want to have.
As someone who, like, your fandom doesn't waver.
Like you don't jump ship in every four, you know, every year you go to a different place.
You don't root for LSU this year, then Florida this year, then Kentucky this year.
These dudes jump from place to fucking place.
You are a fan of a team.
You have a passion for that university and that team and you have your entire life and it will never change.
If you're an LSU fan, a Texas fan, a Penn State fan, an A&M fan, whatever it is, you have a passion for that university and it will not change.
And while you know that some of these guys are in their third or fourth stop and they're making a million dollars here and a million and a half there and four and a half million here, yes, that shit sucks.
And like you don't want to live in like a fantasy land where that's not the case.
but you'd at least like to believe that these people who are playing for the school that you have passion for,
you want to believe that they have a passion for that school as well, and it's not just a paycheck.
My problem that I'm running into as fan of college sports and lover of LSU and the guy that wants LSU to win championships,
is the more I watch college football, the more I question whether or not these guys actually give a shit about the place they're playing and how much of it,
just a paycheck and to move on to the next thing.
And by that I mean, these people don't give a shit.
These players do not.
It's a hired gun mercenary universe, and I fucking hate it.
If I can be completely honest with you, I fucking hate it.
Like my passion for it is not what it used to be.
Like, rewind 10, 12 years, right?
If you go to some of the best LSU teams,
and I'm just using LSU because that's who I root for,
insert whatever school it is you root for it.
go back 2011, 2012, 2013, even before then.
You'd see an LSU roster filled with dudes from the state of Louisiana.
And those are dudes who went to LSU and they didn't go to another fucking school.
They didn't go to three other fucking schools.
They didn't end their career at LSU after being at three different places.
They went to LSU and they played at LSU until they went pro or they graduated or whatever.
You're Leonard Fournettes and guys like that.
You're Honey Badgers, guys like that.
You're Patrick Peterson's guys like that.
And like there is something to be said about players growing up with you, if that makes sense.
Now obviously, you know, you're going to hit a point where you're always older than these guys.
But by growing up with you, by that I mean you want to watch guys and you want to see them like from the time they're freshman and you want to see them grow and you want to see what they're good at and bad at and you want to see where they evolve as a player, right?
Like that's good.
What I hate is you get these guys that a lot of us have never watched.
player even care about. Like, I've watched Sam Levitt play because I watched him at Arizona State.
They were in the college football playoff. I bet on him, whatever. But LSU brings in so many guys.
And like, I'm watching this weekend and it's like, oh, it's the Magnolia Bowl, which is some bullshit fake name they gave to the
LSU Ole Miss game a decade or so ago, whatever. I don't give a shit. I don't call LSU Ole Miss the
Magnolia Bowl. That's a made-up contrived thing. But like, you're watching this and you wonder how many of
these guys that are out there on the field in that moment actually legitimately give a shit that it's
LSU and O'Miss and how much of it is like, well, this is where I'm getting paid to play, so this is what
I'm going to do. And if this is for the pros, that's one thing. But in college, you'd like to believe
that it's bigger than that. You'd like to believe it's more important than that. You'd like to believe
that it's a bigger thing than just, hey, this is where I'm getting a paycheck. And do I sound naive at this
moment? Maybe. Do I sound ridiculous? Maybe. But when I watch a college football game, I want to believe that the
majority of the people who are playing for LSU are there because they want to be at LSU and not just because
they're getting paid $5 million a year to be the quarterback or the wide receiver at LSU. I want those dudes to have
that same level of passion that I have for LSU. And the reality is most of them don't. So then you feel like a
total dipshit, right? Like you feel like a moron caring about.
it more than these fucking people care about it.
