Just reading a story about DeMarcus Cousins who was a hot-headed NBA player of course, but DeMarcus Cousins
Got into it with fans at a basketball game in Puerto Rico
He got into an altercation with a fan sitting courtside exiting to a shower of beverages from angry onlookers
Cousins a four-time all-star center with the Kings and Pelicans, was playing for
the Guanabo Mets in Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional League when he exchanged
words with a spectator on the front row during a timeout. Cousins made a crude gesture towards
the man before slapping him. Teammates quickly stepped between the two and held Cousins made a crude gesture towards the man before slapping him. Teammates quickly stepped between the two and held Cousins back.
As he was being escorted off the court toward the locker room,
Cousins got into a shouting match with hecklers who proceeded to throw food and drinks at him,
setting off another scuffle.
You know, like, I'm not going to judge people for making money,
doing whatever they have to do to make money, right? Like there were
some guys that made a shitload of money in the NBA and their
career kind of tailed off and they went off to China and
became the biggest star. Was it Stefan Marbury, I believe, who
went to China and just became this gigantic figure, a bigger
star in Chinese basketball than he was in American basketball even. So like it's easy to sit
back and judge somebody for playing for, you know, the
the Chinese basketball league or in Puerto Rico or wherever
the hell you might be playing when there's a lot of money
to be had like there are dudes that just decide I want to
say Jimmer Fredette may still play over in China or at least did play in
China. Jimmur was a nothing burger in the pros. He had the little moment that he had playing with
BYU was a nothing burger in the pros here. Goes over to China and has a nice career and you play
for you know like the the the the the the show who the sharks are. There was always there was
always sharks. Like there's all these teams back when I did mornings.
And I was really deep into some shit when I was doing mornings
in Nashville, because I had time to kill like I'd wake up at
three, four in the morning, I'd have a 20 minute drive to work.
And I'd be like, well, what's there to bet on? And I would bet
on Chinese basketball games, like because that's what was
going on at five or six o'clock in the morning was Chinese basketball and that's what I
would bet on because I was a fucking degenerate when I was
doing mornings in Nashville. Like I just sit there and be
like well, I guess the Shang. That's what it was the Shanghai
Sharks are playing right now and look there's good money in
that for a lot of these guys and look I can't
imagine the money is great playing basketball in Puerto Rico like to me that feels like oh how the
mighty hath fallen is when you're playing basketball in Puerto Rico it's one thing to play in China
which is kind of a reputable basketball league and dudes make serious cash doing that and you become
an icon I think it was Stefan Marbury who did there was a documentary
about how Stefan Marbury just like remember when when Marbury
had tennis shoes at Stephen Barry's like like Marbury had
the Starberries and you can buy them at Stephen Barry's with
like a $7.98 Hickory Letterman jacket, you know, like that's
what you would get Stephen Barry's and then Marbury just went off to China and became this gigantic jacket, you know, like that's what you would get at Stephen Berry's. And then Marbury just went off to China and became this gigantic thing,
you know. So like it's easy to rip dudes for not being in the NBA, and I'm sure
if they had their druthers, they'd be in the NBA over China. But there's money
that those dudes can make there and can become big stars and get big endorsements.
When I see DeMarcus Cousins fighting with people in Puerto Rico. Like it reeks of Kenny Powers.
Like it feels like, oh, how the mighty have fallen
that you're slapping fans in a Puerto Rican basketball league
where I'm gonna guess you're not making a ton of cash
to play basketball in Puerto Rico.
I'm not positive, but I'm gonna guess you're not.
And I'm not gonna just shit on people again for like,
you know, like, look, here's, well,
first of all, let me play a couple commercials and we'll continue.

job I'm going to get is not going to be as glamorous financially as some of the other
jobs I've had. You know, I worked at WIP in Philadelphia. That was a pretty big job. That
is a huge sports radio station, top two or three sports
stations in the country and a sports passionate city on the
East Coast. If I just would have sat back and played my cards,
right, who knows I could be doing TV, I could be doing
something, but I didn't. It just wasn't in the cards for me.
It's not how I approach things. It's not how I handled things.
So it just that's how it went. And you know, I made decent money doing
that. It wasn't the most money I've ever made. The most money
I ever made was in Houston. And that wasn't, you know, the most
glamorous job in terms of what the station was but I made a
fuck ton of money. And then after I lost that gig, you know
what I had to do after that? I had to go to 97.5 in Houston
during the Rona and I had to
work for free. So like I get the whole how the mighty has
fallen angle. So I'm not even ripping the dude for playing
basketball down in Puerto Rico. You want to play basketball
down in Puerto Rico, play basketball in Puerto Rico. If
it's how you're making some extra cash, I'm going to guess
to Marcus Cousins doesn't need money. The dude probably made
100 million dollars playing basketball with his endorsements and with his just
his salary probably made over $100 million. So if he was smart
with it, he's probably doing fine. Wants to hoop for the sake
of hoop and I guess right. But it's a real shitty look to be
getting in. It's not a shitty look to be playing basketball in
Puerto Rico. It's not a shitty look to be playing basketball in China or Japan or Taiwan or wherever the fuck you're playing basketball.
It is a bad look to be a former NBA star who is getting heckled down in Puerto Rico to the point
that you are getting into fights with the spectators. Like that's when it's bad. That's when things have maybe gone off the deep end for DeMarcus' cousins.
But you know I was thinking about that too when you think about how the mighty have fallen and you think about where dudes once were like Trevor Bauer.
Trevor Bauer of course was a situation where he was accused of sexual assault or whatever it was and now like he's been exonerated of that. He's ever
going to pitch in the big leagues again and it's probably
cost him hundreds of millions of dollars, but you watch his
situation and how sad is it that you've got Trevor Bauer out
here like throwing pitches against randos and Trevor
Bauer is one of Cy Young and Trevor Bauer is out here, you
know pitching against randos pitching in Korea or Japan or wherever the fuck he's pitching and it's here, you know, pitching against randos, pitching in Korea or Japan or wherever
the fuck he's pitching and it's like, you know, like, like there's no shame in pitching
in Korea or Japan or wherever. But like to see what you were and what you missed out
onto what you are now and in his case, just because he likes some real kinky shit. Imagine
having your livelihood where you've been making millions
of dollars and you could like, look, people rip him now because they think he's a sexual
predator and they act like he's always sucked or that he couldn't get people out in the
majors now. He could. He was going to make a shitload of money. But imagine the point
you're at where you could have been making a shitload of money and basically because
you're a horn dog who does weird freaky deaky sex things, like should that cost you
$100 million? No, but you put yourself in a position to get extorted or whatever and
now you cost yourself $100 million because of freaky deaky sex world. That would probably
fall under the category of dumb shit, under the category of oh how the mighty hath fallen. And as I tell you that all the time, like and I've talked about this with like Lenny
Dykstra, another great example of how the mighty hath fallen. This dude was making apparently
hundreds of millions of dollars with these car washes and granted the whole thing was
seemingly a scam, but like you're watching him on private planes and he owns this chain
of car washes and then like fast forward to a couple years ago and he's digging through a garbage can at Jersey Mike's looking for his
fucking teeth and you're like how do you get to this point? Like how if you're like I have nothing
against Jason Whitlock but Jason Whitlock goes from being on ESPN and being on Fox to now like doing
his own web stream which I'm sure he makes some money doing, but like to have the exposure and everything
and being on ESPN to kind of being a guy who yells at clouds
about race non-stop on your YouTube channel. Like it's such
a weird thing. Like there's no shame in doing a YouTube show.
There's no shame in having a podcast, but to kind of sink
to a sad level, it's not shameful, but it just sucks.
Like I'll watch some of the Whitlock stuff sometimes and it's just kind of like,
it feels like, it just feels like seedy kind of underground shit
and it's the same shit over and over and it's just kind of like,
oh how the mighty has fallen. And there are times I feel like that about myself. You know,, that's I don't want to get into a point, and I know what you're saying Josh, during the
Rona you would pass out on YouTube, like who are you to talk and you'd be, hey that's fair.
But like I don't want to get to a point where what you're doing is considered to be just like a niche
kind of joke, right? Or something that's considered unseemly, if that's the right word.
Like to me it's unseemly for like for a guy like DeMarcus Cousins, who by the way had issues in the
NBA too, but DeMarcus Cousins is not only playing basketball in Puerto Rico, DeMarcus Cousins is
fighting, fist fighting, slapping, having altercations with fans in Puerto Rico. Like that's
unseemly, you know. Like when during the Rona and everybody was trapped in their
house, we did some wacky shit, right? Like I get it, right? I'm the guy that used to
be on WIP and now I'm a guy that's in there singing Yacht Rock karaoke and
getting blitzed to the point that I fall asleep and people are sending me money to
take shots of Malort and shit, but it was the Ronan you do wacky shit.
Like you don't want to get to a point where what you're doing
is seemingly just for like this weird kind of dirty grimy,
like underground type of shit, right? Like you don't like,
like I don't take Jason Whitlock seriously because I view Jason Whitlock is just kind of a
sad race baiter type guy like I just I don't take him seriously but like I'll I take Pat Mac if he's
seriously he's a podcaster I take Joe Rogan seriously he's a podcaster like but like I like
Lenny Dykstra like nothing Lenny Dykstra does do I take seriously I like him but like Lenny Dykstra
is not one to be taken seriously.
Like I don't take Antonio Brown seriously. I'm tickled by him. Like yesterday he's like talking
about how he fucked Gavin Newsom's wife or whatever. I'm like ah ha ha that's funny. Like I
I watch Antonio Brown and I see some of the shit he does but like I wouldn't want to associate
with Antonio Brown if that makes sense. Like there are people that like are kind of unseemly and then
you're like there's other people who you just do not want to associate with. Like you'll look at
them from afar and you'll think some of the shit they do is funny but then you're kind of like yeah
I don't really want to associate with that guy. Like for whatever reason I don't want to become
the guy that people don't want to associate with if that that makes sense. And I don't think I've ever gotten totally to that point.
But I don't want to live that life.
Pat McAfee's got a cool life and he's still mainstream,
but his show is underground enough.
That's a cool deal, right?
I watched Jason Whitlock and I feel like Jason Whitlock
is fighting with fans in Puerto Rico.
That's how I feel.
And I do think that there was a point in my life that I was kind
of slip sliding into that universe of like constantly fighting with people
and I'm talking about fan and like listeners online and constantly like
fighting with everybody and I don't want to be that.
You know, does that make sense?
Do you guys kind of get where I'm coming from there?
You know, you don't want to be like there's no shame in not being where you once were.
You know, like the next job I get is going to have to be a job that's probably I mean, look, I was making a shitload of money when I took this job in St. Louis.
Well into six figures, I was not making six figures base in Nashville. I was going to come close in my next deal, but I'm making well into six figures in this one in St. Louis. I took
the job. The job was a flop and it is what it is, right? So
whatever job I'm going to get next is probably going to be
something that maybe makes a third of that, if that, right?
And I'm going to accept that. There's no shame in that, right?
Like you kind of have to do it. There's no shame in being less
than what you once were. There's no shame in playing basketball in China. There's no shame in being less than what you once were. There's no shame in playing basketball
in China. There's no shame in playing basketball in Puerto
Rico. There is shame in slapping fans in Puerto Rico. And that's
whatever my next gig is going to be. I don't want it to be
there's Josh slapping people in Puerto Rico. If that makes any
sense. You might be listening to the same Josh. I have no fucking
clue what you're talking about. Go back to drinking fucking shots of waffle, Eggo waffle, alcohol
online. Like cool, you know, but like, I don't know, it's just
straight. When I saw that story about DeMarcus Cousins, I'm
like, shit, like, like, again, no shame in playing basketball.
Like you probably rich as shit. Like you don't need more money.
So you're probably down there just because you
want to hoop but to go down there and hoop and get heckled
to the point that you're fighting fans at a Puerto
Rican basketball game is just a sad place to be and I don't
want to get to that point in my life and I hope I haven't got
maybe you're listening to Josh. You've already been at that
point in your life and maybe you're right, but I don't want
to be at that point anyway more to come.
