I know I talk about this a lot, but it is truly astounding that there are only 32 starting
quarterbacks in the NFL and that we have such a large number of them, a high percentage
of these dudes who are just not good and not just bad, but like super bad.
It is wild.
And we talk about it pretty frequently.
Is it the coaching?
What is the reason why?
How did we get to a point that quarterback play is this abysmal, right?
When there's only 32 of these.
If there were only 32 bankers in the world, then those should be the best fucking bankers on the planet.
You know, but there's a billion of them.
There's 32.
There are 32 NFL quarterbacks.
None of them should be abysmal.
You know, like we talk about people, well, first of all, let me play a couple commercials and we'll continue.
Like, think about it this way, right?
Like, how many cops are there in America?
Like hundreds of thousands of police officers, maybe millions.
Who knows how many cops there are in America?
I'm actually genuinely curious to know what that number is.
How many cops are in the U.S.?
Let's see.
Over 800,000 law enforcement officers, okay, 137 federal officers, right?
When you've got that many people, you're probably going to find one or two
who aren't very good at their job.
You'll find, like, when people talk about, well, most cops are good,
but then there are some shitheads that, you know, shoot unarmed people and her
assholes, right?
Like, you're going to get a handful of those eight.
hundred thousand that just aren't very good at their jobs right like that's just kind of how these
things work sometimes they're going to suck if there's only 32 people in a position then they should
be all some varying level of good not like there's great ones and then dog shit ones but that's
kind of how the NFL is it's just like a handful of really good ones and a whole bunch of dog
shit ones and maybe one or two or three in there that are kind of middle of the pack right there should
never be a scenario where that's the case when there's only 32 people for a job, but that's
where we are in the current world of the NFL. And I bring this up because Woody Johnson, who is
the owner of the Jets, and look, when you're the owner of a team and it's your money, I feel like
you can pretty much say whatever the fuck you want. Like, it's your sandbox. You own the team.
You're the reason why the team exists. You're the one with the money. You should be able to go
out and say whatever you want about whatever player or whatever coach you want, and they just have to
fucking deal with it because it's your money.
Like, people tend to forget that this is real money being spent.
And I get it when a team sucks for a long time.
You question whether or not they even care about it.
Like the pirates.
The pirates make so much money from rev sharing and everything else that they don't have to
go out and put even a respectable team on the field.
They don't give a shit about winning, right?
So I get where you'd rip a team like that.
But for the most part, if there's anybody who's even remotely competitive and someone
who enjoys their money, they don't want their money to be just set on fire.
And Woody Johnson, for the most part, sets his money on fire every year.
And one of the things that happened yesterday was Woody Johnson took a shot at Justin Fields.
Now, I would imagine that's something that's probably going to draw the ire of what is called black Twitter
because you're probably going to have dudes who are just angry.
And that's usually how these go.
And like rich white person or white person in general says anything critical of black person, black player or whatever,
there's going to be a certain crew of people whose antennae go up and they're like,
wait a minute, racist, and you'll get that, and whatever.
But I think even black folks think Justin Field sucks, so I think it's okay.
But you know how that goes.
Rich White owner or Rich White Governor, if this were the NBA, says something about
black player, and you're probably going to get some of that blowback.
But let's see.
The New York Jets offense hasn't left the tarmac, and team owner Woody Johnson wasn't shy
about giving a reason for that.
At NFL owners meetings in New York City, Johnson spoke about the state of the
struggles of the Jets, who remain the only winless team in the league at O'N7.
The owner was asked about his confidence level in Aaron Glenn's ability to turn things
around. Johnson believes that Glenn is fixing parts of the team but didn't hold back when
discussing the quarterback problem brought on by Justin Field's shortcomings through seven games.
Quote, it's hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that we've got, he said via
Newsday. He's got the ability, but something's not jibing. If you look at any head coach
with a quarterback like that, you're going to
see similar issues.
I don't even know what's wrong
with that. Like people, like the headline,
Jets owner takes aim at Justin Fields
amidst teams, that's not really taking aim.
You're the quarterback, right?
Like the quarterback's going to get credit and blame
no matter how the game goes.
Quarterback can go 11 of 37, but have a game
winning drive, and he's going to get the credit over the
defense or anybody else. He's going to get the credit over
the wide receiver, whatever. Quarterback can go
27 of 37 for 400 yards and lose, and he'll get the blame. That's the way it goes. I'm not really
explaining anything you didn't already know, but the quarterback position gets the credit, gets
the blame, and you can sit there and bitch about it and whine about it and question it or
just accept it. So the idea that Woody Johnson is, quote, taking aim at Justin Fields is a
deliberately misleading headline that is designed to get people to click on it and think that
the owner said something that was completely unfair, and he didn't. If your quarterback sucks
in the NFL, guess what?
You're not going to win.
Homeboy Callahan got fired
in Tennessee. Now, maybe he's a shitty
coach, deserved to be fired,
but you're going to get fired when your quarterback play
is dreadful.
Pete Carroll won a Super Bowl
with Seattle, should have won two.
Had a pretty good quarterback play with Rusty Wilson there.
He's got Gino Smith, who's terrible
now, and they suck.
Even good coach?
Look, Sean Payton is considered a good
coach, right? And when Drew Brees was
quarterback, he was really good.
What were the Saints when Drew Brees left?
They were a man. Sean Payton rolled out.
They were fine, but they weren't what they were
with Drew Brees. This isn't
difficult. So, like, honestly,
the guy just said something accurate.
He didn't say something offensive.
He didn't say something that is
racist. He didn't say something that is
like, oh my God, I can't believe he said that.
Now, the headlines would make you believe that.
But in reality, all you got here is honesty.
If we could just complete a pass, it would look
good Johnson added. You've got to convince them that you've got that you could do something.
Otherwise, it's hard to have a game that you can win. Look, it's a shot, I guess, but it's an
honest statement. We can't complete a pass. I sat there and was listening to their London game
a couple weeks ago. I was listening to it while I was walking Ross. And their offense was
so inept that like every other play was a sack. Every other play was an incompletion.
Like, he ain't lying. Find a team that's going to go out and win games when their quarterback.
can't complete passes.
And Justin Fields is a special kind of suck.
And maybe you can spin it and say, oh, the coordinator sucks or the coach sucks or whatever.
If you're the most ardent supporter of Justin Fields and really think that he's been given a
raw deal, you could do that.
Or you could just be real and be honest with yourself and say he sucks.
99% of the people know Justin Field sucks.
There's a small portion of the internet wackos that can't stand when a white guy says
something about a black guy and they have to put on their cape and fly in to save the guy.
But outside of that small group of people, most people know he blows and know that Woody Johnson's saying that we can't complete a pass is reality.
Because it's true.
Like, we should expect owners to be that kind of honest.
That's my fucking money we're talking about here.
Like, whenever your money's involved with it, you get super honest about a lot of shit.
You don't mind watching some guy slack off at his job whenever it's someone else's money and somebody else's time.
But the second, it's your money paying for someone to do a good contribution.
construction job or paying your house you're like hey fuck you bro this is my money when it's the
owner's money involved he can and should say whatever the fuck he wants to say and i know that a lot of
these guys try to keep it pc and try to keep it above board and try to keep it honest and what fuck that
this guy like yeah i get he's a billionaire he's setting his money on fire with an oh and seven
football team with a quarterback who's terrible i don't know why they keep throwing the guy out there but
they do. God, the stats are just so bad.
I don't really care about pro football focus statistics.
I believe they're all made up fairy tale shit that I have no interest in.
Fields was given a vote of confidence from his coach ahead of his most recent outing,
but that was short-lived as the pressure mounted.
His average depth of target checks in at 7.4 yards, which ranks 32nd among 41 starting
quarterbacks this season.
More notably, Fields' biggest issue is hanging on to the ball for too long.
The quarterback is taking an average of 3.13 seconds to throw, the fourth longest starting quarterbacks.
He sucks.
This isn't breaking news, but he sucks.
I would expect my boss to come in and tell me, because I can be honest with myself.
And I think sometimes people can't be publicly honest.
Now, I think I'm someone who can be too honest with myself publicly.
Like, shit, the other day we were like, you know, we're in 20th place.
We were looking at ratings.
The hard part about some of these ratings things is it's kind of out of your control.
You do the best you can.
But like you come into a situation, you've got to try to.
do better. Like my dad tells me that I'm too honest about how much I suck. He's like, Josh,
you talk yourself out of jobs more than anybody by letting people know that you suck. I'm like,
I don't know why. Like I just, because I know that people are just thinking the same thing,
so I have to say what these people are thinking. That's a downfall of me. It's one of my
issues. But wolf, man, like, if you're that bad, I'm glad the owner's, I would want
the owner. I would want Mr. I heart to tell me that I suck publicly too.
if I suck.
So I'm on Woody Johnson's side.
Give me more of that.
Give me more honesty.
Give me more honesty.
Give me more owners stepping up and saying, like, I'm not paying for this shit.
And you should see it more in college, too.
We sit here and try to protect the delicate sensibilities of the college kids.
And I can't believe he'd be critical of a college kid.
Well, I can't believe a college kid.
We get paid a million dollars to go play quarterback at TCU.
But if he fucking sucks, he should be treated like an adult.
He should be treated like a grown-ass adult.
And that's how we should treat everybody in that situation.
Anywho, more to come.
