I love whenever we start getting to that point in SEC football coaching searches where
there's planes on the tarmac and you're got people following flight logs of coaches flying

and just start embracing that the drama is all that really matters, then we're really

So, yeah, we are deep in this SEC football coaching search world.
And the stories of Lane Kiffin are that he's Florida's number one target.
He's LSU's number one target.
And apparently today, it's not even apparently it's reality.
Lane Kiffin's family has been flown to Baton Rouge.
So a jet flew from Baton Rouge to Oxford, Mississippi, picked up Kiffin's family.
And now they are in Baton Rouge touring Baton Rouge.
Apparently he's supposed to be coming to town.
Again, that's the latest thing I've heard.
I don't know how true that is or not.
But the kiffins are in town and they're touring Baton Rouge.
Like, I don't know.
Like the idea of touring Baton Rouge fascinates me
because Baton Rouge is not a touring town.
As we discussed, Oxford, Mississippi is probably an exponentially better,
more charming place to live than Baton Rouge.
I love Baton Rouge.
Those are my people.
Traffic's terrible.
Crime is terrible.
Food's pretty good.
people are very nice
but it's not like Baton Rouge
is some sort of amazing place
I love it, it's my people, it's my town
but Baton Rouge is not some amazing
charming place. If you are looking for charm
Baton Rouge ain't it. Like if you go to the campus
of LSU like you're driving through
hood, hood, hood, campus back to hood hood hood hood
like when you see the way LSU just sort of pops up
out of this really shitty part of town
it is pretty fascinating. But then like right on the
other side of campus there's like mansions
along the lakes and everything.
So again, like, he ain't going to Baton Rouge
because Baton Rouge is a charming town.
If Lane were to go to LSU,
and I don't think it's for the money either.
Now, money plays a factor
because nobody wants to turn down big cash
and he's going to obviously make a shitload of money
wherever he goes.
I mean, I think the story was that
Ole Miss has already made him an offer
to be the highest paid coach in America.
Think about how wild that is.
Big picture, Lane Kiffin has won nothing.
Big picture, Lane has never won a national
title. He's never played for a national title. He's been kind of a job hopper for most of his life,
never won anything. Guys about to become the highest paid coach in college, whether it be at
Ole Miss, whether it be at LSU, whether it be at Florida. And the people at Ole Miss are super
pissed right now. They're feeling jilted because they want a straight answer from this guy. They want
to know like, hey, are you going to coach our team? Are you going to be here? He was asked about that
in a press conference after the game on Saturday, I think. And he was like, I don't know. I mean, like,
I love it here. I don't know. Like, it feels.
like a guy that's probably going to leave.
And he's also a guy, Ross, you good?
He's also a guy that when you look at him, he's a guy that seems to really be embracing
the wildness of this whole thing, kind of embracing the trolling aspect of it, the drama
of it all.
That's what Lane does.
I know this.
And it feels pretty confident that this is going to happen.
If Lane were to take the LSU job or the Florida job and do that here in the next
couple days, he's not going to coach Ole Miss in the playoff, which is wild.
Think about how wild that is that Kiffin, who's taken this team to where they're almost guaranteed to get into the college football playoff, unless they totally fuck up, they're getting in.
This guy took them there and is probably not going to coach them in the playoff, which is bonkers when you really think about it.
But it makes sense, like you don't want some guy that's leaving you to be your coach, so I get it.
But those people are pissed.
They want an answer.
All these big money boosters are throwing money on the table.
They're like, what are you going to do?
Are you going to stay?
he going to go. He got LSU who wants to find a coach. It appears LSU is willing to put together
deals that could get him $13, $14 million a year. His family is touring Baton Rouge right now.
Like this is fun. This is just elite level fun. Now, where would I prefer to be if I were
Lane Kiffin? Again, I'm a Baton Rouge guy. I'm from Baton Rouge. I love Louisiana, right? Louisiana is a
great place. They're wonderful people. I love the place. But Oxford, Mississippi is one of the most
charming college town you ever going to be in, right? So to me, I'd stay at Ole Miss. I'd be a legend
there. I'd probably never get fired there. It would take a lot to get him fired there. It's your baby.
You built it from the, not the ground up, because there have been successful coaches there,
but you're going to be the most successful coach, make the most money you can. Now, the one knock
is people will tell you that you can't win a championship at Ole Miss. But I'd ask why. Like,
are they going to win this year? Maybe. Like, are they going to win this year? Maybe. Like, are they
going to be heavy underdogs to anybody they'd face in the playoffs probably not heavy underdogs like would
they beat georgia no they've already lost to georgia so i don't think they'd beat georgia but they beat
ohio state probably not you know when you look at some of the better teams that are going to be there are
they going to beat them probably not but i don't believe that you can't win a championship at olmiss like
that's kind of been the big thing about ls u.su as well you can go to lsu and you can compete for championships
and yes the talent pool in the state of louisiana is much better and yes you're going to get some hosses
and totally, I get all that and I respect that.
I don't believe in this era of college football.
You can just throw a label on any school and say they can't win.
If you're in a power conference and you have the right resources,
I think you can win and be competitive.
Remember this, Clemson was a nothing program for most of the existence there.
It was an underachieving bad program that always fell short,
that never really lived up to the kind of potential, like the resource they had and everything.
Dabo gets the gig and they become a power.
now granted that's in a different era of you know then we see now but clemson did it like why couldn't
you do it at old miss like i see people doing this stuff about how old miss had their biggest crowd
ever and it was 68 000 this weekend and at lSU you'll play in front of 1005 000 who fucking
cares Oregon doesn't play in front of 105 000 people every week and Oregon's one of the
most powerful programs in the country who gives a fuck like who gives a fuck about dick swinging
over how big the attendance in your stadium is congratulations you can put a bunch of
people in there. A lot of these stadiums are big for nothing anyway. I guarantee if you get the right
crowd there, 68,000 can be really fucking loud at Ole Miss. I hope Lane comes to Bat Rouge because
he's got a vibe about him, right? I like the vibe. I like that he's got a brand about him. I like
that you know what you're getting when you get Lane Kiffin. But what you're also getting is probably
this drama again in a couple years. Like that's the weird thing about hiring someone that's willing to
do what he's about to do to Ole Miss. And again, you're looking for upward mobility. And again, you're looking for
upward mobility and all that. I get it. But there's something to be said about, like,
if he's done it to this person, will this person do it to you? And that would always be in the
back of my mind. Like, is LSU really Lane Kiffin's dream job? USC was his dream job and he got fired
there. But like, is that really the end all be all? Is that what Lane Kiffin wants to be? Is that his
dream position in life to be the coach at LSU? I don't know. But you're obviously not going to say,
know if he wants to coach there and they're putting on the full court press and look I think LSU is a
great job and I think that Lane is a great coach and I think Lane is fun I think he's been
personally endorsed by Nick Saban I think Nick Saban according to what my buddy was telling me is it
Nick Saban has come out and said this is the guy LSU should hire he's endorsed Lane for that job
like it is a it is a great gig and Lane is fun and like he would give you the personality
that you didn't have with Brian Kelly and it would get you'd be that kind of
center and imagine if you thought people hated lane when he left tennessee 15 years ago
imagine what would happen if kiffin leaves olmiss to go to ls u.su who are essentially rivals
but imagine whenever he goes back in there this could be the all-time greatest heel move ever
like we saw it with nick sabin nick sabin leaves ls u but he goes to the pros so there was that buffer area
and it still sucked when he went back to Alabama,
but he didn't leave LSU for Alabama.
He left LSU from Miami and then Miami didn't work out.
He goes back and coaches Alabama.
You don't get opportunities like this very often.
Like this would be like if Nick Saban left Alabama and then went to Auburn.
Like they're not like total rivals.
LSU is not,
the LSU and Ole Miss is not an Alabama Auburn Iron Bowl type thing,
although there is a dumb name on the game they play now,
the Magnolia Bowl and they are rivals but they're more rivals from a bygone era like 60s and 70s
but as someone who's you know 90s and 2000s is my era old miss really wasn't one that I ever viewed
that way but a lot of old heads do but lane leaving in the middle of a a playoff run to go coach at
a school that's considered one of your rivals is sexy as hell the drama around that like
I'm trying to think of another example of that like when lane came back to coach against
Tennessee and they threw like golf balls and shit at him like somehow lane is the guy that gets
this like he got shit thrown at him when he was coaching old miss back in Tennessee again and if
he does it to old miss it's going to be the same thing and the drama is so fucking sexy and
beautiful and I love it and it's great it'd be compelling like there really aren't a ton of
examples of anything like this like I'm trying to think of an example of and I'm sure they
exist and I'm just missing them but a coach that leaves someplace for another
other place, like even the times that you would lose like Urban Meyer, like Urban Meyer retired or
left Florida for health reasons, then goes to Ohio State. Like that sucks, but it is what it is.
You're talking about a guy in the middle of a season. They will not let him finish that
playoff season. He will leave and become the coach at a school that is your rival and a school
that you fucking hate because that school is far superior to you in football. Holy shit, my
nipples are hard thinking about this. Holy shit, this is fun. The drama of sports is better than
the games themselves. Look at the NFL. There are a lot of shitty NFL games, but the drama
that surrounds them is good. There's a lot of shitty college football, but there's a lot of drama
that surrounds it. And it's fucking fun, man. So that's the latest. So Lane, I don't know what's
going to happen with Lane. I hope Lane comes to LSU. I can't wait to see how the Ole Miss
dipshits respond to it. Fuck it's spectacular. Like to me, there's no way he stays at Ole
Miss, right? Like you don't go up to the podium and give kind of a half answer when they ask you
if you plan on being the coach at Ole Miss next year,
there's no way in hell that you come back and like,
oh, just kidding, I'm going to be the coach
after you gave a non-answer to that.
There's no way.
And I also feel like you don't send your family to a city
to scout the city for a job
unless it's pretty clear that you're already taking that job.
Like, it'd be one thing if you were coming to town for an interview,
it's another thing to send your family to town for the interview
to send them there and kind of tour the place.
Like that feels like you're on your way out
and this is the place you're going.
Maybe I'm wrong.
But that's a weird thing to do if that's not a job
that you're truly interested in
and that you're probably going to take.
Because you know what you're doing to your current employer.
Like you don't do what you're doing to your current employer
and go back to the current employer.
They'll probably just fire your ass.
Like the second they hear that you're probably taking that job,
they're going to jump the gun and just fucking can you at that point.
Although they probably won't only because I would imagine
there's money involved in that that they don't want to pay.
But still,
It's fucking phenomenal.
Like just the drama of this is spectacular.
All right, more to come.
