The Josh Innes Show - I Didn't Agree With His Politics...But...

Episode Date: December 15, 2025

Can people just acknowledge that someone being stabbed to death is sad without having to preface the message? Apparently, many people cannot. It's really crazy how we identify people more with thei...r politics than their body of work. Of course, I'm referring to Rob Reiner's death... Learn more about your ad choices. As, you know, last night you're sitting around and you hear that two people were murdered at Rob Reiner's house. There's two people dead, two people found dead at Rob Reiner's house. And then the story comes out that they tell you the ages of the people who die.
Starting point is 00:01:18 And then it turns out those are the ages of Rob Reiner and his wife. And then not too long after that, you find out that Rob Reiner and his wife. wife are dead and were stabbed and then you find out that it's this kid that did it and it's like whoa i wonder like that's why i don't want to have kids i have like like i know that that sounds ridiculous but you know what josh you're 39 years old why don't you have kids your wife is like you're in her 40s why don't you guys have kids i'll tell you why we don't have kids because kids can grow up and stab you and i have no desire to be stabbed to death by my kids because i did something wrong or who knows maybe rob rider did nothing wrong and his kids just fucking nuts
Starting point is 00:01:52 That's the thing. There's a good way. The solution to not having fucking bat-shit crazy children is don't have children. There I've solved it. There's my life lesson for today, kids. The best way to avoid having bat-shit crazy children is to just not procreate. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. All right, let's play a few commercials and we will continue. All right, so, first off, when talking about this, now everybody knows that,
Starting point is 00:02:22 Rob Reiner is a super duper liberal person and anti-Trump and, you know, one of those, you know, I mean, his whole vibe was like going after Trump and constantly being on social media. He was certainly someone who was driven to the point of insanity in the Trump era like many people have been. Like the world has become, look, whether you like it or not, the world has become a far worse place in the last decade than it was. And you can blame Trump. You can just say it's not Trump's fault. It's the people going crazy over Trump. that's fine. Believe what you want to believe. Reality is this. We have become a far more fucked up, terrible society in the last 10 years. Blame who you want. I don't care. That's just
Starting point is 00:03:02 reality. Now, it's not just that. It's social media has become such a big part and everything now. There's a lot of factors in all of this that have shifted everything into being far more vile than it has been. People feel more open. Look, when this Charlie Kirk got shot in the neck, the number of people who felt compelled to let you know, hey, good riddins because they thought the guy was some sort of Nazi scumbag, right? But last night, you're reading social media about this Rob Reiner and his wife getting stabbed. And mind you, like, I've never had a huge issue with Rob Reiner. Like, I think he was fucking nuts. Like, I think that much like Keith Olberman or Rosie O'Donnell or what's their name, the Kathy Griffin, like I think a lot of these people were driven to bat.
Starting point is 00:03:48 shit crazy levels of insanity by Trump. And that sucks for them, that their life was that miserable that that happened. That's reality. That's not me trying to shit on the guy that's dead. That's not me delivering a political opinion on someone I agree with. Like, I'm not some big Trump or anything like that. The reality is, like
Starting point is 00:04:04 you know what's sad is if like someone had to write the obituary for Rob Reiner. Like there's probably more people in 2025 that know him as the guy on Twitter that hates Trump than the guy who directed misery. the guy who directed Stand By Me, and the guy who directed, it was in Meathead in All in the Family,
Starting point is 00:04:26 like, there are probably, like if you're a young person, if you're in your early 20s right now, you know when All in the Family was on? 50 fucking years ago. You know what you don't care about? All in the family. You know what you know Rob Reiner from? Being the guy that you agree with on Twitter who yells at clouds about Trump. You know, like that's sad.
Starting point is 00:04:42 That is a sad way to go about it. And there's a lot of people who are going to be remembered for that. Like, people aren't going to remember Ted Nugent as the Motor City Madman and this all-time great guitar player. His obituary, his, you know, the title is going to be, you know, right-wing, wacko, Ted Nugent. You know, I heard some people talking about James Woods the other day. It was on some movie podcast. And, like, you know, let's ignore what James Woods has become, but he was a great actor, you know. And that was kind of the viewpoint they had there.
Starting point is 00:05:15 And it's like, that's what James Woods is going to be. known for now. Chachi is going to be known for that. Like, right-wing lunatic and star of Charles in charge. Right-wing lunatic and star of Diggs Town, James Woods. Like, that's what these guys are going to be known for. And it's a shame because many of these people did great things, but they've been so ruined by politics and, like, you just can't ignore it now. And we are so divided politically that you just can't ignore it anymore. Like, it's in your face constantly, right? So, like, these great people, people that like we admire. Like some people like Rosie O'Donnell, like whoever really admired Rosie O'Donnell,
Starting point is 00:05:52 like who she was what she was. But like James Woods is a great actor. You know, James Woods was in some pretty big time roles in his life, you know. And we look back on these people and all we're going to think of them as is, you know, guys who are political zealots. That's how people are going to look back on Rob Reiner. Like the first thought when I heard that Rob Reiner died, I was like, I wonder if something politically motivated happen to you're like it that's how effed up it is that's how effed up the world is so going
Starting point is 00:06:22 back to charlie kirk when charlie kirk died there were a bunch of people that would say i don't like this fucking guy blah blah blah rob reiner dies and a lot of the commentary i'm seeing i say commentary a lot of the a lot of the posts i'm seeing from people on social media about it that are responding to it are people saying look i didn't like it's politics but this is super sad Like, why does it matter? Like, are you that fucking broken as a person that you have to make sure you point out to everybody that, hey, I want it to be known. I do not like the politics of this man. Look, I don't want to upset any of my MAGA friends here.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Guys, MAGA friends, just so you know, like, I don't agree with anything this guy said. But I'm still sad that he died. It's a sad story. But just know that his politics were bullshit. Like, are you afraid that all of your MAGA friends are going to see you and disown you if you say that it's pretty fucked up and sad? that Rob Reiner and his wife were stabbed to death by their kid? Is that where we are? And then, of course, I see left-wing people jump in on this, and they're like, look at these despicable right-wing people.
Starting point is 00:07:25 They have to turn everything into politics. And I'm like, bitch, rewind to the shit when Charlie Kirk got plugged. Rewind to that. Please enlighten me. Please find me all those posts. I guarantee you anybody that is a liberal that was actually saying that they were sad about it, had to make sure they started it with, this guy is a fucking Nazi, but this is still heinous. It's the same shit.
Starting point is 00:07:44 You are all the same people. You are all the Spider-Man's in the multiverse pointing to each other. You're all the same fucking lunatics. But imagine like a universe where you're like, all right, I'm sad. This is unfortunate that this guy died. But his politics were shit. And like, yes, it's heinous that people do that and it's just sad. But it's also a statement of where we are.
Starting point is 00:08:07 And where we are is people are more identified with who they are politically than anything else. If you look at Rob Reiner's filmography of the movies he directed, dude didn't have many misses. I mean, look, let's pull it up just to, you know, make sure we have it. Rob Reiner filmography. Let's take a look at just the movies that Rob Reiner directed. Okay. This is the list of Rob Reiner directed films after doing the whole thing with the meathead and all that. Here are the movies that Rob Reiner directed.
Starting point is 00:08:40 There aren't many misses. Out of the gate, this is spinal tap, banger. The sure thing. I don't know if I know the sure thing. Hold on. The sure thing is a Henry Winkler and John Cusack movie. I have, honest to God, I have no idea what the sure thing is. Maybe I should.
Starting point is 00:08:58 No fucking clue. But guess what? The budget was $4 million. It made $18 million. It was a hit. Stand by me. All time banger. Princess Bride, all time banger.
Starting point is 00:09:07 When Harry met Sally, all time banger. Misery, all time banger. A few good men. All time banger. So you take these movies that Rob Reiner directed. Outside of The Sure Thing, which maybe is a great movie, I don't know, I've never seen it. But out of the gate, one, two, three, four, five, six. Six of his first seven movies, certified bangers, hits.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Then he made North, which was a notorious dud. American president, banger, ghosts of Mississippi, banger. Story of Us wasn't a very big hit. I've watched it. It's fine. Things slowed down for old Rob and the. 2000s. The movies weren't as good. Like the bucket list was kind of syrupy and it was a movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Fliped. I don't even know what that is. Obviously, things
Starting point is 00:09:53 slowed down for old buddy once we got into the 2000s. Cool. But you want to look at an all-time heater? Spinal Tap, stand by me, Princess Bride, when Harry met Sally, misery, a few good men. Six of your first seven movies, certified rock star, legendary shit. that should be what you're known for. Oh, and you're on one of the most influential TV shows in history. Some would call it the most influential TV show. When people talk about it, it's why don't they make more shows like this these days? They'll never can make that one again.
Starting point is 00:10:27 But more so what people are going to know about you in 2025 is that you were just angry, political guy on social media. Whether that's true or not, whether that's who you are, that's what people saw of you on social media. That's the part that sucks. that we are too closely identifying people with their political beliefs and not their body of work and the shit they did that was great. Sad story like Rob Reiner getting his head chopped off by his kid. We should be like, God, when Harry met Sally, that orgasm scene and it's Rob Reiner's mom that says I'll have what she's having
Starting point is 00:10:58 or a few good men, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. Princess Bride, spinal tap, turn it up to 11, all that shit. But instead of focusing on those things, instead of those being the main storyline and everything, instead of it being like that's the head of everything, it's now, well, Rob Reiner, who's known for being angry about politics on social media. And that's terrible. By the way, this is ridiculous too. If you look at the movies that Rob Reiner was pumping out early, stand by me, Princess Bride, when Harry met Sally, misery, a few good men, the American president. in Ghosts of Mississippi had Oscar nominations. The only one he won anything for was misery.
Starting point is 00:11:44 And that was Kathy Bates won. But still, like, it's ridiculous. But all we're going to talk about is, well, as you know, he was a super political guy. Just a, like, it sucks. And it sucks that when people talk about this guy getting murdered by his kid, the first thought is, well, I didn't agree with his politics. is if like someone's going to condemn you for that. Are you going to get kicked out of your political group? If you go, dude, this just fucking sucks.
Starting point is 00:12:13 So if I go to social media and go, fuck, that's sad that Rob Reiner died. And I don't put any political tinge on it all. Just what a sad story, great director, unbelievable. So by not putting that I agree or disagree with this politics, does that just make me, like, does that make me the other side? So like, if I go on say, sad story, Rob Reiner died, that's sad, great director, whatever. Do you just assume that I'm some hardcore liberal? Oh, like, do you assume?
Starting point is 00:12:38 Oh, he didn't say that he, he disagrees with his politics. So, uh, clearly he's clearly on his side, you liberal cuck. We're so fucked. We're in such a fucked world. Oh, shit. But then the second somebody you agree with, you know, on politics dies. Why are, why are all these idiots saying, why can't they just say they're sad that he died? Christ, you're all full of shit.
Starting point is 00:13:04 My God. I've gotten sucked back into the social media world this way. I've got to take a break. Like, I need to disappear from the shit for a while. Because, I mean, it's designed to drive you fucking mad. And it does a really good fucking job of driving my ass mad. Like, it does a fantastic job. Anyway, more to come.
