All right, so I got a couple messages from people asking, hey, did you get fired again in Detroit? The answer is, no, dick. I did not get fired in Detroit. But I am no longer on in the morning in Detroit. It's part of this thing they're doing with a couple of radio stations where, like, they've got the same people on a handful of radio stations. And I happen to be one of those people that is in that group of people that are on these handful of radio stations. and one of those radio stations happened to be the radio station I was on in Detroit. So they have a morning show that they use for that.

And I was not that morning show. So they said, hey, do something else. We're going to put you on at night on this stuff and go for it. Now, just to let you know, that is not the end of my story. By that, I mean, I will be doing more things. Like, I can't tell you where I am or what I'm doing right now. because there's part of me that doesn't know what the fuck I'm doing. But I look, I'm not in Detroit and I haven't been in Detroit in three months.

And there was a stretch where I was going back and forth between this place I am now in Detroit doing the morning show there. It's been a while since I have been a permanent resident of Detroit. Now, I didn't expect to not be doing the morning show in Detroit. That's a new development, which I'm not overly sad about. Like in typical me fashion, there's a part of me that's like, well, why the fuck didn't you want to use me for that? But then the other part's like, okay, I just don't have to get up and do this anymore. I'm doing this night thing. I can do weird shit, I guess.

Like, that's kind of part of the plan. Is it just to do, kind of just be this weird kind of character at night, like I'm Wolfman Jack or something like that? Mind you, my permanent gig is not going to be being nighttime radio guy. There are other things that are in the works in other places. I just cannot tell you where those places are or what those jobs are. But there are other things. But I'm not fired and I'm not even really demoted if you want to get technical. Like I don't view it.

It's a weird thing. Radio is a very strange thing now. Like so it's a weird phenomenon the way some of these radio stations move talent around and different stuff. And so basically I'm just part of this. I refuse to call it a syndicate. I think it's not. But it's a, again, like, so let me give you an example. Hear that? It's your money calling. So I was doing nights in Utah and afternoons in Denver. And at one point I was also doing nights in Seattle, right? So what they've done now is they've created this lineup of people that are currently on a handful of stations. And I am one of those. So like I am still on in Utah at night. I am also on at night in Detroit.

I am also on at night in Sarasota, Florida, and I'm also on at night in, let's see, what's the other city? I'm missing one. Oh, up in New Hampshire. So I think it's four stations currently. But that's what I'm doing. So currently that is my gig. I do that, and then I do afternoons in Denver on a station called KBPI.

These are all music stations, mind you. Now, there is something else that is in the works. I cannot tell you what that is, but something else is in the works, and has been in the works for a while, but I cannot tell you what that is. And hopefully soon I'll be able to, and I'll be able to tell you where it is that I live,

this mystery location. But here's what I do need from you guys that listen to the podcast, because I want to make this nighttime thing super wacky, Because if someone's going to put me on to do something, I'm going to give it the best of my ability and try to make it fucking great. Because why not? You know?

Like I could sit around here and be like super pissed off. Look, here's some, a dose of reality. The reality was that it was a very giant uphill climb in Detroit that was borderline unwinnable. It's just a tough spot. They got a massive morning show on the other rock station that's been there 15 years on a rock station that's been around 60 years. You got Mojo, my buddy.

You got the sports station. it's like 20 shares. It was a damn near unwinnable situation. Gave it a good try. We were limited in what we could do. You know, there's certain things. Like, I'm not going to make excuses, right? Because our buddy Drew Brees said, you know,

there comes a point in life where you stop making excuses. I'm not, look, there is a difference between excuses and the reality of situations. The reality of the situation was it was a tough put. I worked with wonderful people and still do. I still work with these people. I work for wonderful people. hardworking people, smart people.

We knew that this was going to be a massive long shot that it was going to be super successful. It was tough. You know, it's one thing to go into a city where, you know, there isn't an established show. It's another thing to go into a city where there's like five of them. And, you know, we're on the fifth rock station there, I think fourth or fifth. I mean, there were obvious tough barriers. There were hills that needed to be climbed for that to be successful. And look, we knew it was going to be tough.

And they're taking this route now. I'm not offended by it. There are moments I get offended by because I always have these kind of moments where I'm like, what the fuck? But for the most part, deep down, I'm not offended by the idea of it. I have a job. I'm going to have more coming. I just can't tell you what it is. But, I mean, we knew that going in because Detroit's a tough market in terms of, you know,

there's a radio station called WRIF. It is a legendary rock station that's had giant morning shows on it forever and the current morning show on there that I don't think is all that great, but it's been there on the, you know, they got the benefit of being the big rock station in town and they got the big long form talk show. And it does very well. It's like the number one show in town. You got my guy Mojo who worked right next to me in Detroit. He's got a huge all talk show. You see in a trend here?

I do believe that if you're going to be successful in any of these formats, You do have to commit yourself to the people who are the talent, not necessarily all music all the time type of deal. You do have to, and I've said this before and I've said it on the radio there. So it's nothing new. You do have to be committed to the talent and the hosts because the reality is people can go get music anywhere, but they can't just get Josh anywhere or mojo anywhere, or the sports guys anywhere. Like, you know, you have to be able to entertain people and you have to be the reason they're coming. The reason they're coming cannot be five-finger death punch or the red hot chili peppers or falling in reverse or the Stone Temple pilots. Like that can't be the reason they're coming.

That's the reason they're coming. Then they can come and go anywhere. You have to be the guy and you have to be the reason that they are coming. And if you can become that, you know, like Preston and Steve. You know, MMR is a fine radio station. But Preston and Steve are the reason why people are coming. They're not coming to the morning show because you might hear Bruce Springsteen or something. No, they're coming because of Preston and Steve.

Now, the task and the journey in all of this is getting to that point that you are that person they're coming to hear. And I've been that before, and I haven't been that before, quite frankly, you know, never got to that point really in Detroit. I get it. But it was a tough put either way. But here's where I do need your help. So I do have a Google voice number. And I want you guys to remember this number and leave me voicemails on this. It's actually a live phone number.

So if I happen to be, you know, by the computer, I can answer it. But the phone number that I need you guys to remember is, let's see. Hell, what the hell is that number? I change the damn number. I believe it's 414. 667 2337. So 414-677

beer, I believe is the phone number. And again, I get it ha-ha-wacky beer. I did that because it'd just be easy to say on the radio. So that phone number is, just to make sure I got it right here, 414-667. Okay, 414-6-6-7. 667-2337. That's the burner phone.

The burner phone is back. And you can leave me voicemails any time a day. And I can use these on this nighttime thing. Because I want this nighttime shit to sound good. I want people to listen to that and go, this is good shit. You know, I want it to be successful. Like, I don't want to go into anything, you know, doing it half-ass and having it sound like shit, you know. Like, I'm not going to just take this and go, well, I'm not doing the morning show.

So fuck it. No. I want, when they listen to this, I want them to go, well, this is the best shit we got. This is awesome. So anytime you're drinking, anytime you're just hanging out, anytime you have thoughts on anything, 414-667-2337. That's 414-667 beer. And leave me some voicemails on that.

So all that to tell you this. I was not fired. I am still employed by I heart. it is a strange situation, and one day I will tell you all the details on the strange situation. All I have to offer you right now is this. I am not doing mornings in Detroit. I am on at night on a handful of radio stations. I am on in the afternoon at one radio station.

On the weekends, I'm on some other radio stations, like great radio stations, like the Eagle in Dallas, and KMOD in Tulsa, and the brew in Portland. and the X in Pittsburgh and KBPI in Denver. And that's cool. Like I'm not saying that to blow myself. A lot of people do that. But I'm just letting you know that these are the places I do radio. And there will be another place.

And I will be back on in the morning somewhere at some point. I just cannot tell you where that somewhere at some point is. But it will happen soon enough.
