Starting point is 00:01:09 the men and women that are standing up here today worked tireless hours days months and years and the fraud is mind-boggling this is wild it's not thousands of dollars it's not tens of thousands of dollars it's not even millions of dollars we're talking about tens of millions of dollars fraud and theft and robbery across a multi-year investigation and we could not have done it without our interagency partners that are before us today. Dude, this stuff is out of control right now
Starting point is 00:01:40 with Chauncey and Rozier and the crime families, holy hell. The country made this day possible. This episode is brought to you by Square. It takes a team to bring this kind of justice, sweeping justice, into the halls of the United States courtrooms where our brave United States attorney has led this prosecution. It takes courageous prosecutors to stand before you and say we will not allow this kind of illicit activity to happen not only at the national sporting level, but also where it hides in La Casinosstra.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Whoa. And when these two collided together, they perpetrated a fraud. Tell me what Chauncey did. I want the details on Chauncey. But the scheme and the deceit that they utilize to steal and swindle people from money to include crypto fraud. This is an operation that showcases to you that under President Trump's administration, there is no room for any type of criminal behavior. Look at Trump getting a shout out.
Starting point is 00:03:06 He says, we ain't taking this shit. Or in the back rooms of tiny paulers where guard games are being plugged. We are proud to stand here today with the men and women of the FBI. Boy, Chauncey's fucked. And to the United States attorney, I just want to thank you. Give me the Chauncey detail so we can get on with our lives. that the media is about to hear about today in detail. As I said, it does take courageous prosecutors,
Starting point is 00:03:30 but it takes a courageous United States attorney to bring this case because we are going to take heat for it. But we don't shy away in this administration. We don't say no. What we do is we bring up. A man's like, hey, here in the Trump world, we're here to stop your corrupt shit. And yes, they will have their day in court,
Starting point is 00:03:46 and you will hear the evidence through the court system exclusively. We will not deny anyone of due process. And that's the brilliance of this system. That's the brilliance of this administration. Come on, you've got to give me some Chauncey information here. Come on, I need some Chauncey stuff. Let's go. Thank you, Director Patel.
Starting point is 00:04:06 To be clear, we're announcing today indictments in two major cases, both involving fraud. One involves sports betting and the other involves illegal gambling, very specifically rigged poker games. I rigged. Oh, shit, Chauncey. It involves six defendants who are alleged to have participated one of the most brazen sports corruption schemes. Oh, this is exciting. This is exciting. This scheme is an insider sports betting conspiracy that exploited confidential information about national basketball association athletes and teams. The second indictment involves 31.
Starting point is 00:04:51 defendants alleged to have participated in a nationwide scheme to rig illegal poker games. Oh, shit. These defendants, which include former professional athletes, used high-tech cheating technology to steal millions of dollars from victims in underground poker games that were secretly fixed. The games in the New York area were backed by the banana, Gambino, and Geno vansi's been bought off by the mob, baby. Well, the cases are separate, there are three overlapping defendants charged in both cases,
Starting point is 00:05:29 Damon Jones, Eric Ernest, and Shane Hennon. The indictments in these cases contain only allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty in a court of law. But my message to the defendants who have been rounded up today is this. Your winning streak has ended. Oh, sports puns. Violating the law is a losing proposition, and you can bet on that. Oh, betting puns because they're getting bet.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Oh, God. I would like to talk about United States versus Ernest, the NBA basketball gambling case. The defendants in this case are Eric Ernest, Marvez Farley, Shane Hennon, De Niro Laster, Damon Jones, a four. former NBA player and coach and Terry Rosier, a current NBA player. Other co-conspirators were previously charged for their roles in the scheme, including former NBA player. Oh, is it Jontay? Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:06:35 He's in on this, too. Whoa. December, 2022 and March, 2024. These defendants perpetrated a scheme to defraud by betting on inside non-public information about NBA athletes and teams. the non-public information included when specific players would be sitting out future games or when they would pull themselves out early for purported injuries they relied on corrupt individuals including Jones and Rosier
Starting point is 00:07:06 they also misused information to obtain through longstanding friendships that they had with NBA players and coaches and in at least one instance they got their information by threatening a current point player, Porter, because of his pre-existing gambling debts. Boy, it's so wild that this still happens. ...place hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraudulent bets, mostly in the form of prop bets on individual player performance. The bets were placed through online sports books and also in-person at casinos.
Starting point is 00:07:43 The defendants relied on a network of straw betters to place the maximum amount of bets to increase their potential profits. Most of these bets succeeded, and the intended losses were in the millions of dollars. Wow. The defendants then laundered their illegal winnings in various ways, peer-to-peer platforms, bank wires, and simple cash exchanges. This is wild.
Starting point is 00:08:11 The indictment details specific examples where the defendants profited from illegal gambling and illegal betting on very. It is so crazy that this stuff still happens, though. This feels like the 70s. The Charlotte Hornets, the Portland Trailblazers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Toronto Rangers. There's no Toronto Rangers? I think it's the Raptors.
Starting point is 00:08:39 And conspiracy to commit money laundering. Now, I would like to turn to the other case, United States versus ILO, the rigged, game case. Beginning as early as 2019, the defendants in this case orchestrated a scheme to use wireless cheating technology
Starting point is 00:09:02 to run rigged poker games across the United States, including in the Hamptons, Las Vegas, Miami. Like this one I don't feel as bad about. Like if people are playing illegal poker and they know they're playing illegal poker. As quote,
Starting point is 00:09:16 fish, who were often lured to participate in these rigged games by the chance to play alongside former professional athletes who were known as quote face cards but these people were still doing something that was illegal included the defendant chauncey billips who at the time of the scheme was a former NBA player and is currently the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers and also Damon Jones a former NBA player and coach. What the victims, the fish, didn't know, is that everybody else at the poker game,
Starting point is 00:09:56 from the dealer to the players, including the face cards, were in on the scam. Once the game was underway, the defendants fleeced the victims out of tens or hundreds of thousands of... Like, I don't feel bad for these people. Is that weird? The defendants used a variety of very sophisticated cheating technologies. some of which were provided by other defendants
Starting point is 00:10:19 in exchange for a share of the profits from the scheme. For example, they used off-the-shelf shuffling machines that had been secretly altered in order to read the cards in the deck, predict which player at the table had the best poker hand, and relay that information to an off-site operation. Shit, this is awesome. This is wild.
Starting point is 00:10:45 sent the information via cell phone back to a co-conspirator at the table, and that person at the table was known as the quarterback. The quarterback then signaled secretly the information he had received to others at the table, and together they used that information in order to win their games and to cheat the victims. Defendants used other cheating technologies such as poker chip tray analyzers which is a poker chip tray that secretly reads cards.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Where do you get these fucking get smart type gadgets? Or eyeglasses that could read premark cards and an X-ray table that could This shit is elaborate, man. This is crazy. What you see depicted on a screen right now
Starting point is 00:11:39 is an example of the X-ray table that reveals the cards, although they are face-down. on the table, they can be read because of the X-ray technology. Dude, that is crazy, isn't it? Specifically, members and associates of the banana, Gambino,
Starting point is 00:11:56 and what makes it bad is you're screwing around with the mob, but again, still... Like who... It's an illegal poker game. So, like, someone's engaging in illegal poker and they got scammed. Like, I don't really feel bad. Helping to organize the games and taking a cut of the
Starting point is 00:12:13 proceedings. But screwing around with the mob will obviously do it. The defendants laundered their proceeds, including cash exchanges, the use of multiple shell companies, and through cryptocurrency transfers. As part of the scheme, some of the defendants and their co-conspirators also committed acts of violence. Oh, shit. Including the gunpoint robbery of a person in order to obtain a rigged shuffling machine. and extortions that were perpetrated against victims in order to ensure that they repaid their gambling debts. Defendants who participated in the rig poker scheme are charged with wire fraud conspiracy.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Other defendants have been charged with crimes including illegal gambling, money laundering, Hobbs act robbery, and extortions. I still wonder if Chauncey was in on some sports betting stuff too. Unrelenting commitment to fighting the scourge of organized crime. in whatever form it takes. I'd like to conclude my remarks by thanking the incredible hard work of our law enforcement partners, including the FBI, Homeland Security, the NYPD, and the Waterfront Commission. I also want to thank the dedicated prosecutors who built these two cases and who are standing to my right.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Benjamin Weintraub. Let me turn this down for a second. So, like, this is what we're talking about here. Now, again, there's no ties to the sports betting with Chaunce. I keep bringing up Chauncey because he's my guy. But, damn, this whole thing's crazy, man. And I'm shocked we don't get more of this stuff. Like, obviously, you're going to get caught.
Starting point is 00:13:58 That's why you don't get more of it. But this whole thing is bonkers, man. Like, I'm on the air an hour ago. I get a text from Jilly. She's like, did you see this thing about Chauncey Billups? I'm like, whoa, he's been arrested. This is crazy. Dude, this is.
Starting point is 00:14:10 This story is phenomenal. Let's turn this up a little bit. On the rig, poker game scheme, outstanding work was performed by FBI special agents. Thomas Cribbid, Jeff Boreola. Okay, I don't really care about that. Someone get up there and ask a question. Here's what I need to know, though. And it sounds like Chauncey Billups involved in scamming people.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Again, I don't feel bad when people get scammed because ultimately you're choosing to play in a legal poker game. So if you get scammed, you get scammed, right? But when you're dealing with the mob and you're dealing with all of this underground shit and you're involved with people getting held at gunpoint, not a great look for Chauncey. Like when you're knowingly scamming people, not a great look, bro. So obviously he's done as the head coach of the Trailblazers. So Chauncey's out there. Just a wild turn of a – this whole thing is nuts, man. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:14:59 The FBI. Now I would like to turn the podium over to special agent in charge of the New York Field Office. I should say the assistant director in charge of the New York field office of the FBI, Christopher Reha. Chris? Can you at least tell me if Chauncey bet on sports or rigs some games? Now, it's okay to, like, you've got to assume that he was involved. Like, just because, like, the fact he was involved in such a big scheme, would it shock you if Chauncey were involved in something like that that was fixing the games? I guess you can't assume that.
Starting point is 00:15:31 You can't assume that he wouldn't. Should, should tell you the importance of this historic case. I'm Christopher Rea, the assistant director in charge of the FBI New York Field Office. Today, as you've heard, our office conducted a massive nationwide campaign. We know. Tell me what all Chauncey did, allegedly. I'm only caring about Chauncey and the basketball. In two separate illegal poker. You've already said this.
Starting point is 00:16:00 As you heard, the odds were rigged in their favor. But who cares they're illegal betting anyway? are 13 members and associates of the Benano, Gambino, and Genevese. Isn't it wild to think, though, that, like, organized crime still exists? This feels like such a 1960s thing. Additionally, as you heard, current and former NBA coaches and players are also implicated to include Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones, and Terry Rozier. Three of the named defendants are charged for their alleged roles in both schemes.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Oh, shit. This alleged illegal gambling operation hustled unwitting victims out of tens of millions of dollars and created a financial pipeline for La Cosa Nostra to help fund and facilitate their organized criminal activity. Was Chauncey in on the sports betting? Victims were attracted to play alongside well-known professional athletes and coaches. Like Chauncey Billups, only to be unknowledly. Okay, you've told me all this. All right, let's do this. Let's get to another episode.
Starting point is 00:17:10 We'll see where things go. This is wild. This story is amazing.
