Starting point is 00:07:44 Learn more at landrover.ca. I think the Eagles and Jalen Carter know they got off real light on that. So the punishment was, what, like 50 grand, 57,000, I think was the number he got fined. And then he got punished time served because, well, he's already missed a game anyway. To me, that's not, like, you want the best players on the field, right? So, like, I'm not unhappy that the best players are getting on the field, good, get the best players on the field. People are buying money and buying tickets and buying merch because they, want to see the best players and Jalen Carter is one of the best players in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:08:21 So, yes, you want those guys on the field. But the idea that time served is the punishment for a guy who spits on another dude is fucked. And oh, by the way, don't think that it just would have been time served if it were some sort of role reversal and some sort of honky motherfucker was spitting on Jalen Carter. It would be CNN. It would be Fox News.
Starting point is 00:08:43 it would be Tucker Carlson, it would be a whole fucking thing, okay? But whatever, it's fine. Black dude spits on another black dude. Spitting's fucking gross, bro. It is disgusting. Like, I feel like dudes get punished more for doing throat slash symbols or like fake fucking guns. People are getting, like, the punishments are harsher for dudes who do a fake gun to get a first down. Like, that's, like, I feel like that gets punished harder and more severely than a dude spitting on.
Starting point is 00:09:13 someone, which is just the lowest of the fucking low. It's gross. And that's not to defend DAC or anything like that or like, I don't feel bad. I mean, whatever, DAC is DAC. But like, time served? Don't give me any bullshit about how you're concerned about sportsmanship. You know, like, you're concerned about sportsmanship when some guys doing a fucking dance or spinning a football after a first down or doing fake guns to mark a first down or whatever. That's serious. But when a dude spits on someone, you're like, time served. I mean, wait, it's a one game suspension. He already served it.
Starting point is 00:09:45 He already served it because he created the punishment. He did it. Like, it's like you're rewarding him. Like, well, I mean, he's already had to suffer enough. He's missed a game. Yeah, because he chose to spit on a dude before the first play of a football game. The punitive, look, if we're being fair about what the punishment should be, and again, you want the best players on the field.
Starting point is 00:10:07 So, like, Jalen Carter playing is not bad for the league. it's good for the league. Star players playing, good players playing is good for football. So I'm not bitching about the idea of the dude playing. But don't get me bullshit about how you care about sportsmanship and don't get me bullshit about all this other stuff. And you're like, ah, time served will do. We're going to stick with time served for Jalen Carter. He created it. That's like saying, well, you know, we're not going to arrest this guy for DUI because, I mean,
Starting point is 00:10:34 he spent the night in jail. That's good enough for us. What are you doing? Let's see. This is from pro football talk. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the outcome was the result of a discussion between the NFL and the NFLPA and Carter's agent, Drew Rosenhouse. Carter will not be appealing the punishment, which means there will be no argument that the de facto suspension breaks from past precedent while setting a new precedent. The question becomes whether in the future the league will deem partial participation
Starting point is 00:11:02 in a game before a spitting ejection as sufficient to justify a non-suspension suspension. Will the dividing line be the end of the first quarter? Look, I don't like Mike Floreo. I think he's a Pud. I don't know how he became as popular as he became. Basically, his website was the drudge report for football, and it became this big deal, and now he's got a podcast, and he's on NBC, and all this shit. I have no idea why Florio or how he became, what he became, good for him for doing it,
Starting point is 00:11:31 but I just don't find him interesting or likable. He's actually loathable. But in this instance, I agree. What is the line of demarcation? Like in college football, the rule is preposterous, but if you get a targeting call and you're in the first half of a game, you're ejected and you're going to miss the first half of the next game. And I think it's still the same if you get ejected in the second half of a game as well. So if you get knocked out of the second half of a game, you're going to miss the first half. I think basically the rule is if you get a targeting call and you are ejected at any point in a college football game, you have to miss the first half.
Starting point is 00:12:03 And that's for doing something that most of the time is a football play. that just goes awry, right? Like a lot of the time, when you see a targeting, a lot of these aren't deliberate, malicious shots to the head. A lot of them are aggressive tackle or offensive player, ball carrier, lowers his helmet at the wrong time. Guy comes in, goes helmet to helmet, and the defensive player gets punished
Starting point is 00:12:24 because we never punish the offensive player for initiating helmet to helmet, which we should. How many times do you see an offensive player lower his helmet and it initiates contact with an engaged defender's helmet and the defender gets punished or neither side gets punished but the quarterback should. Anyway, I digress. But at least we know what the rule is. We know that if you get tossed, the rule sucks, targeting sucks, the whole thing sucks.
Starting point is 00:12:51 A guy should not be tossed from a football game for targeting. 15-yard penalty. And if he does get tossed from the game, which I think is stupid, he certainly shouldn't miss the next half of football. It is dumb. Anywho, in this case, you still know. what the precedent is. Now, targeting ejections in college football happened far more frequently than spitting ejections in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:13:13 But you at least know what it is. You know the precedent. And the case of Jalen Carter, it's like, well, the poor guy's already missed one game. He missed one game because he's the dipshit. He was going to miss that game no matter what. So it's weird to me that you're counting getting tossed from a game as his suspension. but whatever Floreo continues
Starting point is 00:13:37 Then there's the possibility that a spit will be missed by the officials during a given game if that happens a suspension without pay for the next game becomes the logical conclusion thus while a fine in the amount of one game check has always been the right solution for Carter the semantics have washed away years of precedent
Starting point is 00:13:54 that spitting results in a fine and only a fine look I agree with that I'm not here rooting for the guy to not play I think you need good players. You need star players on the field. That is good for the league. There's not a negative that comes from having star players on the field.
Starting point is 00:14:11 But national TV, biggest game in the world, only game in the world, start of the season, before the first offensive play of the season, guy spits on another dude. And you're like, that time served. Punishment is time served in a game check. How much is his game check? Was it 57,000? That's a decent game. Hey, look, not bad for a day's work, right?
Starting point is 00:14:37 I think I read 57,000. Jalen Carter Fine. Let's see what his actual fine was. I guess I should. 57,000. So the number is 57,000. So is that just a game check for him? A guy makes 57,000 every time he played?
Starting point is 00:14:51 That doesn't sound right. I feel like it's got to be more than that. Because if you play 17 games and you're making 57,000 per, you mean to tell me the guy's making like, What would that be like 700,000? I mean, he's got to be making, I mean, that's dumb. There's no way that's just a game check.
Starting point is 00:15:09 I don't know. I just was reading Florio saying a game check. I ain't no way that dude only makes $57,000 for a game. That's baby shit compared to some of the other ones. But yeah, like, I don't know. The league annoys me, but whatever. You got guys that, you know, you want to crack down on things and you got a guy spitting on another dude.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Like, spitting's great. gross, don't get me wrong. It's nasty. And it's not, I mean, look, look, he's not out there chopping a guy's leg off or taking a machete to him or something like that. He's not a serial killer. He's not a loathsome human. But, you know, he's not the guy in North Carolina stabbing the girl on the train.
Starting point is 00:15:47 But it's still fucking nasty. And in the context of or in the world of, in the universe of NFL and football and sports, spitting on someone's about as low as you're going to go, right? And it's just a time served? What, like, what are you, what are you achieving with that? Anywho, more to come.
