The Josh Innes Show - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus v. MAGA
Episode Date: June 19, 2025Do you remember the alt rock band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus? They had a pretty solid banger called " Face Down" back in the day. Anywho, they are in the news because the lead singer has banned Trump ...voters from their shows. But, as is usually the case with people making these type of grand gestures, the guy is a total putz and hypocrite. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Donald Trump v MAGA RJA versus MAGA we got Raja versus MAGA if you don't know who red jumpsuit
apparatus is and look I'm not sitting here I'm not here to shit on Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, okay.
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus had like one kind of crossover song
in that era where Top 40 Radio
had a lot of rock influence in it.
And that was in the early 2000s
and basically up until like 2010.
There was still a pretty heavy rock, and
even a little bit further than that, I guess, but like a pop
punky type of rock vibe, or a dad rock vibe that you would
hear a lot on Top 40 Radio. So in the early 2000s, you would
get, you know, Nickelback and Creed still, but then you'd get
these kind of one or two hit bands that had moments that
would be on Top 40 Radio, like Puddle of Mud or Fuel or Daughtry, Nickelback. Obviously Nickelback had more
than like two hits, but those kind of bands are the kind of
Hinder. You would have those kind of bands three doors down
and they would have a couple of crossover hits because it was a
weird era where you had rock and you had rap and you had pop and
it all kind of fell into the top 40 genre and top 40 radio was playing rock.
You don't get that a lot now.
You did back then.
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is a band that had one song that I know and I think it's the one song anybody would know of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus called Face Down.
And it's a song I think about a guy that's like beating the shit out of his girlfriend or something. It's like a lady
empowerment song. Do you feel like a man when you push her
around? Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Please tell you my friend one day this world's gonna end this
day. I think I've had enough
It's Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, very similar to that. So anyway
I couldn't tell you another Red Jumpsuit Apparatus song, I know that one.
They're probably one of those bands that's got a cult following, plays
smaller venues, sells 25-30 tickets, still makes a living touring and making
music, and they're a hardcore group of people know them but big picture
they're not a band that anybody really cares about RadioWise
or Album Saleswise.
So apparently though the singer of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
had this to say, lead singer Ronnie Winter spoke out against
supporters of the controversial president in a fiery video shared on his Instagram page.
Quote, if you're Christian and you're watching this and you voted for Donald
Trump, shame on you. Winter, a self-identified
Christian, said in the June 14th post, quote, you are not allowed to come to my
shows. I don't want you there. Don't come to my shows.
I like when people make those kind of big statements.
Like, first of all, your red jumpsuit apparatus.
Let me play a couple commercials and we'll continue this.

your red jumpsuit apparatus, right? So no one even really knows what you're doing.
Not trying to shit on you, Face Down was a solid jam, I don't know any other songs of yours,
but like it's easy to do this when you're red jumpsuit apparatus because my guess is your
audience is not going to care one way or the other politically and I'm going to guess that
they might lean, who knows, that your audience might lean liberal. I don't fucking know
what the audience makeup, the demographic makeup of red jumpsuit apparatus is and their fan base is,
but I feel pretty confident in saying that for the most part nobody really gives a shit and it's
easy to do. If you were putting in 40,000 people at a show and you were worried about maybe losing people, that's one thing. But
also maybe that's not true because obviously guys like
Springsteen don't care. But I think the difference is like
Springsteen doesn't like Trump. Trump doesn't like
Springsteen. Green Day hates Trump. They hate MAGA. But for
the most part, I don't think in shows they tell people like,
hey, if you voted for this guy, never come to my show. Now, I could be wrong. Like, I don't think in shows they tell people like, hey, if you voted for this guy, never come to my show. Now,
I could be wrong. Like, I don't think that Springsteen gets
up there in between, you know, grunting, hungry heart and
born to run. I don't think he's like, he told you if you voted
for Trump, fuck you, say, oh. That did not sound anything
like Bruce Springsteen, by the way. But I don't think he does. But then you got guys that go up there, you know, like
Robert De Niro and just just fuck Trump. But a lot of times
they don't shit on the Trump people. Some do, some don't. I
just don't think there's any real risk in doing this if
you're red jumpsuit apparatus. Guess who's getting coverage in
the USA Today and other websites for the first time since like
2007. Red jumpsuit apparatus. So I don't think it's bad for Guess who's getting coverage in the USA Today and other websites for the first time since like 2007?
Red jumpsuit apparatus. So I don't think it's bad for business for them.
It's just a weird thing to say like, you're not allowed to come to my shows.
So like, do you check people at the door?
So like, do you guys have a scan and they're like, listen, I need to do a retina scan and I need to find out if you voted for Trump.
Did you, hey, did you vote for Trump? I did. You know what? You have to leave. Like would they force you out? Like that is a legit
thing. Like it's one thing to say like you get up on stage and say hey if you voted for Trump fuck
you but when you make a statement like you are not allowed to come to my shows, I don't want you there,
don't come to my shows, when you say you are not allowed to come to my shows then that means
someone's got to be checking this at the door because I know that you're trying to make a big bold proclamation
and appeal to the people and all the people are like, oh my God, these guys are so great
and a bunch of fucking liberals that didn't know you existed may now want to go dig into
the catalog of red jumpsuit apparatus.
I get all that, okay, but that is an empty statement if you do not hold people to that.
Like what if they bought a ticket and they try to get in like if a guy is wearing a maga hat that tries to come into the red jumpsuit apparatus show what would you do? Would you stop them and go
kindly leave? Well I want a refund like how would you like get the refund for that?
Like that's a that's a bit I want to send somebody to the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus show wearing a MAGA hat and I wanna see what happens. Like
if you show up, that's a bit. Show up, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
show wearing a MAGA hat, see what Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
does. That's what I wanna, that's what I'm dying to see.
Would, like we wanted to do a bit in Saint Louis. I guess right
around the time I got fired where it was when Green Day was
like, you know, doing all the stuff on Trump people and Green
Day was coming to town and I wanted to send my guy Scott to
the show wearing a MAGA hat and see what kind of reaction he
would get. He's like, no, I don't want to go get my ass
kicked. I'm like, do you think that the people at a Green Day show are going to have
the capability of kicking your ass like they're going to sit there and yell at you
and post videos of you and passively aggressively talk shit about you?
They're not going to actually fight you,
to which I told him, now, if you want to have an opportunity to be,
you know, in harm's way, then maybe put on like a I'm with her shirt
or some sort of Biden shirt and go to the Rock the Country
Tour with Kid Rock and Nickelback and Jason Aldean
and Leonard Skinner.
Those people may legitimately kick your ass.
They may shoot you.
Like they are more, I feel like they're about that action,
boss.
Like if they see something they don't like, I'd be like, if you said Josh, which side would you be
more afraid of actually doing something to you if they were upset? It would be the Jason
Aldean Kid Rock crowd versus the Green Day crowd. If you're fans of any band who play
their guitars below their crotch, those fans are probably
not going to fight you. They're just going to say things like
they're going to be sassy towards you and they're going
to say how could you support that and you're a horrible
person and I'm taking a photo and I'm uncomfortable. They
would go to like security and say that they're uncomfortable.
That's kind of a go-to move of these people is they would walk
up to you and then they'd be offended by your hat and they would go to security and they would say I'm uncomfortable. That's kind of a go-to move of these people is they would walk up to you and then they'd be offended by your
hat and they would go to security and they would say I'm
uncomfortable. I'm uncomfortable with this. He's
making me very uncomfortable and that's what you would get
from those people at like a Green Day show if you wore a
MAGA hat. If you went to the Kid Rock show and wore like a
pro Kamala shirt, there's a chance you end up paralyzed.
That's not to say those are horrible people, but they're about that action.
Most liberals will like go stand in the middle of the road and like,
we're fighting the power, and then they'll get run the fuck over by those people,
and then they'll say, well, why did you run us over?
Because you were in the fucking road.
And that's the kind of shit you're going to get there.
Winter's comments come as several celebrities have criticized Trump's
administration amid sweeping deportation efforts targeting undocumented
immigrants living in the US. Quote, don't come to my
shows because you're going to hear a lot of propaganda and you're going to
hear like the actual words of Jesus. Well, boy, I can't wait
to hear like the actual words of Jesus. Well, boy, I can't wait to hear like the actual words of Jesus at the Red Jumpsuit
Apparatus show. Quote, you're going to see a lot of acceptance
from all areas of life and races, and you're going to see
a lot of harmony, okay? That's not what you're about, okay?
Don't come. Refunds are available forever. Don't come.
Like, we'll do Red Jumpsuit, okay, that is, yeah, he looks like a guy that would.
So, guys, if you're into harmony, okay. If that's what you're about, you're obviously not if you vote for Trump, okay.
So don't come to the show, okay.
Winter doubled down on his politically charged stance in a follow-up Instagram post on June 18th. The post included a quote
from fellow rock singer Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Boy, we
got the guy from Red Jumpsuit Apparatus saying, Hey, I'm going
to harken the image of Kurt Cobain here. Let's see if any of
you in any way hate homosexuals, people of different color or
women, please do one of one favor for us. Don't come to our
shows and don't buy our records. The thing is, here's the thing,
like it's such an easy thing to say this kind of shit because
it's straw man. I guarantee you the vast majority of people
don't care. And I just also like how we've picked groups that
we're going to protect, right? Homosexuals, people of a
different color, or women. Okay, well what about men? Well, I
don't know. Voting for Trump doesn't make you a bad person,
Winter wrote. Who are you to judge when you directly go
against moral framework that you follow listed in the Bible? I
say this with love and as a Christian, stop attempting to
ostracize those you disagree with but like
Not to state the obvious
But you are in fact ostracizing a group of people that you disagree with
You see what I'm saying here red jumpsuit apparatus gentlemen
Like that's kind of what they do, though. That's their thing. They've got this ability to
point to people who they disagree with and say those
people are bad and then say things like, you know, stop
attempting to ostracize those that disagree with you. Like,
they have no idea how delusional they are. And that's
not to say Trump people aren't,
I'm talking about all politics here in general,
but for the sake of this story,
it's the red jumpsuit apparatus guy,
to basically say, stop trying to ostracize people
who disagree with you and then say,
if you disagree with me, don't come to my shows,
like, and that you're terrible. Like, terrible like you're like that's the thing about
celebrity people and a lot of these people that are like wacky liberal people is like
they're fucking clueless like they are just delusional fucking people and it's kind of
amusing but then it's kind of sad at the same time to watch these people like not realize how insane they actually are.
We are stronger together than separate. Let music bring people together and set aside differences.
Wishing you the best. Then how can you let music bring people together if you literally just
fucking said that you can't come to my show if you voted for someone that I didn't vote for?
What like how are these people? How I don't I do not believe that
rational people should have to share oxygen with people like red jumpsuit
apparatus guy. Like what the fuck are you talking about? We are stronger together
than separate so with that in mind I want to separate my shows from those who
disagree with me politically wishing you guys the best, be blessed, love Red Jumpsuit Apparatus guy. What the fuck are you talking about? Like what are we doing?
Hey guys, we're stronger together than separate, but I want to separate the crew here from
people who agree with me politically to those who don't. If you don't agree with me, we
will separate from you and you can go off on your own. Basically, if you agree with
everything I agree with, we can join together and be fine. If you don't agree with me, we will separate from you and you can go off on your own. Basically, if you agree with everything I agree with, we can join together and be fine. If you don't agree
with everything I say, then fuck you, don't come to my show,
but it'd be a lot better if we let the music bring people
together and set aside their differences. Yes, let's let the
music bring people together and set aside their differences.
Except you, MAGA guy, except you, right wing guy, except you you fake Christian guy. You can't come to the show.
You can't come but but but Red Jumpsuit apparatus guy. I was
really hoping that the music would bring us all together and
we could set aside our differences. Yeah, but
unfortunately, Steve, you that doesn't apply to you. You're a
piece of **** Sorry. These people are **** insane, man.
