Starting point is 00:00:30 All right, let's take a look at some headlines here. This is from Jefferson County, Missouri, Fenton, Missouri. So that is the suburbs of St. Louis, kind of a more rural-ish suburb. People say that. Every time I talk with people about Jefferson County, they talk about how the people are all hillbillies and shit. I never had a problem with any of the people.
Starting point is 00:00:52 I did a lot of appearances out in Jefferson County. I hit up Fenton a lot for my door dashing. Speaking of door dashing, was there a story that I didn't tell you guys? Because I did some dashing the other day with Jilly. And if I told this story already I apologize but I was out in Fenton and I went to a trailer park which I go to a lot of trailer parks in this area Fenton Missouri and I pull up I bring this lady her Starbucks which was interesting because the Starbucks was miles and miles away so by the time I got there this Frappuccino was probably already melted, right? But I knock on the trailer door.
Starting point is 00:01:30 And it's this lady. She's, you know, just like a big gal, right? And hairy. Hairy. And I knock on the door and I deliver the the Starbucks and she says stop I go okay what I want to give you a cash tip I go well that's awful nice and she gave me five dollars I'm like well that's very nice lady I appreciate that I appreciate the five dollars it's very nice of you she goes because that's what I do for a living as well so I want to take care of everyone who does
Starting point is 00:02:04 it and I'm looking around and I'm like, I see this trailer and I ain't like some upscale trailer park. This is like some real, like my name is Earl type shit. This is like, like you expect to see rabbit and his mom in this trailer, like rabbit's mom getting plowed on the couch in this trailer park. Like it is not a good trailer park. And I had this moment where I'm like, holy shit, this could be my life. Thank you for showing me the future, lady. I appreciate the $5,
Starting point is 00:02:32 and thank you for showing me my future. My future is, in fact, living in this rundown, jank-ass trailer park, tipping people $5 for Starbucks. So, thank you. I appreciate you for showing me things but uh and i don't know that anything else i don't know if i've done any other interesting dashes lately i'm trying to think if i've seen anything uh interesting i don't think so i think i've told you all the interesting ones haven't been to a ton lately so um i thought there was
Starting point is 00:03:03 one god was trying to go back and think if I think of it I'll tell you because I did some dashing over the weekend I think like Friday and Saturday I did some dashing and I'm just trying to think if any of them were like significant or not but probably not anywho let me play a couple commercials here and we will get to this story out of Fenton, Missouri. Jefferson County man kills wife, says he didn't want her to die in a nursing home.
Starting point is 00:05:25 See, here's the thing. I haven't read any of the details of this story. But I think I'm already on this guy's side. Because I think about this a lot. I often think about how I'd like to die. And this kind of goes back to dashing. So I've gone to nursing homes before. Not like old folks communities or whatever where people live in their own little apartment and there's like communal get togethers and people play bingo on Saturdays. I'm talking about like legit nursing homes where people are sitting there waiting to die. dashes to places like this you know you go in and it has that that smell you know the smell if you've
Starting point is 00:06:05 ever been to a nursing home you know the smell so I've gone in and like I've brought in I think I brought Sonic to this lady just sitting in this room and she was sharing a room with the lady who was on death's door just laying there like struggling to breathe and this lady was watching the wheel you know in her chair waiting for Sonic and like, holy shit, I don't want to live life like this. This sounds like a horrible way to go. I delivered a couple weeks ago to somebody who got a delivery at an old folks home. This was an actual nurse. This wasn't a patient.
Starting point is 00:06:36 But it was so weird that they just let me walk into this patient's room. They were like, do you just want to deliver it to her yourself? I'm like, sure. Why I said sure, I don't know. I could have just left the fucking food at the table and they would have brought it. But no, I'm like, no, I want to see it to her yourself I'm like sure why I said sure I don't know I could have just left the fucking food at the table and they would have brought it but no I'm like no I want to see the future I want to see what death looks like so I did it but um then I delivered another one and as I'm delivering this woman her you know I don't know Starbucks or whatever there's a lady being wheeled out on a stretcher and I'm fairly certain she was dead like boy what a life
Starting point is 00:07:06 this is uh but I'm freaked out like death doesn't like the idea of dying doesn't freak me out and I don't know if this sounds self-serving or what but it's kind of the idea of no longer being here like what like it's so weird to me to think that one day you're here and you know you're here and then you're not here. What happens then? I'm sure we all think of these things. I'm not on an island here, but it's like that. Like I sit there and I find myself going like, how weird is that? Like, what does it feel like? What does death feel like? What do you see? What do you experience? The only info I have on this is episodes of, you know, unsolved mysteries where a guy's working on
Starting point is 00:07:43 the car, car falls on him and he's dead for like 10 minutes and he sees heaven and shit that's the only thing we got so but uh I often wonder these things but it is important and relevant to this story so again the headline reads Jefferson County man kills wife says he didn't want her to die in a nursing home a Jefferson County man was charged with murder Friday after he told police he shot and killed his wife because he was exhausted by taking care of her but did not want her to die in a nursing home. Well, that's also kind of shitty.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Like, if you're going to kill her, I don't think your lead in this can be, by the way, I just got sick and tired of caring for the bitch and I didn't want to take her to a nursing home. Like gotta like make up a lie like you're probably I mean you're not gonna get away with it but you gotta at least make something up like she was just tired of going on and and she didn't want to be moved into a nursing home and I thought this was kind of a considerate way to take care of it I thought I was being noble the Jefferson Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged 73-year-old Kenneth Potler with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held without
Starting point is 00:08:51 bond in the Jefferson County Jail. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, they were called to the home of Karen and Kenneth Potler in the one block of Frontier Trail in Fenton around 2.15 p.m. Friday after a relative of Kenneth called them to report that Kenneth had shot Karen. Like, listen, you got to get her like on tape being like, hey, I don't want to go to a nursing home and I'd like my husband to kill me. And I like something, right? According to the general, okay, we did that. When investigators arrived, Kenneth Potler met them at the front door and let them in. He's like, come on in, fellas.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Dead wife's by the, she's by the fridge. Inside the home, investigators found the body of 75-year-old Karen Potler on the floor of the bedroom with a wound in her lower back and upper arm. Kenneth Potler gave investigators the gun he used. Okay, that feels like a shitty way, like an inhumane way to kill someone. Like, yep, shot her in the back. Like, eh. What if she didn't die right away? You gotta at least try to deliver a shot that's gonna kill her right away.
Starting point is 00:09:54 You don't want her to suffer. It's like when you hit a critter on the road and it's still alive, or you see a critter on the road that's still alive. The humane thing to do is put it out of its misery. Don't just let it lay there and suffer while it dies, you sack of shit. During an interview at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office headquarters, Kenneth Potler told investigators his wife, Karen Potler, had mental health conditions, and in the past few days, he had become exhausted while trying to care for her.
Starting point is 00:10:19 See, that's not the angle. Listen, I'm not advocating shooting your wife by any means. I want to be very clear. But the angle to take if you're trying to get away with it is not, boy, she's just real tough to take care of. It's got to be she was miserable and not happy, and she wanted me to do this so she didn't have to be put in a home. He then told investigators that Friday morning he decided he did not want his wife to die in a nursing home and decided to kill her instead.
Starting point is 00:10:46 See, in a way, that's actually kind of an honorable thing to do. You know, you don't want your wife to suffer in an old folks home, so why not just kill her right here? Again, you're a murderer and you're going to go to jail, but it sounds like his heart was in the right place. Kenneth advised he wanted the victim's death to be humane, so he chose a specific cartridge for the firearm. Kenneth also stated he chose his shot placement to kill the victim as quick as possible. See, what do I know about shooting?
Starting point is 00:11:16 Apparently, he studied this shit. Look, I don't know a ton about shooting people and guns and everything like that, so apparently Kenneth Potler here, he really figured shit out. He went to work on guns and everything like that. So apparently Kenneth Potler here, he really figured shit out. He went to work on this and is like, listen here, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to shoot you and I'm going to shoot you in a place where it's going to kill you the fastest. I would have assumed you just blow her head off and like that would be the way to go. Although that would make for a mess for the funeral. The probable cause statement said
Starting point is 00:11:42 investigators don't believe Kenneth potler would appear in court because he quote has made multiple statements advising he no longer wants to live and he wants to end his life so he can be with his victim an initial court appearance for kenneth potler has not been said as of this publication so that's uh that's what's going on in jefferson county missouri right now as this 73-old man shot his wife because he got tired of taking care of her and now he wants to be with her. In a way, it's kind of romantic. If Nicholas Sparks wrote this shit or Shakespeare, you'd be like, well, that's fucking sweet. But instead, we look at this man like he's evil. Also, I've got more stories. Another one out of
Starting point is 00:12:19 St. Louis. Jilly has just started sending me all these stories now, which I appreciate. I miss her on the show because I miss just having her read me stories and letting me react. When we're just sitting around the house and she reads stories to me or tweets and I react, it's fantastic. But then we don't do this shit together anymore because she's busy and I'm busy. Hopefully when we move somewhere, we will team up again. We will put the band back together and the podcast will just be me reacting to Jelly telling me dumb stories. Headline, 18-year-old struck and killed by fire truck at Midtown intersection. That's in St. Louis. Now you might say, well, Josh, that's not a good story to talk about. Why are we discussing this story? Well, let's find out how this woman got hit by a fire truck and then maybe
Starting point is 00:13:02 we'll see if it's worth discussing. A woman is dead after falling from a vehicle and being struck by a fire truck in South St. Louis Saturday night. So she fell out of a car or fell like I don't know what did she do? Did she fall out of a car? What happened? According to a spokesperson with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department the crash happened around 11 20 p.m. at the intersection of South Compton and Chateau avenues. Police said a Cadillac Escalade was stopped at the red light on the corner when the vehicle turned left. Nyla Simmons who'd been dancing on the roof lost her balance and fell to the pavement. Simmons was struck by a firetruck moments later as firefighters
Starting point is 00:13:45 were responding to an emergency call. That's some final destination shit there. Anything that could go wrong went wrong for Nyla Simmons. You think it's just a nice Saturday night of dancing on top of an escalade when boom, a wrong turn, you fall off. Oh, it just so happens the firetruck is blowing right by, right by at the moment you're just trying to have a teen wolf you're dancing on the tops i'm guessing they were listening to surfing usa and she's doing a little dance falls off and before she can get up boom fire truck takes her out that's like just a that's a that is the what is that, Murphy's Law? Anything that bad can and will happen? Holy shit. St. Louis, fucked up shit happens here, man.
Starting point is 00:14:31 I mean, it's just a weird place when it comes to bad shit. Like, there was a video last year. I think Drake was in town, and this mother and daughter were crossing the road after the Drake concert. And some dude was going like 120 miles an hour through downtown St. Louis and hit them. And when I tell you, when you see the surveillance video, they evaporated. They are there one minute and then just gone.
Starting point is 00:14:55 This motherfucker pulverized them, turned them to dust. There was another person that was in town for a volleyball tournament, got hit by a car in downtown St louis lost both of her legs like bad shit happens here i'm like not to say that bad shit doesn't happen everywhere it just feels like it happens more here that makes sense me and jelly were walking to the deaf leopard concert back in july somebody just gets plugged right out right out in the street. Like a block from us.
Starting point is 00:15:27 You could hear the gunshots. Like what the fuck. I'm just trying to see some old dude sing classic rock. I don't want to die today. What a way to go though. Like you got your whole life in front of you. You're like man. Dancing on the roof of this escalade is going to get me somewhere. I'm going places.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Dancing on the roof of this escalade. It's one thing to fall off. You're probably still alive when you fall off. You're probably injured. Probably hurts a little bit. But you fell off. And you're alive. And then, oh, firetrucks coming, guys.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Boom! Dead. What a world. St. Louis, what a place.
