Starting point is 00:00:00 Just reading this story about Jake Paul. Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua draws 33 million viewers on Netflix. Pretty wild, man. Starting point is 00:02:04 There's so much of you and your heritage to discover. Visit ancestry.ca and get started with an ancestry DNA kit today. I'll be totally honest with you. I have no concept of how Netflix makes money from this. Like obviously, you know, people have Netflix accounts and they pay them monthly subscription for this stuff, but it feels like something where the bubble is going to burst at some point. There's too many streaming services.
Starting point is 00:02:34 At some point, they're going to have to consolidate because nobody wants to live in a world where you have to have Netflix and Amazon Prime and Disney Plus and Hulu and Tobe and freebie and whatever all these streaming services are. I think we're not really in that world. Like people don't want to operate. I think we're still in a mindset. we want to, we just want our shit and we want to get it as easily as possible. And a lot of people don't want to fuck around with their streaming services.
Starting point is 00:03:02 And that's totally cool. I get it. What I'm confused about is how Netflix makes the cash Netflix makes. Because Netflix pays so much money for deals with actors like, you know, Adam Sandler. Like, let me see here. How much money does Netflix spend in a year on original? content. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Netflix is spending heavily on original content, planning around $18 billion in cash for 2025, an increase of roughly from 16.2. The budget covers a wide range of originals, including Stranger Things, Bridgeton, and new live content aiming to stabilize their library with quality hits rather than just quantity. Well, there is that, but then there's also, you know, all the Adam Sandler shit that you pump out there too with none of which is quality which i feel bad saying because i like adam sandler he seems like the nicest dude on the planet the most laid back chill celebrity
Starting point is 00:04:03 still wears like seven extra large baggy shorts like we're hooping in the ann one mixtape tour like i respect the guy but he just makes shit so 18 billion dollars they spend on content then what is their deficit like what is their margin how much money does net Netflix make per year. Netflix made approximately $33 billion in revenue for a full year in 2023. I guess my question would be, and look, I mean, there's your numbers. If you generate almost $34 billion in revenue and you spend $18 billion on original content. Now, I don't know if that includes like the rights fees you're paying for certain things too.
Starting point is 00:04:47 This is just on their original content. But if you're, I mean, look, that's $15 billion or $16 billion. million more than you're spending so obviously there's there's money now i need to know there what are netflix i need to know their financial figures netflix let's see netflix financials let's see the netflix financials netflix recent financials ending september 30th 2025 show 43.38 billion in revenue and 10.43 billion in net income again so i guess the way it works is because again you see them spending money like how much do they spend on the NFL like it is wild to me that how they make this kind of money because you would think like cool 33 million people watched the jake paul fight
Starting point is 00:05:32 how many of those people just had netflix anyway like how many of those people are like you know what i'm doing i'm getting Netflix just so i can watch jake paul fight that's my question right like how many like you've already got these people so like people are getting that maybe it's because you they're by now maybe it's a bigger picture thing like well we also have the nfl and now we also have this and maybe you're buying it because you know these things are coming up but like in the old pay-per-view format
Starting point is 00:05:58 like people would spend X millions of dollars on the pay-per-view or you'd spend 40 bucks on a pay-per-view, 50 bucks on a pay-per-view and it was a one-off deal so you knew where that was coming from. How do they determine how much money they generated?
Starting point is 00:06:14 That's my next question, Google. How does Netflix determine what event make money let's see Netflix determines profitable content by using detailed data analytics comparing production costs against anticipated viewers viewing hours subscriber growth looking for high engagement so like how much money did they make off of that fight how much money will Netflix make from Jake Paul fight let's see so let's see Jake Paul
Starting point is 00:06:52 you know, how much he makes, let's see, Jake, Paul Anthony, Joshua fight almost cost draft Kings, $100 million, blah, blah, blah. I need to know how much money they make. And also, can you buy it separately? Can you do a one-off for a fight on Netflix? Just do a one-off. I'm paying 50 bucks for this, but I don't want it for the year. You know, that's what I'd like to know. But to the point, I've gone down like this wormhole here, but I'm fascinated by these kind of things. The business of these things certainly fascinates me. That said, I admire the these fucking Paul brothers because they have found a way to make themselves interesting people. That goes back to the discussion we were having earlier when we were talking about
Starting point is 00:07:32 the Bobby Bones and the Charlemagne the gods, right? Like Charlemagne's got a $200 million deal with Iheart now, right? And I could sit here and go, fuck that guy. He's got all the money. Yeah, because he does something that they find interesting and they find worth the money. Jake Paul has an audience. His brother is a badass WWE wrestler. He's created this great character.
Starting point is 00:07:55 He is a legitimate wrestler. He's not just some showman out there. Like the guy puts in the work. Like these guys go from being on, you know, what was the OG TikTok? What was that fucking thing called? They were on YouTube, but what was the one that shut down at one point, a vine or whatever? Like they did all this shit.
Starting point is 00:08:11 And they made something of themselves. They got to a point where this dude could make $33 million to get his jaw broken. instead of being like fuck that guy everybody else should be figuring out how the fuck can i get to a point where if i get my jaw broken i can make 33 million dollars that's what people should be thinking stop being so fucking bitter about what about what you don't have and figure out how to get what you want that's what we need to be doing instead of sitting around whining and bitching i'm guilty of it too we're all guilty of it but like i've heard people this fucking jake paul what a clown this is guy can't even fight got his jean he's jaw broken and makes, well, it was 33 million viewers. I think Jake Paul made like $100 million off the fight. Yeah, he didn't make $33 million. That was the viewers. I think he made like $100 million.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Let's see, how much money did Jake Paul make fighting Anthony Joshua, just to be sure? You know, around $92 to $93 million. To get his jaw broken. And we can all sit here and bitch about these things and be like, well, it's like the same thing with the Kardashians. like oh my god she got fucked in the ass by Ray J mom leaks the sex tape and now they make all this money
Starting point is 00:09:26 no you can only like look at the Hawk toa girl the Hawk to a girl had a moment and she was viral for five minutes and now nobody gives a shit about her it's about what you do after you have your viral moment how smart are you the Kardashian people are super smart I'm watching this Taylor Swift documentary
Starting point is 00:09:45 for the most part I think her current music's pretty shitty I like some of her old stuff I've seen her in concert. I think she's very basic, flat-assed, not very attractive. Her music is, I've seen people compare it to boiled chicken. Like, it's fine. But instead of sitting here being like, fuck that, bitch. How do they figure it out?
Starting point is 00:10:04 Like, how did she do that? I refuse to acknowledge the Kelsey's as successful people because they played football and they've parlayed football mixed with Taylor Swift and they've ridden her coat tails. So I refuse to acknowledge them as people that have found a way. But Taylor Swift came from nothing. Taylor Swift, you know, just a little girl wants to play the guitar. 20 years ago, I saw her open for Ronnie Millsap, who opened for George Strait at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette.
Starting point is 00:10:27 This would have been in 2006 that I saw this show. Now she's filling up football stadiums three, four, five nights in a row, filling up giant football and soccer stadiums across the country. I don't hate on her for that. I find her a bit of, like I find her annoying. I find her husband or whatever. Her fiance is super fucking annoying and terrible. I think his whole family is terrible.
Starting point is 00:10:52 But she's found a way to take what is very basic shit and make a life out of it and become a billionaire. And look, do I think some of the shit she does is fucking lame as hell, like taking advantage of these dipshit fan girls of hers that'll buy the same album 20 different times? Yes, it's bullshit. She found a way to make money.
Starting point is 00:11:13 And instead of sitting here looking at guys like Jake Paul and being like, this fucking guy, Why would people waste their money on this shit? He's, dude made $100 million. What did you do? You know? It's like, what is it, Glenn Gary, Glenn Ross, when you've got Homeboy at the beginning of it.
Starting point is 00:11:29 These are the Glenn Gary leads. You know, that whole scene? You know, fuck you, that's my name. You know, I drove here in a, you know, I drove here in a whatever car today. You know what, this watch, this watch costs more than your car. You know, you look at those kind of people
Starting point is 00:11:45 and you go, fuck those kind of people. Well, they figured it out. and no more can we just sit around here and whine about what we don't have and point fingers of those who do have shit and go how did they do it they found a way last time i checked the two paul brothers i don't think came from great wealth they weren't nepo babies they weren't silver spoon babies they weren't lucky sperm club people they made something honestly you want to know real talk real fucking talk those are the kind of people you should look at and go holy fucking shit that's the American dream basically took having very little skill and found a way to turn that
Starting point is 00:12:25 into becoming super duper multi-millionaires fucking hot chicks faces are everywhere all started with them playing around on fucking YouTube Kardashians and these are the people that we ridicule when these are the people we should be looking at and going holy shit how did they do it I'm sitting here I drove a Honda to work today. I drove a Porsche. How do they drive on a Porsche and you're driving a fiat or a civic? That's the difference between the people who get it and the people who don't. And not everybody wants to make $100 million.
Starting point is 00:13:00 There are a lot of people who do what they do. I'm not trying to rip fiats or anything like that. It was just the point kind of making reference to like Glenn Gary Glenn Ross. But like not everybody wants to be that. Not everybody wants to make $100 million to get their jaw broken. But instead of sitting around, or sitting around shitting on these dudes, be like, holy shit, how did you do it? Like, it's remarkable.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Like, when you really sit back and think about what these guys have done, it is a truly remarkable achievement. Jake Paul created a world where somebody wants to pay $100 million, or people want to pay however much money they want to pay to watch him get his jaw broken by this guy. That is a skill. I mean, how much money did he make from that Mike Tyson fight? Which was a joke?
Starting point is 00:13:47 50 million, 60, 70, 100? I mean, like, you know, these are the people we need to admire because they figured it out. They get it, man. And not everybody does. So my lesson for this that I would tell you, it kind of goes back to me. I don't point fingers at people and have jealousy and rage over the money people make it, even in my own field. I have admiration for them. And I say, how can I get there?
Starting point is 00:14:13 What do I have to do? What do I have to do to get my mind back into the game? What do I have to do to get to that place again where I think I could climb the ladder? Am I ever going to be a guy that gets a $200 million deal? Fuck no. Can I be a guy that becomes the number one rock radio guy and I heart and have 20 stations doing a morning show?
Starting point is 00:14:36 Yeah, I could. I ever going to make $5 million a year? No. could I make half a million a year sure you know what can I be I have no jealous you will not believe I don't I'm not jealous of people I might have admiration and occasional envy
Starting point is 00:14:54 but there's no jealousy because I know why I am where I am I know I'm going back to this again but Jake Paul I think the Jake Paul thing is a great thing because again 33 million people watch this 10 years ago who was Jake Paul who was Logan Paul They're pulling putt as teenagers on YouTube. It's a remarkable accomplishment.
Starting point is 00:15:17 And I ask everyone who listens to this to not sit back and look at people and be like, fuck them or whatever. No, how do I get to where I want to be, man? I got to figure it out again because I used to be there and somehow my mind just doesn't get there anymore sometimes and I needed to get there. Anyway, more to come.
