Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, everybody, welcome in. Josh Ennis. It is all up in this. Thursday edition, everybody. So there's a headline, front page of the USA Today website. There's a picture of like a little dirt bike and a little kid that has to be like, I don't know, six years old, maybe at the most six years old. And he's wearing like a little motorcycle helmet and everything. And the headline reads, the shocking reasons this is the deadliest sport for kids I don't fucking know because it's a five-year-old kid riding a dirt bike I don't know
Starting point is 00:00:36 but now I'm curious now I have to read this I am genuinely curious please enlighten me why is like B or like dirt this isn't BMX this isn't bicycles this is dirt bikes
Starting point is 00:00:46 so this is like dudes on dirt bikes like little five-year-old six-year-old seven-year-old kids on dirt bikes the shocking reasons this is the deadliest sport for kids I don't know, because soccer isn't as deadly as a five-year-old kid riding a dirt bike? I don't know. Let's play a couple commercials, and we will get into this.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Let's find out why this is the deadliest sport for kids. All right, here we go. Let's dive into this. More dangerous than football, motocross is the deadliest sport for kids. What planet is this? What universe are we in? like this is supposed to be some sort of shocking development? What is this planet?
Starting point is 00:01:29 Guys, I don't know if you knew this. But a sport where you put like five, six-year-old kids on a dirt bike and have them race around a track is actually more violent and more dangerous than football. But let's see here. Let's find out. In Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, two medics rolled Ashley Soloski onto a backboard and fitted the 19-year-old with a neck brace in the middle of the dirt motocross track. Other teen racers whizzed past on their off-road motorcycles, no halt to the race, no safety flaggers in sight.
Starting point is 00:02:02 Solkasky had sharpened her race skills for years and finally broke through a mid-east regional qualifier to be here at Loretta Lens Ranch among the dust and roar of the sport that ran in her family's blood. But just minutes into the race, she flew off her Yamaha YZ 250 motorcycle and another rider ran her over. Her neck, skull, shoulder, leg, wrists were all broken. Her right lung was crushed. She was barely breathing and had a faint pulse. The record of the 2010 National Motorcross Championship listed Sokasky's official results is did not finish. The injuries would kill her.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Investigation found that at least 158 children and teens have died on dirt bikes at motorcross track since 2000, more than six per year. That makes it the deadliest sport for young people. roughly seven times greater than tackle football. Yeah. Here's a picture that picture I referred to, or I alluded to, the picture of the kid. Ashley Sokolski's niece, Natalie Henderson, four, receives assistance putting on a helmet from her father, Thomas Henderson, 37, before riding her dirt bike at their home on October 11th, 25 in St. Clair, Michigan. That's right here in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:03:18 That child is four years old About to ride a dirt bike Like why is this a story Of course this is more dangerous than playing football Who was like here listen guys I got a great idea for a story Here's what we're going to do We're going to do a story about how about the most dangerous sports for kids Oh really is there going to be some shocking revelation
Starting point is 00:03:39 Is swimming the most dangerous sport for kids Are kids drowning or they diving into the pool incorrectly And cracking their skulls and breaking their necks in the swimming pool no as a matter of fact they're not you're not going to believe this oh hold hold on is it baseball like our kids getting hit in the skull by pitches and having their their brains mashed by that no it's actually not that hockey are like young kids playing hockey and getting their neck slit like their jugular is slit by a skate no actually so like what is there is like a shocking development yes you'll be shocked to find out that the most dangerous sport that kills the most young kids in america is kids that are four years old right Dirt Bikes. Nineteen of the fatalities involve riders 10 years old or younger. No way. The sport is inherently dangerous, but fatal incidents follow a pattern where safeguards are ignored.
Starting point is 00:04:31 The investigation showed riders of significantly different ages and sizes compete on the same courses, many of which include obstacles such as fences, trees, and vehicles too close to the tracks. No way! You mean to tell me, like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, you mean to tell me? that the most dangerous sport for children in America, the most dangerous sport in this country for children, is riding motorized dirt bikes. You mean to tell me that it's not overly safe for a four-year-old to be riding a dirt bike on a dirt track? No. No way.
Starting point is 00:05:11 When crashes occur, many tracks still don't have trained staff with flags or lights to warn other participants. and medics lack the advanced training necessary to care for and transport injured riders. And then there's a whole like pictorial, like a diagram of what happens to these people at the track. A devoted cohort of America's young dirt bike racers nationwide are pulled to the sport that culminates each July at Loretta Lens Ranch. The week-long competition is filled with deafening engines, colorful race uniforms, and the odor of race fuel exhaust in the air. Great. here's the thing kiddos if we're being honest about this which i believe we are right we're allowed to be honest we're in the trush tree right are we not the idea that this is a front page
Starting point is 00:05:55 story in the USA today and that the headline reads the shocking reasons this is the deadliest sport for kids like i'm not shocked by this these are not things that shock me and you can tell me about like oh these things are poorly ran and like well no shit they're probably poorly run it's a hillbilly sport like dirt bike racing and that's probably not going to be the most safeguarded situation. No offense to those who do this, but it's a very hillbilly thing to do to have your kids that are four years old riding dirt bikes. Now, that's not to say that every four-year-old kid that rides dirt bikes dies.
Starting point is 00:06:30 I'm well aware of that. And if you want you to throw your kids on a dirt bike, I really don't care what you do. It's not my life. It's not my kid. It's something you have to deal with and it's not my job to take care of your kids or to parent your kids or tell you how to parent. So do whatever it is you want to do. Live your life, children, do whatever you want to do.
Starting point is 00:06:48 However, when I read a story and the headline is, the shocking reasons, this is the deadliest sport for kids, and there's a picture of a four-year-old kid getting his helmet or, and actually it's her helmet on to go ride a dirt bike around a track. Like, sorry, I'm not shocked by this. There's nothing shocking. If you were to tell me that the most shocking, again, the shocking thing is, again, the shocking thing would be like, oh, some kids die playing lacrosse or some kids
Starting point is 00:07:16 die playing basketball. But to tell me that more kids die riding dirt bikes than die playing football, like no shit. Like, real talk, like, I don't believe it. I don't know this for a fact. But like when four-year-old kids play football, like I would imagine like the big risk you would have is like they fall
Starting point is 00:07:32 backwards, they hit their head. That's where a lot of concussions happen. Those kids aren't hitting each other with enough force when they're four years old. I don't think to cause any sort of catastrophic issue. I might be wrong. I think I've told you guys the story. I know I've told you guys the story before about when I played high school or when I played football when I was like 10 and my dad was like Josh I think you should play football and I'm like all right sure and he called my grandpa's like Josh going to play football and I'm like okay cool so you know you get the whole uniform and everything and the helmet and you get shoulder pads and you go out to practice and it's exciting and it's like boy I'm a football player and I'm ready to do this because look I love football I've watched football my whole life now I'm doing some living this is great and the second I got out there. The first moment I walked on the field, I'm like, yep, this shit ain't for me.
Starting point is 00:08:16 I do not want to do this. But I was already committed because dad had bought the pads and everything. And every day that I went to practice, that was with the They Just Don't Know guy, right? So he'd, you know, they just don't know. And he'd pick me up and play bad to the bone in the car. And there'd be like eight of us in this guy's truck. And some would be riding in the bed of the truck. But it was 1996.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Who the hell cares? 1996, 1997, Louisiana. Who gave a shit if you were sitting in the bed of a guy's truck? And we'd all hop in with our pads. we get to practice. I don't remember any of the names of any of the players because they all probably thought I was a giant pussy and I was a giant pussy. There is no denying that. There is no like, no, no, I wasn't a pussy. I was a gigantic gaping vagina of a 10 year old kid, 11 year old kid trying to play football. It was the worst experience of my life. I was constantly petrified. I wanted
Starting point is 00:09:02 nothing to do with it. And the greatest miracle ever happened. And I never got to play in the games as we've talked about because I was too fat to play in the games. I didn't make weight. I think the weight limit was It's like 135 or something like that. And I clocked in at like 138 and they're like, oh boy, that's a little too fat. You can't play. And I would try to lose weight every Friday night before the games. Like I'd go out there and I'd sit in a steam room, you know, and all that shit. My dad would have me in the car wearing like sweats and have the heat on trying to sweat out pounds.
Starting point is 00:09:32 It was ridiculous. It was a whole stupid thing. But the greatest thing ever happened and that was I broke my wrist and I didn't have to play football anymore. Never played in a game. I don't remember much about going to practices other than I was petrified every time, getting tackled, getting hitting people. It was the worst. And I wanted nothing to do with it. But I tell you all that to tell you this.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Like, there's no way that anybody would look at that and go, you know what I think is more dangerous is like hockey or or basketball over motocross. Like the idea that we're trying to sell this idea, like, hey, guys, I don't know if you knew this. but the shocking reasons why this is the most dangerous sport. You can tell me that they don't have people that are, like, trained, and you can tell me about all the safeguards they're not taking, and that's fine. At the end of the day, you're putting, like, four- and five-year-old kids on dirt bikes and saying, hey, go ahead and run around a track and see what happens. So you can tell me that it's shocking, that there's a bunch of trees that line the course,
Starting point is 00:10:29 and you can tell me all this other shit about it. Tell me that all you want. It doesn't change my opinion. You're putting four-year-old kids on a goddamn motorcycle. You're putting teenagers on a motorcycle. telling them to race around a dirt track and hope for the fucking best. Of course it's the most dangerous sport for kids. I'm looking at a picture of a four-year-old girl that's about to ride a dirt bike across a track.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Like, what do you think's going to happen? Like, the best case scenario is that, like, there's a crash and the kid doesn't get hurt. Like, how do you not have a crash when there's a four-year-old kid riding a dirt bike? Enlighten me. How is there a situation where there is a four-year-old kid that rides a dirt bike and doesn't get hurt? Like the shocking reasons. Like, that's the front page story on USA Today. Like, at least, here's a, at least don't put the picture up there.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Like, this is the one time that I would say do clickbait, right? The shocking reason, this is the deadliest sport for kids. Just put that and put like a picture of a kid up there. Just so I'll click it and find out what the deadliest sport is. Because you've put the picture up there to let me know that dirt bike racing for four-year-olds is the most dangerous sport, the deadliest sport for kids. No shit. How many kids you know have died playing bad? basketball. How many kids you know died playing baseball or football? Not that many. Of course
Starting point is 00:11:43 this is the most dangerous. Hey guys, did you know that the most dangerous professional sport is NASCAR racing? No shit. You don't say. Anyway, more to come.
