The Josh Innes Show - Shedeur Is Still On The Board
Episode Date: April 25, 2025First off, I go off on a strange tangent about football recruiting websites. Next, we talk about Shedeur. Why wasn't he drafted? I don't know the dude, but I do see things that make me question if... he's truly doing this for himself or for his dad. Cam Ward was the #1 pick and he's barely talked about. You want to know why Shadur Sanders is such a divisive figure is because people are either
sick of hearing him or they're obsessed with him. Like that's the two things, right? Like
last night there was a draft. The number one pick in the draft was Cam Ward, a guy who had a very
nice run at Miami, a guy who was a zero starstar recruit, famously a zero-star recruit coming out of high school,
which, by the way, shows just how much bullshit these recruiting sites are.
Like, when I was in Baton Rouge growing up, everybody would talk about, like, rivals or
scout, or there was a guy named Dandy Don, and I don't know if Dandy Don still has a website,
or if Dandy Don is still alive, or if Dandy Don died and his son Dandy Don
Jr. took over. I don't know. But he was kind of like one of the OG Baton Rouge LSU high school
recruiting guys. Dandy Don. Now I got to see if Dandy Don is still around. Nothing against Dandy
Don. I just find high school recruiting talk and talking about high school kids to be stupid.
And it makes me feel like a dipshit talking about high school kids.
Dandy Don LSU.
Is this still a thing?
Dandy Don's LSU sporting news. Dishing out a daily dose of Tiger.
Are you Dandy Don?
Okay.
Okay.
Here we go.
So there's someone else that runs this.
So actual Dandy Don died Okay, okay, here we go. So there's someone else that runs this. So actual Dandy Don died like 10, ah, shit.
Dandy Don Long died in 2012.
So actual Dandy Don has been dead a while.
But the guy running this site, whoever it is, some guy with a beard,
are you Dandy Don Jr.? Are you little Dandy Don?
Who are you? I need details.
So now I'm guessing they put up actual other information too, but at one point it was just
big for recruiting. That's what I remember about Dandy Don is it was a big LSU recruiting site,
if I recall correctly. Dandy Don, Dandy Don. Credit to the guy. He just created this world
that became a viable world and people would
spend money to get dandy oh actually you know what it was it was recruiting but it was also
lsu practice reports so lsu practice reports were a huge deal you know because lsu now here's what's
funny about this lsu would only allow the media to watch individual drills and practice and then
they would take them out.
So these poor bastards would have to come up with these hour-long shows about what they saw at practice.
And look, I commend guys who can do it.
Like my buddy Matt, who is a very good radio guy, a very smart radio guy.
He is a lot more mature of a human than I am when it comes to doing radio.
Me, I would just get on radio and make fun of the idea of watching dudes playing catch
as if that's some sort of great information.
Matt would be able to go out
and build a whole show around this shit,
and I commend him for that.
It's just something that didn't interest me.
So I'd go out to practice, you know, it'd be August,
like fall practice, getting ready for baseball,
or football, and you'd go out to the LSU football facility,
it'd be early in the morning and you'd have that South Louisiana, like 90% humidity at seven in
the morning. It'd feel moist and wet, you know, and you'd get out there and you'd watch practice.
Remember one time I had a cell phone out and they're like, sir, you cannot have a cell phone
at LSU practice. Like why? Who the fuck cares? Like, I'm sorry. I'm calling.
Look, I've got Urban Meyer on the phone,
and I'm telling him that you guys are playing catch.
He's really excited about this.
He thinks he's got an edge this week because I pulled out my cell phone,
and I called Urban Meyer to let him know that, hey, listen,
they've dropped two passes in practice so far.
And it wasn't even practice shit like, you know, seven on seven literally quarterbacks take a snap throw it to one receiver that type of shit dudes
like running through tires and shit like that you know and but people ate that shit up because as
you know LSU football is like a religion to people far more then than it was or is now like back now
you can get all the information everywhere.
But back in, you know, even the mid-2000s,
you didn't get it everywhere.
There was Scout, there was Rivals, you know, that type of shit.
And people had radio shows and websites and shit.
But now you can get anything anywhere,
and now every slapdick is a media guy.
It wasn't that case.
It really wasn't the case, you know, 15, 20 years ago that every slapdick guy was a media person.
Now, literally, you're like, hey, I have a blog called suck that tiger dick bitch and i need media credentials
and they'll be like here suck that tiger dick bitch here's your media credentials that's not
the case anymore or it is the case now back then it was not the case now so who runs dandy don who
is dandy don now i'm gonna have to ask Matt who actual Dandy Don is. Who is this guy
with the goatee? Who are you Dandy Don guy? Or was there ever actually a Dandy Don? Or was he like a
character? Like when you see somebody on like Uncle Ben, was Uncle Ben a real person or was
he created to sell rice or Aunt Jemima? Like that type of deal? Was Dandy Don ever a thing or is he just kind of a figure of someone's imagination
that was used to sell Dandy Don's football website?
I don't know.
Why did I start talking about this?
Let me play a commercial and regroup.
All right, if you're ready to win some real cash during the basketball playoffs,
you got to check out Pick 6 from DraftKings.
When it comes to basketball payouts, DraftKings Pick 6 posterizes the competition, including
prize picks.
It's a very simple concept.
Hit all your picks and score higher minimum payouts on Pick 6, plus even more cash if
you outscore the competition.
Pick 6 is available in most states, including Missouri, California, Texas, Georgia, and more.
And I absolutely love it.
Look, every night we're going to be having playoff basketball.
Every night.
So when you're sitting around and you might not have interest in a particular game,
let's say you're a fan of a particular team, they're not playing that night,
here's how you make it a little bit more fun for the other games.
Build a little lineup there with pick six. It's really great. Me and my wife do it all the
time. So make sure you do it. And new players get 50 in pick six credits instantly on just a $5
entry. Download the DraftKings pick six app now and use code Ennis, that's my name, I-N-N-E-S, for new customers
to play. $5, get 50 in Pick 6 credits, better payouts, bigger wins, only with Pick 6 from

pick six dot draft kings dot com slash promos i still cannot remember for the life of me how i
went down a dandy don wormhole it had to do something about the draft right because we're
talking about the draft we're talking about high school dudes oh Oh, pieced it all together. Way to go, Josh.
Cam Ward.
So Cam Ward was a zero-star recruit.
So Cam Ward, like, oh my God, this guy got a zero-star on rivals
and then whatever, and people are obsessed with this kind of shit and whatever.
So he's the number one overall pick.
You would think that Cam Ward would be the most impressive story ever.
It would fit all the boxes, right?
You know, black quarterback, zero- recruit, number one overall pick, all this shit. You'd
think he'd be the prime story, but he's not. The number one story is still that Shadur Sanders
hasn't been drafted. And that's the reason why you talk about a guy being a polarizing figure.
People really become polarizing figures
when the media starts to obsess of them one way or the other. Like Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow became a
polarizing figure not only because he was good and being good I think plays a part in being
polarizing because usually shitty players are not super polarizing guys right but he's a good player
super religious would pray so there'd be people
that are like why you let him pray out in the thing and blah blah and people would kiss Tim
Tebow's ass so they'd hate Tim Tebow and then Tim Tebow went pro and it became even more divisive
and even more of a fight between people right that's the kind of shit you get and um and but
the media was a large part of that because the media finds what people start talking about,
and then they accentuate it and hammer on it.
And then before you know it, it's all people are talking about.
So all people are talking about in this draft is not the Cam Ward zero-star recruit,
number one draft pick to the Tennessee Titans.
I will say this.
Part of that could be because we've kind of known he's going to be the number one pick for the last five months.
So that's kind of part of it. Like, where's the story there? But the media has chosen that the
number one story in this is Shadur Sanders, and they're going to keep hammering that. If you're
watching draft coverage last night, they should have just had a Shadur tracker on the bottom of
the screen. Like when you're watching politics, you're watching like the election and like,
they should have had a guy at the big board doing the draft shit to try to figure out where, uh, should our Sanders is going
to go. But to the point about why people talk about him being a divisive person or a, he himself
is not divisive, but why should our Sanders is such a, a figure polarizing is the word I'm looking
for. A polarizing figure is because the guy is everywhere. And when someone
is everywhere, you're going to have people who love you and people who are just fucking sick
of seeing you, particularly when you're someone that no one knows is going to be any good or not,
like most of these guys are. But Shadur is a guy that a lot of people have questions about.
And you have people going back and forth on him. And it's constant. At some point,
you're like, I'm sick of hearing about this fucking dude.
And his dad plays a huge role in that.
Like last night I was watching after he didn't get drafted and he had to like, they filmed
him addressing his draft party.
Like literally it was like politics.
It was like an election.
Like, listen guys, uh, they haven't come up with the vote tonight.
We haven't gotten the tabulation tonight, but we're still big believers.
We think we're going to get this done.
I love you guys.
Enjoy some cake.
We're going to do this again tomorrow.
We're going to run it back.
But here's one of the things I think when I look at Shadur, and maybe this is fair and
maybe this isn't fair, and maybe I'm a dick and maybe I'm not a dick.
When I see Shadur, and I thought this when I watched the reality show, the Coach Prime
show, and again, I'm not a Dion hater as I've told you before there are a lot of times I like Dion and I kind
of fall for what I think is his bullshit like I think he's full of shit it would be impossible
to not be full of shit with all the shit Dion Sanders says and the hypocrisies he throws out
and all like I think Dion Sanders is stone cold full of shit, but I'll be watching it
sometimes and I'll find myself falling for it. Just like every now and then, like I'm not a
church guy, but I would go to church on occasion in college because the chick I was dating was a
church person and we would go to church and I'd find myself for brief moments. Like we'd go to
like the nighttime mass on a Sunday after a weekend of
debauchery you roll into the Catholic Church on the campus of LSU wearing flip-flops and gym shorts
and like you're just like all the bad shit I did this weekend and you're sitting there and like
there'll be a homily from the priest and you're kind of like I'm moved by this for a moment you're
like I I kind of you make me want to be a better man, that type of deal.
And I'm like, wow.
And I come out of that feeling kind of good.
And then like five minutes later, I'm like, okay, I don't give a shit.
That's kind of how I feel when I see Dion.
And it kind of makes sense because Dion is basically a preacher.
He kind of wraps himself around the God thing and then tells you a story and tells you how
you need to be better in your own life.
I don't think Dion's a bad person.
I don't think he's a shitty dude or anything like that. I think he's full of shit.
He's full of shit in the same way that priests and mega church guys and all these people are
full of shit. I think that they are rooted in some form of altruism. Like I think like their
intentions aren't bad necessarily, but I think they're mega full of shit I think Dion is full of shit but
when someone's full of shit you're able to fall for their shit even for just a few minutes like
you'll find yourself in a trance by some of the shit they do so I'll watch Dion's reality show
Coach Prime which is an interesting show uh what they had the one season at Jackson State that they
did and then the two they did at Colorado and I'll watch this and he'll start going into something and some sort of like oh you got to cut the bull junk and all
this and you got to do your job and I'll be like yeah I'm kind of just locked in and mesmerized
and then you kind of have to shake out the cobwebs and go yeah I think this guy's full of shit
but I think that's part of it like like the whole story about Shadur and why Shadur is a story and
why like the number one
overall pick, young black dude, zero star recruit isn't getting any run is because one guy is a
polarizing figure whose dad is a super polarizing figure. And his dad has done a very good job of
turning his son into a polarizing figure in an attempt to make gain on that. That's reality.
Every time Dion says, you're only doing
this because he's my son. Yes. The only reason he's a story is because he's your son. And the
only reason you're talking about him is because he's your son. And the only reason why it's
controversial is because you keep making it controversial that he's your son. So you want
that to be the story. You're obsessed with that being the story. You need that to be the story. Real talk, if he's
not your son and Shadur is the quarterback at Jackson State, then Colorado, how many people
even give a shit about him? They don't. So the idea that you try to spin it as, well, you're
only saying this negative shit because he's my son. I would argue the only reason they are saying
the super positive shit they're saying is also because he is your son. The only reason why
he's this big story and he's on reality. The only reason why he has reality shows is because he's
your son. I'm not knocking him. He might want to be the greatest fucking quarterback ever,
but that kind of goes to my point. So every time Dion says you're only ripping him because he's my
son and you hate me and whatever, the only reason he's reality star and the only reason why he's got these endorsement deals
and the only reason why people are talking about him incessantly
is because he's your son.
So it goes both ways.
That's one.
Two, I watched this kind of,
not concession speech that he did last night,
but he had this wacky setup
where he had this whole box set up.
It was a really wacky thing he was sitting in
for when he gets picked.
And it's got like legendary
and all this shit written all over the wall.
Like that's what dudes do now.
Whatever, I don't give a shit.
And he's kind of giving this concession speech
and not a concession speech,
but kind of a letdown like,
oh shucks, we didn't get drafted.
When I listened to him talk,
now granted I'm not in a huddle with the guy.
I don't play with the guy.
So I can't speak to that.
And all of his guys say he's a good leader.
I'll take their word for it.
I don't, I'm not there.
But when I watch this guy just speak, and I don't know if he's shy, I don't know what it is.
All these stories I hear about him being super cocky in meetings, like all we see when we see him publicly on these TV shows and shit is like he almost feels like he's doing something that he's good at, but expensive fucking watches and do all this shit. Like,
I wonder how much of what he's doing is because of who his dad is and almost like a pressure to do
this. Maybe it's not, you know, again, maybe like I, my dad never pressured me into doing anything
to be very clear. Like my dad never pressured me to be a radio guy or whatever. I don't think my
dad cared. He was in his own fucking world. He he didn't care but I wanted to do it I think
partially because I was around it all the time and because it was something I think my dad would go
yeah that's fucking cool reason I took the job in St. Louis is I thought oh my dad would say that's
fucking cool and he did say it's fucking cool but he also said it was a mistake and he was right
so I've never done like, like I've never
done things because I thought, Oh, this will like my dad, like I want my, like, I feel like I have
to do it because my dad wants me to do it. My dad was never a pressure type of guy like that. Right.
My dad never cared to do that. He would say, if you want to fucking do it, do it. If not, don't
like I, unless I mean, that was it it like none of that ever happened I wonder how much
of Shadur and what his whole image is is because he feels this sort of pressure because of who his
dad is you know what I'm saying now the opposite of that I mean look if the worst case scenario is
he becomes a second round draft pick in the NFL and stays out of trouble the alternative is you
could be Michael Jordan's fucking kid or something that ends up doing drugs and getting DUIs and shit. So like there's nothing
wrong with who he is. Like I don't think he's a bad dude. In fact, when I watch him on reality
shows, like a lot of times when he's being interviewed or something, he'll kind of look
down at the ground and he's very shy and very reserved. And I don't know if that's just because
he doesn't want to be in front of the camera or whatever or if it's because it's just not really his thing like he's not programmed to
want to be prime time Deion Sanders but Deion whether on purpose or not puts this kind of
pressure on his kid to be prime time like at times it almost feels like Deion lives vicariously through his kids,
but particularly that kid.
One of his kids is in bankruptcy jail or some shit,
bankruptcy court over an expensive car.
His other kid ain't going to do shit in the draft.
His other kid is their media guy at Colorado.
The two guys he's kind of
living vicariously through right now are his son and Travis Hunter who he kind of spins off as his
son so I don't know and again none of this to say these are bad guys like I truly don't believe
Deion Sanders is a bad guy a bad guy is someone rape, murder, does a lot of seedy behind the back shit to try to get ahead in life.
I don't think that's Deion.
I think he's a good person.
I don't think he's evil inherently or anything like that.
And I don't think his kid is a bad person.
But in a way, I think they're sort of hucksters.
Now, by the way, Deion is an all-time great player um but I think there's a huckster quality about them they're kind of not snake oil salesmen
they're not selling elixirs out of the back of a flatbed truck or anything like that but they're
just kind of they're putting on a show and there are a lot of razzle dazzle and, you know, look this way and I'll do this over here.
But I question how much passion back to the thing yesterday about like how much these people care about being like, how much do you love football? wonder if Shadur Sanders loves football or if he just loves that his dad loves football and he
loves his dad and he feels like he has a responsibility to kind of carry on this legacy
and by the way I could be very wrong I'm not telling you that that's what this is I'm telling
you that if someone from a million miles away when I watched the reality show when I watched that
piece last night where he's standing there and and then like even at the end and I guess legendary is that like his saying or his slogan like he goes through this whole
diatribe about how it's okay and God put us here for a reason and blah blah blah blah blah and then
at the end he just goes like legendary like even that it felt like contrived and forced and like
like you're trying too hard to build a brand of something
instead of just doing you like i don't know what cam ward is about i don't know what endorsement
deals he has i don't know what his beliefs are anything i don't know if he's really i don't know
a fucking thing about cam ward but i know he's the number one pick in the draft i know he played at
miami i know he had zero stars.
That's it.
I couldn't tell you if he has endorsement deals.
I couldn't tell you what kind of watch he wears.
I couldn't tell you what kind of car he drives.
Could not tell you a fucking thing about Cam Ward.
And that guy is the number one pick in the draft.
A dude who may go second in the draft,
in the second round,
like there's belief he's currently the favorite
to go first in the second round
is Shadur Sanders, betting favorite.
That is a pick that the Browns have.
Boy, you want to talk about adding a real fucking circus.
You're already the Browns.
You're already a disaster of an organization.
You're already fucked with Deshaun Watson.
Now let's bring in Shadur Sanders.
And oh, by the way, Dion's going to be beaten on the door every chance he gets.
So don't think he won't.
But you look at Shadur, and I know everything about Shadur.
I know his endorsement deals.
I know all of his stats and everything.
Could not tell you a fucking thing about Cam Ward.
Nothing.
So that's how fascinating that is,
that Cam Ward just kind of quietly, subtly,
like he's drafted number one overall.
You don't even hear anything about it.
It's just, all right, where's Shadur going to go?
Is he going to go number two?
Giants going to take him?
What's going to happen number three?
Are the Giants going to take him?
Oh, shit, the Giants move back.
Oh, the Giants took Jackson Dart.
Well, that's racist.
Fuck them.
Like, that's all you heard last night.
Shadur, Shadur, Shadur, Shadur. That's credit to Dion, and that's credit to Shad that's all you heard last night shitter shitter shitter shitter
that's credit to dion and that's credit to shitter mostly credit to dion number one overall pick gets
very little run again i get that part of that is because we've kind of known he was going to be the
number one pick forever but we've also known that shitter is going to be in this draft forever
he's the story the media and everybody else has chosen Shadur is the story
over everybody else in that draft anyway more to come
