The Josh Innes Show - "Mr. McMahon" Full Review and More Rodgers BS

Episode Date: October 10, 2024

We finished "Mr. McMahon". I will say that it actually got more interesting in the final two episodes. I go on a random diatribe about the podcasts and radio shows I listen to. Aaron Rodgers spewed ...some real BS on the McAfee show. Does Jilly think the Texans will be okay without Nico? Why do baseball fans continue to blame managers for losses? Starting point is 00:00:00 Howdy, Jmokes! How are you? It's Josh and Jelly. Glad you guys are with us today. Wrapped up the Vince McMahon, Mr. McMahon doc. Admittedly, it got better the last two episodes. It was more interesting the last two episodes, but it was fine. The first four were a complete waste of time. You could have told that story in far fewer pieces. I don't think you needed the minutia of the wrestling industry that we've all seen. Anybody who's a wrestling fan has seen in every documentary ever. And I don't believe it was information that was really relevant to the story. Most of it wasn't. There certainly wasn't four hours of information, four episodes slash hours of information that a casual fan would have needed to understand this story. Regurgitating the screw job and all this other shit.
Starting point is 00:00:56 It really didn't matter, but things certainly did get better over the last two episodes. Jilly, what did you think? Yeah, the last two episodes were way better, but I just think they're doing that because it's moving to Netflix, and there's a lot of people who've probably not watched wrestling in their mind and don't know all the stories, so they're trying to get them sucked in
Starting point is 00:01:14 so they'll come watch Raw. I get that, but I wonder if... None of those wrestling docs are really on Netflix. No, they're on the WWE Network, which is on Peacock, but here's the thing though I don't believe you're gonna start watching wrestling if you've never watched it before because of some uh videos and highlights of cool shit that wrestling used to do back in the 90s back in
Starting point is 00:01:37 the attitude era when it was for grown-ups before it became all kiddified and shit like I don't think that watching Stone Cold versus The Rock is going to make you go, oh, I never really thought about this. Now I'm going to go watch it on Netflix. Like, I don't think that's the case. I understand why the documentary's there because they're all piling on in this world. Now, that's why Heels is on Netflix
Starting point is 00:01:57 because they're in the wrestling business now. And by the way, speaking of Heels, it is my obligatory Heels commentary for the day. I keep seeing people on social media begging Netflix for another season. I'm not going to tell you how the season ended, the second season, even though it's an old show, technically. I'm not going to tell you how it ended, but I can't have the two seasons of heels end the way that ended and not get another season. It's an amazing show, and Netflix needs to bring it back. And I say this as someone who doesn't not get another season. It's an amazing show and Netflix needs to bring it back. And I say this as someone who doesn't really get into things. I don't get into shows.
Starting point is 00:02:29 I really enjoyed Heels. I was talking to Jim Mudd about it. Jim loved it. He sent me a message the other day when he's not doing his big time work with the Michael Berry show of the Premier Radio Networks every now and then he makes time to text me back and um and he loved it so uh please netflix who is not listening at all netflix bring back another season or two or 14 of of heels it's a great show um one of the things first of all um because i the only wrestling podcast i listen to is the Eric Bischoff podcast. And if I'm being honest, I only do that because it's background noise when I'm driving. And I don't like to listen to the radio, especially I try to avoid listening to the radio locally just because I'm not on it anymore.
Starting point is 00:03:18 And every now and then if I hear certain things, I'll get like just not mad, just kind of like, I guess that sounds mad, but I'll just, so I try to avoid it. And I've got different things at different times of day that I listen to, to prevent me from flipping on local radio and being pissed that I'm not on it. So podcasts are one of those, like basically let me lay out a Josh Ennis podcast day. Cause during the day, a lot of times I'll just go for long walks like today I got like 15,000 steps in and when I walk I listen to podcasts or live radio shows so whenever it's posted I will listen to AJ's morning show in San Antonio which I think is actually one thing I think it's a good show but one thing that i've always liked about aj
Starting point is 00:04:05 is that i've never felt that aj and that's aj hoffman who i used to work with at 97.5 if you want to say worked with i mean i was just kind of there but um aj never does a radio show in the way that a lot of people have to do them now, which is radio show kind of for adults with a children's mentality. Like, oh, they're being bossed around by a team that has the rights to the broadcast. So they have to kind of cover things with kid gloves so they don't offend the sensibilities of the team
Starting point is 00:04:38 and of the weird homers that listen to the sports radio. AJ doesn't do that kind of shit. It's just him and this dude that he's working with. Guy's name is Rob. And they just laugh and they tell like AJ was telling a story today about, well, I didn't know this by the way, but remember during the Cowboys game when Jalen,
Starting point is 00:04:57 what's his name? Number one, the receiver, the other, like the other dude had a nice game that day. I did. Yeah. So that dude, apparently when I saw at one point in the end zone, bet on him. I did, yeah. So that dude apparently,
Starting point is 00:05:06 when I saw at one point in the end zone, it looked like he was holding his nuts, and I'm like, that guy got hit in the nuts or something. Turns out that his nuts didn't explode, but they either got twisted or something, and he had a major nuttle issue, okay? So AJ was telling a story about this today about how multiple times in his life he's gotten hit hard in the nuts and thought he was going to die. And one of them was when he was coaching little league or whatever age group this was. And he's sitting on a bucket while he's coaching third base or whatever. And a kid lines a ball right at his balls. And it was one of those situations where he got hit so hard in
Starting point is 00:05:45 the balls that he almost threw up but the story kept getting better because he was talking about how shitty this little league team he was managing was and the guy on the show was like they couldn't have been that bad they couldn't have been terrible players he goes one of the kids in the dugout i had to kick off the team because he was watching anime porn on his phone in the dugout. So I text him, like, was there really a kid watching anime porn on the phone? He goes, yeah, a little bastard was watching Pokemon, just Pokemons fucking on his phone. I think a lot of the kids watch the anime porn. And the hentai porn, like the weird porn.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Easily accessible. Sure, but he was like, it was in the dugout during the game. But like, AJ, if you're looking for a show to listen to if you i'm sure a lot of you that listen to this followed aj or radio in houston he's on in san antonio now on the show he does a morning show there and i find it to be a very good show so when i'm doing some of my early morning or yeah i say early morning when i'm doing my you know 10 o'clock 10 30 11 oclock, just ate the $5 meal deal lunch at McDonald's. And now I'm looking to do a little walk-in. If it's uploaded in time, I will listen to AJ's show from that day. Then I got a guy I listened to in Nashville who we have met one time ever. His name is Jared
Starting point is 00:06:59 Stillman. And we used to listen to his show ironically in Nashville to make fun of it if we're being honest like we would listen to it and we think that he sounds like this cartoon character from one of my favorite shows on Netflix that only lasted one season it's called Hoops about a high school basketball coach that's a very vulgar yeah we talked about this on the podcast because he was supposed to come on the podcast and you were too scared to have him on you were like starstruck or something yeah and then we also talked about hoops and most of our podcast listeners hated that show oh they did they let all the tv show hoops yes all the pod listeners hated it really yeah they're like this is the worst show ever i question the sons of
Starting point is 00:07:39 bitches that listen to this podcast then but hoops was a great show i laughed my balls off at it and jared reminds me of hoops and we were drunk and finally met him in nashville a couple months that listen to this podcast then. But Hoops was a great show. I laughed my balls off at it. And Jared reminds me of Hoops when we were drunk and finally met him in Nashville a couple months ago. I was like, you ever see a show called Hoops? You sound just like him.
Starting point is 00:07:53 And not shockingly, Hoops had not seen Hoops. So, but we call him Hoops. So I listen to that because I find most sports radio to be boring, but I enjoy Jared because he's so self-important
Starting point is 00:08:04 that it's funny. Most sports radio is either real bloviators or just really softball, boring shit. This dude just didn't give a fuck. Like he loves himself some him and I enjoy that. So I listened to him. And I also listened to the 83 weeks podcast with Eric Bischoff, even though I can basically tell you all of his stories because he's kind of limited in his story. So I'll be listening. I'm like, well, here comes the story blank. And there it is. But that's the one wrestling podcast I listened to. And all that to tell you this, that Dave Meltzer, who was featured prominently in the Mr. McMahon doc, who's one
Starting point is 00:08:38 of the original, as they call them, dirt sheet gossip writers about wrestling. Bischoff fucking hates his guts and just talk shit about him all the time. And for that, I am on wrestling Bischoff fucking hates his guts and just talks shit about him all the time and for that I am on Eric Bischoff's side to me Dave Meltzer is kind of like what the dudes at Crossing Broad were like to me they have just enough info where they sound credible and what they say but a lot of the shit they said about me was false and inaccurate. And it came from the only people who you can get information from, which are bitter disgruntled people. And that's what always bothered me in Philly is no one took the time when they'd read these stories at crossing broad. They were just so anxious to hate me that people would read those and they would never think,
Starting point is 00:09:20 all right, let's think who is giving this information to Crossing Broad? It's obviously somebody that already doesn't like Josh Ennis and probably someone whose job was impacted or whatever. So they're clearly bitter and they're trying to make him look bad, but nobody ever takes the time to do that. People who are willing to talk, especially when it's talking shit about someone else, usually have an agenda in the shit they're talking about in a story like that, like Dave Meltzer would have when he was writing about the WCW and Bischoff was there. And every time I hear him tell stories about that, it reminds me of Crossing Broad. And one of the things he said about dirt sheet writers was that they have just enough information where they've got enough right information,
Starting point is 00:10:02 where they sound credible. They know just enough of what to say about certain things where it sounds like they're credible but at the end of the day they don't really know anything and that's how i felt when crossing broad would write rating stories and i'd be like you don't know what the fuck any of this means but you're writing about how i'm failing and then you would write shit that was apparently from inside the office not thinking that any kind of dirt that people are going to say about you is from people who don't like you anyway so their shit is slanted but you know it just reminded me of that anyway all that to tell you this Mr. McMahon got better in the last two episodes the first four were boring and repetitive now if you didn't watch
Starting point is 00:10:40 wrestling in the past it I guess it's a nice catch up, but it really didn't supply or provide any sort of information that I felt was necessary for you to see the last two episodes. You could have gotten all that down basically to one episode and then watch the last two. You didn't need four to fill that. So there you go. Mr. McMahon was solid. all right other stuff so in the pod yesterday i talked about how i think aaron rogers is full of shit that was before aaron rogers was on the mcafee show and you were texting me when you were reading the quotes of it and you were like this guy is denying this as if he's involved in like a sexual assault
Starting point is 00:11:25 case or something it was ridiculous like his inflection it was very very serious and i read the comments and i watched the video and i don't know aaron rogers and i'm not somebody who hates him because of his politics and i think there are a lot of people who are biased about rogers because of the things he believed first all, he's anti-media. So if you're in the media, you're automatically going to dislike the guy. And he was anti-vax and masks. And he certainly is not a left-wing person like most media people are. So a lot of these people just dislike Aaron Rogers because of the political side of things. That's not how I look at Aaron Rogers. I find him to be annoying. I find him to be pompous. I find him to be self-important,
Starting point is 00:12:08 but all kind of in the all shucks kind of guys that he hides under. I find him to be very loathsome. He's also shitty at football. But when I listen to him talk, particularly in this cone of protection that he's in with the McAfee show, big McAfee guy, and I enjoy what they do. McAfee does not interview anyone for the sake of getting any real information out of them. It's just plain grab ass. So he's not going to sit there with Aaron Rodgers and ask follow-up questions, right? He's not going to sit there and go, no honest with me because that's his boy he's a paid guest which I know is a big deal to a lot of people but there are paid guests on every radio show but in that situation he's not going to press him for anything it's not like he's out there doing meet the press he's going to ask him one time because
Starting point is 00:12:58 to help his own credibility he has to ask him at least once so he can fall back and say hey I asked the question and then he'll let Aaron Rogers say bullshit he wants, and he's not going to push back or he's not going to follow up. But when he's like, look, people think I have a lot more power than I actually have. Part of the reason why I went to play for the Jets is my respect for Robert Sala. I don't believe anything that comes out of this dude's mouth because I think he's completely full of shit, particularly on this stuff. But it's so funny that he'd have to like vehemently deny this. Like it's the biggest deal in the world. If you didn't like the coach and you
Starting point is 00:13:38 tried to get him fired, like doesn't make you the biggest piece of shit on the planet. People do it all the time. There've been dudes that have been players forever that have tried to get coaches fired so it's not like it'd be anything new to you but like he's a narcissist and the world all kind of revolves around him and i just i never disliked aaron rogers before and it's not because of the political shit anytime i'm critical of him on twitter i'll get a slew of people with american flags in their bio. And then you click on their profile. And it's nothing but retweets of like Clay and Buck. And you're like, I can see why you're pissed. Because you think I'm shitting on someone who, you know, is one of your heroes, I guess.
Starting point is 00:14:16 I couldn't give two shits who he votes for. Just like I couldn't give two shits about who anybody votes for. If I find you to be annoying, I find you to be annoying. I find Aaron Rodgers to be pomp, I find you to be annoying. I find Aaron Rodgers to be pompous and self-important and annoying, and you can be all of those things. But you should also consider being good at football in the process. And currently, you are not good at football, friend. So it's a perfect storm of mediocrity. Therefore, I'm a perfect storm of annoyed by you. And I don't believe a word that comes out of your mouth.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Speaking of him, whatever happened to him and Shailene Woodley? They broke up a long time ago. I know, but what was the reason? Like, did she think he was too fucking nuts, or did he think she was? Because, like, he went off to, like, some darkness retreat and shit. I forgot what all happened, but how long have they not been together? Like, years. Where have you been?
Starting point is 00:15:04 I know, right? He dated like the blue butterfly lady or whatever since then. He's got another chick now. Like, where have you been? Whatever happened to him? Whatever happened to him and Danica Patrick? Again, they broke up.
Starting point is 00:15:16 I know. Shit. Yeah, I just don't like him. And Juergens was, we call her Juergens because that was the character that she played on a wonderful show. If you haven't watched it, you should.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I don't know what platform it's on. Go watch The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Wonderful show. She was, Amy Juergens was her character's name on the show and she got knocked up when she was 15. So we just call her Juergens in our own home conversation. She's known as Juergens.
Starting point is 00:15:47 I really thought they were going to make it because they're two crackpots, but I guess the two crackpots together couldn't make it. So Juergens and A-Rodge didn't make it. Breaking news, everybody. Juergens and Aaron Rodgers are no longer together.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Welcome to 2021. I'm sorry that I'm a little late to the party and had no idea that Juergens and Aaron Rodgers are splitting the sheets. And I'm sorry, but hey, I thought, look, if that love couldn't make it, then maybe there is no love at all. Maybe love is dead. I don't know. But I find him to be full of shit. Jilly, what are your thoughts on Nico Collins being out for four weeks?
Starting point is 00:16:25 That's our guy. We like to take him for receiving yards. How do you think this impacts our Texans? Well, hopefully Tank Dell steps the fuck up because he hasn't really done much this season. That's true. And you know, it's going to be even bigger for them, those when they get Mixon back. Once they're able to really kind of establish a better running game, which they haven't been able to do as much the last couple of weeks since Mixon went out, I think that's going to help. Other football injury stuff, due to the, you know, thanks to, you know, the grace of God, Derek Carr is finally not playing football for a game, which very rarely happens. Now, if God were on my side, he would have had that son of a bitch
Starting point is 00:16:58 get hurt after he threw for four more fucking yards the other night. You can't have everything. No, I think you're right right i think that if you said josh you could have won that six or seven hundred dollar play if he would have thrown for four more yards but if that happened you'd be guaranteed to see derrick carr play the rest of the season i think i would have said you know what i will sacrifice that seven hundred dollar victory that $700 victory just so I wouldn't have to watch Derek Carr play anymore. And the Saints are starting a gentleman by the name of Spencer Rattler who played at multiple places in college, but most notably, I think it was only two, Oklahoma and then South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:17:44 My man was a game cock when it was all said and done he's one of the highest picks the the Saints have had a quarterback in forever and look I don't know if he's going to be any good or not we bet on him in the preseason to throw for some yards he did thank you very much I forgot what I hit on him that one day that I took or it was him to have a touchdown pass on the first drive of the game because those were the bets that were available for preseason. Nailed it. And you actually used to hate him a lot, but now you're very excited.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Well, because he just looks annoying to me, but now he's the quarterback for my New Orleans Saints, and he's not Derek Carr. That's really the only prerequisite for me to enjoy you as a quarterback for the Saints. They'll say, hey, is he Derek Carr? If you say no, then I like you. That's why I've liked guys like Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis Winston. Go down the list of these guys that have played quarterback. Taysom Hill. Who's the other dude? I mean, they've had multiple dopes. The one dude, Ian Book, who started a game for the Saints a couple years ago.
Starting point is 00:18:48 The quarterback from Notre Dame who was terrible. Oh, Trevor Simeon, who, by the way, just signed with the Titans. I only know this because I get my information from hoops from 2 to 6 every afternoon on 102.5 The game in Nashville. Uh, but like a down the list of these shitty quarterbacks who've played there, I have convinced myself that they'd all be okay because a, they played for the saints and B they weren't Derek car. So I look at my man, Spencer Rattler or Spency Ratley, as I call him, or my affectionate pet name for this man who has never played a snap of regular season nfl football he's the ratley man and i think the ratley man can it it's so sad
Starting point is 00:19:34 how we are as sports fans that we can convince ourselves with no actual like no there's no reason to believe that spencer rattler's gonna come in and be a hero but we hate the starting quarterback so much that we're like I've convinced myself that this guy who's never played a down of NFL football in his life is gonna come out and be better than Derek Carr who for as much as I hate him the guy's thrown for 40,000 yards in his career mostly empty yards because he plays for shitty teams but i think he's one of 25 players ever or something to throw for 40 000 yards yet i'm like i hate this son of a bitch and i'd rather spencey ratley the ratley man uh be quarterback honestly i would have rather that dude that came
Starting point is 00:20:15 in after uh car got hurt last night hainer but i'm glad i would rather him over car not over spencer rattler i mean at least like the spencer rattattler, there's some potential, maybe some excitement. This Hainer guy just seemed like every other backup quarterback in the history of backup quarterbacks, who's just blah. You know what? Spencer Rattler could be my albino skin steaming Willie Beeman. He might go in there and just light the fucking
Starting point is 00:20:37 world on fire, and I wouldn't doubt. I'm a believer. I am a believer in that. Another rookie quarterback making a debut is going to be Drake May. How do we feel about Drake May? Are you concerned as the number one Houston Texans fan in the world? Diehard Texans fan. Are you concerned?
Starting point is 00:20:54 Because we know what Jacoby Brisket is. The old Brisket sucks ass. We know that. We don't know if Drake May sucks ass. He may. But how concerned are you as the number one Texans fan? I don't know fan i'm more concerned about nico being out honestly but i mean i would have rather jacoby brissett that said and you just
Starting point is 00:21:12 came off a big emotional win like this is this is a setup for a letdown and it's new england that that always bothers me and i know the patriots are terrible but still i refuse to get too excited because i don't want to be super let down. Okay, I think you can get excited. Nope. I think you can, and I'll tell you why you can get excited. Because it's not New England. New England was Belichick and Brady. The Jared... I get playing there
Starting point is 00:21:35 for whatever reason when they play there. I get that, but playing there is still playing Brady and Belichick. You're playing Gerard Mayo and Drake May. Like, if the Texans are worth a shit at all, they should go out and beat the living hell out of these guys. They should, but, I mean, that was a big win last week.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Last-minute win. As you know, that's usually a sign for a letdown the next week. I just don't believe that there's anything the Patriots do that is something that the Texans should worry about and by that I mean like they don't have dynamic playmakers at wide receiver the Texans can give up big plays like last week they didn't other than the short pass that went for 50 yards but they didn't give up big over the top stuff but teams like the Colts who have dudes that could make those kind of plays did do that to them right like so they don't do that they have a rookie
Starting point is 00:22:25 quarterback they're just not good at anything particularly as new england like i don't believe the texans should have a problem in this game now could there be a letdown early on i guess maybe because you're right they did play a big game last week have you looked at the lines at all yet this week no all right let's try to take a guess because i haven't either what do you think the texans are favored by i have not looked yet i want your guess before you look it up so doing the math on this you've got rookie quarterback now granted it's on the road but the texans are decidedly better than new team the new england take a guess on how many you think the texans should be favored by eight and a half I'm going to say you're probably right on now I might go a little bit lower only because I'm gonna say
Starting point is 00:23:12 because it's on the road and they're coming off of the game to me I think they're gonna win by two scores and if they don't it's a failure anything less than a two-score victory over a rookie quarterback and a team that has no weapons, I'm like, okay. I'm going to say it's probably six and a half. It's seven. Okay, so we met in the middle on that. To be fair, how do you know they don't have any weapons? They had Jacoby Brissett.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Maybe the wide receivers turn into weapons now. The one kid from Washington is pretty good if you get him the ball. Jalen Polk we're talking about? To a degree, yes. And maybe, maybe they'll throw an 80 yard touchdown i think drake may at least gives that kind of like in the same case of spencer rattler the rattly man for those who are uninitiated like you have belief because you don't know what he can or can't do now you can also let me look around the league at rookie
Starting point is 00:24:01 quarterbacks i think each week you've seen improvement from Caleb Williams. All fucking year, you've seen nothing but balling from JD5, right? So I don't know what we're going to see. Drake May was highly touted coming out. He ain't got nobody, but we'll see. I'm not concerned. The Texans, you saw what they did against Caleb Williams. Number one overall pick. The Bears, granted, in Houston, 13 points. And they kicked his ass. I mean, he, you've seen what he's done the last couple of weeks since then that game, they held him, I think under a hundred yards in that game, he had better playmakers than, uh, than Drake may has. So I think, I mean, I think they should beat the shit out of these guys. I get the big game let down from last week. No Nico.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Obviously a huge deal. They got to kick the shit out of them. They have to. It would be nice to see them kick the shit out of somebody. They've yet to do it this season. So what of their margin of victory? What was like four in week one? They've all been close except the time they got blown out by the Vikings.
Starting point is 00:25:01 I believe. Let me try to. I think they won by three or four in week one. They won by six against the Bears. They won, what, by three or four over Jacksonville. And they won last week by three. So on average, I think they're winning by about a field goal in their four games. And they come down to these final drives.
Starting point is 00:25:22 That's what happens. It's razor sharp. And that's not the kind of place you actually want to live. A lot of teams that live that way kind of live by the sword, die by the sword type of deal when you're in that scenario. So you'd like to see them go out and beat the shit out of someone and have an easy victory. And if they were playing the Patriots at home with a rookie quarterback, my guess is they'd be one of the biggest favorites of the year.
Starting point is 00:25:43 They'd probably be a 9 or 10 point favorite of that game. They'd be a huge favorite, but they should go out there and have their biggest victory of the year. There's no excuse to go on the road, bad team with a good defensive coach that you have. Now you don't know anything about Drake May. So that's one thing, like there could be some shit that surprises you, but you should be able to go out and dominate that game. To me, it's inexcusable to not go out and dominate that game. If it was Percent, at least the guy's a pro. He's been there.
Starting point is 00:26:13 He's had games before. He's played well before. You've got to light this motherfucker up. There's the second biggest favorite of the week. Would you like to guess who the biggest favorite of the week is? I'm trying to think of what the other matchups are. Let's see. I don't know what the matchups are, so I can't guess.
Starting point is 00:26:30 What is it? The Eagles are nine-point favorites over the Browns. One day, something's going to adjust, and people are going to realize that the Eagles suck. They're not good. Well, they're getting both AJ and Devontae back. To me, this is a whole lot more about how bad the Browns are than how good the Eagles are.
Starting point is 00:26:53 The Eagles are not good. This is not a good time. They weren't great when they were both there. Correct. They should have lost to Derek Carr is who they should have lost to. Well, AJ Brown didn't play in that game. Yeah, but neither did our center. So up your nose with the rubber hose, Eagles.
Starting point is 00:27:06 No, but I was saying my point was they weren't great when they had both of their big dog receivers. They were fine. I guess A.J. really only played one game. Oh, I know. I get what you're saying, but point being...
Starting point is 00:27:17 They wowed me. No, because they're not good. And I don't think Jalen Hurts is good either. But speaking of Philly, may the Phillies rest in peace. I tweeted just a random commentary about the Phillies the other day about how people are blaming the manager and I'm like people should be blaming Harper and all these other big money hitters because if you've listened to me for any amount of time you know that I think managers are a giant
Starting point is 00:27:38 waste of time like for the most part they don't win a lot of games for you they don't lose a lot of games for you I mean what do you tell them hey guys go up there they don't win a lot of games for you. They don't lose a lot of games for you. I mean, what do you tell them? Hey guys, go up there and don't strike out. Like, cool. You're paid 3 million a year to do that. Like baseball managers are a giant waste. So I don't believe in them. So people's immediate instinct when a team loses is fire the manager.
Starting point is 00:27:57 And I'm like, well, why would you fire the manager when your big money dudes aren't coming through? And I guess the right person either liked it or retweeted it. And it currently has almost 2000 likes. So I keep getting tweets from random McDougal, some of whom are like that. I agree. And then a lot of them are like, go fuck yourself. The manager sucks. And I'm like, listen, you can shit on the manager all you want, but a manager is only as smart as the big hitters getting the big hits, big pitchers getting the strikeouts, right? Like, Bryce Harper sucked outside of one game in this series.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Kyle Schwarber sucked outside of one game in this series. Castellanos sucked outside of one game in this series. They're not good. Like, they're talented. They are the ones that failed. The starting pitching failed for the most part. I mean, like, look, they scored one meaningful run in the last 18 innings of that series. And you're going to tell me that's the manager's fault. Like people are idiots that oversimplify things. And like, it's easy to just yell about firing the manager as opposed to saying,
Starting point is 00:28:55 hey, maybe our lineup isn't all that good and we need better talent. So, um, and then some days you just run into a hot team. The Mets are that team. The Mets are kind of doing what the 11 Cardinals did. You know, you get in dude The Mets are kind of doing what the 11 Cardinals did. You know, you get in. Dude, the Detroit Tigers are doing exactly what the Cardinals did, right? In 11, the Cardinals were like 10 games out of the wild card in the middle of August, got hot, got in. They went in and upset the Phillies,
Starting point is 00:29:18 who had the greatest rotation ever at the time, and beat them in five games. Then went to the next round and beat a very good Brewers team to go to the World Series and then beat the Rangers in the World Series. So you're getting that. A lot of people are talking about just the absurdity of the baseball playoffs where getting a bye is actually to your detriment. Baseball's one of those sports, because it's a day-in, day-out sport, where momentum is a real thing. Like, momentum isn't real in football. In a game, it is. But, like, over the course of a season, you've got six days between games.
Starting point is 00:29:50 Like, momentum can fade. You know, you get in, and, like, you get in the last day of the season. In theory, you're not set up for success because you're missing out on your best pitchers, in theory, being in the playoffs. But that doesn't matter to a lot of these teams. Like, look at Detroit. Detroit has one starting pitcher. That's it. And they're still winning these games.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Look at the Mets, the Mets who were teetering on the brink of not making the postseason. And now they're moving on to the LCS. Like be at the Yankees look like they're going to advance at least at this point, but look at the Royals. The Royals are another team that's fighting to get in and they were tied 2-2 in the eighth inning of that game against the Yankees in game three so like baseball playoffs and I guess I would imagine the Dodgers held on to win today I mean they're up like six nothing so that's going to be a 2-2 series so we get a Mike Schilt game five that's exciting but like I've been seeing people talk about why it's not a seven game series to
Starting point is 00:30:47 why don't we get more long series to start like you're probably right the nba probably does the playoffs the best just a bunch of seven game series to kind of truly tell you who the better team is but this is baseball i'm not trying to go all you know roger kator of southern university on you, but that's baseball. They used to do five games in the NBA, like the first round, didn't they? Correct. I forgot when they changed it, but now it's all seven game series. But even a five game series is still, you know, one where like there's not a decided advantage in a five game series, but seven, I think generally speaking, people would tell you that seven kind of truly lets the cream rise.
Starting point is 00:31:26 But those same people, when you talk about the NCAA basketball tournament, look at the number of teams that on a given day of a 14 seed upsets a three seed. And if they played 10 times that, I mean, the three seed would probably win 10 of them, nine of them. But, you know, one day, and that's kind of what you're doing with baseball now. The 2022 Phillies versus the 2022 Cardinals Cardinals had the home field advantage in that thing and lost the two games to the Phillies went and won a playoff series in a decade or a well over a decade at that point so anyway all right I appreciate you guys you're wonderful folks we get uh football Thursday night football that'll be exciting. We'll talk about that, I guess, maybe a little bit later, maybe tomorrow. I guess I'm recording this at 11 o'clock at night.
Starting point is 00:32:13 You're going to hear it tomorrow morning. So I'm sure before I get up and listen to my podcasts and do my walk-in and email people who probably won't respond to me, some of them do, some of them don't. But either way uh maybe i'll knock out something else i'm sure something interesting will happen overnight and uh there maybe we'll talk about it all right see you guys later appreciate you
