Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, so I guess I should actually talk about the Will Wade thing now, now that I set the whole thing up by telling you that politics and college sports are equally as gross and terrible. And that led to a 40-minute discussion, or not a discussion, a 40-minute diatribe about old-school YouTube videos. So I might as well talk about this actual story and the big picture of all of it. So let's play a couple commercials and let's get into it. Because I got a new athletic director, the governor's involved.
Starting point is 00:01:09 I am from, at least, you know, I spent the bulk of my life, the longest I've ever lived anywhere in Louisiana. My home state is truly one of the most fucked up places on the planet. And it's truly a fascinating place, but it is certainly fucked up. But let's start here. So the athletic director at North Carolina State, his name is Boo. B-O-O-O-B-Corrigan. And he spoke with the media about Will Wade, and he was not happy about the way things played out with Will Wade. Let's hear from old Boo Corgan.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I think I'm going to start going by Boo. I think that's going to change my fortunes. I'm just boo. Boo in us. All right, let's listen to some of this. This is the full press conference from this guy, Boo Corrigan, so we'll kind of hop and bob through it here. But let's see.
Starting point is 00:02:03 I just want to thank everyone for coming out today. I think Philip Rivers said it, right? And thinking about who we are, what we are. The way this guy is dressed, by the way, is exactly how I would anticipate a middle-aged man named Boo to dress. He's got like, you know, like a dressier-type shirt, like a lacot. Not like a lacost, but like a lecost,
Starting point is 00:02:24 but like a, I don't even know what brand, you know, like, whatever. Like, you know, it's like an old guy's shirt. Not like a short sleeve shirt, like a Tommy Baham or something like that. But it's like a, you know, just like a dressier shirt. But it's unbuttoned a couple of buttons. There's no tie. He's got like a white undershirt under it. And I can't see his pants.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I'm going to assume they're just, you know, I'm going to guess like a khaki color of slacks type of deal. And he's got his sunglasses. perched atop his gray hair, like a salt and pepper hair, sunglasses on top of the salt and pepper hair, and very tan. So that is boo. He looks exactly like what I'd imagine a guy named Boo Corrigan looks like. Like a guy that like hangs out at golf courses a lot and just kind of hangs out, sometimes golfs, but mostly just hangs out with the guys to be part of the country club.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Like he's in the country club. doesn't golf a ton, goes to some of the functions type of guy, but likes to drink at the country club, maybe plays racquetball still. You know, boo, boo Corrigan. The Wolfpack ain't for soft people. Did Philip Rivers say that? You don't say, the Wolfpack ain't for soft people. Because when I think of tough, gritty people, I think of the North Carolina State Wolfpack. That's what I think about. We're going to go find a coach that agrees and understands.
Starting point is 00:03:53 who we are and what we are. For the past seven years, we built a culture. You ever notice that the guys, like the second you get, like, jilted by someone, like someone leaves you and goes to a different school, all of a sudden, that guy that you thought was super tough the whole time, the guy that you told your audience was a tough guy and a forthright guy, because he left for another job because he felt that was a better job, all of a sudden that guy's just not tough enough for you. It's kind of like whenever, like, somebody doesn't want to bang you or date you, so you
Starting point is 00:04:22 tell yourself that you're just too good for them when in reality like they're probably just really hot and maybe just want to fuck someone else but you have to convince yourself that they were the problem or that they just you know what you're not man enough for me or you know what she's just too much of a bitch for me like it's always when these people get dumped by a coach that that coach is no longer tough although like a week ago he was the toughest guy ever but now that he's you know going over to lSU for whatever reason he's going i don't think it's money but whatever reason he's going over to LSU, unfinished business, whatever, he's going over there. Now he's not tough enough to coach at North Carolina State.
Starting point is 00:04:57 I also understand you have to say this kind of shit because that's kind of part of what the gig is. Like you have to go up there and rally your troops. But all of a sudden this guy you thought was the greatest coach ever a week ago is now a piece of shit in your eyes. But anyway, we continue. In the athletic department, based on trust and accountability, we got coaches that want to be at NC State. they want to be a part of who we are, what we are, and represent this great university. We thought we had someone
Starting point is 00:05:26 that came in last year to lead our men's basketball program. We thought we had a guy that was known to be a lion's sack of shit that cheated when he was at LSU the first time, got fired for cause, and then had to work his way back up through coaching at McNeese State. But we thought we had ourselves a real noble guy that was going to come in here and he was going to be our guy.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Like, we thought maybe he had gosote his wild oats, but now he was ready to settle down with us. That's what we thought we had, at least. And over the course of the last year, we had developed a relationship that I believe was based on trust and accountability. Oh, poor guy built a relationship on trust with Will Wade. Oh, I said I've got to get out to Munson.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Minds me that scene in Kingpin, basically anytime Big Earn was talking to Roy Munson. Like, oh, I said that to Munson. Like, you literally thought, like, hey, we built a relationship on trust with a guy who seems like, whether he's a good coach, whatever. Seems like one of the slimyest dudes to ever walk the face of the earth. And you're like, oh, we built a real relationship here. We thought it was built on trust.
Starting point is 00:06:38 You know, maybe this is a shame on you situation, boo. There were a number of different conversations that had occurred. over the past year, involving our program, involving everything else in the landscape of college sports, including Tuesday evening for two hours, to talk about the entire program. Okay, so let's see, two hours. I'm fascinated by this kind of shit, because, like, this is the way of the world. And we'll get into talking about how you get the Jay Billises and these kind of guys that are like, oh, it's totally fine for coaches to leave, but the players can't leave.
Starting point is 00:07:12 That's the most low-hanging fruit, stupid, trying to get likes from dipshit's type of comment ever. But we'll look into that. So, Tuesday. So this went down Thursday. Today's Friday, right? So that went down Thursday. That means Tuesday, old boo here and Will Wade had a conversation is what happened about, you know, what needs to happen for him to stay at North Carolina State.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Remember, like, contracts are binding, yes, but there are buyouts. That's part of the contract. If the guy was never planning on leaving, then maybe there wouldn't have. been a buyout, but it's always there. You know where there aren't buyouts? Marriages. There are buyouts and contracts for college coaches. And scheduling and the players and staff and everything that goes into that. Do you get spammed? Hold on. You guys are dropping commercials on me right in the middle of Boo Corgan's press conference. Eat shit, YouTube. There was no reason for me in my job not to believe
Starting point is 00:08:10 the words that I was hearing. Yes, there are. They're coming from a college coach. There is quite literally no reason for you to ever believe anything this man says, not just because he's seemingly a slime ball, but because he's a college coach. The core
Starting point is 00:08:26 of being a college coach, even before we were paying players, the core of being a college coach was being full of shit. Telling every young player out there that he was going to come to your place and you think he's the best player ever. That's the reason why, you dip shit. it. Sorry, boo. You seem like a nice enough guy. You wear your sunglasses on your head when you do a press conference.
Starting point is 00:08:46 You wear lacrosse shirts. You seem like a real stand-up guy. But like the idea that you had no reason to believe that the guy wasn't telling you the truth of being honest. He's a college coach. Like does boo, does our buddy boo go into the strip club and be like, I had no reason to believe that she didn't love me and think I was the best-looking guy in the club? When you go to Hooters, an old girl puts her arm around you and tells you that you're handsome? And then she doesn't come home with you? Do you tell your buddies? I had no reason to believe that
Starting point is 00:09:19 she didn't want to fuck. Coming back to me from Coach Wade. And I believe everyone here saw it, wrote about it, whatever it is. Did I want to be at NC State? That's where I want to be.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I look forward to growing it. Of course, what other option does he have? Then you had, I mean, It's a seedy, gross business that's built on lies, lies, lies. Was it surprised and shocked as anyone else as this occurred based on the previous conversations that we had? I believed he was telling me his true intentions. Well, again, big mistake, huge. What's the line there in Pretty Woman?
Starting point is 00:10:07 Big mistake, huge. Your mistake was believing anything that came out of any college coach's mouth, particularly Will fucking Wade. I'm disappointed for our athletic department. I'm disappointed for our fans and I'm disappointed for our university that we're here today.
Starting point is 00:10:31 That being said, you should be disappointed that you went out and hired a guy that rolled out on you because he's a college coach and college coaches are dishonest people. They have to be. When they talk to prospects, even back in the day before they paid him, when they went to a living room and sat with mom and dad said, I'm going to take care of your boy. They're all full of shit. Again, it's politics. As soon as we received notice of his resignation, the search began.
Starting point is 00:10:59 And we are committed to- And let me guess. You guys are going to find the best coach out there that's someone that wants to be at North Carolina State. And then whoever it is, you decide to settle on, because nobody else is out there, whenever you decide to settle on this, then what's going to end up happening? Because, by the way, there's also a school right down the road from you at North Carolina that's looking for a coach. So that's a tough shit spot to be in. So because they're going to get a better coach than you are, clearly.
Starting point is 00:11:23 They're North Carolina. So they're going to get a better coach. So you're going to go out there and we're going to find the best coach and a coach that wants to be here. And whoever you bring in, you're going to say really wants to be here and it's the best possible candidate and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. The next coach for our men's basketball program that wants to be at NC State. Ah, of course.
Starting point is 00:11:42 They always do. They always do until they don't, pal. That's in any job. Everybody wants the job until they don't want it anymore, until something better comes along, right? That's the way this works. It understands who we are. And I'm not saying I like Will Wade. I think Will Wade just oozes slime from his little fucking weird inner tube stomach. He's built like my grandma was built.
Starting point is 00:12:03 He's built like Chicago Party Ant. Go watch an episode of Chicago Party Ant. Look at the way she's built. That's how Will Wade is built, okay? Like you can look at this however you choose to. But like you made the mistake of believing that anything involving college coaches or college athletics is rooted in any sort of truth. It is not. It understands it were a tough school.
Starting point is 00:12:26 It understands it were a great academic institution. By the way, Will Wade didn't leave North Carolina State because he's not tough. He left because he wanted to go to LSU. It has nothing to do with how tough the guy is or not. And I know that that's what you have to say to, you know, rouse your fan base a little bit and let them think. that hey look out everybody like this guy is such a piece of shit and and we're we believe in what we're doing here and we're a tough school and that son of a bitch isn't tough enough getting ready for a game means being ready for anything like packing a spare stick i like to be
Starting point is 00:13:04 prepared that's why i remember nine eight kanda suicide crisis helpline it's good to know just in case anyone can call or text for free confidential support from a train responder anytime The site crisis helpline is funded by the government in Canada.
