Starting point is 00:00:00 Gavin Newsom's wife just slapped Donald Trump in the face, not literally, figuratively, with her words, and it might have woken him up. Hopefully, something needs to wake him up because late last night, he tweeted something that made absolutely no sense. He said the following. He said, wow, Gavin Newscom just dropped out of the presidential race, President DJT. Uh, at which point, for some reason, the White House wanted to reshue. that? I'm not sure why. As Jordan Ool said here, White House Rep. Response account out here, like, check out our sundowning leader. Yeah, Donald Trump, Gavin Newsom isn't, one, running for president, and two, if he's not running, there's no way he can drop out. I just don't understand.
Starting point is 00:00:49 I don't understand what's going on. None of this is normal. None of this is normal. What is normal is what Gavin Newsom had to say here about his dyslexia. It's not something, you know, you know, you get rid of. It's just something you work around. I don't know that you overcome it, but you work around it. And it turned out, I am literally sitting here because of it.
Starting point is 00:01:13 It's a gift. Because it forces you to develop other skills. And it forces you to have some empathy. To feel like you have to be more collaborative. And it just, it sensitizes. you to the world around. You feel the room. You absorb more emotionally. I think we can all understand that, that the things that are perceived as weaknesses are perceived as being not normal
Starting point is 00:01:44 are actually the things that make us the strongest. I love that. I love that. What is that thing for you in your life? I'm trying to think what the thing is for me. I have a couple. I don't want to share them. They're personal. They're personal. Newsom also said this on his tour. It's America in reverse right now. You're seeing it, not just in Tennessee, you're seeing all over the country. These guys want to bring us back to a pre-1960s world. You're seeing it. LGBTQ rights, certainly, but women's rights, voting rights, civil rights. They're rewriting history, censoring historical facts.
Starting point is 00:02:17 We've never dealt with anything like this in our modern lifetime. It's an extraordinary moment. It's code red. I mean, what led to the redistrictic. I mean, remember, I'll remind you what happened to the redistricting. I'm going to keep letting him go. But I got to say this is the thing that I like about Gavin Newsom is I feel like, and tell me if I'm wrong, but I feel like I am so online. I watch so much content.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I watch so much content. My brain is mush from all of the feeds I'm constantly consuming to bring you the news. But I feel like he's one of the only people talking about what's going on in a way that is based in reality. I don't know anyone else. I think I saw De Niro on Nicole Wallace's podcast, also saying, hey, he might try to steal the midterms. Hey, he's not going to leave, he's not going to leave office. Other than that, I'm not really seeing people being like, guys, the guy who try to overthrow our democracy is in power.
Starting point is 00:03:24 How is, is you really going to let democracy? continue to happen. Let's keep going. Donald Trump said these words. He called Greg Abbott and said he's entitled to five seats. The President of the United States said he's entitled to five seats. Tried to rig the midterm election before one vote was cast, but that shouldn't surprise any of you. He tried to light democracy on fire on January 6th. Tried to break this country. He continues this moment. We have to be vigilant and we have to be mindful. And I say this. with love. I want to get back to when they go low week. I do. I want the hug. I want, you know, the music in the back. I want the West Wing. I do. I just, I do. I want to come back.
Starting point is 00:04:09 You know, I just, ah, where's Aaron Sorkin when you need them? But I think we will lose our republic if we don't wake up to what these guys are trying to do in real time. Absolutely. Absolutely. I know not everyone likes Gavin Newsom, that's okay. That is a message that I feel like needs to be said more. It needs to be said more that what is happening right now isn't normal. We really need to wake up to this. We have to wake up to it.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Now, I guess the fight is not genetic because they're not related, but I guess it's in the family. Now, I didn't know this, but Sybil Newsom is a longtime advocate for women's rights. The filmmaker who in 2022 accused disgrace movies, producer Harvey Weinstein of R-Wording her in a hotel room in 2005 directed the award-winning 2011 documentary misrepresentation, which explored the under-representation of women positions of power, influence in the U.S. I had no idea. I had no idea. She was, I had no idea of any of that act story until I saw that. That's incredible. But I guess what I have to do
Starting point is 00:05:21 is show you a bit of this background here. So Donald Trump spoke, remember when Castor tell was in Italy celebrating with the hockey team when he should have been, I don't know, solving crimes. In that same viral video, Donald Trump talked to the hockey team and here's just a bit of it. Watch one minute. And by the way, you golly played not bad. Howie, say hi to him. How you doing, Dad?
Starting point is 00:05:56 All right, so it goes on like that. But what happens is that Trump told the U.S. men's hockey team, he's going to begrudgingly invite the women's gold winning team in the White House to or also be impeached. And the male players then laugh the idea that women would be included. Now, the women's team was incredible. But I just want to quickly slow this down for a second because I'm sorry, wasn't Donald Trump and the right and everyone else? Weren't they the ones fighting to protect women's sports? Wasn't that the whole deal? Do they respect women's sports or do they just use it as a cudgel to gain power?
Starting point is 00:06:37 Because after Donald Trump said that, this was the reaction. It's the biggest... We're in. Mr. President. White House, the next day, we'll just have some fun. We have medals for you guys. And we have to, I must tell you, we're going to have to bring the woman's team. You do know that.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Absolutely. Yeah, they really want to protect women's sports, please. They don't give a shit about anything. They don't give a shit about anyone. They'll just use whatever they can to try to gain power. This is the clearest example. That's all along aside to tell you that the Olympic gold medal winning U.S. hockey team declined Trump's invitation to attend his state of the union address. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Just awesome. And here's what Gavin Newsman's wife has to say about that. clearly they prefer arenas where women are actually respected as they should. Very nice, very nice. Now, I want to say that this is what Gavin Newsom has said about Democrats seem to be more, quote unquote, normal. No doubt that the Democratic Party needs to be, dare I say, more culturally normal. I believe that. Less prone to spending disproportionate amount of time on pronoun.
Starting point is 00:08:13 identity politics, more focused on tabletop issues, things that really matter, the stacking of stress in terms of electricity bills and child care costs and health care and obviously housing costs, and how easily we get trapped in that, how I've fallen prey to that. Sure. I don't disagree with that, but I also think, like, it can't be both ways. Like, the President of the United States can't be mocking the women's team. And then, like, that to me is like also a form of identity politics but like the bad way like i i don't like when people try to use identity as a way to imply morality or immorality because of how someone uh was born or how someone lives their life like if you're gay or you're straight you're no longer you're no more moral or
Starting point is 00:09:06 immoral as someone else. But when you use identity to cut someone down, that is, I think, one of the worst aspects of our culture. And I'm at least somewhat grateful that someone like Jennifer Sybil Newsom is standing up for women. And women are standing up for themselves. They're just like, screw you, Trump. I'm not going to go to your stupid speech. It's going to be three hours long and boring as hell. No, I will be streaming it tonight, and I hope to see you there. Bye.
