Here's a super underreported story and this affects you, it affects me, it affects our country
because the monopolization of the media is going to be our downfall.
Now, thankfully, we've got YouTube for now.
So if you're here, hit like, subscribe because what's happening is that a select few
billionaires are controlling everything you see and here.
And thank God, at least John Oliver, who is in the middle of this.
these mergers is calling it out. Now, what is happening is that Netflix is trying to buy Warner
Brothers, saying here a big part of the concern of the likely impending merger between Netflix and
Warner Brothers is that when all is said and done, Netflix will be far the biggest streamer out
there by a huge margin with more subscribers and more time spent on platforms than any other
streamer, not including us right here on YouTube. The latest deal Netflix made today,
poses an even bigger threat.
So not only does Netflix want to buy Warner Brothers,
but they're now going to have access to all of Sony's catalog.
Said here, Netflix and Sony Pictures on Thursday
announced a new global pay-one licensing deal.
All of Sony's feature films will now stream on Netflix globally
after their full run in theaters and on demand.
Sony's movies already stream on Netflix in the U.S. and other territories,
but this new expanded deal means Sony's new releases will be available around the world,
and it also gives Netflix access to some other older library and TV titles,
which I guess sounds like a win for you and me.
But what always happens with these sorts of deals is that eventually it means we're going to start
paying more money.
Things just get more expensive.
And do we really want one company, Netflix, to have so much power and so much control
over what you and I see and hear, what people get to produce, what films are made, what TV shows
are about. I don't think, I mean, one of the great, one of the fail safes of our electoral system
is that it isn't owned by anyone. Counties run their own elections, states oversee the elections,
the presidential election is really something that happens in small,
areas and then overwhelmingly goes to one count. That is the total opposite of the monopolization
of our media where just a handful of people decide what's produced, what can be said,
what you can see. And I think we're already seeing now with CBS, that's not great because
the same folks who bought CBS and now are saying things like the ICE agent who fatally shot
Renee Good on January 7th, Minneapolis suffered internal bleeding in the torso following the
incident. Now, we don't know that that's true. We don't know if that's true. In fact, there's no
evidence of that, but CBS was bought for a specific purpose so that they can do things like this
and create the truth rather than tell the truth. And that's worrying because the same people
who bought CBS now want us try to do this Netflix deal. Now Warner Brothers has rejected
Paramount's offer, but, and this is where it's all connected to Trump, guess who has overseen?
Well, Pam Bondi has worked for the lobbyist Ballard.
That's the same firm hired to lobby for both Paramount and Netflix, and she's now, of course,
head of the Justice Department, overseeing all this shit, getting to decide what does
and doesn't get prosecuted, what does and doesn't get looked at.
by this administration.
She very well may help Paramount
acquire Warner Brothers.
So though Warner Brothers is rejecting Paramount's offer,
this is not the end of the road.
This is just a pause.
And regardless, I guess I would much rather have
Netflix's own Warner Brothers,
knowing what we know.
But truly, none of this is great.
None of this is great that our media
has turned into like four or five huge multi, multi, multi, multi billion dollar companies yet
control everything.
And we're seeing in real time with CBS how that plays out.
Now, thankfully, we've got John Oliver, who's at least saying, I'm not going to shut up.
There are going to be question marks on all of this, right?
Because it's very hard to justify this legally.
Now, whether that makes it impossible for it to happen, that's an open question.
But again, you can't waste time worrying about something that you're not going to listen to anyway.
Right?
It feels like we're just going to do what we do.
They're going to, whoever they are is going to have to realize either you ignore us like that irritating village or you're going to have to take us around the back of the woodshed.
But I think we have like a different view of their job because I think what they think their job is is to stop us getting sued.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I think their job is to make sure that when we get sued, we win.
Right.
And that part of it is everything that I love.
When you know you're in trouble, the company's angry with you, your own lawyer.
I mean, Rebecca Ballant said Americans don't like mergers.
They don't want a few giant companies controlling what they see and what they hear.
We want choices, more choices.
When these companies merge, things get better for the people at the top over and over again and worse for the rest of us.
and it does get worse because, as I showed you, with that CBS propaganda tweet, folks know
it's wrong. The New York's type editor, Barry Weiss, expressed a high level of interest in the story
on an editorial call on Wednesday morning, according to the staffers who listened.
Quote, there was a big internal dissension about the internal bleeding report here last night,
the CBS news staffer who was not authorized to speak publicly said.
it was viewed as a thinly veiled anonymous leak by the Trump administration to someone who'd carried it online.
Went on to say, quote, felt to many here like we were carrying water for the admins justifying of the shooting to keep our access to our sources at a network staffer.
So that's the problem.
That's the problem.
And this problem's only going to get worse.
Now, that is also why, like I said at the top, it is super important that we keep these independent
sources going. So I'm here on YouTube, which is owned by a billion dollar corporation, but for now,
it's very independent. Thank God. I'm also on Spotify in case this ever gets corrupted. You should
definitely follow up with a subscription on Spotify. It's all free. And we will, this year, really for me,
is about making sure that we diversify the places that you can see me because I don't want to have
any one master. And the only way you can make sure that no one controls you is by being everywhere.
So though I'm currently monopolized on YouTube, it is my goal to make it so that I can be wherever
you want to hear me. It's going to take a minute to get there. But please, please, please, please,
understand what's happening is that billionaires, oligarchs and corporations are monopolizing
what you see in here
and the only way to prevent this
is by going straight to different sources
which thankfully for now we have
