Hello, how are you over the weekend? I got the chance to talk to Bernie Sanders, and I want to bring you what he had to say. Now, Bernie Sanders has been going on a bit of a circuit. He was at the No Kings rally in Minneapolis, and he also was here in New York to talk about how we need to tax the rich, which I kind of feel like, like, who doesn't agree with that? Maybe Elon Musk, but other than that, I think it's kind of like a 90-10 issue. We need to be taxing the rich more money.
Now, Bernie Sanders, as I said, talk to me, and he also had this to say about the war and Iran.
Now as the news literally of today reminds us, we have got to stop the out of control militarism of the Trump administration, whether it is here and home in cities like Minneapolis and St. Paul or abroad.
Let us be honest.
The American people were lied to about the war in Vietnam.
We will lie to about the war in Iraq.
And we are being lied to today about the war in Iran.
This war must end immediately.
In the last election, Donald Trump pointed out correctly.
The huge amounts of money that had been wasting in wars that should have been spent rebuilding America.
He campaigned as a peace candidate and he promised no more forever wars.
He lied.
He did lie and wouldn't you know it.
There's actually a report that just came out that said Republicans are considering, this is Axios,
reductions in federal health spending to help pay for a budget containing much as $200 billion to fund the Iran War.
A little bit more here.
Top House Republicans are looking at health care offices,
addressing the fraud and federal programs as they did during last year's debate of the budget law
that made deep cuts to federal Medicare spending and imposed first-time requirements.
It says here the Congressional Budget Office previously found the move with lower overall
benchmark ACA premiums by 11% and result, 300,000, fewer people are going to be insured under
Medicaid. So in order to pay for an illegal war in Iran that never should have happened, we are going
to have fewer people in our country getting the health care they need. How does that make sense?
Does that make you feel good? That pisses me off quite a bit. Now Bernie Sanders also said
this about this moment in history.
And thanks to the millions of Americans from our smallest towns to our largest cities in every state in our country who are gathering today at thousands of rallies.
It is absolutely appropriate that we hold a major no-king's rally right here in the St. Paul.
Minneapolis area. When historians write about this dangerous moment in American history,
when they write about courage and sacrifice, the people of Minnesota will deserve a special
chapter for themselves. In the face of unprecedented occupation of this city by ICE,
Trump's domestic army, this community stood up and with extraordinary solidarity fought back and won.
And that's the connective tissue with all this, is Republicans want us to think that we have no power.
They want us to feel like things are inevitable.
They want us to feel hopeless.
but what Minneapolis is proven and what really the movement that Bernie Sanders started and
continues and you and me shows is that when we are engaged, when we are hopeful, when we are
action-oriented, incredible things happen. Incredible. Like truly nothing can get on our way.
Nothing. So I love that message from Bernie Sanders. Now, as I said, I took the opportunity
He talked to the senator yesterday at his tax to rich rally here in the Bronx in New York.
And I asked him a couple of things.
First thing I talked to him about, okay, first I want to tell you, like, the way that this works is I got to watch the rally, obviously.
They invite you there, and I'm sitting in the front row, which is very nice.
And minutes after he's done speaking, they whisk you away to backstage downstairs, and they line you up one by one.
And so they're like, you're going to have one question with the senator.
And it's like, it's very intense.
It's very intense.
And it's a little anxiety-inducing.
But I don't think I seem anxious in this.
I hate watching myself back.
But I actually did ask him something that I thought was relevant.
If you're not aware of what's happening right now,
there's this whole narrative that Democrats need to distance themselves from Hassan Piker.
Now, I've talked about Hassan on the channel before.
I think that he is net good for the Democrats.
I think he's someone who speaks to a disengaged electorate
that may otherwise not pay attention to politics at all.
And I think he is just one shade of blue
in this very vast Democratic Party.
And if we truly are meant to be a big tent coalition,
I think it has to include everyone from Hassan Piker to Adam Mockler to Alyssa Slotkin to Cod.
Do I want to say Rahm Emanuel?
Maybe if we want to win elections.
Anyways, it got to include a lot of different people.
Now, what's happening is that there's been this whole narrative around how, like, Democrats need to kick Hassan out of the party.
They need to not engage with him.
And even some Democrats would come out saying that they're never going to go on his show.
I just feel like that's, well, you'll see.
So I asked Bernie Sanders about this.
And I hate watching myself.
Senator Sanders, thank you so much for meeting with me.
I think the lesson from 2024 is we're supposed to send Democrats anywhere and everywhere
will they'll listen to us.
And you will go to Joe Rogan.
You'll talk to most people.
I'm wondering what you think about this whole narrative around Hassan Piker and some
Democrats just saying they're never going to go on his show.
Well, I've talked to Hassan.
I think he's doing in many respects a very good job.
The bottom line is that we have got to communicate with people.
It's fine to talk to everybody you know in your neighborhood.
People agree with you on everything.
But I've been on Joe Rogan's show, as you understand.
You got a lot of heat for that.
Of course I did.
You know, I disagree with Joe Rogan on this or that issue.
But the last that I heard, you can disagree with me, right?
I hope so.
I thought about America is supposed to be about.
Yeah.
But if you give me a civil discourse, we have an intelligent discussion.
Fine.
Disagree with me on an issue or not.
Period. All right. So I agree. I kind of think Democrats, if you believe in, if what you think
and what you believe you think to be true and you believe it with your full spirit, then you should
be able to defend what you believe and discuss what you believe and debate what you believe
with anyone and everyone. That's how I feel. And so if you disagree with Hassan Piker on some
stuff and he's willing to have you on your show, on his show, I think it's incumbent on you to go
to his audience and say, hey, actually, this is what I think, and here's why I think it.
And what do you think? Why do you think that? Now, we have learned that when you go,
when you say, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not doing Joe Rogan because X, Y, and Z,
well, then Joe Rogan's audience never hears from you. I think Democrats need to start
being a group of people who will talk to anyone, anywhere, about most anything. Doesn't
mean you got to agree with them, but talk to them.
Because their audience is listening.
I don't know.
Isn't the whole point of this?
To persuade people.
It's to persuade people.
So do you want to persuade someone or do you want to just talk to people who agree with you?
I don't know.
All right.
And then I also ask the senator about how I feel like, well, here, I'm just going to, I feel
weird teeing myself off when you're going to hear the question.
So I also ask this.
I think everyone's waiting for a white knight to come and save us from fascism.
You're a big proponent on, we're actually giving me the ones to save us to save.
of ourselves, right?
Yeah.
Can you explain to me, like, what does that desire the American people to want to find
that one person to save us versus...
Well, I think we all are comfortable as a kind of element of human nature that's comfortable
as calm on.
Let me, leave me alone.
I'm doing my thing.
I don't want to get in trouble.
I don't want to go outside of my comfort zone.
And somebody else will come along and do it.
Problem is that it's not the case.
We're taking on right now the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world.
and they want more and more.
They don't believe in democracy.
They believe in authoritarianism.
They believe in oligarchy.
The only way they're going to be defeated
is when tens of millions of people
demand change, stand up, and take them on.
So there is going to be no white night.
We're all going to have to do it together.
All right.
Well, thank you so much.
Thank you.
Yeah.
So I wanted to ask him that specifically
because I really do think most people believe
that there's going to be someone to swoop in
and just fix everything.
I don't want that. Two, I don't think's going to happen.
Zoramam Dani didn't decide to save New York.
We decided that Zoran was a person we wanted to lead us.
Had a very crowded field of people.
So it's always the people who give the politicians the power.
And if you don't like what's happening right now, good.
But do something about it.
Find someone you do believe in.
Maybe you run for office.
maybe you get involved in your community.
Maybe you don't want to run for office, but maybe you know someone who should.
There's a million different ways that we can create a better country and certainly a better
party than what we have right now, but no one's going to do it for us.
We got to do it for ourselves.
I'm doing my part, but I really do hope if you're watching this channel, you listen to
the good senator here.
And you listen to yourself.
Because if you're thinking that I could do something, there's something I could do.
I could do something.
I believe you.
You should believe yourself.
Now it's up for you to respect that idea and follow through with it.
Okay?
Anyways, very cool that I got to interview the senator.
It was very quick, but very much so worth the time.
And I truly can't believe.
I mean, a year and a half ago, this channel barely existed,
and it's crazy that now we're interviewing someone like Bernie Sanders.
So thank you for giving me the opportunity to be able to be in rooms like that.
And I do hope I am, I just hope that I'm being responsible with the power that you've given me.
And I also hope I'm just representing you well.
