Why your BMI doesn't tell the whole story about your health. Oh, I don't know because the BMI is bullshit. BMI and obesity, the problem with how we talk about weight. Because the BMI is this fairy tale bullshit that doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:01:56 How many times do you go to the doctor and they show you your BMI and you're like, wait a minute. My BMI is, I don't know what my BMI is like 37 or something like. like that, like my BMI as high. But then I am technically morbidly obese. Starting point is 00:02:56 You're richer than you think. But you need to tell me that I'm the same level of obese as someone who's 600 pounds has to be lifted out of their house on TLC? That doesn't make any sense. Now, does it? That's a farce is what it is. The BMI is a lie. Let's see what this story says, though.
Starting point is 00:03:16 For decades, one number has played an outside role in determining whether your weight is considered healthy or not. Your body mass index. The calculation is simple. The resulting number places most adults into one of four categories, underweight, healthy weight, overweight, or obese. But bodies and overall health aren't usually so simple. Why is this just now a story? What are we doing here? Like, why is this just like, hey guys, did you know that some made up fairy tale fucking number is not the end all be all for your health?
Starting point is 00:03:47 No way, you don't say. While BMI can help identify potential health risks, it doesn't distinguish fat from muscle or show where fat is stored or account for differences in body composition and metabolism. As a result, two people with the same BMI can have very different health problems. No shit. How is this a story? I'm not a doctor, and I could tell you this. This is just common sense bullshit. It's a distinction that is fueled a broader shift in how we think and talk about obesity,
Starting point is 00:04:18 and is why obesity medicine specialists no longer only look at your BMI. But here's another issue, if we're being fair. People are so concerned about hurting people's feelings, they refuse to call fat people fat. That's a bigger issue. Like, we have to be willing to call fat people fat and unhealthy. Not just fat for bullying's sake to say, oh, you're a fatty, but you're unfucking healthy. That's the bigger problem because we're so worried about people's feelings so much of the time that we can't just say, hey, lose a few fucking pounds. Like one thing my dad used to do and still does, which to a degree I appreciate, like he'll just look at me and go, hey, Josh, you're looking kind of fat.
Starting point is 00:04:51 And he's like, I know I'm fat too. But you might want to drop a few pounds. Like sometimes you just need to look at people and say, hey, you might want to lose a few pounds and not worry about whether or not you're hurting somebody's feelings or if somebody's going to cry over it or whatever. Sometimes you're just fat. And it's okay to look at someone and say, hey, you're fat. And it doesn't make you a bully. And it doesn't make you some piece of shit just to say people are fat. BMI is in it because I'm fat.
Starting point is 00:05:20 And like my BMI, let me do a BMI calculation. I couldn't tell how much I weigh right now. But let's go to the BMI calculator. All right, here we go. BMI calculator. height. I am six foot three inches. And my weight, like,
Starting point is 00:05:35 Last check was like $2.90. So let's say $2.90 is my weight. Let's see. Age in years. 40. All right. Let's calculate. My body mass index is 36.2.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Here's the beauty. It is suggested that I weigh between 148 pounds and 199 pounds. Yeah, I don't think that's going to play, dog. I don't think a healthy weight. So like what would I? I need to go to chat GPT and see what I would look like if I weighed 148 pounds. Six foot to 148 pounds. Let me see here.
Starting point is 00:06:16 I'm going to go to Gypsy, my boo. Let's see here. Gypsy, what would I look like if I weighed 148 pounds? Okay. Let's see what they say. Show me. I can show you a realistic, a problem. of what you look like, but I need a current full-body photo.
Starting point is 00:06:38 She wants nudes. Gypsy wants nudes. Let's see if I can find a full-body shot. I haven't even sent a full-body shot. Let's see here, Gypsy. Where's a full-body shot? I don't know where to find a goddamn full-body shot. All I know is if I weighed 148 pounds,
Starting point is 00:06:57 like I've seen myself back when I was in high school and I lost all that weight because I was afraid to eat for a while, The lowest I got I want to say when I was in high school, did I get down to 175 pounds? And I looked frightening. I was like 6 foot 2, 6 foot 3, 175. I want to say it was the lowest weight I got to because I was about 2. What was I was I? Was I 2.30 when I was afraid to eat?
Starting point is 00:07:24 Like 220, 2.30, whatever it takes. I forgot how much I weighed. But I was afraid to eat. I've told you this story before, choked on a piece. piece of steak, afraid to eat, fine. So I lost 40 pounds. So I may have been like 2.15, 220 and I got down to like 175, 180. And I was frightening at 175, 180. Like I look at pictures now. I'm like, bro, you look sick. Wasn't eating super skinny. I look like Mr. Mackey. Like an orange on a toothpick. Like that is what I looked like. And that's apparently a normal
Starting point is 00:07:59 weight for me. And like I had no fat for the most part on me. My face was super skinny. I just need to find a full body shot and that's difficult. I need to see what Gypsy thinks I'd look like at 147 pounds, which is such a ridiculous. The idea of being 147 pounds is just preposterous. Okay, I sent, okay, I sent a decent shot. Okay. So I sent one, this is like from two years ago in St. Louis. It's like from the waist up. It's also me holding a 30 rack of bush lattes. So we'll see what they think I'd look like at 147 pounds. Ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:08:39 It's absurd. So, but normal would be, so by the way, 148 to 199. I haven't weighed 148 pounds since I was, you know, afraid to play football when I was, you know, 10 years old. But let's see here. I'm going to, I'll give you an update on what Gypsy thinks about what I'd look like. Let's see if it's frightening or not. Because I, dude, like, I look back on that and I'm blown away. Like, I think I was wearing a size 32 pants.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Like, I currently wear, like, a 38, but I think I was wearing a size 32. See, that's a lie. See, like, this picture they sent me, like, I think that looks kind of decent. I still think that's too skinny. That's too skinny, gypsy. And by the way, I can still see a little fat roll, so I'd be skinny fat. but that I see what you didn't take into consideration is how fat my face would or my face would look very frightening. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:37 So that's a lie. Like, because that looks decent. Gypsy, you're a lying bitch. That is not what I would look like if I was 147 pounds. You didn't take into consideration a lot of other factors. When I was 175 pounds, I looked like Karen fucking Carpenter. There's no way. Look, I'd fuck me in that picture.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Can you imagine? And dude, well, now I'm thinking about it. If I would lose. if I got down to 148 pounds, you know, my normal weight, if I got down to 148 pounds, that would be, I'd lose, that would be half of me. Like, there's no way. There's absolutely no way that that's what I would look like.
Starting point is 00:10:13 I know you guys can't see it, so it doesn't mean much to you. There's no way. Because if I lost half of me, because I'm currently like 290. So if I essentially lost half of myself, there's no way that's what I would look like because I don't look that terrible as is. This is bullshit.
Starting point is 00:10:29 And the BMI is bullshit, and we all know the BMI is bullshit. It's lies. Because it is. Because again, obese is obese. There's not a super obese. There's not like a, like, that's like super duper obese. There's not like obese plus. There's not obese classic.
Starting point is 00:10:48 There's nothing. It's just obese. You're either obese or you're not. And that's dumb. There's got to be a. different level to this. So I urge the doctors while we're talking about these things, all you medical professionals out there, what I would urge you to do is I would urge you to come up with a different level
Starting point is 00:11:10 of the BMI. Like it's like anything greater than 239 is obese. Well, how about like, well, once you get to like 300, you're like double obese. And then like, hey, you're 400. You start just putting shapes and shit in there to signal how fat you are. Like, there's got to be more than just obese. goddamn lazy doctors these doctors ain't worth a pot to piss in as my grandma would say but anyway and it's so damn hot like i'm dealing with so much like i'm telling with so much like
Starting point is 00:11:39 being like fat and being in 105 degrees is miserable there's nothing worse than being fat and hot. And these are the decisions I've made in my life to be in places that it's super fucking hot. But 105 degrees, I got sweat all up under my titties and in my side fat. Like, when you make the decision to live in a place that's really hot, you know that being fatting the play. Being fat's the play when it's, you know, nine degrees, not when it's 900 degrees. Like in Detroit, like during the winter, Detroit winter is brutal, right? And for the most part, I can handle being cold. But the worst weather situation was this winter in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Just despicable weather. And there's nothing worse. Like, there's two things I really hate. I hate having to wear layers of clothing slash hate having to wear a coat. I hate coats. I hate having to go into a place where you're going to have to take off your coat. Thus, your coat becomes your responsibility. Like, you go to a ball game.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Like, if you say you're going to a basketball game, but it's like, you know, nine degrees. outside so you have to put on a coat all the way up until you get into the game. Thus, you then have to sit on the fucking coat. Nothing worse than that. That's why I do everything possible to not bring a coat. I will deal with horrible, awful cold. As long as once I get in, I don't have to hold a coat or wear a coat because I hate coats. Now, it's different if you're outside of the sporting event and it's balls cold because
Starting point is 00:13:11 you're going to leave your coat on anyway. There's nothing worse than having to bring a coat into a venue and then you're responsible for the coat and it causes clutter and then it knocks your shit over, your beer gets knocked over by your coat, you step on your coat, thus it gets all sorts of of shit problems with it. I really hate that.
Starting point is 00:13:29 I think the coldest I've ever been in my life happened in Detroit this past winter. It's waiting outside in Royal Oak, which is this kind of a fluent suburb. By the way, like for all the issues in Detroit, you know, and obviously things didn't work out particularly well in Detroit, but for all the things in Detroit,
Starting point is 00:13:46 and by the way, I love the people in Detroit. The people were very nice. The people I work for in Detroit, very nice. But as far as being in the city goes, I think the suburbs of Detroit are fantastic. I think the traffic in Detroit for the most part is fantastic. I think how quickly you can get to places is great. Because you can live in some big cities,
Starting point is 00:14:07 and it takes you months to get to certain places. Like you're in Houston, it takes you a month to get out to the woodlands. You know, you live out in Dallas. It takes you a month to get out to, you know, Kenny or to places like that or you know, whatever. But in Detroit, it felt like you could get everywhere in like 10 minutes, almost anywhere within 20 minutes. I think I think a fair number to throw.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Within 20 minutes, you could get virtually anywhere in Detroit. And the traffic was never awful. Like you'd have little stretches like in most major cities. You'd have some stretches with some shitty traffic. But for the most part, it was fine. Like there's a lot of good about Detroit. And if radio situation were better and we were doing bigger things in Detroit, like I wouldn't mind staying in Detroit. The other issue you run into with it, though, is the winter.
Starting point is 00:14:57 The winter is so despicable and so gross and so terrible. Coldest I've ever been was in Royal Oak, Michigan, waiting to see a sea censori. I've never been colder in my life. Just miserable. Might as well be dead at so cold. Anyway, that's when it's good to be fat. When it's bad to be fat is when it's 105 degrees and you're sweating. wetting under your titties and life is difficult.
Starting point is 00:15:18 That's when it sucks to be fat. But speaking of being fat, my wife is home with fattening fried food, so I have to eat that now. We will reconvene. Maybe this weekend we'll do some more.
