All right, we have more breaking news and started to come to you again from my house.
I was not expecting there to be so much news tonight, but who we are with more honestly,
very disturbing news.
I'm kind of pissed off.
The Senate has reached a deal that's going to end the shutdown.
We're seeing it play out in real time right now.
They just voted what it is called for closure.
And I'll explain it a little bit more about what this all means.
But Gavin Newsom very simply said that this is.
completely pathetic to surrender. And I agree. It's completely pathetic. Here's how Bernie Sanders put this.
What this Senate is about to do is make a horrific situation even worse. So let's be clear what this vote is about.
If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are going to see at least a doubling in
their premiums in the Affordable Care Act. In my state of Vermont, throughout this country,
for certain groups of people, it will be a tripling and a quadrupling of their premiums.
There are people who will now be paying 50% of their limited incomes for health care.
Does anybody in the world think that makes sense? And if this resolution is passed tonight,
we are on a pathway to throw 15 million Americans off of Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, 15 million.
And that's exactly what's going to happen.
That is what Democrats are voting for.
Eight Democrats have moved over to the Republican side to vote to reopen the government.
I have some information about what this is here from my friend Adam.
They said, since they are using the House-pass bill,
they probably aren't going to have to send this back to the House unless Senate Dems add amendments that they haven't passed.
But since they just invoke closer, they can add amendments.
So now it's just a debate prior to the final vote.
So they're going to debate some more, but this is all pretty much said and done.
And I want to put this the way that AOC put this, or she said, the average SNAP benefit per month is $1770 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason.
This is not a matter of appealing to a base.
It's about people's lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.
I really do think tonight's the night that AOC basically became a senator.
It's going to not happen for a couple of years that the primary is going to take place.
But I do believe that this night is the night.
that it was all over.
And here is how this is working out
because there are eight Democrats
who voted against this.
One of them is not Chuck Schumer.
He said he's going to vote no.
Jake Sherman said this is always the way it would end.
Schumer keeping his hands clean
while the rank and vile votes yes.
Now, I don't agree with that.
I don't agree with that at all
because he's not keeping his hands clean.
We all know.
Chuck Schumer is the minority, what?
leader.
He's the minority
leader of
the Democratic
side of the Senate.
So here's what I...
I haven't seen any
reporting that says
that Chuck Schumer
was doing everything he could
behind the scenes
to try to whip votes
so that this
vote didn't happen.
Instead,
I think this is all very choreographed.
These things usually
are and Schumer figured out this deal was happening.
He wanted to go along with it.
He let eight senators defect so that they could reopen the government.
He could stop taking any burn away.
John Thune gave him like just like a little thing.
Like the thing they're getting in return is John Thun was like, fine, we'll vote on your stupid ACA thing.
But we all know that a 60 vote, a 63 vote.
a 60 threshold vote to win in the Senate,
not going to pass to keep the ACA subsidies.
We also know even if it were to pass,
it's not going to pass in the House.
So it's just superficial.
Everything they got is superficial.
Instead, I just don't understand the lesson here.
Because on Tuesday, Donald Trump and Republicans learned
that Americans are pissed off.
They found that,
majority of Americans blame Republicans for this shutdown.
And so what does Schumer do?
He said, well, let's just cave.
After this huge win, let's just cave to Trump.
I don't get it.
I don't get it.
Here's what Chuck Schumer said.
But let me be clear.
However this vote turns out,
this fight will and must continue.
Democrats must fight because of millions of millions of families
will lose health care coverage. We must fight
because children who are dying of cancer
will not get health care coverage.
We must fight because a senior citizen
cannot afford to pay $25,000 a year just for health
insurance. We must fight to keep millions
from financial ruin.
Well, they didn't. And I have a list of the
senators who voted yes here.
Okay.
Democrats who caved were Dick Durbin, Rosen, Cortez, Mastow, King, King, Federman, Shaheen, and Hassan.
And so what happened too probably is that the ones who are very far away from an election,
we're told they should vote for it, and the old ones who were retiring were told to fall on the sword, too.
All right, let's keep going on.
Oh, Brett.
I'm going to say his name correctly this time.
Brett.
Miseless.
I did it.
This is the fight, my guy.
What do you think the fight is?
Strongly worded letters.
Yes, this is the fight.
This is literally the fight.
Here a senator came statement.
I'm not going to read it because it's a bunch of hogwash.
But the comments are not, they're not great.
this is some weak shit senator says harry siston pathetic tim says adam cochran you are her old
person says can't ever die she's a influencer on there unit turner betrayal of working class
americans wu tang is the children you cave congratulations looking forward to your primary
and on and on and on and on someone else said my guess is that democrats cave behind closed doors
this is there's a few in there who always cross party party lines but it seems like they also let those
retiring up for election in 2026,
fall in the search. Oh, so similar to what I said.
Senator Rossoff voted no.
He is up for re-election next year.
Jonathan Martin, who is a reporter for Politico,
oh, Politico, I was right.
Said this.
The height of Dem leverage was Tuesday night
when the results came in and Trump blamed them for the shutdown.
The minute he said,
the solution, therefore, was killing the filibuster,
than making congressional Republicans take a deal that was at the end of the leverage.
The best hope Dems had was Trump undercutting his party.
I actually think killing the filibuster would have been awesome.
I don't think we should have it.
I think it's anti-democratic.
I think it slows progress.
And I think that my thing is like if the filibuster, if Republicans wanted to reopen the
government by nuking the filibuster and then pass shitty laws that hurt more people,
that would suck in the interim
for the people they'd hurt,
but it would show the American people
that Republicans can't be
given the responsibility to govern.
And this day, actually, that was very smart.
Step one, the Democrats tell voters
that giving Republicans power
will be bad for the lives.
Step two, Republicans in power
try to do things that are bad for voters' lives.
Step three, Democrats cut a deal
with Republicans in power
to prevent bad things from happening to voters' lines.
Step four, voters think Democrats lie and overstate the threat the Republicans pose their lives.
A maddening political cycle, sometimes Democrats need to allow Republican governance to fail even when it's painful.
That's what I'm saying. Let them touch the stove.
You know, you got to touch the stove to know it's hot.
And then you likely never do it again.
That's what we need.
I'm just with this.
Pro-Mania said 80-year-old Senator Dick Durbin after voting to reopen the government and taking a city.
from the Republican chalice of promised ACA votes.
Well, hopefully this is my last breaking news update for today.
I'd like to take some rest. I'm going to.
I hope you do too. I'm pissed off.
I'm pissed off. We've got to get better senators.
And we will.
Bye-bye.
