The Josh Innes Show - Shannon Sharpe's Brilliant Move And Credit To Another Local Podcaster
Episode Date: September 12, 2024Hi Friends! I want to start today's podcast by giving credit to Landry Locker. He's formerly of Sports Radio 610. I saw some of his Youtube stream last night and I think it looks good and he's got a s...trong following. I elaborate more in this pod. In regards to Shannon Sharpe, this dude put up huge numbers on Youtube as he discussed his getting busy on IG Live. I still refuse to believe it was an accident. Sharpe cashing in on this reminds me of the times I really missed out on building a real brand/podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What's happening, Jamokes? Josh, how are you? What's going on? Glad you're with us.
A lot of people have been downloading the pod. I appreciate that. Make sure you tell your friends
to download the pod and let them be part of Just Nation. I would really appreciate that.
We're trying to build this thing, and I get it. Some of you are like, hey, asshole,
you tried to build it for three years, you disappeared for two, then you get whacked,
and then you come back and you need us. Yeah,
it's essentially what it comes down to. But you know what's interesting about this kind of platform, whether it be podcasts, YouTube, which I'm going to figure out here soon, it's just a
matter of you have to understand where I'm coming from. Any day a call could come and say you got
somebody that wants to hire you and I'm going to be the hell out of here. So like, I'm not overly interested in investing or setting up a nice studio setup for a YouTube channel just
yet. So I got to figure that out. And by the way, I'm going to give somebody who I don't particularly
like and really doesn't like me, but I'm going to give him credit because I was on YouTube last
night. My wife was on the phone.
It was like 11 o'clock at night. One of her friends called and they were talking
and I was just laying around scrolling through YouTube and I saw that Landry Locker was live
on his YouTube channel. It just gave me these as one of a recommended thing. And I said, all right,
fine. I'll go check it out. And Landry fucking hates me, and I don't like him particularly either.
But this is one of the very few instances where I feel that somebody who dislikes me was the initiator of the disliking.
I never did anything to the guy, but he just, for whatever reason, one day just started fucking hating my guts out of the blue.
And then I just fucking blocked the motherfucker.
And I'm like, I'm not going to deal with this.
I don't need to take your fucking insults to me
for no reason.
I thought we were kind of buddies.
You would ask me questions.
I would ask you, I would talk about radio with you.
This one, I was at 97.5 doing the free thing I was doing
and they just started talking all sorts of shit about me
in the DMs and shit and I'm like, bro,
I don't need this shit from you
and that's basically how that went down.
Now he might remember it differently, but that's how I recall it going down again.
It is what it is.
He doesn't like me very much.
And in turn, I didn't like him very much because of that, but that's it.
So anyway, I'm going through YouTube yesterday and I see that he's live and I'm like, I'll
check it out and see what kind of audience he has, because I'm curious. Those are the kind of people that I would want watching a YouTube stream.
I would be doing people who are Houston people, people who are football people, people who
are Texans people.
So that's fine.
It's all good.
So I'm looking at that.
And at the time, he's got like 250 people watching.
I think he's got a solid setup.
His lighting looks good. The quality of the video
looks good. He's incorporating press conference videos. He's chatting with people. They're super
chatting, which from what I gather watching my buddy Matt Moscona's post-game show, Super Chat,
is where people pay to have their comments read first in the chat and all that. So it looked good.
It sounded good.
He's got over 10,000 subscribers on YouTube.
So look, game recognize game.
His game better than mine, certainly, on YouTube right now.
That's something that I got to figure out.
But I want to give the guy credit.
Not that it matters.
Not that he needs my credit.
Not that I need his credit.
But when I see somebody doing a good job, I tend to reach out
and tell them, Hey, I think you're doing a pretty good job. And I do that with a lot of people.
Some people respond and say, Hey, thanks. And we become buddies. Some people never respond. And
that's a way of them telling me to go fuck myself. So I'm totally cool with that, but I'm going to
give him credit on that. It's not quite what I would want to be doing. His is a little bit more
X's and O break down the games type of thing. And that's kind of what he would want to be doing his is a little bit more x's and o uh break down the
games type of thing and that's kind of what he's into and that's fine like look I'm not break down
the game x's and o's guy I've never been break down the game x's and o's guy I can do that it
is in my skill set it just isn't what interests me so I like to talk about Shannon Sharp banging
on Instagram and gambling you know these are the things that interest me more than full-on press conference audio breakdown shit.
But I want to give him a lot of credit because whether he got whacked at 610 or just left on his own or whatever,
I don't know the whole story.
I don't pry into that business, so I have no clue.
All I know is that having 10,000 plus subscribers on YouTube is a pretty
strong start. And when you got 250, 300 people watching at 11 o'clock at night while you break
down a game, and I would imagine that's even more if it's a post-game thing or whatever,
that's something that is gaining traction and deserves some recognition and some credit.
So I give him a ton of credit for what his YouTube
is doing. I don't know if he actually podcasts it or not as well, but good for him, man. Like,
look, I'm at a point in my life where I don't feel like sitting around talking shit about people all
the time. Now, if I feel that it is warranted, I will talk shit about them. But like, I've hit a
point where I'm kind of like, I'm 38. I've, you know, I've been up and
down the dial. I've worked in a bunch of different cities. Sometimes I've been fired and I can say,
Hey, that was more my fault as to why it happened. Other times I've gotten fired slash let go. And I
go, I don't know what the fuck I did wrong. So like that happens and you kind of grow and you
try to figure shit out and you realize that you don't want to sit around at 38, 40, 45, 50 and just fucking fight with everybody all the time.
Now, if it's warranted, it's warranted. There are some people who I don't forgive for shit.
You know, this is kind of how I am. I hold grudges. I'm a grudge holder, but I'm trying
to hold fewer grudges and be less of a bitter, angry person all the time.
Although when I'm bitter and angry, I think it brings out the best in me and potting or on the
radio or whatever. But we're in a weird world now where everybody's kind of playing grab ass and
everybody's best friends with everybody. And every time you get on the air, you hear all this,
like this sounds ridiculous to say, but there's too much goddamn positivity. Sometimes you got
to be negative. Sometimes you got to be, sometimes you got to be you know talking shit about people you know back in my
day you'd watch the vmas and then the next day on the radio everybody would be shitting on everybody
at the vmas watching the vmas last night now everything was fucking powerful you can't tell
me that katie perry who's clearly ozempic out of her mind her tits have shrunk she and taylor swift switch tits it
was like a body switch movie you know how i feel about body switch movies you know like father
like son or freaky friday i love body switch movies they are my favorite well check out the
tits on those two people they made a tit switch movie taylor swift's tits are falling out of her dress and katie Katy Perry's tits are falling down to her belly button and she's trying to walk around like she's all hot shit and made good music in 10 years. But back in the day, you'd have people busting balls and making fun of shit. Now I turn on the radio and everybody's telling you how fabulous everybody's performances were. There's no way everybody's performances were fabulous. Stop sucking farts out of people's assholes all the time.
Anyway, that said, good job, Landry Locker.
You don't like me.
In turn, I don't like you very much.
But I give you credit where I think it is due.
And I think your setup looks good. I think your audience is engaged and you're doing a good fucking job.
So tip of the cap to you, bro.
Other stuff.
Shannon Sharp didn't get fired from his
job for banging on Instagram live. I didn't think he would. Somebody floated that out there on
social media today that he was getting fired and everybody's like, oh my God, we can't let
get fired. They weren't going to fire the dude. But I stand by what I said yesterday,
that the guy knew exactly what he was doing because it is virtually impossible to go live
on Instagram without knowing you are live on Instagram. When I say it's nearly impossible, it's like a three-step
process to get on Instagram live. You have to open the app. You have to hit the plus button
in the middle of the phone. You have to scroll over and hit live. Then you have to hit the button
to go live. That is like four steps
to get live. So he's not, he's full of shit. And what did I tell you yesterday? That when he would
go live with this and when he went live and announced all this stuff, it was going to be
gigantic numbers wise. Like it was going to be huge. And sure enough, from what I'm reading,
and I didn't watch any of it as it was happening live, I only heard it after the fact, so I didn't see what the live total was in real time.
But from what I'm reading, I'm seeing anything from like 110,000 people watching at once youtube has like 150 000 people watching to hear him explain
that he accidentally went live on instagram and went to pound town and was grunting with some lady
calling him poppy michelle calling him poppy oh poppy oh poppy and he's over here
sounds like he dicked her down pretty good, though.
But again, we talked about it yesterday.
It was a matter of what incentive would he have to do this?
Well, it's a publicity thing.
I wonder how many new subscribers he's got on his channel.
When I looked at it last night, it was 1.43 million.
Let's see if that number has gone up at all.
Because this is the name of the game now,
right? Like one day when cable decides to fire everybody and ESPN ain't doing anything and TV
is dead, you've got to have your place, your sandbox, right? We always talk about it. Build
your own sandbox, build your own sandbox, and you need to have a place to go back to. That's why
Stephen A. Smith, who's the biggest star they have on ESPN, has his own outlet.
That's why Shannon Sharp, who was the biggest star arguably on Fox FS1, that's why he's got his own thing.
So it was 1.43 when I looked last night.
Let's see if he's picked up any new subscribers here.
Shannon Sharp, Nightcap.
Let's see where Nightcap, where his channel is.
Shannon Sharp, Nightcap. Let's see where Nightcap, where his channel is. Shannon Sharp, Nightcap. Let's see.
Shannon Sharp, Nightcap. And let's see how many followers he's got. Nightcap. Now it's up to 1.44, so he didn't gain a ton of new followers, but he gained some. Point being in all of this is
that video as of right now that's titled Shannon Sharpe's viral moment.
Unk and Ocho react to Shannon Sharpe's viral moment on Instagram Live.
That was live 20 hours ago.
It has 1.5 million views.
These shows on Fox Sports 1 get like 600,000 viewers.
This has 1.5 million views.
And at one time, it had well over 100,000 people watching live.
So again, and then they teased it in their content
to get people to watch it on social,
like, unk, unk addresses the situation.
So you're not going to convince me that this wasn't staged.
Now, I don't give a shit that it was staged.
Do what you got to do.
Like, as I always say, I wish I were smart enough a lot of the time to do things that
got me the most attention.
The problem is, the shit that got me the most attention all happened organically and accidentally.
Radio Row, Frank Caliendo, Fight at the Eagles practice.
None of that was planned.
If I were smart enough to plan those things, I'd be rich and I'd be brilliant and I wouldn't be sitting here naked in my bed right now podcasting for everybody.
If I were that smart.
The problem is I'm not that fucking smart.
I gump my way into some significant moments.
If I were smart in this way like to me this motherfucker is brilliant
this is a brilliant move right here you never see him so you never have to deal with the embarrassment
of the chick being naked you being naked it's not like the the deal with the kardashians where like
she's getting plowed and ray jay's got like a horse cock and like everything's all over the
internet you can feign being embarrassed
by it but your mom floats it out there so you can all become rich and famous you never see him you
only hear it it's left up to the imagination strong man that is strong shit right there so
then you go to your that night you're live on your facebook or in this case, your YouTube telling the story. So tip of the cap to you,
Unc, brilliant move on your part, smart shit, way to go. And look again, maybe one day people
will care enough. You know, one of my great regrets is when I got fired in Philadelphia,
Philly is a place that just gives a shit about drama more than most places right sports drama
media drama most of that shit doesn't fly like what i learned down in houston is a lot of people
don't give a shit about media drama i tried to make media drama thing most people down in houston
don't give two fucks about media drama that's just how they are they do not give a shit up in Philly, like it's still sort of 1996 Howard Stern, man, cow, de Bella. Like they still
react to that shit in a major way. So when I got fired people, like I was the biggest story in
town. I'm like, you know, it's all over the blogs. It's all over the papers. It's all over the news
and my great regret. And I just didn't have the foresight at
the time, right? I didn't like, it's like just to lay it all out there. Like everywhere else I've
been fired, I've had six months of severance. After it was all said and done, I had two weeks
of severance. So I could have said and done essentially whatever the fuck I wanted at WIP.
When I got fired there, I had two weeks. So I got paid basically one more check and then I was
on my ass, donezo, see you later. So I could have gone out and said all the bad shit in the world
I wanted to. And I did, but I didn't capitalize on it the way I should have capitalized on it.
The way I should have capitalized on it was I should have started a podcast then and there.
And the second I would have started it,
it would have been a story on Crossing Broad
and everywhere else,
every other blog that was using me for clicks.
I could have said, all right, I'm starting a podcast
and I'm going to tell all about WIP.
First podcast is going to drop Friday,
August 30th or whatever.
And then I would go.
And it would have been huge.
I would have gained a bunch of followers,
and maybe those followers would have stayed with me forever.
What I did instead is I just started going live on Facebook.
And for a good stretch of those live from Josh's couches
where I put in a home phone so people could call me,
and I just sat on my phone and talked to people
and talked shit on Facebook,
and those videos would get 10, 12, 15,000 views,
20,000 views. But then eventually as I do with everything, I get bored with it and just started
doing dumb shit on there. And then nobody gave a fuck anymore. And then it was out of sight,
out of mind and done. What I should have done when I was at my hottest in terms of that sort
of attention is that moment should have just said, all right, go to Apple Podcasts, go to Megaphone, wherever you go at that point in 2016 to start a podcast and go, boom, I'm
starting the Josh Ennis Show podcast.
Tell all about WIP.
Subscribe right now.
First episode drops, bang.
YouTube and everything.
But I didn't have that foresight.
That didn't enter my mind.
I didn't give a shit about podcasting at all.
And that could have, I think, been the start if I would have jumped in there and just fully
committed to it. Still could have had radio jobs because again, my next radio job was in Houston
and I made a lot of money at that job. So I still could have done a radio show and still had a
podcast. And that podcast in theory could have been gigantic if I would have stuck with it.
But here I sit eight years later, almost a little over eight years later. And I'm like,
I didn't do it. And that's a regret that I have because it really could have gained a lot of followers and traction. And I could have put a little effort into it, but for whatever reason,
I just didn't have that vision. Like when I was at seven 90 in Houston, I paid no attention to
our show podcast, right?
Like we podcast different episodes.
Every day we go on the air.
I forgot if we podcast them hourly or if it was one four-hour pod and then we would break it down into segments.
I don't remember.
All I know is that in 2017 when the Astros were making their run for the World Series, that podcast, the first time I ever looked at the numbers on it, I was just kind of curious, like, Hey, what does our podcast do? And downloads during that year were
like a million and a half downloads or something. Like it was a pretty huge number for a dinky radio
show in Houston. Like, you know, Michael Berry gets millions of downloads and probably Rod Ryan
gets millions of downloads, but like that show was getting a million and a half downloads over the
course of a year and I'm like holy shit how like I did never and that was kind of the first time
that was in 2017 that I really started kind of paying more attention to how big certain things
could be in that world because I was always just kind of narrow-minded radio guy video wasn't that
important to me and it really wasn't important to
the station either. We had little dinky cameras in the studio. From what I understand now, I think
790's afternoon show is on TV. That was something I fought for for a long time to get better cameras
and everything, but nobody was interested. But I look back on that now and I'm like, Josh,
you should have done that. And then even when I launched it after I got fired in 2019, there was a good number from Philly and Houston that would listen to the pod. But part of my issue is I get bored with things
so easy that I trail off and don't put the effort into it. At times, I don't have that same type of
drive as someone like my buddy PK does. And I know this, that if I ever teamed up with him with his
video knowledge and ability to market shit, I think it'd be a huge podcast. And that's still something that I have
my eyes on. I'm trying to get back to Texas. I'm trying to find a job in Texas, anywhere that's
drivable to Houston or Houston and make it happen. But either way, back to Shannon Sharp. I think the
guy did it on purpose. And I think it's a brilliant move on his part. It's going to help him explode even more.
At the end of the day, they don't see you banging anybody.
It's just audio, so it's kind of embarrassing.
But if it were going to be a real accident, I feel like we would have seen something or
heard more, seen more in that video.
I think he's full of shit.
But credit to him because he's been able to take that and parlay it into 150,000 people
watching at once that the VMAs are on baseball games are on sports are on on Wednesday and
there's a shit ton of eyeballs on a dude on his YouTube channel talking about his sex tape quote
unquote a sex tape on IG live so I give the guy a shit ton of credit and to go back to the beginning
of this pod I give credit to Landry Locker for his YouTube. Again, much different than Shannon
Sharp talking about banging it out with somebody that was on tape, but I give Landry credit for
that. So there, there you go. All right. I'm going to get out. I'm going to put this one up. I'm
going to post this. I also have to do the prop to your drop picks. Most of the games are up.
There's a couple of games that don't have the prop bets on FanDuel, but I'm going to do the prop to your drop picks. Most of the games are up. There's a couple of games that
don't have the prop bets on FanDuel, but I'm going to do prop to your drop as well. All right,
so check that one out. That's going to drop here in a few as well.
